Brelinski is an amazing lecturer with great clarity. There's quite a bit of reading, but you can get by with just his lecture slides. Tests are really easy if you memorized the material. Both midterms + the final were 80 multiple choice each, all basic recall questions. Highly recommend this guy as he does a good job teaching something worthwhile.
Very enthusiastic, tells the stories in a very interesting way rather than just regurgitating what the textbook says. Do the reading and pay some attention and you will get an A. Exams are MC, very straightforward. One of my favorite classes of all time, HIGHLY recommend taking CLA 10 with him.
Professor Brelinski is AMAZING. He knows his stuff, he teaches it passionately, and he adores his students. As long as you listen in class, you can forsure get an A. He posts all powerpoints on smartsite. Easy class, great professor!
Brelinski has high expectations and he can be a very harsh grader. He is fair though and he is very helpful if you ask questions. He assigns a ridiculous amount of reading and he always gets behind in his lectures, but he makes up for it through the quality of them and his clear passion for the subject. The class was great and I will take him again
Wonderful Professor! Taken a couple of his classes and he is a real joy to learn from. He has high expectations, but if you pay attention, study, and work hard, it will be to your benefit.
Definitely one of the easiest class at Davis. Don't go to lecture or buy the textbook. Powerpoints are posted online and all the test questions are taken from there. If you memorize this content, you will ace the tests. Take this class! It's fun too.
Easy easy easy easy class. You just need the PowerPoints and go to lecture. He said from the beginning that his exams are made straight from the PowerPoints. He loves the subject as well. Amazing
Easy class. Didn't buy the textbook and just studied the powerpoints. Very nice professor
Easiest class you will even take at davis. He also seems to really love teaching and the subject, which is really refreshing.
Great professor that is passionate about the subject and shows great enthusiasm. Really cares about his students and is more than willing to help out in any way possible. However, this class was hard as a GE. 90% of your grade is based off of essays, and the TA's are relatively harsh graders. However, do ask for help and you will succeed!
He makes the subject interesting, and he's super nice. The tests aren't easy, but he's super helpful during office hours.
Lectures aren't mandatory but it's best if you show up. He is very passionate for what he's teaching and he teaches it so well! I don't regret taking the class at all! He has a schedule and keeps to it, but I personally love knowing what to expect and when to expect it. No surprises and pretty straight forward.
Brelinski is brilliant! He's so nice & helpful! There is a quiz every week and although they weren't SUPER easy, if you do the assigned bookwork, make flashcards, and memorize the power points , you could get away with getting A's after studying for only like 2 hours a week. Definitely recommend this class!!! you will not regret it!
I never ever bother to comment or rate professors on online websites like this, but I just had to laud Professor Brelinski because he is by far my favorite professor at UC Davis. I just love how he's such a nice person and make lectures interesting, and you could really tell that he loves his students too. Would definitely take him again.
Brelinski is a great professor. He kept the class interested in a class that can typically drag on... I mean it's word roots. But, I genuinely enjoyed the class. I learned quite a bit, and the class is definitely worth it if you put in the time to study. There are weekly quizzes and homework, but no midterm or papers. I highly recommend him. Easy B
He knows the material so well he doesn't even have to look at the powerpoints for reference. He cares a lot about his students and is very helpful when you ask questions. I did all the reading, though it was not necessary. If you know the powerpoints, you wil succeed. I did this and I received 100% on both midterm 2 and the final.
Professor Brelinski is amazing lecturer. He always makes class really entertaining ane interesting. Previously, I thought this class was just reciting some word roots. But you can learn more staff than that, such as linguistics and Greek mythology. You need put lots of effort to get a good grade, due to weekly quizes.
Brelinski is hilarious! An easy class for GE units. He posts the powerpoints on smartsite beforehand so you can either take notes or refer to them in your laptop. You don't have to attend lectures to pass the class because everything is online. Weekly quizzes are a pain in the butt, but it's doable. Class requires minimal effort for a B.
Really nice guy. All the info you need to know are on slides but there are 400-500 slides per exam. You can review after every lecture and spend few hours before midterm to study OR you do nothing whole quarter and study 12 hrs straight before each exam. The class is not a breeze but it isn't difficult. A lot of memorization, no trick questions.
He's okay but he rushed in way to many slides every day. He was going 50 to 60 slides a day, which were pure memorization. The class is not easy! I was memorizing random relationships between people half the time. And he always says RIGHT? after each sentence! Super annoying!
Go into this class expecting it to be an easy A and you'll end up with a B or a C. This class, although easy, required work. Weekly quizzes that are worth 10% of your grade. If you are the type that slacks off and waits last second to start studying for an exam I would avoid this class, it's not for you. Besides that, Professor is awesome.
I had really high expectations for this class however it turned out to be an insane amount of memorization of tiny details. You don't really have to go to lecture, but unless you study HARD for this class, you won't pass. He is a really great professor though. Personally, would not take this class again.
This class was fun and his lectures were interesting and helpful. No curve, there are weekly quizzes worth 10% and if you don't study you probably wont pass. The class is pretty straightforward but you have a lot of memorization to do. Amazing professor.
Pretty easy class; you just have to memorize a lot. Lectures alternate between entertaining and kinda boring, depending on whether it's a grammar or classical culture day. Not a big deal if you miss a class sometimes since ppts are online, but there's a quiz every week and worksheet due every Mon. Prof is great though, recommend any of his classes.
Brelinski is so nice! Seriously the most helpful lecturer in office hours! Class definitely required studying since there were weekly quizzes but if you study the topics he tells you to study ahead of time you'll be golden! Final material mostly comes from the workbook so definitely necessary!
Weekly quizzes, two midterms and a final. Quizzes were fair but took a good amount of studying to prepare for them. Boring lectures. Prof. Brelinski lost control of the class sometimes and people would talk over him.
He was a great professor! Although we have quizzes every Friday and they are sometimes tough, his passion and enthusiasm for the class makes it all worth it! I would definitely recommend him.
He is a great teacher. He's really nice and the class was fun and not stressful. Study his slides and know the facts (which won't be as hard as it seems because its all fun stories) and you'll breeze through the exams.
This class was pretty clear cut. There was a quiz every week but as long as you study the power points you will do fine. It was an overall enjoyable class and didn't require too much work.
