Very hard instructor. Very intensive study and research class. PHD type work for introductory class. Very passionate but very liberal (politically).
Way too much reading and research for an intro. course. Need PHD to know what's going on. Half the class drops.
Challenging class, but worth it. I enjoyed his style and really felt like I was in a college class. If you do the reading and contribute in the discussions, you will be fine.

Let's personal opinion cloud judgement. Exceedingly harsh in grading scale, unless you are one of his favorites. Very liberal; if you lean towards the right, don't expect a good grade from him. Requires an insane amount of work for a 100 level class.
I never had an issue with my political views having an effect on my grade. I made it clear on a day to day basis that I disagreed with him, and got an A for the class. He is one teacher that requires you to work for your grade.
He was helpful. Makes you work for your grade. Has a thing where he wants you to participate, and yes, he keeps track by having you write on a sheet if you participated and how many times. He'll know if you're lying. I'd say this teacher is so-so. ^^;
His class is very hard but you learn ALOT. Great class for elementary ed majors or history majors. You have to do the work and you have to participate it counts big towards your grade! There is a lot of reading each night and you dicuss this next day in class. Only 3 tests (essay) little quizzes along the way as well. Great Class though.
Don't take his online history class unless you are will to live at the computer each week. Lecture class might be easier, but he does require quite a bit of knowledge for an entry level history class. Very difficult, plan to spend time reading and writing. For non history majors, find someone elses class to take, it was not worth the time.
Western Civ=HARDEST class ever with Tim!!! He talked to our class as if we were his scholars, and not students. Barely understood anything he said - and never clarified his thoughts for us. Very time consuming/challenging. I do NOT recommend him. Very hard to pass, and I normally pass each class with an A or B. Also is very pretentious.
i went to the 1st class and dropped it. my cousin took the class and said he was knowledgable in subject, but pretty much a jerk. that's the impression i got on day one. too arrogant for my taste. i opted to take the same class by amy godfrey and very happy. she's extremely knowledgable and down-to-earth.
RUN! Run! Does this guy think we are grad students? Another egocentric prof that is obviously using our research for his doc paper. Someone needs to tell this guy he is at a community college teaching an 100 level class. He is that bad professor you will talk about to your grandkids. Yeah, and I got an A and still couldn't stand the class.
Tim is a great teacher who demands your participation in his class. If you are not willing to talk in class, then you will not do well. You don't even need to say something profound, just do the reading and comment during class discussion. This teacher really challenges the students to use their heads! I highly recommend him.
Either he was a horrible teacher, or I actually worked very hard in his class... After putting forth full effort and "passing" his class, I was failed because of Draper's strict attendance policy even though he was aware that I had missed the four days due to complications from chronic disease. Draper claims its impossible to pass with 4 abscences.
This guy is an A hole. he's way too egocentric. requires a ton of work to do. i dropped his class half way through because i couldn't take it any longer. unless you like the extreme strictness, then i suggest you stay away. it's his way or the highway, no if's and's or but's.
Horrible
DON'T take him b/c if you have a serious illness and can't make it to class like I did, it doesn't matter. He knows what he is talking about but unless you like jumping through his hoops DON'T take him. I dropped the class b/c I didn't feel like doing the busy work he assigns and b/c I missed 2 classes and had my grade dropped 10% NOT RECOMMENDED
He may give a lot of homework but its nothing hard just reading two chapters each class and about three essay quizes, he was very flexible with my class and let us have take home quizes and finals. UNLESS you are prepareed to work for your grade dont take his class. if you want to expereince a real college class take his class
HIGHLY disliked this guy. His online format of this class was absolutely ridiculous! Everything that you needed was all over the website and it was a pain searching everywhere for something. He doesn't respond to emails and he grades things like 2 weeks after you turn it in. Overall, I would NEVER take a class by him EVER again.
lolol-- The others who reviewed Tim must be serious slackers. This guy is a good guy/great communicator. I'm an online student, and this guy was so totally helpful that I'd gladly take another course, despite the really hard final paper. A TON of work for this class, but very rewarding. Never knew he was liberal, and I'm a total right-winger.
