Very entertaining. A grammar class that was enjoyable.
Even though i was a lousy student, i felt that i actually learned something in his class. He has personally helped me a lot with my course work!I'd recommend this professor to any student who is going to take PROW210.
Attending his class was very enjoyable and entertaining. I especially enjoyed the personal tales of woe in the workforce.
A lot was learned in his class, and I shall miss it
Great! He was very funny and very interesting. He was very helpful (and talkative) outside of class. Best teacher ever. I actually looked forward to 8:00 a.m. on Wednesdays. His only downfall was an abstract, sometimes incomplete coverage of the material. Reading the textbook is essential.
Great instructor! He was interseting in class and I acutally looked forward to going to each class. His class may be harder than other sections, but it is worth it for Mr. Anderson and the knowledge you retain!
All the students that were in my PROW100 class went to school for design. He really tailored the course material to our visual style of learning and made the class interesting with personal stories and jokes. He's a conscientious instructor that knows his stuff well. Keep it up Mr. Anderson! You rock!
Mr. Anderson is one of those rare professors that you stumble upon in academia that restores your faith in post secondary. He takes very dry material and makes it interesting. This is not the easiest class, there are quite a few assignments. You need to work hard for a good grade, but this is one of those profs you find yourself wanting to impress.
Tough marker but you will learn to write better and notice how many of your friends make so many simple grammar mistakes! Worth it. He is an interesting character but a great professor. Attendance is not mandatory but try to attend as many classes as possible.
Mr. Anderson taught me a lot about business writing and how to be professional. While his exams were extermely hard this assignments were not very hard. I'm actually going to miss this class!
Very knowledgeable. Timothy has a lot of experience that he brings to the table. He is very understanding and helpful to those who ask for it. I definitely retained a great deal of knowledge from this class. He even greeted me the next semester which was nice that he remembers his students. Shows passion in his work.
Good luck, very hard raker, never stays on topic.
Probably the least helpful class I've ever taken. He is to focussed on grammar and not business practice. If you take any other prof for this class do it!! Very hard marker.
WORST not helpful at all never hands assignments back hard marker never stays on topic absolutely learned nothing about business writing he only cares about grammar and he is sorta rude towards the class very unprofessional
This may be the worst prof at Grant MacEwan, Stay clear from his class at all cost. He is a useless teacher, you don't learn anything and his exams are hard and irrelevant to the text book. Absolutely TERRIBLE prof you will regret being in his class.
goes off topic in class and marks extremely hard on papers.... this was supposed to be a GPA booster, but it became a mediocre class.
I would not recommend taking this prof. I personally had a terrible experience in this class. He does not teach things relevant to the text book, his assignments are ridiculous he doesn't use marking rubrics, so you have no idea how you got your grade it seems like he just hands out a grade based on how he likes you and your grammar. AVOID him!
I am so unhappy with this prof. His tests are so irrelevant to the textbook. It takes at LEAST a month to get an assignment back. That is ridiculous, and should be changed in his course outline instead of 2 weeks. Stay away. Goes off track a lot, and calls you out in class for grammar probs or mispronounced words. Very rude!!!!!!
This prof is not diligent at all. Avoid if possible.
teaches you to write functional english and to sound smart, which is pretty relevant for any business career. glad we didn't use the textbook.
Avoid this class! Late assignments, hard marker, off topic.
WORST PROF YET!! Avoid at all costs. Similar to what has been mentioned he did not give back assignments on time, ridiculous marking guides, very rude to students, and not what I expected from a professional writing class. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
Having a diverse background of experience, he is able to provide many real life examples of business writing, making the course interesting and relavant. He makes an effort to build rapport with every student, and readily availible to answer any questions about assignments. Not an "easy" class but work hard and you will succeed in this course.
He's a great prof. The assignments aren't easy and he is a tough grader but he wants you to succeed and is always willing to lend a hand--you just have to ask. He has a lot of life experience which makes his lectures interesting and kind of funny.
Great prof. Very helpful in-class and provided beneficial and specific feedback.
Having Mr. Anderson as a prof is like repeatedly being stung by a radioactive scorpion. It hurts like hell but for some reason also gives you superpowers. His feedback is equall parts brutal and fantastic. He will tear apart your best work while offering a few suggestions that end up making your writing perfect.
