Ecellent teacher....EASY but you learn alot....COOL as hell too
Intro to LAN: Very good instructor. Lots of work but makes class fun & interesting. Seems generally interested in students' success not only in school but in future.

Very Fair/Fun/KNOWS EVERYTHING and likes to think you will too by end of class.
2000 server. His main objective is to get you certified!! Excellent teacher. Work at first is a little overwhelming, but by the end of the semester loosens up quite nicely. Definatley reccomend!! Continues communication after class is over!
Tim So ROCKS!!!!!!. Prof Starr is the best. he will challenge a student beyond belief but at the end you know a ton of info. Take any class he teaches!!!!!!!!
Tim Starr did not teach in this class. He expected you to know the material and do the work on your own. Maybe he does fine teaching other classes, but he was not ready for server 2003 at all. He needs to study the material before being an effective teacher. A bit of motivation would not hurt either
Tim is a great teacher and person. He is always willing to help his students in and out of class. He teaches you from the book and from his own personal experiences without the homework overload.
Awesome teacher! Not many tests, but lots of quizzes(20 online)But theres no real due date and you get to redo them as many times till you get the grade you want. Midterm is average of first 10 quizzes. Tests are open book. Teacher has great sense of humor and will help you out if your grade is in trouble. Will take this teacher again. Highly recom
Professor Starr is a mediocre teacher. He doesn't really teach much. He assumes that you are learning the material on your own. He will show a couple movies and do a couple activities but thats it. 20 quizes are opened the first day of class and they are open till the end of the semester. 20 chapters is way too much material even for a reg semester
Tim is very easy going. Lets students resubmit homework to get perfect grade. He only lectures on what he thinks is important, and ties it in with his own experiences. Offers extra credit regularly, but get stuff done on time or he gets upset. Will help you in other classes too if you ask for help.
Took Management and Marketing with Tim. He's a great teacher. I fully believe in his teaching methods by implementing real world ideas in the class room. Textbook definitions will not make someone great in business. He's an ethical guy and the class is not hard. How hard can management be?
All assignments can be done on computer with open book. Tim is available to help students and emphasizes real world skills.
Awesome teacher, easiest class i've ever taken... Makes class fun, and interesting. TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS TEACHER
Tim's a blast !! I had him for Marketing and Management. He'll give you every opportunity to get an A in the class, but you have to work for it. Overall, a great guy and good teacher. Very helpful.
Tim is an amazing teacher...he insists you call him by his first name, and the whole class is group work and discussion...he never really lectures, but instead makes you learn by experience. The homework are WebCt quizzes which you can retake as many times as you want. He's really helpful, fun, and flexible...TAKE HIS CLASS!!
Tim Starr, in my opinion is one of the best Professors that you could have. He is very willing to bring the real world into the classroom without compromising the integrity of the material. He really seemed to care about each student, and wanting them to learn the material. I would recommend Tim Starr to anyone attending this college.
One of the best professors that I have had, extremely helpful with any problems/questions that you have. Tells you everything that you need to know. Knows what he is talking about and will share real life stories which help you figure out what you need to know. A++++
He was Fantastic. He does alot of group work, which is always fun and spontaneous. He gives alot of realistic positive feedback! He was the most helpful teacher i have ever had!
Great professor! He made class very interesting. I never missed a class because I loved to be there. Everything discussed in class applied to everyday life. Easy class if you just do the homework and project. I would definitely take him again!
Awesome Teacher. Take him for an easy business class.
He is a fantastic Professor. I really enjoyed his teaching style. No power point, no boring lectures, just a lot of interactive, hands-on projects. I would take him on anything else again!
Interesting instructor, somewhat uncenventional but I learned would definitely take another class by him
Tim is a very down to earth teacher. He is very open about his plans for the class, and explains early on what is expected. His teaching skills forces debates in the class making for a fun term.
Coolest teacher at VCC! He truly cares about his students and want them to learn. I couldn't have cared less about the subject until I took his class. Now I am totally into it, and even using it in my everyday life. Tim ROCKS!
Best professor I have ever had.
Tim was very helpful with anything you need to make up if you do miss a class. He provides a lot of useful websites and programs suggestions that would help you further down in your IT career.
Easier than subnet masking. :O I give him a Class A address.
First of, I will like to Thank Professor Tim Starr for always going the extra mile to make sure that all students in his class understand any type of computer subjects. No matter if it involves going off the class subject for 10-20 minutes, Professor Starr makes it fun and easy to understand. I will take more courses with him, that's a fact. : D
awesome teacher, easy A class, you just have to attend class and do homeworks on time, fun class it is.
Really helpful with industry advice and certifications - Great teacher.
Very helpful..interesting...learned alot and didnt have to do too much...tests are easy...DEF. take intro with him!!
Mr. Starr is great! He loves teaching the subject and it is very interesting. No book work in class and his lectures are very helpful in the real world. He loves his students and young people, very cool. I recommend to any student, business major or not, it will help you in the long run!
