Great teacher! He is passionate about literature and helps you become a better reader.

He embodies Thomas Jefferson.

Great grades if your stance is acceptable to his. If not, forget it.
Very boring class. Although, it is easy to get an A if you apply yourself.
HE'S AN OLD STYLE, BORING LIBERAL! HE WANT US TO READ 25 PAGES STORY IN ONE NIGHT AND GIVE A STUPID POP QUIZ WITHOUT TELLING US!
Good teacher, though the reading could sometimes be incredibly boring.
He is cool. Can be boring sometimes, and he grades on his standars only. He pretty forgetful too! But I did enjoy his class!
He is so passionate about literature that sometimes you feel as if he is passing some energy onto you. His works are hard but they all are very worthwhile at the end, but don't expect to get an easy A. I tried it twice but never got one. He is just great.
He is truely an amazing teacher. He is enthusiastic about his subject, he knows a lot. The only draw back--he gets off subjet easily...has a lot of pop tests which are really easy if you read. I got an A and I didnt even work too hard. RECOMMENDED
Mr. Tarkington is a great guy and can be a good teacher. I didn't like his format of his creative writing class which consisted mostly of listening to him read classmates works and us giving our feedback.
you should know alot about english grammer and expect student as perfect.
This guy is old and grumpy and I really dont know how this guy is getting a smiley. I really think that he knows about this site and to show himself as a good teacher. Please dont take his class! We had 28 students and now its down to 8! I HATE HIM!! He is never organized. Just check his office!!
I found professor Tarkington to be a good teacher. The key to making a good grade in his class is to ask a lot of questions and go to his office for help. He will come off as being a hard teacher but if he see's that you want to do well he'll grade you easier. He's a good teacher.
I find the comments amazing. He is inconsistent, office help? How? His office is so crowded with crap there is no chair. We started with 28 students and ended with 8. Research paper? How about book report, call it what it is. I tried to remain open but he was not consistent with his syllabus, rude and judgemental. I had no problem with content
Mr. Tarkington puts the B in bad!!!!!! never ever take this horrible class, you'll love yourself for it later
I had this gentleman for Southern Literature. The book and expected reading wad interesting..Mr. Tarkington made it difficult with pop quizes, constant changes in his syllabus, and a horrific grading scale of your research paper. OUr class started with about 20 students and ended with 7. Avoid at all cost!!!!!!! Office is a mess!!

.If you too good in english then take him, otherwise he is too hard. He always give you reading assignmsents and the next day he give you quiz about that assignment, which has tricky questions. If you don't understand that reading assignment ,it means you gonna lose points.so it's good not to try this class.
Tarkington puts the "H" in horrible! He's quizes are unclear. He is not trust worthy.Does not stick to his sylabus.Does not care about his students best instrest at all.His office is not welcoming..so don't ever go to it.He was so bad I had to speak with his boss. Trust me, for your own good ..Do not waste your time atemping his class!please
Don't do it. Just don't. He is teched in the head. I'm not bitter, I'm not being inmature, I'm not a bad student, I made a B. I think he really liked me too. My goal was an A. He is VERY inconsistent.
Mr.T is a very good teacher.Of course he gives quizes on an reading assignment only to make sure students are reading and if you don't understand ask questions DUGH!Its an english class what do you expect to do in an english class?Math. All yall bad mouthin him are just lazy and 2 afraid to ask some questions cause your selfpride wont let you do so.
I took Mr. Tarkington three summers ago and I found him very helpful. It is a class with lots of reading but English is all about reading. Tarkington will help you if you are serious about school. I made an A and I earned it and if you want an A you will work for it too.
I don't recommend his class. His RESEARCH Paper is very hard ,gives you alot of stuffs to do just for a simple topic, very time consuming. He gives you quizzes from reading assingnments ,if you didn't read and didn't understand the assignment then you got bad grade.Ihated his quizzes.
Do not take his class he is not a good teacher at all! trust!
Prof. Tarkington is a very laid back sort of person. He gives tough assignments sometimes, but everything is generally well-laid out. As for his quizzes, be prepared to read or you can expect your grade to suck. But overall, his class is very helpful--that is, if you want to be helped.
Mr. Tarkington is a good teacher,if you would read your reading assignments and do your essays you would be fine. He likes when you ask questions so ask a lot of them. Good teacher. I would take him again for 1102. If he taught it.
