He should shift his exponential distribution over this way, I promise to be careful with his sensitivity curve
By far, easiest math professor I've ever had. His quizzes are a joke but are common. Gives three tests, all really easy if u do the webwork hw. Little scary looking always wears a cap and shades. Never seen his eyes before. Don't let that fool you though, he's a great guy.
Must admit he seems a bit weird at first, he wears sunglasses and a cap in class every day and never takes them off. But he's a really good professor, PAY ATTENTION, Calculus is hard! But if you work hard and try you'll do really well. I took Mordecai Friedman last semester, worst choice of my life, this guy is so much better!!
Did not help at all, very unclear with assignments and unfair with grading. Not recommended if you want to pass calc!
Explains the material very well, he is laid back, very patient to everyone, and such a great guy! Every time I had difficulties with something I emailed him and he responded shortly after with explanations and solutions to the problem. Gives an easy weekly quiz. I definitely would have taken him if he taught Calc, but unfortunately he doesn't.
He is a very laid back and chill guy. Extremely helpful after class and office hours when you don't understand something. He seemed somewhat strange at first, but nice when you get to know him. His teaching style difficult to understand at first, but you get used to it. Overall, calculus was a fun and enjoyable class.
Tim is a good teacher, but not great. Most of the time I was lost while he was teaching because his teaching style isn't the best. He's not the worst, but not the best either. One great thing is if you have a problem with homework and you email him, he will give you a detailed response that will help you.
He is a super awesome professor! His class is easy to understand. He tries to explain everything in a way that we can understand best. The homework and assignments are very helpful. Quiz and test isn't very hard, but is not that easy, either
He's a cool dude. Tests are a big portion of your grade (about 85% including final). Homework is helpful. If you email him a bunch of questions you don't get, he'll email you the explanations and answers. Highly recommended.
Best professor ever! Class was never boring and he is extremely helpful!
He is a super nice professor. You can be friend with him. His class is easy to understand. When you have any question after class, email him, he gonna explain everything to crystal clear
Easy going professor. His teaching method is a bit different from others. Weekly quiz and 3 exams + final. Very clear and fast email response if you have a question. Wish I could've study more for the final,
Awesome professor. He's very patient and explains calc in a clear, understandable way. Responds to emails really quickly and will extend his office hours if needed. One of the best math teachers I ever had.
Best Math teacher of my life, failed this course twice before with two other professors. Tim helped me understand the material made it very easy to understand
TiM is a solid math professor. He somehow manages to make advanced calculus moderately easy (or easier). The Math department doesn't allow grading on a curve, TiM seems to recognize this and give students additional opportunities to supplement their grades (via additional homework or extra credits). Highly recommend!
Terrific class with him. Super helpful and made me actually understand the materials!
really amazing professor. he really explains everything in depth and gives you a general understand WHY the material is important. his quizzes are so easy and so are his tests. just watch out because his final is departmental so it might be harder than the midterm and quizzes he made himself.
He's a great professor, very easy to understand and explains everything clearly. Best Math professor I've ever taken since Algebra. He gives weeklybi weekly quizzes in between the exams to make sure you're up to dates, but he gives you near full points if you understand the material despite getting the answer wrong.
I love tim! He doesnt act like he is a professor. He always asks us to call him Tim. I would say there r kinda many hw and quizs and tests since i am very lazy person. he is one of the sweetest person i've ever seen!!!! So nice personality. He is a little bit shy but he is always nice to talk to. He is my second favorite pro. :)
Great professor.
Amazing professor, you WILL understand math if you take him. Easy going and approachable. The 3 tests and weekly quizzes are not that bad, beware of the departmental final though. Overall, he does a great job preparing for the final but visit SACC in addition to class.
TiM is one of the best Calculus professors you can take at Baruch. Only math class i've ever taken were barely anyone drops. He is always open to questions during office hours and emails back right away. This guy is dedicated to what he does.
Tim is the BEST mathematics professor. Strongly recommended. He explains materials very clearly, always available to help, nice & gentle, grades very fast, definitely not a boring math prof, etc. etc.
