best math teacher ive had.. he is crazy though he gives out alot of extra credit, he makes u go to a hockey game to watch him play for extra credit.. teaches clearly and cares about his students definetly take him... subject is hard though
Didn't like him...he was very amusing and funny though. He tells stories well, but I just couldn't get a good grade in the class. He loves to put in his 2-sense about everything and I felt he put down those who were doing poorly in the class. He's great if you do good I guess, but if you do bad, you want to hide in a corner the whole time.
go to every single class session.. do all the projects and homework cuz the tests will kill you.. and do the little extra credit things.. hes funny.. puts in his 2 cents but he'll be a jerk to you personally
Hmm.. Not an approachable teacher makes you feel dumb. Teaches somewhat well, but i could just learn everything in the tutorial center and do just as well. He's not the best. But hes funny. Hard to do well. Good Teacher he knows his stuff, but its hard to ask him stuff outside of class.
I passed this class with a 70.4%.. passed it by 3 points.. alot of people did well.. but about 8 failed my class.. the tests are gona be hard and they are most of your grade.. so do every signle homework assignment and project and focus in class
good teacher overall..tells really funny stories..i barely passed all his tests and the quizzes & homeworks are the only things i did well on. he tells you whats exactly on the test and quizzes so take advantage of it..offers extra credit.. do the hw & e.c, study the material, ask lots of q's if needed and youll be fine =)
Best teacher ever...
He talks way too fast, and its incomprehensible because he's too busy telling jokes. It's cool to have a fun teacher in the morning, but he assumes you already know everything about stats and its extremely unnapproachable when you want help. You will need a lot of outside help if you want to pass.
So not true about the comment under mine..he is a math teacher and i guess non-math people should not take math and should not give their opinion..i believe that the class is easy given that it is taught in 4 weeks..3 tests cumulative final but he makes it easy and summarize it cleary so you can just study from the notes...very funny & sarcastic 2!
Really superior teacher. Constantly draws comparisons between "Math People" and "Non-Math People". Statistics in the wintersession is a huge load of work. Cooley truly is as he says "all about the student". Whatever you do, don't ask a dumb question or he will really lay into you. Plays ice hockey. "Real goddamn guy" kinda guy.
I overall enjoyed his class. He is funny and really clear about what he expects us to know for the exams. Yes, he is sarcastic and often draw a line between "math" and "non-math" people, but he still teaches well.
math is one of my favorite subjects but after i took his class i started hating math. he doesn't know what he's talking about and ALWAYS makes mistakes. he barely goes over anything. he just shows you a couple problems. he doesn't even respond to emails. he is no help whatsoever. and he's not good at math. he IS funny though.
Do not take this guy for stats. He is very smart and has masters degree in probablilty, but he definately does a poor job teaching it. big EGO, he might be good in other classes. He is pretty funny. I put in a lot of time studying, but it didnt matter he was more confused than most of the student about statitics i suggest taking denton instead.
dope teacher. funny easy and cool
Great teacher. I love how he shares his secrets on memorizing certain parts that seem dry and confusing in the book. He has his way of doing things, and by sharing it with the class, you'll always have the option of doing it the book's way (which is dry and mechanical) or teacher's way, which is easy to remember, and makes a lot more sense.
great guy, great teacher take him
Suoer hard. He doesnt make things clear at all and he teaches like you already know math inside and out. He makes you feel totally dumb when you ask questions therefore when you dont get something you dont even say it in fear of what he will say to you. DONT TAKE HIM!!
there are toooooooooooooooooooooooooo many homework!!!
Best teacher at OCC. Take him!
winter intercession sucked. way too hard. don't know about the regular semesters but i suggest you avoid him.. he was just soo boring too!
well, he is an ok teacher goes off the tangent all the time. he is scary and he teaches llike we are all mathematic experts, he makes you feel stupid if you have no idea want he is talking about and points it out if you ask a question so the only way to enjoy this class is to take it with a different teacher then go to his class
I dropped this class halfway throught the semester. I couldn't stand him. He is very arrogant. On the first week of class, he would announce that "more than half would drop like flies." very encouraging. He wouldn't go over hw questions in class. Exams were hard. Unless your great at math take him.
Took him for Winter Inter. 2008. I knew going into a win. int. course it was going to be challenging but it didn't help that he was completely useless and couldn't even explain anything to us in the class! Got answers wrong all the time, got annoyed easily, and had a very poor outlook on any of us receiving a passing grade. You're on your own!
do not take him save yourself
I liked this teacher, I'd definitely recommend him for anyone that actually wants to learn. His tests are challenging as is the class, but he makes it fun. Overall- fun class, nice teacher- just show up and pay attention.
Winter Intercession Stats 160--- Great teacher, Difficult class... simply because its 16 weeks crammed into 4. He is very clear, all you need to do is KEEP UP with him...thats the hard part. Bc its only 4 weeks u will recieve ALOT of info in 1 day so be prepared. I would reccomend taking a regular 16 week class.
If you like killing trees by doing endless amount of homework printing out so many pages of project work... by all means take this teacher... he's pretty funny but he sort of only gets people's attention through stereotypical jokes and seems very apathetic... but a decent class?
im taking him for wint. int.if you pay attention in class and print out all of the notes and study them you'll be fine. if you suck at math do not expect to get an A or B in Win. int.
He cares about teaching! This guy is so funny! Its a hard class, but he prepares his students well.
He was a really good professor. I took him for intercession. The class wasn't easy and it went really fast but he made it interesting and taught it really well. I recommend him if you're not a lazy student.
Awesome teacher, not only because he's funny but because he makes math a lot more interesting. He keeps you wide awake with his jokes and interesting stories. Overall his class was hard only because i took it during winter intersession. He's very clear and straight forward. Print out his notes and do your hw you should be fine.
dont take this class!!
