Dr. Shannon is a wonderful example of what the professors at this school should be like. He always has time for his students and is willing to help no matter what. He always has a smile to brighten your day. I am very proud to have had him as a teacher :)
Dr. Shannon is great but his tests are pretty hard. Notes are very thorough and you should probably read the book and study way more than the first couple nights before the test
He is Hilarious
ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS NEVER TALK ABOUT DR. BAUER IN HIS CLASS BECAUSE YOUR B+ WILL BECOME A C-.
If you are a biology major, if you go through the program without taking him you are missing out on a fun learning experience. Almost makes me want to be a teacher if i wasnt going to med. school!
He substituted for Bauer one day (who gets subs in college anyways?!) and he was hilarious and broke down the material so we could understand it better and on top of that we got out of class extremely early. What more could u ask for?!
Great Professor. One of the best I've had at FMU. Really good at explaining complex material and making it easy. Does crack a lot of corny jokes so be prepared. This is not a class for slackers, but its really interesting. Overall, great class!!
All around great guy which spills over into the classroom. He makes you work a little (what it college for), but he's not out to get you. One of my most memorable at FMU!! A++
He is a pretty good teache in lab.
One of the best!cell is a hard class but it's well worth it if you take dr shannon!i couldn't imagine graduating without having him for a teacher.he gives a fair amount of notes and the tests are from the notes so just read, read, read!! very funny guy!
Dr. Shannon is a great guy, and really willing to help if you need it. Going to class really helps the understanding of his notes, and there's plenty of them, but his tests are more or less just from the notes, so it's worth it.
Dr. Shannon is a GREAT GUY. He is not average professor. He is pretty cool. If you are looking for an easy A than he is not your guy. He believes that his student should know the material. If you take him keep up and study every night. Give him a chance!
very easy
SHEESH
He is a terrific teacher. If you have the chance, TAKE HIM!! He's very helpful and explains things clearly. Makes class fun, even if he has some extra corny jokes. Don't get him started on Pres. Bush though(lol).
Great teacher. Tries his best to make sure that everyone learns as much as possible. Take him if you can.
he's cool. and willing to help if you need. he offers study sessions when you're having trouble
great prof. i am a republican and still enjoyed him. highly recommend him. if you study a little you can get an easy "A" very helpful, the jokes are really corny but you will have a blast in this class.

he is a very nice guy, but a not so easy teacher. take his class as a last resort. he is not as clear as he could be, and HIS TESTS WILL KICK YOUR @$$!
Dr. Shannon is an excellent profressor. He breaks things down(all the way down)so that you as an individual understand. His very down to earth and his jokes are sometimes funny...even when they are stupid. His test are only hard if and only if you are not studying. If you have a chance to take him DO SO!!! You will be greatful!!!
Dr. Shannon is a very cool professor. He tells a joke at the start of each lecture to arouse your attention. Nine times out of ten, the class is full of laughter. His exams are easy if you study your notes and complete the possible exam questions he posts on blackboard. He also gives voc. quizzes each week and homework. I had 4 homework's.
Dr. Shannon has a way of making class fun. He interacts with the students, and he helps out as much as he can. He's clear in what he is going to put on the tests, and the tests are not that difficult. Take him, he's a great professor!
Dr. Shannon's tests are very hard. i would suggest studying a little everyday and not a few nights/week before the test.
Dr Shannon is a great teacher. He made Biology fun. His notes are very detailed and clear. his test are straight from his notes. If you study you will make an A.
His test are HARD! He goes through things really fast. Studying a little everyday might help. Also lab as nothing to do with the lectures. He gives no extra credit, the only thing that might help your grade is the lab project
Well Well well he plays entirely too much, when we are hear to learn which is hard to do in his class, the test nothing like the notes given in class. Like everyone else says study everyday!!
He is too crazy!!!! He says jokes all the time but they're stupid but......U laugh. He tells jokes that his little gurl tells him and those are the best. He's a good teacher but not much teaching. U have to take notes and pay attention. If you don't come to class read the book, word by word. Have fun!!!
I really enjoyed his class. He tells a ton of jokes that are really corny, but they're still funny. His tests are not that hard as long as you study. He is really good for lab, too.
Very helpful, class was always interesting. You should take him if you have to take a Bio class.
He is pretty much the best bio teacher at this school...his tests aren't that hard if u study...he is always willing to help you if you need it..all you have to do is ask...and he always keeps class interesting and knows what he is talkin about. highly recommend him.
