Tests are hard, but easy if you pay attention. Has a great teaching personality
very COOL teacher!
great guy, funny and nice. and cute (but married) ;)
I suck at science. people told me if i took an online bio course i was in for a doozy. but tim is great im averaging a B!.. thats impossible... TAKE HIM! HEs SOOO MUCH FUN!
very cool guy! class isn't too hard if you just go to class, pay attention, and look over your notes periodically before tests. no quizzes, just tests, one field trip to the wild animal park. him and mark make the class quite enjoyable!
HIs typed out lectures are helpful for online classes
The online class was great. He quizzes you every week so you can see how you are doing, labs are fun and interesting. Lots of work but rewarding, online lecture notes make it easy to study, book not required. Helps to have a dedicated S.I.
His website is very helpful for his tests. I enjoyed his class. Take this professor.
I would definately recomend taking his online biology class. He gives his personal notes every week which are simple and easy. i passed the class without even reading the book. he is kind of dorkish but has a good sense of humour.
Very funny teacher but hard exams.
Prof. Revell is very nice and funny. The marine bio class was not that hard, all you have to do is study the lecture notes by Schmidt. The exams are ok hard and the field trip was easy points. He will use the final exam grade to replace one of your lowe
I loved this class!Mark and Tim work so well together. They are patient, and are really open to any questions that you have. taking notes is KEY! Tim is sooo HOT, he looks kinda looks like joey from friends, accepts Tim blows him out of the water! he!he!
He is a very good teacher, likes to joke around, not alot of work, and if you study the test, they are very easy, over all 1-10 is a 9, recommend to all A+++++
Tim is extremely funny and entertaining. He reminds me of Chandler from Friends. He always keeps the class involved throughout the discussions. He also provides clear and thorough explanations, with worksheets full of pictures and descriptions. His tests are primarily based on his lectures.
This guy spills water on me in lab! But even more so, he's probably one of the best teachers ive ever taken. He's like the ADD without the Ritalin! A+ NUTTER, hippie, and arse-warrior right up there with Xena! Absolutely a gotta-take teacher! Funny eyes, though. (oh no tims gonna kill me)
i dreaded taking biology when i first signed up for it, but having tim for the teacher was awesome! he is sooo funny and not even strict at all. he is so laid back and always has jokes to tell u n keep u laughing. if u want biology to be fun and interesting, TAKE THIS TEACHER! u wont regret it!
Tim was awasome. His website was very helpful and tests were very relevant. I took him in the summer 2 years ago and he remains one of my favorites. He's funny and super lenient, just go to class and youll be fine, go to class and listen to his jokes, they might appear on a quiz! Oh and he's HOT!!
I loved this class! He and Mark work very well together and are always bouncing off each others teasing and jokes. They are patient, and are really open to any questions that you have but the tests are a little hard. Take notes and really understand material and you will do well; don't bomb any test
He is a funny guy. He tells great stories and the notes are straight from this booklet you buy for 10 bucks. You dont even need to buy the book because his tests are like 90% from the notes and the other 9% are weird questions or jokes he mentions in class like his hobbies.
He is such a great teacher. I HATE science, I'm so bad at it, but he helped me through it and did everything he could to make things clear. I got an A! You'll do great in his online class, just read his notes, don't worry about the book. That's what I did and it made it so much better. Good luck
i love him! clear notes! i took his online class n' got an A simply with reading the notes
very cool teacher. he is linient with grading on the practicums as long as your close on the dot. the class was 4 hours long i think, but it seemed like it was only about 1 or 2 hours.he ocassionally leaves the room, but he comes back and helps you out on your questions. Very cool/laid back teacher
very funny and cool, makes notes fun by tellin hilarious stories relates to him, exams are hard at times, base on how hard you studies but overall, a very fun teacher
Wow...all of the previous comments are 100% true! Tim is one of the best prof. at Mt.SAC, he's funny, leniant, and his tests aren't too hard, but if you don't study then you could fail...so just study his lecture note packet thats like $10. I hated bio since h.s., but now the class isn't so bad!
Tim is definitely a great teacher, a very funny guy, but gee whiz! the tests are tough, quizzes do take serious studying, it's just sad because the average grade in the class was like 65%. highest grade was about 76% not even joking haha so if you're looking for an A, don't take his class inless you're a bio major, or you're crazy about bio. haha
It wasn't an easy course but it was fun and I would do it again if I could. Mark and him are great, patient, and are really open to any questions that you have. Tests are a little hard so study, take notes and really understand material. You will do fine if you put effort into the tests.
Very good, interesting teacher. Knows his material and knows how to teach the material. Besides that, he's totally yummy.
Very good teacher. He excepts alot from his students, but he does encourage our best.
Let me put it this way, before I took his class I didn't care about bio whatsoever. Now, with his class that drove my major to be biology, thats just how good it is. One tip is to study study study, when you got some free time just study for a little bit, then when he lectures he'll cover the parts you didn't understand when you studied. GREAT GUY.
he and mark cooper are very lighthearted and play around a lot
a tough but funny guy. you will feel he is meaning sometimes but actually he is very helpful and make you learn lots stuff. we all like him
ONLINE CLASS IS COOL! Quizes and exams are not extremely hard, but you really have to UNDERSTAND (not memorize) all the stuff in his LECTURE NOTES (not the thick textbook). That means, you only have to read around 6-7 pages per chapter + the lab book, that's it!! However, you absolutely have to spend time understand all these. Work harder for an A
great guy,He will make a boring class interesting and funny. He also can pust out your potential and teach how to study efficiently. Strongly recommand his on-line class. you can get more than you expect.
