Alright teacher gives lots of homework and makes you keep a note book with everything in it which is kind of a pain
Apart from that annoying folder you need to turn in with homeowork on every test day, Mr. Boyer is an excellent teacher. He's very clear in his lectures and an overall good teacher. Just watch out- his tests AND his quizes are a challenge.
Explains things clearly, makes sure you understand before moving on, his door is always open, and the notebooks are NOT a pain if you do the work. Tests are not that hard if prepared, and he doesn't try to trick you.
He's a great teacher!!! He explains everything really well and thoroughly and has made this math class a breeze. The homework assignments are suggested and make for easy understanding on the tests!!!
He's always willing to help
Great teacher. Can def. teach. Explains everything real well. ONe downside to the class are the exams (they can be hard sometimes)
would take a class from him again
He loves math and it shows, he really has fun with his classes. He even has math humor that not to many people got. I loved his class and would prefer to take a math class he taught. He's very helpful and understanding. He'll answer the same question 30 times and still answer it totally and with a smile.
Tim is one of the best teachers I have had. You will learn in his class, and even find yourself enjoying math even if you had problems in earlier classes. I need to take calculus through calc 4 and PDE's, and if Tim taught all of those classes, I would adjust my schedule to make sure I got in them.
He really went out of his way for me, And if hes sees that you are truly trying, he will bump that grade up if you are close! More that .5 away. I had a 88.6 and he knows I tryed harder than anybody else, gave me an A anyways. Just a nice guy!
he's a very good professor. I've registered with him a few times because he is helpful and clear with his teaching.
His teaching methods are very user-friendly. He understands that not all business majors are interested in an in depth calculus overview and he asks questions that will pertain to business more than not. He is a very good teacher.
Good teacher, must go to class.
Best math teacher I ever had. You must however show up to class and do the homework. On a side note he grades you on how much homework you complete. This could be good or bad, depends on your opinion. Had many people drop the class but that's probably because it was a calculus class. Even the people who dropped the class say he is good teacher
Best math teacher I ever had. He makes everything really clear, and he's extremely approachable. (Easy on the eyes, too.) He said he threw out the idea of mandatory homework for the class at the start of the quarter, so perhaps this will translate to some of his other courses as well.
Good teacher. Be prepared to do a lot of homework. He makes you keep a notebook of your notes and homework assignments and he grades them. Didn't finish the last homework because I chose to study for the final and missed getting an A by 3 pts because of it.
great teacher! Teaches well and explains everything. He makes you work hard but isn't ridiculously hard. I found him a little boring but again that happens in an 8:30 am class. Work hard and he'll give you a fair grade.
Tim Boyer is one of THE BEST Math teachers I have ever had. I'm sorry to say that Math involves practice, the homework is just that. If you can manage to do the homework and come to class it's really beneficial. It also helps that Tim Boyer knows what he is talking about, and knows how to relay that back to the students perfectly.
awesome teacher. really knows his stuff. Study and come to class... you will do fine.
He explains well.
He is the best professor I have had thus far at Columbus State. He shows numerous of examples so you clearly understand. He is extremely understanding. Need to do your homework in order to excel in this class. Highly highly recommended.
Very organized, grades quickly, does many examples so that you understand the material, need to do the homework to excel in class but he gives you a lot of time to do it. Highly recommended!!!
Great professor. He grades fast, explains very well, and is very helful. He grades hw and we have to show him a portofolio with our notes,hw, tests, and quizzes.
Awesome teacher. He really understands math and knows multiple ways to explain things to make sure you get it. Always willing to go over a problem again. Very clear and together! One of the best math teachers I've ever had!
Mr. Boyer was an amazing professor. He always made time for his students, and was always very clear. I'd love to have him as a professor again, and I recommend highly.
MR. Boyer's class lectures we're awesome and I don't even like math. He explained everything. He didn't just give us a formula and tell us to use it, he explained why the formula is that way.
he is really a good teacher!! i love his grading...he only counts off 1 point if ur answer is supposed to be a negative something and u wrote the opposite! he grades supper fast and post them on blackboard...he also explains the material very well! he is really a good teacher! i highly recommend him!!
Excellent teacher. Extremely helpful.
I'm the kind of person who has to take math classes twice. I took math 104 with Tim and he was the best math teacher I?ve had from kindergarten through now; my third year of college. He helps during office hours too! I got an A in his class with his help. I've waited over a year for him to teach 104. I won?t take another math class without him.
