He's an amazing guy! If he doesn't know an answer to something, he will find it out! If you need to coem by and talk to him, he's always available, always quick return on e-mails, and he genuinely cares about his students. It's his first year, I hope the students don't make him bitter! Oh, yeah....and he's a hottie
He's really the nicest guy ever. His lectures can be unclear... he gets flustered while talking. Backtracks and contradicts himself alot. I wouldn't take him if you really want to learn a lot about Genetics, take him if you could use an easier class. But again, nicest guy ever and grades REALLY easy.
Greatest prof ever! Extremely helpful and caring about his students. Will take extra time to make sure all questions are answered. Very straightforward tests. Always avalible for questions. Hottness doesn't hurt. Who doesn't love Bloss?
Dr. Bloss is such a nice guy. He's friendly and very approachable. However, his tests are TOO HARD. You study for hours days before, and you'll probably get a D or C on them, at best. There's no way to appropriately prepare for them and his questions are based more on book problems then anything remotely conceptual.
New prof on campus - definitely poised to be one of university's best. Very clear and extremely helpful. Kept my interest throughout class and encourages students' participation. He's very approachable, and makes the info meaningful.
Seriously one of the best bio teachers I ever had, his lab was awesome. I ended up going to him for help instead of my own lecture teacher! He cares about his students and likes to have fun in lab!
amazingly helpful and sucha cutie. this guy loves his subject and conveys it fairly well, tests can be a little tricky but make sure you study the book and go to class and you'll most likely get a B
He is so adorable I want to put him in a fish bowl on my coffee table! Sweetest teacher you will ever meet. Every question is a great question. Study what he tells you to and you'll be fine!
Dr. Bloss is the best Biology professor I have ever had! If you can take him for any class I would highly recommend him. Extremely helpful, kind and sincere in wanting you to succeed, class not mandatory but very helpful and fun to attend. I hope I get to take him again!
A very helpful and understanding professor. He met with me several times to talk about my future and my grades and gave me the confidence I needed to complete the course. I also had him for lab and he was a great professor.
He is a great professor. I actually enjoyed his lectures, and if you need help, he is great at answering any questions. His tests were fair, and he graded accordingly. Just make sure to review your notes and study the material covered in class. I rarely cracked my book.
Bloss is extremely helpful and cares a ton about his students. Explains everything. Tests are not all that difficult and cover exactly what he tells you they will. I personally feels the pace of the class is a little slow, so lecture can sometimes be boring, but I highly recommend taking Bloss
dr. bloss is awesome! he genuinely cares about his students and makes sure they understand the material. his tests are very straight forward and aren't all that difficult, he gives alot of partial credit which helps. take him if you can! and for lab too!
Bloss is the man! He is very knowledgeable and helpful-he even helped a group of us about 30 minutes before the test! His lectures are pretty interesting. Tests are mostly short answer, but that is good because you will likely get partial credit if you have the slightest clue about what you're talking about. Attendance notmandatory, but recommended
Such a nice guy. He's more than willing to help you whenever you need it. Don't really need the book except for extra practice problems. Very knowledgeable on the subject and clear in his lectures. PS sooo cute
Take his genetics of cancer class as an elective, you won't regret it. There are in class quizzes that aren't too tricky. The midterm and final are take home exams (written essays). They're time consuming, but interesting topics. Oh, and Dr. Bloss is AWESOME at teaching.
Dr bloss is an awesome teacher! He is so passionate about the material and very invested in the students learning the material
Genetics. Bloss is great. Really helpful and wants to to learn material. I had to study a lot, but it payed off. The book helped me, and studying in a group helps. Go to his office hours.
hE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE HAD SO FAR IN BIOLOGY AND HE IS EVER READY TO TAKE HIS TIME AND HELP YOU WHENEVER YOU NEED HELP...HE IS SUPER NICE
Genetics. Literally my favorite bio class this semester. He is so helpful, and he understands how students struggle learning so much, and his tests only reflect what he talks about in lecture. He is very easy to understand, and I loved his class. He's an awesome professor, and if I could take him for the rest of my classes, I would. TAKE HIM.
