Explains subject thoroughly and makes it fun. Great teacher!
Alot of homework, Teaches fast, moves quikly. Doesnt clear things up well.
Great teacher, funny, clever. I liked BTSOTC, and it's still an inside joke with a bunch of us.
great teacher! you should have him, he is never lacking to help
Can I just say that I LOVE Professor Curran? He is good at explaining difficult concepts, not to mention HILARIOUS. Be sure to ask him about his energizer bunny superbowl commercial strategy.
All I can say was I was very sad that he wasn't teaching the next class. I loved him, such a great teacher. Very clear on what he expects and keeps to it. Take him what ever your math level. I still go to him for advice semesters later.
Teaches to the top of the class. Doesn't do enough example problems and grades too harshly on homework.
The best math teacher I ever had!
Very clear, great teacher!
Ok teacher...Calvin Greene is much better. Nice guy but not fabulous as a teacher.
Very clear teacher, explains every thing well, he also makes sure that you will get to the next level of math knowing what you NEED to know. He is always there to ask a question to or get some help, by phone email or office hours., and tons of extra credit to help you out.
Hard to understand
He's very funny. Really LOVES math, often refering to it as mother nature. Easy assignments, makes it very clear.
Difficult. Plain and simple. Grades homework like quizzes, has way to many theory questions on exams, and quizzes every day. He's not exactly a bad prof, just gives****ty grades. Good luck!
The first half of the course was OK, but the second half was just calculator work. We stopped being taught acutal math and just learned what buttons to push and when to do it. Overall, he made things sound much harder than they actually were and refused to teach the "why"'s of math, just making students memorize steps and regurgitate them later.
Super easy class, great teacher. I will try to get him for my next math class.
If you want to learn the subject matter - choose this professor. He is helpful, patient and very funny! When you answer out loud and your answer is wrong - he takes great care not to humiliate you. His love of math is contagious!
The prof is the best. His love of math is obvious and he does everything in his power to help you succeed. He's a little hard, but only for those who aren't willing to do the work and wanted a class that they could sail through. Highly recommend!
Great instructor. knows the material and is willing to help if you seek it. He will explain things if you don't get it. He has funny little ways of helping you remember important parts of math. Remember the 3 "D's"
awesome very good, best teacher
In the very beginning of this class, he was alright. If I have anything to say about this man it is that he is very tricky! He expects us to do the homework from the book, yet his tests do not follow what the book teaches. All I have to say is stay with him in easy math, in hard math go another route! I am very disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!
This was the worst class I have ever taken! Not only was it extremely hard, Mr. Curran would never allow questions during lecture and was less then helpful when class was over. All the HW is from the book, but the tests are not! He only gives an hour for tests even the midterm which was worth 200 pts. In my class 20 people were forced to drop!
I learned so much more in this class than from any other math teacher. He explains things very clearly. Your grade is totally dependant on how much you care about passing the class. He definetly works with you on it and tries to make sure everyone understands...yet he doesn't want anyone in the class who isn't prepared for it.
He is a great teacher! I would take more of his classes if he taught at the main folsom campus.
Curran has a very appealing and attractive character who brings a sense of charm and wit to the class room. it makes the class exciting and interested in what he has to say. he has a great sense of humor and will always have a joke about everything. That aside, he brings great charisma to the class, he is definatly one of a kind!!!!!
Prof. Curran is one of the two best math teachers I have ever had. I am horrible at math and was dreading having to take a stats class but he made it fun and comprehensible. I won't say that the stats class was easy, but it wasn't unfairly hard either. Like most classes, if you put in the work you will do fine. Highly recommended!
Curran is overall a pretty good teacher. But, attendance and participation are very important as he keeps track. And a missed class loses you points. But he is very good and explaining things and offers extra help when needed. Oh and he is pretty funny; like old man stupid jokes, but still funny.
Curran is an awesome teacher. He was very clear and had fun ways of breaking a hard subject down so that everyone could understand. He was funny; a lot of his jokes were cheesy, but that's why its so funny. I wouldn't hesitate to take another math class with him.
Great teacher! I would totally suggest you take him! The subject sucks, but he has great stories to help make it fun!
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST MATH TEACHERS EVER! I TOOK HIS NIGHT CLASS AND HE MADE IT VERY EXCITING BY JUMPING IN THE AIR AND CLICKING HIS HEELS TO KEEP US AWAKE! HE GAVE US PACKETS TO HELP WITH THE TESTS AND WAS VERY HELPFUL! VERY EASY AND ENTERTAINING!