Professor Brelinski is just amazing, this class is fun and very interesting. There is ALOT of memorizing to do, but it's do able. You do need to work a little to get an A, but as long as you go to lecture and office hours you are golden. Office hours really saved my life because my TA would review the lecture slides and go in depth and explain more
Definitely cares about his subject and his students. Went out of his way to learn everyone's names and genuinely cares about his students. Definitely one of the nicest people I've met. His class is pretty easy as well, almost split between weekly quizzes that he gives you the answer to before hand, and writing.
Have a quiz every week, gives your grade a good buffer. Each quiz is 25 questions. No midterm, final 100 questions. Tells you what is going to be on all the tests. If you can memorize, such an easy A. It's all memorization. No reading. Very straightforward. Posts lecture slides online so you don't really have to go to class.
He is one of the be st in the classics department. He is a funny guy
Professor Brelinski is an extremely friendly and hilarious guy. His lectures were straight forward and the course is set up to help freshmen transition to university. There are weekly multiple choice exams, which he will tell you in advance what you will be tested on. Homework to do in your book (which you don't turn in) and a final.
The lectures were interesting and informative. The weekly quizzes aren't so bad, just study/memorize the material and you'll score above 80%. He also drops your 2 lowest scores out of the 9 quizzes so that's nice. There is homework every week but it's easy and straightforward. If you're interested in Greek/Latin at all then take this class.
Professor Brelinski is a really passionate and enthusiastic professor. You can tell by his funny storytelling during lectures or how much he cared about every student. There's a quiz every week but as long as you review the materials, it won't be that hard. What I learned in this course really helps me understand more in biology .
Weekly quizzes releases the stress of giant, grade-dependant midterms. I thought I was going to hate this class, but Brelinski is a fantastic lecturer. The book is so repetitive that I glaze over it but then miss the important material. Final heavy on book work and less on lecture slides. iClicker used for paints. Two quizzes dropped.
Fantastic professor, Clear in lectures, though there is a lot of material. Class is mostly memorization, but still enjoyable if you like what he's teaching. Funny guy, explains things well, and really knows his stuff. No midterms and two (out of 9) dropped quizzes. Tougher final than expected though. Not quite an *easy* A, but definitely doable.
Dr. Brelinski is an amazing lecturer. He's a fun guy and makes the information fun to learn. I wouldn't suggest taking this class merely for an easy GE, it's not an easy A, more so an easy B. The weekly quizzes seem bad but it's a lot of info so it's better than midterms. Very approachable, I want to take another classics class just to have him.
The clicker questions make up 2% of the grade. You have weekly quizzes covering two chapters a week (the current chapter and the previous chapter). WARNING: Only take this class if you are good at memorizing a lot of words, phrases, and history. Not an easy GE personally for a freshman going into their first quarter.
Great professor. There are weekly quizzes, but he goes over what the quiz will consist of. A lot of memorization so if you're not good at that, I honestly wouldn't recommend this class. The homework is super easy since he provides a key for it the same day (easy 8%). Again, awesome professor with interesting lectures.
Brelinski is amazing! He was very passionate about the subject and makes the class fair because he wants everyone to do well. There is a quiz every Friday that are 10% of your grade each but 2 are dropped. This class was easy if you put the effort in to study and pay attention in lecture; however, it's almost all memorization.
The quizzes are your whole grade, plus a cumulative final. Its ALOT of memorization. Because of that it is not a easy class. Brelinski is really passionate and he will make you interested. Even if hes talking about dictionaries. You need the workbook. He posts his lectures.
Professor Brelinski obviously has a passion for classics. His tests are really straightforward as long as you do the homework and pay attention in class. Try to sit toward the front of the class because the farther you are, the more likely you will fall asleep. The subject matter is pretty boring, but Brelinski does his best to make it interesting.
Weekly quizzes and a final. The material was pretty dry, but he made it somewhat more interesting. You have to go to class for iclicker credits. He posted his lecture slides online so I just studied off them, did not take any notes. The class was bland memorization so it was pretty straightforward/easy. As long as you study you should do well.
If you're thinking this is an easy GE think again. Read every book, studied hard for every quiz, and went to his office hours twice a week every week and still ended up with a B+. Professor Brelinski is an incredible lecturer and super helpful; however, he and his TAs are some of the hardest graders you will encounter. Take this class with caution.
He's a great professor, he really cares and he also tells you exactly what you need to know for the tests and quizzes. Pretty easy A here.
Brelinski is the BEST! I wouldn't take this class by any other professor. He is very clear, and as long as you take notes/listen the essays and tests are a breeze! Just a little long, but not too bad. We didn't have a final either, so it was great!
If you like to read during your free time, then why not get credit for it?
Brelinksi is probably one of my favorite professors. He's a great lecturer and really engages with his students. He laughs at his own jokes, which often makes the class laugh too haha. Other than that, study the powerpoints and you'll do just fine on the weekly quizzes. I recommend if you're a pre-med or anything of that sort.
HE IS MY FAV THIS QUARTER!! he lectures as if he is your friend; he is hilarious and I really enjoy listening to him. There is a weekly quiz but he gives you EVERYTHING you need to know (powerpoints) and tells you what to study exactly. It's a class that you could def get an A in. He's one of those teachers that you just like right away
Brelinksi is a super chill professor. His lectures sometimes drag but he is very friendly/approachable. He tells you exactly what's going to be on the quiz and drops the 2 lowest quiz scores. However, be prepared to memorize a lot of terms. He also gives you the key to the hw so you can check your answers prior to turning it in.
Although this classes tests are relatively easy given that they are multiple choice, the way the Brelinski teaches is honestly very annoying and confusing. He is a hilarious guy, just not a good teacher. He focused too much on Greek and Latin instead of teaching us Word Roots. For being a 3 unit class it was decently challenging, not an easy A.
There are quizzes once a week. Fun and interesting professor and engaging lectures. Interesting class but you actually have to do work to get an A in the class. He curves the class but not the weekly quizzes though he drops the two lowest scored ones. LOTS of memorization and do NOT need the textbook though he makes it "mandatory." Wasn't an easy A
Great professor. Spoke with passion during lectures and very clear on what material will be on the weekly quizzes (puts exact quiz prospectives in lecture slides, did the same for final). Easy weekly worksheets due. Made the material really interesting to learn. Rarely used the "Course On Words" book, but helped for extra practice. TAKE THIS PROF!