Cool guy. Very helpful and friendly. You will not feel bored in the 3-hour class. Quizzes and exams are ok as long as you put effort on them. If you don't study, you will absolutely fail.
Tim is a great teacher! He's not the easiest teacher but he is a good one. He want's to make sure you understand information, which is good. Right?? Test are quite difficult but if you understand the information and not just have it memorized then you shouldn't have a problem! I totally recommend him. Oh and he's hilarious too!
Tim is an amazing professor. He makes a boring class a lot of fun with his funny stories. And ofcourse we were his best class ever. Summer 2006 rocks! I would definitly recommend him to everyone. His tests might be a little hard for some people but if you study a little you'll be fine.
this professor has many funny stories, made the class very interesting . but omg his test are not easy . make sure you study you ass off if you want an A. take good notes. it will help you. and make sure your not late quizes are right in the beginning...
This guy is a real Jerk. He's one of those teachers that actually enjoys failing his students. Must be the fact that he's a new teacher and trying to revenge for his sorry a$$ graduate school days. Study the exact opposite of what will be on the test!
ok. wut can i say...representn CLASS OF 06 summer session 1--(BEST CLASS EVER) according to tim. yeh. igot F%kt over for not showing up to one of the wildlife reserve trips, my grade droppt 8% from 93%. Pulled out a 95% on the final, missed an A- by 1.2%. LIFE SUX!!!!!! HORRIBLY, soberness for the lose. but time is great cuz his wife is hot.
he is pretty nice, but the class is crazy. All you do is memorize stuff, you dont even have to understand it. and you copy notes until your hand hurts. NO curving on tests. and very little extra credit. but no homework.
OK first thing to say, I was in the BEST class of summer summer session 1 2006!! We got the best grades ever!! OK Tim is a really good teacher, the way he explains things, funny stories... The class itself is OK. you have to UNDERSTAND the material though NOT JUST MEMORIZE IT. Lecture outline helpes a lot. Don't even really have to read book!
Funny guy, but I must warn you, his class is extremely fun, the bad thing is that his Exams don't follow his studyguide outline. If you are working don't take this class, it requires a lot of studying! Labs are fun, but long. Overall I wouldn't take the class again because his lectures don't follow the book chapter by chapter. =(
Tim is an awesome professor! You can tell that he has a real passion for biology, and he really knows his stuff . He is also really funny! It is very important to attend all of his classes if you take him, because he does not utilize the text. Most of the test questions are from lecture. The tests are HARD, so study!!! I highly recommend him.
GOOD GUY
OMG one of the best classes i took at mtsac, but BE READY TO STUDY YOUR A** OFF (dont use the study guides, they dont help...just study everything!)!! it takes alot of work to get a good grade. tim is funny tho and you'll have lots of fun. go on the overnite trip or you'll regret not having some of johan's yummy carne asada!
Really nice person. His tests are hard but he lets you know up front that you better study and be prepared. In other words, he doesn't give away As. I studied a lot and still only got a C on midterm.
I can definitely agree that Tim has been one of the best professors I have had. You do have to study alot. I do agree that the study guides do not really help, but there was extra credit and alot of quizzes and assignments that "help" your grade as long as you do them as well as show up to class. Also, he is very very funny! A great class!!!
This easily the best teacher I've had at mount sac! My girlfriend and took this class together and love every minute of. Learned a lot of cool things, Tim is one of teachers you can connect with and learn a lot from. Getting down to business,His is very organize and you have purchase his notes (or u should anyway). Study them and you'll be fine
Tim is an excellent teacher. Very down to earth and funny. His tests and exams are not easy but you can do extra credit to bump up your grade. Very fun class.
tim is very funny. he tries to even more funny with the morning classes. his tests are hard though.
you meet one day a week. lecture notes are given to you online. weekly posts which are super easy. quizzes on each chapter. as long as you study your lab & lecture, you'll do fine. labs are fun. teacher is GREAT! so don't miss you (: you meet the best looking people here too!
I needed a class that was online to shove into my schedule, so I took hybrid BIO 1. I was going to drop when I found out there were mandatory weekly labs, but decided to stay since Tim's hot. Lo and behold, not only is Tim hot, but he's a great teacher and a funny, very approachable guy. And BIO 2 is definitely worth risking your perfect GPA for.
Educational sadomasochism at its finest.
Great teacher, very passionate about the subject. If you study for the class and stick with it, you will pass
I'm currently in his class and even if I don't pass, I still think his class was totally worth it. I've never learned so much so fast. He teaches you through life experiences and keeps you laughing even through some 3 hour lectures. I wouldn't pass up an opportunity to be in his class again ever.
excellent teacher even tho it's not an easy subject. great personality which helped me stay attentive during lectures. he loves to joke with students and makes labs fun. one of the best teachers i've ever had
Will most likely kill your 4.0 but not because of the professor. This class is serious business, and professor Revell is totally baller at teaching it. Take this class and you won't regret it. Very fun and awesome overnight camping trip that is well worth it
You learn a lo tin this class but it is not easy. Tons of information to retain.