The best prof. is not always the easiest. I would highly recommend anyone going into calculus ect. take him. Even the best in math will find it hard to get an A in his class but since it is non-transferable to UC its no big deal JUST STUDY HARD. The advantage is of course that he preps you very nicely for the next few courses. Great Teacher!
So clear and straight-forward with those that can pay attention to a lecture. very helpful with any confusion. love him! also had him for intermediate algebra and made sure to get him for stats, will be sure to get him for trig!
Curran is by far one of the most talented and enthusiastic teachers I have ever had! The packet of worksheets make it easy to study for exams and stay engaged in the class. Tests are difficult, but grades are tallied from a variety of sources including homework and a final project, so an A is possible if you work hard and go to all the classes.
No... back away from the sign up button. Avoid taking him. He is an extremely nice person, but not the best of teachers. Almost no one in my class enjoyed it and they didn't do good either. His handouts help, but he tries to do too much that everything just becomes jumbled. His final was not cumulative, but difficult. Not recommended!!!
Between the deep voice, the super intelligence, fantastic smile, alpha-male confidence and quirky sense of humor...Tim is one of the sexiest teachers I've ever had. He is also extremely gifted! Go to class, do the homework and you'll be fine. It's not an easy subject, but Tim makes it a pleasure!
Explanes well, but grades way too harsh.
An AMAZING teacher. I would suggest him for anyone who actually wants to learn. I have never had a teacher in my life who knew how to teach like he does. He knows his stuff. He feels his job is to prepare you for the next level, and he takes it seriously but has fun doing it.
Tim was a great teacher. If you payed attention in class you would leave class having understood EVERYTHING. This class requires work but it is very possible to get the grade that you want. And always do the homeworks!!! They will prepare you for the tests so you dont have to cram everything in the day before.
You can't find a better teacher than this for Stat at FLC. Very organized, very thorough, very helpful, and very clear. This isn't an easy course, but if you follow his instructions, you will walk out with a high grade, and knowing elementary statistics.
In my opinion, you are lucky if you can find a teacher anywhere who isn?t arrogant and full of their own opinions, and Mr. Curran is no exception. However, this is a good teacher in the respect that he does his job well, and I would recommend taking his Stat class to anyone.
Great teacher and great guy. Extremely bright. Very willing to help if you ask for it. Pay attention in class and do your homework and you'll do fine.
Curran was a demanding teacher. I hate math but I came to class, did the homework, studied hard for the tests and got a B. He had the ability to make a subject I had no interest in interesting. His tests are hard but I learned a lot! He has a very sexy voice even when talking about Stats.
Good teacher. You need to pay attention in class and I would suggest doing the homework even though you'll get full credit for it even if you don't. And, wow is he organized.
Took for stats. Pretty easy teacher, says um alot which was only annoyance. Would take him again and definitely recommend taking him over other teachers. Made class easier and more fun.
Math 100: Mr. Curran is awesome. He has a great style of teaching and is willing to help any student at any time. He is very long-whinded when talking about his schedule or other things; but it's worth it because he is great at teaching math. I will definitely take him again for a higher math class
He was a really good teacher. I learned a lot. A lot of the concepts were pretty hard, and after while I got really confused, but he made a strong effort to help. His jokes are often corny, and he's kinda awkward, but it's funny. I will never forget his "SOH-CAH-TOA Ninja-Training" and the irony of him hitting a deer on the third day...
Awesome teacher! Curran's teaching style and attitude is efficient and entertaining. He keeps the class tasteful enough to get through (the class I took over summer was 4 hours and 15 minutes twice per week). Do the homework and keep with it. You will learn a lot! If you slack, your grade will reflect it. If you try hard, you'll do good (B or A).
I hated math before taking Currans classes. Still don't love it, but it's very understandable. He likes to put in some cheesy jokes to make class interesting. He gives points for participation and attendance. Will always help you if you need it. Reallllly loves math!!!
I suck at all math. I always get a B in my math classes but he was such a good teacher that I got an A! I don't think I could have understood statistics without him. Yes, he's cheesy but it's worth it
I had Tim for 3 math classes (algebra, intermediate algebra, and stats). I am terrible at math!!! But I received a B in the first two and a C in statistics. I would have received a better grade if I asked for help more. He is always willing to stay late or meet in his office to explain things and offer support. Also, he's cheesily hilarious!
Love the professor but Stats was pretty tough for me. He taught it great, but it just wouldn't click always. He gives you soo many points so that even if you get Ds on all his tests, you can still pass cause HW is always given to you. Always go to class though and make sure to raise your hand for participation points!