Tim is the absolute best! Had lots of office hours and was really committed to helping students understand. Never makes you feel stupid for asking a question, and explains it slowly and clearly. Generous with partial credit and writes on your exams how to fix your mistakes for next time. Super helpful and chill guy. Best math prof I ever had.
Tim was awesome I probably would email him 50 times before an exam and he would always reply. Always helped me understand took it with another prof. Last semester and failed bc they would never slow down to explain anything but Tim is the man, helped me understand math like never before best professor ever!
He's not only an exquisite professor but, truly a great guy. I received an A in his class and then failed the final and unfortunately had to receive an F. I took the class over A semester later with a different professor as his class was full, and he continued e-mailing me when I had any calculus questions. Truly goes above and beyond to help you.
Great math professor! Amazing lectures and help after classes. He is a TEACHER from God!
His directions are smooth to comprehend and tests are relevant to the lecture materials. He is extremely helpful and always willing to help out students with questions. He is knowledgeable, and one of the nicest professor I've ever had in Baruch College. I truly learned a lot and enjoyed his class. I most strongly recommend his class- No Doubt.
This professor is truly one of the best professors I've ever had in my life. He goes above and beyond to help every one of his students. And he also makes lectures completely understandable. This course however is not an Easy A, you still have to work hard and prepare for the final. 3 exams, but he provides practice ones almost similar to actual
TiM is really smart, and he's really willing to go the extra mile for his students. He was super responsive to emails, staying after class, and answering any questions. The material was tough, and I definitely worked hard in the class. He gave a little extra credit, though, which was nice.
Teaches the class using his knowledge, instead of from the textbook. Includes side-notes when giving examples. Short homework that is easy to understand. Responds to email quickly. Recommended to those who failed MTH 2610 before.
The most helpful professor you will ever have. Available by email and in office hours. He is extremely intelligent and teaches using his knowledge. The tests are a little difficult but that is expected from a Calculus 1 course. Gives quizzes that get you prepared for the tests. Homeworks are online & have unlimited attempts. Definitely recommended.
I really liked Tim as a professor. He really tried to be there for you, gives clear feedback and is always available by email. I did really well on the first couple of tests but didn't do well on the last ones/final. The tests are difficult and cover a LOT of material for just one test. However, he is a wonderful professor!!
Tim is a great professor! He really wants everyone to do well, and is ALWAYS there for every single one of his students. You need to work hard for your grade, but it's calc- a difficult subject, no matter the teacher. Study hard and use his office hours!
He legit cares for his students and does everything in his power to help you pass the insanely hard final.
Tim is the BEST math professor I've ever taken. He teaches so well and explains everything if you don't understand. He always sends emails and responds very quickly. A quiz every week but they are straight forward and are only like 4 problems. He pushes people to pass. TAKE HIM and hurry because his classes fill up quickly. Fear Calculus no more.
if you want to learn and pass take Tim, he makes sure you understand each topic
This was my third time taking this class in Baruch College, and when I was given the last option to taking it with TIm. I took the opportunity immediately, and I do not regret it to this day. Make sure you attend all of his lectures, go to his office hours, because he really cares about his students. Cool glasses :)
Tim is the best math professor, I'm not good at math and he made calc easy for me. He answers emails quickly and he's in office hours longer then it's set for. Definitely take him
TiM is a great professor. He knows his material really well and always available outside and in the class. Try to pay attention during his lectures and really be present. I didn't open a book for a whole semester and studied his notes before the tests . He is nice and helpful. Great experience. Thanks TiM!
If I could give rate him a million stars, I would. He's definitely a gem at Baruch. He's always so happy, which is refreshing. You would never hate going to class. He's very lenient and he teaches really slowly so that everyone understands the concepts for the final. It's not impossible to get an A in the class. He's da best!
I could not have asked for a better teacher. Not a single flaw with him. Every class is fun and full of laughter, and not only the class I was in, but I also was in his other class momentarily, and everyone seemed happy as well. He is completely honest, even when he disagrees with Baruch, makes jokes, encourages communication. It really doesn't get better A+
Best math professor at Baruch. I have taken others and he is by far the best at what he does. Really helpful and always goes over things if you ask. Great class. This was summer 2016. If you can take him I would strongly recommend that you do. I was not very strong in math and he helped me score 28 out of 35 correct on the departmental final.