Awesome, funny guy. Learn a ton. Not a free ride, not an easy "A". You will earn your grade no extra credit (except lab help). Pay attention/read up extra on cellular respiration and photosynthesis, the second exam is hardest.
Tim is funny and lectures well, so there's no point in skipping class. Subject is not that difficult but there's a lot to memorize. Need to put in time and effort to get an A, especially for the practicums. Seems like he cares about the students. Doesn't matter if you're a bio major or not.
took him for bio 1 hybrid course so i only had to go to class to do the lab. online lecture were really helpfull. know them well. short quiz everyweek with a midterm and a final. you gotta earn your grade but i would highly recommend this teacher
Tim is a pretty awesome person. He'll definetly keep the class entertained with his personality. This class is for SURE not an easy A. but youll enjoy it for the most part. Hes not afraid to call you out and embarass you. thanks tim :)
This class is a bit of a challenge no matter which professor you choose. As long as you stay on track it will be okay. Tim makes the class enjoyable so you won't feel extremely bored. I am happy I chose this class and professor and did OK overall. P.S. Study the "history of earth" chart!
food and beverage nazi. hes spot you from a mile away and isnt afraid to call you out :) obsessed with cal poly. rides a bike. HOT. haha absolutely hilarious..not an easy A but it was worth my time.
Straight forward teacher, very difficult class. Everything you need to know is in the notes or lab packet. Excellent memory is a MUST to even have any hopes of getting an A . If you have never heard of sleep, this class wont help you remember what it is. Very, very time consuming. 4 Lecture Exams, 4 Practicals, 1 Final. Textbook never used.
an excellent professor. very funny and helpful.it is a very hard class but if you study hard, A is your destiny. He makes a lot of funny jokes and I will say quite a lot EDUCATED JOKES. won't get bored in his class..I loved his class.
Revell made bio 1 pretty easy. I took his hybrid class, so we only had to go to class once a week for lab. There is a quiz over his notes once a week, but they are really easy if you read his notes. The only thing that sucked was that I wasted money on a book, which I never used. He is a funny guy and makes the matterial easy for people to get.
This class was possibly one of the more challenging courses in my semester, and demanded more time than my other 13 units combined. Learn to read the text, spend time on the lab, and remember to study. He's a fun and interesting professor, but he takes biology very seriously. I had to work pretty hard to earn my grade. He grades pretty fair.
I had him a few years ago, and now I have graduated. His class prepared me for a 4 year university better than any others at MTAC, and I've had some awesome professors. He's one of the best though. Very hard, but he wants his students to succeed. Plus, he is SMOKING hot. Oh...if he were single...
great!!!he should be named as the best biology professor at Mt.sac.Highly recommended.Btw he talks a lot and he is really a great guy.
Nice guy, but a very hard grader. When he says he does not give A's he really does not give A's. I took the hybrid class, and sacrificing lecture time means sacraficing straight forward quizzes. His quizzes are very very detailed so read the lectures and homework carefully!
the hardest class ever.. lecture exams are the most difficult part of this class. always check your wrong answers so that you could do better in the final. and do all the extra credits since the very beginning
I took his hybrid class for Spring semester and even though the class was fun, it was still pretty hard! If you don't study, you will fail this class. He really helped me out whenever I was stuck with something and he always answered my e-mails. I always recommend him to my friends if they want to take bio.
there are SO much things you have to know about. But he talks A LOT with either students he likes, or annoying students who come over and visit him from other classes. So there you are, raising your hand, asking for assistance for 10-15minutes, and THERE he is, joking around. THAT is the reason why students don't do as well in practicums. Terrible
I took the hybrid course Spring 09. His daily quizzes are intense, so STUDY!!! But they aren't difficult either, just pay attention to detail. Tim is a great guy that tries to make the material as easy to understand as possible but you have to work hard. I busted my butt for an A and still got a B, but in the end I knew I'd learned a lot from him.
I took his hybrid class, I did not like his quizzes. Too detail-oriented. I tried to get an A, but ended up with a B. Only one person out of about 30 got an A in the class. He is not really known for giving A's. Really nice and funny guy though.
bio2 is pretty much taught by only two prof: revell and cooper. not sure how revell is for his other classes, but he's sorta useless in this one. he's funny and he knows his stuff, and the class is hard regardless. but you're better off with cooper for bio2. he's the one who actually prepares the material, and revell mostly teaches based off it.
He's nice and all, but this isn't an easy class. He makes his tests unnecessarily detailed. I knew the material, studied and still got a B. There wasn't a single A in my class and numerous people dropped. It was an alright class.. but don't expect an A.
I don't think it matters which professor you end up taking the class with, the material covered is the same. This class is all about how much time and effort you're willing to put into it. It's your responsibility to memorize all that material, and believe me there is A LOT. Start studying now!!!
great! he is very helpful and extremely funny.u won't get bored in this class:)
Bio 2 is hard, but Revell doesn't make it so bad after all he is the SEXIEST MAN ALIVE!!
