Whoever says he grades too hard is probably just too lazy. I mean, you get 5 weeks to write each paper, and he'll definitly help you out with it if you go see him during his office hours. I'd definitly recommend people to take his class.

Excellent professor. He isn't a perfectionist he just expects a lot from you. If you work hard you'll ace it like me. I recieved a perfect grade on my last paper in that class so he isn't that bad people!

He's a very good professor in that his class will improve your writing greatly but for an English 1200 class it's too much work.

He was a butt at times and arrogant with his grading. For english you should get another teacher. For God sakes it's freshman english. It's not supposed to be hard.

Timm Hackett is a great English prof. He'll tell you how it is. Basically, get your stuff done, and you'll be fine. He's absolutely hilarious. Very helpful. Highly suggest taking him.

He is the most awesome ENGL professor on this campus. I said awesome, not easy. Only three papers, no tests and the exam is a freaking joke, but none-the less, awesome. I loved him. He's funny and tells it like it is. Don't be shocked at his total honesty on papers. Please watch the passive voice.

This class is really easy and it's enjoyable if you like to read. Hackett is awesome, he's really funny and makes the class enjoyable. He doesn't usually have class on fridays. I highly recommend him and i would take another class with him if i could.

I don't know who it is that is saying that he is a bad teacher. I look forward to his classes. Maybe its the class not being a WI course. But I enjoy every min of his class

As a professor, he's not scared to admit when he's wrong and will take the blame if he messed up (we do a lot of classwork online so there's a lot of room for error). He's a nice guy, gives really easy tests (whether he likes it or not) and we don't have class on Friday!

I think Professor Hackett really makes an effort to help his students adjust to college writing, while at the same time allowing them to write on subjects that they are passionate about.

He is very nice and tries to help. His class isn't that hard but its no joke either!

He's a nice guy always willing to help even after you are out of his class. He gives you step by step instructions and posts examples of "A" papers on line gives 4 papers and most are 2-3 pages

This was probaly one if the koolest teachers I've ever had...he likes to joke around and lets you do want to want to do for papers..theres no reading books...and class gets canclled here and there....and the peer group thing is pretty sweet..plus submitting paper online is kool....But dont be late when submitting them because he WONT take late work

Really nice professor. Peer groups helped a bunch and no class the week that papers are due since you submit papers online. He is very helpful and you should really take advantage of his office hours, he'll help you out. I really recommend him for your english professor!

Great professor, very helpful in person, so go to his office. I don't know if this was just with me but he was rather short and seemed irratable via email, but In person he couldn't have been more helpful. Demand him for english 1100 and 1200.

Pretty good teacher, kept class very entertaining, used the computer a lot and gave us new ways to do research. A tad unclear with how he wanted us to write our papers. Send in papers online, pretty cool. Sends THOUSANDS of emails.

This class really annoyed me. We never used any of the three books he made you buy and class always consisted of him standing up front flaunting his gadgets (laptop, wireless keyboard, blackberry, iphone, etc.) while rambling on about absolutely nothing. You write 4 papers total and he grades really really hard. dont take him!

Mr. Hackett is an incredible professor. While his Gender and Fairy Tales class is not easy, it's not completely hard. It is actually a very fun and interesting class, and being able to do a presentation rather than a paper really helped me understand the material and enjoy it!! I definatly recommend him for WOST 3510 Gender and Fairy Tales

Ehhh... this class was okay. Not toooo much work was expected, but was graded pretty tough. I ended up with a grade I was unsure about. Test/Quizzes and assignments are all online. Pretty cool dude.

Professor Hackett is a good professor if you want to learn how to become a true college writer. He is not always the best in answering questions by email, but very helpful in person. I worked hard to get an A on assignments and it is usually really hard to get an A. Take him if you want a good professor but you are willing to work!

TAKE THIS CLASS. He is a good teacher. He made us write papers mostly on our majors. This is benefical because you don't have to read stupid stuff nor write on things that don't matter. Attendance was not required bt attending class helps you on your paper. All in all he is a good teacher and he really cares about his work.

He is an excellent professor. He is passionate about what he teaches and genuinely wants his students to do well. His grading may be tough but I learned a great deal in his class. I felt more than prepared for English 1200 after taking his class. He listens to his students and gives you a lot of freedom with topic choices.

If you as the student are will to excel in English as a writer this man will help you get there, but as in all subjects it is our responsibility as students to get help, and he is more than willing with his helpful podcast and decent office hours.

He's a hard grader but is ALWAYS willing to help you if you are willing to ask for it. Classes aren't mandatory but he takes random attendance a few times. Very little textbook use. Really nice guy- I'd take him again.