He is absolutly the BEST math professor I've had. I couldn't understand anything when I took this class with another professor, but when I took it with him I got an A. Not because he gives out points just like that, but because he actually TAUGHT the material in a clear way! If you have trouble with factoring, I highly recommend him :)
Tim is really an excellent professor. The class was laid-back, but we still got a lot accomplished each day. I really could not have asked for a better professor. He is a nice guy and he is willing to help if you need it. In the beginning of class he goes over all homework questions. Really a great professor. Take him if you can!
Had this professor for 102(A), 104(A), & 148(B). Boyer is just an average guy who happens to know a great deal about math. Very knowledgeable and helpful.
good teacher, very helpful
He's a good teacher, but I personally think he teaches too fast. You don't get a chance to grasp a concept before moving on to the next one.
Really great professor! Had him for 103 and 104-Hybrid and got an A in both...and I'm not good at math!! Wonderful and makes Math more interesting, 100% recommendation!
Very good teacher. Highly recommend him
Well prepared, grades quickly, teaches effectively. Do all your homework and come to class and you'll do fine. Boyer should teach a class to other CSCC professors about how to teach properly.
Tim is literally the best professor I?ve had, regardless of subject. Tim should teach a class to math teachers, called how to teach a math class, he?s that good, he has Flawless delivery. Do your bucket load of homework, come to class, and take notes, and Tim will do all he can to help you. All these classes run fast, be prepared to work!
Caution Tim teaches EXTREMELY fast. He does not curve, and will not bump you to the higher grade. He really is all about numbers. Do your homework, its the easiest 40 pts you'll get in the class. And make sure you show ALL YOUR WORK the way that he teaches it. If you skip a step, but get the right answer, he will take pts off
I was a little nervous about taking an online math class, but my worries were soon gone when I realized that Tim responded to my emails immediately. His examples were great, and he has a very clear and organized teaching style, a must when it comes to math!! He is very friendly and helpful....Highly recommended!! Thanks Tim!
Tim is a great teacher! I took him for 104 & 148. I completely understood his way of teaching. Requires you to do homework, but hello, if you want to do well in any math class, you need to do the homework. Attend his lectures & complete all the assignments & you'll do just fine! Totally recommend!
Good teacher, good lecturing. The homework policy I thought was kind of ridiculous. Basically, the grades for homework are given on a sliding scale so that you will get hardly any credit unless you do all the homework. If you do 60% of the homework, you get 7% of the points, if you do 80% of the homework, you get 50% of the points.
Best math teacher at CSCC.
Tim's lectures are easy to follow and he does a lot of examples, & will cover only the important stuff, not stuff we won't be tested on. You must do the homework to get practice with the problems (& earn extra points). His quizzes and tests are fairly straight forward some are challenging but study hard and you'll do well. I recommend him for math!
He was extremely helpful and patient. He is an awesome teacher, especially if you're someone who usually has trouble understanding math.
I took Tim Boyers class this fall. He was an Awesome teacher and very helpful. I would recommend anyone who is struggling with math to take Tims class...He does a great job of helping you to understand the material. He has a great sense of humor and is probably one of the best math teachers at cscc. Take his class...You WONT be dissappointed!!
Best math prof I've had at CSCC. His lectures were easy to follow and he always does a TON of examples. His homework policy was a bit overbearing (My Math Lab) but it's all about getting extra practice in. He had a couple opportunities for extra credit. If you do all the work required, you'll get an A or B easy. Just don't fall behind in MML.
Tim was excellent! I took his Web MATH 103 class. Uses My Math Lab for homework, assigned weekly, along with quizzes. 3 tests and a final, and drops the lowest of 6 quiz scores. Prompt at returning emails, and gave 3 day extension on a test after a power outage knocked out internet. Tests are short and written exactly like the homework. Thanks Tim!
Web course student. Very easy to follow due dates and expectations. Kept me easily on track. However, I felt that there wasn't much direction and I basically self taught myself thru the course by using the book. He did email me back rather quickly when I had questions. I would take his class again just wish the lectures online were more helpful.
This is the best teacher I have ever had. He had a short schedule 3 Test, 10 Quizzes and the final. Oh, and mymathlab homework. He is a excellent teacher take his class you won't regret it.