If there is one thing to say about this class is that it requires time!!!!what I mean is that it requires you to stay home during weekends (THE WHOLE SEMESTER) or else you won't pass this class. I Got a B, but it was hard its just too much. Don't get confident at the beginning because its easy, but at the end it's like hell!!! Especially the final
Yes, you certainly need to put in the study time. If you understand the concepts, and you review the detials of his assigned reading, an A is within reach. BIO 1 is much easier if you've had Chem or Physics.
This class is the most time intensive class at Mt. SAC, expect all nighters, weekends at home and loss of social life. Tim's great, always has answers for your questions. Heed my warning this class is extremely time consuming. If at all possible take this class by itself if you want an A.
Wow! Bio 1 with Revell is not easy. No one can pass this class the usual way- by not studying. Professor is very up-front about hours required to get a good grade. Revell is funny and lighthearted, a realist, great at talking and easy on the eyes. Definitely worth a look or two.
If you want to get an A (and yes, it is possible) then you must devote your life to Bio 2 for 16 weeks. Tim makes class fun and exciting which is a huge plus! Do not procrastinate!
I loved this class! Revell was an awesome teacher and very passionate, which made it more interesting. It is not necessarily a hard class but more time consuming, it is a very memorization based class. If you put the time and effort you will get that A! Text book use is just additonal info.
Bio 2 is as intense as everyone says! Do not under estimate it! It will require that you devote most of your time to it. A is posible, but you must not get behind. Revell makes the class fun which is also a huge plus! Good Luck
I am not a bio major so keep this in mind. This class was very challenging! One of the hardest classes I've taken. I studied continuously and still don't all the differences between meiosis and mitosis. Labs are fun but can be challenging at times. Midterm is brutal!! One helpful tip, DO EVERY LAB CLEAN UP POSSIBLE;I scrapped by with a B!
Hardest Bio class I've had thus far but being a Bio major it wasn't all that difficult just lots of material to cover and memorize. Revell though makes it very interesting and he is extremely helpful simply ask and you shall receive, great teacher to take but be prepared to devote some time to studying.
Tim Revell is a great professor, don't let anyone tell you otherwise! BIO2 is one of the most difficult classes at MSAC. That being said, be ready to study. I did! I got an A! Tim likes to challenge you to be your best. Very challenging course but definitely prepares you for harder courses. You will be happy that you took Tim for BIO2. Take him!!!
Very fun class but extremely hard. Tim is nice and funny but he can be a jerk too. Don't piss him off :) if your ready to dedicate your life to this class take it with him...
1st off, if you are not committed to attending your classes and putting quality study time in, do not take his course, you WILL fail. That being said, though, Tim was my favorite teacher. He tries to make things interesting. Bottom line, he wants students to learn and be aware and I love that about him. Probably one of the best Ive had at MTSAC
AWESOME teacher (my fav by far). After taking HIS class, im really considering becoming a biologist. u learn alot. Its a lot of information but hes seriously there to help u thru it. Hes like a student teaching the class, funny & very encouraging. Im not going to take Bio 2&4 unless its w/ him. Attendance & willingness to learn is required though
Tim is awesome! He's chill and he's funny (not as funny as cooper though, but as a couple they rulez :D). You must take Tim/Mark for Bio 17! Bio 17 is super fun and interesting; however, both Tim and Cooper are tough prof, but they let you exactly know whats on the test. He's very helpful and cares about all his students
This class is TOO easy. I received an A with minimal effort. Show up to class, do the homework, write down all the topics you missed on the quiz, review the study guides a few times before the test and you're guaranteed a good grade. Mark and Tim are the perfect pair to teach together. They are very different but similarly laid back.
Prof Revell is an amazing professor and extremely helpful. His Bio 1 class is challenging and you do have to study in order to receive an A. He makes everything very clear and always wants each individual to succeed. I took him over Fall 2012. I would recommend him to anyone that wants to take BIO. Such a funny guy and wonderful professor!
Tim is awesome, I love him.
Dr. Tim is one of the more memorable professors I've had. He's funny, helpful, friendly, and great at explaining topics without boring the class. Not much more to ask for from a professor. Despite his warnings that the class was difficult, it's really a cake walk if you consume the extra material he offers and/or give heed to his recommendations.
If you want a good grade you have to work for it. He says the text book isn't really necessary, but some questions on the quizzes are from the book (he won't admit it though). And isn't very helpful with the review session after the midterm. Overall, he's okay.
Bio 2 is going to be terrible, but it's not impossible to get an A, you just have to be hard working right from the start and don't slack off!!! Revell is a great prof and nice and approachable. His lecture exams are very doable, but the practicums are the hard part. Though I have to say that he tests hard, but goes easy on you at the end.
Great Prefessor. Really recommended.
Awesome professor. Just do what he says in regards to studying and you will do fine. He is not an easy professor, but wants his students to succeed and will help you if you ask for it. Surprisingly not boring considering how uninterested I initially was in Biology. Definitely one of my favorite professors so far.
