He doesn't help his students with anything. And when he critiques he is a total jerk. Don't take him if you're afraid of public speaking. Save yourself the trouble and anxiety!

Not a good Professor at all. He is very unclear about what he wants in a speech and he wants you to write a speech based on how he would write in and has no acceptance for your own interpretation. He demeans students in his critique's and offers no ways to fix your mistakes. However on the plus side he's a pretty nice dude outside the class setting

Very inconsistent grader who's not very approachable. Dresses completely unprofessionally and isn't clear on expectations with the exception being attendance. Would not recommend unless you like to second guess what's expected of you for speeches.

DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! Worst professor I have ever had. He made it extremely clear he did not want to be here. He is very intimidating especially for incoming freshman who are still figuring out life on campus. He treats you like you are a senior. He yells at everyone for very minor reasons, and for being a speech class no one felt comfortable speaking

Tim is a very particular grader when it comes to speech outlines. Even if you make small errors, it cost you big time grade wise. He's also very hard to approach if you have questions because he just makes you feel dumb about it. Not a nice person and he plays weird rock music before every class be aware.

I would never take him again. He was so rude and I felt very uncomfortable the whole time I had him. He dresses very unprofessional and if you ask him a question he answers it like you're stupid. Very unclear on what to do and I tried so hard and basically failed the class. Do not take him, you'll thank me later.

I took this class my first semester and it consumed all of my time. Tim assigns a speech with little background but provides a confusing outline with it and downgrades you even if your speech follows the exact requirements. It feels as if he pulls a number out of a hat when grading, and overall the hardest B I have ever earned. Not worth the stress

Timothy talks in a very monotone voice and likes to yell. This was my freshman speech class and I hated every moment of it. He is a hard grader on speeches and is very vague on how he wants the homework done, but yet, it better be to his liking. Would avoid if possible.

Timothy Ernst is the worst professor ever!!!!! Do not take him your freshmen year you will regret it, I promise!! He thinks he is funny and no one laughs at his jokes and tries to get on the students level and fails every time! He gives off the impression that the students are all dumb and never explains what/how to do assignments! DO NOT TAKE HIM!

He is very condescending and doesn't seem to care about his students very much. He talks down to you a lot and makes you feel really stupid.

Tim is an awful teacher, he gives you outlines that if you go off of it you will be down graded. He doesn't have a clue what he is talking about, and really hard to understand. He doesn't care about anything that comes through the door.

Tim Ernst isn't the best professor for a freshman introductory course. He comes across as rude and is a hard grader. His grading scale is inconsistent and you must follow his example outlines step-by-step if you want a good grade. My advice, if you can avoid him, do it! If you are stuck with him, follow his outlines and do the extra credit to pass.

Tim knows what he is talking about in class but fails to teach it. He is very rude to students and pretty much makes fun of the class. He is a very tough grader. I received an A in his class but I worked hard for it. He actually made me scared to come to class every day but if you don't show up and put in all of your effort, you will fail.

He has a way of making the class feel stupid. If you ask a question, he makes the comment that it's really not that hard, asks you what the problem is, and never answers your question! If you really want to properly learn how to give a speech, and value yourself, avoid him at all costs!!!

Tim is the worst professor Ive ever had. So rude to his students and makes you feel stupid for asking a question. Plays weird heavy metal music at the beginning of every class. Class is a lot of work and I dread going to his class every single day. Do yourself a favor and never take this guy for any class.

Scary. When he reads your outline, he is clearly disappointed and usually shows strong frustration.

I looked at these other reviews after I had already signed up for his class and I now know that it was a terrible decision. Tim Ernst is one of the worst professor/teacher I have ever had. In this comm class you have more speeches than others as well as harder speeches. I strongly recommend not taking this teacher unless you have to.

Worst professor I've had in more than 4 years of college education. Scoffs at students, tries to make them feel/look stupid. Unprofessional, arrogant, pessimistic. He gave me 4 absences when I was there, to give me a zero for the semester's participation/attendance. I disputed this and received my points, but 3 is a lot. He shouldn't teach.

Tim was not a good teacher for Comm 111. He makes his students feel stupid and not respected. Be prepared to do 2x the work than any other Comm 111 class at UW-Oshkosh. He is a tough grader and makes you feel more uncomfortable with public speaking. The only good thing about thing about this class was we got a break during the hour and a half.

Awful professor. He was rude and inconsiderate. He made us do essays on the reading every week. Really tough grader. If you can get a different professor for Comm 111 do it.