He is a hard teacher. Lots of reading everynight. Thing are pretty easy though, as long as you do the reading.
He is a difficult teacher but knows his stuff. If you are looking to improve your learning skills, he is golden. He is NOT good for a blow off class.
This guy may know his stuff but that doesnt make him a good teacher. I am supposed to write an essay on "the topic shown below" but whats funny is that there is no topic shown below. The guy isn't helpful, don't take his class. People say it's a college grade class. Just because it's difficult doesnt make it so.
very hard for a 100 class. do not take him unless you are hardcore history major. highest grades were in the low 90%s. grades hard with little explaination of criteria.
Awesome guy and great teacher. The people who are complaining that he was 'hard' are being over-dramatic. You have to go to class, it's college. You might have to read a book or two but he sometimes let us be in groups OR take home the test. If you read the assignments and discuss in class, you'll get an A. Not that hard, and he's really cool.
Tim Draper was a horrible teacher. I took the online version of this clas and we had literally 40 bulletin postings throughout the ENTIRE summer. we had 2 examination essays to do which had 3 parts in each one and 1 writing project worth 100 points. For the writing project, he doesn't make the topic clear. and he grades unfairly. don't recommend!!!
Took his online course. NEVER updated information on the website-literally 1 year old. NEVER answers emails. Other kids in my class had the SAME problem. Failed me and wouldn't say why. I had to protest the grade and ended up having it changed to a W. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Do NOT take a class with Draper. His class is not hard because students are lazy, his class is hard because he gives a ridiculous amount of material doesn't care what grade you get. I always get A's or an occasional B in my classes but somehow I have an F from him. Its not the student it is the teacher. Save yourself the trouble.
Draper is a very smart guy, which sucks. I am normally very good with essays and exams but his wording trips me up and he is impossible to b.s. when you don't know the material front and back. I really like him as a person and I am impressed with his vocabulary but I would never take another class with him again.
Not the best at leading discussions but he gets into the source material pretty well and has a good understanding of what he's talking about.
Worst teacher I have taken by far at Waubonsee. Attendance was mandatory no matter what He makes you write down exactly how many times you talk daily. His lectures jump everywhere extremely hard to understand even if you look over your notes. Not to mention the daily quizes are detailed quizes are extremely challenging.Save ur self the trouble !!
This guy really struggles with communication. Not everyone can connect the dots that he has plastered all over his brain, which makes his lectures extremely hard to follow. His "quizzes" are extremely difficult, and he does require that you remember insignificant details from the book. I ended up with an A, but I did feel a lack of communication.
He's one of the hardest teachers you will ever take. His quizes are extreme. You practically have to memorize the book. He understands us more than you think he does. He apreatiates the ones who dont give u on a challange and if you show up he will help you do well. I love this teacher and he is probably my second favorite teacher so far!
This is by far the worst class I have ever taken in three years of college. There are three assignments that make up your grade. The instructions are vague and confusing. He does not respond to emails, and when he does it takes over a week. I have been waiting over a month to get my first exam graded. Terrible teacher.
Dont take this class inless you love chaos. This professor doesnt realize that we are all not history majors. His tests do not make any sense. He requires you to write about 1863 to 1939 etc. To many things were going on in history to sum it all up the way he wants. He should quit teaching and work as a historian or a job away from people.
If you want an easy ride DON'T take his class. If you want to learn and have interesting give and take conversations I would highly recommend him. He is very HARD, possibly too hard for a 100 level class, but if you actually put forth a good amount of effort and TALK IN CLASS you will be fine.
Clearly a smart guy, but is definitely the worst teacher I've ever had, period, for any subject. I actually really love history but he made class nearly unbearable. His lectures are incredibly hard to follow and the detail he requires you to be able to recall is insane. He should not teach.
He's a really amazing teacher. He makes you critically think, and work hard, but I learned so much from him. His class really prepared me for college level work. People sometimes don't like him because his class is work intensive, but it's incredibly worthwhile.