Professor Brelinski is an amazing lecturer. He brought life into a subject that I initally thought to be rather dry. His grading is clear and concise. He gives weekly quizzes instead of midterms, which forces you to learn the material so you'll be well pepraped for the final. Cla30F requires alot of memorization but the material isn't to difficult
He's a very passionate professor in this subject, making his lectures enjoyable and fun. He gives weekly quizzes that are 25 multiple-choice questions. Show up and pay attention to his lectures because it'll be on his quizzes and final. He does iClicker, giving you more reason to attend. Overall, he's made CLA30F very fun and interesting!
Had Brelinski for CLA30 in the fall, he's super funny in lectures and really puts in an effort to get the students interested in the material. Homework is fairly easy, textbook was required for readings that he would go over in lecture. Weekly quizzes instead of midterms. It was always a joy to come to his class.
Very fun class. Although there were many things to memorize (almost like a history class), it was the fun kind of history class. Weekly quizzes, not a lot of homework, and a very nice and respectful professor.
Prof. Brelinski is one of the nicest and most approachable instructors I've taken. He's just so passionate about what he teaches that I just had to be interested in the material. The class is very straightforward. Weekly papers and quizzes. He hands out quiz study guides, and the TAs are always willing to help out with papers. 110% recommended.
Professor Brelinski is one of the best professors I've had in my whole undergraduate experience. He is very kind and understanding. Class is easy as long as you come into lecture and take good notes. I did not touch the textbook and ended up with an A in the class. Note that this class is pure memorization.
He's a great professor, really passionate about what he teaches. The coursework isn't too difficult, just a lot of straight memorization, such as dates and places. Study the PowerPoint, and you're golden. Quiz every Friday, but questions are taken directly from the slides. Just pay attention, and you'll be fine.
Professor Brelinski is so passionate about this subject that it captivated me from the start. He's such a laid back professor, but still makes your work for your grade. I would definitely take another class with him! You won't regret taking his class. One of the few professors that I really admire. Bonus, he's charming and handsome too!
HIGHLY recommend taking this class with Brelinski! He's funny, entertaining, and this class is an easy A. If you're a science major (like myself) definitely take this class. It's a lot of memorization, but is a nice contrast to the conceptual work you'll be doing in your other science/math classes. TAKE THIS CLASS.
Professor Brelinski is always passionate and entertaining. You have to study for his class but it's just pure memorization. He only tests you on what is covered in class and slides so it is fair game. Definitely take this class if you want to boost your GPA!
This class is requires a ridiculous amount of time outside for an elective/ G.E. I only took this class because I heard it was an easy A, and I needed a filler class. I recommend another elective instead of this one. The exams require way too much studying for a simple elective - you can find easier electives, by far. * Textbook not required
Brelinksi is a fine fellow, though a bit of a challenge if you are taking upper divisions courses. You must stay up to date of word roots (as the title says), and there are a lot. Do not let the first couple weeks fool you, it gets a little bit harder. There is homework, but it poses no real threat, as the answers will be provided once you submit
Brelinski was easily the best professor I had this quarter. There are quizzes every Friday (25 multiple choice) which means you have to keep up with the material. There is a bit of memorization required because you need to know the roots. If you keep up with the morphemes and pay attention to lecture this class is easy. Also had engaging lectures.
Brelinski is easily my favorite professor this quarter. Even though he posts the powerpoints online, you should go to his lectures because they're really enjoyable. There are 25 question quizzes every week and a final, and if you do the workbook homework and memorize the morphemes you should excel. I highly recommend him!
Not an easy GE, tons of memorization. You memorize more than 150 prefix per quiz and other history dates. If your taking lot of science courses and thinking of taking this class to have slack time, your wrong.
Don't take this as an easy GE. Harder than both chem and bio.
Easy GE if you're good at memorization. I skipped all the lectures after week 1, but I studied his lectures outside of class and aced all the tests. Real nice guy, gives clear instructions. Technically, you're supposed to go to class for daily participation (7% of grade) but if your tests are high enough you're good to skip. Study lecturesA
Dr. Brelinski is an amazing lecturer. He's funny and always has a smile on his face. His presentations are easy to follow and are posted on Canvas for you to review if needed. Homework was easy and manageable, especially if you have a busy schedule. Great and useful class if you're the College of BioSci. Class outlook: 9 quizzes and the final.
Thought this class would be an easy A as most of the upperclassmen said, although you definitely need to work A LOT for this class. Weekly quizzes (25 MCQ) and they are 65% of your grade. I didn't think the quizzes were easy, and did have to work my butt off.
Professor Brelinski was my favorite! He really knows his stuff, and is always trying to make jokes. Weekly quizzes expected however, they are not hard as he reviews the material that will be in the quiz. Easy class, and very enjoyable.
Good Freshman class, interesting with Greek and Latin origin words. Class is really well structured and Brelinski keeps on schedule. Class consists of 9 quizzes, homework (will get 100%) and a final. Quizzes are 65% of the grade so it was difficult for me to stay on top of studying every week for them. If you prefer a lighter final, take this class
Such a lovely, animated guy! He made 9am Classics very bearable. The quizzes can be tough because he covers a lot of material and sometimes quizzes you on words in the textbook that weren't mentioned in class. However, he lets you drop 2 out of the 9 quizzes so it's not bad at all!
Professor Brelinski makes lectures fun and entertaining. He is one of those teachers who is really passionate about what they are teaching and who really cares about the students. He makes it clear what is going to be on quizzes and tests with a prospectus, which is really helpful too.
Awesome teacher and class. Made his lectures interesting and easy to understand. Alot of memorization and weekly quizzes are given. He covers alot in his lectures but if you pay attention and do the workbook you can pass the quizzes. There is no curve but he does drop two of your lower quiz scores. Final was not hard. Overall great class.
Brelinski was so great. He had so many resources and made it easy to study and get a good grade. He made sure that everything was easy to understand and stress free so that you could enjoy the content. Most of the time I just sat and listened to his lectures to just absorb all of the information. He is very passionate and very caring of all.
His class is both super easy and super interesting. Just by attending lecture you can tell he is really passionate about everything he is talking about. Be prepared though to come to a majority of the lectures because he specifically highlights what will be on the quizzes. No midterms, weekly quizzes that require memorizing word parts.
Dr. Brelinski is an amazing lecturer!!! His class is straightforward. I would recommend taking notes before going to the lecture. At least go through the practice in the book before quiz day. He gives study guide, so, do it! Should be an easy A.
