Very good teacher. Loved his class.
It was a easy class. We only had three papers.
Very nice.I learned that my opinion counts and its okay for me to express(respectfully,no matter what others believe.Only three papers to write, and if you don't wait until last minute to write them(do the steps he gives you)it won't be hard to get an A. Great teacher!
Great teacher. Likes discussion and class is more fun if you participate. Participate and do what he says for the papers and get an A.
FUN,FUN,and more FUN! Discussions in class are cool. he is very open minded so thats what made it fun. He is cool too.
Very easy , got a B ,but I didn't learn anything ,3 papers that's all.
Professor Gilmore is a very helpful and understanding teacher. I took him for Sat. classes and the open discussions were great. I recommend everyone to take his class. He's also very handsome and has a gorgeous smile. Thanks Professor Gilmore! ~AM~
he was very interesting teacher who had very good discussion going about the books we read even though they can sometime be very boring and misunderstood but over all interesting class i got a B and im not a very good writer so if u want an easy grade take him but he is not teaching at fccj right now he is at unf
GILMORE,TIMOTHY, he was cool, young, and down to earth. He loves class discussion and encourages class participation. I got a C, but it was my fault, not his. He is a fair instructor, just make sure you follow his intructions properly, lol. Class discussions was either boring or very interesting. Even though I got a C, I liked him!
Professor Gilmore is a great teacher. Everyday you'll have a discussion of what you read, or what you are going to write about. I don't really like English but he makes it interesting. He relates to his students and respects their opinion. I would definetly recommend taking him if you are looking for an easy grade.
you know I'm not exactly sure how to rate him because he was so laid back and easy going but yet I can honestly say I had no idea 99.9% of the time what he was talking about. He does respect your opion but.. if you like english and all that stuff I would say this is the class for you but not me.he's not bad it's just not for me.
I love English but I recieved a C although I dont feel that I deserve it. I'm use to making A's in English. He's an extremely cool and helpful professor. I made two C's in the entire class. The essays he assigns are enjoyable. I dont really know what to say to help you get a good grade because I really have NO clue!!!
Dr. Tim Gilmore is one of the best professors i've ever had. Excellent teacher. Only thing you need to do to be successful is show up everyday and pay attention. He has a very out of the box style of teaching. I enjoyed the mans class, and i learned a lot about not just english but all kinds of topics. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Down to earth, low stress class. Not a lot of instruction when it came to papers. Group discussions and journals were part of your grade and made the class easy and fun. Only three papers, but on the same subject. Overall I enjoyed the class and would recommend Professor Gilmore to others who are required to take eng 1102.
Prof. Gilmore is one of my favorite teachers ever! His style is a little.. different.. but once you get past his dark side he's a very cool guy. Easy-going, helpful, low work-load. Class discussions every day which are fun and thoughtful. Papers (3) were interesting and allowed your own creativity. LOVED THIS CLASS.
DR. GILMORE is one of my favorite teachers. He grades hard on essays but ensures everything is crystal clear on what he expects. attendance is hi to him. great professor! take his class if you want to pass
Very good professor. Would definitely recommend.
I think Professor Gilmore is a very fair professor. If you are looking for a good professor for English, I would recommend Professor Gilmore.
First of all, I received a B+ so I am not a disgruntled student who made a bad grade. Bottom line, I learned absolutely nothing. The 2 books we read for the class were interesting, but had no relevance to the class. I didn't learn anything new about writing and he did not explain he required papers well enough. Most of the class felt the same way.
What a nice guy. Prof Gilmore was understanding and kind. All he really wants is for you to show up to class prepared to share your ideas and thoughts. He's very much into students expressing their opinions. Please treat him with respect and dont take this kind of Prof for granted. He really cares. A+
Patient, fun, open minded dude. A good teacher, but expects a lot form his students.
cool, he explains things and will give more than one view to any situation, to make you think.
This class was pretty hard. He doesn't just give out A's and the papers were hard. But he is a cool guy, the class discussions are pretty interesting, and this class made me very interested in helping child soldiers since we read a book on them. He's also very helpful if you have any questions.