Amazing teacher that gives great monologues at the beginning of every lecture.
Anderson is a really interesting prof, but with that being said I won't take another class with him. Our only practice was on tests and he was extremely vague when explaining assignments. Also a lot of the times he talks more about his stories than the actual course material. Cool guy but ridiculously hard class, it killed my GPA.
Very funny! Makes class interesting. He's also very willing to help if you need it. Great Prof!!
Attending lectures did nothing for me--the books got me through. His tests are where most of your learning will happen because lectures consist of stories vaguely related to course content. Timothy can often come across as condescending and seems to enjoy stressing students out. He's a tough grader and takes way too long to hand back assignments.
Timothy Anderson is a nice person who cares for his students and seemingly enjoys his profession. The downside of taking a PROW 210 is the course material and the work based around it.
Timothy is obviously passionate about editing and his lectures are interesting--though usually off topic. But his essay topics are bizarre, his tests don't relate to the lectures, he takes FOREVER to hand back assignments, and he is super vague about what he expects on assignments. Honestly, I wouldn't take a class with him again.
Felt too much was required from us for a "business writing" class. Learned a lot though.
Good teacher, good sense of humour
When a Prof docks your paper because he doesn't personally agree with what your paper argues, despite having sufficient resources to argue for it, that is probably a sign that something is up there. Additionally, the topics are extremely specific, to the point where finding any sources may be difficult. Overall, not an enjoyable experience.
I love Timothy! This is my second class with him. He genuinely cares about his students and their grades, enough to memorize everyone's names on the first day. He's funny, marks fairly, and pushes you to be the best version of yourself. 10/10 would take again.
THE WORST EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD IN A UNIVERSITY CLASS. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. HIS CLASS IS A NIGHTMARE. I swear he makes fake reviews raving about his, "hilarious monologues" and, "FUNNY STORIES". He is so vague about group projects. His essay topics are so specific and bizarre. He will pick on you in class and pick your group members. AWFUL.
Dude makes the class about himself. He could teach better if he wasn't spending the whole class figuratively sucking his own D. His stories are irrelevant and hes just trying to brag. Does things differently than any prof then craps on normal profs, cuz yeah its fun to learn how to be a student again.
This was probably one of the worst classes I have had to take in my entire university career. He cares about writing which is great but for a 200 lvl course its a little extreme. Sent emails about assignments and received vague information and a paragraph of how my email wasn't professional. If you are in English/Arts take this class. Business? Run
In all my years of schooling I have never seen a teacher so self absorbed. He is brash, rude, and suffers from an inferiority complex. There are plenty of capable teachers at MacEwan, there is no reason anyone should be willingly take his classes. If by chance there was no other prof available and you're reading this.... I wish you luck.
Timothy's lecture content did not address any of the readings he assigned. He mostly discussed his personal life and provided no visual aids because "he does not learn that way". He grades heavily on APA formatting (loosing 10% for 1 error in the reference list). Expect to learn the material on your own. I would avoid taking any of his classes.
Annoying prof. Not only because of his voice cracking every 2.5 seconds but his pretentious attitude that he is better than not only his students but everyone residing on earth. I wouldn't even suggest this class to my worst enemy. You've been warned!
at this point in the semester he should have run out of material to talk about himself... i have never unwillingly learned so much about a teacher. This must be therapeutic for him.. kinda sad really... you make enough hire a shrink talk about pertinent information about the course for a change...
Avoid him if you can. No one in our class knows what is going on, and many people opted for skipping rather then hear him lecture pretentiously about himself for 120 minutes. He hasn't graded any papers in over 6 wks so no one knew what their grades were before our final; he also hasn't provided any information on our final prior to the exam.
Mr. Anderson has been the most quirky professor I've had during my post-secondary career. He's chock-full of stories, and certainly knows what he's teaching, but his stories can get off track. As far as the content goes, while he's an expert at his craft, he's not one to put up notes on the board, so be certain to listen so you don't miss anything!