Dr. Brelinski seems like a cool guy and very personable, but Word Roots was very boring and honestly contained zero useful information. The school pushes this class on bio majors, but you don't learn hardly any roots that would help with analyzing biological terms. However, it is a very easy class to take for a GE.
Everything you need to know is on the syllabus. There are quizzes every week, so stay on top of studying. I thought it was going to be an easy A, but it kept me on my feet. Make sure to study all the morphemes. Nice guy, and tried to make the slides engaging to the students.
This class was too much work for a 3 unit course; there were weekly quizzes but the material was pretty easy and all memorization.
The grade is mostly based on 7 quizzes you take during the quarter (9 total, 2 dropped, 65% of grade). Im about halfway through the quarter and the class isnt too difficult, and it teaches you a TON of new words and word roots. The lectures are fairly interesting, but the textbook absolutely sucks (its only about $20 on the bright side).
i thought that CLA 30 would be an easy GE, but I was wrong. I ended up spending way too much time studying for the weekly quizzes every Friday, when my time could have been spent studying for my more important classes. Even though an A is very possible, I do not believe this class is worth the hassle.
Not hard at all. Homework and quizzes were beyond easy. Yeah sure a quiz a week but it's just memorizing roots that most people already know so you can't really complain about that. I also love Tim! He's always in a good mood, which puts others in a good mood, and he's always cracking jokes. Wouldn't hesitate to take him again!
You should get textbook but no need to write in it. A lot of memorization of roots, vocabulary, etymologies and dates but quizzes are fairly straightforward. 9 quizzes, drops lowest 2, one cumulative final. Only annoying thing is u need to buy tophat for $26 to answer his questions in class. It's a giant class with all freshman but really easy
Its an easy class tbh but you have to start studying literally the first week so you wont fall behind like I did. Quizzes every Friday and he drops two quizzes at the end.
I never bought the textbook and it was an easy A. Weekly quizzes, but as long as you study a little it's very doable. Professor Brelinski is my favorite teacher I've had a Davis so far. He's pretty funny and he's always in a good mood. He makes a subject that could be really boring actually very interesting.
The professor is amazing!
Prof Brelinski is truly passionate about what he teaches. Get the textbook, used ones are easily available. Do the assigned units and study his lecture notes to do well on the quizzes. Do not fall behind, keep up with the units because each quiz tests the material from the week before as well as new material. Overall straightforward A.
Hilarious professor! You can easily get an easy A, all you have to do is memorize the meanings of each root/phrase and you are quizzed on it. Dont buy the book, waste of money. I never touched mine. His class is fun and very enjoyable.
Classics 30 was an awesome class. Prof. Brelinski is super passionate about what he teaches and is just an awesome dude. I loved this class, but it isn't an easy A. You have to put time and effort into the course, but it pays off tremendously. I would highly recommend this class, especially if you are taking a foreign language class!
CLA 30 is good, and interesting. Professor Brelinski is amazing teacher and extremely helpful. You need to study for daily quizzes and final. Helps Bio majors with language.
HE IS SOOOO GOOOD!!!! The class is so amazing and helpful on vocabulary. Even though lots of the words, prefixes, suffixes, etc. to remember! But everything is worthy. The class is so worthy to learn! If you pay the effort, you can get a straight A! He drops two lowest scores for the quizzes as well as the lowest score for one homework assignment!!
Professor Brelinski is a really great guy. His lectures are always very interesting and he gives relevant, useful material that helps with other classes. It was fun to go to class! There are easy weekly quizzes and a cumulative multiple-choice final and that's it. The textbook is also important.
Tim was the best! The course material is boring but it is easy to get an A as long as you study. Grade is made up of a weekly quiz, online homework once a week that you will always get 100% on, and the final. He drops two quizzes and one homework! Loved Tim, great guy.
Hes a very great professor very nice but the class itself is overwhelming Bc u have to memorize a lot of terms and its only a GE . MAKE SURE to study since day one
He won't test on what he hasn't gone over in lectures. very interesting and easy class
Tim is a great professor! He really tries to make class enjoyable. The class is interesting too, but it is quite a bit of a workload. Weekly 25 question quizzes every Friday, so you have to make sure you're actually studying for the class (quizlets help!). A lot of memorization. I didn't study as much as I could have but I still ended up with a B+.
Tim is an amazing professor who makes a seemingly boring subject about Greek and its history quite intriguing and useful especially for more science based majors. He genuinely cares about his students and tries his best to explain certain topics that may be more difficult to understand. Highly recommend taking this class just for Professor Brelinsk
This class was easy and enjoyable. There's weekly quizzes but it's simple because he tells you what's going to be on the quiz. He drops the two lowest quiz scores. There's a lot to memorize and it can be tedious, but the material is easy. He's a good professor and really chill. You have to pay for TopHat which is how you participate in class.
Easy A! Go to lecture (I didn't even take notes, I just paid attention) and make quizlets to study. He loves the material and it shows. He will never quiz you on something that isn't covered in class. Before the quiz he gives a "quiz prospectus" outlining exactly what you need to know before the quiz. Very straightforward and highly recommend!
Quizzes every Friday, which make up for most of your grade. Do good on these quizzes and you should be fine. This class is basically all memorization.
His class is just lots of memorization of morphemes. The best way to study is to memorize the morphemes and names after each lecture, so it will not be overwhelming when studying for weekly quizzes and final. The quizzes and final are very straightforward and quick.
Brelinski is the most amazing professor ever. He has a clear grading rubric that can literally help anyone. He drops 1 homework score, and drops 2 quizzes. Every week he gives a prospectus also to tell us exactly what the quiz will be covering that week. He is also very approachable! Visit him in Office Hours, he's great. Yes you need the book!
Brelinski is the best professor I have had at UC Davis. He is such a cool guy, plus the class is really easy as long as you can memorize the content. I sat in the front row of his lecture every day and he makes the class interesting! I talked to him before class on some days and he really appreciates talking to his students. He is a must take!!!
This class was a lot of memorization, didn't realize how much til I took the class. The history part of this class was a little dull but for the most part if you studied for 2-3 hours every week, you should do amazing on the quizzes which are worth 65% of your grade. They're weekly quizzes, including material you learned that week + the week before
Professor Brelinski is such a cool guy. We have 9 quizzes and a final, but the quizzes are multiple choice and are based off of lecture material and material from the book. The class is an easy A if youre willing to put some time into studying. Overall, amazing class. I highly recommend CLA 30, especially with Professor Brelinski.
