Like rest of the department, there is a reason they work with numbers instead of people.
Might be good at calculus, but not qualified to teach linear algebra!
There is a reason why he is qualified to teach at Platteville.
I think he is awesome at teaching Calc 3 and he is always very helpful and funny. I am getting an A and I failed the class first time around.
Take him for Calc.
Better than your average math prof at Platteville.
I have taken him many times. Extremely nice, funny and helpfull. Will go out of his way for you, by far the best professor at Platteville
Good teacher and a decent speaker, the textbook is terribel.
Fairly sucessful at teaching the basic concepts.
Has problems sometimes communicating the bigger concepts in Calc to us, but he really seems to make an effort to help us.
Very helpful and funny. Quizes every Friday. Tests every Thursday, with the following Friday off. Easy to find for help, almost always in Math Learning Center.
He is really above average for the department, you could make a worse choice.
Great teacher. He is easy to talkto and always willing to help you. He is usually in the math learning center. Take him over any other for calc3.
Decent Prof.
Some of his lectures are very complex and difficult to understand.
tests and quizzes are sorta tough, but good overall teacher
one of the teachers in the math department that actually cares!! highly recommended
Good examples makes the homework pretty easy. Ok in front of class and sometimes very helpful after class.
not the easiest tests but is there to help everyday in the math lab and is very nice
Very easy course. Good intro for non-math people.
is one of the better profs in the dept. helpful if you have questions after class.
Nicest guy ever, will always be there to help you when you have a question and never makes you feel stupid. I recommend him to anyone who has to take a math class.
By far and away, the best math prof. I've ever had. He relates well to students, he knows his stuff & he is a super nice guy to top it all off. If you can get him as a professor, do it. Especially if it is a calc class.
Best math teacher in department.
Very nice professor, I would recomend him to anyone. Very clear. Keeps class interesting with stories. Has nice shorts.
Simple formulas and very non-complex problem. Made me hesitate to stay becuse I felt this course was not a great prep, but I needed the A for my GPA.
good teacher and easy grader
Did a great job explaning all of the sections. Some of the material is very hard to grasp, and yet he was able to make me understand it. He gives weekly quizes and somewhat hard test, but don't be scared by his test, he teaches you well for them.
Deis is a fantastic teacher. More willing to help than any other prof. in the math department. He will make sure that you're understanding the material and if it's not "cool" with you, he'll put in the time. Would take him for every math class if he taught the ones I needed.
good teacher, knows what he's talking about and will take the time to make sure everyone in the class is understanding everything. tests are difficult, but fair
Mr. Deis is the best professor I've ever had! He encourages questions and makes the students feel good about being in his class. The tests are pretty hard, but he is so helpful that it is worth it. He tells silly stories every now and then that get the whole class laughing. He's absolutely awesome!
Very good prof. very kind and caring. extremly helpful in and out of class. some great in class storys. would definitly take him again
Great professor, best I've ever had for math. Teaches in a way everybody can understand, allways willing to go out of his way to help (even out of office hours). Very funny, fair grader, gives partial credit and curves at the end of the semester. Would HIGHLY recommend. Like they say on ebay ... A++++!!!11 (lol)
Excellent Math prof. Take him if u want to understand calculus. Always willing to help, easy to understand, tries to make sure that everyone knows what they are supposed to. Tests aren't too bad, if you do your homework you won't have any problems.
Great teacher! Really nice guy. Gives a review sheet before tests. If u can do that, you can take the test. I would highly recommend him for Calc 3.
Professor Deis is possibly the nicest math teacher I've ever had. Always incredibly helpful and teaches very straightforward. Simply put, you'd have to insane not to take a class by him.
Professor Deis is probably the best math professor on campus!! He has some of the funniest stories EVER and he is extremely helpful!! If I could take him for any of my other math classes, I would, no doubt!!! I would highly suggest taking Professor Deis, he ROCKS!!!!!
Take Tim Deis for anything you possibly can. Never have I known a human being more enthusiastic about what they do. He loves students and is extremely positive and easy to talk to. There isn't a better professor out there. Makes you work but makes it fun. Had a blast in class. If you are a math hater he will change the way you think for sure!
Awesome professor. Unlike most of the professors in Platteville Dies explains everything and makes sure people understand it. His tests can be hard but he gives enough partial credit that if you study enough you can at least pass if not get a B.
Best math teacher I have EVER had. Take him for as many classes as you can. He explains everything very, very well. He loves his job.
took him for calc 1, He is the best math teacher I could ask for. He is very easy on grading his quizzes a little harder on tests but he is an all around great teacher... and his tangents that he goes off on in class are usually pretty funny.
Dispite his shining reviews, I was EXTREMELY disappointed by the fact his review sheets were riddled with wrong answers. This made studying for exams tough when I could not get the same answer as what he had. I didn't know if he had the wrong answer or me. Also was often not in his office during his normal office hours due to other obligations.
