Good lectures but hard quizzes.

very hard professor, try to get anyone but this guuy for stats
He is not willing to help and expects more of students than they are capable. SWITCH OUT OF HIS CLASS!
Horrible prof. doesn't care about students or if they do well at all. Drop his class if you have it. This man is not nice and very boring.
teaches the class like students are all buisness majors and geniuses at it. he doesnt do a good job at explaining anything, and his powerpoint lectures are the worst, and who cares about the buisness program if you arent in it!
i'll agree this class was very difficult, but i'm glad, i learned a lot, forced me to study and pay attention and go to class. i got an A, but it was very difficult, and i was one of a few.. if you want an A, you have to study hard, and make sure to go visit him in his office
the worst teacher i have ever had! he is so rude and not helpful at all. he doesnt explain anything to you. and dont try to go talk to him in his office... he is not helpful there either. he is a jerk!!! do not get him to stats!
I feel that Dr. Sullivan has received an unwarranted bad reputation here. He provides all of the resources that students need to learn the material. Previous quiz answers are on his website and he sends out economic scenarios to work through related to the next quiz. Not a hard class.
This man is one of the worst teachers I've encountered at SIUE. Who quizzes first thing Monday morning EVERY WEEK? That counts for 60% of your grade so if you're bad at tests you're more or less screwed. Never take a class with him.
failed because he is a terrible teacher
Awesome teacher. Yes there are quizes every monday but he gives you everthing you need and more to ace them. If you want to really learn and are willing to work a little bit, take this man's class.
TERRIBLE, likes to put trick questions on quizes. Doesn't warn about due dates at all. Boring lectures, I got A's in all other classes and a D in this one. Don't take any of his classes if you can help it
An interesting class if you like Powerpoint. Very organized instructor. Has notes and pre-quizes available online. Very straightforward with down to earth examples. Easy to understand.
Great guy, class is hard no matter who teaches it. From my understanding easier than Pug teaching it. Needs to be a little clearer on quiz questions but overall a good professor.
Terrible terrible terrible. That's all there needs to be said!
I can't speak for the other classes that he teaches. But, I enjoyed him for GBA 300 and he was very helpful. I heard he was pretty easy compared to the other GBA 300 teachers. If you went to him he was always willing to help me and my group.
He put the quizs from last semester online to help you study for the new ones. He seemed to know alot about Econ. but expected you to be the same way. Don't take this class unless you are willing to put the time in and study alot each week.
He was a little dull, but I did learn a lot in the class. I must say I didn't really appreciate the Monday morning quizzes, but if you study for just 20 minutes sunday night you'll get an A on them. I went into his office a few times and he was always willing to help or just chat--he's really a nice guy, but he does expect students to try.
Excellent teacher. People who complain about monday quizzes need to realize that the weekend does not overlap into monday. "Sounds Like somebody has a case of the mundays" (office space, yes and that is how it is spelled)
Great teacher. He is always willing to help you with problems in class. This class does take some effort but that little effort helps a lot. He provides past years quizzes online for students to study from. Excellent teacher.
Good teacher. Posts quizzes from previous semester online to help you prepare for quizzes. The weekly quizzes make you realize right away if you understand material or not. There are no exams (besides the final) just the weekly quizzes. Gives great examples that you can understand.

Very good teacher. Always helped students.
very rude person
He explained everything well, but he is a dick if you have questions. He is kinda rude when you go to his office as well. I will never take him again
class was very boring. when i went and talked to him about my grade he was not helpful.
lectures are interesting, grading is almost completely arbitrary, he is abusive and unpleasant in office hours
Have quiz everyday it helps you to learn the matrial better. If you show up to class everyday and study for the quizes he isn't too bad.
he didn't CURVE!!!!
Do not take MS250 with this "teacher" because he doesn't teach! He'll make you print out 10,000 "notes" which are actually group activities and expects you to do group work in class the whole time. Then he'll have students write the answers on the board. Doesn't even show solutions or how to work problems! Why does he even bother coming to class?
An excellent instructor with well-prepared notes. YES, he expects you to do your homework and attend class. But if you do, you'll learn a lot, since he is an excellent lecturer. I learned a lot fro this class!
This class is booooring! I was interested in being a business major until i took his class and rethought it. Quizes are helpful and past quizes are online, also helpful. Paper was easy and he was helpful with correcting it.
Great teacher! Probably the best teacher I've had at SIUE. You have a quiz every week. But there are not test other than the final. Go to class, pay attention, and thats it. Not much studying required. Attendance not required. One paper, really easy. Final exam was short, about the size of four quizzes together.
