Very hard class. Took it once, got an F. Took it again, and *actually tried*, and got an A. It takes a lot of effort, but it's worth it. Very interesting class. Clear, passionate lecture style. I learned a lot.

It's like trying to drink from a firehose - he puts out information constantly for every minute of class. Very hard tests. But if you're there to learn, there's an incredible amount of knowledge to be had.

WOW!! This is a SERIOUS class. The information is NONSTOP in class. He's a little wierd, but very funny and makes it real fun to be there. BUT, if you're not going to TRY to learn it all, don't even waste your time, you'll drown. But a very good teacher!

Extremely difficult class. Even if you study and take perfect notes you can fail this class. He has no mercy on his students. He is very entertaining but his class is very high pace and extremely hard. Don't take geography with him.

He's my favorite teacher so far! He's hilarious... I thoroughly recommend taking his class although it is definitely a difficult one. All you have to do is study and you'll be fine. Take good notes and follow the headings on the side of the board.

He does not explain the homework well at all. He waits until the class is over to give the assignment,and always tells students if they have questions, see him during office hours. I would not recommend taking any classes with him.

I hated this teacher, All of his tests are based on his notes, I happened to study for five hours on that material took the test and failed. He's and egomaniac who loves to here the sound of his own voice. I would not reccommend any one taking his class

Cliff Expects students to learn the material and study the material on their own. He lectures for the ENTIRE class (never lets you out early)....and then you go from there. Your grade is soley based on 3 HARD exams (a a couple map quizes)....he comments on how tons of his students fail. Not helpfu

Some people like Pamela Anderson, some are more a Julia Roberts type. You either love this guy, or you hate him. While his tests are difficult, he does his best to prepare you, and he's genuinely enthusiastic, which is a rare commidity as far as community college professors go.

Dont expect this class to be easy. There are 3 exams and 2 mini quizes at the beginning of the semster. That is all your grade is based on. Cliffe seems to be on crack but I think he is just passionate about his subject. Could be a good class if you are an aspiring meteorologist!!

He talks a lot but doesn't interact much or egage the class. Map quizzes are difficult because you have to create your own key - kind of a lot of work - other instr's supply the key. Also expect difficult tests and little to no extra credit. Seriously, choose another GEOG instr.

The tests are demanding and if you don't go to class and take good notes then you won't do well. He makes the subject interesting but If you don't like being in class up to the last minute or even overtime in a lecture then don't take his. He is funny though and I enjoy it.

Great Teacher, Knows a lot about California. People in the class with me had trouble staying awake & interested, but I loved the lectures and found myself leaving each day with new knowledge. If you actually show up and fill in his handouts/notes then take time to cram before the 3 tests you will do just fine. I got an A.

Tim is the greatest teacher I've ever had. His enthusiasm for the subject matter is infectious. Expectations are high; but if you take the class seriously you will get a ton out of it. Grades you on 3 big test and a 3 map locations quizes. Lectures a lot, his notes are messy, be sure to use different colors to help you with your notes. Book is not too useful and doesn;t help too much for your test. His test are hard, so you need to study your note and understand them, not just memorize.

A funny, very animated guy. Tests are hard, but he makes you know the stuff if you want a good grade. Book does help clarify because he can be a little messy in the lecture & notes, & not always make sense. I did end up understanding and now know why it rains and how clouds form! Colored pens are helpful too.

What a character! Even if you are not interested in the subject, just watching him run around the front of the room like a crazy person will be entertaining enough! He is very enthusiastic, and knows his subject as well as any subject can be known. Not an easy class, but you will learn LOADS!

I had physical geography with Tim and had a blast, so I took his meteorology class the semester after. He is a solid teacher; probably the best geography teacher at Grossmont. He is a master at explaining the concepts and material. He's also very entertaining! If you don't study, you will fail. I would recommend him over any other professor.

With words like "Bitchin" and his hyperactivity, this teacher keeps you awake. We had a 3 hour class at night and he did a great job. Use your notes and you will survive without reading the book. But to get an A, you must read.