He definitely cares about each one of his students and understands that this isnt the only class that we have to take, and the workload reflects that. He is a great teacher, and only tests you on what he covers in lecture. Definitely take him! Best bio professor I've had so far.
LOVE THIS CLASS! I think the reason why I like it so much is because Bloss is teaching it. He makes Genetics so much easier to understand and he is a really understanding professor. I really want to take more Genetics classes in the future after taking him :)
Dr. Bloss is very nice. He's willing to help-not condescending or intimidating at all. His exams were all short answer-I found them to be difficult. Only the final is cumulative. But I wouldn't say it's an easy 'A'.
Downright one of the best teachers at JMU. Makes everything crystal clear and strives to helps his students. He made the material interesting and he is a super nice!
Dr. Bloss is one of my favorite Biology professors. He is passionate about his subject and thoroughly explains all concepts.
Loved this class and Dr. Bloss. He is fantastic and the class is not bad at all. If you do the homework problems and study for the tests, it's an easy A. TAKE THIS CLASS
Bloss may be the chillest dude to ever exist. Tests are take home, and he is a very lenient grader. I would probably follow him into battle because he is that cool.
Oh Tim. He only wears blue shirts with blue jeans, so you know he is a pretty relaxed guy. This class is a guaranteed A if you put in good effort. Do the practice problems he assigns and you'll have the blueprint of the exams. Don't understand a problem? He is very helpful and never speaks down to you.
You cannot leave JMU without taking a class with Bloss. He is the sweetest, smartest man that I have ever met. He wants all of his students to pass and succeed. His lectures can be kind of boring but he makes the class funny and interesting. Do yourself a favor and take his class. You won't regret this decision
Bloss is awesome! He is always willing to help, and will be there whenever you need an accomodation. The lab is really easy, but can get annoying with the fruit flies. His tests are free response, but they aren't hard at all. He lectures can be boring, and he doesn't move very fast, but he is a great teacher and everyone is well prepared for tests.
Super nice guy and always very fair. Makes sure you learn everything you need to and is always available for extra help. Overall an amazing professor! If you have the chance, take his class!
Dr. Bloss is one of the most amazing teachers that I've had here. He actually knows what he's talking about unlike some teachers and you can tell that he is very passionate about what he does. I would recommend him to everyone who needs to take this class. I have learned so much from him and I'm going to take more of his classes.
Dr. Bloss is a dedicated professor who's very easy to talk to and always willing to help students. I underestimated 224 bc the 1st test was basically a review of 214 and super easy, but you'll need to pay attention to the new stuff and work the practice problems bc his tests are short answer. overall a great teacher and a relatively easy class.
Bloss is amazing!! LOVE LOVE LOVE! I would take more of his classes if he had some. I had him for lab and he was very clear and to the point. Lectures can be a little long but purposeful because he really breaks things down for you. He's so chill and as soon as you're done you can leave which is pretty rare for bio professors.
Bloss is the best, I love him! This class was tougher than I thought it was going to be but still interesting! Take it just for Bloss, he's great!
Dr. Bloss is absolutely amazing. He is kind, smart, and incredibly helpful. Everytime I asked him a question or went to his office hours, he made me feel like my thoughts were valued and he truly gave me his full attention. He is the most approachable and understanding professor I have ever had. He made genetics interesting and understandable.
Dr. Bloss has become my favorite professor at JMU. He is so kind and nice to you when you come to him for help and his lectures are the best, he takes the time to draw out things so you can understand him better. I keep up with the HW and readings and have gotten As on all my test. I would take him for any class, he's the best!!!
Professor Bloss was the cutest, sweetest teacher. His lecture were very simple and printed out the slides for you every day before class. He had no problem explaining something 3 times if someone in class was still confused. NEVER made you think your question was a dumb one. Had him for lab and lecture and I loved him!
Bloss is honestly one of my favorite professors at JMU! He's one of the few that actually wants you to learn and genuinely wants you to understand the material because he loves it so much! I'm so glad I got to take him before he goes on sabbatical because he is honestly the best! He's adorable and kind so definitely take him if you can!
LOVE LOVE LOVE. Bloss is one of the most caring professors I've had. His tests are mainly free response but the questions come from the homework and in class assignments.
