A good class and teacher !!!!
funny, helpful, never boring, great teacher
Yes, he's cute but it's the intellect that makes him really attractive. As for class he's fun and provides a forum for discussion on many topics. I would recommend him and his class. Remember your deadlines and be thorough with your arguments; he will catch the little things you forgot.
An interesting class, that expanding my thinking on the subject, but he has a one track mind. He says he is neutral, but he seems to try to indoctrinate you into his way of thinking. But overall, an intelligent, helpful teacher, that can be challenging as well.
He doesn't really have a plan for class so if you enjoy random class conversations you'll like it. Nice guy. Nice, easy class but I didn't learn much.
Very self centered, egotistical & immature. Intelligent guy, but not very open minded. Tends to play favorites and is quite moody. Take at your own risk, lectures are scattered & tend to be disorganized. Pretend you are interested in debate and he will love you. Did well in his class & still wouldn't recommend him very highly.
After 15 years of not being a student, Tims' class was a wake up call. He was hard, but helpful in MANY ways. Taking his class will help me throughout my future. I began to actually enjoy having shaking knees and sweety palms by the end. Thank you!
Tim is an excellent teacher who challenges the students in his class to do the very best they're capable of without being an arse about it. Always goes the extra mile to make sure class information is understood. would take this class from no other speech teacher, only from Elizondo. I was actually sad to leave class once it was over, that's the fi
I found him to be extremely helpful. He is also quite attractive.
Really great class. It is one of the few classes at Columbia where you are encouraged to push yourself. I highly suggest this course for any student who is looking to get the most out of your education. I completely understand why Elizondo's debate team is one of the best in the nation.
I do not like this teacher at all. He is difficult to understand. Very harsh when it comes o grading
Theh class is hard, but it is extremely rewarding. Students who can't hack it or don't want to work won't do well. If you want to learn ansd think then take this class. If are you looking for an easy A, look elsewhere
Fantatsic Class that really seperates real students from lazy slackers that dont know how to read or understand why they are in a classroom. Tim doesnt put up with slackers....sucks for them. If you want to learn, however, he is the man...
Smart dude but plays favorites - his head is getting bigger and bigger, fair use of text: save money, buy an old edition. Sp 1 was pretty fun when he first started, but he thinks he is the new Ted&Paula (if you go to CC you'll get this) Dont really recommend him now, not sure you have other/better options at Columbia. Helpful when he wants to be.
does not teach. he simply programs the class for difficulty, them makes fun and name calls those who drop the class. He makes very little effort to actually teach the class. Then says you are challenged. He is a lazy ass. Who offers no REAL help. Everything is on a token level.
Superful and clear. Be wraned, you have to do the work. His difficult reputation is earned, but if you are not lazy then you will get a top notch education. I just wish there were more motivated students in my class, because it seemed as if he had a group of students who couldnt be bothered to engage with the course.
If you love a subject, don't take it from this teacher. You will hate it when you are done.I am very gifted in math and science, but I will most likely never get a degree because teachers like this who do not teach, but ridicule his students into doing it all themselves. Who needs him? This teacher sabotaged my will to go to school.
I feel sorry for the students that can't hang in his class. If your speciality is multiple choice tests and monkey tasks, don't take this guy. If you want to engage in higher level thinking, this class is for you. It truly seperateas the real students from the pedantic posers.
Hot! Awesome! Great Teacher that puts in alot of effort as he wades among a sea of slackers
I really miss him. He made an impression on me.
Really interesting, fun and helpsful. Not an easy A, but gives you all the information you need to succeed in his class.
he is a nice guy
Okay first impression = Smart A*s (seriously) he teaches the class like its philo, you ask a question and he basically asks the same question back at you; which you guess it, is not helpful. he doesn't understand that its a INTRO to speech class and expects you to read the book and completely understand. informative speech = okay, persuasive = hard
He was very negative and this was the first class I ever hated. Wish I had taken this from a different professor! I think I might have enjoyed speech if I had. Ended with an A but he made it miserable to get through the class.
I learned alot.....he makes you have to learn how to learn...I know alot of people find that hard as it hurts their heads......too bad for them.....great class.
It's his job to teach us to think critically and communicate effectively -- expect no more and no less, but know that he's damned good at it.
Dr. Elizondo is a caring, intelligent professor who has a unique teaching style. The class is difficult if you don't pay attention, so try not to get too mesmerized by those eyes.
Dr Elizondo is a badass who teaches like one. The skills that he taught my Speech class will resonate in all of my classes. I highly reccomend him to anyone who desires to better themselves.