It was a fun class and his personality adds to the fun. Cheesy or not, if it breaks the ice and makes a student laugh to better understand the material then I'm all for it. Will help in any way he can, very encouraging, professional and very organized. Bottom line, he's GREAT! Want to learn Statistics? Sign up. "Efforts pay dividends!"
Curran was an amazing teacher! No one loves their job as much as he does =] He's very helpful, organized, understanding, clear, and definitely handsome!
Curran is a great teacher! He tries his best to make class fun, while also being very helpful and providing plenty of opportunities for XC. He wants you to pass and it shows.
Brilliant teacher. Nice Person. Indeterminate.
He's okay--very funny, but not great teacher. His exams are formatted different from the book, so studying is very difficult. I am typically an A student, but found the tests rather in"tim"idating. Wish I could take the class a second time to see if I could understand more. Overall just decent
Very good teacher, keeps class interesting and makes it very easy to get an A. Easy participation points, homework and classwork, plus very easy extra credit. Take this class.
Asked him a question about his lesson. He told me I should have read it in the textbook and sent me to read it again. Then walked out on me.
He is an amazing teacher!!!! I absolutely loved his class!! He is very helpful! He also makes it really fun. He has a funny sarcastic side which keeps the class fun. I highly reccommend him! Very helpful and very easy. I would take his class over again just because hes that great of a teacher.
Curran is one of the best math professors I have ever had. I took stats in high school and didn't understand any of the concepts - with him, I am excelling and understanding everything. His grading is straightforward, and he is a really funny guy. My class is two hours long, but it goes by the fastest out of all of my classes. Definitely recommend!
I took the Math 100 Hybrid course and absolutely hated it. You teach yourself the entire thing and altough class attendance is strict ad mndatory, he does not "teach". He only "reviews". If you are a strong math student then you might okay, but if math just isn't your thing.. do not take this hybrid course! He is good about communication though.
Curran is a really nice guy and a good teacher. His exams are REALLY hard, but he structures the class so that you get daily points for attendance and homework. I never missed, did all of my homework and just managed to make a B (but I am NOT a math person.) He scares you the first day...hang in there...he is not that scary.
Great math teacher! His exams are very straight forward and he tells you what to study. I would recommend him to anyone. In fact, im taking a calculus course from him again because I like his style so much. Cool guy, very humble.
Loved this class, I decided to minor in stats because of Curran. Extremely funny and approachable guy, made class fun. Make an effort to go to class every week and pay attention, you'll do just fine. Exam questions come straight for examples done in class.
Class sessions are often very slow and tedious. He doles out information piecemeal which gets annoying if you can get things quickly. Besides that he's a nice guy and fair. Exams are challenging compared to the time in class so make sure to study the homework.
Curran was a great professor. His exams were fairly difficult, but I am also not very good at math, so. He was a humble guy, very down to earth. He has all sorts of acronyms and techniques for remembering different things. I plan on taking him again for calculus!
I struggled in this class. For me, the pace was very fast and there was never any review of the previous session's material. I studied a great deal and I am barely passing, but I'm not an advanced Math person. Credit is given for homework, participation, attendance which helps balance out test scores. Prof was fun, interesting, and fair. Nice Guy!
Participate as often as possible for credit. His voice can drone on a bit, but as long as you finish online homework, he's fine. If you can somehow get an A without going to class, he's fine with that.
Curran is a great professor. I just finished Calc 1 with him, and he made this subject seem very fun and interesting.
Amazing teacher. Took a really boring subject (Stats) and made it not only interesting but easy to understand. Helpful, encourages participation, works with you. Lectures are funny and he acts excited about what he's teaching. Only bad thing is I didn't feel really prepared for the final, but still learned a lot. P.S., he has an awesome voice
Best teacher I've had at FLC! (I'm in my 2nd year) Has you grade your own HW (no negative points unless you don't even try). He's more than willing to help with hard problems. Answers emails promptly - so helpful! He also wrote the workbook so classwork, HW, and tests are written similarly. As long as you go to class, you're in good shape!
Curran is a bit intimidating at first, but after about 2 weeks, it gets easier to understand and remember his expectations and requirements. There is a TON of homework and he likes it turned in and graded in a very specific way and the tests are pretty tough, but he does offer help if you ask for it and explains the material very well.
I had a mixed experience in Curran's class. He has a solid understanding of statistics, but he does not teach from a textbook. He uses a workbook that he wrote. Not helpful if you've had textbook instruction in all your previous math classes. I barely passed this class, and I was lucky I got through it.
