Great teacher! Always positive and with a smile on his face! Also very funny and not afraid to joke about himself. The lessons are mostly powerpoint presentations. Very helpful and would like everybody to get a good grade. Human geography is a very interesting class and with Tim it gets even more interested!
Awesome teacher. Funny guy. His power point presentations were really helpful
Material like an elementary school class. Basic and easy. He is a nice and witty guy however who tries to make class interesting.
He is one if not the best teacher at Green River. The man can lecture like no other. Thats a good thing because he is hilarious. Everyone should take his class once. This is my last quarter at the college and I will be taking his class for the third time.
He is certainly passionate about his suject. For the most part I enjoyed his lectures. Tests were a bit hard though.
He is such a dear!!! and super humble in person. he's a great guy and he knows what's up in his field. Great Professor!
very good
this teacher is one of the best. he is genuinely passioniate about geography and is a teacher who doesn't mind giving those extra few moments to explain. take his class, he gives interesting facts.
ThIS GUY IS COOL... Great teacher...
Very funny guy. He has a great experience and has been to almost every place of the world. Quizzes and assignments are easy, tests sometimes a bit tough, but you get a study guide for everything. Try him!
The material was bedtime material. It beats counting sheep and ranks as easy. Tests, assignments and quizzes were simple. While Tim is well versed in the subject he was a bit abrasive, and at times down-right condescending to students. Bit of a jerk but the class was easy and useful. Failure impossible if you show up. Just ignore the snide remarks.
Really great teacher. Fun guy and knows his stuff. Has traveled around the world and takes an interest in students learning. Tells you exactly what will be on the tests, and had a really interesting final project. I recommend his human geography over physical...but take the class regardless!
I think he is a good teacher if that is a face-to-face class. However, I took his online class and that was pain in the ass. He was always behind grading the homework. And the assignments were super long and difficult. The final exam wasn't online but in Testing center. That just doesn't make sense. What kind of online class was that!!!
Tim was an awesome teacher! Very funny during lectures and makes the material interesting and fun. He seems to know a lot about what he is talking about and we had great discussions in class. Expect some pop quizzes, 2-3 major assignments, and a couple of tests. Easy class! As Tim would say, "When you're a fish, you're the last to see the ocean!"
Really funny and helpful. He made a boring class interesting. He picks his favorites to jokingly pick on in the class, but a really good teacher!
I took his online class and it was terrible. though I like how he gives us a week to complete and assignment, he grades pretty tough. If you accidently forget to cite for one question, he fails you for that assignment. I got a 0/20 and it sucks to know that I worked hard on all those questions and get a 0 for it. Dont take his online class.
He's seriously a funny and tight dude. I legit hated every other teacher I had at this school except him. He's coo.
Cool guy. Somewhat nonspecific on the main projects partly because he wanted us to be creative and do it our own way. No book but seasons 1-3 of the Wire. Inappropriate show & requires 4 episodes per week plus regular homework. Lots of time but if you like the Wire you'll love this class. Discussion posts online, final project, & "field" project.
the projects were annoying and burdensome but not that difficult to do. he is overall cool guy. some of his lectures are very interesting and some are boring.
COOL GUY, NICE QUALITY, BUT THES IS A LITTLE DIFFICULT
In person he is nice but if you've never met him he can sound condescending when giving online feedback. I don't think he means to sound like that. Textbook is free online so don't buy one. Weekly quizzes, no midtermfinal. Particular grader because he likes things written a certain way but once you get used to it, the class is super easy.
Really hilarious and passionate about geography. Try to make jokes all the time
Geog&100 online was a very interesting course and discovers the basic content of Geography as a social science. No explicit midterms or finals, just a good amount of weekly research, quiz, and some short-essay writing. Takes about 2-3 hours every day. Big plus is online textbook, nicely trimmed down to the principles without bloating. BIG LIKE!
While Tim shows a definite interest in Geography, he's not particular the most helpful instructor or good instructor. There were a couple of assignments that were unclear, particularly in the midweeks. There were a couple of assignments where the majority of students failed, and it feels like he's falling behind on the work load
WORST teacher ever!!!!!
Do not take his online class. Tough and vague grading system.