He expects way too much from students. I don't think it crosses his mind that we have other classes. He has you reading at least 40 pages in each textbook for each class period, expects students to remember an insane amount of detail, grades very harshly, and takes too long to grade work and students are unable to receive feedback.
if you are a full time student i advise u not to take this class. he is very hard and i failed his class and i usually get a's in history. im retaking it online and i will see how it goes since i am going part time...good luck to those whose going take it
Very knowledgeable instructor. He is very willing to help if needed and if you get an A in his class you've definitely learned something. However don't take his class unless you are a history major, he is extremely hard and it is challenging. I'm a CRJ major and his class was way more work then I bargained for in a gen. ed. elective.
He is very smart, and demands a lot of work from you. I took the online class, you need to participate in weekly discussions. Two tests the whole class, each consisting of three mini essays. LOTS of reading and citing and book work and projects. If you really really want in depth knowledge then take him, if you need a credit, keep on looking.
Professor Draper was very clear of requirements and expectations for the class. If you did the assignments and wrote the papers then you did well in the class. Alot of writing, but very interesting. I took the on-line class, and if I had a question, I emailed him and he responded back in an appropriate amount of time.
I took his class online. He took forever to reply to e-mails. He was never really clear on directions and when I asked for clarification he copy and pasted instructions instead of further explaning. No help there. He never checked online discussion boards but graded very hard on tests and writing paper.
He expected way too much out of everyone. He treated everyone like we were history buffs and knew everything. Yes I have an interest in history, but I'm not very good at it and he made it so I couldn't keep up. He was too hard on us and needs to relax and realize not everyone can keep up and learn so quickly. I suggest against him as a professor.
Horrible class. He is the hardest professor i have ever had. There is wayyyy too much reading, too many quizzes and an insane amount of your grade is participation, which is hard to do if you do not understand the reading. he is very arrogant and likes to show off how smart he is. I don't not recommend this professor.
This professor is very unclear with his lectures, they are more of a rant then teaching. Most of what you learn is from the book that was written no later then 1902. You are expect to cite the book sections in the midterm and final when you have read over 70. I do not recommend this professor
one of the worst teachers i've had at waubonsee completely useless for questions and don't try to get ahold of him because you more than likely wont hear back seems like the class is not priority for him but it is supposed to be for students. super frustrating.
ridiculous amount of reading. He is way to advanced of a teacher for a basic course. DO NOT TAKE UNLESS YOU ARE A HISTORY MAJOR!
This is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. His lectures are confusing. His quizzes are actually mini in class papers that are harshly graded, and he expects his students to be history majors when we first walk into his class. DON'T USE THIS TEACHER!
I'm shocked by the amount of low reviews Dr. Draper receives. He is tough but he teaches at a University level. He respects his students, gives out extra credit, and curves scores like no other. If you read, write and attend class, you will get an A or B gaurtenned.
The topics in this class are very interesting. I was very excited about the information I was going to learn but Draper ruined that for me. He gives quizzes everyday that you walk in and does not explain things clearly. Midterm is extremely hard and you have stay on readings at all time. I do not recommend this teacher. I will not take him again!
He is not a very friendly professor. Almost everyday expect to have to read over 30 pages. Make sure to do everything in pen or he will make you do the entire assignment over again. Does not like any type of electronic device or talking at all during his class. His class is much like high school all over again dont suggest it.
Never take a class with draper. You will have to read 30 pages at the LEAST every night and have a test EVERYDAY do NOT take a class with him ever
Run away! If you don't plan to major in History don't take him! Be prepared to read about 30-45 pages every night. He quizzes you in every class. Participation matters. You need to participate at least 3 times per class. He is a tough grader. Black ink only no pencil. If you miss any readings you will run behind.
A lot of people don't realize what they are getting into when the take Dr. Draper's classes. Students over exaggerate the amount of reading he assigns. 1 or 2 primary sources before each class. No more than 20-30 pages really. I understand not everyone is a history major but expect a larger workload at a traditional 4 year, he is a good teacher.
Took him for History of Africa one year and he grades like you're getting your master's degree. You have to read every night; from about 20- 100 or so pages a night. Had to buy 5 books and had to read them all from front to back, including the textbook. I had to put in an incredible amount of work to get that "A". Wouldn't recommend him at all.