One of the best professors I had the pleasure of knowing. Easily approachable and always willing to help, this guy honestly has no downsides. He explains the material way too well and posts powerpoints. Tests are straight-forward. Go to his office hours. He loves company and I promise it will help your grade. Take him. He is truly amazing.
Dr Bloss was one of the best professors I've had at JMU. Very approachable and understanding. Tests and lectures are straight forward. Great guy and class. Take him!!
Dr Bloss genuinely cares about the success of his students and is very accommodating if you ever need to reschedule an exam. Every test/quiz is straightforward and he tries to include fun games to help review for tests and earn extra credit. The only tests are a midterm and a final but there are also some quizzes and a project to make up your grade
Would definitely take Dr. Bloss again. He's an amazing professor who will go over the material a million times if needed. Super caring, loves the subject & his students and is always available for office hours!
I wholeheartedly believe that Dr. Bloss is the best professor JMU has ever hired. He cares, he's hot, he's a GENIUS, he's always willing to help and answer questions. Grades tests VERY easily too. You're guaranteed an A or B if you put in the work and do the supplemental homework. He's so passionate and makes a boring topic interesting. TAKE HIM!
Best professor you could ask for. He's a genius and knows how to explain things in a very learnable manner. He gives really easy tests and quizzes, too. The project was a really good, unique idea, but it took away a lot of time from class so what we learned about cancer was pretty general. Still learned a lot, though! Take this class if you can!
Bloss is such an amazing teacher, he explains things extremely clearly, you rarely ever leave class confused. Some material can get a little dry, but he tends to bring in examples that help to make it interesting. Tests are only the grades (besides lab) but it's pretty easy to get an A or B if you do the practice problems. Take him!
my mans, i love bloss so much, i wish i could take him again for another class. he's just so nice, genuinely cares about his students and really does his best to help you understand the material. tests are totally fair if you study for them. he's honestly just a gem and there's not enough space to talk about him here. i had him for lab too, 10/10
Dr. Bloss has been the best bio prof Ive had so far while at jmu. He can get a little dull in lecture but its clear what to expect on his tests if you do the practice problems. He is helpful outside of class. His tests are short answer and multiple choices. But best choice for genetics
The sweetest man ever. Genetics is a dry subject in general, but he tries to keep it upbeat. Many people did well, but the tests can be tricky. Very open to help if you need it, so seem him in office hours. 100% recommend, especially for this course.
Bloss is the best professor I've had at JMU thus far. He is so caring about genetics and is such a genuine guy. Grades test very fair and goes over everything expected for the exams through the supplemental hw problems. 3 exams, final, and lab make up your grade. Take him if you have the option!!
Bloss is a sweetheart, and he is incredible for genetics. He will take extra time in class to review a topic or answer questions if he feels that he didn't teach it as well as he could. He wants to be the best professor he can be. Do the textbook problems and you're set for his tests. Has extra office hours near exams, and loves to help.
A very caring and approachable professor. Lectures get boring as he talks a lot and most of the times too fast. Make sure to record lectures. Needs to improve on responding to emails and updating canvas. Really dont know what grade you have even once the semester ends.
One of the best teachers in the BIO department, I'm taking Genetics of Cancer only because he is teaching it and I know it will be a worthwhile class with Dr. Bloss teaching it. The tests aren't the easiest but a little studying and basic knowledge will get you a good grade in the class.
Very lecture heavy and only graded by your exams. HOWEVER. Tim Bloss is hands down the best teacher I have ever had in all three years of college. I love him. He really wants you to pass and enjoy the class. He cares about the students and is very passionate about him job. If you have to take Genetics, TAKE HIM. BEST PROF EVER.
I highly recommend taking Bloss! His class depends a lot on lectures and your grade is only dependent on exam grades. Bloss is so passionate about the field of Genetics and knows so much and for that reason is an amazing professor. He is always accessible for help and is so caring. Take him!
Going to his lectures helped and you are only graded on the tests so make sure you do well. He is really helpful in office hours and outside of class. I found the class very interesting and I did the extra book homework which is very helpful for the test because some questions come directly from that.
Dr. Bloss is AMAZING! I really enjoyed taking him. His tests are majority short answered with 10-12 multiple choice. He is really lenient on the multiple choice and gives partial credit on almost all of your answers! His lectures were great, class isnt mandatory but if you want to know the material and do well you should definitely go.