He is a bit strange at first, but when you know him better you will love him. Tim is a really nice professor. I give him A++++. Make sure you attend all his lectures, and take note. I never read book but I study his note before every quiz and test. It really helps. Just take his class you will not regret. Tim is the best. Great summer with him!
Took TiM in spring '16. This was my 3rd time taking this class and I couldn't have asked for a better professor. I actually switched professors last min on the first day of class to get into TiM's class. He is so helpful and really makes you understand calc, he's always available by email or you can go to his office hrs. Pay attention, calc is hard
Absolutely fantastic professor. Great lectures, makes very complicated material easy to understand. Always helps with all the hardships you face. Smart and excellent way of teaching. The best teacher I've ever had in Baruch. Very helpful, available through the emails. Gives extra credit if you do all homeworks.
By far far far the best professor i ve had at Baruch!!! He is extremely smart and it shows in the way he is able to explain any concept even to a 5th grader.
This review is a bit overdue but Tim saved my life. This guy explained not only the formulas but the meaning behind them. Really explained everything from beginning to end. I failed the 1st time w. some guy but Tim made me forget that nightmare. I got an A- (missed a few hws) if you put in the work you will pass!!! He is always there for you!
Lots of online home work but that's what the department chooses. He is very good at his job. He is a good teacher and if you ask questions he will make it easy to understand. He grades with extra credit and looks thoroughly, his test are fair so you should study class notes and homework. Definitely take his class you will pass.
Best professor in the math department. He stays extra time just to help you with your question. He really for his student. If he didn't, then he would of not stay after hour just to help. He has patients with all of his student even if you ask the most ridiculous question. You won't ever feel like you are embarrassing your. He also gives worksheets
TiM is by far the BEST Mathematics professor I have ever had the pleasure of taking. He thoroughly knows his material and effectively conveys it in an understandable manner. Moreover, he cared so much that he responded to each and every single one of my emails, thoroughly and expeditiously. TiM is a genius and embodies the epitome of professorship
Yo Tim is awesome man. He has long majestic colorful hair and his glasses be on point. He explains concepts like so chill, recommend!
By far he is the best out of all professors I took at Baruch!
TiM is as genius as most other Baruch Math professor, but teaching requires a whole set of another skills. TiM exemplifies the passion in young professors who are dedicated to deliver the SUPER clear lecture, and intuitive(slow and clear) explanations. Meanwhile, the leniency in exam grading is as appreciated as the way he gives lecture.
4010 is hard no matter what, but I think Tim does an excellent job teaching it, he gives good amount of hw and hard enough to make your head spin. Replies to emails pretty quick and always offering to help. His office was always full of people asking. Great professor.
Amazing professor! Learned so much about mth 4010. I would take any math class with him again. Advanced calc was difficult but this professor made it clear as possible.
TiM is one of the best math professors in the department. He teaches well and makes sure u understand each topic. He goes over examples in class that resemble a lot like those on the exams. Hes funny and replies quickly to emails. Amazing
Gives past tests, do every single one for a guaranteed A. Make sure to get a firm grasp of annuities. Most struggled on that midterm and FM exam is filled with them. Try to use a financial calculator early on, it's annoying trying to learn how to use it after being so used to a graphing calculator. The real FM exam gives no formula sheet.
mediocre, material is tough!
Honestly, TiM is one of the best math professors I've ever seen. He's always willing to explain the thought behind everything he teaches instead of making you just memorize everything. Very clear and willing to help when you need it. Offers a ton of extra credit so he doesn't drop the lowest quiz. I would definitely recommend him for pre calc.
Not an Easy A, very difficult course. Wouldn't recommend as minor capstone but if its your major you have to take it. Learned alot in this class but at the expense of my gpa. Tests were alot harder than the hw and lecture examples. I can't hate him though because he honestly cares and is a good guy, he's just too hardcore and fast paced.