Very easy math class, and he makes it even easier. He is very clear on directions, and leaves little room for misunderstandings. He never took role, and everything covered can be learned through mymathlab.
Clear and concise. Does a great job of letting you know what's due the current week and what is coming up the next week. Highly recommended!
Tim was a solid teacher. When I needed his help, he was good at responding to emails and visits at office hours. You DO NOT need the textbook at all. Almost all of the hw was through MathLab. Just stick to mathlab and study guides and you'll be fine.
Pretty great teacher. But sometimes I found the material a little bit hard
Awesome teacher!!!!
Tim is an absolutely amazing teacher. Incredibly laid back and actually cares about his students. Very fair and super honest. All around quality person.
Mr. Boyer is a great teacher, excellent communicator, and consistently updates his students on a weekly basis.
Hands down to Professor Boyer. Now, take this from someone who did not pass the class but tried.
Mr. Boyer has been one of the best math teacher for me. He explains things thoroughly and answers all questions. Wish he was there through Caluculs III
He assigns A LOT of homework, but you don't need to do any of it. Tests and quizzes make up 95% of your grade, between 10 quizzes and 5 tests. Only 15-25 questions per test, and he offers a very comprehensive review before hand. Always answers questions, even dumb ones. Great professor and I hope he teaches the next level. Take him.
He assigned a lot of homework. Way too much to only be worth 30 points at the end of the semester. Tests were the majority of the grade. Tests had questions that were not covered until the next week. If you had to take the test on a Saturday, you were sol. He was the only math teacher I've ever had that did not include formulas on the test.
He's a really great math teacher. His examples are clear and he's available to students. Yes, there's a lot of homework worth only a sliver of the grade but it's designed to prepare you for quizzes and tests. If you're confident, skip it, but don't expect to do well on tests without having practiced the concepts.
I would avoid any class taught by Mr. Boyer, every person in my 9 person class failed for our summer semester. He looks annoyed when he is asked questions. I went to every class, but he moves quickly so my notes and examples didn't always help me.
I am HORRIBLE with math (and hate it) even even with trying hard but he made every attempt to help me by answering emails and making sure I was aware of the free tutoring the school offered a few times during the semester. LOTS of MyMathLab homework worth 30 pts. Do reviews on MML because his reviews don't cover everything on the exams.
Took class online, passed with a B. He assigns a lot of homework from "my math lab" arranging anywhere from 25-50 questions per chapter. Each week your given 1-3 chapters, with a 10 question quiz at the end of the week, graded by the quiz worth 11 points each. HW is for you to learn. Quizzes are all online and the 3 given test are taken on campus.
He does a great job of explaining things, although all of his points come from exams and quizzes. You get two attempts on the quizzes. His final exam is a totally different format than his mid-term exams. Instead of giving a problem that is a "sample" he puts out a series of problems that you are free to "apply your skills" on rather than justsolve
Weekly homework assignments and quizes, 4 tests, midterm and final. Professor Boyer is available for questions and responds to emails quickly. If you do all the homework the tests are a breeze.
Professor Boyer lays out the whole semester right fromt the start and you can work ahead if you need/want to. He is always available for questions and grades tests quickly. I would take all my math classes with him if I could.
I took math1075 as a blended course. Prof Boyer was overall a decent prof, however I wouldn't take this class unless you are very self motivated and are pretty good at math/self teaching. Lots of homework and weekly quizzes, sometimes hours worth a week, and its not worth many points. 4 test and a final that are worth most of your grade
Tim is the best math instructor I've ever had. I have always struggled with math and I received an A in this class. Granted, I had to study and work hard, but he answered any questions I had via e-mail or during office hours. There are four tests, a midterm and final, and a lot of objective assignments and quizzes via Aleks, but this math.
Its been about 7yrs since I been in school and coming back I was very nervous. I am a visual learner and being in Class Boyers lecture was easy to follow, I felt like I grasped everything. I also felt comfortable with participating and any time I had issues he was available via email and after class. Great at his job, I'm sad to leave lol
This was my second term with Tim and I'm sad I cannot take him for my final math course! He is a great professor and cares about his students. He is always willing to help and will respond to emails and has accessible office hours. He is also very patient and kind and will teach you the easiest methods in solving the problems.
Tim is a great teacher, I took his Aleks 1099 corse. He was a great instructor and was eager to help any students with a question. The way he assists in problem-solving and teaching with the student (one on one, during an Aleks course). The class has weekly topic goals (homework) of 30 topics per week. Attendance is mandatory!