The prof. is easy when you take him for the 16 week semester. His tests are not that difficult as long as you study and do the hw. He does count hw, so doing the hw is worth it. He gives out daily quizzes for every class sessions that you attend
disregard the ratings from the post below, commments are still correct
if your a student who barely got past math30, this class will be difficult cause Cooley doesn't sugarcoat his lectures and can come off as a cocky dude, but he know's he stuff. It's imperative to come to class everyday and do modules, projects,hw early.Overall,i thought he opposite of a monotone teacher and get help right away if you have trouble.
the class is chill but don't take Cooley as your professor he sucks. He goes off on random stuff, he is quick and thinks that everyone should know the material right away. Horrible teaching skills. Find another professor!!
I think Cooley is awesome, as long as you show up, pay attention and do your work things go smoothly. Ask questions and don't take what he says to heart, he doesn't sugar-coat anything. And DON'T take him if you don't want to eventually teach.
this prof's lectures were easy to understand. He's funnie don't take what he says too seriously;he speaks his mind and never sugar-codes things.if you want an A, attendeing class is mandatory.if you're one 2 skip one day of class, you will fall behind;i would only recommend this class 2 those who will show up 2 class EVERDAY!that's how i got an A.
I don't know why his ratings are so low. Cooley is amazing. I am a math hater and yet his class was my favorite. He's absolutely hilarious and he tells it like it is. Just make sure you really understand the concepts. Oh and only take his class if it's a 16 week course!
Dude is awesome. He explains his work soooo well. He actually spends class teaching instead of giving busy work. He teaches the right way and explains things VERY well. He is really funny and down to earth. He'll tell stories, and BS with ya but will also know when to get down to buisness. He isnt hard at all if you want to pass
He does not know how to teach! Ya he's chill and really laid back, but he is way too laid back for a teacher...im sorry but in order for me to learn something i like to see it a couple of times, not only see it done once and then hear about his personal life for a half an hour! Great class, but i recommend getting a tutor if you take him.
Um wow. The attendence is mandatory or you will fail the course. His tests are extremely hard and almost ridiculous. You can study his notes which he claims he spends all his time on,but thats just the intro or basics of the section, your gonna hav to use ur text book and teach urself. He doesnt go over his tests so you wont kno what ur doing wrong
this guy is really hard for some reason he hates to give out As and Bs even you work so hard. But there was like 2 people getting As out of 140 students, do the math guy.
I'd avoid him if you could. Honestly not a good professor in my mind. Shows up late to almost every class. Doesn't do exam reviews. Rushes through the material. Said he'd give formulas on one exam (the hardest exam) and did not. Majority of grades in class were F's. There were 2 A's. Don't take him if you're rusty on trig or haven't taken it.
he's a super chill teacher, very laid back&relaxed. but half the things he teaches you'll probably never use. he teaches with his own worksheets but all the hw is out of the book. he's a really tough grader and you think the class is easy until you see your grade at the end. he's...not the best teacher. super cool guy; but not the best teacher.
The Professor is chill and laid back. But due to no homework and probably lack of responsibility from alot of the student in his class including I. The class seems hards but is pretty easy if you do the Homework and study for the test. The guy who was sitting next to me pass the class with an A and he put the effort into it. Not a bad teacher.
He is a total jerk! Out of more than 140 students half of them dropped and only 2 people got an "A". 10 people got a "B" and the rest of the class that were brave enough to stay basically failed. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER!
Cooley is probably one of the BEST math teachers on campus! yes his class is not easy but he actually teaches! Not to mention he is soo funny and makes class so entertaining! if you do the homework and show up you have no problem. the people who are saying hes a bad teacher obviously are lazy. TAKE HIM you wont regret it!!!!
HE IS HORRIBLE.His class is short, and he comes in late all the time,HALF THE TIME HE SPENDS IT ON THINGS THAT DON'T EVEN DEAL WITH STATs, AND THE OTHER HALF, HE IS RACING HIS LECTURE. He thinks we understand things, when most of us don't, and doesn't even give us the opportunity to ask questions, and when we do, he makes us look stupid.
If you want to take this class, make sure its the ONLY hard class you have. You have to spend a lot of time understanding this course. The person under this comment said it right, he races through the lectures. He doesn't let us use notes and most of the time didn't give us any equation sheet for the exams(which other profsrs do).
He gives multiple choice test, and he makes it seem like is easy..he makes you memorize the equations, and gives all the possible wrong answers you can get on the mult answers. he is hard. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Professor Cooley is a very outgoing, funny teacher. He assigns an appropriate amount of homework and his notes are very helpful for the test so you should print them out. If you pay attention in class and do your homework then the tests will be super easy.It is also helpful if you find a study buddy.
Attend every class, and do the homework. Most of the class didn't and grades suffered and most people dropped. Entertaining and nice during lectures, but don't expect the same when you ask for help after class because he'll be rude. Tests aren't simple even though they're multiple choice but offers extra credit sometimes. The class is easy to pass.
Umm... actually Mr.Cooley was awesome! He's super funny, made me laugh every time. NEVER boring. But, his class is pretty tough. You MUST study study study to get a B! which is understandable, its math.
This guy was totally disorganized. He came in late all the time and canceled classes for dumb reasons. He hardly talked about math and like showing off about how smart he was more than actually teaching. He was easy since I already knew what I was doing; but if I didn't I'm pretty sure I would've failed because he like to complicate EVERYTHING.
he was a great teacher, super helpful. in every algebra class i took prior i failed. he gives great techniques to solving problems and is funny and his class is easy. homework sucks but what homework doesnt. his tests are easy as long as u do the homework you will get atleast a b on the test. i suggest taking his class
Class starts easy but dose not set the pace after test 1. Warning this class moves at light speed. Super nice guy might not be his fault. It just seems like he may be more concerned with meeting chapter dead lines, than he is with making sure that the content is being understood by the class. By the time you start to understand what is going on, it
It's hard for me to knock this teacher because he was so nice, however he does have some bad qualities. He moves super fast and seems to get annoyed at questions. He also casts doom and gloom everywhere he goes. Perhaps the most dangerous thing is how he formats the questions on the final. Instead of A)4 it;s A) is greater than 0 and odd. -___-
He is a really cool guy and though he does move fast, I was able to understand the concepts and get one of the highest grades in his class. He doesn't baby you so his style of teaching wont work for everyone but it was clear and made sense.