Tim is the nicest professor. He gives quizzes often but they don't count for a huge portion of your grade. They help you prepare and he tells you what will be on them. Super nice, always there to help and explain questions during office hours or via email. Explains everything very thoroughly!
TiM is a very good teacher. He explains everything very clearly and slowly. He helps us learn exactly what we needed to know. The tests and quizzes are very hard. You have to study a lot to understand what is going on. But TiM is good at explaining any concepts you do not get. He responds to emails quick and is caring. I would def take him again.
TiM is great at explaining things and this was no exception for his R class this winter. You could tell that this was the first time that he and Professor Gregory were teaching it, but it was very helpful and they did a great job at conveying the material. A must take if you want to learn R programming!
Greatest Professor!!! I took his Linear Algebra in summer. He teaches hard stuffs in an easy way!!! I can't love him more! Every quiz and final has extra credits. I finally got 103 points over 100 in the class. Clear grading rules: quiz 1(12%), quiz 2-4(16% each), final(35%), online homework(5%). Take him and boom your GPA!
TiMothy Ridenour is by far, one of the best of anyone I have ever seen, master their craft. As a professor, your sole function is to make learning easier and as a result, inspire students with whatever subject you're teaching. TiM, does beyond that, and makes math, not only more feasibly easier to learn, but he makes it fun. Key Difference: FUN.
Great professor, knows the material by heart and truly is accessible outside of class. Extends office hours and has a great heart in educating those who seek aid and help. He truly rewards those who want to succeed and learn the material. He is highly respected in the math department because they know how much TiM is cherished by student as a prof.
TiM is a wonderful professor. He immensely cares about his students and is always there for them. He's also incredibly intelligent but in no way shows off or makes you feel dumb. He teaches math in a way that you feel confident going into higher level material but also understand the basics. If you have a chance, take him. You won't regret it.
Tim is an awesome professor. He is always willing to help students and gives ample time for students to do hw. Best professor because he really knows what he is doing.
There are not words that do justice for how amazing TiM is, you won't find anyone more funny, caring, or knowledgeable. Classes are enjoyable and he explains things in a clear and intuitive manner. Not an easy grade, but you will learn alot and he is always there for you. He is in his office 5 hours a day should you ever need help. Inspirational!
One of the best professor in Baruch. Gives lecture notes, past exams and clear explanation to any questions, so you do well on the quests and final. Responds to emails fast and is easily accessible outside of class. 11/10 would definitely recommend
To get an A in this class, you will need to be in your A-game. To get high grades on his Quests: Practice the True/False questions in the main textbook "Linear Algebra Done Wrong," do his webworks, and suggested problems. The Final Exam is straightforward, but he is very theoretical. I am glad I hired a tutor to do exceptionally well in this class.
THE BEST MATH TEACH I HAVE EVER HAD!!! Clear explaination. Everything is based on past exams. Study, ask questions, do last year exams. You will be fine
Hands down best math prof I've ever had
If you're one of those people that just want an easy A, then don't take this guy. For me, this class was extremely challenging, relatively fun, and time consuming. This class was more work than the 3 other math courses I was taking combined. If you're really looking to learn and be challenged, you'll enjoy this course with Tim as I did.
Challenging course, but worth it. You will learn a lot and Tim responds very quickly to questions.
I wish there was a Zero Button. Dont be fooled by the positive reviews. If you want to actually learn something and not easy A get somebody else.
Ive lost respect for tim. This class unbearable. There was never a rest bite, at least one quiz, test, work sheet, hw due every single day of the of the course. Beyond that, he made the problems extremly computetional and time consuming. He focus so much of the syllabus on pricing wild crazy options. There were no curves. dont take tim!
Took Linear Algebra with him over the summer. Very theoretical. He only curves your final letter grade one grade up. Definitely not a summer course. I also would not recommend him.
