AWESOME teacher. I know everyone says "oh he/she is the best teacher at Camosun" but really, Tim IS!!!! He has a great sense of humour and an excellent teaching style. He marks very fair and does a great job expressing strengths and weaknesses to work on for the future! You can not go wrong with this guy!

Tim is so awesome....yes i said he was hot for fun lol....honestly though you cannot go wrong with this guy ive had him for 830 in the morning and ive never had a teacher that can get me so involved that early! his humour makes him so approachable and his marking style is so beneficial....if you pay attention your mark will for sure go up! rock on

For a mandetory course we ALL have to take, Tim made coming to class, enjoyable, hard to consider that for an english class, if only all english teachers could show the spirit this guy shows about english. Plus he's a very flexible guy and abel to work with you to get somethign done, overall my favorite prof so far from the courses I've taken.

It is rare to find a teacher that has the combination of passion for their feild along with with EXCELLENT communication. Tim is so alive, and learns with you, drawing you in. Tim introduced me to literature in a way that will effect me forever. Felt like I was actually learning how to write. He never gives A+'s, but I give him one. ABSOLUTLEY!!

Super entertaining, but really easy to understand. Stays on schedule, extreamely open and easy to talk to, very helpful. I dislike English but i still loved this class.

Tim has the most energy that I have ever seen in a person. His class was the best, I really enjoyed going to his class and he was so helpful. Tim was also hilarious, it was like a comedy act every class, yet you were learning at the same time. If you can get him for any english class then do. He makes a boring english class fun and learning is easy

If you are passionate about what you are doing, then you should be doing it. TIM IS DOING IT! He knows what he is talking about, he makes you want to listen, he is entertaining...if you get his class consider yourself lucky.

I Firmly believe that you could not find a better teacher in this field. English comp is a glorified grammer course, but Tim makes it bearable if not interesting. I found him to be a hard marker, but this is a strength for students, the caliber of writing you will achieve from his instruction is invaluable.

He dances, he sings, he tells horrible puns that you can't help but laugh at. He has endless energy and makes the fundamentals of English enjoyable. You can bring a thesaurus in for his tests, but he warns you that the problem with thesauruses are that they might not fit through the door.

Amazing! Hard marker. He's got the typical english teacher personality - eccentric, and flamboyant. I actually LEARNED how to write. Prior to his class, i knew nothing about writing an essay. I constantly improved on each essay written. 1st a B- then B+. most likely my final essay an A or A+. Didn't get to attend every class. Wish i could've.

If you hate English take this class - it is amazing! Tim has so much energy and excitement towards the stories and essays the class talks about that you can't help but take part in the frenzy of his manic state! Very easy-going guy, relaxed marker(very fair and lots of comments) very approachable for help, overall a really great guy!!

By far the best English instructor I have ever had. Tim is incredibly passionate, helpful, and funny. He spends a lot of time marking essays and provides tons of feedback. Tim also does deep readings of the material instead of skimming or surface reading. You really walk away with a solid understanding of the material.

One of the best professors I've had. Tim made the material understandable and enjoyable, and he is passionate about literature (which makes all of the difference in the world). He's funny, engaging, and helpful. And no, his marking is not too hard. Tim just really wants everyone to do the best they can, and if possible, to improve.

I took both English 150 & 160 with him. He is easily one of the best prof's at Camosun. Very fun,energetic and has lots of jokes and stories to tell. You can tell that he loves his job and he enjoys what he does. Very helpful. Make sure you get assignments in on time though. Tough marker on essays but I highly recommend him!

Brilliant prof. Knows his material. Exams can be a little finnicky, so pay close attention to details (esp. poetry). Fantastic course material and enthusiasm. Not the easiest course but well worthwhile if you love literature!!!

I was nervous about taking English for the first time in 10 years, but Tim was great and I looked forward to his class. He's obviously very passioniate about the subject and his lectures are engaging and hilarious. Come to class and make an effort and you will do well. If you have the chance to take his class, do it! This man is more passionate toward literature than I've ever seen anyone be about anything. After our first class I went out and rented The Iliad, The Odyssey, Anna Karenina and Ulysses. Obviously I regretted this decision, since I'm a full time student and those are big books. But you get the point. Harsh marker, and I cannot his writing at all.

Callin's lectures are very straight forward and he is definitely an engaging teacher with a great sense of humour. However, because of his assignments and the one on one interactions I had with him, I do not recommend others to take his class. I am very disappointed. Extremely rigid and stifles creativity.

Dr. Callin is probably my favorite teacher at Camosun. He is so passionate about literature and makes every class interesting. He rambles, sure, but he can always bring it back to the topic at hand. He is available to discuss essays and offers as much help as possible if you go to him for it. I would definitely take another class of his.