Bloss is the best professor i have had so far; only graded on tests but if you go to lectures, take notes, and do his practice questions he gives you it is an easy A. His lectures are great for the most part. i didnt buy the textbook but he posted electronic copies of the questions he wanted you to do for practice. great class and amazing professor
Such a sweet and caring professor. He really does want everyone to excel in genetics and emphasizes what is important for the exam towards the end of a unit. If I could take him for the rest of my required bio classes, I would. He prints out the notes and homework (optional) for everyone and is super approachable/helpful.
Bloss is a great professor. Hes really nice & funny. He tries to make the class fun and includes real life examples. Hes very straightforward and gives you all the materials youll need for the tests. The only downside is that every class was the same- a lecture, and the grade is based off 3 tests. You can pass with just the notes!
Dr. Bloss only grades his class with three tests and a final (along with the lab). Hard to make up for a bad test grade with this, but if you go and see him outside of class, he will try his very best to explain things to you in a way that makes sense. He is a very nice guy and genuinely wants you to succeed in his class.

I can't say enough about Dr. Bloss. He's by far my favorite professor at JMU. He does everything he possibly can to make sure you do well in his class. TAKE HIM FOR LITERALLY ANYTHING!
Bloss did everything possible to make sure his students succeeded. He only had three tests, free response, and a multiple choice final as his grades for the class. That made it a bit harder but he is very willing to help in any way he can. Don't buy the textbook, everything you need is on the slides and the hw is unnecessary.
Dr. Bloss is so sweet. His lectures can be boring but he explains things well and will always go over the material again if anyone is confused. His tests aren't too hard and he gives partial credit. He's funny and respects all his students
Tim Bloss IS THE MAN! He only tests on content that he covers, gives answers to the homework questions, grades compassionately, and does not overload the homework. He is clearly very passionate about genetics and it is infectious in his lectures... You can just tell that he loves what he does and cares that we also enjoy the class. 15/10 recommend
He is the SWEETEST professor I've ever had, he's been so cool and understanding especially with corona virus going on. His lectures are little boring but he knows his stuff and ultimately just wants his students to do well. Goes out of his way to be fair and make things as easy as possible. Take him if you can he's awesome!
Dr. Bloss is an absolute ANGEL! One of the most caring and accomodating professors at JMU that truly cares about his students. Grading is mainly on the 3 exams, but if you comprehend the powerpoints and look over some of his optional homework problems, you'll get an A. Very lenient grader as well!! TAKE HIM FOR GENETICS
Bloss is an angel sent from heaven. Truly a brilliant man who is kind and great at teaching. Take him for genetics!!!! Grade is based on 2 midterms and a final but the tests are reasonable as long as you study the PowerPoints and HW problems. One of the best professors I have had. LOVE
Dr. Bloss is trying his best with all of the new adjustments due to covid. The are weekly synchronous lectures on Zoom which can get boring, but he is always open to questions and will explain things a million times to make sure the material is understood. Grade is pre-class reading quizzes from the textbook and the exams. Bloss is the best choice!
Tim is amazing. He is obviously passionate about what he's teaching and it makes the lectures 100x more enjoyable. He definitely wants you to succeed and understand the material. Exams aren't too bad. Reviewing the non-mandatory hw problems he suggests helps a lot. I'm usually not a fan of bio, but I'd definitely take his class again.
Dr. Bloss is a literal angel that is always trying his best. His class is by no means an "Easy A" in my opinion, but if you put forth a little bit of effort and do the suggested homework problems , an A is definitely attainable. He really does make lectures enjoyable the best he can & he actually cares about your mental health. An absolute gem.
Bloss is literally the sweetest and goes above and beyond to help his students! The tests can be a little challenging and are 75% of your grade so you definitely need to be paying attention in class. But Bloss is super approachable and if you need help just go to office hours.
All his exams are short answer with very few multiple choice. There was always more short answers and it wasn't like the lecture. You really had to comprehend his lectures or you for sure weren't going to do good in his exams. Pre lecture quizzes are super easy.