Do not take him. Worst online teacher I have had yet. He has a free online book that he wrote himself that the assignments are based off of. The book is VERY unclear and not specific. It is so difficult to answer questions with such poorly written information. Not to mention, finding information else where is not allowed.
Tim has extremely clear guidelines and the weekly assignments are easy if you read through his textbook. No tests in geog100. Grades fair. Great sense of humor.
As long as you pay attention in class and take notes, you should be fine. While he does make study guides, he uses it just as a guideline -- what he says in lectures helps more than anything. You might need to read the book if you miss a day. Pretty funny and consistent.
This class is pretty easy as long as you pay attention. Scharks is cool, and his instructions are pretty clear cut. There were 10 assignments and no tests. Textbook is free and online. If you read carefully and pay attention to what the questions are actually asking, there is no reason to fail this class.
He is a really nice professor. Amazing lecture and funny jokes. His tests are very tough. You need to read the textbook carefully, and pay attention to his lectures. He gives study guide, but lectures are more important. He is really helpful. If you visit his office to ask questions, he always loves to answer.
No homework at all. Just take tests and that's your grade. He gives AMAZING lectures and shows his enthusiasm towards geography. People complain it's hard just because they did not read the book at all and did not work hard enough. As long as you pay attention in class, you should be fine.
I enjoyed being in this class. Tim is funny and a little quirky. Though, this class was ALL lecture, I didn't ever find it boring. You have to attend regularly and read a chapter a week from the book to understand everything. Your grade will rely solely on three tests that are not easy at all. If you don't come to class, you will fail.
It's not a easy class at all. The book is not difficult and no final BUT quizzes are so tough and critical, you must notice to every word in book!!! You are not allowed to ask many questions and when you ask for more feedback you will hear the same explanation in his textbook. Plz consider this class needs lots of effort and time....
Grade is based solely off of weekly quizzes. There isn't a lot of reading material but the quizzes are very nit-picky. He's very critical of the short word answers. I never received any *helpful* feedback, all his feedback felt degrading. Material isn't interesting either.
the only bad thing I can say about him is that he talk fast, like real fast so just something to consider. Other than that, he is funny, nice, he answers all my question thoroughly. Most of the things he tested are in the book and in his lecture.
Great professor. Tends to make jokes that aren't funny but we give him pity laughs as a response anyways. Nice guy.
I took his online Geography 120 class. I couldn't finish it. He would tell us to get the answers out of the text then tell us we plagiarized when we got them. Some of the google earth assignments wouldn't give us enough information to answer the question. He seemed like a nice guy but the class was drooling. Do not recommend the online class.
He is an excellent teacher at Green River College and is there to help you with questions and helps you understand the assignment. His assignments are on Canvas. He made his own textbook by hand from other textbooks that he understands. In the assignments he asks some essay questions and multiple choice. I would take him again.
I remember Tim in Hum/Phy Geography. I did all my Homework and handed it in on time with a fair score and he had the urge to give me a 0.8. I retook his class and bare in mind I knew what was going to come up and he still gave me a 1.3. He's just a bad teacher and unpleasant with grading. I took another teacher and i got 3.5. I do not recommend him
I really liked Tim Scharks style of teaching. This guy has a kind of special humor, but it was always funny. He is certainly very experienced and for example told us about his travel experiences in Tanzania or India, which was very intersting. Tests are multiple-choice based, so its quite easy to pass if you listen carefully during class.
Great teacher. I took an hybrid class of his and was surprised that not many people showed up. His lectures about the chapter really gives you an understanding of what it's about. Plus, he's very charismatic and straightforward. Awesome guy!
Tim was by far the best teacher I have encountered at Green River. I found Human Geography to be a very interesting class. His teaching style was very lecture heavy, but he talks fast and seems to have a true passion for the subject, so the lectures always kept me engaged. Though the tests were hard, he offered extra credit a few times!
One of my most fun profs at green river, would definitely take again. He did really cool video lectures where he hiked around and showed geographical locations, which we could all watch online.
Mr. Scharks was a really going teacher. His class was interesting and easy. As long as you show up and study for the tests you will easily pass his class. definitely recommend.