Dr. Shannon is an excellent teacher. Go to class, pay attention and study and you'll be fine. I highly recomend that anyone takes him.
He is the best Biology teacher I have ever had. He breaks all of the information down so you can understand it better, and hee gives you study guides at prior to all of the tests. Study your notes, the study guides and pay attention in class and you'll come out with an A. He also gives weekly quizzes vothat really help with your grade at the end.
Dr. Shannon is flippin AWESOME. He makes class fun, and he gives his tests straight out of the notes. I would say to read the chapters in the book though too for extra clarity. You will not get the full FMU bio department experience unless you take Dr. Shannon.
he was great if you went to class and studied a little everyday, the final for everyone turned out horrible and i dono why
I love Dr.Shannon he's one of the best and i really enjoyed having lab with him he always told a corny joke that lightened the mood
bad teacher I did not learn anything in his class. Do not take him not unless bio 105 is the only class you plan to take.(test are hard and stupid)
I wouldn't take him if Biology is not your major. He knows his stuff and is very good at helping you understand what he is talking about. Very passionate about his work! Great Teacher!!
Dr. Shannon tells jokes and is a joke. If you are an athlete then take him. He gives good grades to you. He thinks too much of himself. He hurts good students and helps bad students. He needs to be consistent. He is a Dr. Bauer wannabee, but without the genuineness.
Quizzes are easy, tests are extremely hard. If you participate in lab you get a 100.
Dr. Shannon is goofball (jokes are terrible). He is a great professor- he tries to make class enjoyable & really wants to make sure you understand the material covered. You must study for his exams.
Really tough but not impossible. If you study, an A is obtainable.
Dr. Shannon definitely knows his stuff. The class is certainly not easy and he expects a lot from his students, but i left the class feeling like i had learned a lot of information. He posted quizzes on blackboard that were very helpful on the tests. If you study and do the writing assignments, it is very possible to make a good grade.
Dr. Shannon's class is hard, but if you take this class seriously it will prepare you for classes that are way harder later on. Dr. Shannon knows his stuff and he will always help you if you ask. This class will show you what college really is and will help develop very good study strategies. If you just want to party don't waste his time or yours.
Dr. Shannon is really nice and funny at times. However, his notes are not always formatted properly and can sometimes give vague lectures. His tests are tough so don't expect anything less. He'll flunk you with a smile so do not let the kindness mislead you. Make sure you have a lot of time on your hands to study if you take one of courses.
Awesome professor! His class is challenging, but an A is attainable with proper study habits. He is a good person and will always welcome you if you need help with his class.
Not an easy class but it is possible to pass. You HAVE to study and missing class isn't a good idea at least from my experience
AWESOME
This class was pretty though. The exam are fairly hard, you MUST study the reading guides for each chapter. The weekly quizzes are very easy, the homework is easy if you have the text book. The final was sooooo easy!! Just study and you will do well in this course. Attendance is not mandatory but if you miss class you miss a lot of information!
Dr. Shannon is a great professor I recommend you take him but make sure you do your reading guides they are very helpful and he also gives feedback on any thing you need help with.
He start of the semester doing good with lectures, but then falls behind and piles a bunch of lectures into too much. which makes the test hard. All I can say of you have to take this course make sure you study every single day!!
His tests are not easy by any means but he is a great teacher. He will stop class if you ask a question to explain. I would take him for every biology class. Just be prepared to study every night and the review sessions are VERY helpful.
Tests are tough. Flies through the material. Relied a lot on my book because he doesn't cover concepts well in class.
This was a hard class. Dr. Shannon knows what he is talking about. He will stop class to explain something until you understand it. You have to study every night. However, you come out of the class with a good understanding of the material. The tests were hard but if you work hard and attend every class you can do well. Don't skip class.
He doesn't count absences, but you'd best show up just for the lecture. He's the best at explaining things, but he does move quick. Ask questions, he explains happily. He's pretty funny too. The tests can be difficult but they're straight from the lecture. Also, I didn't need the book to pass, but I was told it helps. Memorization is a must.
Dr. Shannon is great. His quizzes are easy as long as you study. Participate and you will be fine.
He's a great teacher, just sometimes kind of boring. Attendance isn't required, but YOU NEED TO BE THERE TO PASS! I promise you that. He tells some great nerdy science jokes, and he grades things pretty fast. Cool guy, but his tests are NO JOKE! STUDY!