I hate him for two reasons: 1.) He had the nerves to sell tickets right in front of the class 2.) He's NOT prepared. One time, we're working on a problem in the lecture handout, and he could not solve it. It's a class that he fought to get (honors statistics), and he could not solve his own lecture examples. What a horrible teacher!
Mr. Cooley is not a good teacher. he doesnt teach at all, moves so fast you cant even copy down stuff and messes up his own problems all the time and cant figure them back out. makes fun of math classes lower then 140 and makes students who dont understand feel uncomfortable. he also exceeds his time limit almost every class. hes really just bad
Mr.Cooley is such a great techer. sure he can be kinda rude sometimes but its funny. He doesnt just hand out grades, you have to earn them. he makes a lot of the harder stuff easier because he's always showing us tips and tricks and shortcuts to the harder stuff. homework can be a killer but by the end youre more than ready for whats coming up next
There are not enough negative words to describe this teacher. If you have any sense of hope in yourself before this class, you wont later! This guy is the BIGGEST TOOL. He's all about how much better he is than everyone else and makes you feel stupid for asking questions! He's RUDE, CRASS DISCOURAGING, UNHELPFUL! Don't set yourself up for failure!
Great teacher. He knows Math really well and is very thorough. If you have a bad grade it's because you should be in a lower math class or you don't take your homework seriously. He is only rude when you ask dumb things or act like a ditsy girl. Just articulate your questions, show up to class, do the review before tests and you're golden.
WORST TEACHER! He missed the entire 1st week of school bc it was his bday. His notes are full of errors. MOST of the time he doesn't know how to solve the problems. He thinks everyone is stupid. He'll make fun of you. No one in class wanted to ask questions. He focuses more on selling his baseball tickets than teaching his class. I'd give him a F++
he is a great, smart and funnny teacher...But u need to work hard in order to get an A....take him and good luck!
Great math teacher. He is very smart and teaches well. His class moves fast though. If you want an easy grade look elsewhere. However if you wanna learn the subject this guy is legit.
He is a really good teacher and really explains everything well. He gives handouts (notes) for each section with example problems that you do as a class. For the first three tests I did no homework and got high as on all of them. The last two tests are difficult but do the homework and you are fine.
If you can avoid taking a class from him I strongly advise you to do so. His class moves way too fast, he is not very helpful, he is rude and condescending to those that don't understand and sometimes he can't even solve his own problems. Overall I am very disappointed with this teacher.
Really good teacher and explains everything. In the end he gave us all the equations that we would need to pass the tests which if you at least looked over the classwork you could easily get B's on. Plus you get A LOT of laughs out of him.
He's a talker. If he didn't talk so much about everything else, stats could be covered in about 14% of the lecture time. He explains very well. Don't ask stupid questions. He comes off as a know-it-all. If you do the homework and pay attention in class, the tests should be relatively easy and earning an A will be no problem.
he is funny and not boring at all but he is not the best math teacher , I always catch his mistakes in class and in the practice exams sheets, but he doesn't care, no one else would say a word or argue with him, he doesn't even know a lot of answers!
he's really a good math teacher. he's intelligent and has a great memory. take him if you can; you will learn a lot of helpful stuff about stat. 5 exams. They're not difficult. if u come to every classes and do homework, you can get A easily.
Great teacher. Fun classroom environment. Fair in testing and truly cares about students and their success. Take good notes, do the homework, and GO TO CLASS and you should be fine. Not too much homework assigned for this class, but useful to study for the exams. Text not used in class, but necessary for homework assignments.
Wow he is ANNOYING! It's so hard to concentrate on math when he's trying to perform a comedy act the whole time.
He's constantly making mistakes on the board that need to be corrected by the class. He poorly explains things and sometimes magically goes through an "algebra box" straight to the answer without working out the problem. Avoid him, especially for intersession class. He doesn't review the material before class, and plays it by ear.
He knows his stuff when it comes to stats. You won't be able to fall asleep because he actually keeps it interesting. He DOES come off condescending and he loves to tell you how good he is at teaching but we're not here to judge his character. He does teach well ,and if you study and go to class you should have NO problem getting an A.
I don't understand why he has bad reviews on here. His class is not boring at all . He, I think, has a great sense of humor and he teaches evrything very clearly. His tests are not hard at all. Did well on all of his tests. I would definitely recommend him.
He had crystal clear notes/outlines with sample test questions. Teaching felt rushed so I watched some youtube videos on the subject. Did all the hw and all the practice tests and walked away with an A. This is in the 22 day winter see too. He said 1/3rd of the class had As. Intro to Stats ain't gonna get much easier than this. Funny guy too.
Cooley is a honest teach. He isn't going to hand you your grade, he's going to make you work for it. He often goes off on tangents, just tune those out. Study and do the homework, if something doesn't make sense go on Khan's youtube videos. He is clear, just follow his directions and you'll do great. GO BRONCOS!
Solid stats teacher, you cant complain about cooley. he tries to make the class as easy as possible, just follow the wrksht in class and do your hw 100%, study the material a little and u could get an A.
After taking his class, I am super confident in math. He's a great instructor, always trying to make you laugh. He explains everything perfectly. Tests aren't difficult if you understand the material and SHOW UP TO ALL CLASSES, YOU'LL BE LOST IF NOT. HW really boosts your grade. I enjoyed this class and I would definitely recommend you take him.
I feel obligated to set the record straight about Professor Cooley. I have had him for two semesters and was going to again but switched majors. I have hated math my whole life until him. Never have I met someone who can explain everything in such a way, keep my interest, and crack me up the whole time. He is LEGIT. Come to class. Learn. Pass.
good teacher. go to class and you will pass.