One of the best teachers I've had at Grossmont. Took a night class and his energy kept me awake. Very funny, and explains things well. I had almost no interest in this subject, and I ended up loving the section on meteorology. I wish I could take more with him.

If anyone likes this teacher you clearly haven't had a good teacher yet. His lectures are boring, he's a spaz, and he constantly repeats the phrase, "you learned this is 7th grade." Excuse me, how do you know what I learned? He thinks everyone is a geog nerd and follows with what he is talking about, and if you don't you must be an idiot.

He is an interesting guy. He has kinda boring lectures from time to time, but you have to be there everytime and study a lot to keep up with everything. He refers to most everything he teaches to be "Middle School" stuff, it's not. Hes good, but make sure you have enough time to dedicate to his class. and you only get points from tests. :(

A spaz, you have to sit through a 2.5 hour lecture before you can take a test or quiz. There is no extra credit which is a bummer. I don't recommend you take this class if you have a full course load this class requires alot of reading and studying.

Tim is the very definition of "teacher" and is very good at what he does. There are only two midterms and the final, no homework. The final is NO JOKE so if you don't know the material, it will be extremely challenging. His lectures are so interesting, because he brings so much energy. Excellent teacher, highly recommended.

Took his Intro to Meteorology in Fall 2003. Gave the homework out after lecture, didn't clearly explain how to do it. If you had questions, his famous words are" see me in my office". C'mmon there was 15 minutes in between our class and your next one and you couldn't give a little time to explain homework and answer questions?

I took an intro to meteorology with this professor and I have to say that he is the best professor I have ever had. I will be finishing a master's degree in a few months and have had many years of college and no other professor can compare to him. He rocks, period.

He is by far the worst teacher I ever had. He doesn't like taking questions during class so if you don't understand something in the lecture, you have to ask him after class. I have received all A's in all my other classes and I received a C in his class. He makes the subject very boring. Do NOT take him!

Super spaz. If you sit in the front row, beware. Paces all over the classroom. Waited until 9:45 to give a quiz in a class that ends at 9:50. Always asking us to do something when the class is OVER. Draws out elementary concepts to make lecture long and booring. Thinks he is funny. Rarely is. Make sure to study and take notes.

This guy is nutty. He paces around the class on his and cracks "jokes" and uses different voices every chance he gets. However, he does teach Meteorology very well and he makes it seem a lot simpler than it probably is. Just make sure to take tons of notes and go over them constantly. Every day you will be taking notes all period.

This professor is a funny son of a gun. He makes the class very interesting. He gives "not-so easy" exams but if you study hard, then you will get an "A". He does give homework often, but if you don't understand it; he is willing to help you understand it well. He's a nice guy. I recommend this class anyone trying to fulfill a GE requirement.

Tim is a great teacher. He treats you like a college student and teaches you with the expectation that you will pay attention read the material and study. The class is fast paced and fun! Meteorology is a tough class. You must pay attention and thoroughly understand the material. 3 Tests = Grade. He is a very sporadic and all over the place with his teaching. I do not recommend him. So if it isn't for your major, I wouldn't recommend taking it. Not too many assignments but requires A LOT of study time and you should read the assigned readings, which is a ton. lots of easy quizzes, 3 exams, map assignment. all he does is draw diagrams and your notes are a mess. really all over the place. he gives a outline before a exam but its unclear WHAT will be on exam. exams are hard. book was pointless. ive taken him twice and am going to another district to take geology.

There are outlines for tests given weeks in advance which directly state what will be on tests. His well thought-out diagrams easily illustrate difficult concepts. Notes follow the previously mentioned outlines. He offers insightful office hours. In all seriousness, if you can't pass this class, I doubt you can tie your shoe.

I looked forward to going to his class every week. I didn't do very well because meteorology just doesn't click very well for me but Cliffe is an AWESOME teacher. Hilarious, helpful and is my favorite teacher at grossmont. You have to study hard for his tests because the class itself is difficult but he was extremely helpful and clear.