Dr. Gilmore is a pretty cool dude. Class discussions were good and I learned a lot. If you're looking for an easy "A" look elsewhere, Dr. G don't give out "As". Book and attendance are necessary. Essays are no joke, they are seriously hard. His syllabus is very vague but he requires you to be very specific in your writing. Overall two thumbs up!
Loved the class discussions. Reading and the assignments are a must. Essays are kind of hard but if you ask he will help you out a lot. I really loved his class and am taking his lit one too.
I thouroughly enjoyed this professor's class!!! He makes you think, and makes it interesting!!! Thanks Dr. Gilmore!!
Ive taken him for Enc 1102 Writing ab Non-Fiction prose and Lit2930 Special Topics in Literature. I'd take him for every English class if I could! He's understanding, clear, and cares about his work. Attendance is mandatory: you can only miss 4 classes. Lots of reading, grades are mainly just papers and one easy journal. My favorite prof!
You will do fine if you can get through reading the chapters and participate in class.
Dr. Gilmore was really great and he's very clear about what he wants from you. You have to read the books and you have to have an opinion once in awhile. There is no right answers for discussions, only opinions and that's part of your grade. You have to write a couple papers but he is extremely clear in what he wants and will help. Great Teacher.
This class was awsome. The prof. was very smart and he really helps you get involved with the class discussions. I enjoyed this class very much. this class was very interesting. I'd recommend Prof. Gilmore to anyone. Class participation is a must in order to pass. Fun class.
I do not understand how this professor received such high ratings. He was not clear on what he wanted from your papers and then did not grade the papers fair. He was very hard, and never posted grades to blackboard. I will not take him again and do not recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Gilmore is a good teacher and his class requires you to think outside the box. Although I was surprised I got a C, I did somewhat enjoy his class. There is A LOT of reading so make sure you like to read before you take him. One thing that really bugged me about him is that he is a tough grader. You can find a better professor elsewhere.
Dr. Gilmore is an excellent teacher. His class makes you think, and there is alot of open ended discussion, and alot of reading. He is a great teacher, and a very smart man. I took him for ENC 1101 AND Lit 2000, if you love to read, be SURE to take this class!
Tough grader, but fair. Willing to give a second chance on assignments
Professor Gilmore is very passionate about the topics he teaches and encourages his students to learn and participate in class discussion, but more than that, he is very understanding. When I exceeded my 4 absence limit because of life circumstances, he agreed immediately to give me an 'I' for the course. Great guy!
I took him for Ghost Stories. I needed an extra curricular. I had more fun then I thought I would. He does require papers, but is fair about grading. If you talk to him he will help you out.
astoundingly astonishingly astute
Fair. Clear. Nice guy.
I would say, mind-expanding.
Dr. Gilmore was kind. He cares a lot about students expressing their opinions. It's all about respect with him. He passionately cares.
He's a very passionate professor and will help you if you ask for it. As long as you participate in the class discussions and read what you are supposed to, the class isn't too hard. He's very understanding and is a genuinely nice guy. I'd recommend him!
Great teacher had alot of fun. read the book, then have class discussions the whole time. pretty easy.
Not the professor to take if you want an easy A. Dr. Gilmore is VERY interested and knowledgable in what he teaches. He expects his students to be on time, have done the reading, and participate in the discussion every class. Grades are based on reading journals, participation, papers, one test and one project. Will definitely take him for LIT2000.
He is very passionate about reading. Do not take him though, he does not prepare you well for assignments and then grades you very harshly. You basically have to teach yourself everything, but it is unclear what exactly you need to be learning. Fun discussions in the class, but discussing the books only seems to be a fragment of your grade :(
I took Professor Gilmore's online class my very first semester (Summer 2010) at FSCJ. I found his course easy to understand and his instructions clear. As long as you read your syllabus and give your papers thought and preparation, you will be fine.
Professor Gilmore's class was really great! I loved to learn the material cuz he could explain it easily. BUT u hav to hav done the reading to pass and put passion into ur papers, other than this, I would recommend this class to Everyone!
If you do not like reading and essay, do not take Him. He is an excellent smart Prof. Books to be read: One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest,Doll house,Orchard,We always live in the Castle. Watch 2 movies. Final Paper is 6 pages. His grading is not clear. Participate in the discussion. Do your journal and dictionary early. Not an easy class,.