He is the type of prof that some people will think is really funny but the rest of the students are annoyed the whole class. I dread going to class because half of the time spent in class seems like a waste of time (stupid jokes and stories that don't relate to math) he is a good teacher when he is teaching though.
Mr. Cooley is actually a great professor. You just have to really pay attention in his class.. If you don't, you will miss a lot of hints and advice he says about the test. Great guy, I just zoned out a lot
Mr. Cooley is a great professor. Try not to be absent in his class because he goes into details for some of test questions. Do all the home works correctly because it will prepare you for the test. Take his class
BEST MATH PROFESSOR EVER. He is clear, concise, & owns his craft. He initially comes off as a bit harsh, but it grows on you. During his lectures you see how passionate he is, & he always tries to make sure that no student leaves wout understanding the topic. Entering this course I was aiming for a C but with Cooley's instruction, I earned an A.
Cooley is crystal clear. Strongly recommend: Never miss class, Have a TI89 (easy to learn stats functions), Study handouts thoroughly and take excellent notes for tests. Book and HW are pointless. I was in the intersession and got a 97% easiest math class. He is a funny and phenomenal instructor but unapproachable and can be a little arrogant. GL!!
Now, Math 160 has became 4 units. It does not mean that this class is harder. In fact, it is easier since you can use a TI calculator to avoid calculating nasty formulas. Professor Cooley is very clear in his lecture and gives hints of what would be on his tests, so attending class is important. If you pay attention, earning an A is a breeze.
Took his Intro to Stats in the intersession and do not regret it. Did not want to miss a single lecture, because he would basically teach everything there. His handoutsnotes were great and very helpful but useless if you did not attend class. He's cynical and really straightforward but a great math teacher. Charismatic but kinda intimidating.
Definitely the coolest teacher I have ever met in OCC. Easy A if you show up every time and don't always think about your lunch in class. Everything he tells you to do is worth to do so, like buying the textbook and TI84, cause he thinks a lot for students, although he is little bit mean sometimes.
He is not clear when teaching. Hard to learn when he's joking around. Would not take him again.
Come to class and you'll pass. His handouts help alot and he is funny as hell. If you are taking stats take him.
First semester in OCC, I took his class and it was awesome. He gave clear on each lecture, guide each quiz and exam. I enjoyed this class.
i took him in the summer which i don't actually regret (3 hours m-th) if you dont show up to class you will have a hard time on catching up. he has homework assignments that aren't do but i would HIGHLY recommend you do it because it helped me a lot. its fast pace in the summer; test every week.
I love his lectures! He's a funny guy yet is very clear when it comes to the material. The subject itself is pretty basic, so just pay attention to the lecture, do some hw prob's, then there'll be no reason why you shouldn't get an A. Try not to miss class as he does some problems different way from the book and his ways are much easier
I enjoy this class very much.. Mr Cooley's teaching was very interesting.. if you attend every class you will pass for sure..
I took this as a summer course, and it was a really good way to get this class out of the way. I thought I would be really bad at stats but cooley made it really easy to understand. just pay attention in class. I literally used the book like twice and I still got an A, so save some money and don't buy it
He's funny and gives lectures at a steady pace so one could understand. Expect to come to class and print out the handouts to pass. If you study well then you'll pass. He gives a little bit of extra credit at the end of the course but not a lot.
Great professor and lectures are funny.
Professor Coo is a great educator. The thing about him is that he wont water down or sugar coat anything. Be teaches you the material like how its supposed to be so you will need to pay attention. Great for feedback, he's funny and most of all is there to help you understand and pass. Trust when I say you'll learn from him
Professor Cooley is quite clear-cut on what is expected in class. There are no tricks, and what you put in is what you get out of this class. Bring your notes to class everyday, since literally all of the test material is basically rearranged exercises. HW is optional and you won't survive this class without basic comprehension of English.
I've seen his course work and material compared to other professors at OCC and wouldn't take anyone else for Stats. Everything is very well explained. The only downside? You have to practice problems at home and go to almost every lecture to pass. Besides that he basically gives you the test questions throughout the semester. Study, easy A/B.
I have never been more offended in my life than by professor Cooley. Honestly the guy belittles the class, makes rude comments and mocks people who don't understand. Spends more time talking about himself and his miserable life than actually teaching. Quizzes are easy, tests are hard. Is not helpful at all & is 30 mins late to office hours.
He seems cool at first, but what you later find out is that he is so sarcastic all the time. He makes fun of you if you don't really understand the material. His exams are all MC and are only 20 Qs. So, if you miss 2 questions, you've lost your A on that exam. You have to go to class or you won't understand a thing. Do not recommend taking him.
I took this class in the intersession and it is definitely a class built for that kind of speed. If you skip a day, you will have a hard time catching up. Show up to class, take notes and you will do great. I did not do ANY work at home. The practice problems we do in class is exactly what you see on the exam. No tricks! Would take again
best pro ever, very clear and straight forward on the test. show up everyday you will get an A.
Timothy Cooley, spends a lot of class time to talk about himself, instead of teaching, makes rude comments, mocks student who do not understand the topic, and he is very belittles. There are total 6 exams and 8 quizzes, he is unwilling to help student, and toward the semester he asks student to collect coins for him, if you want extra credit.
Tim is one of the best professors I have ever had. He knows exactly what he's talking about and is willing to help you. He tells you exactly what is going to be on the exam so there is no surprises. Plan to go to class to pass. I took him during intercession and I truly walked away learning something from it. Take him and you will not be sorry.
Took him for intersession and it was a lot of work. But he is a good professor and knows his stuff. Kind of goes off topic sometimes but his stories are hilarious. Have a sense of humor and you will want to come to class. Textbook mandatory. DONT get offended by what he says. This is college not elementary school.