Overall, he seems like a very good guy in person. He is very enthusiastic and absolutely hilarious. However, his teaching is rather confusing. I would not recommend anyone taking this class if you do not like math and are not majoring in the subject. It was very difficult to get help on the labs.

His notes are very unorganized, his tests are hard, and he expects a lot for a 3 unit class. I wouldn't take him again, i barely passed the class.

I took Tim's class in summer school, which turned out to be great: even though a 4 hour class, it went fast fast fast!! And, he gave really helpful pop quizzes before the last few exams, which were a big help because they had extra credit AND Tim let us do them group style and my group became my amazing study group, which really helped on exams!

This was an outstanding class. The course is about the world around you - stuff you see every day - only now you can understand what is going on! Prof. Cliffe's lectures are super informative - very clear. Take good notes and you'll do fine. And he gives lots of opportunities (extra credit) to raise your grade. I highly recommend this class!

Tim is a bit eccentric, but he is hilarious! Definitely makes a dry class fun. The labs are long though; most of the time we did not have enough time to finish them in class and had to do them as homework. The 2 exams are also long, and required a lot of time and work. Tim has a lot of experience though, and it shows during his teaching. Good luck!

Prof. Cliffe is a pretty easy going professor. His class is self-explanatory, but its necessary to go to each class (ALL tests are based directly off his lectures). You don't need the textbook unless you plan on missing class, and a lot of the time, if you show up on a quiz day/do the online video lectures he will double, even triple the points.

He is HILARIOUS. The lab sucks because it's a long class and it's on stuff you don't really care for, but his energy keeps you awake for it. He's a really good professor and tries to get to know all his students well. You have to try to not get an A. He gives you a ton of extra credit and it really helps out when the midterm comes around.

Tim Cliffe is the best teacher I have had at Grossmont college, he is funny, his lectures are very energtic, I actually end up really liking the subject. although his class was super hard especially his labs, theres only midterms and finals but it takes 3 hours or more to finish, very strict on grading, hardest teacher i had, but I learn so much.

Took him for an online class and not only was it extremely difficult, but he sent out multiple emails about things that more than half the class didn't do well on, and told us that we were bad students. The video lectures are mediocre and he doesn't explain things very well when you ask for further help.

I really enjoyed his lectures and the topics. Tests are a huge part of your grade, be sure to study long before test and start a study group. I found that I needed to practice explaining the material to another person, in order to truly understand it. If you want an easy A for no effort, this class (and college?) is not for you.

Lectures are repetitive and sometimes talks about irrelevant topics, for example we spent 3 days talking about the axis of rotation. This is not one of those easy online courses. You have to watch lectures, take notes, and STUDY! Tests are on campus, and closed notes. Tests are worth 65% of grade. This professor gives you everything needed to pass this class with a good grade. I got a B+ and definitely slacked in the middle of the semester and didnt study as much as I should.

This professor is rude and condescending. His notes are unclear and unorganized. He doesn't use canvas so it's very difficult to keep up to date with your grades. I did not enjoy his class, but I took a 6-week fast track online course. There were way to many videos in way too little time and you had to watch every single one to pass. Cliffe is an amazing person, but somewhat falls short as a professor. This class isn't an easy A primarily because the material is convoluted/confusing. Sometimes his teaching is great, other times not. It did not help that he'd get you on technicalities and unclear phrasing of questions. Unless you're into geography, take a different science class

I took Geography 120 over the summer, which is a lot of work because it is a full semester squeezed into six weeks, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Took his course over the summer. The workload was light and very simple, but his lectures were at least 2-3 hours long each week. Assigns map quizzes that are short-timed but are very easy. As for the exams, they are very heavy and difficult, so taking good notes is your only hope of getting a high grade. He also recycles questions.

Be prepared to watch A LOT of lecture videos. He tests on stuff mentioned in his tangents. Don't take if focusing on longwinded lectures is not your cup of tea. Mr. Cliffe is one of the funniest profs I've ever had. The lectures were super engaging for this reason. Made a science class very fun for someone who doesn't like science that much. If you're an athlete, specifically a football player, I would highly recommend taking him. Wish I could have him as my professor for every class.