Dont do it! Trust me, youre going to work your butt off and receive a C and ruin your GPA. Pick a different professor.
(Legend Tripping) Very high-level, abstract class, lots of in-depth reading. Classes are discussion-based, so attendance isn't mandatory, but it is necessary. His grading seems more style-based than simply skill- or content-based. If reading and writing aren't your strong suits, don't expect to do well.
He was responsive to questions via email, graded fairly, and provided feedback. Only concern was no updates/communication on Blackboard from him After Apr 1st. Just kind of disappeared. Class was easy for me so no problems, students struggling may have needed something during that last crucial month though.
Wonderful professor. You read a few short books and a Children's book, watch a few movies and have a discussion on whatever chapter you had to read. He's understanding as well, as long as you show up to class on time and are willing to read a chapter for class. I would definitely take his class again. The finals a super easy research assignment.
Probably one of the best classes I have ever taken. I have taken his Ghost Stories segment and intend to take legend tripping next semester. 3 papers, wants you to be insightful, so if you're someone who just does the basics this isn't the class for you. Discussion based, and very interesting! He makes you want to come to class.
Not an easy class, it is very tedious work. I work my butt off and get C's on quizzes and the close reading. Hes very unclear on what he wants from you and when you ask him to explain he just repeats the same thing over again. However I will say he is passionate about literature. Discussion based class. If you're shy oh well. The books are sucky
Dr.Gilmore is the best teacher ever. The class isn't cake walk but he is so nice, understanding, flexible, funny, and interesting. He is a great person and a great professor and I would recommend him to everyone. A++++
He's very nice and loves what he's doing. However, he's not very clear on assignments. He kind of leaves it up in the air what he wants your papers to be about. I LOVE essays and these were confusing. He has 3 papers, journals and discussions each class. It was a good class, I just wish he would have been more specific for the papers.
dont do it hes really hard makes you read all kinde of books and no matter how hard u work ur gonna get C if ur lucky
Dr. Gilmores class makes you think. Theres also a pretty heavy reading load. But if you're up for it, the class is an amazing experience.
Always there to help but holds high standards. Great teacher though would definitely take one of his classes again.
I'm just gonna be straight up. Gilmore is not an easy A. You got to read and write all this stuff and plus he wants you to know grammer.
Great class! I had him for legend tripping. Purely discussion based class. You answer a journal every class on what you previously read. Have to read four books and watch two movies. The books are interesting and I didn't mind reading them. Easy to talk to and will explain anything if you ask!
Not an easy class, however Profess Gilmore is more than willing to work with you if you ask. Communication is the key to this class. If you explain where you are struggling he will work with you. Also I didn't submit a paper on time and he allowed me to turn it in late without taking any points off. Highly recomend class.
Prof. Gilmore was by far my favorite professor while attending FSCJ. The passion he has for literature shines through in his teaching and if you have even a small interest in the subject, he's going to find a way to ignite it! I took him again the year after for LIT2930 because I missed his teaching so much. His class isn't easy but it's worth it!
Professor Gilmore was a great teacher. Very passionate about literature. Fun, discussion based class. Not exactly an easy course, but he responds to emails in a timely manner and is quite helpful. I learned a lot. I would absolutely take him again.
I really enjoyed his class. We read 2 books and he tries to choose books most people will enjoy. We spent most classes discussing the book and participation is big. He loves his job and really had fun. We did a few writing assignments. Taking another of his classes next semester.
Professor Gilmore believes in his students. Yes, you will have to work in this class, but I would recommend him to anyone who has struggled with writing in the past. There isn't tooo many assignments, but there is a lot of reading. Class discussions are awesome also, but if you're socially awkward you do need to be prepared to participate anyways.
Dr Gilmore is amazing! Yes you read two books, compile a personal dictionary, have 4 assignments and a 8page final paper, but your in college. I enjoyed the books, even though they weren't my taste. If you attend class and follow the syllabus, you'll be fine. I found this class extremely fun and learned how to compose proper essays
I enjoyed his class because I learned a lot from him. He would try his best to make you enjoy the class! Take him! Won't regret! Got an A
hes a pretty good teacher, big on grammar and mechanics so if you aren't good at it don't take him. he will point out every mistake with your papers. if you ask for help he will help, not big on extra credit. we read 3 books, he try to choose ones we would enjoy, but honestly they were alright. expect writing papers, at least 4.