Oh man. Hardest math class I ever took. I would not take again.
He's a great teacher for equally "math minded people" if you struggle with little instruction I suggest taking another class. He's fast paced, and expects to you need little review begging his class. For those of you who who need time to write out each step of every problem and can't don it in your head, his test are long.
Curran is good if you can understand math very well, and he doesn't like answering complex questions during his lecture. Can be rude and curt with students, and assigns tons of homework. Participation is huge yet he has to call on you to get a point, so your participation grade lies on him. Tests are long, tough, and detailed. Wouldn't take again.
Great overall teacher. If you like and easily understand math, pick his classes. The way he does class participation is different, though not bad. He's also easy to get along with but is a no bs kind of guy. Would not recommend if you're a returning student who hasn't done much math in the past few years. Doesn't explain much in class.
Horrible professor. His teaching style for higher math classes is terrible. He just goes through the exercises in the book and does not bother to explain all the theorems. His exams are too long for the allotted time, the whole class was not finished at the end of class. His participation rule is straight trash because he controls who is called on.
He doesn't teach. He just goes through the problems super fast and skips steps so it's hard to understand when you're learning for the first time. His grading system is too tough. Homework/participation is not weighted enough for that much work to be done. He does not give study guides or let you keep your tests. Studying is basically limited to HW
In the class right now. Real sweetheart. Funny guy, teaches the material ok, but book is essential. Forgiving on test grading, and everything in the tests is from the book. Grading policy is actually fairly lax; good test grades negate need for participation. Not an easy class, but for "math people" not an exceedingly difficult A. Take him for LA.
Curran is a goofy guy and a great professor. If you're good with math, this class will be a breeze. If you struggle with math, there is still a lot of opportunity for success. Keep up with the homework assignments, don't be afraid to ask questions, and pay attention during lecture for an A or a B.
Professor Curran is great. However, since the coursework is so intense, he doesn't allow bathroom breaks. I almost ruined a couple pairs of pants running to the bathroom after every class.
Curran is a very fun, awkward, and corny professor. But he is also very intelligent, helpful, and understanding. There IS a lot of homework but it really prepares you for the tests. Participation is a big deal in his classes, keep that hand raised! Overall I wouldn't choose anyone else for Stats and I grew to enjoy his class!
Great professor! Math might be a tough bland subject for most, but professor Tim Curren was able to make it more interesting. He is very reachable, always ready to do anything he can to help you out. He is willing to go above and beyond the call of duty. As long as you are willing to commit you will do fine. Also his lecture are quite entertaining!
He is a very intimidating guy when you first meet him, which made me almost drop the class within the first week. But i'm so glad I stuck with it. He's a great professor. Gives plenty of opportunities to get points. He also gives partial credit. Test questions are VERY similar to HW. Want to get a B or higher? DO the HW and you'll be fine.
Amazing professor! I would definitely recommend taking this professor if you are not much of a math person. Curran is very helpful (you need to ask for clarification) and makes the lessons understandable. Participation is HUGE, makes you fill out a log for pp. He has his own workbook you follow along in, takes getting use to but it's not too bad.
His own textbook sounds like a poem in specific details, he tries to be richness on writing, but it makes some students confused.
I enjoyed his class very much. I learned fast and enjoyed his teaching style of doing problems straight from the book as most of the lecture. He explains well and demands quality work, but is a caring and very good teacher. Participation is mandatory, but he tries to call on as many different people as he can.
Lot's of homework, but he has a very forgiving grading system. Tells lots of bad jokes(which kinda makes them funny) Don't miss class!
Professor Curran is a real diamond in the rough that we call community college. Often, it is so hard to find a solid professor that teaches math either because they are new at their craft or their English is hard to comprehend. You will learn the in's and out's of Stats in a very energetic and fun way. He is funny as well. Take this professor!
I was highly anxious taking Statistics and Mr. Curran was very intimidating the first week, but after some time & paying complete attention to every comment (and asking questions if I look away for a second), Mr. Curran is exceptional. Some gripe about him, but I think he's great if you follow along. I go to the free tutoring, which helps too.
I was very nervous to take Trigonometry but Mr. C dimished that feeling all at once. He is a funny and caring man. He will give you absolutely everything you need to pass his class and tests. If you fail, it would only be because you didn't try. He cares that you pass and it's obvious. Not to mention his bad jokes make taking a math class enjoyable
if you can stay awake for a two hour long "dry eyes" commercial, you can hang. as long as math isnt hard for you. when I would ask him to explain something to me, he tells me to go to the tutor lab. he doesnt "teach". he writes stuff on the board then gives participation points to whoever knows the answer. perks of having a tenyear.