Professor Cliffe is hands down one of the most entertaining, caring, enthusiastic, funny, and outgoing professors that I have ever had. The course is definitely focused on lectures and note taking, as notes are worth 10% of your final grade, but the lecture materials are so entertaining that you feel like you're watching Bill Nye all over again!

I loved this teacher so much. theres little to no homework, just be prepared to take very thorough notes on videos and any material your'e given. The tests are very specific, but very easy if you know the material and study your notes well. He gives good feedback on tests and exams, and is interesting in his presentations/recorded zooms.

One of the best professors I've had! He cares about your success. The course is difficult BUT he gives you everything to prepare for the exams. IF you study the material, you will pass! I preferred this course online because it allowed replaying the lectures and grasping everything better vs the classroom. Don't hesitate to email/reach out!

Lectures are super engaging,funny, and attention grabbing. Also very passionate and caring for his students. Emailed my whole class individually about our test scores and anything we could do to improve or congratulated us on good work. Emailed him over a weekend and gave an in depth response within an hour. Hard class, but would totally recommend.

Professor Cliffe is amazing, very caring, and wants his students to connect with the material. This class is difficult but only because there's a lot of information. The lectures are awesome! Take good notes, they will be a lifesaver during exams and you get credit for them! He is always available to answer questions if you need help.

Super great, caring, and reached out to offer any help. I did drop the class because I did not need it but you can tell he cares about what he does. Lecture heavy and a handful of work if you aren't used to that, but a great man. Definitely recommend his class if you're interested in geography.

Professor Cliffe does care about his students and class. However, he completely overwhelmed weekly assignments with 6-8 15-minute lecture videos weekly. Which would then be applied to a worksheet and quiz. While I appreciate his clear enthusiasm on the subject, his teaching style and attitude can be overwhelming and a definite cause of stress.

If you message him looking for help you will get a snarky response about using the resources in the grossmont library and felt as if he would do anything to dodge helping personally.

This professor was an okay even though we have to take notes on videos lectuers half of the questions that are given in the exam the questions are not based off from the video lecture which makes it a little bit tough for students to do well on the exams and also was unorganized which made it a lot harder for students to know which homework are due

I took GEOG-120 & 121 (online lecture course & in-person lab) got an A+ in both. If you are looking to get an easy A, this is not it. If you do the work and follow along you will learn a lot. I do NOT recommend taking the lecture course without taking his lab, I don't think I could've done it otherwise. Lots of work, discipline needed!

Cliffe is passionate about his subject, but his teaching is difficult to keep up with. I remember being overwhelmed with everything I had to print for an online course. The modules for this class are conjugated, and he has you take hand-written notes for, once again, an ONLINE course. He shoves about 3 to 8 20-40-minute lectures every week.

Challenging and definitely not an easy A, but I honestly enjoyed it so much. He's very enthusiastic and engaging, although a bit detached from students. Lectures are pretty high-quality and high-density, so all very necessary to pass the exams. Didn't love that he required/graded hand-written notes, but they were very helpful in studying for exams.

This class is so stressful. Cliff is way too overwhelming and assigns a HUGE amount of videos each week. I study so much for this class and for a D, even though I am getting A and B grades in my other classes. He is all over the place. And, I don't think he cares much about students.

Tim is a great professor, he assigns a lot of handouts, these handouts are not too hard to complete. You just need to watch the videos to fill out the handouts. There aren't many assignments for this class, but you have to watch videos and take good notes. He does take his videos seriously but he also makes his videos fun by adding effects.

For anyone reading: Disregard the negative reviews about Prof. Cliffe. This man is flexible, patient and cares about his students success. You can tell he has alot of passion about what he teaches. I took his online course and his in-person lab course. I was unable to be in class for most of the semester for the lab and he still worked with me.