If you enjoy literature, even a tad, take Gilmore. His passion shines through him as he teaches. I'm a biochemistry graduate and yet to this day he's my favorite professor. It won't be easy but nothing work doing is.
He is a decent teacher. English is not my thing and he made it so i could get though it.
Expect to stress yourself out over trivial things. He's nice and easy to get along with though!
Must show up to class, you read 3 books, all boring. Only one major paper, at the end of semester. In class, usually only discussions. I participated more than 90% of the class and got a 50/60, so participate as much as possible. Other than that pretty easy i guess.
Gilmore is very passionate. We read about slavery and locked-in syndrom. He's tough but he's fair. He's hardest on students that don't pull their weight.
Gilmore is an awesome professor, probably my favorite. I took his class hybrid so attendance was necessary. We do a lot of in class discussing, which keeps the class alive & interesting. He assigns cool writing assignments, and you'll read 3 really good books. Not many assignments so its important to do well on all of them. All in all hes great.
Not helpful at all; doesn't respond to classmates. Assignments related to his own blog type site; not learning anything.
gilmer is a hard perfessor. u fell like some stuff could mabye be inneresting but dont make sense
Beware
This is an English class, so you will have to read books. The readings are not terribly wrong, and they are entertaining. The professor is very passionate about literature, and he cares that you become interested as well. READ THE BOOKS! PARTICIPATE IN DISCUSSION! You should have an A if you progress in your writing, do your best, and attend class.
If you need help, he'll help you. If you dont put much in, you wont get as much out. He's passionate and wants you to be too.
He makes the class go by fast! A lot of group discussions. Takes a while for him to respond to emails! Read a total of 3 books; most are interesting. Gives some slack. Most of the classes are just discussions. Not much homework. I would take him again for sure! Best teacher I have had yet! No textbook, only the books you read.
I thought his class was pretty interesting. He teaches writing and he's a writer, so he knows what he's doing. Has a pretty cool website too where he writes about strnage places and old buildings. He has high standards.
Took one test the entire semester. Read a total of three books. Assigned two papers. And a few assignments here and there. Overall, this class was enjoyable and participation matters in the class discussions because it adds to your grade at the end of the semester. Do great on all assignments because they are few, but fun class and professor.
The bulk was reading books and doing summaries and essays. Pretty easy and the books are pretty good.
Professor Gilmore is a great Professor, you read about 5 books and every class day you do a journal entry about the pages you read for homework (At most, 50 pages). After journal entries you get opportunity to get extra credit from your readings as well. You have a class discussion about the book and upcoming assessments. Would recommend!
DO NOT take this class if u want an average reading class. Make sure u complete personal dict., two in-class essays, annotated bib, research paper, daily journal, final paper, & 7 books. I was lucky to scrape by with a a high grade, only because I dedicated my free time to this class. He's fair, knowledgeable, n tough. READ SYLLABUS B4 COMMITTING
I adored Dr. Gilmore! He always gave great academic advice and when it came to grading your work and written papers, he wasn't "tough" like some have said on here. I would say it was very fair and helpful. Be prepared to read A LOT and participate in discussion. I loved the discussions we had in class, it makes time go by fast and it's enjoyable.
Difficult, yes. People who won't put in the work will moan about it. He gives what he gets. I put in a lot and I got a lot.
The reading and viewing topics were tough to digest, which at some point in my life I'm sure that I will realize that I'm better for having had to face them. As far as the rest goes, it was a standard online class. I believe that I got what I paid for and am in no way dissatisfied. You earn according to your effort; what's not fair about that?
All of our classes with this teacher were interesting. He loves to have the class engage in discussions of what we just read. He's open to hear everyone's different opinions. He doesn't judge them even if he doesn't agree with it. We read a lot of his own works and a lot of works pertaining to Jacksonville. He grades hard.
Gilmore is a nice professor, tough grader, you cant BS your way in this class. AMOUNT OF WORK PUT IN ASSIGNMENT GRADE DESERVED. I liked Gilmore he is laid back, love his books and play "Stalking Ottis toole" I found it interesting. His handwriting is like a 2nd grader but ask him what he meant he'll tell you. I'd recommend him.