This is class was enjoyable, but get ready to read every day. He expects you to do the work that is asked of you. Draper's teaching style will get you ready for a four year institution. Partition is mandatory for a better grade. Exams are essay style, so one has the ability to explain the answer in their own words. Grading is fair.
I have a degree, I've taken graduate courses, but I've never had a course this intense for such a low level. At the beginning of the course he casually mentions something along the lines of, "It's unfortunate, but a lot of people drop the class." There's a reason! If you're not a history major, there are a ton of other classes you can take instead.
Reading your textbook is practically mandatory for his class, he gives quizzes most days. He expects a lot out of his students and teaches a lot of information. His class and teaching style was helpful for me as a history major but if you're just taking history as a gen-ed, there are easier ones out there for you definitely.
This class was more about writing papers. If you take this class be prepared to write at least three extensive essays, 2 of them are the tests. You will do an inordinate amount of reading and this professor is the toughest grader ever. I felt so overwhelmed in the first week of class and I have been taking classes for 4 years.
2nd class I've had to drop with this teacher. He treats you like this is a high school class, but then expects graduate level work. I cannot respect a guy who patronizes me for asking a very honest question about what was expected on an essay. Maybe he was just having a bad day. I'll never know. Don't take this as an elective. Find something better
Stay far away from this Instructor. A ton of work that is very unclear. Syllabus does not help as the format is incredibly hard to follow. When asking for help he states "Follow your syllabus" Yet when asking for clarification, he will not follow up with your concern. No good at all.
Get the books. Lots of discussion board questions EVERY DAY. 2 exams, both essays, 1 paper (about 5 pages) that need to be written in Chicago style. Took this as a 3 week course & it gave me a run for my money. Wouldn't have taken this class but it was req. for my major. If you don't HAVE to take it, find something else, or take a different teacher
Great teacher! He really challenges you to think about history, you just really gotta work for it. His classes were very informative.
Professor/Dr. Draper is a smart man, who has an incredible passion for history. However, he's rather disillusioned with his position. He teaches a community college gen ed like one would teach a graduate level course. He is vague about instructions, or writes incomplete thoughts into his essay prompts. Do not take, this man does not go easy on you.
Very, very, hard profressor. He's very smart and knows what he is talking about but he does not do well with explaining information. You have to be very self sufficient to thrive in his classes, it's just not worth the time.
I usually am not one to fail any class but I did for this one...I would not consider having him for a teacher again. Expected way too much for essays and just overall the worst teacher I've ever had.
I took this class online to lighten my load, but I had the most homework in this class. He assigns several posts for the discussion board weekly, and for the midterm he requires you write three essays. For the final you write three essays and you have to do a huge research paper. He grades pretty easy, but it's not a blow off!
Took this class with my love of history, and I think without it I would have struggled and enjoyed Prof. Draper's class less. If you take his class, be ready to read the textbook every night and a lot of writing and discussion in class. Learned a lot from his class though.
He is a tough professor, that's for sure. He expects a lot of reading and participation, which wasn't my favorite either at the beginning. BUT I believe he grades fairly and his methods for teaching are important in engaging students properly into the course work. If you don't want to work hard then should you really be enrolled in college?
I did well in his class but I really had to put forth a lot of effort, which made for many late nights. Lots of reading and hard essays with a lot of information that had to be memorized. Unfortunately, I feel that he is one of those teachers that makes you feel dumb if you don't get a question correct. he'll call on you when you least expect it.
Professor Draper is a good professor but can be difficult if you do not put effort into the class. Almost weekly quizzes and alot of reading. Also be prepared for plenty of homework.
He is a good teacher & VERY knowledgeable. However, this course is a community college & expectations are of graduate level. Lots of reading. I purchased the xtra books in audio. DO IT! I dropped this online twice. If you LOVE history, take it in person. I loved the books. Not dry. I would of loved to take in person. Worth the money.
Professor Draper is obviously passionate about history. But amidst his enthusiasm, he forgets that he's not teaching a class of graduate students. I took this class online so I could quickly get my associate's degree by the end of the summer, but it ended up consuming all of my time. Exams are laborious, beware of weird deadlines, a stressful class
Professor Draper is absolutely EXTRAORDINARY. Words cannot express how much I have benefited from the classes I took with him. He sincerely loves what he does, and is incredibly passionate about history. He will push you to your full potential - so, be ready to work. He cares for his students a great deal, and genuinely wants to see them grow.