Brelinski is a really funny professor who is really interested in what he is teaching. He is good about reviewing information that will be on the quizzes. As long as you do the work out of the workbook, you will get an A. The class is a bit of memorization, but its not too time consuming. He is my favorite professor, and I definitely recommend!
Brelinski is a great lecturer. There are a 9 quizzes and he drops your 2 lowest scores, online hw with unlimited attempts, textbook hw not mandatory, lectures are mandatory for iClicker participation grades, and a final. It's an easy class, but there's ALOT of memorization. Most of the time 100-200 terms per unit and you get quizzed on 2 units/week
The best part about Professor Brelinski is he truly loves the content he teaches. This is extremely helpful and engaging to the students; however, please do not think this is an easy A. In all seriousness you will need to study hard for the weekly quizzes because they are not easy. Getting an A in this class required several hours of work outside.
Professor Brelinski is one of the best Professors here at Davis. He is such an amazing lecturer. It's clear how much he enjoys what he teaches and that makes me want to learn more. This class would've been uninteresting and boring if it weren't for him. Just make sure you memorize what he tells you to memorize for the quizzes as they are not easy.
Dr. Brelinski loves what he teaches and his passion for classics is almost infectious. Weekly quizzes make up 65% of your grade, but he releases a study guide before each quiz explaining exactly what you'll need to know. The catch is that you will need to memorize a lot. Sometimes goes off-topic during lecture, but he's a great professor overall
Easy class. Anyone who is telling you that this class is difficult or too much studying is simply lying to themselves and others. I studied about 45 minutes a week and I aced every quiz. If you get less than a B in this class than I seriously question the reason you were ever in college in the first place. Don't be lazy, and your GPA will thank you
This class was fine. Content was very straight forward. You could honestly never attend class and teach yourself all the material using the lecture powerpoints that he posts online, if he didnt use iClicker for in class participation. Most of your grade is the weekly quizzes so beware.
Easy class if you use Quizlet to study for the weekly quizzes the night before. Homework once a week online.
I am forever grateful that I had CLA 30F taught by Professor Brelinski for my first-ever quarter of college. He is very accommodating and his class is straight forward and just straight-up interesting. His material is definitely something that will help with your academic career and life. Show-up, review, and do the workbook and that A is yours.
He's a good professor. Makes grading criteria very clear in the beginning of class so you know exactly what you need to do to do well. Just study and you will get an A. PURELY memorization, no difficult concepts. Fair warning tho, this class was more work than I expected. You can miss up to 4 classes and still get 100% attendance points
I know everyone says this is an easy GE, BUT IT TAKES A LOT OF YOUR TIME. I personally hate memorization, so this class was a bit of a struggle for me. It's easy in the fact that all you got to do is memorize. If you decide to take this class, know that it isn't as "easy" as everyone says, and you need time to memorize everything.
I thought this would be an easy GE. It was not. I definitely spent every night before each quiz cramming. That being said, Brelinski himself is a good lecturer. He tries to make the lectures as interesting as possible and doesn't mind too much if you're not paying attention, so just go, do your own thing, but make sure to study for quizzes.
Professor Brelinski is an amazing professor. Though there were quizzes every week, I felt they were helpful when the cumulative final came around. His lectures are interesting, and his tests were focused more so on memorization. The book, though not required, helped prepare for the weekly quizzes & costs around $30.
This class was so boring, every single day. Brelinski was really interested and excited about it, though. Totally not worth 3 credits, by the end of the quarter you have to memorize around 100 words/phrases and the quizzes get increasingly harder. Asks iclicker questions every class which count as participation for your grade.
Lectures were kind of boring but Brelinski is super funny, full of energy, and really loved the material he was teaching. Weekly 25 question quizzes. With one hour of studying the night before it was really easy to get at least 21/25. Clicker questions were based on participation rather than correctness.
Brelinski is an awesome professor and has amazing lectures. It may seem boring but he is a helpful man and the quizzes are super easy. Class is based on memorization and it's always the same content. He is also just a cool dude!
What can I say, he is one of my favorite professors here at Davis thus far. He is such a cool professor and always tries to make his lectures enjoyable and short. I have gone to his office during hours and he will answer any question you have and just enjoys connecting with his students. :) Would take it again.
Prof Brelinski was great! Each week there is one quiz/homework assignment on canvas. Lectures were asynchronous and there were 3-5 a week but very digestable. Content is interesting if you're good at language/history! Morphemes can be tedious but he does his best to make it in fun. Very good GE to take especially during covid online classes!
Pretty great professor. Homework and quizzes are given weekly. Lectures are asynchronous and will provide all the material needed. You get unlimited retakes for homework and quizzes were fair.
Brelinksi is a great professor! There are weekly quizzes and assignments, but he highlights what you need to know in the lecture slides so you are always prepared! The assignments have unlimited attempts and the final was very similar to the quizzes. It's an easy class if you take notes on his lectures, highly recommend!
professor brelinski was the best professor ive ever had! he made all the quizzes (even the final) very clear in terms of what was going to be in it! a lot of the work was also workbook based so it was not much work. definitely an easy GE !
prof brelinksi is the sweetest! took him my first quarter and loved it! the subject is very interesting and although the recorded lectures are hella long, its no different then how it would probably be in person. ur grade is made up of weekly quizzes and one cumulative final with questions from quizzes. super engaging and easy A! take this guy!
I really enjoyed this class and Dr. Brelinski! You can tell he's passionate about the material and this is evident in his lectures (this makes it much more fun to watch!) Easy class and an attainable amount of out of class work. Would definitely recommend this as a first year GE!!
I really loved Professor Brelinski's class. The workload is very minimal: weekly worksheets and quizzes. The worksheets give you an unlimited number of tries, so you can retake it for 100%. For the quizzes, he releases a ppt listing all the info you should know for it. As long as you watch the recorded lectures and take notes, you'll do great!
9 weekly quizzes, drops 2 and two attempts each. 9 worksheets, drops one and unlimited attempts. Cumulative final. If you're a bio/med student then the word roots shouldn't be too hard to memorize and the class will be an easy A as long as you turn everything in.
Took class online and definitely recommend taking while its still online because everything is open note so its a free A. Just needa watch weekly lectures and do workbook. Can still get an A easily without doing workbook as lectures were good. Weekly quizzes and ez questions, all mcq. Didnt take much of my time and learned a decent amount.