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM. Literally, the worst professor I have ever had. I failed the class even with a tutor. I emailed him on multiple occasions looking for help even though I had a tutor and he offered none at all. He does not care about his students because the class is set up so you fail. His emails were harsh and rude.
He was my instructor for my semi-online math course, Math 1099. I felt that he was really down-to-earth and easy to talk to. He was always ready to to help and answer any of our questions. I felt that he explained everything in the simplest way, and went step-by-step. If you didn't understand, he went go over again.
Tried hard, had tutor, contacted professor regarding trouble in class but response was not to par. He seems like he is a good guy but definitely not my kind of professor. Sometimes students learning styles don't match with their professors method of teaching.
Agreed with the previous comment. It seems like he is a nice guy, but not my kind of a professor. He recorded video-lectures, they are very slow, examples he gives do not match the actual homework tasks, so prepare to educate yourself. Every time I watch his videolectures I want to fall asleep, because it's really slow and not very helpful.
He was very nice and helped me when I needed help.
Tim is a wonderful professor, if it wasn't for him I don't think I would have learned trig as well as I have! I took a trig class with a different professor before and failed. This time around its whole new world. The lectures and videos are very easy to follow and he makes sure to answer any questions in depth before a test. Ample testing time!
Had to watch plenty of hour-long pre-recorded lectures to learn the material but the textbook where you do homework expects different work than what he wanted for exams. Not really willing to accommodate. There were numerous homework problems every week and a quiz almost every week.
PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE QUESTIOING TO TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! At the beginning of this class, I was failing. I got 1/20, 3/20, and 8/20 on my first 3 quizzes. I started to see Mr.Boyer before and after class every time and he always stopped whatever he was doing to help me out. He genuinely cares about his students. Try your best, and you will pass!!
AMAZING PROFESSOR! He has good explanations and is extremely helpful. If you can take a class with him, I HIGHLY recommend it. He has to grade strictly because of the transfer credit agreement. There is no extra credit, but the lowest quiz score is dropped. I struggled with math and had bad teachers in hs, but Mr. Boyer was a game changer 100%.
I took Prof. Boyers Trig class over the summer so it was online but I had the best experience with him throughout all of my online classes. His lectures are clear and detailed if you don't understand something ask him and he will help you understand. Complete 90% of the homework he will give you full credit. Grades like every math mathematician.
As someone who's been out of school for 2 years, he was able to make me understand the subject quite easily, but I still had to put in some work outside of class. Quiz are like the HWs and same with the test, but a little harder. You get one quiz drop for the lowest score and you only need to do 90% of the HW to get an 100. Good luck.
Had to take calculus over the summer which I thought would be brutal but professor Boyer made it one of the easiest classes. He genuinely seems to care that students know the material. He would always go through the homework assignments and pick out problems he thought challenging and go over them in class so students knew how to do unique problems
This class is an online ALEKS course so if you cant learn like that this isn't for you. Mr. Boyer's grading was very clear and helpful feedback. Every Wednesday and Sunday were the assignment due dates, a worksheet and 30 topics a week. If you do take this class actually take the time to learn it. its a lot.
I've always struggled with math in general. I have already taken a few math classes at CSCC but this is one is my favorite. Great lectures, goes over difficult questions, helps students, etc. He really cares about his students, and this was one of my favorite classes.
Do not take this prof unless you want to fall asleep during class. He is a really nice guy, but I struggled to learn the material. I'm constantly watching old lectures in order to learn, because all he does is talk and show examples and barely explains why things work. I am afraid that I will fail this class and I have always excelled in math:(
Confusing rating I know, but he really is a great teacher. However, I struggled to latch onto the material because it was mostly done online (assignments were). I have ADHD so my brain tends to scramble solving methods like crazy. I would spend hours trying to figure out WHY some problems were solved a certain way/solved differently online.
Took this prof for trig. Boyer is good at teaching; so long as you pay attention and keep up with the pace of the class, you will get a C. The exams are difficult, but trig in general is hard. This isn't a class where you can put no effort and get a good grade. I would've had a higher grade had I taken this class seriously sooner.
Boyer is really amazing at teaching and answers questions, but I have the same opinion as the person below, if you don't take the class seriously, you'll scrape by with a C. If I had taken the class seriously at the beginning, I could've easily gotten a higher score.