He is a bit confusing at times but he is a good teacher.make sure you read all his reading assingnments and u will pass he always gives pop quizzes on those reading assingnments.his papers are not hard at all i got a's on most of them, but just be well prepared. i recommend him
Mr. Tarkington is a very great professor. He is very informative and works well with the students. I am an english major and I will definitely be taking his class in the future.
Inconsistent, not a pleasant class.
Stressful class,he has mood swings and very picky.
HE ROCKS HE'S A SWEET MAN AND HE BOUT HIS BUSINESS 2 THUNBS UP
His world literature class is difficult. There are many long reading assignments and lots of essays to write. Taking the class was stressful. But, he is a great teacher. He keeps all the stories that we read interesting. I do feel that I came out of the class as a better reader and writer.
Great class! Very sweet man who is extremely knowledgeable about literature. Make sure that you are prepared for class by reading the assignments. You will have reading quizzes and they will count as a test grade at the end of the semester. He is very willing to work with his students on the research paper! Easy and enjoyable class!
Tries to be cool, but kinda lame. pretty straight foward course. Alot of writing, he doesnt let you type things! that reakky killed me. Overall, pretty good teacher!!
its kind of hard to describe him...he's a good teacher but he is all over the place...he jumps around a lot in his lectures and tries to be funny but really it will leave u sratching ur head like "wat did he jus say"...lol..but i would recommend him...just make sure u do the work...1 thumb up...1 thumb in the middle...
He was an okay teacher at best. I liked the class, but that is because I like English as well as writing. The guy is not much help though, and you had better be ready for reading tests, which will happen at least twice. I got an A, but I still have to say that I didn't enjoy the class.
PLEASE I RECOMMEND YOU NOT TO TAKE HIM. HE CANT TEACH. HE FAILS YOU BIG TIME.
As a person he is the nicest, but grdes so hard. HE IS A PROFESSIONAL PROOF READER! Every little mistake he takes points off. I dont recommend it unless you enjoy writing. You have a new essay due every week and it counts as two test grades. Look around before choosing him.
pls don't take this guy.Hes very difficult professor. he checks every little mistake on the test and he takes of points. oh.. and you have write in class essay in each test.
Class was boring since there was no participation by others, perhaps since they did not do the readings. Read what is assigned, and you'll do fine in the reading quizzes and exams. Paper is super easy, but he is strict when it comes to MLA format. I would take him again.
I DO NOT REDOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE NOT EVEN MY ENEMY
He almost make me doubt myself aboout myselfI drop his class and I did Fine with the next teacher I got an A please do not take him you will regret it
He made me doubt myself I dropped his class and I did Fine with the next teacher I got an A please do not take him you will regret it
Same as everybody else. He is too difficult for no good reason. He is so critical. He makes you not want to write anymore
please stay away from him stay away from him. He is not helpful. Especially if you are ESL. student, forget it do not take him. because of him you will hate all literature classes.
He is the worst teacher that I have ever had. He has caused me to loose interest in writing all together. You can write 5 paragraphs of the cow jumped over the moon, and he will never read it. He is a proofreader by occupation so he is trained to look for errors. There is no extra credit or help. It is pass or fail, and most of his students fail.
He is not an easy teacher. You will do a lot of work. I took him in the summer and I was really tired. Though he wasn't easy, I learned a lot and found the class interesting. He does grade really petty. Takes off points for not having 1 inch margins or title directly centered on the page. Small mistakes WILL hurt your grade. A lot of people dropped
UM, Don't take this guy if this is your first college English experience... you will fail or have to drop.. He takes of a letter grade for every little mistake. He is unforgiving to ESL students. He forces you to write the way he likes. 5 paragraphs 10 sentences each. he will fail you. don't take him don't tak him do not take him...
he is a bad teacher...DO NOT TAKE HIM if u want to pass. English is such an easy course but he takes tht away and makes it difficult no one understands how he grades his essays...Please just stay away
Mr. Tarkington is tough if you just want to get by. Since I'm a good writer, I found his class extremely easy but perhaps he is better suited for honors courses.I learned a lot in his class and by taking it YOU WILL PASS the writing test if you take his "pointing out every error" and use it to your advantage. He will prepare you for REAL writing.
