He is the best Chem teacher I've ever had
a very good teacher . Loved him
He is a very good Prof. He knows what he says. Even though, he is new he is one of the best Prof of the SMC Chem.
Professor Dong is by far the best science professor I have ever had. He genuinely wants to teach the students. He's not just in it for the money. He puts hours of work in order to help his student learn and succeed. I highly recommend taking his course.
He does his best to ensure the success of his students in the class. He is almost always available via office hours or email so better utilize it well. Provides scanned lecture notes and does review sessions before test.
He is the best Chemistry professor you can have at SMC . it is not surprising that his classes gets full in the very first two days of opening . He doesn't give you extra credit but he is absolutely fair. Really friendly and there to help you. No matter what it takes. He Is There For You. Best Prof. EVER
Dr. Dong is one of the best professors at SMC. He doesn't show off his knowledge even though he is really good at his subject. I mean what would you think. He has a PHD. But he doesn't stay back and see you fail because he has better knowledge no. He is always willing to help. I recommend him to those who want to learn and have fun at the same time
He is clear and easy to understand. the class was great, the way he grades our exams are even better. he is really careful about all steps and gives partial credits if you get any of the answer right
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! His lectures are clear, easy to understand and entertaining. He's always available during office hours and encourages you to ask questions regarding the class. Gives a lot of partial credit on exams! Very helpful especially during lab days. He truly wants his students to succeed and pass his class. TAKE HIM! You won't regret it
He is really great and fair when it comes to tests. I totally recommend him
Dr. Dong is INCREDIBLE. Totally different from any other science teacher I've taken. He's understanding, charming and helpful. His lectures are informative, but he prints out guided notes that are easy to digest. Tests and weekly quizzes straight from lecture. But he posts lecture vids online, so you never have to miss anything.
Dong is INCREDIBLE. Best chem teacher I've ever had. He does everything he can to make sure you have the means to pass his class AND learn chemistry. You can tell he knows a lot, but wants to teach, not preach. His class is accessible and he posts all his lectures and review session videos online so you can re-watch them. TAKE HIM.
easy as long as you pay attention in the lectures and do all the homework your guaranteed to pass.
First of all, there is no such thing as an easy A Chem 10 teacher. Just like any other good chem professor, you must put the time and effort in order to excell in dong's class. His test are fair and the labs are easy. His grading scale is awesome. The weekly quizes are also easy. Very techy in terms of lecturing and notes. Drops lowest scores also.
you will have to study and read a lot, but it is possible to do great. Dong really does care. Make sure if you miss a lecture, that you watch it online.
Professor Dong is very helpful, kind, inspiring and fair. I wish he would teaches all chem level He prepares you, he give weekly quiz, study guide, He records his lecture which I absolutely love, and he has an awesome lecture notes. Make sure practice the material and review his lecture and just show up to his office hours and you guys will be fine.
Dr. Dong is an Ok teacher. Read the book, (I didn't know to do this until the end) do practice problems from book, do homework on time, and complete labs. Labs can be complicated. Quizzes can be tricky. Gives two finals on one day. He's ok but it's on you to study hard. He's not easy whatsoever and homework is frustrating. Just do your best.
This teacher can be of great importance to you if you study his lecture notes, read the book, and pay attention in class. His grading criteria is good, lots of homework that's online. Make sure you put your life into his class. You have to work hard for your grade in his class, but he is a pretty reasonable person.
Dr. Dong is passionate about his field. You don't use the textbook because he's made up an entire book of lecture notes for you that you can purchase at the book store for about $15. He's very resourceful and scans all his lecture notes online and uploads lecture videos for you to access and study with.
LOTS, LOTS, LOTS, LOTS, LOTS, LOTS homework, quizzes, tests, assignments. Easy questions in the lectures, tough questions on the tests.
No extra credit, very fair, great professor
hes really awesome. he explains concepts so well. very caring. his exams are fair and to the point. very similar to the practice exams. i really enjoyed Ochem with him. he is also very chill and understanding. an A is very doable
wish i had him for general chem! He's everything you look for in a chemistry professor. I've never had a teacher that was so easy to contact for help. His office hours are basically study group session (i went to a few but not all but if you have time GO). I LOVED HIS CLASS. That being said the last half of the class was a bit rushed so be prepared
I couldn't have asked for a better professor for ochem. He breaks down concepts so clearly. He is very accessible and organized. He records lectures and post them online. His exams were not bad at all, very similar to practice exams. Few extra credit here and there. An A is veryyy doable if you work hard enough
He is amazing! I retook this course with a new professor, Dr. Dong. I cannot describe how amazing his lectures and generosity are. The class is never tough, Ochem material itself is hard. It's just a matter of ochem stuff. However, with Dong, everything is so easy. Take him! Wont regret!