Ok, here's the deal. This class is really easy if you show up and pay attention. But the prof can be really rude, sexist, insensitive, and his sarcasm is often overbearing. He tries overly hard to be funny, but this sometimes turns into rigid and condescending life lectures. You can bear extreme sarcasm in trade for an easy A and math credit.
I feel like his class can be easy for those who like MATH. He speaks super fast in class, and he expected students to know everything. His exams generally are not hard, but it can be really tricky!! I won't recommend you to take him if you do not like MATH. Also, if you are international student, I will recommend you to take other profs.
I really enjoyed his class. Straight forward. Do the homework and the projects and do decent on the test and you'll be fine. Hilarious and wants his students to succeed.
Lots of Homework!!! and it's not even helpful in the test. Attendance is Mandatory because if you miss his class you won't learn a single thing. And he won't curve your grade. FYI he talks too much in the class that does not relate to the lecture. And his jokes are not even funny......
He's very funny and straightforward. Seriously, if you pay attention to his lectures, you'll be just fine. Doing your homework will also help a lot to review for the exams. He will tell you what exactly on the quizzes and tests, too. Pay attention to that part if you want an A. Great teacher!
I'm not a math person at all and I LOVED this class. Didn't miss a single lecture. He tells you EXACTLY what is on the quizzes and test. Spend the money or find a way to get a graphing calculator. It will make the tests SO much easier. He is so funny and makes the class fly by.
I'm contemplating whether to drop this class or not... I have until next sunday to drop w/ a W. His tests are usually straightforward, but most of the time, he goes so off topic, and is sometimes rude to people that have questions for him. wish he would focus more on teaching the material instead of trying to be funny. he talks super fast too
All of his lectures are very clear and he gives you many resources to help you understand the curriculum. If youre going to pass this class youll need to get a graphing calculator and learn how to use it
Took him during intersession and didn't seem I was going to pass so I dropped the class. Took him again during the fall and already knew what I was getting into. He tells you what the test is going to be and some of the exact questions just worded differently. If you have a TI-84 then you're set. Lets you use calculator on everything.
Professor Cooley is a pretty good teacher. He's HUGE on attendance though. The quizzes are super easy but the tests are hard. Your grade is pretty much your test grades so you have to do well on them to get a good grade in the class. Unfortunately homework won't really save you like most other classes cause he only collects about 5 assignments.
Professor Cooley was overall a good professor. A lot of people don't like him because he is sarcastic and very blunt. As long as you pay attention in class and do the homework, you'll get an A. He tells you exactly what's on the tests and quizzes. He does make you feel dumb if you ask a question, that was the only thing I didn't like about him.
T Cooley is one of the greatest instructors at OCC. Granted, if you are a snowflake that needs play dough and safe spaces, he's probably not for you. However, if you show up for class, pay attention and put in the effort - not only will you be highly entertained in his class, you will SUCCEED. He tells it like it is and knows how to teach. Awesome.
Cooley is an Absolutely horrible teacher. He does not know how to manage his time properly and believes his method is the end-all-be-all of mathematics. If you didn't know any better you might think you're taking a lesson from Pythagoras himself but in reality this teacher is spacey, loud, egotistical, and worst of all mean. Avoid at all costs.
It was hard to sit through class listening to this professor spew on about irrelevant, obnoxious personal anecdotes, BUT his teaching is solid. Everything is straightforward, and he provides study guides for each exam. There's a lot of homework, but he randomly chooses only 1 out of the stack to grade for completion. I'd take again as last resort.
cooley has so many good points. i learned a lot of tips and tricks from him to use in other math courses! but i'm terrible at math and a lot of the time i couldn't follow in class because he goes very fast through all of his notes. also there's a lot of homework. i would only take him if you're pretty solid in math and can keep up with him!
If you're looking for someone who is patient, he's not your guy. If you need the extra help at office hours he's never there so it can be frustrating when you're trying to raise your grade but he's not available! If you're good at time management with loads of homework and you're able to "self teach" then you'll be just fine.
Professor Cooley has a very abrasive personality but is an exceptional professor. He really cares if you do well and he tries to make his lectures as easy and simple as possible. He even makes his own notes for you to print out. Very lecture heavy, do the homework and study, youll pass no problem. Best math professor ever and Im not a math person
Professor Cooley's notes and TI handouts are very useful. He always tells you exactly what will be on the quizzes and tests. Tests are multiple choice but you must be very careful because he will include common errors among the choices. He gives lots of homework but collects only one before tests. You will get out of his class what you put into it.
All I could say is that hes not the worst but hes not the best professor. He gets distracted but as long as you actually try then you should be fine. He does speed as he tries to explain something for the second time. Other than that just do the homework to help you out because the exams have similar/same problems. Good luck.
Great professor! Has a great way of teaching to students and makes things very clear especially when it comes to what will be on the tests and quizzes. He definitely is dedicated to helping you succeed as long as you apply yourself! He has some crude humor but it definitely makes lecture go by faster! I would recommend!
Great professor, knows what hes talking about and wants his students to succeed. If you show up and do the homework this class wont be too difficult. Im not the best at math so the fact that he has printable notes for every class was very and he doesnt try to trick you on tests/quizzes like other professors Would highly recommend him for stats
Cooley is very student oriented and understands what students want out of a professor. As long as you are in class and use the lecture outlines, TI handouts and study guides that he generously provides for you, you should pass the class no problem. He has a great sense of humor and keeps a detailed class website and syllabus to keep you informed.
Definitely a great professor, no doubt! His lectures are really interesting and he tries to get his class involved and interested by inputting problems that can relate to them. Very funny, knows a lot of things other than stats, speaks his mind. He does assign homework and once its test day he will only choose one of the assignments to turn in.