I HATE Bio.BUT!With this professor its become my new fav subject!hes very helpful and as long as you put in the work you will PASS!Take his advice&do flashcards!I promise u wont regret it.Hes funny&easy going, just participate&study.the book isnt really required but i have it anyway.Dont b afraid to ask q's if u dont get something. He'll help you!
The class is not that easy but this professor is the BEST ONE I HAVE EVER HAD!! He is fair and very helpful. If you do your work and keep up with the work, he will grade you fairly and genuinely cares about the students! I am so impressed with him and took him for two classes. I highly recommend him and can't say enough good things about him
Excellent professor!! I can't say enough GREAT things about him. He is genuine and cares about his students. I took two classes with him and his class is not easy but he makes it FUN and is very fair and helpful!! BEST professor at Mt. SAC hands down!!
Hybrid course for Bio1. Work hard for an A, he only rewards hardworking students. Every point matters. A lot of memorization of detail. Very chill professor, funny sense of humor
I love Tim, he's awesome and helpf. Take him, study, do the flash cards!he will help if you need it. i could have gotten an A if I studied more. getting an A is possible if you study and pay attention. Def taking him for micro in the winter.
Show up, listen, study the lecture handouts and read the labs and you will pass. He's a very fun professor and you will love coming to class, he's funny and very smart.
Very funny, lectures are interesting and well-organized. A very reasonable professor. Study his lecture material, show up at labs, do the appropriate amount of studying, then you will have no problem. Really enjoyed his class, definitely recommend to others!
Worst professor I have ever had in my life. He insulted my intelligence and made several other people look like fools infront of the class. He is very opinionated and brings up his own politics that have nothing to do with the class. I would think about crashing on my way to school, just so I wouldn't have to sit through his class.
Very poor experience for me. There is no amount of money that you could pay me to take his class again.
Tim is awesome! I took his MICRO 22 class as well and I learned so much. He makes you work hard and that really prepares you for transferring. I appreciate the way he teaches and his intelligence. Anyone that says he is too hard is lazy.
Prof. Revell is a very nice person. He's very helpful & easy to understand. Took his online hybrid class & there's a quiz at the beginning of every lab. Tests & quizzes aren't too difficult if you study the material. Everything comes from the lectures, the book isn't necessary, but helpful. Highly recommended!! I would definitely take him again.
Tim's a great professor - humble, hard-working, makes it look easy. The material is dense, there's just a lot of it but Tim is organized and consistent. the rest is up to you (i got a B because I missed assignments and quizzes) but Tim makes it as easy as possible while still creating a solid academic environment. fair, non judgmental, smart guy
had a positive experience even though the class was a lot of work. had to take Bio twice and acttually noticed how different instructor's impact the accessibility of the material. Tim gives weekly quizzes on the previous week's topics which help keep the info with you for the midterm and finals. he's supportive, and pretty laid-back. good vibes.
chill professor, bio has alot of info to cover though. professor assigns the flashcard method of learning the first week and then its up to you if you want to do that. you should though -- advanced learning studies suggest that traditional study methods suck in comparison to the memory retrieval method of flashcards. do it for an easy A.
BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER TAKEN. Of course the class was very tough, especially with all the material you need to memorize. I think he is an excellent teacher and knows how to make the boring subject fun by keeping your attention with his humor. He clearly outlines everything you need to know it's up to you to study it all.
Prof Revell is by far the best professor i've had at Mt Sac. He makes learning biology really fun and interesting. Does give you weekly quizzes but if you watch the video's he puts online and study the notes he posts you'll be fine. Gives you study guides for midterm and final. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Midterm is hard. Final is Easy! Make sure you do very well on quizzes, homework, & lab. Quizzes & lab are what you need to ace the final. You do well on midterm, then you make easier for you. Don't miss class or quizzes. No make-up on anything. Lots of extra credit at the end. Forum Questions as well. Do well on quizzes is a must! Online class.
By far the hardest class ive taken so far. A class has never forced me to sit and study for countless hours like this one.
Great professor with easy-to-follow guideline. Exams and quizzes are easy if you put effort into reading the online notes and answering questions on lab report.
A great, clear professor that makes the subject interesting and fun. In his class you get what you work for. He also offers great advice into future work fields (if you ask) and really puts time and effort into teaching his students. I highly recommend him.
Awesome professor with a sense of humor. He's passionate about his profession and as a student you can respect that. Quizzes each week, - lab each week, and midterm was difficult! Fast paced and don't bother getting the textbook he doesn't go by it.
Best teacher I have ever taken! He definitely makes the class fun. Would take again any day
This is a hard class but he makes it amazing. He is a very funny teacher and cares about his students
It is a very difficult class, but the professor is a great lecturer. I'd recommend taking his class since it challenges your ability to study.
By far the most difficult class I took, only because the amount of material you need to MEMORIZE. This subject contains a lot of material but its all there available to you. Tim is a great guy, one of the smartest professors i know, and coolest. The grade you get depends all on you. Offers extra credit and cares about struggling students. Thx Tim
The sheer amount of memorization required will make you question your sanity. However, Tim is HANDS DOWN the BEST professor you can take for this class. I'd compare him to a "chaser," if you will, after taking a shot of cheap booze. It's still going to burn, but he eases the pain. STUDY, STUDY! Don't wait until the morning of and panic (like me).