I looked forward to every class :) Experiencing Dr. Callin teaching is like watching a brilliant theatre show. Course readings are cheap. Enables you to look at literature with new eyes, especially through engaging the class. Follow his essay format, know your themes and characters, attend class + you will be set. Gives test questions in advance.

Tim is really enthusiastic and passionate. He makes fairly dull content much more interested. He does a tendency to rant and ramble a lot though which sometimes can be funny, but other times really confusing. I found him willing to help whenever needed. He's a really tough maker though!

He's a good guy and I liked talking to him about literature. Sometimes his teaching style would kind of annoy me, like "fill in the blanks" style lectures. However, you just need to go to class and listen and write things down and the exams are not that hard. You just need to show up. Nice that he is so passionate.

Tim Callin is an excellent professor; Actually, he is more like a teacher. He challenges students and shows you exactly where you are at. My first paper had more of his writing on it than mine when he was done marking it (slight hyperbole), because he was marking honestly and that is what a first year college student needs to succeed.

Tim Callin is my hero. There is no one else with whom I would want to complete my English requirement. He's understanding when mistakes happen (like when I completely forgot to write an essay,) & if you show up to class & contribute to the conversation, it will pay off. I wish I could give him a giant hug for brightening up a tough term.

If you even so much as speak English, please please please take this class. Dr. Callin is absolutely incredible. His lectures are beautiful and moving and you get lost in texts you thought you didn't care about 5 minutes earlier. He brings literature to life in a way that you will carry with you for the rest of your life. Callin is phenomenal!

Really good teacher. Defiantly funny when giving lectures. Gets into his lectures so much that i feel like he is talking about something that he is so passionate about, but can't find the words to describe how awesome it is. Overall, great class experience.

Callin is an amazing lecturer. He really gets into the material, and drags you right along with him. He listens and values EVERY student's opinion. Will take time outside of class to help with any and every question you have. Always helpful and considerate. He is a tough marker, but not overly so. Wants you to improve, without being condescending.

Tim is my favorite teacher to date. He is passionate, kind, and you actually look forward to his lectures, which fly by! Would recommend this class to people majoring in English or as an elective to anyone that actually goes to class and enjoys reading very interesting short stories. Marking is fair, if you want an A go to class, and participate.

Nice human, funny jokes and good course flow. TOUGH GRADER! Grades 100 level as though you're in 300 level English. His expectations seem unrealistic of a mandatory English class (with non-native speakers in the room). I spent 15+ hours on my essays and barely surpassed 80% and I'm a good writer. Maybe try for an easier prof if GPA matters to you..

Tim is one of those professors that every English major needs to go through, preferably as a freshman. He is a tough grader, but he drills the technicality of essay writing into you. I'm more than thankful that I got to take a class with him because his methods taught me very valuable skills for future writing. Caution: really hard to score A's.

Dr. Callin is a great teacher! let me tell you, if you have never been interested in english TAKE HIS CLASS. He makes coming to class easy and stress free. Great guy, easy to work with, all his lectures are enjoyable, he has loads of experience with great tips and fun stories, very expressive in the way he talks, made me laugh so hard one day that there were tears in my eyes.

Tim is a guy who obviously loves what he's doing. Super inspirational and is very approachable and helpful. Sill, he's a tough grader and it's hard to improve in his class. Ask lots of questions and get him to look things over to make sure you're doing exactly what he wants out of an assignment.

Tim is a professor who understands that not every student is the same. That was my first english class since 2009 , in Quebec ( I am french), and the only reason I got A- in this class is because of Tim. Assignments are thoroughly explained and he does not fear warping the course schedule to focus on what the class needs. Amazing teacher.

Tim was a really solid choice for an English prof, he was caring and really passionate about the content he was teaching. Would have loved a bit more participation opportunities in small groups so you could really talk with your peers about the concepts. Overall a great teacher and an interesting course to take!

my boi. honestly was worried about this cuz I struggle with writing but Callin is so good recognizing effort and made me motivated to try through his lectures and feedback. I just wish I could have more classes with him. The only thing was his office hours were confusing.

The first day of class I thought "oh no what did I just sign up for?" but after the second class, I was so happy that I took the course. Dr. Callin is very passionate about the reading and lyrics which is what made the biggest impact on the course for me. He also is really good at encouraging people to share their ideas on the readings.

Callin is the english teacher I always hoped to have. He is hilarious, energetic, and so wildly interested in his subject matter. He is very tangential in his lectures and tends to think sporadically but if you can follow along it's like listening to a crazed genius. I had the pleasure of taking his class about the devil/crossroads. Life changing.