Took this class over intercession from M-F, 9 AM-1PM. Four hour long lectures and somehow he makes it go by so quickly. His lectures are interesting and he is very clear with the information to focus on for upcoming quizzes and exams. I definitely recommend taking Stats with him, he sets everything up for students to pass with flying colors. Easy A
When I took his class, he gave us the whole sheet of the questions that would be on the final. he has a site for all his information and print outs that you fill out in class, the printouts make understanding the info really easy because its just important stuff in bulletpoints!!
The guy spends 15 mins every class talking about how our past math teachers didn't teach correctly, then proceeds to do problems and makes mistakes all the time. Class averages have been F's for every exam so far.
He spends most of class time talking about himself and discussing how many of his students fail and dont understand and also how many of us will fail. Hes extremely un motivating and it is detrimental to be attempting to learn in an environment when you are told every day (many times) about how nobody passes. spends 30 mins out of 2hrs doing math.
Honestly, Cooley knows what he is doing. Although he may be skilled with math, his arrogance is his downfall. My grade was my own fault as I gave up during the last week (a mistake). Without my prior knowledge of basic stats I probably wouldve failed his class as he expects his students to always understand what is going on with the subject
totally think he is a good teacher for Math. If you want to learn and be prepared for Calculus definitely take him. But lots of homework. 4 exams 1 final
Good teacher!! There is one homework for each section and it is collected the day of the test. There are 4 tests and a final but he gives a study guide for each and they are basically the same thing. There are also a couple of simple quizzes and he tells you exactly what they will consist of. He gives 2 projects but they are pretty simple.
Cooley's class is the best math class I have ever taken. He is hilarious and makes a math lecture worth going to. He has 5 tests, 6 quizzes (60/50pts aka EC), 4 due assignments (textbook needed), 2 EASY projects (EC chances). A lot of people say his class is easy, but be warned it is easy IF you do the work. Definitely take this class if you can!!
He is a good teacher. His test is not too difficult if you study his review and homework. Not too difficult to get an A.
Like any math class I was dreading this one, except Stats is something you have never seen before. Like any good professor he is trying to help you grow up, realize life is not rainbows & sunshine. Do your work, listen, ask questions, go to the student center, hire a tutor, buy a TI 83/84, download the textbook online for free, & DO NOT MISS CLASS.
As hard as the material was, I liked Prof. Cooley. He was fair and he really cares. He reiterated many times that he just wanted us to leave his class knowing statistics and that we can apply it to our future. If you skip class, it's so hard to catch up. Reading the book to catch up doesn't work. The way he explains these concepts did it for me.
He was really clear about what was on the tests and a great teacher, I just struggle with math which is why it was difficult for me.
This was my FIFTH time taking stats. I had 4 other classes w/ 4 other teachers at different colleges. This was the first time that the material actually made any kind of sense to me. I still had to fight tooth and nail for my grade, but if it weren't for Cooley's class/grading structure and his ability to keep me engaged, I never would have passed.
Mr. Cooley is a nice teacher. U easily to fall asleep in class, his class is the right one for u. He really energetic, funny. U wont get bore during his class. A lot of homework but just pick one section to turn in. He really well prepared teacher. He has website so we can download the note and calculator method. Highly recommend to take his class
Professor Cooley is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. You need to do your hw as it really helps understanding the materials. He's amazing and chill, but don't skip class because this course's materials are related. He explains everything in an understandable way. Don't bomb the tests! Study the notes and the examples.
Cooley's class is very straight forward. As an "older" student who hasn't taken a math course in 10 yrs, I just showed up to class, paid attention, & did *most* of the HW. Don't miss class & get the calculator! He's hilarious but spends a lot of time lecturing to young students who don't try hard enough, reminded me of typical dad talks. Great guy!
He's a rare professor and is super dedicated to his students!!! You can easily pass this class and get a B or better if you do what he tells you to do and complete all the homework. Go to the Math Center for support, they know him and will help you get through his class! He is super passionate about teaching! I wish they were all like him!!!
He had very clear lectures and explained everything very thoroughly. If you do the homework and the study guides you'll get an A. His study guides are just like his tests. I highly recommend taking this class!! He was my favorite professor I've ever had and I genuinely looked forward to coming to this class.
Second time is the charm thanks to Cooley. Do the homework, show up, take notes, ask questions and you will pass. He wants to help you pass. Complain, don't do the assigned homework, don't show up to call and you are screwed. Simple. I HATED stats but I passed. After exam 4 it seemed he was speaking in a foreign tongue. He wouldn't let me give up.
Timothy Cooley was the best maths professor Ive ever had. He does his best to help you out fully and doesnt over complicate things! Really amazing and funny guy
This was my second time taking MATH100, but during intersession. If I am being honest, the first couple of weeks seemed dispiriting. The following weeks after that were the complete contrary. Cooley cares for his students, he wants them all to thrive. Although I got a C in the class, I aced two exams one being the final. Study and you'll pass.
A lot of people give Prof. Cooley a hard time. He cares that we get a good grade, but it is our grade to get! I had a B/C all semester, and worked super hard at the end and ended up getting an A on the last test and over 100% on the final. It is a grade you definitely have to work for, but that's what college is! And I actually understand math now
while I passed with an okay grade it was super hard to ask for help because he would get upset and make fun of students when they didn't understand the content. he would throw tantrums when things didnt go his way or again when we needed help. I am here to learn, he is here to teach, yet it was always my fault for not understanding.
I would say this teacher is strict/tough/ and it changed to online due to corona virus. it was super hard to ask for help because he would get upset and make fun when I didn't understand the content. also he is professor who doesn't allow make-up test or quiz. it was hard class because it changed to online.