I agree with most of the posts about Dr. Draper. Though he's extremely intelligent, he's just not good at teaching others. I asked him a question and specifically told him I had already looked at the course schedule and syllabus for more information but still had a question. His response to me was to look at the course schedule. Very condescending.
An excellent professor, passionate and knowledgable about the subject he teaches. He can be tough, but he's fair. Put simply, his classes are all dependent on the amount of effort a student is willing or able to put forward. Do your best and you'll be fine.
I took this as an accelerated online class during the summer - 16 weeks packed into 3 weeks! - to finish my GenEds and transfer them back to my school. I found Prof. Draper to be knowledgeable and passionate about history-it's a tough course but he shoots from the hip and grades fairly. Do the work and you'll be fine.
No quizes and exams but heavy load papers, instructions are confusing on those too.
This class was insanely hard for such little outcome. Tiny mistakes made a huge impact on your over all grade and there was no reversing them.
Very knowledgable teacher/decent person. Uses a contract system where you decide your grade. At least 2 documents and 10 textbook pages to read before every class. Not many things you're graded on. Keep up with the portfolio, because that's the big grade for the entire semester, along with the paper. Typical class: lecture and quiz. Workload-HUGE.
Very rarely do I wish that school could not be done remotely. When I first started this course, it was the face-to-face course. I thought that based on the ratings he would be adequate. But I was blown away with his lectures. Tim gave you a great image and backdrop of the era being taught, and always treated you professionally. A true mentor.
Professor Draper is well versed in the subject of History, but he is a very poor teacher in my experience. The content that he "teaches" is organized and put together, however as a freshman I think that the workload is too much. I say "teaches" because in this online class, I am teaching myself, he is just there to give resources and assign work.
Whew, never in my life would I have thought about killing myself over missed assignments. I hated history before, but I hate it even more after taking his class. Class is whatever, a lot of content, but no instruction. It's hard to understand when he's not actually teaching. Just follow the syllabus, and there's a LOT of work for little points.
He's a bright instructor, just gives vague instructions. His grading is too tough on final exams, when everything else is graded for less. Overall, the workload is terrible because he gives little to no instruction. We basically read what he gives us and teach ourselves. The instruction we DO get doesn't clarify anything. I dreaded logging in.
NOT ORGANIZED, HISTORY TEACHES SHOULD NOT BE SO JUDGEMENTAL ON A PAPERS FORMAT! I DID NOT LEARN ANYTHING OTHER THEN HOW TO SUPPORT MY FELLOW STUDENTS IN THIS INSTRUCTORS CLASS! DO NOT TAKE THIS GUYS CLASSES DO NOT EVEN DO IT!
He seems like very very smart professor, maybe one from Harvard. But it was very tricky to understand him and there wasn't many ways to earn points. He locked the assignments and you were never allowed to remake any of them up. There was 2 main things besides reading every week, and those pretty much counted for your whole grade. Hard class
Professor Draper did not give very much instruction at all for this class the entire semester. All of our grades were 1 point discussion boards and 7 point group projects, and our final grade is a 100 point paper and a 45 point "exam", which is just a bunch of essays. Not worth it and was more specific about the format of the paper than assignments
Professor Draper is tough, but he teaches well. He allows you to decide what grade your want by doing the work that you can do. The class requires a lot of reading, but you learn if you want to. He's a good professor.
Dont take his courses. do not expect him to be helpful with anything. He cares more about formatting than anything, and will give you a zero if your format is off the slightest bit no matter the effort you may put towards the paper. He also doesnt seem to care as many other students in my class also had problems accessing his online content.
I hate history now because of this professor. I used to think history is beautiful. This professor is the worst teacher in the history of teachers. He doesn't care if you are struggling. grades are based on 2 papers with no option to retry. Format of paper is important than content. Never take his class. you will regret for the rest of your life.