I did well in Curran's class, but half of the people dropped half way through the semester. He has a unique teaching style that involves a workbook of his creation that contains class/homework with little explanation, so focusing and participating is crucial. Real nice guy though, you can tell he's passionate about what he teaches!
Curran is an amazing instructor! He has a passion for what he teaches and illustrates that in his lectures. He is a bit of a nerd, but if you can learn to enjoy his nerdy jokes and engage in the subject, you will do well. Work ahead and come to class prepared and an "A" is easily in reach. He taught me to love math again!
His class: You can't drink water or go to the bathroom without being penalized. If he so much as sees you with a cell phone, you will be penalized. Even if you get an A on a test, if you have not participated as much as much as those he calls on the most frequently (even if you've offered to answer just as often) you will not receive an A.
Professor Curran is pretty awesome. I am taking his Trigonometry course. The class is challenging and engaging. He will make you work for the credit, and is very helpful if you don't understand something. *side note to those who have watched Breaking Bad: Do not mistaken Mr. Curran for Mr. White! Take his class to find out what I mean:)
He is a fairly good teacher but really strict when it comes to using phones and marks down points if used
good teacher and explains well but he thrives on student participation and often calls on people like its high school
Prof Curran is a very good teacher. I took this class over summer and it was an easy A. Take advantage of the extra credit and participate! He makes his own textbook which I really liked. He prepares you well for the exams. He is pretty quirky which makes the lectures bearable.
Bad jokes, great professor. Teaches from his own textbook which is nice, class is very organized so there's no excuse for not knowing what you are supposed to do. If you do the homework and show up then the tests are easy. Wish he taught 370 or 400! Also he looks like Heisenberg, except he cooks up his own 99.1% pure math problems
Very thorough with his lessons, so it is very easy to understand new concepts
He does not post grades online so you dont get to keep track through out the semester . He records grades on a yellow piece of paper. I find it just a bit ironic with the fact that this is a hybrid class, so half of it is online, and yet he doesnt post grades online! Hes a decent instructor though, but i dont think Id recommend him
He is a great professor. He does a great job of giving you the skills that you'll need to pass, and is 100% looking to help you. He is a goofy guy who made the text book that is used in this class so he really knows what he is teaching, and how it all works. I will say that he is a hard grader, and one should never slack on the homework.
Even though it seems like he runs his class in an uptight manner, hes a very good professor. He is full of many, many dad jokes and will always be there to help you with any questions you have. Show up to class and do your homework and youll be on the right track.
Great professor. He is intelligent and funny which makes his lectures interesting and easy to follow. He genuinely cares about the success of his students.
Somehow, Mr. Curran makes me enjoy dragging myself to math 4 times a week! 'nuff said. Thank you Tim Curran for making a summer statistics course interesting, motivating, and - dare I say - fun. Potential students: stay caught up, participate often, and don't miss class. You'll do fine.
Professor Curran is what you would expect for a Math Professor. Medium amount of homework, text heavy, and very very heavy on participation. He gives out lots of extra credit, to random individuals. If you showup, participate, and do your homework you will get an A. Very dry class though and cut and paste. I recommend only if you just want to pass.
Great dude, you really learn a lot. Warning about the second unit: he does warn that you will take a dip in your grade. His textbook is easy to understand and I do admit to dozing in and out but you do get the content easily. Oh AND DONT PROCRASTINATE THE HOMEWORK THE DAY BEFORE THE TEST!!
Curran is a cool dude that I have for Stats and Calc. Hes thorough in his lectures and good at explaining concepts, but has a very low voice, so its a good idea to sit in the front row so you can hear him better. He likes to do unpredictable things and his math jokes are ........ pretty good. His passion for math is unmistakable.
Good professor. No quiz only tests which are really easy. have good practice in homework and most importantly, participation matters. you have to speak because it's worth 10% of your grade.
I took Prof. Curran for Math 100 and then again for Stat300 and he has been my favorite Professor since returning to school. I always struggled with math but his teaching style really makes you work for what you are learning, and that in turn helps you out so much on the tests. I never thought I would miss going to math class. He is a gem at FLC!
Overall one of my favorite math professors. He knows what hes doing he breaks it down clearly. They packet may be long but its thorough and so are his lecture. I highly recommended him if you wanna pass.