STUNNING HUMAN BEING! Dr. Callin is the professor of my dreams. He is on fire in class; so quirky and fascinating. His English lectures are so *&%^$*% brilliant and passionate. If people are complaining it's probably because they weren't willing to be as full on and engaged as he was, and therefore got left behind. Dr. Callin is next level.

Prof Callin is one of the most hilarious people out there, so eccentric and funny. I had my lectures with him at 8:30 in the morning and his jokes and humour were stronger than any espresso I've ever had! Word hard on the assignments and laugh your way through his classes!

Dr. Callin is hilarious! His lectures never fail to put a smile on your face. He doesn't use d2l, so going to class is important. However, if you're ever sick and need to miss a day or two, he is very accommodating! You will never write a test in his class, not even a final. The longest assignment is 1000 words. Most are 250 words max.

Dr. Callen is an amazing professor. He is very approachable and gives the funniest lectures. He is a very nice man who takes time to make sure everyone gets their assignments handed in. He goes through a process with each project which makes it near impossible to not hand it in. Dr. Callen is a great person and teacher and I would recommend him.

Hilarious. By far my favorite class last semester. He is inspirational in his lectures. Knows how to keep the lectures interesting while making sure to address the material. He is a tough grader as mentioned by several others, but gives more than enough helpful feedback on all assignments.

The best professor I've ever had - hands down.

The grading criteria is clear, although taking a writing course online is pretty dull. Hes a tough grader and pretty strict, but its justified as he outlines everything and gives you all the tools you need. I never had to email him to get clarification. The only reason I wasnt super into his class is only because the content was so boring.

(ONLINE) This class was humbling. If you think that you are a great writer and a bit stubborn with feedback, you will hate this class but learn to appreciate it. Academic writing online is as dry as it gets and unfortunately that won't change here. However, its a great opportunity to be given some in depth (often harsh) criticism to improve!

I was discouraged at the beginning of the semester as he marks very tough however, the time he puts in to correct your paper shows he really wants you to learn! If you were wanting to breeze through 1st year english maybe choose a different prof, but if you want all the reasons why your writing wasnt up to par take his class! He responds fast too.

Dr. Callin is fantastic. Clear, challenging assignments. Great lectures (online and asynchronous so not ideal but as great as they can be). He gives the best and most detailed feedback I have ever seen in a first year level class. I am not majoring in English but I'm hoping to take another class with him soon because he's excellent.

best prof i have had so far at camosun. be prepared to learn lots in a hilarious environment. callin genuinely cares about his students and its shown through the semester. he is a hard marker, but gives amazing feedback and wants his students to succeed. the longest assignment was 1000 words and was easy. best teacher ever!

Callin is super funny! I always enjoy his lectures. Hard grader but gives amazing feedback and super clear instruction. Word counts for assignments have all been super short, which I find is helpful and lets you focus on the structure of the writing, which I think is the point. Very much not a computer guy though. Everything is offline/ on paper.

Really great professor, nice guy who is enthusiastic about the material and does a good job teaching it. Attendance is important because he does everything hard copy. Most of the assignments are drafted on paper, but they're pretty short and easy to understand because he explains the structure really well.

He's really great at teaching, such a smart, sweet guy. His handouts in class are a necessity and I will use them in the future. Be sure to follow instructions precisely and proofread. I believe his class helped me improve my grades for my other classes, so thank you for giving us your knowledge!

Professor Callin is an excellent English teacher that knows how to engage his students. He's definitely a tough marker, but he gives great feedback which should allow for consistent improvements in writing throughout the course.

I liked the way Prof. Callin designed the course - the progression of his assignments is logical and instructions are clear. However, he's a tough grader and assignments are worth 20 marks or lower so mistakes reduce your grade quickly. No D2L presence so be prepared to attend every lecture or it'll be tough to catch up.

Great prof. Be there or suffer since most stuff is done as lectures. Very funny and knows his material well. Textbook is recommended reading but not mandatory. Lots of writing but for big projects gives plenty of time. Very calm and relaxed voice. 18 years at Camosun. Some (1, so far) material provided is effectively ENGL holy text.

Amazing start to college last year. Really was not happy about taking first year English but he made it so fun. Funny interesting guy. The assignments were not difficult and I actually learned stuff.

Dr. Callin is very kind. His online class was very straight forward. There was a lot of lecture material and guidelines given. Follow the formatting instructions! If you go in person to ask a question he is very helpful. Great class though.

Amazing Professor with engaging, funny, interactive lectures. Friendly to those who are shy, but want to give input. I am not typically a student who enjoys English, however I have thoroughly enjoyed Tim's class.

He IS a tough grader but realistically, those of us taking an entry level college writing course are not producing world-class writing and could always make improvements. Hilarious, very approachable and friendly, keen to help and offer advice if you take the opportunity to ask him. I'm a better writer after taking this course.