Time Scharks is about as good a professor you can get. His lectures are clear and engaging. He tells you exactly what you need to do to succeed. His tests are difficult but as long as you read the book amd write notes from his lectures you'll be fine. Would very much recommend Mr. Scharks
Nice guy, but will sometimes go on tangents for half the lecture. It's worth showing up - he's funny. Tests are on in class lectures, panaptos, AND textbook - study all or you won't do well on tests. Small daily activities give participation points, the rest is based on how you do on tests. I put test heavy bc of grading, there's few actual exams.
The class itself isn't difficult, but tests are awful. Tests are on 200 pages of material to read and he offers no study guide/clue of what will be on the test. The questions are so specific, and it's nearly impossible to get 100% no matter how hard you study. The average is usually about 63%. I don't recommend if you want to have a good gpa
Smart, funny(dad jokes) and accommodating professor. Super interesting topics. I would take this class again and recommend him to anyone. I highly recommenced participating in class discussions, it might get you places.
Professor Scharks is funny and is a great teacher. The main thing that determines your grade are the tests he gives. They aren't easy tests but if you study the key terms and attend regularly you shouldn't have any issue getting a good score on them. I would highly recommend this professor. Sit in the front for the best experience.
Tim is an anomaly. He's a very nice and funny guy (for sure gets some solid laughs from me) BUT you have to put in a legitimate effort to pass. He's grade and lecture heavy so you HAVE to show up for class. I've found the less I study the book and the more I study my class notes the better I do on tests. For the best experience sit in the front.
Best proff. His youtube is the best, those of you who will take should look at it. Great video to help. Very lenient and is great his teaching his subject, he really has passion for it.
One of the most ridiculous classes I've ever taken, with an unforgiving policy. He is not an understanding prof. and assumes that no one should ever make mistakes. If you take one of his courses, know you only get one chance on each assignment, test, and essay. No second chances. Ridiculous even for college standards.
Class is not good.
Save your GPA, avoid this course.
Hard course, but doable, pay attention, work hard, read the textbook, and take your time. Best of luck.
I would jump at the chance to take another class with Dr Sharks! He is passionate, knowledgeable and makes you work for your grade. He is not overly hard by all means, but he wants you to learn and retain the knowledge. His online labs were amazing, always making videos for us. I cant say enough good things. Tough, but tough with love and passion !
There's a lot of work you need to put into every week, and he has very high expectations for every piece of work you turn in. This is probably the class with the heaviest workload that I've taken at Green River so far (and I took it online). Class is hard to do well in if you don't read the txtbook and questions carefully.
I took his GEOG&100 online class, and despite not giving a rip about geology at all I really enjoyed his class. Lots of the lessons were in the form of YouTube videos he had recorded in some really cool places all over the world. Be prepared to read through the textbook, but for the GEOG&100 class, He is the author, so it's free and interesting.
I must say I love Mr. Scharks. He is the first professor that I have really liked and taken the time to give a positive rating to. The textbook for the course is completely free. And the reading is also very light. He has great YouTube videos that I recommend you watch. He wants you to get a good grade. But you have to do the work. Which isn't hard
Doesn't give you any good feedback even though you're paying hundreds of dollars to take his class. Literally has 5 assignments that determine your grade and is a super tough grader. Awful teacher.
Professor Scharks was genuinely amazing. He writes his own textbook and has traveled around the world, recording his lectures from different places. I've even subbed to his Youtube to see what he does next. His assignments are fairly straightforward, but his tests do sometimes seem a little extra difficult. I loved this class so much!
I do not recommend this professor. He has a lot of homework that takes more than 5 hours per week. He is a very tough grader with no, grade drops and his extra credit raise your grade only by less than a percent. He is very specific on how to complete the essays. You will fail if you make something not as he wanted. There are no second chances.
I would never take this professor again. He is very tough on grading, gives no second attempts on anything. And is very very specific on what he wants and if you don't do so you will fail.
This isn't really a problem of the professor himself, rather his assignments. Each week he gave us multiple choice questions that were so broad and could easily be one answer or another, which was highly frustrating. The teacher himself is cool I guess. I just really didn't like the way he worded his multiple choice questions, which hurt my grade.