Tim is a great person and a great teacher. He clearly states what he expects and you will do well if you pay attention. It's not an easy A-it is time consuming but so worth it. Anyone who complains about him is a lazy unappreciative person who shouldn't be taking college classes. He does everything he can to better you as a student. HE'S THE MAN.
I love him......charming, sharp, and fiesty
If you truly want to learn about public speaking and more then take this class from Tim. Be prepared to work and you will not be sorry. If you want to skate, then please choose another class. Tim is a professor with a unique teaching style that is often only appreciated by the serious student. Life is about choices so choose wisely.
Wow, let me just say that first! I was passing his class with a B on my 1st speech, a D on our midterm which was worth way less then the speech; so I pretty much had a high C to low B. So to help my grade I made an appointment to ask for some pointers, his so called advice was telling me I was a horrible student. Good teaching tactic, not!
Amazing. The best speech teacher one can take. He is tough, but fair and highly intelligent. A true paradigm changer.
He is out of this world/ F all these people who don't understand his wit, sarcasm, or intelligence- it's on anOther level- just deal with it. Learn from him- he will lead you in a good direction- Play, ask, question, debate and stay strong in your opinion- which you should be sure of-don't be foole by his eye candy appeal- he'll get u
There aren't enough good things that can be said about Tim Elizondo. He is extremely knowledgeable, witty, funny, and charming. Contrary to popular belief, he is actually one of very few great profs, if not the best of them. Have an OPEN MIND when you take one of his classes and you won't regret it. Just give him a chance, he's seriously awesome.
Dr. E uses the Socratic teaching method, there are no weekly assignments due and if you do NOT think critically about which you speak....then don't speak at all. I had a difficult time adjusting to his style, Dr. E is a person just like the rest of us, take his class seriously and he will work with you. USE INSTRUCTOR TIME.
There are alot of different reactions towards this professor from students. I don't find him to be as bad as most people say. He uses questions to answer questions. He grades harshly. He takes speech seriously, so don't think this class is an easy A. Overall, he is okay. Would recommend him if you are up for a challenge.
Elizondo is a tad moody! Sometimes he is pissy and seems to forget that there actually are people that want to be there and learn the material = p
Great class. I learned alot. I think the class is super helpful and I think this instructor gets a bad rap from students who are not willing to put in the "work".
Tim Elizondo is very arrogant, and basically loved to hear his voice way too much. Asking for help on anything was useless because he would make you feel horrible for even attempting. Attendance wasn't mandatory and the book was useless until about a week before finals. There are only two speeches in this class. It's pretty easy to pass.
I found this class incredibly useful and rewarding. Elizondo is unique and has a different approach that rewards effort and positive student behavior. I i just wish he would have gotten rid of the lame students earlier as there are many students who were in my class and seemed like they couldnt be bothered enough to engage with the course
Elizondo is not your typical Junior College professor. Yes he thinks he's all that and a bag of potato chips but you will actually learn in this class. He is a tough grader but you learn how to improve as a student. Utilize his office hours it is very helpful. If you are sensitive and lazy I suggest a different professor!!
He's a FANTASTIC professor. Yes, he has high expectations of his students. He's a friendly, intelligent and humorous man who taught me how to critically think and to effectively communicate. I now realize the value of truth and the process of seeking truth as ends in themselves. On a side note: Ladies, he's very easy on the eyes.
Good guy, is willing to help if you are willing to ask for it. Pretty hard class, but not unbearable, wouldn't take again but would recommend to people who are willing to work for their grade big time. Not many A's given.
By far the most intelligent, attractive, and compelling professor I have had in my academic career. He takes your education very seriously and expects you to do the same, this is college of course your classes are going to be at least somewhat challenging! Doctor Elizondo is the best professor a student could ask for, he's pretty close to perfect.
He is an extremely arrogant professor who is very unclear. He has stated that he does not enjoy teaching, which becomes very apparent by his demeanor. Don't take his class unless you are very patient and a Speech major with no other option.
He is charming and handsome but not a very good professor.
He is tough. YOu have to be in class and be prepared to work. Hard.
If you are a really good student and willing to work hard, an A is possible. Unfortunately, this is a small town CC, and most people have trouble passing. I understand that he teaches Socratically and respect that, but he can sometimes be downright rude about it. He can also be funny and engaging. Just meet w/ him often about your speech topic!!
When reflecting on my experience with this professor, an old saying comes to mind. "A smooth sea never made a skillful sailor." His classes can be challenging - but if you take full advantage of the skills the course can offer you, the reward is greater.