I really liked Dr. Sullivan. He was a great professor who expected a lot out of his students, but who rewarded those who bothered to study and come to class. I don't understand why people failed the class; he offers pre-quizzes on his blackboard page every week, even for the final. Maybe more students should have tried SI?
This was an easy class. There are a lot of notes to print out each week, but you don't have test. You have quizzes each week worth 10 points. I really like him. If you can do simple Calc or Algebra you'll be fine. The final was a little curve ball that it was going to be easier but it wasn't and I got a B in the class. Great Teacher
nice guy until you miss class for an actual IMPORTANT reason.. i had a friend die and he wouldn't let me make up my quiz for the week.. he gave me a ZERO...quizzes aren't all that bad but he likes to mess with you and put stuff on them you wouldn't expect...he's prolly the most strict grader ever! he takes off for everything! i DO NOT recommend him
Very up front about expectations, attendance is not taken but quizes are given once a week and count for 70% of overall grade.... If you do the work and go to class you will pass. He also gives you examples of past quizes to study from so you know what to expect.
Great professor! Attendance is NOT required but YOU SHOULD GO!! there is a quiz every week which makes you learn the material and practices are online!! DO THEM! do them homework too so that you don't forget what you previously learned and you'll do GREAT!
Econ is not for everyone. Definetly tried hard to help everyone understand. Took during Summer. Quizs every class during Summer. Attendance not necessary but would help. Don't complain if you do not go to class. Final was exactly like the quizs.
He is a very smart guy. He actually teaches things you should know. Though quizzes accounts for 60%, they are easy. You will actually enjoy this course.
Good teacher, there is homework which is actually kinda difficult but then two tests and the final. Open book, open notes on these tests...
Great Teacher! Very helpful and wants everyone to do well. The class is a lot of work but the 2 tests and the final are open note and open book. Still have to study though...cause it is hard!
One of the best at SIUE. Does not waste your or his time teaching useless material in text. This was my 3rd class with him all As. If you don't do well not much sympathy, sorry, maybe another field would be more interesting for you.
Dr. Sullivan was amazing!!!!! I had him for MS 251, the hardest class in the school of business by the way, and he was so helpful. Open book and open note test, but attendance is still mandatory because the class itself is a (female dog)
He is one of the most complicated teachers SIUE has. He gives 10 problem sets which total 40% of your grade. Don't think that since this is homework you are going to do well on it. It seemed like he searched for anything he could find to take points off. Test were open notes, but this does not make him a wonderful teacher, because there stil hard.
Horrible Class, professor is not helpful at all. Your pretty much on your own. I passed the class with a C the first time around but it was no walk in the park & the first C I ever got in my college career. If you have questions dont even think about asking, becuz he wont help you.
Honestly, I hardly ever showed up unless it was a Monday because that was a quiz day and homework needed to be turned in. I received an A by spending atleast an hour before each quiz studying his example quizzes, simple as that folks. MS251 is supposed to be an entirely different ballgame though.
Great Professor. He expects students to know how to do math taught in HS, so he is not going to baby you and walk you through the process each step of the way. He provides all the notes and is very organized. If you attend class and pay attention you shouldn't have any problems
Had him for three classes. If ur an Econ major try to get in his class. For those ppl from his ms251 class, I'd rather have Sullivan than Beck when those r ur two options. It's just a difficult class in general.
His expectations are so meanless. He cut my points just because i mispelled the name of the city. I did all my calculations correct but he expects you to title the tables etc very professional and never gives clear examples. He is helpful and nice but when it comes to grading he is getting monster :)
Simply put, if you have a 40 point homwork assignment, and only get 4 wrong 40 points off. Monster at grading. This is not fair.
in class homework assignments help alot, so go to class. He is a very easy going teacher and makes a class that is difficult, much easier. take in the summer if possible
He has very high standards grading the problem sets. You MUST follow the "best practices" in the notes. Tests are not that hard if you understand the material. SI sessions help for tests
terrible teacher, his class should be more of an online class due to the fact that he doesnt do anything other than read off his slides during class. Also gives no clarity on anything and is just not a good overall teacher
Dr. Sullivan isn't one of those professors you will say you like but he's does an ok job of teaching material. Only thing is he does not answer questions or is helpful. If you answer a question in class and get it wrong he has a way of making you look stupid. Would recommend taking in summer though because its a quick breeze.
This class was super easy, if of course you love math and calculations. He is very good at explaining and his examples are easy to get. He uses exactly what he teaches in class on his quizes. He will always give the easy stuff on the quizes, so if you dont get something thats weird looking and tooooooo dificult, dont worry it wont be on the test.:)
He is a good teacher and I felt that he did well on the material. But then again it is Econ... His quizes are a drag but the final was made up of 5 quizes
Dr. Sullivan is extremely precise. Starts class exactly to the minute and is always prepared. Very important to use his lecture notes and a good grade will be the outcome. Know the maps!
