Super nice guy. Teaches tough subjects, but he wants all of his students to pass so he curves a lot which is nice. I would take him again.
Great Professor. Very caring guy. Business analytics is a hard class, but he is there to help you every step. You WILL learn.
Took him for interterm and it was definitely the best decision I made. MGSC 207 is one of the hardest business requirement class and during interterm you can focus on just that one class. Tim also curves and allows you to set how you want your grade to be weighted! Super helpful and learned alot.
Great professor with a sharp mind. In his class you'll cover material quickly, but thoroughly. If you have questions, go to his office hours. Very helpful and informative! He also is funny, which is a total plus.
A+ professor
Really caring professor but very challenging, in a good way. Wants you to succeed but you have to work for it.
Go to his class and listen. Most of the stuff you do in class is on the midterm/final. The homework isn't terribly hard, but will teach you a lot very quickly. Definitely take Tim.
The class itself is difficult but Professor Frenzel did a good job of going through the processes. Would take this class again even though I struggled a little bit, but everyone was knowledgeable about the basics of excel at the end.
Professor Frenzel combines theory with application. You will use analytical tools and models to interpret real-world situations. You are assigned a group for the duration of the semester, which is for a project that requires your team to identify a problem from a real dataset. Ask questions! Go to his office hours. You will learn a lot from him.
Amazing practitioner, less than par teacher.
This professor is very knowledgeable and shows his passion for finance. I would highly recommend this professor if you are interested in thoroughly learning about finance.
Absolutely fantastic. Difficult class, especially with the shortened summer schedule, but just try and you can pass. Don't be afraid to ask questions he'll explain them in an easy and succinct manner. If you want an easy grade take someone else, if you want to learn take it with him.
Frenzel is awesome. He might come off as a little intimidating and cold but once you get to know him, he's more than just a stiff German investment banker turned college professor! I struggled with MGSC 207 but because his class had a group project and smaller assignments, I was able to pass with a decent grade. If you need help, just ask him!!!!
Lectures are very fast-paced, but he's available after class to answer questions and has office hours. He also will upload what was done in class and that was very helpful. There's a group project and most of the classwork are done in groups. The tests gradually get harder, but as long as you study and pay attention in class you'll pass.
Tim's honestly a very well respected dude. He's very smart and is very accomplished. However this class was defintely a challenge for me because it was the first class in my minor series. The concepts in the class are easy to understand eventually, but Tim races through the lectures so you gotta ask him to slow down. Brace yourselves.
He is an incredibly smart guy and does his very best to help you with excel. If you focus in class and use additional material he provides on udaptive, there should be no major problem with getting a decent grade in this class. Most people who give him bad reviews don't take the time and effort to improve in excel if they are struggling.
Professor Frenzel is a very smart guy but his teaching skills belong in a graduate program or honors program. He has unrealistic expectations for his students and makes tests nearly impossible to complete in the allotted time. Unless you are an accounting genius/financial genius, this class will be very difficult to pass.
Lots of assignments and projects with very unclear grading criteria. Expectations set too high for an intro class. Very smart guy with lots of experience. Students will prior knowledge and passion for the material may enjoy his class. Wouldn't recommend if you are learning it for the first time. Lectures are fast paced and cover lots of info.
I like Prof. Frenzel, he's really smart and is obviously passionate about his work. He definitely expects too much for an intro class, the assignments take hours just to decipher, much less complete and the tests aren't much better. I learned from him, but only out of a lot of effort on my end to figure out the material myself. No hard feelings
Although Tim can be tough, there are few professors at Chapman who know their subject matter as well as he does. He clearly cares about his students and Ive learned an abundance about Finance by taking his class. All the stock assignments have proven beneficial even outside of the classroom. I wouldnt hesitate to take another one of his courses.
In one sentence: TAKE HIS CLASS! Frenzel is by far the best professor I've ever had at Chapman. This only adds up with MGSC 207 being my fav Chappy class. Frenzel is a very talented and respected prof. assignments are real world applicable, very clear structure and feedback on grading. tremendous resource for future. def recommend taking him
Professor Frenzel is a VERY smart/cool guy. He knows a lot/everything about the subject and is very willing to help and meet with his students. Although in the course you jump right into the material, it forces you to learn things at a quicker pace. The amount of effort that you put into this class is what you will receive out of it.