Math 100 is overall an easy (and useful) course therefore Cooley finds all questions absurd. Hes a condescending guy. Hes more concerned about being a comedian than having basic human decency. I do appreciate the print out notes he made for us and he is clear on instructions, just wish he was respectful and approachable.
after this got changed to online due to covid-19 He is more about being a comedian than having basic human decency and teach I do appreciate the print out notes he made for us but It would be better if he was respectful and actually help students when they ask question. just wish he would be helpful math teacher rather than being acting as comedian
definitely the best math professor that you could ask for. I had him during the COVID-19 situation, so I had him on campus and online. His personality keeps your attention throughout the entire lecture, unlike just about every other math professor. He Tells you exactly what is on quizzes and tests. Doesn't really care if you show up to class or not
i don't know basic multiplication & i got an A. He's really good at explaining & available for help. U need book. He preps u for quiz and test. He's really weird &funny. He knows you are bad at math and he makes it easy to learn. He knows if ur taking liberalmath, ur not gonna be a scientist so he makes it simple. Responds to feedback. Projects ez.
I had Cooley for stats when COVID hit. He can be very blunt and sarcastic but is always very clear on the material. The quizzes are extremely easy and came with EC. Assignments are very time consuming but not impossible. Tests were difficult, but if you go to lecture and pay attention you're set. Overall, decent course and he cares about students.
*taken during COVID-19. GREAT prof.-really knows his math. A bit cynical/can have an ego. Personality can rub ppl. the wrong way. Really wants students to succeed+understand material. 7 quizzes; 4 exams; 2 projects. Has website w/ handouts on lessons. Exams NOT large % of grade. OK w/ accomodations/DSPS. OK w/ emails(can take awhile to hear back).
This teacher doesnt respect student, and maybe even all people for that matter. He constantly talks about how stupid people are. His lectures are long and boring. He should retire or work as something other than a teacher. He has ZERO people skills. You arent allowed to asked questions without being vilified.
Overall a cool professor. In my opinion, Homework is doable and fairly light. When it comes to math he expects you to pay high attention and understand everything he teaches the first time he says it. If you ask a question he's answered throughout the lecture he WILL criticize you! He provides what you need all you have to do is apply yourself.
Professor Cooley was the best math teacher that I have ever had! He is EXTREMELY well organized and clear on exactly what you need to do in order to pass his class and get a good grade. He is very on top of things and gives you lots of extra materials to help you study outside of class! Very down to earth guy and he is hilarious! He cares a lot!
I took professor Cooley during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and let me just say he handled the transition to online format amazing. If you hate math as much as I do, take his class. Super funny and makes math understandable and interesting. He wants his students to succeed in math and in life.
ableist, stated people with learning disabilities should not take his course on the first day, in front of everyone (yikes). very full of himself. thinks hes a comedian when at best hes amy scheumer. patronizes students who ask simple questions. will never stop talking about himself. quizzes were fairly easy, as well as projects.
Mr. Cooley is incredibly rude and very ignorant. He said on the first day of class, "If you don't have a printer, why are you in college?" which is incredibly classist to the students who are on financial aid who cant afford it. He belittles students for asking questions and told disabled students they wont succeed in his class.
This professor reminds me of Mr. Resetti from Animal Crossing. He will make fun of you for not knowing stuff that you should've learned. However, he is really helpful and wants you to succeed in life. He is old-school teacher, and many sensitive students don't like that he is tough sometimes. He gives fast feedback which is something I admire a lot
I really wanted to like this professor, but honestly, he cares more about bragging about himself than actually helping his students. He belittles people for asking questions, and he thinks that the program he has in place is perfect and that if you don't understand, you're the problem. It might be different in person take at your own risk.
The worst math class I have ever taken in my nearly two decades of life. The guy did not know what he was doing. Constantly skipping questions or parts of questions, using the incorrect formulas, and talked WAY too much about sports. Found any excuse to talk about it. Could probably find a way to include competitive toe wrestling into a lecture.
Awesome
great professor i ever have
I thought I was gonna enjoy this class. but I asked a simple question and got completely chewed up about it. Another classmate didn't have the ability to purchase a TI84 Plus and he belittled her as well. If you don't show up he tells you that you're going to fail/be dropped. Tries to be funny and fails, tests aren't bad if you study and do the hw
How he runs his class and his (unintentionally?) condescending demeanor balance out. He acts god-like, which can be annoying, and is usually belittling when answering questions. Though, his MC tests/quizzes, significant generosity with extra credit, and willingness to give us feedback on the two (easy) projects was nice.
Took this class during a winter session and I'm glad I did! It's not an easy A. You do have to put in the work. He gives plenty of extra credit incase you bomb the test and/or quizzes. Very generous with how he grades the HW. Easy going guy I'd say. if you have questions, don't be afraid to ask he will go over the answer with you again!
Took stats over the intercession and I was very pleased, I fell behind a bit and that is why I got a B instead of an A, but paying attention during lecture and doing the work provided, should result in a very successful class for you. content was not too difficult, and the environment was great for making sure you understand all the content.
this professor was very difficult he is very fast and expects you to just know everything. Absolutely would not recommend! intro to stats was fine until exam 1.
Prof Cooley is the best. He teaches well and he makes the subject easier to understand. He can be blunt but you can tell he really cares for his students. His tests are really easy if you study and give your best effort. Highly recommend him.
For a mathematics professor, he sure did talk a lot about sports! Personally, math is not my best subject and I never felt comfortable asking questions because he would answer students in a condescending and belittling way for not understanding his way of teaching. If you're anything like me, horrible at math, try another teacher.
Bad teachers can get good reviews for giving pts away, being "easy," etc. but don't teach or prepare well. One of the best at explaining math at OCC, puts lots of effort into teaching, and expects you to at least meet him halfway. Don't be intimidated by these reviews, unless you are a total slacker or don't care. Not hard, expects college lvl work
Mr. Cooley cares about the students success. He gives you the reason why you need to pay attention and warns about issues he sees that negatively impact students success in his class and life in general. If you are open to learning he is a great instructor. My advice to have success in his class is to follow directions and be teachable.
If you need to take a Stats 100 class for Gen Ed, I definitely recommend taking Cooley's class during intersession. I'm awful at stats, but it was a very straightforward class. There were never any surprises on the exams and he provided most of the formulas on the exams. He can come off condescending, but he truly cares about his students.