Professor Deis is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. The way he explains things is phenomenal, and I am understanding math better now than I ever have. He is a super nice guy and his stories are a funny relief from the serious subject of CALCULUS
Excellent teacher. Always clear. No problem explaining things. Always has an interest in teaching and making sure the students understand. He is a great guy to talk to as well. Always willing to do whatever he can to help... Overall excellent teacher!!
He is the best teacher I have ever had for Math! He is very good at explaining things and is always willing to help. Don't be afraid to ask him a question, he often thanks you for asking questions. He loves his job. Definitely recommend him for Calc.
He is a very nice guy, and is always willing to help. He really likes it if you participate in class. This is to have point where extra credit is given from time to time. Also he is very entertaining. He is full of stores. He also pretty much wrote the final so you are more than prepaired for it. Great guy. great teacher and very "COOL".
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Explains things very clearly, loves to answers questions and is very nice. His tests are difficult, but if you do all the homework you will be fine! One of my favorite teachers here!!
GREAT. Very helpful pass with no problem if all homework is completed and in class questions are asked
Very genuine guy who is there to help you. Do the homework and come with questions and you'll do fine. His tests tend to be harder though.
Easily my favorite professor on campus. Very genuine guy. Always available to help you if you need it. Loves to answer questions. Actually seems to enjoy teaching. Definitely take him if you have the choice.
Deis is awesome. He's always willing to help and sincerely wants his students to do their best. He goes over difficult homework questions and he's always open during his long office hours. (And he lets the class know if he's not going to be there.) I'd recommend him to anyone going into Calc II.
My favorite professor yet. Will take as often as possible. Explains things really well and makes it easy to ask question and doesn't belittle you when he answers.
Such a friendly guy. Is willing to help anyone and everyone. Would definitely recommend for people!
Nicest teacher I've had, definitely cares about the students. While he'll go over any problem you have in class (or office hours), he doesn't grade homework, so if you want more immediate feedback I found buying the solution manual was helpful.
He is a fantastic professor and a must take! One of the best math teachers I've ever had. Goes above and beyond to help the students and lectures are all example questions. Very clear on what will be tested and is fair.
Very helpful and gets to know students. Offers help if you seem to be struggling with a concept. Always has office hours to help students before exams with last minute questions.
Probably the best human on this planet. He really want's you to succeed. Even though I've failed his class twice (two different classes) he's still my favorite professor.
Tim Deis is really nice. He explains conceptually and clearly. In class, he puts you in groups to do group practice of the day's topic and has group practice most days. He's not too much about memorization, which is what Calc 2 is a lot about most times. He also is always in the Math Learning Center to help outside of class.
Calc 3-You know exactly what every quiz and test will cover. Kinda goofy but knows what he is talking about and cares about his students. Has tons of office hours and gives recommended problems that are not required to be done but are recommended. Good split between concept and examples too. Would definitely take again.
Tim is the best math professor for Calculus 2. He knows his stuff and makes it goal to learn everybody's name. He also cares about his students and how well they are doing. I would recommend him to anyone.
Deis is the best option for a math teacher; especially Calc 2. He gives clear instructions on what he expects on the tests and quizzes. He does not assign any homework but does post on D2L problems and recommends everybody to do them. I did them all, it really helps! Also, he cares about his students and tries to learn their names from day 1.
Great human being. Helps whenever and however he can. HIGHLY recomend.
Really enjoys teaching and wants to help everyone be successful. Tests and quizzes are identical to homework problems and there really are no hard curve balls. Learning calc3 was interesting and worth it with Tim!
Nicest Professor on campus, he actually wants to see every one of his students succeed. Calc III can be tough, however the exams and quizzes are similar to class examples and homework. Do the practice problems and you shouldn't Have a problem
Greatest math teacher you will ever have
Hands down the best math prof/teacher I've ever had. He explains things thoroughly, gives reasonable practice problems and tests, wants to help everyone, and has a solid class structure. I left Calc 2 feeling like I near mastered the material, even though it's not an easy course.
Approachable, nice, and great at teaching.
Best math professor you could possibly have here. I had him for Calc II and Calc III. He takes terrible classes and makes them passable. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you will fail if you don't go to class. Legitimately cares about his students and will take the time to get to know you. Incredibly down to earth person. Tim Deis for president!
He' s a great professor. By far the best I have had at Platteville. I had him for calc II and he made the material easy to understand.
Nicest Guy you will ever meet! Cares about his students. Very clear lectures.
Very hard grader, like way to hard. He isn't testing you on concepts he is testing you on knowing the hardest problems. "I'm not trying to be picky but..." Homework is ehh and quizzes are easy. Test will get you though unless you know all the hardest stuff. Also I feel like he talks to you like a child or dog, he doesn't mean to, but he is.