Attendance isn't mandatory but his class is soo interesing that you will always come to class. He teaches real life situations that will help you the moment you leave class and go to work. He's an awesome professor and I think everyone should take him because he realy just wants to help people save money and live better.
He is the best professor ever! Very easy class. He gives real world examples. TAKE HIM HE IS AWESOME!
He's a wonderful professor. He tries to make the class as understandable even to those who don't have much prior knowledge in the topic. He also makes the requirements clear as day. I def. reccomend taking him.
A great and fun class to be in. I would try to get another class with him and definitely recommend to others.
A truely remarkable class, Mr. Starr has complete knowledge of all the courses he teaches as well as tons and tons of hands-on experience in those fields. Have recommended him to several friends and some family. He's easy, and lets you know what's expected up front. TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES. YOU WONT REGRET IT!
I really enjoyed my experience in his Web Development course. This professor is very helpful. He will work with you if you are willing to be flexible.I like the fact that he is very knowledgable about the course. He allows students to come in with their own ideas that related to subjects within the course. He is very easy to talk to as a professor.
Top professor of my term! Very helpful, fair, right to the point and down to earth... goes above and beyond if you ask for help. Uses different teaching strategies to help every learning style. I had to borrow a hand, lol 3 thumbs up!
Teaching strategy is to make sure everyone understands and is enjoying what they are learning makes class lively and interesting. I give him 5 stars!
Excellent teacher! He understands everything there is in the world of business. Along with his lessons he gives great tips along with the lesson on how to get ahead in personal life so listen up! Its NO way you can fail! He gives you chance after chance. He's the type of professor you want to keep in contact with, he's full of wisdom and advice!
He's a cool teacher, but using online video's to teach web design made it hard to learn. I'm pretty tech savvy (so I thought), but these codes are difficult to learn if your fairly novice to the subject. I had a little experience in HTML years ago, but not enough to help me through this course. The book was mind numbing too.
awesome teacher!! he make's you get your work done but is very lenient. Paper due at end of semester but breaks it up into 2 small papers due every 2 or 3 weeks. Easy A with little effort! take him!!
Best teacher ever! Class is super easy. Gives you plenty of chances to do all the assignments. Take this class, you will not regret it.
So far the best teacher in Valencia! He was super easy and I was able to focus on all my other classes first, this class was a breeze! It's great if you're not really a business person. Didn't need to buy the book, the assessments revealed the answers. Definitly take Mr. Starr! or wait till next semester if his classes are full. Yep it's like that!
He is the most interesting teachers I've had! He is clear to the point and is willingnto answer question & will give you extra help if asked. He's very easy going but don't try to take advantage he's 10 steps ahead of you!!! 5 stars for Starr!
A great teacher. Very knowledgeable and helpful. You will get your money's worth with Starr. Work is easy, just follow his directions to get an A and you will. Gives you time to complete all assignments. Be on Time!! If you fail this class you should be shot.
chillen dude, very smart and super helpful. wants you to pass and gives you a lot of help in linux too.
Very good teacher, knows his stuff.
This was a great class!!!
Always keeps it interesting.
very practical guy
This professor is AWESOME! He knows his subjects and is very helpful!! He goes out of his way to help you when asked. He is a 5 star in my book.
Tim Starr is the best teacher I have ever met. You learn real stuff in his class instead of just read the books. He did lots of real world case studies, questions right off of the MCSE exam, really expand your horizon. His class is very interesting and he try to have everyone engaged. Make a difficult problem easy to understand.
Even when he teachs tegnology, he keeps saying that this path is not well payed, and we will making $12 an hour. The first week he got a line of students asking him about this. By the second week 2 quit the clas. The last thing he said was he found one of his best student working in stapples. No motivation at all. Im thinkin to change my major.
Mr. Starr is a great teacher. Breaks down how the industry works and helps you get a general knowledge of things. Highly recommended teacher.
Great Teacher. Very Funny Guy, Smart and Intelligent. Gives you plenty of time to complete the assessments and you can do them as many times as you want as long as its before the deadline, i would take his class again if i could.
Mr. Starr is a great teacher. I took hm for both Hardware and Software. He teach you real world stuff. Gives you tips for the work place. His goal is to get you Comp Tia cef. Take the all class you can with him. Highly recommoned. Trust me it worth the money. a techer how gives planty of time to get the work done.
Great Professor, great class...take it, you'll love this class...
Awesome class!Professor Starr, makes the class fly. Very educated on the subject, and provides a real world examples. (He works for a company during the day). Just show, up and you should be fine.
Very easy class.Since it was a shortened class not much was done. Online quizzes and extra points for attending class. At the end we did a quick group presentation and that was it. Easy A.
Really great teacher. Helpful, and easy. Great online class teacher. REGISTER FOR HIM.
Professor Starr was a great instructor. His class taught me so much because he gave us real world work and did not have us just do assingments out of the textbook. I enjoyed his course and his way of teaching a lot.
Tim Starr is a great teacher. His class is easy and you can pass it with a high grade if you do your work and ask questions on things you don't understand. You don't have to buy the book but you can if you want to. Honestly you don't need it if you watch his videos and read what he post's. The assignments are based on real world learning.