I loveddddd Brelinski! You can tell hes passionate about the topics and turns this class more into just word roots. I was expecting to just learn what prefixes were but he took it up a notch and had us transliterate Greek and learn about the origin of words from Greek legends. Great class!
I loved this class! Definitely a must-take as a useful but easy class. You not only learn etymology, but history/mythology and other information. Weekly quizzes were open note and there were about three video lectures per week. Only thing that could've made it better was if it were in person!
There were a lot of things to write down when it came to the etymology, the bases, the prefixes, etc. The fact that when he lectures, he looks like he is enjoying it very much, which made this class enjoyable. He drops 2 quizzes, the final was also open notes because the class was mainly asynchronous.
I had this Professor FQ 2020, the class consisted of lectures and weekly quizzes. The quizzes could be a little tricky but for the most part, everything could be found in your notes. He drops two quizzes and one homework assignment (also weekly). It is not too much work, but definitely an interesting and beneficial class.
Pretty easy class, 60% of your grade were the weekly quizzes in which all of the content could be found in the lectures. Final was not bad, basically a cumulative of the weekly quizzes.
Brelinski's lectures are very engaging and I actually look forward to it when I take notes for his class. Homeworks and quizzes are easy as long as you take good notes. Easy pass but if you want an A, take very precise notes because the quizzes do test you on lots of details. Overall super fun class! I can say that I know the Greek alphabet now :)
The homework assignments have unlimited attempts. Additionally, he drops two quiz scores. A solid pick for CLA30. Final has 100 questions, but the difficulty was not too bad. He gives you 3 hours and it takes approximately an hour and half to complete; therefore, you have plenty of time to double-check your answer choices.
I'm a stem major and thought to take this class as an easy GE but found myself really hating it. It wasn't a difficult class by any means but the shear amount of vocabulary and morphemes you are supposed to learn each week and by the final is just a lot. I'd personally take another bio class than this, learning lists of vocabulary just ain't fun.
I recommend his class. He makes the content super easy to learn and this is definitely the least stressful class I had all quarter. This is a must take class!
There are lots of things to memorize without a really good textbook just like my other linguistic prof have. So, it is kinda hard for me. But the lecture is more or less interesting. Worth to take it, but don't forget to take your notes and be ready to memorize them if not open notebook.
Lectures are quite easy to learn, and I learn a lot in this class. Homeworks are quite interesting and won't take much time. Quiz once every Saturday, but most contents can be found in the slides. Super long finals !!!
Eyo what's poppin. Brelinski is a stud of a man, super kind, nice, and a vibe. He knows his stuff, and very obviously passionate. Super funny, chill. Easy class, do the assignments and quizzes and you're fine. Definetely do flashcards and you definetely will need to study though. God save the queen.
His entire class is based on the lectures but don't worry! they are fun and interesting lectures! such an understanding professor too. I said there was a textbook but its more like a workbook that is not graded its just for your personal benefit to understand the material better. I really like him! Strongly recommend I hope I get to take him again.
Just show up to class, take thorough notes, and youll be fine. Weekly quizzes which are open notes and extremely easy. Great professor.
Interesting lecture plus loose grading policy, definitely inspiring and an easy A.
Amazing professor, made lectures interesting it's really easy to pass the class !! you can retake the hw as many times as you want till you get 100%, follow the quiz prospectus and you'll do fine on the quizzes! attendance isn't necessarily mandatory but he does iclicker, part of your grade. show up and you'll be ok! great GE to take
Great professor who loves what he's doing. It's very evident that he loves language and etymology, so please respect him and what he does. The class, is indeed, a free A, but please be sure to put in effort and give him thanks for being an amazing professor at the end of the quarter :)
An easy GE, no textbook needed if you look at quiz prospectives, you'll do fine on the quizzes. He drops the 2 lowest ones. The final was very fair & the class is pretty clear & organized. Lecture isn't needed but there's iclicker for participation. He's nice & passionate about the subject but his voice was quiet & low so hard to pay attention to.
Great professor, excellent lecturer. He makes classics, for even STEM students, interesting. As for difficulty, anyone (even in-states) can get 100% in this course, as long as you understand and follow the grading criteria. Beware, if you have poor internet connection, take this class with caution, as all assessments are online.
He's engaging and his lectures are enjoyable. Good sense of humor. The homework, the quizzes, and the final are all online and open note (at least they were this quarter).
a really awesome option for a GE. everything you need will be on the slides, which he uploads. the class content was really interesting as it covers a lot of different things. we talked about science, mythology, religion, greek alphabet etc. i suggest right off the bat, create a table of morphemes and update it throughout the quarter.
Prof. Brelinski was a really fun instructor for Word Roots. Very knowledgeable, accessible, and kind. Some of the most lenient grading I've ever encountered. Made me want to show up to lectures that were just for GE credit.
This class is an easy A, and it's interesting material that is actually pretty useful if you're pre-health. As long as you take good notes, you're good to go. Lots of memorization, but it's all assignments, quizzes, and the final are online. His class is very fun, I definitely recommend if you're looking for an interesting but easy GE
Very easy GE, very passionate about his subject so it makes it easier to learn. There was a textbook but I didn't end up using it and still did well in the class. Go to lectures and take notes, he grades participation. Overall easy grader as well.
Heavy lecture class with the grading style revolving around weekly quizzes (drops the 2 lowest) and worksheets (unlimited attempts). The material was difficult to digest and apply during quizzes. Enrolled thinking this was an easy GE, but it was challenging and requires HEAVY amounts of memorization and application. Maybe it just wasn't for me.
Class is organized and structured well. Just do the designated homework in the textbook and look over slides before quizzes. Final is similar difficulty (or lack thereof) to the quizzes.
Material was clear, interesting, and easy to understand. There were weekly worksheet assignments and quizzes. All quizzes and tests were open note and fairly easy. No projects or writing assignments. Highly recommend!
Great professor/lecturer. He is very caring and is passionate about what he teaches and it shows. There are weekly quizzes/worksheets which are pretty easy. This class does involve a fair amount of memorization but nothing too difficult. Would definitely recommend!!
Interesting course, not very hard.