Sullivan explained material very clearly. Everything on quizzes were exactly like problems we did in class. Going into this class I was worried, but Sullivan did a good job of making difficult material easy.
It is difficult to study for the quizzes because there are at least 60 slides for each section from a 5 question quiz. final is terrible because it's only 20ish questions. avoid this class 342
Pretty easy course you just have to look at the power points 2-3 times before the quizzes and you should get 10/10's. 14 quizzes and 1 final exam. Simple enough just have to be willing to study a couple days ahead.
This class is pretty cool. Mr. Sullivan teaches this material very well and everything is off the powerpoints. 1 quiz a week with about 5 questions and a final of about 25 questions. I recommend him.
This guy is a straight up pro. The reason most complain about 251 is because they aren't willing to put in the amount of effort it requires. He's trying to prepare people for real life situations. There is no partial credit in the workplace and he doesn't offer it here. He is very clear. Be precise down to the font size required. Seriously.
His lecture is pretty rehearsed with lots of wordy slides. Only provides a single example for each type of equation. Really tough grader and does not explain point deductions at all. Almost pointless to go in for help because he will not provide any. Refused to explain his grading numerous times and always with a fake smile.
Very good professor. Did an excellent job teaching difficult material.
If teachers are to inspire & motivate students then he's definitely not there yet!He grades us on things tat absolutely don't matter at all!Like format, spelling mistakes & a lotta things that are probably not as important as the subject itself! An absolute pain in the neck! Prof it's high time u evaluate and grade urself cos I wouldn't give u a -Z!
I attribute my passing to having Sullivan. He is a tough grader but he lets you use ALL notes on ALL tests (including all prior tests on the final) He uses real world examples in class. This is generally just a tough class - you have to attend to know and understand the material. If you skip class, don't even bother and do liberal arts or something
He is a tough grader, but if you go to class it will be fine. He teaches in such a way beneficial to the real world.
He's extremely knowledgeable and teaches in a way that you can easily understand. The class consisted of 19 quizzes and were challenging at times. I would definitely recommend as long as you're willing to work for it. Not an easy class by any means, but you will pull off a decent grade if you invest enough time in the class.
Very very tough to pass, more than half my class either dropped of failed. He allows for open notes on quizzes and test. But if you don't understand the materials you are not going to pass. If you miss more than maybe 4 classes you will fail. I highly encourage taking another professor.
He is an excellent teacher, tells you exactly what you need to do in order to pass his class (he means it), and after you have done research and cant find the answer he is more than happy to help. Wants to make sure you are putting in the effort to be successful
He's a difficult grader. If you get it wrong, it's wrong. No partial credit on anything. He does, however, allow you to use all of your notes on tests. Have the problems you work in class laid out neatly and organized because the quizzes are exactly what you did in class. Do the work, get the credit. The final has been aced too, it's possible.
T. Sullivan is a very routine guy. He comes in everyday and starts teaching at the exact start time of class. Class went along the same way every. single. day. Sometimes lectures got boring, but overall an interesting class. Quizzes once a week so prepare for these well and if you do on them you will get an A in the class.
He cares about his students and he is very knowledgeable. He can seem strict but deep down he's a good guy. MS251 is a difficult course but Sullivan thankfully allows you to use any and all of your notes to use on his quizzes. He even allows you to use old quizzes from previous semesters if you are lucky (or unlucky) enough to have them with you.
Great instructor who breaks down the material into easy-to-understand morsels. Really cares about his students and is willing to help outside of class.
Sullivan is one of the best professors I have had so far. He updates grades and coursework on BB. All the notes are on BB but you need to attend class in order to complete them. He allows notes to be used on quizzes and for the final we could use notes and quizzes. The final was exactly like the quizzes but with different numbers.
I would recommend Dr. Sullivan to anyone that needs to take MS 250 & 251. He cares about his students and is willing to help outside of class. Pay attention to the quiz prep and ask questions when needed. He lets you use anything on quizzes and the final except for phones, etc. If you don't attend you will not do well on the quizzes and final.
After asking for help on how to better understand the material I received a ego filled lecture as to how I was not using his system properly and there was no way to learn the material otherwise. I recommend to steer clear of this egocentric professor if you can. He is just a terrible educator. I would have expected more of a professional than him.