This professor seems passionate about his work, but honestly, he made everything overcomplicated for me. For example, one of the exams had 99 questions and I had to complete it in a short period of time, along with the fact that he only opened the test for a very specific time for just an hour, but I had work. Harder than needed. Time consuming. The amt of material is overwhelming between 3 major tests. Very passionate and knows his lectures but they are VERY dense. The professor was always available to answer questions if asked, gave generous feedback on assignments and exams, and was enthusiastic during the lectures, making them way less boring for people who aren't usually interested in the physical sciences. Very flexible if you express that you're struggling with a topic or time. Communication is key.

The class is comprised mostly of information-dense video lectures, which can be a lot at times, but they are the basis of the three exams taken throughout the semester, which make up the majority of your grade. Professor Cliffe communicates well and provides lots of supplemental resources for the course that will help you succeed.

I took this professor's Planet Earth class asynchronously as a high school student, and it was a perfect fit. I learned a lot about geology and our planet, the tests were fairly easy, and the workload wasn't too large, so it was a good fit considering I'm a full time high school student with many extracurriculars.

Requires lots of printing, hand-writing, and note-taking. The lectures are distracting and hard to follow. Talks incredibly quick, and jumps from topic to topic. The music, clips, and edits make it hard to focus. While the quizzes aren't hard, the time given to take them is insane. 40 questions in 20 minutes is a very difficult ratio. He's graceful

He can be nice and provides guidance videos, but he talks horrible about America, especially people from the south and republican. To him Americans are the stupidest and comparable to nazis. His class is basically all lecture for 3 hours with no breaks. While the tests are open note they take 3 hours to complete with an insane amount of questions.

If you need to take this class be sure that its the only one you take in the semester. He doesn't give you enough time for the tests. You will waste plenty of time taking lecture notes for the many videos he wants you to watch in one week and he wants you to print out the homework assignments. If you don't have access to a printer. GOOD LUCK!!!

I do not recommend. Every week I had to do 15+ pages of homework, and the lecture was excruciatingly 3 hours long. The only thing I looked forward to in this class was going home and breeding my villagers in Minecraft. Other than that, the professor is a cool guy with a lot of passion. But, very difficult class and luckily the exams are open notes.

This professor will make you do everything by hand. I had to write hand written notes and scan them in to turn them in. I also had to write all the assignment by hand and you have to print and color and label the maps. Coloring the Map assignments were very confusing and I did not have an access to a printer so it was annoying to always go print.

This is one of the most passionate teachers I've ever had. I am majoring in geology, so I have a bias when it comes to how interesting the class was, but I found his energy and the topics intriguing. Many video lectures and few readings you have to do. Video lectures are organized for the most part. LOTS of notes for you notetaker lovers out there.

Take this class if you need a lab. There is not text spent $25 on a printed lab manual and materials were cheap. Lectures are long, but he goes through the answers in class/zoom posted on canvas and goes over all the answers. So, I didn't understand the complains on the 15 pgs. homework. Tests are open notes. Amazing class for a lab, highly recommend. Lectures are long but all the labs are long. He also posts recorded lectures on canvas and goes over almost all of the lab answers there. Lab manual is $25; maps and other materials were cheap. Graded on weekly lab modules and 2 exams. He also worked with me when I couldn't make it to in person class.

Don't take this course if you're used to bare minimum participation. Professor Cliffe was amazing especially for an online class. You can tell he puts a lot of effort into his curriculum. However this course was dreadful because of the heavy notes, but I will say this is the most I've learned from an online class. It was worth the challenge FS.

This professor likes to hear himself talk. He preaches you will get an A, but if science is not your subject, your ruination is at hand. There are two exams in the class, each worth about 25% of your grade, totaling to 50%, and the labs are worth the other 50%. Take this class with caution; pray. Every minute in this class felt like a fever dream.

Professor Tim is very passionate about Geography, which results in jargon-heavy lectures. Tim provides many extra credit opportunities (do them!) He has provided extra help during exams when I was really struggling, which helped me achieve my A. The course consists of 13 packets worth (50%) and 2 exams (50%). Challenging but doable class.