Taking linear algebra in the summer is extremely intense, no matter the professor. He gives a quiz and test every week along with hw up to 10 problems. He is theoretical which can be hard to understand sometimes. Personally, it was very difficult, but if you get things quickly and are willing to push yourself, go for it. Fall sem. may be easier
I took TiM for the summer semester. There were weekly quizzes and "quests" (mini-exam) that mostly resembled the HW and in-class practice problems. However, TiM puts semi-difficult abstract true/false questions on ALL quests (20% - 25% of the exam). The final was more difficult but if you understood the theory it should be an easy 95. TAKE HIM!
I recommend you not to take this class during the summer. This class is easy if it wasnt a five-week summer session. Please take it during the spring or the fall semester. Every week he gives us a mini test and a quiz. The mini-tests are a big percentage of our final grade. He takes attendance. he doesnt give us enough time to study for the quizzes
I can only recommend this professor to someone who asks a lot of questions and is hard working. If you do take him, It will be extremely helpful if you also watch some online linear algebra videos as it will help you understand the concepts, only then the calculations part will make sense to you thus you can do okay in the numerous exams, quizzes.
He is a very caring professor to those who are willing to ask questions. Make sure you pay attention during class and go to office hours to do well on homework assignments. The exams are lecture-heavy, but if you really want to do well, self-studying by watching videos or reading the textbook is the key to getting an A.
Basically, my only passing grades were the homework since the homework helper bot on MyMathLab was the only actual "good teacher" I had in the class. This professor makes countless mistakes in his work, rushes through everything, and those 1-3 question quizzes make you drop your grade lower and lower. I couldn't take enough of him - dropped class.
Tim's lectures were not for me, but his note were very well written. So I studied his notes. While doing the WebWork assignments I could generally figure out what to do. But if I was ever stuck I would email him and he would generally respond quickly. His tests were pretty hard but generally easier than the practices he gave for them and the hw.
AMAZING PROFESSOR. Makes the material understandable for just about any person. If you're taking this class in the summer and want to do well, get ready to make this class a priority. My recommendation is to review the lecture notes after every class and try the suggested problems. The suggested problems had some good theory practice.
A beautiful man teaching beautiful math. Tim is a gift to this world and Baruch College. Fair grader; generous with partial credit. Be prepared to put in the work, this course will take up a substantial amount of time. Then again, if you're taking linear algebra over the summer, you either love math or are desperate, so this shouldn't be an issue.
He's nice but explains things in a very complicated way. Very generous with course grading and final exam grade. HW for every topic you learn but theyre not really like his quiz/ test questions. Summer term grading: Quiz 1 12%, Quiz 2-4 48%, Homework 10%, Final 30%. You need to devote a lot of time to this course, rewriting lect notes helped a lot.
Terrible Professor, doesn't curve nor provide a review sheet for exams(puts whatever he wants on the exams). Doesn't even calculate test averages for class(from my own calculations around 60). Extra credit is on the exams where you don't even have enough time to finish(one time he gave us an extra hour to do the exam and still couldn't finish).
Regret taking his class, feel I wasted my time. I have a strong GPA and have experience with harder math classes, had to drop a class for the 1st time. Abstract exams, no curve. He is aware of the poor performance on his exams and refuses to even calculate a class average. He is a nice person, but a careless teacher. Take him at your own risk.
The goat in the oakleys. Linear algebra over the summer is tough, but TiM makes all the work well worth it. His lectures are pretty abstract, but will ultimately give you a much stronger understanding of the material. If you put in the time and effort you will do well. He cares a lot about teaching and makes himself available if you have questions.
the worst professor i've ever had. apparently his first year teaching math 3150. he doesnt explain the course well the youtube professor do a better job. his test and homework dont reflect in class examples. He speaks in a hard to understand language if you've never learned advance math and ALWAYS goes over time. please dont take.
Nice person and the opposite for being a professor.
I hate proofs. So this class is tough for me, and the final was very brutal. Good person, good professor for teaching the material, but Linear Algebra is a hard subject. Brace yourself for harsh grading because of math notation and sometimes excessively brutal tests.
MTH4100 with Tim is no easy feat, but his dedication to teaching makes it worthwhile. Utilize resources like Unstuck AI alongside the free textbook, and you'll be set for success.