I took Professor Frenzel twice for MGSC207 and FIN317. He is a very smart man, and he knows so much about both subjects. Very respectful and easy to reach. You can get an A if you do the work and participate. Make sure to ask for anything you dont understand. No book needed.
Although his class is harder in comparison to other introductory classes, it is harder in that the material is more cumulative and in depth. Professor Frenzel is a very knowledgeable teacher and you'll learn a lot within the course if you put in the effort. He genuinely cares about his students and is very accommodating if you reach out.
This class is very challenging but well worth it. If you are a finance major, I recommend you take Frenzel's class. He is a very cool and funny guy, and is also very knowledgable in this subject. What you learn can actually be applied to the real world. If you want to actually learn, take Frenzel.
I took Tim's business analytics 207 course and was very happy with taking this class. As a business major aspiring to go into finance, Tim's knowledge and real life business experience is an opportunity that every chapman student should take advantage of. May be slightly more difficult but skills in excel and modeling will exceed others greatly.
Mr. Frenzel is one of the most intelligent human beings I have interacted with. If finance is an interest for you, he is a walking encyclopedia. He treats his students with respect and is genuinely very nice. He does demand a lot from his students, if you take his class get ready to really work for your grade and learn.
Prof. Frenzel was an awesome professor! He is very knowledgeable in the field and always is free to offer good advice about the field. The class only has a few assignments but that means you need to make sure you do well on them. His class offers direct real-world applications, immediately. Take his class, you won't regret it.
This course is definitely challenging for an intro class, but you will learn so much from this professor. He applies concepts to the real world and seriously prepares you well for it. I highly encourage going to his office hours; in class he may seem serious but he is a friendly person and it's great if you took time to get to know him better!
Teaching style is hard and you MUST pay attention if you want to learn/pass the class. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you miss even half a class you'll be lost asf. Everything he teaches is applicable to the real world! So really, take any of Professor Frenzel's classes! It may be hard but it's very worth it. Also, he curves :)
If you want an environment that simulates the real "working-world", take Professor Frenzel's class. Expect to think critically, as he raises various financial/ economic situations. You will work with real financial data and do Excel modeling, and do this for current companies for your projects. Few professors are as prepared as he is. Take him.
VERY HARD
Prof. Frenzel is a bit unconventional from other Chapman profs but in the best way. He is very clear about his expectations of you and is not willing to hold anyones hand through his class. If you put in work, he will notice and itll definitely pay off. I highly recommend him if you want to be challenged and make a great networking connection.
The class is hard (mostly because of its content) but this 100% the best professor I've ever had. I'd recommend going to class as often as you can. He cares about your performance, offers office hours, and is extremely helpful. The class/assignments are versatile. This is the #1 Econ class I've learned the most in & gained the most out of.
Caution: not an easy A. I've been told to econometrics with Doti if you don't like it rough. is best prof! No question on if he cares about student's learning. Principled on The Growth Mindset book. This is someone you want to learn from... I hope you want to learn from him because it's a lot of work either way. Coding experience recommended
Professor Frenzel is a brilliant and very well respected individual. He cares a lot about the success of his students and his teaching style is super beneficial for real world applications. Be sure to put in effort and don't be afraid to participate/ask questions! A super cool, genuine guy, you will learn a lot. I highly recommend taking him.
Tough but fair. Prob the mot insightful teacher at chapman. The coding aspect of the class is very challenging but if you put in the hours you can gain some real world exposure. Tim is very nice, that being said, he takes no bs. Take this class if you are interested in creating models that youd actually use in real life. Otherwise, go for Doti.
"Growth Mindset", pretty much sums up Tim's class. He will provide you the framework and the tools, but his class does require you to put in outside work and effort to get a good grade. I highly recommend his class if you want to learn R and to truly learn / challenge yourself. He is a great professor and pretty funny. 10/10 would take again
If you are willing to put in the effort and genuinely want to learn, then I highly recommend taking a course with Professor Frenzel. He does have high expectations, but he provides the tools and guides you through the basics. You will then be encouraged to research and think critically. He does respect and care about his students.