Mr. Hackett is an awesome professor, but he makes you work for your grade. He makes some classes optional but to get a good grade it's best to go to the optional classes. He gives you time to work on your papers in class and gives you one-on-one feedback. He is definitely willing to help and wants you to succeed, but he won't just give you an A.

Four papers in the semester and you have to submit a portfolio at the end along with the final exam. The papers are more important than the final and all of the quizzes put together.

Professor Hackett is a very good professor. He is very clear at what he wants for each of his assignments and gives you pleanty of time to do them. This class had a total of 4 papers. Grades in a timely fashion and he has open workshops before the papers are due to get extra help. Would reccomend!

Mr. Hackett really pushes you to work harder than you ever would have on papers. This class was a really good learning experience about my major, and how to write certain kinds of papers. I mostly followed the examples of other students' paper that he provided and received grades within the A-B range. I definitely learned a lot from this class.

Timm Hackett is phenomenal professor. Although his grading is tough he WILL make you a better writer and for those going into a health science career becoming a better writer is so important. Not only will he teach you how to write properly but he teaches numerous life lessons that can really open up your view of the world and your education.

I took Timm Hackett a few years ago, my freshman year, and I am now well into my graduate program. I must say that I would not be the writer I am today without him. He is a strict grader, however if he wasn't, I would not be where I am today. Take him if you want to benefit from it for the rest of your career.

Take Prof Hackett!!! Such a kind person and actually cares about his students. He is a tough grader, but that is how I became a better writer. I accidentally plagiarized on one of my papers and I had to retake the class with him. It was the best decision I've made in college. He helped me so much, and I know he really cared about my future.

If you don't have time to commit yourself to write 4-5 papers then don't take this class. He gives you plenty of time to write each paper but you really have to commit yourself to it because he grades it REALLY specific and hard. He really made me a better researcher and you actually do learn great tips and strategies in this class.

Timm Hackett is an amazing professor. I can say he is a tough grader, but in the long run he will prepare you for upper level writing, which is what you want. Best teach I have ever hard. Currently in his 2201 class and so far he has been very helpful. Super funny guy and without a doubt has already made me a better writer. He genuinely focuses on bettering you as a person to be successful in your future. If you can take this class with him, DO IT.

Hackett is one of the best professors I have had at ECU. English has always been my best subject, but in his class, I struggled. He is a tough grader, however his overall goal is not to give you a bad grade, but to make you a better writer. He made me a better writer, and I like how organized he is with due dates, I never felt rushed on papers.

This is my second time taking Professor Hackett. He is such a great teacher and really makes you a better writer. He gives plenty of time to complete your papers. Prof. Hackett is my favorite professor I've had. He gives you weekly to-do lists which are extremely helpful. He also gives great feedback when giving your papers back which is where a lot of prof. fall short. If you follow his lecture instructions for the papers and the paper examples there is no reason you should get below a B in his class.

One of my most challenging classes at ECU but also one of the most beneficial. Professor Hackett is an expert at what he does and as long as you follow his directions and weekly schedules you will do great. He gives you the grade you work for and open workshops are really helpful, go when you can. Don't jump ahead or get behind.

Timm is an excellent instructor. He highlights what is due each week and keeps to a schedule. Make use of the examples he provides, share your papers with him, and pay attention to the podcasts and you should do fine. He clearly tells you what he wants. Many people talk about him being hard on plagiarism; that is his job and yours as the student.

Timm is by far my favorite professor I've had at ECU. He is a tough grader, but genuinely wants you to learn from his critiques. He's the type that can turn a brief interaction after class into a source for your paper. Being an active listener is what makes him an amazing professor. Make sure you stay with (or ahead of) the timelines given!

I took this class my freshmen year and it was online. the professor is clear on what he wants and expects. Throughout the 8 weeks, we had three papers. the first two papers were 2-3 pages and the last one 4-5. we also had weekly quizzes that help with the grades. the majority of the grades were the three papers but he gave feedback before grading.

As long as you turn things in on time and follow the instructions, the class is very manageable. He gives a lot of great feedback on each paper, and his office hours are super helpful.

This was the first english class i've taken at ECU, I struggled to understand what we wanted in papers but after an office hour visit it became clear that Mr.Hackett wants you to succeed. There are 4 main papers you will write, he's looking for you to revise make sure you have time because that makes all the difference.

However, he is a very nice guy and wants to form a relationship with students so that he can help us succeed not only in this class but other writing classes. His philosophy is that grades dont matter in years to come.

I could put many tags on this if able. I loved him as a professor, the class in general is very difficult and he makes it known at the beginning. He is very compassionate about his class, he even has a second phone number for the class. The papers are long but he gives plenty of time, it is hard to earn a high grade though