At first I was scared to take this class with Timothy but as time passed I learned to actually like him. He does talk heavily about his own experiences but he's funny which helps with how dry and boring the class gets. He's late to hand back assignments/papers but when you get it back, he marks forgivingly and offers great feedback.
Long wait for grades. Was given an essay in October and he only started marking around final exam time (mid-December) still haven't gotten it back. Due dates were shifted because of poor time management. Does not provide anything for notes he just talks at the class. Taking notes is a nightmare if you miss something he said I wish you luck.
Mr. Anderson is a nice enough guy and hopes for his students to succeed; however, his lectures are a bit messy. He talks the entire class about his personal experiences which leave you wondering what the purpose of story was and how it relates to the class. However I do think that I am better off having taken this class as it has helped me improve.
Mostly just frusturating that he doesnt give you any feedback until you complete these 4 silly quizzes that dont tell you anything.
There are really only two things that a young woman needs to know if she's taking Timothy's class: the university knows about his problems, and nothing is done. This cite is just like university, it won't let me tell you what he does.
This is by far the worst teacher i have had an Macewan. He is stuck as a sessional instructor for a reason. Avoid this guy at all costs. he uses his classes to fill the gaping hope in his personality.
This class was an weird experience... If you take is class you'll know what I mean
He's nice enough, but I think he struggles with addressing the needs of his students. I found it very hard to follow him in his class as he can get pretty scattered. His expectations also felt pretty unreasonable. I think he forgets that his class isn't the only one that his students are taking, so he gets carried away with assignments and readings
The worst professor at macewan hands down. Tries to make himself feel good by telling bad jokes and flexing his "communication skills". Enforces useless grammar and grades you so hard. 0/10
If Toby from the office was a prof, he would be Timothy
Tim's an interesting prof, he has a difficult sense of humour and has critiques your writing if you have a single punctuation out of place. Useful for learning the course but extremely frustrating. If you end up taking Tim as a prof you'll understand what I mean.
He is professional, funny, and quirky. Classes were mostly a lot of stories, he is very good about sharing anecdotes and clear examples from his work experience. The only bad thing was that he takes a looong time to grade, but I learned a lot and enjoyed this class.
Steer clear of this guy if possible! He seems to enjoy elevating himself at the students expense. The group projects are ridiculous and very little direction is given for them. He does not provide clear examples or rubrics on what he expects so it leaves you in the dark and then he speaks down to you when you ask for direction. Very frustrated.
Dont take this class with Tim if you were told PROW210 was easy. He used to create textbooks and is a very critiquing individual because every error catches his eye. His exams make zero sense as he barely covers anything in his class and doesnt reference you to anything in the textbook. Very bad experience. He hasn't even marked our first papers.
Mr. Anderson is the most interesting prof. Ive ever had!! I laughed and genuinely enjoy allot all his lectures.. some were a little dry and long winded. Yes he likes to talk about himself ! Yes he has strange sense of humour. But his teaching methods were fantastic!! Just not your typical academic professor and that ROCKS!!!
Anderson is a great Prof! I understand that it may not seem that way to a lot of people, but he's highly knowledgable in what he does. If you ask questions, he will answer them with enthusiasm. Remember that grammar courses are never fun, Anderson makes it as applicable to life. He marks every mistake, but only grades the ones we discuss in class.
Tim does a lot of telling and a lot less showing, i.e., he tells you what to write, but doesn't give students examples of structured articles they can use as guidelines for assignments. He'll doc you on opposing opinion pieces. His grading process lacks in attention, and I had to conduct outside research to understand his terminology for the class.
Timothy is literally the most useless instructor in the Communications Program by far. The man is so egotistical and pompous. When you see him after class for help, he still just talks about himself and also purposely makes you feel inferior and goes out of his way to embarrass you when youre lost or ask questions. MacEwan should honestly fire him
His tests make no sense, there exist no clear criteria to follow for exams. Bad group members are not held accountable for their actions. The illusion that he cares about his students is prevalent in the entirety of the class. Do not take this class, you'll be confused every day wishing you had a drink and a dip to get you through it. STAY AWAY
I went to class every day and tried hard, but what a terrible experience. I loved the content of his class, actually loved doing the assignments, but he graded me in a way that was so degrading and hurtful. He mentioned things in the remarks such as I had to stop reading, couldn't finish your essay or wouldn't expect this bad from a third year.