Very straightforward, no BS teacher. I loved him & did a lot better than I thought. If you actually do the homework & the quizzes, you'll be fine. He had 2 extra quizzes this semester, so if you forgot any quizzes you'd be fine; if not, it was extra credit. He really does care about his students and understands many of us are not math majors.
Really great guy. He makes the effort to actually teach the class. His lectures are the most important part of the course. He also provides plenty of online resources for you to look at in case you miss a day. Professor Cooley is a little intimidating at first, but he's just loud because he has to talk to an entire lecture hall.
Mr. Cooley truly cares about his students. If you do fail his class he's more than happy to have you take his class again to get the criteria correct. The lectures can be draining at times since you learn several sections each day. But as long as you do your homework, you'll understand and pass with no problem.
Awful class. Homework sections are worth only 2 points yet take an hour+ to finish, while a single exam question is worth 4 points. The lectures are hard to follow, I did better teaching myself the material outside of class. Cooley is very condescending and egotistical, he'll blame students for doing bad rather than reflect on his own teaching
Overall good teacher. He'll answer ur questions/try to help you succeed. He's generous in giving the opportunity to retake one of the 3 exams and allows you to turn in projects early so he can give feedback/help you get full points. But tbh I did better teaching myself and he's super condescending so prepare for that every time u ask a question.
Ignore the condescending attitude and just get your credit. Provides all the resources and opportunities to pass (USE THEM). Get the calculator but BEWARE OF THE STUDENT STORE PRICES. Print the notes twice and redo them on your own (actually helps). Don't let HW pileup. Study guides resemble actual exam. Exam 2 is where the majority struggle.
If you put in the work and effort, you will earn the grade you want. Try not to fall behind and procrastinate because it is overwhelming and stressful. There are 3 exams and a final exam but he allows you to retake one of the 3 exams before the final exam if you want to. Make sure to do the study guide as it is similar to the exam you take
Although he tends to sidetrack sometimes, but he keeps it real and to the point! Lectures are engaging due to the fact that he is always energetic and loud. Notes are the most important thing because they help a lot. The exam practices are like the exam so I recommend to do them before the exam. Also you really need the Ti-84 calculator to survive
Cooley's class is great if you are motivated to show up and do the work. The lectures consists of his dad jokes and his own handout note sheets-- it's very structured and easy to follow and each day is following along to one to three lessons of his handout note sheets. Everything is through the Ti-84 algorithms, you don't really need to know math.
Super cool and funny professor. I was pretty worried about taking statistics but I was totally able to follow his lectures and ended up doing way better than I expected! It's very fast-paced, would definitely recommend getting a proper calculator and going to every lecture.
I've always disliked math but this professor made Statistics very easy to understand. You just have to show up to class and you'll be fine.
Wants you to succeed! Took hybrid. 5 tests, a sets of hw problems due before each exam. Allowed 1 redo of any exam except #5 at the end of the semester. 4 projects, VERY easy, under an hr to complete. Short quizzes online once in a while. Gave a fair amount of EC opportunities at the end of the semester. Easy pass w/ some effort but not an easy A.
Cooley had good notes, but the majority of his class time was used to crack jokes and go on rants about sports. He also was extremely condescending when someone would ask a question. My advice would be to buy the calculator for sure and to go to the math center and get help from Jacob when you are struggling.
Mr Cooley genuinely wants his students to succeed and it shows . His homework assignments and his packets help tremendously ..it may seem like a lot but it's easy points. He gives you all of the material and info needed to succeed. As someone who did things last minuet. Literally. If I had put in the time it would have been an easy b.
I took Cooley's class fall of 2023 and actually came back to give him a review! His lectures are very important as they carry on from one class to the next class. All the assignments he gives might feel like a lot but it's all just to help with future tests. Some people might say he's harsh but he just wants his students to pass his class.
One seond hes telling you to get help if you need help with math another hes telling you, you shouldn't be in the class if you don't get it. he goes at you for not understanding. I think the class can be easy but he doesn't make it easy. he will come at you for needing extra help.
He is the funniest teacher I have had so far. I took statistics and it was a hard class but very doable if you come to lectures and do the hw. I really liked his class and those who didn't were just not determined to get a good grade.
He gets pleasure from degrading student's intelligence and can be passive-aggressive. DO NOT procrastinate on homework... it will take you longer than you think. Lectures are alright but he does mention politics at some points lol. Practice exams are similar to the actual thing but you will need to study.
Cooley isn't the friendliest guy, but his lectures are straight-forward and practice exams are like the exams. He isn't as scary as prior ratings make him out to be. You'll definitely need to put in a decent amount of work to understand some concepts. Projects are really easy and he makes some quizzes extra credit (take advantage of them).
Please take Cooley for stats! He's super funny and entertaining and makes stats understandable. There's easy quizzes and projects that boost your grade, and the tests are almost identical to the reviews he posts. If you attend every lecture, take notes, do the homework in a timely manner, and STUDY THE STUDY GUIDE, you'll do very well. Good luck!
rly straightforward about what you need to do to pass & provides everything you need! do the hw on time, go to as many lectures as you can (u can def skip a few tho imo), take advantage of free tutoring if needed, & u'll do fine! he can be cynical at times, but js dont take it to heart. the stuff isnt that intimidating, esp after a bit of practice
Truly a funny guy and the class is not hard like some people say.
I took his hybrid class, the lectures are online and there's 5 exams taken in-person. The class is straightforward and the work isn't difficult, you just have to put effort and study well if you want an A. Also, he can make funny jokes at times lol. Only con might be his cynical attitude, and do not procrastinate since the homework can take long!
Professor Cooley is the worst professor I've ever had. He makes students feel dumb for asking questions. He is narcissistic, arrogant and plain rude. He makes inappropriate jokes and makes himself feel good by putting students down. He tries to act young but he just needs to grow up and act his age. Get ready to teach yourself concepts. DO NOT TAKE