BEST math professor on campus I think. Do some of the homework, show up to class, learn the concepts, and youll do fine, even in calc 2 tests are kind of tough but really caring professor and always available for help
Best Professor Ever. Took time to get to know entire class on a personal level. Wrote personal notes on the back of each exam. Combination of lecture and group work, and always takes homework questions at the beginning of class. Homework isnt graded, all grades come from quizzes and exams. Two quizzes are dropped. All in all a fantastic professor.
One of my all time favorite professors. Deis makes differential equations easy. I would recommend to everyone 10/10.
Its very nice to see how much he cares about all his students. Have no complaints with him whatsoever. An exceptional professor of calculus, take him if you have the opportunity to
He was awesome, i'm taking him again for calc 3. Understands and teaches material really really well.
Wow, what a great professor. Was lucky to have him for calc 2.
So so good. Take him over any professor any day. So willing to help and really cares about you. Do the practice problems and quizzes and exams will be okay.
never would have passed with another teacher
I had Tim for three classes and loved them all. He really cares for his students and makes it a point to get to know them. Tim does everything he can to help you succeed and I find it easy to learn from his teaching style.
Wonderful professor who really cares about how his students are doing. Wants us all to pass the class. He is very clear about grading criteria. He also gives out partial credit on exams and quizzes. There is no curving however. I recommend doing the homework but if you are not struggling on the sectional quizzes I would say its optional.
Deis has been an awesome professor for Diff EQ. He is approachable and caring and is very clear about his expectations. He is a much more lenient grader on exams compared to other math department professors. His lectures are engaging and my favorite part were the personalized notes he wrote on the back of every exam he graded.
Cares SO much about each student as a person and wants each person in his class to succeed. Tries his absolute best to help each student understand with many different examples. I am reshifting my schedule for next semester just so I can take him again. The best math teacher and one of the best humans I have ever met.
He is always ready to help anyone at anytime. Uses e-mail when not at his office hours. I would recommend doing the homework that he assigns as it will help a lot. Grading consists of online 5 point quizzes that are assigned everyday but due one week from the day it was assigned. The rest of the grades come from tests(4 tests and cumulative final)
Deis is the man the myth the legend. He is inspiring and makes math so much fun. If you're looking for funny lectures this is your guy and talking about the way he teaches this guy is a miracle.
If you have the opportunity to take him, I highly encourage you to do so. I endured a few hardships during the semester and he took the time to meet with me and give me the help I needed so I could succeed. His exams are difficult, however, they prepare you immensely for the final. I felt extremely prepared. Best Professor I ever had.
Deis is a great professor and even better person. Diff EQ is a tough class, but he made it easy. Gives so much feedback on every assignment and exam. Gets to know every student. If I could keep taking his classes I would. I don't know a single person that didn't do well in his class. Lectures are full of examples and super helpful in office hours.
Very experienced, helpful and kind. Would love to take any math class with him. Highly recommended.
Tough grader, gives no slack for understanding the basic concept of things, just cares whether you got it wrong or right. Doesn't care about things. poo
Literally the best man on campus. If you struggle in his class please just go ask him. He is literally willing to do anything to help you pass the class. His lectures are engaging and he tells funny stories!
This man loves his job. He truly wants every person his his class to succeed and will do whatever it takes to help any individual do well in his class. Lots of group work during lecture instead of just watching him do a bunch of example problems. Very generous on exams with partial credit. DiffEq was not an easy class but he made it a breeze for me
Dr Deis is undoubtedly the GOAT. He takes his students success personally and will do anything in his power to better explain a topic that you misunderstood. He really does care about his students and explains topics really well. Class is different than other teachers due to the group work time to work out problems rather than just lecture.
Tim Deis is an awesome professor and I am so happy I am taking him. His method of teaching is immaculate and I would strongly take him again if I could. Unfortunately, I cannot next semester. I would recommend him if you are looking to understand how math works (and the credit), without needing to understand the nips and grips of every single thing
Very nice guy, and he does a good job of teaching. Would definitely reccomend.
This is a great professor. He gets a little lost sometimes, but we all do. He cares about your success and if you go to class every day you will have no trouble passing.
Amazing professor. This was his first time teaching Discrete Math for a couple years, so he missed some things and wasn't perfect, but he taught everything pretty well. Most of the points are in the 4 exams, but if you do the homework, they aren't very hard. Very chill and funny guy too. Probably the best professor I've had at Platteville.
Deis is hands-down one of the best profs around. He really cares about his students and will go the extra mile to ensure your success. Tough exams, but with Unstuckstudy and the group work in class, you'll be set up for an A.
He is the best professor I have had on this campus, he really cares about his students and about what he is teaching. I had him for calc 3 and discrete math and in both classes he helped me a lot. He will make time outside of class to help you with whatever you need!