He is by far the best chemistry professor at smc.. Took him for Organic chem 21 and he was so clear, made the complicated subject matter easier to comprehend. Read, do homework and an A is yours. AWESOME!
Honestly Dr. Dong is the best. I took him for 21 and I WISH he taught 22 and 24 too! He made ochem fun, and as someone who hates chemistry, I never thought I could enjoy his class, but I loved it. Now I am in 22 and miss his clear teaching so much. Read his notes and study and you will do fine. He genuinely cares about you and wants you to succeed!
Best chem professor at SMC! records all lectures, makes sure students are understanding concepts fair in grading loves chemistry great personality. do all work and study and you will get a A or B take him
Dr. Dong is an outstanding professor. He makes his lectures interesting even at 7:45 am! He walks you through problems explaining each step. Extremely patient with questions. Tests are not difficult if you do your homework (it's quite a bit but it helps!) and review problems from lectures! Go to his office hours and you will succeed!
He is so amazing, I almost cried last class. Highly recommend.
14 quizzes, 3 midterms, 1 final, online hw, use of attendance app. You are forced to work hard every week lol. very clear on everything . Lecture notes, videos, previous exams are all available online. He does everything that will help you succeed. All you have to do is pick up a pen and do what he tells you to do.
Awesome professor. Chem 10 in summer was just the right amount of difficulty. You know what to expect for the quizzes and tests because the lecture notes are very informative. The labs and online homework are somewhat tedious, but fair. You learn a lot and I think he is the best professor for Chem 10 compared to the other professors.
I struggled through chem 10, 11 and 12 and was petrified of chemistry. Then came Dong. I never thought I could get an A, much less enjoy a chemistry course but with his style of teaching, caring disposition and ability to relay information, this class was, despite its difficulty, a pleasure. Thank you, Dr. Dong!
Slightly disorganized because this was his first semester teaching Chem 19. Always gives breaks during lecture; almost never during lab. All lectures are recorded. Drops lowest quiz. MAKE USE OF OFFICE HOURS
If you have no Chemistry background as I did, let me give you a bit of advice before you take this class and waste your time only to WD. Take Chem 9 first then take this class. The class is very fast pasted so during the lecture you will feel like you are just writing things down. You will have to re-watch lectures to understand the content.
A great professor who cares about the students. Ask questions and you'll get an answer. wonderful professor
I took this class befit and struggled to the point when I withdrew out of the course. This professor is way more hands on that most professors I've had which helps so much in class. He records all his lectures, has tutoring office hours in the computer lab and dose an optional extra hr study day (additional if you want to do it) before exams! ) )
If you're going to take Chem, you're going to have to take it with this professor! He's the best hands down, office hours in the learning center, records his lectures, detailed test reviews and study guides. Clear grading material and quiz/test boundaries. You can tell he really cares about his job and takes teaching serious... It's a tough class.
Take him for Chem 21 but not for Chem 19. His exam reviews and slide questions are easy but exam questions are hard. Lots of homework, quiz every week and does not replace your lowest exam. If you still decided to take him after reading this Good luck! You have been warned.
He gives you all the tools you need to succeed. Know how to do similar questions from his lecture notes + the homework problems and you'll do amazing. The "weekly memorization" pages is your bible! Don't procrastinate this class, if you don't pass it'll totally be because you didn't put the effort in. Wish he could teach all my future classes
Currently in Dong's Chem 21 class, and wow. I am one of the lucky ones who gets to take him for Organic 1 and 2. He was THE only teacher I cared about getting in the fall. His teaching is amazing. Super organized/knowledgable and he explains things with humor. If theres one professor to make sure you get, he's it. Best teacher I've had at SMC
He rewrote the whole textbook in his lecture notes, made it longer, and made it not cover all of the material that you are tested on. You will need to invest at least 6 hours a day to get an A. After covid, he made his lectures 3 hours longer and you were required to watch 2 hours videos before attending his class. I killed myself for the A.
Not the best teacher. He was my lab teacher and he makes so little work you have unclear and harder for no reason. I do not suggest him if u want to have any passion for chemistry.
He is the best professor of all in SMC. He cares his students and gives good feedback on your quiz and exams. However it is difficult course in chemistry so you need to work on lots of materials and homework (hw is not mandatory but it's great to practice for every exams) His own lecture notes are just amazing.
Prof Dong is an awesome professor. Ochem is already hard, but he makes it easy enough for students to understand the materials. His lecture notes are amazing and very well organized. Working on hw problems helps you do better as some of them come out on the exams. Don't hesitate to ask him questions because his explanation is just so good!