Worst professor I have ever had. This class was a 1st year class and he graded us like 4th. Completely useless when classes went online, often leaving us without info for weeks at a time, even when we had midterms. I learnt nothing from this guy as he only talked about how great he was all class. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
I think the biggest struggle I've had with him though is his unclear expectations. He doesn't really get to the point. He embellishes a lot in his writing and you have to use a lot of mental energy to really figure out what he wants. When people ask for clarification, he usually tries to be clever and witty and ends up confusing you more.
Horrendously disorganized, seems to have no idea what he's doing when it comes to setting up the class. Always late and never ready. Gives vague answers and instructions, his assignments make no sense, and his lectures are pointless, boring, condescending, meandering wastes of time. Avoid if you can.
Absolutely the worst professor I had, assigns 25 separate assignments and refuses to mark any of them before the end of the semester so there is zero feedback. Would fail to explain how to count to 10 let alone any sort of academic paper, be warned that he will spend all class stroking himself off with irrelevant stories and do no course work period
Absolutely brutal, expected you to read the textbook front to back. Went to the first couple of lectures and realized instead of lecturing us about the class he talks about himself like I care about his personal life. Doesn't even understand what he is assigning us as I couldn't get clear instructions out of him all semester, Avoid him like COVID
This guy taking a lot of heat for no reason. Show up, pay attention and you'll be fine. He's a very reasonable grader.
Although Timothy Anderson is a very vibrant prof that always has a positive attitude, he's an extremely tough grader. His exams also consist of material from the textbook, which he doesn't explain in detail/at all. You need to read and take notes on the entire textbook by yourself. His instructions are also very broad. Not a bad prof overall.
A difficult grader, if you show up to his classes and pay attention you should be fine. Tests are heavy on the textbook material, so read the textbook and you will be good. He is a vibrant professor, and tries to make the class engaging, very hard marker though.
No feedback on any assignments - if they get marked at all before the end of the semester. Talks about himself all class and teaches you nothing aside from how fantastic he thinks he is. If you want to do well in the class, sacrifice your own self-worth and morals and suck up to him and do assignments that will boost his ego.
I would not recommend this prof. At the beginning of the semester, I realized quickly that I would not attend his classes because he talks more about himself than the class materials. He gives little to no instructions about what to do on assignments. He also barely gives grades back. It is annoying being in his class.
This professor is very vibrant at first however can be quite rude responding to questions, during class once a girl asked a question and he made a rude comment in response to her. He is also a tough grader, however if you do all the assignments and read the textbook you will be fine. He also talks himself majority of the class so be aware of that.
I wouldn't fully recommend this professor. There's little guidance on assignments, and feedback is rare. However, he does allow the use of AI, which is a nice touch. The final exam is particularly difficult. He can also be rude when responding to questions, which makes the class uncomfortable at times.
The class itself was not challenging, but the exams were difficult. Study the grammar/sentence structure. Group projects were randomly assigned, and I had a hard time finding support from him when my group wasn't doing their portion of the work. Grades were returned really late, and a large portion weren't returned before the final.
Dont take this class.
This class was a masterclass in ego, not ethics. The prof fixated on his own achievements, insulted students and colleagues, and called himself a “transparent manipulator.” He demeaned our work while feigning humility. Ironically, he taught ethical practice while displaying none. A truly exhausting, self-serving experience.
Timothy has been late to almost every class. His assignment instructions are very vague and when you ask for further details or guidance he says to use your discretion. Upon using your discretion he gives a mediocre grade and no feedback. He does NOT respond to emails in a timely manner. To top it all off he takes a decade to grade.
Professor Anderson is a really easy grader but his lectures weren't great. His mini quizzes require the textbook and he will allow you to do them from home. A lot of writing, and a lot of homework. I would try to find a different professor for this class if you can.
1)Do not take his class unless good at English. 2)Gave back grades 2 months later. 3) I had 2 things marked going into the final. 4)Beware of taking in the morning he is naturally loud and will randomly yell to get attention. 5)For group projects he makes the groups for you. 6)Tests are long, hard and mainly on the mandatory textbook.