If you are a computer science major, Professor Starr is the best choice to begin your programming career. He invests his time to prepare his students for the workforce. There are no multiple-choice questions in this class, only creative application of concepts learned. If you are serious about computer science, take Professor Starr. Rate: 5/5.
Okay so If you want to succeed in any technical or engineering field, this is THE man to see. He is very intelligent, well versed, and overall a realist. He will point give proper direction to those who truly seek it and is a great lecturer. You wont fall asleep in any of his classes and he is a great mentor in IT.
Great professor, he knows what he is talking about. Lectures usually never run the whole night. Online quizzes seemed to be taken straight from the textbook. The labs are fun and educational. Taking him again next semester for a different class.
Professor Starr is probably my favorite teacher I have had in school. He really does care about you learning the stuff. He can go off topic at times but its always interesting and the projects he gives are good for hands on experience. If you are excited and genuinely try on the work (learn to Google stuff before you ask for help) you will be good
All the exam questions come from his lectures - don't bother buying the textbook. His exams are very specific and very difficult though. Great lecturer, but you definitely need to study for the exams.
Professor Starr's a fantastic teacher for course Linux Shell Scripting. He guides you through the intro and very basic scripting. When I mark Get ready to Read I mean get ready to research. Most solutions for work needed are easily accessible online. Very approachable.
I don't know if it was because I took this class online but I feel like I learned by myself. Don't get me wrong, this is not a bad thing if you think about it. You need to be self sufficient and teach yourself many skills if you plan to be a CS major but the professor simply copied and pasted the course from the last semester.
Good teacher if you want an A
Great Teacher!!
This guy is cool but his course is TERRIBLE. I took a super easy course by him and it was EASY. I spent maybe 5-10 hours on the course the entire semester and got a B. But for being a computer guy he's terrible at using Canvas. His modules weren't in order, he didn't communicate with students at all, it was impossible to find due dates, etc.
Professor Starr is a great professor. He has tons of experience in the IT field. Gives excellent feedback, responds quickly, and really cares about his students. He loves chatting with his students if they need help, advice or just talking anything about technology.
In the last 2 weeks, he decided to make 18 optional exams count against you. Heavy course work, even for regular semester. If you pass your TestOut Network Pro exam with an 80% it's an automatic "A". So why even bother doing the coursework? If you have the Testout NetworkPro Certification just CLEP out of the class or email him your certificate.
The exams, two of which were very difficult projects, make up the bulk of the grade. He is very lenient and lets you submit multiple times, does not go heavy with late penalties and drops the lowest performing grade. Do all the work ahead of time and make use of the resources, he is not a crazy grader.
Professor Starr is awesome. The textbook he uses is free and he sets the course up so that as long as you do the work and follow his instructions you will succeed. He does offer an extra credit assignment too.
Workload was light, in my opinion, the prof is great. The textbook is free and informative, and although the lectures are from someone else, they were very good and taught you the things you needed to do the assignments. If you are unsure about pursuing computers as a career (as I was), take this class. I start my comp sci degree in the Fall.
Canvas is messy. It's hard at times to decode what I'm supposed to do. The module content are just YouTube videos from playlists he didn't make. There's several and they repeat topics. Assignments are either based on YouTube videos or make you look up online how to do it. The discussions are mostly unrelated (ex: AI in general, phone addiction).
Professor Starr may seem gruff at the beginning but he's just setting the tone: no nonsense. He picked discussion topics that were challenging, thought-provoking, and thoroughly relevant. He grades fairly, he puts you on the spot occasionally to test your knowledge and your interest, he gives a lot of professional advice.
We basically just watch youtube videos from Colin Archibald from 11 years ago. Doesn't exactly work for me, so I had to find outside sources/tutors to help me get through the assignments. The book is free and it is very informative. Light workload, engaging discussion assignments. Nice professor, easy to contact for help. Be prepared to practice!
If you are a new guy in programming and taking a full semester to learn this class, it's your best choice. I took sped up, but even though was easy as soon as you keep up with the material not leaving everything till the end. The professor will give you a time for late submission without penalty as soon as he sees you trying.
Frankly, I lost motivation halfway through the semester for all my classes but I had a harder time with this class. I am extremely grateful that Starr allowed for late submission even though he said he wouldn't. But try not to take advantage of that and submit on time. The videos and tutoring provided by Valencia are beyond helpful.
I had Professor Starr for my IT capstone, and it was easy with not a lot of homework. The course consisted of discussion posts, but the main focus was creating a project and working on it for the entire semester. Professor Starr does not have strict criteria; he allows you to be creative with your project which I loved. He answers emails super fast
If you want an easy A, take this class. If you want a passionate professor who engages with students and provides good learning resources, don't take this class. I learned a little bit about Linux but I had to google almost everything because the videos he provides are not good.
Professor Tim Starr is amazing! He is definitely teaching here because he cares; he could easily be teaching at a prestigious university with his ability. You get real world experience and advice that goes beyond the class and into not just getting a job but how to manage your career and advancement decisions. This guy knows what he's talking about