Professor Curran is by far my favorite teacher/professor I have taken in the last 10 years. It is obvious that he cares about his students' success as he is always willing to help you one on one after class. If you don't pass this class YOU really didn't try. He is also a pretty funny guy. Definitely have to read between the lines to pick up on it
Took both his Trig class and his Stat class, very satisfied with both. They aren't easy A's but getting an A is totally attainable if you keep up. Everything is graded on a yellow sheet and you should always know what your grade is. Curran is a very quick grader too which is nice. Only qualm is that lectures can be a bit slow at times, but not bad
He seems like a chill guy but he's a tough teacher. If your good at math and your geometry skills are A1 than you should be fine. But if you had difficulties in geometry I recommend taking another professor cuz he doesn't review. He skips over steps and his notes aren't great. Get ready to watch lots of youtube.
Best math teacher I've ever had in my years of schooling. Really don't understand how people fail his classes, literally lines everything out for you in his workbook that will be on the tests. If you miss one day you might as well drop because you won't understand the rest of the unit but besides that it was the best math course I've taken.
Prof Curran is a really good teacher and knows the material that he is teaching very well! He wrote his own textbook which is required to bring to class every day and where you will take notes. I really liked this because then it was easy to review all the notes before a test. I definitely recommend him!
Easily the worst math teacher Ive ever had. Went on to take calc 1 and 2 and got an A in both. Ended up with a C in this class. Uses his own self made notes he makes you buy that dont teach you anything. If you dont understand something in class then ur screwed cuz his notes are terrible. Helps you memorize everything but you dont learn.
SOOO MUCH HOMEWORK. 4-6 hours of it a week. He expects you to be solid on the pre-req material and doesn't hold your hand. You need to be good at math to get a good grade in this. Besides that, he looks a lot like Walter White so sometimes you get an uncanny feeling that you're a breaking bad extra.
He teaches good but he rushes through the lecture where you don't even get the chance to ask him because you always trying to catch up with him jumping from page to another and back to the first page. He also has the point system that I didn't get at all. the point system where you calculate the test, participation, and the hw, so confusing.
Professor Curran was HILARIOUS and Math isn't always my strongest subject but I did REALLY well in his class. He does NOT speed through lectures, he goes through everything in full detail, and I did better on tests than I EVER have in the past. If you have a hard time understanding anything he'll help you, plus he's VERY supportive and motivational
It was a great experience taking Math 335 with Professor Curran. He goes over everything and goes out of his way to make sure you understand. I greatly appreciated everything about the class including the fact that he has his own textbook. He is very knowledgable; homework actually helped strengthen my skills and I felt prepared for most tests.
Curran is probably the most caring teacher Ive ever had. He helps his students actually learn statistics, rather than just how to use your calculator. I was the least likely person to succeed in a math class, but hes set up his grading system so that anyone willing to put in good effort can at least pass, if not Ace stats. Great class!
It has been a year since taking Curran's Trig class and he is still my favorite professor on campus. He is a straight -forward grader and excellent instructor. Participation is crucial to maintaining a good grade and to understanding his textbook. If you participate- you will never struggle taking exams.
10/10 Would never take again
Great professor but I wouldn't take him again during COVID-19. He's not familiar with the online class system and I failed all the tests in the end though I started out the lock-in with an A+. He kept up the high level of difficulty with 2 separate PDFs to read paragraphs of info along with the textbook. Great professor to take when classes resume.
This man is all over the place. While he is nice and respectable, his teaching style is very confusing for someone who has never taken stats before (i.e.- you cause this is an introductory course). What made this worse was the switch to online, which he basically left us to fend for ourselves. If he is your only choice, take his class with caution.
I LOVE Prof Curran, I took his STAT 300 class in the fall and it was one of the best classes I've taken. He is very funny and loves what he is teaching. Classes are hard but worth the effort. However I would NOT recommend taking any of his classes online, I had to drop trig halfway through the semester. If you can take an in-person class DO IT!!!
take his class in person. online course is way too taxing, the due dates are almost impossible with the amount of work given, and with the class basically being a self-teaching class, it was very difficult to even begin with.
Do not take his class if it's online. At the beginning of COVID It was in person, and while difficult, it was a good class. After going online it was super difficult to understand and balance the workload. There are no zoom meetings and you're taught through written out lectures.