Great professor just assignments are very difficult and he works fast.
Professor Frenzel moves at a quick pace but you actually learn a lot of applicable skills to the real world. For example I directly took my knowledge from the course and applied it to my job. Professor Frenzel also is very willing to help students out of the classroom with non school related projects which is very kind of him.
LOVE TIM! Very cool guy! Steep learning curve at the beginning if you know 0 Excel, but totally doable. I did it even as my 1st semester of college. Pay attention & PUT IN EFFORT and you will learn SO MUCH. Everything you learn will be very useful in real world. DEFINITELY TAKE HIS CLASS. Reserve office hours ahead of times casue they fill up.
This is the type of class where you push and challenge yourself. There is a lot of hard work and time put into this class, but I truly learned a lot. This is the most applicable course to the real job world and while it may be hard is worth it. He requires coding in R so I would recommend brushing up on it. He really cares about his students.
Take this Prof!! I am sure the class is not very difficult is have have experience coding, but I did not, and they class was still ok. If you dont have experience you will have to put in quite a bit of extra work, but he is aware that the subject is difficult, and will give you every opportunity to succeed (if you show you are putting in work).
As a whole, Tim does a good job of making the class both informative and entertaining. Although attendance is not necessary, the classes tend to be fast pace, so you will fall behind if you don't show up.
His office hours are by appointment so you have to plan ahead. Ask questions, participate, and definitely spend time outside of class reviewing the material he puts up because you basically have to teach yourself. VERY HARD to do well even if you try hard. Probably would not recommend it. He is very nice in his office hour appointments though.
Overall a solid course. If you're interested in building trading strategies, or quant finance in general, this class is essential. Before you go in, have a good understanding of R, basic programming, and finance. I recommend having taken MGSC 310, FIN 317, and at least CPSC 230.
Like a lot of things, you get out of this class, what you put into it. It'll be rough, but you'll reach the finish line with confidence and wishing every college course was as informative as this one. Take this awesome class!
Participation in class makes a big difference in your grade, so if you aren't in class, you cannot earn these points. He is very knowledgeable and approachable. Very enjoyable and definitely would take again. Must keep up with class content in order to be successful on homework and tests.
Frenzel is the man. He will push you to your limits, but will also be available outside of class to help you. Learned a lot from his class
Professor Frenzel provides insight to his students that few professors are capable of. His class is rigorous but not impossible, in fact, as long as you follow along in class (attend) you should be alright. Frenzel is also a wizard so his lectures are fantastic.
Prof. Frenzel's class was dense and full of a lot material to learn. However, he made everything very manageable by having clear lectures, plenty of in class and homework assignments for practice, and making himself available to answer extra questions. While you may start slow, there is plenty of opportunity to improve and end with a good grade.
Prof Frenzel is a great professor; he really cares about you getting the bigger picture of what you're learning and how it'll matter in the future. If you aren't familiar with Excel, I'd go over the basics before but he does go over everything you need to know. Take the homework seriously, the tests are based on those and pace yourself on the tests
I took professor Frenzel both for stats and analytics The materials in both courses weren't easy but expect from him to go over various examples explaining how the task is done. He makes it very clear in class what his expectations are, don't hesitate to ask and make sure to follow along the professor is very easygoing, accessible and understanding
He doesn't go over Excel basics before teaching the material. Not many people have a basic understating of excel so it would be nice to be taught it with problems instead of watching videos and then learning the harder stuff. Also having students contact support during an exam is ridiculous. He talks for 40 minutes about nothing then teaches.
Tim is an amazing professor! He's really smart and clever and is very patient if you go to him with direct questions. He assumes every student in his class is smart and knows what they are doing, so he is happy to help those who ask for it. Very interesting and fun professor, highly recommend.
Frenzel cares about how you understand the material, he tends to go fast through lectures and it can be hard to keep up. His homework assignments are good for test review and this class is practical if you are looking to get better at excel. This class itself is a difficult one, lots of work and practice, but Frenzel wants the best.