I LOVED Dr. Shannon. He is probably the easiest Bio teacher at Francis Marion. Even though his tests are tough, as long as you study, you can make good grades on them. You can gain a personal relationship with him which is good if youre having trouble. Would recommend to anyone!!!
Dr. Shannon is so nice but an AWFUL teacher. If you want to fail take him. I failed all my test and don't expect a curve. The only chance you have to pass is ace the final. The only good thing he did for me is let me withdraw passing. Forced me to change my major...
Dr. Shannon is really funny and a great man. But he is a really hard teacher. You have to bust your butt to do well in his class. The quizzes are easy but the tests are REALLY hard. I took notes and made note cards and did all I could and still never made a B on the tests. The final is REALLY easy though. Always go to class and talk to him.
Doesn't do attendance, quizzes every week, and really helpful during lectures. He really helps after classes if you take the time to set appointments to have him assist you in anything that you may need assistance with. Has materials that you need to watch on his Blackboard page and it goes over what the lectures are about that week.
Dr. Shannon knows what he is talking about and is extremely knowledgable in biology but for this to be an introductory course, he expects you to have a lot of knowledge as well that most people do not graduate high school with. He will answer your questions but will fuss at the class and claim its not his fault then everyone fails. Test are v hard.
Dr. Shannon is a nice and goofy guy, but he is not a good teacher. His lectures have nothing to do with his tests. What he teaches in class and what you take notes on, will not help you on the test at all. The only good thing was his class wasn't mandatory but if you didn't go you would struggle. His final is all test combined with same answers.
Dr. Shannon is one of my favorite professors. He is willing to help you get a good grade as long as you come to him for help and be clear about what is giving you trouble. His notes can be vague at times, but that's really the worst of it.
Great lab professor he is extremely smart and funny. He is very nice and easy to talk to which was great. Take him for Bio 105 lab.
Professor Shannon is awesome! He doesn't make you have a textbook because he goes over everything. Make sure you attend class because he makes his exams off of that. Make sure to take the quizzes, he lets you take it over and over until you get a 100. Also for the final it's all your exams combined so study. The exams and you'll be straight!
He's okay.
Lectures are full of information and hes a great professor. He will stop everything and explain it if you ask. Textbook was useless, just pay attention in class and study. Great for lecture and lab - I would recommend him - just beware his exams are quite difficult and you WILL need to study in advance. Final exam is actually really easy though.
Shannon was one of the hardest professors I have ever come up against. His lectures are all done by writing on chalkboard. He does not follow the book, so you have no resource but your notes. His tests are harder and require a greater knowledge than what he teaches. He rarely answers emails and office hours are not a sure way to catch him.
He is not a bad professor at all. If you study you will do fine. I promise. I had to retake him for Bio 105 because my first semester here I did not study for his class. I made a D+ without studying. I have a A now and I do study. The first time I took it he did not to study guide but this time he did. They helped ALOT but its all from the notes.
Dr. Shannon is a lot harder in his lectures than in his labs. Personally, I took another professor for my lecture and I regret that because the two different classes learned at fairly different paces and Dr. Shannon seems to go more in depth. All around, he is a good guy and a great professor; who I'd definitely take again! 10/10 would recommend!
Notes from lecture are simple, however on the test he takes those simple notes and adds way more to them and youre left clueless on the exam because nothing was discussed in class. Doesnt help when you ask to clarify. Hes very sarcastic but if you study really hard, youll pass.
Show up to lab. Do the lab. Read over the vocabulary, and you'll pass the quiz. He is very understanding if you miss a lab, and will work with you to make it up. However, do not mistake his kindness for weakness. The grade you get reflects the work you put in.
Dr. Shannon knows a lot about biology and really wants his students to succeed. While his lectures are informative, his tests can be challenging if you don't truly understand the material. I enjoyed having him as a professor and recommend him if you have a science related major. Just know that his class is one you actually need to study for.
He teaches you the subject and expects you to learn it. There were 4 tests and then weekly online quizzes that counted as a fifth test grade. You will need to study to do fine. The textbook was not used at all. Tests have multiple choice, vocab short answer, and typically 3 "essay" style (sometimes its drawing a diagram).
The material may be a little hard but even during class he will explain and will not get upset. he tries to be funny but the jokes are corny lol thats what made me laugh. my grade was only so low because i missed a test and a quiz.