Took class fall quarter 2021. No reason you shouldn't get an A if you do everything on time and take notes ( easy weekly quizzes/assignments). Enjoyed going to class because Brelinski was so passionate about the topic. I had a concussion in the beginning of the quarter and he was super understanding. What a man.
he's a really cool and chill professor, i liked his class and the material was interesting but still it wasn't a total easy A and does require some work! quizzes can be a little hard. fun class
CLA 001 was a super easy grade booster, just do the readings and submit the papers on time
I really enjoyed Dr. Brelinski's class. he was super nice and gave really good feedback when I asked him. questions. The material was super interesting and I highly reccoment this class. no final. 2 papers with one re-write and 5 reading quizzes every other week. really easy and fun!
A very understanding professor. Was sick for one week and he reopened a quiz for me after showing him the medical documentation. Great story-teller. Definitely learned a lot from him that you won't be able to learn elsewhere.
I just took notes on pre-recorded online lectures (very easy to follow along with), and the assignments/exams were very straightforward and directly related to the material. A solid class, would recommend it. The professor is a great lecturer.
Really love this class and Brelinski. HE IS AMAZING. All you need to do is to show up on time and review the materials he prepared for all the quiz and final. I ensure everyone could gain lots of knowledge and also a great grade!
He is a very enthusiastic teacher that obviously cares for what he is teaching. Weekly quizzes and homework, but the class is overall very easy.
Dr. Brelinski is an incredible lecturer, and I would highly recommend taking him! His passion about the history of words presents itself within his engaging lectures. Even though it was tedious at times dissecting many aspects of the English language in a etymological context, Dr. Brelinski was always happy to assist in his virtual office hours.
He is awesome! Despite the fact that some lectures are boring , he trying his best to make it fun and interesting. Lecture attendance matters because of clicker questions. Weekly easy HWs and quizzes. Final cumulative. Everything open note! Needs little memorization. Easy class overall and recommend him!
Professor Brelinski was a great lecturer! Participation counts during lectures, just an FYI, but it was really engaging. Class is graded on weekly quizzes, worksheets, participation, and the final; very organized and straightforward. Overall, a nice class, and I would recommend taking CLA10 (and any other classics classes)!
He is very entertaining and knows his stuff!
Grades are mostly made up of online quizzes and a final which is pretty friendly since you can find most answers if you pay attention to the lectures and ppt. Dr.Brelinski is a really patient and kind prof and our TA Terek is also really open with questions. So I will highly recommend everyone to take this class!!
Dr Brelinski is very nice. He knows wha he is talking about and tries his best to make boring stuff interesting for everyone. Lectures were basically mandatory and were 7% of our grade. The rest is all short multiple choice assignments and quizzes online. Not a hard class, definitely recommend for anyone.
Interesting lectures with mandatory attendance recorded through tophat Q's, which are 7% of your grade. 1 easy HW a week, unlimited retakes until 100%. 25 Q quiz due every Saturday, 1 try on canvas, given 30 min to complete. Final exam is 100 Q on canvas given 2 hrs to complete. Overall easy GE class with good material and cool professor.
Highly recommend to all UCD students! Professor Brelinski is enthusiastic and makes his lectures very interesting, making the class very enjoyable. It was comprised of weekly quizzes, which had questions which were explained in the notes, and an online final that was very forgiving. If you go to lectures and pay attention, you will get an A.
Brelinski is extremely clear about what he expects us to know for tests and quizzes. Everything is done online and is open book so it's basically an easy A. The things you learn at his lectures are somewhat useful but are mostly just entertaining. He's very enthusiastic about what he teaches.
Silly guy, great professor and very understanding. What was on the quiz was clear and he made an effort to connect with people even though it was a big class.
There's points for attending lecture using iclicker, but he grades on participation not on correctness. The tests are all online and they're all multiple choice. Super easy class!
When the term "free" was coined, this class was created because my goodness it was easy. Cool class, good professor and the A on my transcript looks pretty nice
The professor was great and the lectures were really engaging and interesting. However, the grading is such a pain. There are 3 papers, one being a rewrite, and the TA's grade far too harshly. There was also so much reading, a weekly response paper, and a quiz every two weeks. Absolutely do not take it for an easy GE or a GPA boost.
Brelinski was an amazing professor, very passionate about what he teaches, and great storytelling. Quizzes every two weeks, a response paper almost every week, 3 papers (one a rewrite), and lots of memorization.
I kinda wish I hadn't taken this class in general because it's more content heavy then I imagined. The final isn't online this quarter which makes memorizing all the information we learned harder. Brelinksi is a caring professor and he is very passionate about what he does. Weekly timed quizzes worth 65% of the grade and weekly worksheets.
If you want an easy A, do NOT take this GE. People are only saying this is easy because their finals were online, making it easier to use Quizlet. Our final was in person & the weekly quizzes were nothing like the final, the mean was literally a D this quarter. A ton of memorization that needs to be studied all day every day if you want to pass.
This class was a breeze when I took it fall quarter earlier this year. The weekly quizzes and the final were online and open note but timed. However, I heard that the class had in-person, closed-note quizzes, and a final, during some quarters, which made the class significantly harder due to the sheer amount of memorization that is required.
He's a very caring and hilarious professor, it's not hard to tell he has a huge enthusiasm for Greek culture and etymology. But be ready to memorize hundreds of morphemes in this class since he changed the test format to in-person and the final was closed-book. Not a class you're looking for if you just want to take an easy GE class.
Professor Brelinski is so funny. He is very passionate about what he teaches, and answers your questions during lecture time. There are weekly quizzes that are a big portion of your grade, but they are all online. There is no midterm, just one final at the end of the course.
Super interesting class and although it was memorization heavy, the homework and exams were not difficult.
Easy A, take think class. Straightforward final with little need to remember, take this if you want to boost your GPA
THIS IS NOT AN EASY GE CLASS. YOU WILL HAVE TO MEMORISE OVER 700 FLASHCARDS. Previous ratings that mention easy finals had their finals online (open book). It is no longer any of those things. Asked stuff in the final that wasn't given in the final prospectus. I hate to rate him low because he is a nice professor. Terrible class grade-wise to take
If you're good at memorization and language/vocabulary, this class will be easy and fun. It seems like many people think you don't need to do any studying for this class, but then they get blindsided by the final. If you spend 2-3 hours a week making and studying quizlets, the final will be a breeze. He is very clear with what will be on the tests.
Good but not easy
Class is memorization heavy but overall relatively easy. Lectures are interesting and he is an entertaining person. I learned a lot of cool things in this class, just be prepared for a lot of memorizing.