Frenzel is one of the most supportive professors I have ever had at Chapman. This class can be challenging and requires you to push yourself. If you have questions, I cannot stress enough how helpful Frenzel is. He may seem intimidating at first with his crazy good excel skills, but he is more than willing to go the extra mile for any student.
Professor Frenzel is a genius when it comes to analytics. He's a great professor and really cares to see his students be successful. This class is very hard, but if you put in the work you will learn a lot and really enjoy the class.
Business Analytics is a difficult class and many will say Frenzel makes it even harder, but he is a professor like no other. You will learn so much from him and will come to appreciate it so much. He is so knowledgeable and cares a lot for his students. Put in the work, review your work, attend his sessions and class, and you will be rewarded so.
This was literally the hardest class I've ever taken... I would spend DAYS on assignments and FAIL. I never finished a single one of his tests and would have to guess on about 50% of the exam HAH. I took the class pass/no pass and honestly don't know how I passed. Take this class very seriously, or else you're screwed. Good luck.
One of the most rewarding classes - it's challenging but you end up leaving the class with valuable knowledge in excel. There is room for growth, I got a C in one of my midterms and managed to earn an A-, so don't let a bad grade let you down. Focus on asgns , do the practice sheets and participate to do well. He also curves which is very helpful
Timmy is a goof. Honestly, great guy. Really pushes critical thinking and individual growth. Communicate with him and classmates. Ask questions and learn actively. If you don't take time to practice on your own you won't succeed. He is very knowledgeable and expects a lot, so sometimes he does fast. Ask questions and tell him if hes going off topic
Rude guy and exams are too demanding. The time frame is not enough to thoroughly do well on the test. The material is not covered enough in class. You better be a whiz
This is an analytics class that is data heavy. Might be overwhelming at first but stick with him and you will learn important ways to interpret the data. Gives you the necessary tools to learn but onus on the student to put in the work and practice to get familiar with the tools. Knows how to open your mind to critical thinking. Ready to help.
Guy makes his class unnecessarily hard, he doesnt realize his brain functions differently then 99 percent of us regular people. He knows excel to the point where its not even useful. He doesnt teach anything so be prepared to teach yourself everything. Just talks and clicks his mouse really fast on camera. Terrible professor. Stay away.
I dont even know why hes a teacher and how Chapman hired him. He belongs in a tech company where he doesnt talk to anyone and just does his own craft hard excel work. I asked a data analysis that works in the field with help on an assignment and he couldnt even figure it out. Do better professor. Make the students lives easier not impossible.
Frenzel will be one of the hardest teachers you will take at Chapman; however, if you put in the effort you will learn a lot. He offers study sessions throughout the semester that are very useful. If you take the time to invest in this class you will get so much out of it. He doesn't make it easy but is willing to explain more if you ask.
HARDEST professor ever. I usually am able to finish tests no matter what, but for his tests, I couldn't finish at all. He's a decent professor but he expects you to know basic excel skills that you need to know for his tests. He doesn't teach those basic skills which is probably why I struggled. The final exam was IMPOSSIBLE.
He doesn't really teach you anything. Even if you go to every single class you still learn nothing. The content isn't that difficult to grasp, but he always tries to make it seem more difficult than it actually is. He never gives any personal feedback. Tests are curved a lot so you will probably still do well in the class.
Professor Frenzel is a horrible professor. He can not teach and explains concepts like we already know what he's talking about. He assumes you already are a pro at excel coming into the class and does not teach you at all how to use it. The exams are extremely hard and I had to teach myself everything in this class. Dont take this professor trust..
Received my midterm grade yesterday. The exams are tough but he curves them based on our peers. I think that is fair! High expectations but (or because) he cares. His office hours are very helpful
Professor Frenzel is by far the most challenging but also the best data science teacher I have seen at Chapman. He might be tough on his exams but he gives the whole class plenty of opportunity to earn extra credits because he wants that we can learn from our failure. Have a growth mindset and you will succeed!