He's tough but he's fair.
His way of lecture was enthralling and kept my attention. I enjoyed researching a local place and writing about it.
His class ain't easy. You will read a lot. You'll work hard. But he treats you with respect and the discussions are interesting.
Tough but fair grader. Turn in quality work on time and you will pass.
Lots of work but makes it fun. Mostly.
I am a full-time working mother taking multiple classes per semester. The workload was almost impossible to keep up with. You are forced to buy his personal book. I got 0 feedback on my assignments leaving me no way of knowing what I need to fix. He is a wonderful writer, terrible teacher. I may have earned an A if I had gotten grades and advice.
I took his class for ENC 1102 and HUM 2020. I believe he is perfect for those that like to be introduced to reading they are unfamiliar with. The main focal point with him is to always be prepared and to do the readings. You will read, and you will do writings on said readings.
This guy cares a lot. I really appreciated that he cares as much as he does.
Currently taking professor Gilmore for Eng 1102 highbrid course. He is a very tough grader and relies heavily on class disscussions. He does not require a text book but instead 5 books we need to read, one of which being his own book. Hes a nice person but Ive struggled through his class the whole semester. Will not be taking his classes again.
I took Dr. Gilmore for 1102 and felt both challenged and respected. He gives grammar instruction but also assigns challenging things to read. I came by his office hours several times during the course to see guidance and he was always a nice guy. Learned a lot.
He's a really cool and laid back guy but his work is not easy. Prepare to spend hours studying online to write your papers. Tough grader but decent extra credit. If you like to be challenged in English I recommend going to his class. I had fun! He strives to make it fun for everyone but he sure does make you work hard if you want an A. (B12Class)
Prof Gilmore is a genuinely good person. He was very understanding with problems I was encountering in my personal life that ultimately affected my completion of his course. Replies quickly to emails and is very flexible and always seemed happy to help. There is A LOT of reading in his course, I would say above average. Writing load was average.
Cool guy, lots of work. Studied the Bill of Rights, which I never had a prof do before. You will have to study a lot. Givex pretty good extra credit. I think it's a worthwhile class.
I found that Professor Gilmore's class challenged me but was not too difficult as long as I kept up with things. We read some small book and studied the Constitution. If I told him I needed some help, he was thre for me. He has standards but I thought his expectations seemed about rright.
Its my opinnin that we didn't relly do certain things in this class. I had thot we woud.
Participate. Show you care. He's passionate about history, and you will read a good bit. Corona Virus made me finish the course online, but from what I saw, he was not the best at returning graded work or giving feedback. He gave us extra credit, and he is a really nice person. He responds quickly to canvas emails. Just make sure you work hard.
Professor Timothy Gilmore was genuinely a intense grader. He would even correct e-mails if words were not spelled right . You read alot and something's that described in the readings and syllabus was difficult for me to understand. I actually had to talk to him on the phone to clarify directions on a assignment. He takes a while to grade stuff.
Professor Gilmore is by far one of the BEST instructors. He is very understanding when It comes to students' personal issues and school. He gives you an opportunity to correct errors, and resubmit assignments. As long as you communicate with him, and actually PUT FORTH THE EFFORT he will compromise. He is absolutely AMAZING!
Prof. Gilmore is very approachable and kind. Assignments have clear grading criteria, though his feedback is copy-paste. He fosters discussion between students in a very natural way. He responds to emails quickly. His class is fun, and his assignments require effort but aren't intense. A very good class, even online due to COVID. I recommend him!
Mr. Gilmore was a solid professor, however, I took him online and it took a long time to grade your work. He waited until the very last second to returned our final paper grade. I heard great things about him before so I think he just wasn't used to the online format. Overall, he was a good teacher though.
I felt he was very moved and motivated... for the first 3 or so classes and then seemed to lose interest. About 3 classes were only Q & A's and he skipped the last 2 or 3 classes completely. 50/50 on answering emails, extremely vague feedback on some of the assignments. Did motivate us to vote and understand current social issues though. Meh :/
Dr Gilmore is a good professor. His lectures are review of work already done and can get boring. Lectures are every week to two weeks. Do work and you'll pass.