Dr. Bloss is the most caring professor I've had in college. He works very hard to make sure you understand the concepts. You have to work hard to get a good grade since exams make up a majority of it, but they are designed to test what you learned in lecture and he also gives partial credit. I would definitely take BIO 240 again if I had Bloss.
Dr. Bloss is one of the best professors I've had so far at JMU. He truly cares about his students and is always available if you need help outside of class!
Dr. Bloss cares about each of his students! He is able to break down genetics into simple terms, but his lectures were long and hard to focus on online. Tests were very fair, but I don't thin I retained much this semester. If you need help go to office hours, he is so sweet and wants everyone to succeed.
Dr. Bloss is very nice! He is sincere and understanding, and puts a lot into his lectures. The option of an online zoom for the lectures is an option as well as in person but all exams are taken in person with a scantron. The exams are a little on the difficult side so this is a class you need to study for, but I would take it again!
This was his first year teaching bio 140 and I honestly think he did really well. The exams are hard but it's a bio class so thats expected. He really cares about his students and want them to do well. Theres a decent amount of busy work and homework but it's not too time consuming.
Amazing professor. He explains difficult concepts very well and makes sure you understand it.
Professor Bloss doesn't normally teach Bio 140, and I had him for his first semester but he was never unorganized and will do everything he can to help you get ready for tests and even gives curves 3 tests and a final, but he will put your final grade in for the lowest test to help your grade. Take him over any other professor 10/10
This is way more than just a job for Dr. Bloss. Biology truly sets his soul on fire and I loved learning from someone so excited to teach. Dr. Bloss is great at explaining concepts and wants all his students to succeed and appreciate the importance of biology.
Dr. Bloss was absolutely amazing. He genuinely cared about his students and wanted them to learn however they learned best. When I had to miss class unexpectedly, he talked me through what I missed during office hours. Attendance was optional, and he also had a zoom link for classes. Lots of opportunities for out of class help. Curved all tests.
Dr. Bloss is honestly the sweetest man ever! I took him for Bio 140 and he was by far the best bio professor available. Class grades are only really 4 grades and the final, but if you study you will be fine. I am not a huge fan of biology, but I actually found his class interesting. Attendance was not required.
Dr. Bloss is one of my favorite humans. He is extremely caring and flexible with class. Our class was in-person, but Dr. Bloss also posted recordings of the lectures and that was super helpful for people that need to re-listen like myself. The tests were somewhat challenging as there were MC, T/F, Select All That Apply, and Short Answer. Just study
Amazing professor. Also had him for 240. Cares about his students. Explains lectures well and answers questions. In 477, each test had an open-ended ethical case study at the end where you just need to give your opinion. Group project that lasts the semester. A lot of details to study but he makes it so you don't need to stress about your grade.
The sweetest professor ever. He is very accessible to help in class, and outside of class. There is only 1 exam and that is the final. The final is open note but still difficult. Highly recommend this professor, because Bloss genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed.
Best bio professor at JMU! He is so kind and you can tell he loves what he teaches. The class itself is very easy. There are 2 exams which could be hard if you don't go to class/study at all. Semester-long group project which was easy and fun. 10/10!!
I had Lab with him. He was awesome. Explained everything clearly and helpful in lab. Open note final and only part of a lab report (group effort). Always finished at least 40 minutes early sometimes earlier.
Dr. Bloss is literally the best professor ever! He is very kind and wants you to succeed. I would recommend going to lecture and paying attention because the content can get confusing but it is very interesting! I always look forwards to going to his class. I want to take cancer genetics just to have him as a professor again! Take him for genetics!
Dr. Bloss is by far the best professor I have ever had. If you have a chance to take him DO IT!! He cares a lot about his students and does a good job explaining things very clearly. You can and will do well in this class.
The best professor JMU has ever had and a genuinely great person. He explains content well and if you just show up to class and pay attention, you will be successful. He goes out of his way to help you understand material and really cares about all his students. I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Bloss!!!
The class is definitely easier workload wise, and he is a very nice person, but I feel like by giving out slide packets with notes already annotated and never grading any of the homework's, he encourages students to take the easy way out of actually studying, coming to class, and getting the most out of his material.