Professor Frenzel is easily the best professor I've had. His class is no easy A, but if you pay attention, work hard, and ask him questions when you are confused, You're already on the way to a good grade. His office hours are extremely helpful, and he makes a genuine effort to know every student. You are guaranteed to learn a lot from his classes.
Worst professor Ive ever had by a long shot. Doesnt teach what so ever. He thinks hes running a company and not a classroom. Hasnt taught me one thing this whole semester. I have had to go to YouTube to even have a chance of excelling in his class. Dont know what these other students are talking about.
I have learned more from Prof Frenzel than any other prof during my Chapman career. People marking down on him are those that don't execute the course the way its supposed to be, which is clearly outlined. He has a set formula for how to succeed in the course and if you follow it and do your work, you'll be fine. Tests are curved a lot but hard.
Hardest class I've ever taken. Not cuz of content, but cuz of Frenzel. As an A student, I disagree with all of these reviews praising him. He treats you like an employee, and it's humiliating to say something wrong in class. He doesn't teach, I had to watch hours of Excel videos on YouTube. Never finished a test. They're made so you can't finish.
Easily the worst professor I've ever had, came into this class not knowing excel and he didn't do much to teach it to us. Don't take this guy he really thinks he is some sort of Harvard Professor and won't teach you anything but expects you to teach yourself using youtube and google.
Even as an excel savvy person, i was completed blind sighted by all the assignments/exams. Wish the professor was more caring
Worst professor I've ever had. He wasn't considerate of students & our schedules, always assigning things last minute, expecting us to get it done with limited time. I learned nothing & taught myself from Youtube. He expects you to be an Excel pro & teaches no foundation. Made this the most stressful semester on top of a pandemic. Don't take him!
This is a PSA: this class does not need to be as hard as it is but he makes it impossible. Take any other professor for mgsc220 and you will have a much better experience and you wont get your gpa trashed. No matter how hard you study it is all luck for doing well on exam curves
Frenzel's class is far from easy. The first few weeks were rough, but I learned a LOT through this class. I came in with little Excel experience & came out with incredible Excel confidence. You HAVE to work for it. Frenzel is a good guy & I encourage students to schedule office hours with him. I'm SO proud of myself for doing well in his class! :)
Hes the worst professor any student will take. He doesnt teach anything at all. When I say anything I mean he doesnt even attempt to teach students the material. Instead he assigns YouTube videos that were recorded by other people. Then after you watch the YouTube video and understand hell test you on something completely different. Sad
If you're about to take MGSC 220 with Frenzel, just be prepared for it to be your hardest class. It's a hyperinflation of "if you want an A, you have to earn the A". I didn't do good in this course bc of COVID and bc I didn't pay enough attention. If you at least try hard, participate, and listen, you are putting yourself in a good position here.
Professor Frenzel is not a good professor if you want to learn something. He spent a great deal of tkme explaining to the class that he likes to be concise. Moreover, he makes students pay for a platform he designed. Lastly, his exams are difficult, to the point that a large portion of the class was unaware of how to solve the problems presented.
Professor Tim does not teaches and does not answer questions if we are having troubles in a assignment. He expects you to work on assignments that he did not teach. It was the worst Professor i had at Chapman University. Do not take his class
Read the readings, do the work, don't take the red markings personally and when you reflect back on your college experience, this class will stand out as one of the best.
Extremely hard.
I learned a lot through this class. Professor Tim really knows his stuff and is really helpful. Very enjoyable and definitely would take a class from him again.
Took his class last Spring, very effective professor who makes you work for your grade. He helped me with a project at work this year. Fantastic guy!
I learned a lot through this class. I worked hard for my grade and it was really worth it because it gave me confidence and time to test my skills and get it checked by someone who is really knowledgeable on the topics. Professor Frenzel was really helpful and approachable whenever I needed help. Definitely a must take class.
He is not a bad guy by any means, and I did enjoy his class. HOWEVER, he disappeared for nearly three weeks in the middle of the term and is not flexible if you need to make up assignments. Lacks guidance, and a lot of the class is self-taught, I would've loved to have him around an entire semester, but he disappeared, as I said.