Elizondo is a great teacher, I loved his class and he made the class very interesting to be a part of. He had many events where there were goofy extra credit opportunities that were very popular in the class. Ultimately, if you are a class that engages well then he will invest in your success as well.
Tim Elizondo is a great professor if you expect to be critiqued as a beginner speaker for every single mistake that you make, and I add with no mercy. He is short of time and practically thinks he's a God. This man really doesn't seem to give a crap how much effort you put into an assignment unless you have it completely memorized. Good luck!
Super arrogant and rude towards students. Class time is wasted on being taught information that does not help you get a passing grade. Does not teach you how to write and deliver speeches, he expects students to learn it all from the textbook on their own. Treats every question asked in class like it's beneath him to even answer. Avoid.
So unbelievably pretentious. This class was so annoying, luckily it was only a month long, but that month dragged on. It was not an easy class. I did homework every single night, and I stressed even more than usual because he never really tells you what the assignment is. And don't ask him specifically, you'll just end up feeling stupid.
This instructor is very tough, if you want to get a good grade, either don't take this class or visit his office hours often.
I liked the guy. Yes, he is tough, but only if one rejects the teaching method and writing approach his class and textbook emphasizes. The class is highly dependent on the students who are in the course as their feedback and level of involvement often determines the direction of discussion and course content. He's sharp and willing to wield it.
Fantastic class. I learned a ton and would really suggest everyone take his class. Plus, he is nice to look at.
Great professor - smart, enthusiastic, and exciting. I would say that a majority of the negative comments on here are due to students being lazy and unwilling to change their work ethic. My experience in this class has been nothing but positive and has greatly assisted me in gaining a greater understanding of my relationships.
Great professor,If you want to think this is a class for you,all around good guy,he cares
He's a wonderful professor - insightful and HOT.
Elizondos class has been the worst schooling experience I've had thus far in school, I would not recommend this class to anybody I liked. Elezondo uses really inappropriate examples all the time, dose not answer questions, and expects the students to drive the class which would be fine except he dose not give us any tools to do it.
Anyone here ever notice the relationship that the negative reviews of this guy has with the quality of spelling within the reviewer's post?
If you attend class, SI group, and ask questions you will do well. He gives you all the tool for success.
I found Tim to be tough but fair, funny engaging and affable. I think people that do poorly in the class just don't try hard enough. He challenged me to think critically which keeps me much more involved than a teacher that just answers questions flat out, although I will say he loves his semantics.
Crass, rude, Socratic, and crude. He avoids eye contact when talking, his beady eyes prefer to shift about the room. Since he teaches speech, this combined with an off-putting amount of arrogance makes him the walking contradiction most people of the campus disdain.
I found his class to be interesting and insightful. He is friendly and challenging. I really enjoyed his class and cannot understand how some people cant do the work in his course as it isnt very hard.
I found Dr. Elizondos class really interesting and I believe I learn how communicate more effectively. His assignments are very demanding, especially during the summer (but what do you expect in a accelerated course), and often grades harshly. However, Elizondo wants you to grow academically and be prepared for further education. Good professor!
Dr. Elizondo is very clear on what he wants and as long as you ask questions, go to all the classes and do your best. He is fair on grading. He gives great advice and always has time for his students. Remeber to speak clearly.
Clear grading criteria presented in an unclear way. In general Hvaing Elizondo in any class will make it harder because of the particular way he grades things. If you can avoid him do.
One of the most important classes that I have ever taken. In fact, I repeated it for no credit. Going to take another class with him next semester. He is very passionate about what he does. Speaking in public is difficult, he is not. If you don't care then just do the work. If you do care he will give you as much time as you need.
Like many of you, I used this website to get an idea of how Tim is. I had heard mixed reviews from peers, so I had to take the class for myself to actually know. I am grateful I did. He is not this bad guy you've heard of. He speaks in specific terms and actually makes you think. This class is essential to your education.
I learned a a lot about how to organize my ideas and that is helpful. As far a source Tim, he seems ok as there are several students who seem to enter class wanting to not like him. As the class continued, they dropped and the class seemed like a good one
Worst classes I've ever had to take. I found Elizondo to be rude and crude and only an effective teacher to about ten Percent of the class if that. If you have the opportunity to have another teacher take it! if you have to attend this mans class, take lots of note because you will be able to use them for the midterm and final. Good luck.
The main issue is that the class is chalked full of people who don't care about this class. Tim is great with what he has to deal with and I got a lot out of this class. It is kind of an advanced courseas his teaching approach isn't kind of unique if one isn't used to the Socratic method. go to class and you should be fine
Alright, so Tim really grew on me over the semester. He can be a little pretentious/self righteous, but at the end of the day he just wants his students to put in the effort and try. This is not an easy A, but it is definitely an easy C. Show up to class and go to office hours (even if you don't for other classes). Choose group members wisely!