I cry every single day because of his class but at least he is funny. I love math but when he says the class will take you 6 hours a day, he means it. I seriously cry every day because of this class and it makes me sad to wake up in the morning. Definitely cannot have a life or fun
Took him spring 2019. He was cool but his lectures are one of those "feels like its been an hour and its only been 5 minutes." Never allowed to have your phone out so. Easy grade tho, homework is like the test. He is funny but talks kinda low. He grades on participation. Gives you formula sheet for exam. Def easier than other professors i heard.
Had to do online with him and it was a nightmare. No video component so you have to teach a math class to yourself, which he has no remorse for. His written out lectures are confusing and don't always have everything you need to know. If you're thinking of taking him, please don't.
Ensures he teaches differently than other sources so even if you try to find a video to explain what you're learning (he only gives an emailed lecture) you'll still fail the test. He offers no feedback so you don't know what you didn't know. Ive never cried so much out of frustration from one class. If you have to take it online pick a diff prof.
The first professor I have ever had who rather see his students fail than succeed. The only thing he provides is an electronic lesson you have to read. If you don't understand the lesson you cannot look up help online because if you show work that is not the way he thought you, he will fail you and give you a zero on the whole assignment or test.
I took his class over the summer so not only was the pace accelerated the material in itself was quite difficult. I received no help from him even after attempts to email him for help. I taught myself and relied heavily on tutors. We received 20 page pdf doc instead of in person lecture. Tests were graded by all or nothing even with small mistakes.
I took this class for summer and it's a lot of work. He's not the most helpful w/ Qs, but he does give answer keys and resources for you to do well in class. He has long lectures that you need to read, he does rant a little which is annoying, but they are packed with useful info. Do your CW/HW early if possibly, you'll do well if you do your work!
Professor Curran was my favorite professor I have had at FLC in my 4 years of attending. His lectures were great and he really cares about his student. His classes are set up so that it is basically impossible not to pass. Put in the work and you will get the grade that reflects your effort. Had him for Stats 300 and Math 335, best classes I took.
I had taken stats with Curran and he was good in-person. However, online trig with him is a nightmare. There is NO LECTURE. The class is self-taught via confusing documents that he types up, which begs the question - what are students paying for? You might as well use Khan Academy. But he'll give 0's if you don't follow his idiosyncratic methods.
I had him during COVID, so I get it was difficult, but seriously if you want your sanity don't do this -worst teacher I've ever had(And I've had plenty) -no communication skills when teaching(he uses a horribly written PDF and a $90 shotty workbook HE made) -won't let you use outside resources for comprehension -refuses to assist students over zoom
Very nice professor! He makes transcripts funny, not boring. There are 23 assignments and 6 tests. Tests are very easy if you take assignments seriously. He'll give extra credit if your tests are all correct. And he gives a quick response when you ask questions via email. He provides videos to explain how to do HKs. But I have no time to see them.
Curran seems to have a good understanding of the material but he executes it very poorly. He leaves you with long written lectures that for me were impossible to interpret even though I sat down and spent hours upon hours on his notes. I had to email him many times just to grasp an understanding and then he would tell me to refer to the notes.
He is very tough with his lectures. He makes long transcripts and so many lectures and expects you to be done with his homework earlier than the due date or else he would take one point off. It is impossible with the amount of work he assigns twice a week, to be done before the due date.
This professor knows everything but expects you to know it as well and he always does the math in his head and just writes the result. He expects you to do every homework before the due date and if not he will cut your points even if you do it on its due date because he thinks your procrastinating. But his transcripts are funny not going to lie.
Great trig teacher! Lots of good trig stuff. Lots of good math stuff in general. Pay attention to his examples. Study his little techniques. Great techniques to learn for this class and beyond. I was skeptical of his workbook at the start but it is rich in trig info. This is you guy if you are moving on to higher math classes and engineering.
Tests have to be done his way or chance of getting 0/10 per question. For homework does the even and expect you to do the odd problems. No teaching at all, excepts you to understand the textbook so he doesn't have to teach. Vey political IN A MATH CLASS. Tough grader on tests, doesn't tell you what's wrong and no rubric for tests.
I've been out of school for 12 years and jumping into trig was tough. Luckily Tim's weekly PDF's were on point. Very well laid out, make sure you don't veer from them as he will ask you to complete your homework in specific ways. Homework answers are provided, tests are the key. My grade was all thanks to his clear electronic material.
Summer Course & Online. Painfully below average experience. The professor is not available for questions, graded harshly & the lectures are PDFs & badly transcribed. If you're strong in trig, its nice. He'll leave you alone and you'll pass. If you struggle with trig/math in general, I'd seek a professor who is more invested in their students.