It's true that my analytics class with Tim has been challenging, but I've learned so much from him. He has a deep understanding of the subject and consistently goes above and beyond to ensure that we fully comprehend the material. Even though it's a tough class, I highly recommend taking a class with him if you have the opportunity.
Prof Frenzel always pushes us to do our best and never lets us slack off. He's even helped some of us get our work published, which is super cool. He's always there to support us in our academic and professional goals.
I highly recommend him. He is an excellent teacher who emphasizes student growth and has a strong finance background. Tim puts a lot of effort into helping students grasp the material and incorporates real-world experience into his lessons.
Tim's class is challenging but there are plenty of extra credit opportunities to catch up if you are worried about a good grade. One of the best things about his class was the real life projects we worked on. These were really cool and gave us the chance to apply what we were learning to real-world situations.
Frenzel has been a fantastic Professor! His real life experience as an investment manager has been especially helpful in bringing practical examples to the classroom. He is strict but this helps create a focused learning environment and pushes us to do our best. I highly recommend going to office hours to ask him questions!
Thanks for a great class, Tim. I learned a lot in R and Tableau and feel much more confident in my data analysis skills. Your teaching style was clear and you were always available to answer questions. Your enthusiasm for the material was appreciated ;)
Timothy is a great professor, his class was well-structured, easy to follow and he curved all exams. I highly recommend him, he genuinely cares about his students.
I highly recommend Professor Frenzel. His project-based approach to learning has helped me to improve my skills in R and Excel. I learned a lot in his class, and I can actually apply what I learned on my job!
Tim knows how to balance the seriousness of the subject with a lighthearted approach, making learning a breeze but also tough sometimes. He emphasized the importance of critical thinking and teaches the latest technology that is actually used in the real world, which made the course both practical and engaging.
Professor Frenzel has a great teaching style and made data analytics an interesting and enjoyable course for me. I really appreciate his passion for the subject and his dedication to our success. I feel well-prepared for my future career in business analytics thanks to him.
Just wanted to give a shoutout to Timothy! He's the man! He helped me get my first article published last summer and his expertise in finance is top notch. He's a fantastic teacher and always makes class fun. Highly recommend taking a course with him!
His expertise in R programming was exceptional and his enthusiasm was contagious. He motivated me to learn more! Collaborating on an article with him and others about data visualization using R was a highlight of the course.
He knows his stuff, and he explains things in a way that's easy to understand. Plus, the way he teaches SQL, R, and Excel is super practical and hands-on. If you're looking to level up your data analysis game, his class is the way to go!
Prof Frenzel's applied ML focus was approachable, engaging, and relevant. His hands-on projects in social media and real estate made the subject matter exciting.
just save yourself and don't take it unless you're already a god at every software program under the sun. he doesn't give instructions on the assignments and he is very harsh on grading. if you're like me and data analytics isn't a strong suit of yours, you're probably going to fail this class like me and my friends are about to (it's finals rn)
The class isn't a walk in the park, but his clear instructions and helpful resources on the class site make it manageable. Do not skip his office hours - they are incredibly beneficial. Overall, if you're willing to work, Frenzel is your guy for Analytics!
I thoroughly enjoyed Prof. Frenzel's Real Estate Analytics class. He's incredibly knowledgeable, conveys complex topics with ease, and is approachable outside of class. Be prepared to work hard, but it's absolutely worth it!
Took Frenzel's course in Fall 2022. Frenzel might come off as a bit strict, but trust me, he's got your best interest at heart. The course isn't easy but he ensures you grasp every concept. He's available for extra help and even conducts AI workshops on the side if you are interested.
Dr. Frenzel isn't your average prof; he's an industry guru in finance. His assignments are challenging but truly prepare you for real-world scenarios. He pushed me hard, and I'm grateful for that.
His expectations are high, but so is his level of support. He made my journey to publication possible.
Tim Frenzel a skilled educator who encourages critical thinking and class discussions. His use of real-world examples & case studies brings the subject matter to life (Airbnb case was very cool!). Assignments can be time-consuming but are thoroughly reviewed in class.
His teaching pushes you to think critically and data driven. The opportunity to work with him on a research paper post-class has been incredibly rewarding. Highly recommended!!