Tim is very smart and presents this course very well. Bio 2 is a very difficult class because of the VOLUME of material to memorize. You seriously need to use time wisely, listen to his advice on how to study. The material is straight forward, but watch out for Tim's trick questions. Bio 2 will be your most time consuming course by far, I warn you.
Tim is a very attractive teacher! It's clear that he is passionate about the subject he teaches and he really makes everyone work for their grade. He is always open to answering questions and helping out if you don't understand. Weekly quizzes! The Mid term has two sections for the labs and lectures, then a final for lab and lectures. Good Luck!
Amazing professor. Writes out the lecture for you every week. Study that and the lab and you will do great! He hands out a grading sheet at the beginning of the semester and he passes by the quizzes at the end of every class period. You will always know what grade you have in class! But please, TAKE HIM! HES GREAT!!!!
By far the best biology professor I've ever had. Took him for bio 2 and it was the most enjoyable class I've taken. Insanely funny, gives in depth career advice if you just talk to him and writes the best & most thoughtful recommendation letters. Honestly cares about every single student.
He's wise but not intelligent, lectures can be boring from his lack of enthusiasm, and he spends most of his lab time talking to SI. However, he has a good down-to-earth sense of academics and he guides you on how to succeed. Bio 2 is a difficult class no matter who you take, but Tim's a good choice for interesting facts and guidance for studying.
i find biology to be intriguing; however, it's my achilles heel when it comes to academics. a lot of the stuff is boring and lectures can be long. I've taken a few professors who just put me to sleep but Tim can be really funny at times. Many of his jokes fly over people's head but his jokes keep'd me awake. Best Pick for Bio 1 @ Mt. Sac!
I love Tim. Bio 2 is hard no matter who you take it with, but don't take it with Mark. He's so down to earth and easy to talk to. Just a really great guy. I took his class and was getting a C, he advised me to drop and retake the class. Got an A the 2nd time around. Memorize everything EARLY. If I did that, I wouldn't have had to drop the 1st time
I took Tim's BIO 1 online class. It was a very good class. His lecture explained everything for you. Maybe a few of the lectures were long with lot of stuffs, made you feel confused. Just read them again and again then you would understand it! Make sure you study your lecture very well weekly, quizzes are taken before labs! EXTRA CREDITS, A LOT!
I took Tim online class 2018. As long as you come to class, do all lecture online, discussion board and lab homework you will pass. Quiz every week before lab class. Lab is done in groups. Some of the lectures are length, but worth it at the end. Study for all quizzes/mid term. Take advantage of all extra credit, especially in the Stem Center.
I highly recommend taking him! There are quizzes every week which include lecture + lab. Make sure you double check on your test grades to see if everything is marked correctly. There are times where his answer keys were wrong, therefore it mark your correct answer wrong. 1 point makes a HUGE difference between a failed test and a passing one.
Tim is an easy going person. He has good sense of humor. He is also organized with things that needs to be done in class, as far as lab work, there was a lot, but easy to do, very interactive, made time go faster. Plenty of reading . Mandatory to know the material, pay attention to his lectures as anyone should otherwise you will not pass the class.
Took Tim's class in Fall '18. Tim is a very good professor/cares for his students. Lab practicums require large amt of info memorized. Lecture exams are from his slides. Bio 2 is hard if you fall behind. Put in the work EARLY & you'll get an A. Go to SI coaching in the beginning (game changer). 2 lecture exams, 5 quizzes, 5 lab exams, 1 final.
He is very passionate about Biology and gives really funny and interesting lectures. There is very little homework but some reading assignments. His exams and quizzes are hard so be prepared and study hard. Overall an awesome professor would definitely take again.
Spring 2019. Very hard class. Made lots of funny stories that made you feel good. Very hard to keep up with. Study nonstop. Studying will destroy you. Go to coaching. Lecture exams are semi difficult. STUDY EVERYTHING!!!
Tim is a wonderful professor. He really goes out of his way to explain everything about bio 2. This class taken with anyone is very difficult but is completely possible to pass. Show up to labs and lectures, study your butt off, and participate in coaching. Tim is always there to help!
Tim is a great professor. Make sure to use your time wisely when doing the packets that he gives. His policies are straightforward and expects you to study your butt off when taking this class. Do not slack off, do the packets, go to SI, or coaching. If you do all of these then you'll be fine. Don't forget to ask questions because that helped a lot
Amazing professor, very challenging class, boatloads of material to study every week. Finish the packets ASAP, and start studying 2 weeks before the practicum to make sure you're solid.
Tim Revell is without a single doubt the greatest professor I have taken at Mt. SAC. Anyone who blames Tim for how hard the class is, is honestly in the wrong major. Tim will literally go out of his way to give you the help that you need and support you as much as possible. Trust me, you will not regret taking Tim for Bio 2, or any Bio class.
I was Tim's T.A for Bio 1 for about 2 years and saw the behind the scenes of how he teaches his class. It doesn't matter what you get on the exams or the labs, as long as you're putting in the work, Tim will help you as much as you need to get an A. Like seriously, this dude is also funny af and always down to chat about anything!