Very clear in what he wants, but very disrespectful. He treats his student like he is their superior, but he will teach you where a comma goes. If he wouldn't have such a bad attitude he wouldn't be getting a bad review.
please ran ran as fast as you can. He is a danger; do not take him ran for your life
I find it quite interesting that all of the negative comments about Mr. Tarkington are from students who obviously have trouble writing - note the errors in grammar and spelling!!If you do not have at least a basic grasp on reading and writing then you WILL have trouble in his class. Not my favorite teacher, but he is fair at grading. Got an A.
If you love english, you'll love him. Read your assignments, then read them again. He is a very knowledgable teacher, but he is disorganized. This was the hardest class that I have taken, but got an A. Hard work pays off no matter who the teacher is.
I recommend people not to take this professor! I love English & it's one of my fave courses but this professor is so tedious he makes you absolutely hate English. He grades harshly, he's poor at explanations of his work, & treats his student's like children. He's very unorganized & his appearance is awful, he often doesn't comb his hair.
I received an A, and I enjoyed the material that was covered in class. However, as a professor he's not helpful nor respectful. He does treat his students as inferior, and often "down talks" them. His assignments do take effort; therefore, you need to study and attend class.
He does really do reading checks, I thought it was a joke but he does. He is rude and cuts you off when your talking and he is a "know it all" type person. You write about 6 esssay & they count more than half of your grade! I wouldn't reccomend him, he is an okay teacher but not the best...
Don't like him. Not one bit. Awkward and talks WAY too much. You write essays and occasionally have a quiz over a chapter from the textbook. It's easy because he gives you like two whole class periods to write you essay. I'd take his class only because it's easy, but be prepared to handle the boredom.
Mr.Tarkington do not use his time well in class. He do not give students enought time to do essays in class because he want to do other assingments. Mr.Tarkington want to take a test before you write your essay, and He is not clear on want he expect from your essays and will mark off for very simple things (example spacing on your outline).
Really hard grasping information, Grades hard on essay!!
He is quirky and different but if you put in the time and listen, you will get a lot out of the class.
He has reading tests often; they are easy, but you have to keep up as much ground is covered. They make great study guides alongside in-class notes. Fun and enriching class, easy if you keep up. For learners, not lazy bums. Well chosen subject matter that is quite pertinent to "living a human life." I say take the class and decide for yourself.
He knows ALOT about literature and is very interesting and funny. If you want to learn something, take him. If you only want an easy A, don't take him.
Really good teacher
Very vague and kind of confusing
I feel that Mr. Tarkington is very fair and gives you what you put in. He is very strict on grading but if you do the work he asks you to do and listen in class things should go smooth. My only thing I would suggest a change in is the grading. He stresses to much on student trying to cheat, so he grades even harder in my opinion
He is very unclear on what he wants. He grades very harsh. He takes off points for everything. Even the spelling of the names of the characters in the plays you read. He is very boring and dry with teaching this subject.
He's really strict. Attendance is very important, the syllabus is and will be your best friend if you take his class.
lots of reading. textbooks are required to pass, goes over the stories but in the first half semester he does reading quizes. If students ask enough questions about the story, you can pass the quizes without reading. he uses the same notes all year round for 20 years in a row.same tests and same quizes. strict about the way he wants his papers
Hard grader, doesn't include everything in syllabus but wants to hold you to some imaginary scale he made up in his mind.
if you want to you improve your writing take him, very hard when grading papers doesn't help much not an easy class for 1101 because how he grades. all over the place not clear and. would not recommend him to anyone.
Tim Tarkington is a great professor, and actually a very funny guy once you're openminded. He takes extra time to build your fundamental skills, something he doesn't need to do. He is very understanding with attendance once the necessary channels are taken in notifying him. I definitely improved as a writer, and i definitely recommend his class!
He grades hard. Do your reading assignments, and follow his rules when writing. Overall, I don't recommend him.
Unless English is your major or you REALLY love writing, I would advise not to take his class. Good guy but not my type of teacher grades WAY to hard.
Professor Tarkington knows his subject very well. You will have to read all of his reading assignments in order to understand and pass his reading quizzes and tests. Yes, its a demanding class, but if you do your readings you should be fine. If you ask for help he is their to answer any unclear questions.
If you want to pass this class, have your work ready - even if it is not due yet! He is really unorganized and you need to be clear and ASK QUESTIONS, GET DEFINITE DATES THAT ASSIGNMENTS ARE DUE - and get proof (take a photo of it if possible). If you see things that are wrong, speak up, he'll give you credit for it. USE THE SYLLABUS!