Dr. Draper is one of the best, if not the best, professors I have ever had. He epitomizes everything great about higher education, the professional study of history, and is a excellent mark on Waubonsee's record. If you are a history major, love history, and are willing to put in the hard work good history demands, you will love this class.
I heard that he was a terrible professor before I signed up but still decided to give him a try. I was already behind on the first day and I just couldn't catch back up. He gives so much homework and so many papers and a majority of the assignments are group based so even if you do a good job, it depends on your group.
In honesty, I think Mr. Draper was the worst professor I've ever had. I took HIS122 because I had to for my Associated Degree and figured it would be a little blowoff class, spoilers IT WAS NOT! You will get at least 6-7 assignments every week, including group projects, a big paper, several essays, and he was very slow on communication. Don't take
I was nervous about taking professor Draper's class due to the negative reviews; however, it wasn't nearly as bad as some reviews say. There wasn't too much homework, and the course was set up to where you could do it entirely online. I'll admit there was a lot of writing, but it definitely wasn't too much for a college-level course.
Draper is fine to take for an online class, however the final exam would've been the required essay to write and not three essays that could've been split up throughout the course, albeit six group projects. The deadline however for 8 AM is not pretty ideal, and even if you run behind, you're in for plenty of night owl days.
I had to drop the class after a few days because there were assignments due almost every day! There was an assignment due on a Saturday morning! An online class should give you all the materials for the week and then have them due at the end of the week. The point of an online class is it have some freedom to do the assignments when you want to.
Dr. Draper is very heavy on essays. He assigns what is called a "Writing Project" and makes you use primary sources from a textbook. Then there is the final examination which is 3 short essays all due within a week from each other at the end of the semester. He is a hard grader and provides little to no support if you're struggling in his class.
Emailed for help multiple times and go ZERO feedback/help. Proceeded to threaten me with a zero if I did not get ahold of the concept that I clearly stated I needed help with. Ended up contacting the district board. He made it very clear he does not care about the grades of his students and rather is there for a paycheck.
This class has a lot of assignments, but as long as you stay on top of them and start projects early, you'll be able to pass the class. I'd definitely recommend starting your big assignments like the writing project and final papers early in the semester so you don't have to cram it all in at the end of the semester, it will be difficult!!
Prof. Draper's online HIS120 course is mostly just you reading through modules and cramming in work when you can. The course itself is not VERY hard, however, if you want a prof. that communicates with you, do not take this one.
I received a negative score on a homework assignment for not including citations. I understand taking a few points off but a negative score is ridiculous. I do not recommend Dr. Draper because he does not care whether or not his students succeed and it almost seems he wants them to fail.
From the confusingly vague instructions, copious amounts of assignments, and the disorganized layout of the course. I would not recommend taking any classes with this professor. Doing this course feels like putting together a puzzle that was tossed into a paper shredder.
Very rude. Has given me multiple snarky remarks, so I happily game some back. If you want an uninterested, hand off teacher, Timmy's your guy!
Class was 100% online, and requires you to purchase a textbook & multiple reading materials. Assignments due almost every other day at 8 AM(unusual time for assignments to be due in online classes)not to mention the workload. back to back assignments, group projects, huge paper due at the end required to be in Chicago Style and no support from him
Dr. Draper is EASILY the WORST professor/teacher I have ever had. When often contacting for help, he is rude and says "Look at the rubric" or "Follow the syllabus", and doesn't follow up if you have any other questions. If you do the work, you should be fine. Never take him, UNLESS you want a professor that never helps.
He was not that bad at all, it was inconvenient that everything was due at 8:00am but got used to it. This professor also LOVES discussion posts so if you don't like those I don't advise this course. He was very easy to work with if you participate and will do anything to help you. He does everything based on the course books, but I liked it.
I took HIS101 online during the summer. It's a lot of work, with 3 assignments a day that take about 30 mins to an hour. If you think about it, we have to cover 1500 years of history in 6 weeks, so a lot of work is expected. He is helpful and has clear grading criteria, so as long as you can follow a schedule and rubric, you'll be fine.
Mr. Draper was an amazing professor and by far one of my favs. His class is pretty easy if you do all your work on time. There were discussion assignments twice a week, each due the next morning at 8am, giving you time to complete them all night. The final paper was easy to put together too if you did the previous assignments correctly.