Textbook narcissist; observe for yourself. Arrogant, condescending, seems to be proving to himself he is smarter than students. Casts negativity over entire classroom. Projects his insecurities, makes/takes everything as a personal issue. It's not your fault if he hates you or doesn't. You MUST report concerns early(maybe often) to keep him honest.

Arbitrary and strict grading criteria, condescending demeanor, uncomfortable environment all around. Got a D on a review assignment, ended up dropping this class and taking it with another professor instead, passed that class with an A. Anyone else from the Comm department is probably an improvement to Ernst.

Dudes rude about everything possible. It makes you sound stupid even though youre not. I didn't like the class from the start only because of how hard he made the outlines for class speeches.

He's awful. So rude and not understanding at all. Speeches are so difficult. Outlines are so specific and useless. Even if you do everything right, you'll be wrong. Tim Ernest is straight up mean. He has absolutely no sympathy for students and acts like he hates all of us. He's obsessed with wrestling and heavy metal music & is always playing it when you walk into class. Don't make sudden movements, talk or touch your phone otherwise he'll stare at you & make a scene. He prides himself on making the class hard

Tim Ernst is mean. He has zero sympathy. He is a tough grader who doesn't care about you. He didn't like me & tended to criticize my assignments more than my classmates when it was clear that the grade I got did not reflect what I should've gotten. I put countless hours into this class & it didn't seem to pay off in his eyes. Don't take him.

Avoid at all costs. Terrible and god forbid you stand too early at the end of class. He only has a mind for his own opinion so don't bother speaking your own, you'll get your head ripped off. I would never take him again as a teacher.

Avoid this class at all costs. This man does not care about his students nor does he care about your feelings. He's going to tell you that his rating on here doesn't reflect who he is, but trust me, it does. Be ready to get your speeches tore up and maybe even cry.

I had a bad experience with him. I sat in the front, participated, and worked really hard on my papers... however, I was treated with little to no respect from him and it affected my grades. I don't recommend taking him if you are easily offended. The work itself was not bad, but he is a hard grader so good luck. Also do not be late/ miss class.

Timothy Ernst is a mean man. No introductory speech class should be this hard, he prides himself in making this class extremely hard. He contradicts himself all the time. His canvas page is set up HORRIBLY and gets frustrated when students have a hard time finding something... well maybe he shouldn't have a 15+ different pages for one assignment.

Ernst is hands down the worst professor I've ever had. The class is very tough. If you have anxiety, good luck! At first, he acted as if he was understanding to those who had a fear of public speaking but he will tear you apart if you look even a little nervous. He does not explain course material well and will dock you for things he didn't teach.

1 word. Rude. The class required you to have meetings outside of class and talk about the speech you were giving and was often times rude about that. He had a question in a DTS asking how are we doing and made sure to specify that the only reason he asked that was because he was being criticized for being too mean. Timothy Ernst was a terrible professor, especially for a freshman public speaking class. He gave mean comments and little positive feedback on speeches (almost like he enjoyed tearing them apart). I was not nervous for speeches in High School, but in this class he made each speech more stressful than it needed to be. TAKE ANY OTHER PROFESSOR!!

Timothy Ernst is someone who prides himself on the difficulty of the course. He is very arrogant, and though he emphasizes being open-minded, he is very closed minded. He tends to contradict himself often. You will pass the class, but it WILL NOT be one that you enjoy going to, solely because of Ernst. Attempt to find someone else.

Out of all the classes in my 15 years of school, I have never hated a class more than this one. Timothy Ernst found joy in humiliating his students and constantly degrading them. I never felt like he was there to help or teach, just to prove you were wrong and he was right. He showed little respect towards his students. Ended up dropping.

During the mask mandate, I got kicked out for putting on chapstick and received dirty looks from him every time I drank water. I also watched him storm out of the room angrily on multiple occasions, and he kicked a girl out for dozing off in class. He wasn't that assignment heavy, but the class itself and the way it was taught was very stressful.

He gives very harsh criticism for the way you read and present the speech... He is a hard grader and he would always be like "come to me if you have questions" but if you would ask him questions, he would respond "I explained it in the lecture, maybe if you were listening you would know" Overall, this class just gave me a lot of anxiety..

I took Timothy Ernst in my sophomore year for public speaking. This man had no empathy for anyone. In all my years of school, this is downright the worst professor I have ever had. He would belittle students, make them feel stupid, and act like he was better than everyone else. His class was so awful, I ended up withdrawing halfway through.

I had Ernie for COMM111 my freshman year. I'm a senior now and I have to say that he was the worst professor I have ever had. He has no empathy for students, and got a kick out of belittling students. He prided himself by being an amazing public speaker, but we were all required to take the course, it was not an option.
