I hated going to class everyday. There is just the midterm, final, 2 papers, and pop quizzes. The quizzes are based on the reading and it's an average of 30 pages due per class. He is unclear with what he wants with the papers. He expects a lot out of his students, and for this class being a GenEd and a 101, it felt like a 300.

IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE THIS CLASS, DON'T! But, if you have to, I heard Fitzgerald is better than Chappell. SOO much reading, it's almost impossible to do. He's a really nice guy, and does love what he teaches about, but as far as making history clear to us--not good at it. Midterm, Final, 2 papers and participation/"quizzes" = your grade.

He was really passionate and obviously knows the material inside and out but his expectations for a 101 class were very high. I recommend taking the class if you are an upper classmen and can keep up with/are used to the work but it would have overwhelmed me as a freshmen. Bottom line. Read. Go to class. Prof Fitz knows what he's doing. The class actually makes older history sound interesting and important. And it's not that hard, really, you can get any grade you want, but you'll need to do the work. He's super helpful outside of class. One not expensive textbook and it's not a bad read too.

Professor Fitzgerald is one of the most caring professors I have ever had. He was willing to work with me when I came down with bad mental health problems, and for that I am eternally grateful. There is a bit of reading, but not that much in my opinion. You're expected to ask questions (which is easy if you JUST PAY ATTENTION. Very fun professor.

Fitzgerald relies too much on asking for student input when clearly students haven't come prepared to class. This takes away from the lectures (which are generally good, though sometimes rushed). There's a fair amount of reading, and he's a pretty tough grader. A good grade is manageable, but you have to put in the time and work. Go to office hours

Amazing lectures and very fair grading. The topic is hard, and the readings are very dense which makes the class far more difficult. Tests were 1600 words in 24 hours, although 3/2 prompts were provided in the study guide. The class got a bad rep, and while it was difficult it was interesting and he did a good job.

This class was too hard for a Gen ED. He treats this class as if all of the students are history majors. There is so much reading each week and he doesn't give text on his powerpoint slides, only pictures, so you have to listen extra hard to get the important information in your notes. I would not recommend unless you love history.