I was low-key nervous to take this class, even with Tim cause it was so different than the Bio courses I'd taken before, but damn this class was genuinely a breeze with how Tim taught it. The lectures are pretty light hearted, the travel is really fun, and the exams are extremely straightforward. Put in the work, reach out to Tim, and easy A.
He is an amazing professor. Tries to keep the class fun and actually cares for his students. Show up and read lectures and you will do good.
This class is definitely difficult but you have all the answers and just need to put in the time and effort. Professor Revell made the class fun and interesting!
Good class to take. Lecture is straight forward and there is a coach to help.
Cares about students and puts in effort.
The class requires readings and a lot of material. You need to make sure to keep up but quizzes are fair game. Lab is important on quizzes too.
This class is material heavy and need readings to keep up but it is a great foundation if you are a biology major!
Would take this professor again.
Professor Revell is a good professor, he is very clear on the work you need to do. There are readings for lecture but it is straightforward. He also is very approachable if you have questions.
Lecture is online, so you have to read his lectures alone and then take a quiz on it in class. The quizzes are from lecture, so as long as you read you are good. Lab was in person and where you took the quizzes. Lab was a little confusing but you could always ask questions. Lab was also on the quizzes.
Lecture isn't bad however lab is definitely tough! You have practicums that require ALOT of memorizing. Professor Revell makes this class fun though! He really cares about his students and makes the class not so bad.
Biology is not my string suit. However, if you apply yourself in this class you should be fine. Hes kinda corny but means well. I honestly was borderline F and I believe he gave me a passing grade just because he probably felt bad lol I appreciate it though (Bio is not my major anyway) I would recommend this professor!
The class is hard, the professor is great. 2 lecture exams, 5 practicums, 2 field trips, 12 quizzes (12 dropped). You will not do well in this class if you don't start early. Do not procrastinate, do well on your first practicums and lecture exams. Final exam replaces lowest pract and lecture exam. Up to 50 pts ec. Pretty easy if you study well.
Great and fun professor! The quizzes can be hard tho!
Revell is a an enigma. He gives a quiz weekly which is on both lecture and lab with parts from the lab book. Sometimes when he's rambling he's actually giving you answers for next weeks TEST! A lot of people ignore what he says and then blame him when they do bad. His class is super difficult, but there is a tutor Perla who helps. lots of EC
If you are considering an easy physical science, then take marine bio-BIOL 20. Makes zoom meetings mandatory but are normally short and concise. He may ramble on sometimes, but he is light-hearted and loves biology. Assignments are generally easy and quizzes are open notes. Mid-term and final's are ALSO open notes. If you get Revell, you are set.
Professor Revell is very easy going. If you were to miss a test you could easily make it up by doing the simple extra credit that he offers. Although he requires mandatory zoom meetings every week there usually just a hour long if not less. If your looking for a easy class with barely any homework Professor Revell is the man.
The class is extremely time consuming and difficult. So if you wanna pass get ready to study countless hours. The good thing is you'll know a lot about nature after taking this class :) In regards to the professor he isn't the brightest person, not very good at articulating, but luckily most learning is done when you are studying not in class time.
The class is very engaging and interesting, however the professor could be a lot better. He is not very good.
I liked the course, however I think the professor could have been a lot better. He doesn't seem to be very mature or professional.
The class was actually pretty fun and interesting I really liked it! However the professor is just not good. He is pretty scatter brain and unclear at times
His lectures are interesting and at time is very engaging, he also gives extra credit. But sometimes he says false information, which is one main issue I have with him. Just make sure you fact check his agenda, he isn't the brightest guy
The class could have been taught better, I don't think he is the best person to be teaching.
Overall, he is a very good professor in my honest opinion. It takes works but if you study you will do well.
The class could not have been taught better, He is the best person to be teaching.
I took this professor for Biology 3 - Field Biology and Ecology. This was an excellent class and I learned a lot. Lots of fun and you will do well if you work hard, study, turn in your assignments, and attend all the field trips.
The class is very hard, the professor is great. 2 lecture exams, 5 practicums, 2 field trips, 12 quizzes (12 dropped). You will not do well in this class if you don't start and often.
Excellent class but you have to study and work hard. Those complaining are too busy to put in the work.
Professor Tim is just an overall good guy, his lectures are very informative with it being an online course. The quizzes may be annoying but manageable. During the weekly meeting, he explains everything so overall good professor!
Professor Tim is just awesome! The way he lectures is very informative with it being an online course. The quizzes may be annoying but doable. During the weekly meeting, he explains everything so overall awesome professor!
Excellent class and Professor Revell is very good. Make sure you attend all the field trips and turn in all the assignments.
Prof. Revell is amazing! I'm not the most disciplined student and had a lot of struggles going on at the time. He was very patient and understanding and while not cutting any corners, he created a great environment for me to learn in, which made all of the difference to my success. I would take him again in a heartbeat, I learned a lot.
just put in the work and you'll get an A. Everyone complaining thinks there's an easy way out in this course. It all matters if you want it or not. Revell is a great prof, caring and kind.
Professor Revell (Tim) is an awesome biology professor and his bio 3 class is the best. It's a decent amount of work but it is a LOT of fun and you learn and a lot of great information and you go on some amazing field trips.