Gilmore's class was not that hard. Everything was pretty clear. He gives you a lot to read but if you are good with that, it's not really a problem.
I took ENC 1102 Online 7week and was shocked at the workload. He posts the assignments each week which consisted of reading one book (50-150pgs), answering 2-3 ques for discussions in 1-2 healthy paragraphs EVERY week & grammar exercises. The final exam is a research paper. Difficult but as long as you work hard is easy; is responsive over emails!
Proffessor Gilmore does require a lot of work. He kept saying he want us to see what we are doing and why we are doing it though. Very approachable. When I reached out, he was helpful.
Best English teacher I've ever had. He's a brilliant guy & tries his best to bring out the critical thinking of his students as best as he can. Always has something interesting to say & is encouraging about his students' potential. Doesn't mind if you disagree with him as long as you can support it in the text. Take him if you care about learning!
The actual material wasn't hard, but Professor Gilmore would grade things very vaguely, and have a lot of judgment on things. Only took him because of his good reviews, dreaded having to go to his class. Wasn't a fair grader.
Professor gilmore is very Knowledegable and shares great lectures with his class. I loved that he requires particpation for engagement and makes you think on topics discussed. Great professor!
Professor Gilmore is very helpful and willing to answer questions in and out of class, and he responds to emails very quickly. He was also very nice and understanding. I would absolutely take him again.
One of the few professors that actually teaches and expects you to learn in his class. Very responsive and takes pride in his work, demonstrated in the way he handles his curriculum.
I took this professor in 2021 and when I fell ill with Delta Covid he was absolutely wonderful. Professor genuinely cared about his students being successful. I got detailed feedback and guidance. I could have easily failed this class with everything going on but I passed with A. His course was not by any means easy, however, I highly recommend!
He vaguely grades things. You can tell that when he gives you an assignment with a hint of politics, that he is very one sided on the manner. When he grades, he does not provide a real rubric and expects you to know how he wants the format. Gives everyone the same critique so you don't actually know what particular things he was docking points on.
Seemed pretty clear and straight forward to me. Not easy, but he laid out expectations and then if you met them, all was good
When I was in high school and asked teachers for help, I always got talked down to. Doctor Gilmore was one of the first teachers that actually helped me grow. He did not mind when I asked for help and he was patient.
Took more than 6 weeks to grade assignments. Expects sympathy for this, but doesn't extend the same flexibility to students. Took points off for turning in an assignment 1 day late. Waited until the last 3 days of the semester to grade three heavily-grade-influencing assignments, which tells me he either rushed or just grades harshly; no feedback.
The lectures and teachings were great and a lot of fun to actively do while learning a lot. There was a very political take as the final paper which I found weird and very biased for a teacher to assign. Also he brags about being a published author a lot which got annoying.
Professor Gilmore's class has a heavy workload, but staying organized and utilizing resources like unstuck AI can help you succeed. He's responsive and approachable, though grading can be vague at times. Overall, an engaging class if you're willing to put in the effort.
He was very nice but requires a lot of attention to detail and work. He is a slowwww grader. You're going to do fine if you do the work, but tbh he was very critical when providing feedback to work.
Endless discussion posts, slow grader, quick response time.
Professor Gilmore was a kind person, but was not my favorite professor that I've ever had. He does not go into details about assignments during lectures and expects you to know everything. He can also be condescending and loves to accuse the class of using AI. I would not recommend his class unless your major has something to do with English.
Slow grader, I recommend doing the assignments a month in advance. Get ready for accusations of AI. He will give you a bad grade if you ask for clarification. Asked me to resubmit an exam 3x without telling me what was wrong. After the 2nd attempt I sent him the study guide and asked if I should be using something else, 20 min later he put in a 0.
Incredible professor. His lectures are very interesting. It is evident that he truly cares about what he does and he wants his students to succeed. That being said, if you're not willing to put in the effort, you're not going to do well. He is always available during office hours for questions. I would take any class he teaches. Don't use AI.
He makes you do only a bunch of essays but hes a very harsh grader.
Hi, took this class for the fall semester online and failed for accusations of AI. DO NOT TAKE HIM TRUST. If you use Grammerly, trust don't him, I'm warning you please don't.