This man wants to see all his students do good, most all do! He understands if you're having a troubling time, and will work to be good for you/ In short he just wants to see you learn something, and see you grow in a good way. He finds the bad in you and takes it out, and puts in the good. Very easy class, but enriching.
Saw him make several different students cry due to harsh feedback. Take any other teacher if possible.
For me personally this class was a bit challenging. Although Tim does want you to suceed he aint going to just hand it to you. I had a bit of a hard time with his attitude. I am a Christian and open about my faith he made it clear that he didnt agree with me on the most part and I found that it really challenged me. Dont be afraid to be yourself!
Professor Elizondo is the most disrespectful and unprofessional professor I have ever had. He does not answer students questions, does not lecture on material relative to the course, shames students in class for asking questions and is sarcastic. He rarely shows up for office hour appointments. Tough grader and unsupportive to students. Do not take
Loved his class. You will have to put up with crazy students who are prone to quoting bible scriptures that they think is academic argumentation. But if you can stomach their craziness, this class is a hoot.
Cool class. Yes, Elizondo is an odd guy and kind be a weirdo, but he knows his stuff. This class is not for faint of heart as he makes students work for an A. I always found him nice and professional, but there are some who cant hang and seem to come out of the class angry. Not bad but not easy.
I took his first online class for Public Speaking. He didn't do too bad. He said his online class did better than his in-class lectures for the three presentations we had to do. l would do his online class because he is not the best in person
Nice guy. Smart class. I learned a lot from the professor who seems to be quite silver tongued. Its not a cake walk, but its not like it is hard if you follow the book and show up to class. Im not sure why the haters dont like him but it could be due to the way he teaches over their heads
I wished I would have taken this class online. Im doing well, but I just dont particularly enjoy his teaching style. Tim wants you to succeed and I would encourage going to his office hours, he very helpful if you personally reach out to him on your own time.
Taking speech online was interesting. Elizondo has a pretty good setup for doing your speeches. There are a total of 3 live speeches, everything else is pre-recorded and submitted. He is a tough grader but if you put in the work, read the book, and do your assignments in the format he requires, you will succeed.
So I tried this class online, I went to him for many office hours and did a poor job of communicating to me for a communications teacher. He has you criticize yourself and classmates all the time in hopes to make you a better writer/speaker. All in all I failed the class and have to retake it at MJC since he's the only teacher at Columbia.
I found the class to be reasonable and fair. He was very responsive and I found him to be helpful and friendly.
I took one of his classes online, and online classes clearly something that he was not prepared to teach. Multiple quizzes were broken and/or set up improperly. Assignments are given with numerous typos, grammer mistakes significant enough to make the assignments difficult to decipher, and many inconsistancies as to what assignments needed.
This guy has a weird rep as I always hear that that he is tough. I found him to be very kind and helpful during our crazy transition. He is quick to respond and I found his grading to be fair and helpful.
Professor Elizondo was a great professor. You could probably imagine that a SPCOM class would be odd online, but he made it work really well. Most importantly, he gave great feedback and great communication.
His class wasn't the easiest but it wasn't the hardest. He gives SOOOOOO much extra credit its hard not to pass. He is very clear about what he expects and gives great examples and videos. He was so easy to work with compared to other Comm teachers. I am considering him for another class.
Good material, but has oddly specific grading criteria, and grades extremely harshly on essay assignments - so much so that the course has to be curved at the end to avoid failing too many people. Maybe it's just my learning style, but I don't think I'm taking any more classes from him.
Professor Elizondo is a very enthusiastic teacher! There is quite a bit of homework along with a quiz about every week in regards to the text. There are 3 speeches and since this class was fully online he allowed all speeches to be submitted through Flipgrid. The class requires a lot of work but is well worth it!
This is one of the 3 classes I took that caused me actual Pain. It was my first semester in College but this guy is very hard to read and It was very hard to understand what he actually wanted. I dislike him heavily and while he is mediocre, just be prepared and ready to suffer a bit
Good Professor, very enthusiastic. Tough but fair grader. His essay prompts are extremely confusing!! However, he was willing to meet with me and clarify so I'm not to upset about it. Other then that he's a great professor.
I took his class as a young student and dropped it and hated him for years! fast forward to me being an actual adult with real responsibilities and needing to take this class to graduate! I was not looking forward to it. I was suprise to discover that I was the problem! He is very specific in what he wants, but he's also very clear!
part 2: So yes, he can be 'difficult" and "specific" but he's also very clear and specific about what he wants! I enjoy his outright nerdiness, as I myself am quite the nerd! He gets a tough rap and thats good cause he can be tough, but he's very clear about expectations, answers every single email i send and is really awesome!