Dr. Bloss was a really good professor. He cares about student success a lot. Always made it clear what was going to be on the exams, which came from the lecture notes. Textbook was helpful for the quizzes and for practice problems, but you could go without it.
I loved him so much. Such a sweet man. He clearly understands and is passionate about the material. Cares so much about his students, the only thing I think he can improve on is not talking for 45 minutes at the beginning of class because I zone out after like ten minutes lol.
He is such a great professor who really cares about his students. He is nice, helpful, and isn't a super difficult grader. During lab, he almost always let us out early, and was extremely helpful during labs and in-class quizzes. Could not recommend him enough!
Dr. Bloss is the best bio professor I have ever had! He is very caring and respectful and he is always there for students. The class is graded on mostly exams.... there are 4 total. If you go to class, you will do well.
Tim Bloss is the best professor I have ever had. He WANTS people to succeed with high grades and you can tell he certainly loves teaching. Take him for genetics if you can!
Take him for genetics. He is the best bio professor I've ever had at JMU. Tests are difficult as the majority of it is free response, but that format really helps for the final. If you go to him after class, he is more than willing to help you to be successful. He is very passionate about what he teaches and I couldn't recommend a professor more.
love love love Dr Bloss. He is so kind and truly cares about his students. His tests were pretty hard but that's expected at this level. He usually gave us a 5 minute break in the middle of class, and pushed due dates back often. Always helpful with questions and meeting outside of class as well. If he could teach all my classes I would be happy
Dr. Bloss is my favorite professor at JMU. He is so caring of his students and wants you to succeed. Cancer genetics is hard, but very interesting. During the class there are exams and group projects where you get a patient and you determine what cancer your patient has. It was a great class!
Great professor and great class! I had some issues with a group member and he was very helpful and made sure each member got the grade they earned, and didn't just ride the backs of their other members
Great professor for 240L! Very willing to help on the yeast reports and other assignments!
Professor Bloss is the best bio prof I've had. Engaging lectures, fair exams, and always willing to help. Unstuck study was a game-changer for studying - it really complemented the course materials.
This man is THE GOAT!! This class is literally one of the best I've ever taken you learn so much and everything is so interesting!! The way he teaches is so clear and he makes things so engaging. He's really nice too and genuinely cares for his students. If you have any interest in this class absolutely take it!!!
Take him if you can!! Sweetest professor, he really just wants to see his students do well. Exams are multiple choice and written, but are very fair, he tells you exactly what will be on them. In class activities, once in a while, he sends reminders about them. Lectures are posted online. Easy A if you study. More professors need to be like him.
Dr. Bloss is the best professor I've had at JMU. If you go to class and study, you will get an A. He always announces when there will be an in class assignment and you receive credit for doing them. He is so passionate about genetics and is great at explaining all of the topics. If you have the chance to take him, DO IT!!
I love him. Take all of his classes.
Super nice professor and posts all his lecture videos. Exams other than final include short answer and multiple choice/multiple answer but he gives partial credit. He has multiple in class assignments but you will know when they are before coming to class. Doesn't take attendance, just study good for exams and you'll be fine. he's amazing!!
frankly one of my favorite professors so far at JMU. tests are a huge chunk of your grade but are mostly written (think AP frqs) and rely on lots of broad knowledge from each section. super nice guy and would ABSOLUTELY recommend taking genetics with this man he's amazing!
I would take a bullet for Tim Bloss.
LOVE him! He explains lecture material so clearly. Attendance is not mandatory and the lectures are recorded, but going to class is helpful. Most of your grade relies on exams, which have a lot of short answer questions. If you pay attention in class, study the lecture slides, and do the practice exam, you will do well on exams. He also curves!
Dr. Bloss is the best, bros a straight chiller and posts lecture videos online from the class, the exam materials (specifically the practice tests are pretty much identical to tests, so as long as you can do the practice tests you'll be good), attendance is not mandatory but he does let you know when there will be in-class assignment ahead of time
My boy Timothy Bloss. Love him.
Dr. Bloss is easily my favorite professor I've had at JMU. He is so kind and genuinely wants everyone to succeed. There are 4 exams, all work 75% of your grade. However, all the questions are very fair and are all discussed in lectures. Do yourself a favor and take his class!