This has been one of the hardest classes that I've taken at FMU. I dislike his teaching style because he forgets certain things about the topic that were in and he then remembers after we've gone through two different topics. His exams are SOOO HARD! I would study for all of his exams and I only passed the first exam with a 76. STUDY A LOT!!!!!
Very hard course and lecture heavy. I do not recommend him to any student.
His class is super hard and boring. He makes you read more than 10 pages a night on the online textbook and only goes over the pictures in class. Nobody has enough time in the world to teach thenseoves a whole course while working and going to school. The coursework is too extensive.
Does not spark interest in his subject matter at all. He does cover everything you need for the test in his lectures, so make sure you go to class and you won't have to do the reading. On the down side, his lectures are boring and he sounds bored as he's giving them. He also made the online transition quite difficult, as he added extra work.
Dr. Shannon is a great guy and knows what he's talking about. However, his exams are very hard and all that he goes over during lecture is the pictures or graphs and answers whatever questions you may have. You have to read the chapter in the textbook yourself each week to know what he is talking about in lecture.
Overall he is a boring teacher. He does not help you when you have questions, he will answer rudely and then answer. If you email him, he will not email you back. Ive asked for extra credit and he has not gotten back to me. He does not follow the syllabus at all. I would not recommend taking him again.
Professor Shannon was boring. I would try not to fall asleep in his class because he is boring with his lectures. His test were based off of all the notes, so be prepared to study!
His exams are really hard you have to be able to apply what you are learning in order to pass. His exams are half multiple choice and the rest where you have to write. Just listening in class is not enough to pass.
Dr. Shannon is an okay professor. He handed out pre-lecture assignments, which are graded 100 regardless of completion. He also handed out quizzes, which were okay. These quizzes will require you to use the online textbook to answer. He does not follow the syllabus. Gave us 4 quizzes out of the 10 mentioned on syllabus.
Dr. Shannon was a good professor. His labs were fun and helped to apply class material. He did a good job of explaining his expectations and always gave you the grade you earned. He also was not scared to admit his mistakes and fix them. His lectures were also very engaging.
Dr. Shannon is a great professor overall and it is on you to put the work in to get the grade you want. His tests are straightforward as long as you go by the notepages given. His tests may be tough, but he simply provides you with notepages to look over for your knowlege. Attendance not mandatory, but recommended. It will help you in the long run.
Does not grade on time, so don't ask, the test are straight forward and the final is not cumulative. He does help if you ask and motivates you to do good in his class. he tells jokes, some are not funny; his lab isn't hard we barely had any assignments. his lectures are just slides and they all come from the textbook, don't buy the hardcopy its $$$
Overall, Dr Shannon was a pretty good professor. He does no extra credit. He gives a quiz every Friday that there is not a exam. The quiz is online and you take it at home. His final is not cumulative. His test can be tough, but study the notes he gives you and you should be fine.
Tim never answers any emails. I've sent him 6 over the fall semester and he never answered a single one. He loses graded tests all the time and since he can't find them, he gives you a 0 because god forbid he lost them (he insinuates that you didn't do them). The only good part about him is that sometimes he makes funny jokes....sometimes.
Dr. Shannon does not follow the syllabus provided for example we were supposed to do 4 writing assignments he didn't even get through grading 1. He reads from the slides and doesn't really go in depth with what he is teaching. You will have to go in the book and teach yourself the things that will be on the test.
Decent professor, Majority of the class are the 5 exams that are given throughout the year, they are hard and you need to study the notes he gives, the final is just the 4 regular exams combined into one, all exams are multiple choice. Hes a pretty chill guy and tells jokes often.
started this semester only doing online quizzes and papers with a final project instead of final exam…100% recommend
I did not pass with the grade I wanted but that was because my effort. Dr. Shannon is a great teacher and a really great guy! I would easily recommend him to anyone who needs biology!
Dr. Shannon was a good professor overall. There was a lot of quizzes and assignments to do, but not too much to where it is impossible to do them. He holds lectures every day, but sometimes he will give a data analysis that takes up the entire class time.
I had Dr. Shannon for one semester where we had only 5 or 6 people. It was a really small class. All quizzes and tests were online, and the final was just a 2-minute presentation. He makes jokes sometimes, and there were a lot of awkward silences since there is just a few of us, but most of the time it was chill. Great professor!