This class is definitely a tough one with a lot of homework. 6 discussion posts, a library assignment, and group projects due every week. A 3 essay exam and a 7 page paper due at the end. If you follow along with everything the paper isn't too bad. A lot of work but I'm the end I felt like I actually learned something.
Do not take the one month HIS111 summer class. Very high speed - expect 3 to five assignments a day. Midterm and final exams are essay questions using sources from a textbook. On top of that, you have a seven page paper to write as well. A lot of it is participating in discussions. Do not expect this to be an 'easy' 100 level class.
I added on this online class to complete my humanities credit, however on my third submitted assignment (a two-point quiz), he gave me a 0 because I didn't put my name, the date, and course number at the top. For an online course, this is a little ridiculous, especially with the sheer amount of assignments. Also, he requires you to buy 4 textbooks.

This professor is very difficult, at times it felt like passing was impossible. He may come across as if he doesn't care, which is very convincing, but as long as you constantly communicate with him it is possible to pass his class with a good grade. So DONT STAY QUIET IF YOU ARE STRUGGLING!!!!!
I would never take a class from this teacher. First, you are required to buy 4 books and you need to take a photo with them to prove you purchased them. If you forget to put your name, date, and course number even in a text box entry it will be graded a zero. He teaches at a community college but acts as if he is the head of a PhD program.
Assigned a brutal writing project (7 pages long...), which caused a bunch of late nights.. Another thing I found weird with Tim is that everything is due at 8 AM. Your ENTIRE grade is down to 1 pt. discussions, 6 group projects, and the writing project. He also assigns a Final Examination, 3 essays (500 words a piece) all about different topics.
This class requires a lot of work, but stick with it and you'll learn a lot. The professor is tough but fair - just be sure to stay on top of the weekly assignments and utilize resources like Unstuck AI for study prep. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding experience.
If you take history 101.920 with him, drop it. In the first 5 days of an online class, he gives you 9 assignments with most of them due the day after they are posted being a Wednesday. I stupidly thought this would be like most other online classes and hopped on Canvas on Sunday to get them done only to find they are late and cannot be made-up.
I had an extremely negative experience with one of my college professors. The professor consistently demonstrated a lack of professionalism, or outright disregard. Efforts to seek clarification on course material or assignments were met with minimal support, and grading practices appeared arbitrary and lacked transparency.
Dr. Draper by far is the toughest grader I've experienced. He expects you to follow the rubric perfectly and if you don't, expect a zero. His rubrics are very hard to understand and follow. Also be prepared to buy at least 4 textbooks and for group projects. The weekly workload was a lot & 7 page essay and 1,500 word essay as the final
Tim Draper was great. I don't know why he has such a low review. He was easy to approach, and he replied quickly in the course. There were a lot of discussion posts to go through, but it's a one-month course, and they have to go through a lot of material.
He's really knowledgeable and organized. I took a flex class and went in person most days to stay focused. There are required readings each week and homework is due at 8 AM always. He teaches important skills like research, using the library, and how to write like a historian. If you procrastinate, it will come back to bite you. Do all assignments.
I was so scared for this class based on the reviews here but it turned out to be my fav class of the semester. HW is not difficult, just turn it in and make sure the content is correct. You have a final essay but if u start early you'll be fine, and he helps you write it and gives u the guideline at the beginning of the semester. take him.
This class was very difficult. Not a fair grader in my opinion and is way too tough on students. He does not reply to emails and comes across in a rude tone. His rubric and syllabus is very confusing and hard to understand.
Lots of papers, lots of textbook readings, overall a difficult online class that is not worth the struggle. Would not recommend.
Hauling myself out of bed at 6 am once a week was not worth it for this class. The amount of work that was assigned was absurd. I would not take this class, and I am happy I never have to because I would rather join a Mormon cult than take this class again.
Tim is a mess. Canvas was riddled with typos. He even had a typo on the final exam and changed it 3 days before. He won't explain his grading, and he actively resents you for taking his class. If you want a teacher who is just there for the paycheck, Tim is your guy. But if you want a teacher who cares, try someone else.