Although MS251 is a tough course, Sullivan gives you more than what you need to succeed. Work out quiz scenarios ahead of time and attend class MOST of the time and it is a very manageable course. Material applies to real world scenarios which I found to be extremely interesting.
It's nice how quickly he gives back graded work, but will not talk to you about what you got wrong, or explain it on returned papers. Grade consists almost entirely of quizzes which I personally hate, as you only have 510 minutes for the quiz which makes some impossible to do on time. Vague power-points that are overly long explain models.
Sullivan is a very straightforward guy. Lectures are the same and lab days are really helpful, but not mandatory. There is a quiz every week over what was covered the week before, but gives you a quiz prep for every one. I really enjoyed this class and would recommend Sullivan if you want to really understand stats.
Make sure you go to lab days. Make sure you graphs are correct and pay attention in class. I went to the TA outside of class SUPER!! helpful. Quiz every week no homework take that extra time to study. The final is really hard make sure you have your grades up to part by the end of the semester.
This class is so much work. So much work. Lab and SI days are unnecessary. Attend class or else you will fail the AandP quizzes. For quizzes, so the scenario to consider on the quiz prep. Its a lot of work, but it will give you nearly every answer on every quiz, including the exam. Sullivan means well. But he is a spaz. He needs to chill way down
Hes a complete jerk. Has zero compassion for students and does not care for their success in the slightest. Hes not a horrible instructor however he lacks people skills and was incredibly disrespectful to me when I would ask him questions.
Makes the class a lot harder than the material deserves. Classes are hard to get through but you've gotta go to them.
Online homework, quizzes, exams,or any other assignment you could not backtrack on to fix an answer if you realized you got it wrong.(assuming they are all online) Very difficult class. The only reason I passed is because of the SI leader. You don't learn from the professor you learn from the SI. No partial credit on online work.(just the beginning)
Same writer as before, good luck with him, he is the only one available to take this course with. work and study hard or you won't pass. Doesn't belong teaching this course. If you can WORK WITH OTHER PEOPLE on any assignments that you can. Make sure to have plenty of time for this. Quizzes are every week and heavily graded.
Make sure you do your quiz prep otherwise you will not have time to complete the weekly quizzes. Going to SI sessions and lab days helps you learn the subject matter better. Ask questions when you dont understand something. If you dont then you might not comprehend the material.
He does not explain the material and then throws in work that has us use excel and he has never even shown us excel before. You have 4 quizzes a week and you have to get 90% on them in order to unlock the next quiz. Some weeks I couldnt do it so I had to take zeros on 2/4 quizzes. I spend at least 10 hours a week working on this class.
Took the 8 week long MS 251 online course. Yes, there is lots of homework, BUT the homework does a very good job of preparing you to ace the modules. Even though this was the "weed out" course, sullivan does give you the tools you need to succeed. If you aren't succeeding in this class, it's because you are not trying hard enough. Work for it!
This class overall is tough, Sullivan had great lecture notes but this class is very time consuming, have 4 quizzes a week and 2/4 quizzes you have to get a 90% to unlock the next one. If you miss questions on the quiz it wont tell you what you get wrong. Quizzes turn into a giant guessing game and wasted so much time with no learning being done.
one of the best professors I have had at SIUE. He is dedicated to properly teaching and being a very down to earth professor who tells you how it is. roughly 4 quizzes a week with clear and easy grading criteria with steps to help you pace out the work to make it easier. He allows you to work ahead to finish the class early. In person not mandatory
Teacher is so difficult. You are learning both excel formulas and statistics at the same time but he only lectures on the statistics. You are expected to figure out excel on your own through a "lab activity" and youtube videos. He requires a 90% on each quiz before you can even move on (4 quizzes per week). Homework is extremely time consuming.
I did not enjoy this teacher at all. All 4 quizzes you had each week require a 90% to move on and you can't see what you get wrong. The workload was insanely excessive and you can't go back to check answers on tests. The final is 20% of grade and its hard to learn material. This class should not be required and only be online.
Challenging professor. Good person, everything else sucks. If you haven't noticed this professor 4 quizzes per week, 2/4 requires a 90% to access subsequent quizzes, it does not tell you what you got wrong. Lectures are good, and referred to a lot in the homework. Overall added stress will be fairly high, more so without prior Excel knowledge.
He will do everything possible for you to succeed. All quizzes and final exam are multiple choice and online. You can use your notes and presentations as well. You won't be able to see your mistakes, but can retake them infinite amount if times. There's also an enrichment session (optional to attend) that will help you grasp the material.
This class can be challenging, but Professor Sullivan provides helpful tools to succeed. The frequent quizzes are tough, but the lecture notes and optional enrichment sessions make up for it. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for studying.