Very disorganized teaching style. Notes rewritten from textbook. Weekly quizzes with trick questions. 3 exams, quizzes and final are the only grades. Frequently unavailable for office hours and via email. Lab assignments posted last minute. Nice guy, but no compassion for students. Received an A in my first organic chemistry class.
Pest prof I've ever had at SMC, keeps the lectures interesting as for some reason I almost always felt engaged with the material. Maybe his teaching style isn't for everyone but I would say that the average student would really like his class. He always has such a positive attitude, it really helps.
Impatient and pretending to care about students. He had some bad trouble in the middle of the term, but that shouldn't be the reason to make our lives miserable. Constantly canceling lectures, and post recordings from eight years ago (so as the material used in class). Feeling rushed the entire semester but didn't learn anything out of it.
Disrespectful. Doesn't teach you anything about chemistry. You can tell from his method that he, himself, has memorized everything and tries to teach his students while he doesn't understand anything behind why it's happening. BIG NOOO. Avoid him at all costs. He'll ruin your fundamentals and make you hate OChem.
Wonderful professor. The best one I've had in years. Funny, cheerful, and very acknowledged. Would love to take his class again in the future.
Disregard the previous reviews, they were probably from online Covid times. Dr. Dong made me actually, legitimately enjoy Chemistry. Be prepared to devote a lot of time to this class, reread the notes and do the homework practice; you'll be set. PLENTY of trick questions. Only con is he takes a long time to grade labs, but he's a very caring proff.
He literally rewrote the whole textbook in his so-called "notes" and made it longer. Teaches you things that are NOT even known in the world of chemistry. He makes you memorize mechanisms and you can't learn anything b/c he covers so much that is not supposed to be covered. I don't why he teaches, YOU will NOT learn anything if you take him. AVOID
He genuinely cares about his students and I found his personalized notes helpful. There are 3 exams (lowest dropped), weekly quiz (lowest dropped). His exams aren't too difficult, as long as you did the homework and studied a bit and he gives partial credit. He grades the lab pretty late into the semester, but he's super lenient on grading.
O. Chem II in the summer is painful. The best way to put it is that it's like trying to drink water from a fire hose. However, if you're taking it, do it with Dong. By far my favorite professor I've ever had in college. Dr. Dong will do his best to make the information digestible, and if you can sit down and deal with the rigor, you will succeed.
Ignore bad reviews, this man is the most inspirational professor I have ever had the privilege of taking, let alone in my academic career. He has motivated me beyond belief and goes beyond the bare minimum in every aspect. I will continue working hard in life so one day I can show how much of an impact he has had.
Took Professor Dong for the entire ochem sequence and he is an amazing professor. He has lecture notes that you fill out which I find really helpful and its easy to follow along. There are three exams and one cumulative final (lowest exam dropped) and homework isn't graded but it will help to prepare for weekly quizzes and exams.
Dr. Dong is a wonderful, extremely approachable professor. Lots of office hours, tons of examples in lecture. Provides a notes packet so you can focus on what he says in lecture rather than desperately trying to write everything down. So grateful to have had him for ochem.
Dr. Dong is my fave prof. He's funny and upbeat, explains well, and provides a notes packet so you can follow his lectures rather than racing to copy everything. He has tons of office hours; take advantage of them, they are so helpful! Fair grader but expect to work hard. Do the hw problems even though they're not graded. Overall amazing professor!
The best ochem professor out there. Very organized, open to answering questions, wants you to succeed, and explains topics easily so you can understand. Cares about his students which is great!
He is literally so kind and understanding. The class is difficult, and you will have weekly quizzes, but he makes practice exams for each exam which help with studying so much. He is amazing do not hesitate to take this professor.
Chill dude
I feel so fortunate to have had him as my organic chemistry professor. He is truly the most inspirational teacher I have ever had. He is phenomenal. Some people were born to be teachers, and he is one of them. You MUST take him if possible, he will make this class as digestible as possible. Make sure you do the homework!!!!!
Dr. Dong is immensely passionate and knowledgable about all things general and organic chemistry. He's very friendly, holds office hours quite often, and uploads lecture recordings and quiz/exam answers to help you better grasp the content. Do the homework and go beyond it if you want to excel in the class- as Dr. Dong always says, "chem is try".
Goes out of his way to help students and is incredibly kind and patient. Sci 10 is truly what you make of it, so it isn't difficult to attain the grade you desire. However, I recommend immersing yourself in your project and taking advantage of all the resources and help Dr. Dong has to offer. This was a super fun + chill summer class!
I think about his class every now and then because of how I wished he was my professor in every class. He is well organized study guide videos calendar I miss chem19. If only I was locked in I wouldve gotten an A dont be lazy he is great