He was a very engaging professor. His study guides for the quizzes were really helpful but there is a LOT of memorization needed. There was no midterm, just the final which also had a really nice study guide. I loved some of the niche lectures and we covered a lot of different fields like bio, psych, mythology and more.
Amazing professor! u can tell he's genuinely passionate about the subject and so funny. Just take notes in class and review once a week & you'll be fine. Even with the final not being open book it's still an amazing eazy GE, I studied 2 days before final with flashcards and got A. Weekly open book quizzes are 65% of grade so provide a nice cushion.
He is enthusiastic about the content. The class was easy but beware that the final is NOT open note. There's a ridiculous number of things he wants you to memorize, but I managed an A with 0 notes, bad lecture attendance (he dropped some), and just "studying" for the final by compiling the answers to the prospectus and reading over it a few times.
I rlly enjoyed his class! He's entertaining and interacts with the class. There are a lot of terms so start to memorize early on. No midterms since he does a 65% graded quiz each week, but they're open note and can be taken anywhere w/ wifi. Make sure to study for his 100 question final though, which isn't too hard if you study. Take it! :)
Very interesting lectures, and he's very engaging. Quizzes throughout the quarter are not bad and online. The final is closed notes and needs a lot of memorization, but if you've been attending lectures and paying attention it's not too hard to get an A. His study guide for the final is also very thorough and helpful.
I enjoyed this class very much and Brelinski was very funny and engaging in teaching during his lectures. This course is very memorization-heavy although there is very little homework and the quizzes/exam was not bad at all. If you like etymology and etiology, you'll have a laugh in this class.
I am giving a review on the "Ancient wine&food" class (class# is not on RMP). The TA Delilah is a nightmare. She grades extremely harshly. The rubric is unclear. Lots of reading, papers, and videos. The TA does not even know about the stories. The quiz questions are confusing and incorrect. Many students dropped the course after the first week.
Grading depends on how your TA is (Delilah for me), but as long as you followed the assignment correctly you will get a 100 on that assignment. Thus, grading was easy. LOTS of homework for a 4 unit class but it was mostly busy work and the content was super interesting. Easy A, imo.
Professor Brelinski makes the memorization-heavy content engaging and entertaining. With the help of weekly quizzes, a thorough final study guide, and tools like unstuckstudy AI, acing this class is quite manageable.
RUN, under his extremely bad instruction, it should be a 4-unit class instead of 3
I've never had a professor impart more of a passion for his subject that he did. Very memorization heavy. I dislike the online quizzes opening 3pm Friday and closing noon on Saturday while also being 65% of the grade. Wonderful professor, wonderful class. I would love to have him for some more advanced subjects.
Just remember to do the homework.
Prof is clearly passionate about the subject; lectures are very engaging. Weekly quizzes were all online+open note except for 1, but the 2 lowest scores are dropped so it shouldn't be a problem. He posts detailed final and quiz prospectuses, which are very helpful. Final was very straightforward but it is memorization based!
Good professor and overall easy class. Weekly quizzes on Canvas and homework that has unlimited tries. Beware that the final is in person now and has like 100 questions on it, actually crazy. I studied like 700 quizlet slides for the final and ended up getting a B on it, dragging down my grade to an A-. Yeah, so defintely not an "easy" GE.
Expected to memorize A LOT for this course. Not as easy as people claimed if you are bad at memorizing or bad at English. No midterm, homework per week online but easy and short. Quiz per week online, and one would be in-person. Final is same format as quizzes, all MCQ. The pf is humorous and passionate about classics, truly recommended.
Very enthusiastic during his lectures, easy weekly online quizzes, final is multiple choice and requires A LOT of memorization. However, very doable to get an A in his class just don't expect it to come easy.
I loved this class! The content was interesting, and Professor Brelinski was engaging and passionate. Weekly open-note quizzes and quick homework made it manageable. There was no midterm, just a 100-question final. If you attend lecture and do well on quizzes, you can easily get an A. Highly recommend this GE, especially with Professor Brelinski!
Kept things interesting, very passionate and fun to learn from. Most quizzes were online and open note, with a few exceptions (including the final). Very memorization heavy - you're gonna want to stay caught up throughout the quarter so you don't end up with a 600 term flashcard set to memorize 3 days before the final like I did.
Super interesting lectures, and he was incredibly nice. Class is not an easy A but it is not hard as long as you stay on top of the vocab for the final, plus he drops the two lowest quizzes. Gives top hat questions for attendance but you can miss a few days and be fine, plus he tries to let everyone out early on Fridays. Def recommend!
Prof. Brelinski clearly has a love for Word Roots and it presents through his lectures. Granted they can a little boring and sometimes he can just read off the slides. He's a silly guy. There's a workbook that isn't mandatory, but helps a lot. There are no midterms but weekly quizzes that count for a lot. Most are online. The final is not online.
Took because I wanted an easy-A GE, was way harder than I wanted. Weekly quizzes sucked and were unnecessarily hard imo, but they were online. If your willing to put some time into memorization (of like 100 morphemes) then take it, Brelinski is a nice, reasonable guy and pretty funny.
He's very passionate in what he speaks about. Attendance in discussion is mandatory and there are participation points in discussion as-well so make sure to participate. Made the final exam optional but the final paper is mandatory. He's a great professor!
He was a very nice professor with really clear lectures. The class does require a lot of reading but he does go over the readings in lecture so its ok to miss a little.
Brelinski is funny and has organized lectures. There are weekly online quizzes which are not too hard. As long as you connect morphemes to words you know, you do not have to do much memorization. Overall, an easy GE with a great professor.
Very easy to do the online quizzes and homework. Can drop some quizzes and homework. If you cram and memorize prior to the final, you can receive an A. Would take a gain very easy and chill guy
Chill GE, material was not super interesting and could be confusing at times, but lectures were interesting. Grade based on mandatory Top Hat questions each class based on the lecture, weekly Canvas quizzes (we had one in person) and homework assignments, MCQ final. Quizlet is very helpful!! Would recommend
Useful class taught by great professor. Graded tophat participation starting week 4. No hw, but weekly quizzes. He recommended doing the txbk problems (hard copy from bookstore), I survived w/o it but prob would've been helpful. Def take with friends, making quizlets and testing each other will help
He's a nice professor and good lecturer and most of the assignments aren't bad. However the course policies are unnecessarily strict and make it very difficult if you fall behind. -20% for each day an assignment is late and you can only do work in the order posted, so you can't do current assignments before the late work. Also mandatory cooking.