If you're looking for a good online class, look elsewhere! The canvas shell is a mess and the professor is not tech-savvy. It's not a learning experience I would recommend, especially with in-person options on campus.
As someone who has no problem with public speaking and has done it for a long time, this class was difficult. He seems like the teacher that will not give an A. This class stressed me out. While he seems very knowledgeable, I think he is not the best-fit teacher for me.
Very specific and picky in his grading. In my experience, I have come to realize nothing you do will be good enough for this man so it is best not to try too hard, save yourself the stress. I think it's telling that all semester I received an A+ on my essays in Engl, and scored maybe a B on essays in this class. I'm so glad its over.
Grades ridiculously harsh literally NOTHING was ever good enough for him even after following his prompt. He would leave comments saying I needed to do this and that but was never stated in the criteria of the assignment. I have never been bad at essays but for some reason he said all mine were terrible.
As many have said he grades very tough including criteria not on your rubric. He's one of those people where if you don't say verbatim what he would have said, he will lower your grade. An example he used to tell me why I got a low score was my sentence should have been, "the process of making..." instead of "how to make..." also can't use tech
Professor Elizondo is a tough grader, but fair. He understands that life happens and will work with you so that you succeed. There are two major group assignments in the course (at the beginning and final). Overall, this class is great and informative.
At the beginning of the semester, with the first few weeks of assignments, I knew this was going to be dreadful class. I had Elizondo for Comm 4 for an online course. He accused me of using AI on my semester final, when there was no sign of me using it previously and it was genuinely my own work. He doesn't give clear instructions either.
The class was fully online, free online textbook, and recorded group meetings for particular assignments(Good). There were no pre-recorded lectures, vague assignment instructions, broken test answers (tech is not his thing), and feedback that seems to have been copied and pasted. I am taking my next speech class at another school to avoid him.
This class was very straightforward. The assignments could have used clearer instructions. But if you are confused, he is ready to answer your questions; you just have to ask. The video lectures are a little squirrely sometimes, but it makes for an easy way to stay attentive. It is not a hard class as long as you watch the videos and do the work.
Was a good teacher, easy to talk to if you need help working on projects. He is reasonable and willing to listen and take the class' opinion and thoughts into consideration. Homework is pretty simple and straightforward not to much to do. The speeches can be challenging. Just ensuring you keep up with where you should be at and you'll be ok.
The professor has a specific grading style, but using tools like unstuckstudy and staying engaged can help navigate this class. Attendance is a must, and the workload, while manageable, requires diligence.
Hard to understand during lectures. Talked a lot, not in a good way.
Great teacher with a high IQ
every class felt like a socratic seminar, no real lectures.. really just lectured based off what questions people had and then did a speech icebreaker type thing. graded tough on speeches but other assignments are really easy. doesn't really check in on speech progress so its very self-led.
a very knowledgeable and well organized teacher. You'll love his teaching style he makes complex topics easier to understand and really wants you to grasp the philosophy behind the material.
Engaging professor. He is well skilled in his field and knows how to captivate an audience. If you follow his instructions, do your homework, and engage, it's a very good class.
This was one of the worst experiences I have had as a student. The teacher is unprofessional and does create a safe learning space. Questions are ignored or mocked. Avoid this class at all costs. It is a waste of money. The teacher is not effective, he appears to have no actual teaching style and changes rules and assignments last minute.
I'm sad the class is over. He's not your typical instructor but I think that's what was so enjoyable for me. He lectures by example through expressive communication/class dialogue. Lecture is performance (much like public speaking). The course challenged me but he was responsive and helpful outside of class when I needed help on assignments.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! avoid at all costs. He will make your mental health decline rapidly. He is rude and unprofessional, while he is unclear about what he wants done and gives no help on actual public speaking. He accused me of using AI on my final speech, to later find out it was my own work.
Avoid if possible. Feels like he is performing and very fake. Not a strong communicator, rarely responding to emails and unclear is what he wants for assignments. All information comes from the textbook, not in class. Questions are ignored or mocked. Confusing to talk to.
Elizondo was okay. Interesting class at times and the workload wasn't bad. I was afraid of speaking but I got over it by the end.
Very different kind of teacher. He doesn't lecture as much as it's more like he interacts with the class by Socratic Method. Weekly quizzes and comprehension checks in class but then it's just speeches. Doesn't give notes or test info so take notes I wuld take again