Do NOT take Tarkington for English. He grades very hard and makes a beginning level English class way more difficult than it should be. If you're taking him, read your textbook, and get a tutor to review your work prior to submitting it. He makes student hate English instead of falling in love with literature and writing.
Dr. Tarkington is very knowledgeable about writing and about literature. I would definitely take him again.
I wish I would have known about this site before I took his class. I found him to be a bit "extreme" in his love affair of a particular author; yuke! Yikes! Would not recommend!
Probably one of the best professors I had during my semester. He's a bit of a hard ass, but he's crystal clear in the work he gives and what he expects of you. Don't be the person that half asses their paper at the last minute and get upset when he doesn't give a high grade. ALWAYS HAVE OUTLINES. Can be condensending and impatient, but overall good
Mr T. is not that bad if you ask for help, but he destroyed my G.P.A from a 4.0 to a 3.850. I was sad. He gives popup quizzes. You must follow the syllabus because it has chapters assigned for dates, and those dates are the popup quiz dates. Make sure you practice the essays before the date you write them(7 essays overall) +finals. Hard class.
Tim is always sarcastic, he never explains the material properly. He always has something negative to say. He is a tough grader, and then he gets mad when you don't understand the material, instead of trying to help you out. He is a bad teacher, do not take his class, unless you are planning to fail badly.
I loved him! and would take him again. He is a tough grader so if you hate to read and are lazy about learning don't bother. I carried my Norton Anthology everywhere I went and I really enjoyed reading "The Odyssey" and "Oedipus the King." Mr T made it fun and interesting! If you do the reading - the quizzes are easy. Just READ!
I came to him the day before the withdrawal period, i asked him should i drop the class. He guaranteed that my grade would improve, i finished the class with F! He told me that my F was a learning experience.
Biggest mistake!! I would not advise taking this class if you haven't been in a classroom for more than 5 years. It's been 10 yrs since i've taken English as a subject & he made it so hard. When asking questions he laughs, answers sarcastically not even answering the question. When reading the textbook be ready for NO feedback with a pop quiz.
IF U CAN HELP DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN!!!! He is very sarcastic. He talks down to you. He answers you in a negative sarcastic way. He will make u feel like a fool in class if u ask a question. He grades very hard on his teat . Yes I did pass that's by the grace of God. This is not agood teacher to take especially if you were born in the early 80's
Timothy Tarkington is the most disrespectful, uneducated, son-of-a-b I've ever met. He's rude and sarcastic. He doesn't care about personal issues; if you have any. He grading is REALLY tough, if you are late or absent to class because of something that cannot be changed, he doesn't care. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!
Timothy Tarkington is the most sarcastic person you will ever meet. When you ask him a question he will do his best to make you feel dumb, and still leave you lost. the work load is extremely heavy and will leave you gasping for air. if you want to graduate college do not take this man!!!!!!!
Be prepared!
Mr. Tarkington is a very tough grader. There is a lot of reading to do at the beginning of the course. There is an essay almost every week. He can be rough around the edges, but if you get to know him, you will understand that he really cares about you learning the material and wants you to better your writing skills. This course requires effort.
From the first day I go there, I ask if this is English class, and he says you interrupted me. I was absent for the first class and he told me that 3 absences will drop you a letter grade. On the second day there was a pop quiz, you will never get away with using your phone in class. From my first day I already knew where this was goingdont take
I would not take his class again. He was very sarcastic. I asked him to explain what I did wrong on a test he just told him that I got it wrong without really explaining it clearly. I did not enjoy going to his class.
This class was tough.. I managed to swing a high B , but it wasn't an enjoyable lecture. Tarkington is unorganized , forgetful, and sarcastic. If you have questions be prepared for a nasty or sarcastic response...
I don't know why everyone's complaining about him, he's a great teacher. He is a sarcastic person, but it's never bad enough to complain about. I've taken him for ENG1101, ENG1102, and creative writing and I love all of the classes. He's a little awkward, but he cares about how you're doing if you show enough interest in passing. A+
This teacher was rude and belittling the entire semester. He gave projects and would come up with random due dates and even add work the day before papers were due claiming it was given in the beginning. He does not follow the syllabus at all. Just read everything because you have no idea what he will decide to say you were suppose to read.