Taken online over the Winter. Lectures were posted as videos so they were extremely accessible. Zooms were required and that is how he took attendance. Exams and quizzes were fairly easy as you have the lectures available at all times. One opportunity to submit lots of extra credit at the end of the course. Recommend he is a great professor.
Prof Tim is a compassionate and humorous professor who captivates students in every lecture. He cares for all his students ensuring the success of each of them in his class. Despite the challenges and difficulties of Bio 2, Prof Tim's teaching make the class truly rewarding and enjoyable.
Prof. Revell (Tim) is awesome!! The class is not difficult, but does require participation. But that is not a problem because this course is probably the most fun class you can take at Mt.Sac. The field trips are amazing and you will make amazing memories that will last a lifetime. Great Professor, made awesome new friends, overall fun class 10/10
Very nice Professor. Quick response time. He says he took over BIOL 25 from Sherry Schmidt. So the course content is her work, or is based on her work. You can expect to spend 20 hours per week in a Semester or 42-62 hours per week in an Intersession. Since his quizzes and exams are open note, fill out the provided material and you shouldn't fail.
If you love the OUTDOOR Adventures. Take this Class! I enjoyed the field trips and is all paid by the school and the Palms to Pines trip was a memory experience and fun. Some activities you do pay, First couple of weeks class is difficult but after that the work is easy. I will definitely take this class again just for the field trips.
Super nice dude who I actually learned and had fun a lot in Biology
FAVORITE professor! Will have him again for bio25, bio2, and maybe bio20 if I don't like my next prof! Lectures are VERY engaging and casual, sometimes funny topics come up. Field trips required but fun! I LOVED insect pinning and all the extra credit I had made me go up 5%. Hardest thing is practicum at end, still got A. I want to be a spring TA!
He is an amazing professor and his lectures are interesting. His class requires a camp trip and for lab we are mostly outside, so if you don't like that don't take him. Study for the exams and practicums and you will be FINE, they are not that difficult!!! You would have to force yourself to dislike the class. Attendance is extremely important!!
Don't be fooled by other reviews. Lectures are poorly structured, with most time spent on grades and ramblings. Material is rushed, outdated, and focused on memorization. Lab is the same study by yourself. Office hours are unreliable, exams are surprising. Many students are retaking it. I withdrew at the last minute; I didn't want to waste time.
Dr. Revell is absolutely amazing. You do have to put in the work to try to get the good grade you want. I definitely like how he shared his YouTube videos with us to be able to understand the course material. Grade is based on a variety of assignments. Quizzes can be a bit difficult. Overall, he's a great professor. There's a lot to learn.
It is Biology, Its gonna be a really hard class with a lot of memorization. Be prepare to spend ALOT of time but overall study and your will be ok. Labs are okay, you take pictures of everything that you need from the lab and then head home, but I wouldn't recommend that Id stay through the lab and do the work there to be able to ask prof.
This is a very difficult class but the professor is awesome if you do the work and study.
Very interesting subject and the professors seems pretty good at delivering the content at about the right level.
This class is definitely challenging, but Professor Tim is not a difficult professor at all. In fact, he's one of the best professors I've ever had. He's super funny, really patient. He always takes the time to explain things clearly, never gets annoyed with questions, and responds to emails fast. If you're willing to work hard, you'll learn a lot.
Back again having Tim for Bio2! I did a Bio3 review in the past and I am indeed a Bio3 TA. Flashcards! That's all you need. His Bio2 is supposed to be a lil like university classes, leaving all the work for you to do yourself (he has told me this himself!) Be sure to make quizlets that contain EVERY ounce of info and you will be totally fine.
Truly one of the most welcoming professors I've ever had. The content that he posts is easy to grasp and study, and the workload is light. Zoom attendance is required, but they're usually short and sweet, with him answering any questions at the end. If you need to take any of his listed classes, I 100% recommend him.
Bio 2 isn't a hard class just a lot of memorization. Practicum questions are given before hand in lab packets and the best way to study is not to memorize but to know concepts. There is a lot of information but if you start studying early enough, you will be fine. Lecture exams are a little harder but he gives extra credit to help boost grades!!!
One of the best prof! Overall he is very straightforward about what he includes on the exams. There are 9 exams, so this class takes a lot of time. He offers lots of extra credit. The final exams are TOUGH, but don't even have to be taken if you do well enough early on. Overall I definitely recommend!!
The practicums are exactly from the lab packets. Memorize the packets and you'll do just fine. His lectures are really fun and engaging. He also makes it a point to connect with each student which is amazing. Offers a lot of help and advice and wants to help his students do their best. Amazing professor :)
Hands down the best class that I have had at Mt.SAC, despite my not being a very outdoorsy person, the professor did his best to accommodate my needs and helped me on so many occasions in class and out. I would say that the class is quite difficult compared to the other courses, but it is completely worth it as it pushes you to learn!
Bio2 is inherently a difficult class, with packets reaching up to 60+ pages (which you do need to memorize). However, Professor Revell has a very clear grading criteria and will answer pretty much any question. He cares about his students and he is incredibly entertaining. Loved his class and I would definitely take him again! Take Revell!