Professor Scharks is great I ain't tryna glaze him but anybody telling you he ain't good is LYING bro is phenomenal steady looking out for his students. I ain't gon lie I did get caught cheating in his class but he still looked out for me and appreciated me telling the truth and gave me half credit on that assignment he a real one.
I had a Letter of Accommodation for this class and Professor Scharks was very understanding and communicative. The workload is ok, there is assignments from the textbook and a separate homework assignment (with lectures) that are both due on Sundays. However, he was slow on grading. Overall, he's a good professor that I would recommend to others!
Very committed to his class subject. Truly loves his work and tries to help his students. Would recommend it for those who have time. Definitely read the material because he has his students write a lot of essays on each chapter; like two or three essays per chapter. But overall, fair and interesting teacher.
Honestly, one of my favorite classes. Professor Scharks has clearly defined grading criteria and provided good feedback on our work. Each week was consistent in terms of assignments and he used YouTube videos from personal trips to teach us about the places he visited and to ask related questions which I thought was really cool.
I can't say that Tim Scharks is a tough grader. If you skip lectures and homeworks, passing this class or achieving a high grade will be challenging. All exams are based on material presented during Tim's lectures. He puts a lot of effort into teaching and wants you to learn. By the way, one of the best tutors that I've ever met at the GRC.
It's my absolute favorite class. Dr.Tim is very outgoing and extrovert, and sometimes gives student realistic advice, with helpful study tips, and compliments! During the class, he sometimes talks about his personal life, which the whole class loves :) My goal is to take all of his classes. :)
really nice person. Not a lot of wiggle room for grading. You have 3 tests that aren't to bad to study for. If you miss a couple points though it is hard to work your way back up. But he was very nice and tried to make it a good fun class.
He seems like a nice person but his online class is horrible. No lectures at all, you get all the information from reading a textbook. The finals and midterm are taken in person without notes so be prepared to learn that textbook by heart if you want to get a good grade. Extremely hard grader, don't expect to ever get full credit on anything.
I was pretty excited about this class, but I would 100% not recommend this class/professor. He is a very hard grader, and if not done to his liking, he will give you 0s without hesitation. He is not okay with using Grammarly and will fail you if you use it. He considers it AI-generated slop. Be prepared if you take this class; it will not be easy.
Yall hes not a tough grader you just have to do the work I would recommend meeting him during office hours to discuss exams or ask questions cause hes great at setting expectations Nothing was boring and sometimes I would rewatch the lecture videos a couple times for background noise
If you want to save your GPA, never take this class. He does not give a second chance for tests, assignments, or anything else. For example: you have 4 assignments for a week and you used ChatGPT or Grammarly in one assignment he will give you ZERO for all previous assignments for that week !!! And there is no EXTRA CREDIT for this class!!
Does not provide extensions under any circumstance. Locks assignments as soon time hits 11:59 and is very strict with grading and following direct instructions. Very strict
He is VERY VERY VERY strict. DO NOT TAKE IT IF YOU WANT TO SAVE YOUR GPA!!
DO NOT TAKE IT!!!
His class isn't hard on hw since it's just one chapter a week with a quiz. The grading is strict, but since it's not that hard of a class, you should be able to do just fine if you put in studying. The only big things you need to focus on is the Midterm and Final Exam (in person, closed book, no-notes, etc).
Tough class
Very shady guy, very strict about AI but gave unclear rules. After I used AI notes, he claimed there was hidden text to catch it, then later denied that. Kept changing his story and wouldn't let me redo anything. Felt unfair and frustrating. Withdrew to protect my GPA, which was almost ruined by that class. Do not take for the sake of your GPA.
This professor is such a nonsense. Half of his class materials are YouTube videos, and there is no lecture provided. On the top of it, he is a tough grader. Even if provide correct answers on closed-book during the test, if it is "online likely" then he will give you zero. Please avoid any of his class.
he just doesn't care, just don't take it if you don't wanna mess up your gpa
To start, yes- he is a hard grader and does not tolerate AI, but that should be expected. It is college after all. If you stay consistent with your homework and watch the lecture videos, you'll be fine. I'm in high school and honestly doing alright. If you actually do the work, and WATCH the videos, you're gonna be okay guys.