Prof. Frenzel's machine learning class wasn't easy but was definitely worth it. He holds you to high standards, but he's also very supportive. He even offers opportunities to continue research with him.
Skip if you can. No criteria for grading, and no in-class teaching of Excel skills needed for assignments. Tells you to read the book to learn it, FYI it's not in the book/blog. Doesn't teach you the answers, forces his own students to teach us in class even though they're wrong most of the time. Assignments every week, and very test heavy. Boo.
Professor Frenzel isn't just about theory, he's about building real-world models. The assignments were challenging but rewarding, and we actually used what we learned to analyze venture capital and loan portfolios. I walked out of this class feeling confident I could tackle real ML problems.
Timothy 310 machine learning course wasn't easy but was definitely worth it. He pushes you to think critically and data driven, he's about building real-world models. His hands-on R projects in venture capital and real estate made the subject matter exciting. Fun games in class but the applied project at the end is a challenge!
Professor Frenzel is undoubtedly knowledgeable, but his class pace was quite fast. It's a great course for those who have a background in the statistics, but beginners might find it challenging. He's very supportive and always available for extra help. Go to his office hours!!
I struggled initially in Prof. Frenzel's course because of the fast pace, but his willingness to help outside of class made a huge difference. He pushes his students to think critically and apply what they've learned in practical scenarios. Lot's of coding in R!! He helps you with your project portfolio!
Professor Frenzel was initially intimidating but is a great professor and I feel I learned so much in one semester. 220 was a fully project-based class with weekly reading quizzes for a few weeks in the middle of the semester. I recommend participating as much as possible, especially the first few weeks, get on his good side right at the start!
Took Operations Management with Professor Frenzel last year. He expects active participation and critical thinking. Group projects were very useful for practical learning. He's very supportive and available for extra help. Great for anyone looking to deepen their understanding in the analytics side of Ops. Cool guest speakers!
If you are interested in data analytics/ai tim is the way to go. If data isn't an area of interest, go with another prof. His expectations are high and hes intense, but he is the most supportive prof ive ever had and is so fun to talk to outside of class. He values participation at 25%, and is focused on giving you real world experience
avoid this class at all costs unless you want to be stressed out and anxious every minute of every day. projects worth 0.4% of the final grade take about 8 hours to complete. no time to live life and do well in any other classes. good luck.
I like Professor Frenzel as a person but his teaching style and grading are awful. His weekly assignments are torturous. You have to spend 8+ hours on each project weekly and he doesn't tell you where you went wrong so you just wasted your time for a C- without knowing exactly why you messed up. Don't take this class unless you want to struggle!!
Fine class but hard assignments and tough grader. If you do not participate and try on the assignments you will not do well. The test is like the assignment you just dont have a lot of time to finish.
Incredible professor and person. A great resource if you get to know Frenzel personally. If you are not experienced in excel, get good at it before taking this class. Weekly assignments which take around 2-9 hours depending on skill level (2 if very skilled at excel, 9 if beginner). Overall, I learned more from frenzel than any other professor.
terrible teacher. Did not accommodate people with extra time, didn't make time to meet with students outside of class (you have to give him 2 weeks notice to set up any office hours). Did nothing to help if you were struggling and expects you to learn by watching his videos outside of class that are just as unhelpful. Super harsh grader too.
He's a nice person and pretty funny, but you cannot expect to take this class with a heavy course load. He expects you to know everything about Excel and assigns assignments that take 8-10 hours per weekend. I wouldn't recommend this class unless you're already pretty advanced and comfortable with Excel.
Difficult grader.
Tims grading, teaching style, and expectations of students make the course extremely challenging. He makes the basics difficult to understand by over-complicating assignments with heavy data amounts. Unless you are willing to raise your hand and speak 35 times throughout the semester, do not expect anything above a C in participation.
I highly recommend Professor Frenzel for anyone serious about learning data analytics. His high standards push students to excel, and his support outside of class is exceptional.
Tim's courses are tough but worthwhile! He provides detailed feedback if you go to his office hours. His case studies are complex sometimes but better than most other professors here, who just give you multiple-choice tests all day.