He is very straight to the point, lectures through the whole class, and works through problems clearly. He is as strict a grader as a statistics professor would be, but he was very clear on what would be on the test. Obviously, statistics is not easy, but he works to help students when they are confused.
Overall his lecture are difficult if you are unable to comprehend with his teaching style. I understood every lecture, but other didn't. I do recommend to put in the hours if you want to pass his class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE! He does not explain how to do the homework and will give you one video explaining one problem and a transcript of all of the answers, but when you don't understand something on the test its because you never learned how to do it. I even got a tutor to help me and even the tutor was confused.
He is very unprofessional, he is very rude. He accuses you of doing things that were not done. His lectures are not easy to follow along, and very confusing. He graded strictly. Would not recommend taking this class if you want a hard teacher.
If you want to experience life failure, I suggest this class. He doesn't care about your achievement and won't help you, particularly in summer classes. He deems you a cheater for doing your homework. He'll accuse you of cheating if you follow his instructions. His $100 book is poorly taught.
Hands down he has to be the WORST EVER teacher I will come across in my school years. He is the most stricted grader every, I don't even think you can even get a 100 on anything from homework, and tests. He is very stubborn and egoistic. He will never hear you out, the book is too expensive (100$), and horrible explainer. He doesnt deserve 4.3 rate
WORST PROF EVER!! Super tough grader, I could not get an A on a tests for the life of me, and if your work is even slightly different from his you get a 0. Not to mention five homework assignments assigned weekly, this class over the summer is horrible. Save yourself and do not take it. Avg test scores were always very low, save yourself.
This Prof is such a tough grader and is always accusing students of cheating, he is so paranoid. You would think its a summer math class how hard can it be to get A's on your test, he makes it impossible. Even when you do the tests exactly the way he shows you he still finds something to give you a 0 on, I didn't know what more he wanted.
He was SO mean!! After he would grade my tests I would email him to ask what I did wrong since my test matched exactly his, with the work and answers. His explanations never matched up, and he would make up excuses and go back on his words. He would then tell me to move on and be glad I did not get a 0 on the whole test. Is that even allowed?
Having taken the online summer course for Math 335 from prof. Curran, I have learned a very great deal from this professor. However, I do stress that you must UNDERSTAND the material, or you WILL struggle. Work AHEAD to make "space for grace", take hold of ANY chance to REINFORCE what you learned, and try to come into Math 335 strong in algebra:)
Class was easy; prof is one of the worst I've ever had. Very demeaning and condescending. Downright mean when you reach out for help. Uses a lot of figurative language which is hard to understand and outdated. Assumes each student is cheating. If you want to know how you did on the final you have to meet in in person the following semester. AVOID!
Problems not explained clearly, can't explain why he is deducting points for correct answers even after using his ways for tests.
I don't get the bad reviews. The professor is great and explains things clearly. I was nervous about the class being hard, and while you definitely have to study hard, it's manageable. They also respond quickly to emails, even outside class. If you put in the effort, you'll do fine.
Terrible professor overall. He uses his own textbook that uses different formulas than normal and gets mad at you if you use a formula that you learned in a previous class. He is basically unreachable, and he is very unwilling to work with students or even admit that he made a mistake. He has a crazy God complex that makes learning impossible.
I was a bit scared of the bad reviews I've seen of Professor Curran. But to be honest, his class didn't disappoint. Yes he created his own thick textbook that you use for the entire term, but he's actually a chill guy. Just stay focused, on task, and do the homework. He gave the option to not do the final exam too which was cool of him.
Great class, he taught the subject well and was very clear about expectations. Attendance is very important, but he offers some extra credit to make up for lost attendance points.
I don't understand all the negative reviews. Prof Curran is amazing with a strong passion for Math. He has a great sense of humor and wants people to learn. I'm horrible in math but had to take for my major. I was hesitant, esp after seeing the reviews but Prof Curran is a great teacher, has a great system and loves to see his students do well.
DISCLAIMER: I HAD CURRAN FOR MATH 375 (Pre-calc), NOT MATH 400, BUT MATH 375 WAS NOT AN OPTION AVAILABLE. Curran is personable and makes an effort to make the class entertaining. Despite some of these reviews, he is a very fair grader. There are many opportunities for extra credit as well. As long as you even TRY to do the work, you'll pass.
Best math teacher! So many extra credit opportunities He really cares about his students and does everything he can to help. He gives DETAILED study guides. Made Statistics understandable. Attendance is mandatory but he posts problems on every classwork problem and some homework problems.