I loved how the simulations added an element of fun to the otherwise rigorous curriculum. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in the field of data in operations and project management.
If you're interested in the subject, Frenzel is the best teacher you can have. If you're just taking the class to get rid of a GE you're gonna have a rough time
Enjoyed how he applies the topics in class to real world problems. Super encouraging and collaborative environment with students from different backgrounds of Finance and Data Science. Professor was very helpful inside and outside of class, emphasizes you to step out of your comfort zone and create actual value with class projects. Highly recommend
I took two classes with Professor Frenzel (he teaches mostly quantitative courses). I really enjoyed his real estate data science course. He made the topic seem less intimidating and inspired my interest in i! Read his articles and you will be okay on the quizzes, the projects and case studies take time and can be challenging at times.

I had Frenzel for 496 and it was my favorite class ever. It gave me a new career path I intend to go down, and I learned enough to be qualified for an internship in the field right after the semester. If you really want to learn and dedicate time to a class where that will be rewarded, I cant recommend this enough. It's challenging, but rewarding.
He teaches mostly with real-world case studies and his articles. He gives great lectures, but they can be fast at times! Make sure you communicate with him frequently!!
i loved frenzel! he values participation a lot so make sure if you're not speaking up in class, GO TO OFFICE HOURS! he gave me some awesome opportunities by going to those and he's super helpful! there are group projects at first and he takes a while to grade things so ask him for advice about the next assignment instead of waiting for feedback.
I really liked Professor Frenzel's approach in MGSC 346. He taught practical skills in analytics & project management- the few Excel exercises were a great way to apply what we learned. Would definitely recommend him!
I wasn't expecting guest speakers to be so interesting, but they really were! They gave us a lot of real-world context with the case study. Funny professor for sure! The Lego game was my highlight ;)
Professor Frenzel is a knowledgeable and cool professor. He has extensive experience within the financial industry and often brings in other experts to discuss how class material can be applied to the real world. He expects a lot from his students but will give them the knowledge needed to meet expectations and succeed in the class.
Good guy, but the difficulty did not match the course level. He expects a lot out of us-more than should be for an intro level g.e. class. If you're just taking this to knock out the g.e. requirement, take another professor's class.
Frenzel is my favorite professor so far at Chapman. This is my second class with him, and the only thing I regret is not taking him for all of my Analytics minor classes. It is NOT a free A. You will need to work hard. He makes himself available at any time of the day or night (I've messaged him at 2 am). The key is to openly communicate with him.
Frenzel's class is challenging but rewarding. His high standards push you to excel, and resources like Unstuck study complement the course material well. Brush up on Excel before diving in.
Insane amount of work, extremely high expectations, tough grader and does not actually teach the material. The hardest class I had in my four years at chapman. The amount of students that went to talk with the Dean about him is very concerning.
Great professor and teaches super useful things, the thing I learned from his class actually helped me so much to get my first job. this is a hard class but if you communicate with him during/after class, then your life will be so much easier, and participation in class can effect your grade, only showing up in class is not enough.
Took MGSC410 with Tim last semester. The guy knows his stuff (his industry experience SHOWS). His office hours were a life saver for the final project, he once spent 45 mins helping me debugging my AWS app. Warning: The three projects are NO JOKE (my team pulled two all-nighters), but you'll learn more than any course at CHapman!
I'm switching to DS because of him. He drew a lot of parallels between his hedge fund experience and applied ML, which I really enjoyed as someone who wants to go into fintech. His whiteboard sessions can be tough at times, but he graded generously. He gave extra credit for writing debugging help for other students. Lots of real-world projects.
Lectures are detailed and often cover complex concepts, so keeping up with the reading and homework is essential. Assignments can be time-consuming, but it really helps reinforce the material. Overall, a demanding class, but worth it if you stay on top of the work and participate actively.
Super heavy. Expect students to work hard as if it's gonna be your career. Not applicable for everyone, especially ones that don't know excel; I've seen people in my class got lost really fast and end up not learning anything bc it's too demanding. Projects only helps you learn after you learn a ton of things yourself. Surely traumatized me
