This was a very hard class, but if you take it you will learn a lot. The exams seemed like they measured what you learned pretty well and were graded fairly. Sometimes he swears too, which is pretty funny.
Hard to understand class. No uniformity in how he grades take home easays. When I tried to fix my next easay by what I got wrong in the last, I still got it wrong when it was done the way he had asked in the last.
If you think and try, Jeske's class will really teach you a lot. Not for everyone, but one of the best profs I've had to this day.
Most knowledgeable PROFESSOR (that is correct, Ph.D.) that I have taken. Complete understanding of theory, systems, and so on. Teaches subjects to be enjoyed. Lectures are EXTREMELY HIGH QUALITY. Plus, he is a cool guy to talk to. Helping to free Yakima of ignorance, at least one student at a time.
He is a very funny teacher and you will learn a lot. I am very glad I took him.

This guy is a jackass. Not helpful. Angry. Irritating. I couldn't stand his class. Total waste of time.

Has a potty-mouth and doesn't care about it. Get your stuff in on time!!! His whole goal is to make you think more deeply than you were at the beginning of any essay. During the discussions, let others express their views, then talk open-mindedly. Make sure you talk! If he doesn't see the brain cogs turning, he won't give you a good grade.
He knows alot about what he's teaching and his lectures are interesting but if you disagree with him in your essays then you are graded unfairly.
This guy definitely is left sided and if u dont write that way, you have to be right on w/ tons of facts, lots of writing. Knows what he's talkin about... focus's on his lifestyle alot in class

Jeske's an ****. His lectures are one sided which makes it hard to properly analyze issues. He has really bad mood swings and is a self proclaimed ****. He's rude and you really have to kiss his ass to do well. Just wear UW apparel and he'll like you. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone.
The best professor I have had
Very hard course. I studied 2-5hr a day just to keep up. Out of 19 students 10 failed the first test. If it was not for the extra-credit I would have screwed up my GPA with this class. If you do not have to take this class save your self and take something else.. The teacher was also very rude and degrading to the students calling us stupid ect.
I think the reason that the man so often refers to his students as "stupid" is because so many of them are. It was embarassing how some people refused to study, refused to do the readings, and ignored extra credit oppurtunities and then claimed that he was being mean with his grading system. A very, very intelligent man.
Good teacher, but makes you work your butt off for your grade. The class is actually way more interesting than it sounds. He is most definitely a liberal so write with a liberal perspective and you'll do just fine.
Loved him, has funny off sense of humor, lectures well, but if you dont like taking notes your SOL. He expects you to study and do well. He may not be for everyone, but I enjoyed his class even if I am not doing well in it.
I loved this guy- he's very respectful of people with different views than his, but no matter what your view, you'd better be able to back up what you say unless you want to feel really stupid! His class was very hard, but even if you get a C, you'll feel so good knowing that you learned a lot (as long as you actually pay attention in class)!
Good teacher, show up to class, do what he says and you'll be fine. Testing is rather difficult but not impossible,he gives you essay questions and a few answers ahead of time. He's strict, but if you show a genuine interest you should do fine, provided you follow that up with doing the work. Very informative, defiantly worth it.
Great teacher very informative and knowledgeable, would definatly take his classes again if he was teaching in a place like Yakima
Strongly not recommended to take his online class. Started out 25 kids ended up with 7 kids, I was one of them and got a 1.0 out of the class. I talked to him to raise it but he said no. He gave assignments that would take 2-3 hours to do twice a week and his tests were 50 questions, few essays, and nearly impossible to pass.
I took Dr. Jeske's Poli Sci 101 class in 1995 at YVCC. It was the hardest class I've EVER taken. I completing a Phd in Music Composition. This class makes my doctoral level classes seem like pre-school. Be prepared to study and work your tail off. Warning: do not take this class your freshman year. He's a nice person and easy to get along with.
A pretty easy class if you are a decent student. Lots of people complain about him, but I didnt see what wsa so hard, I got a 4.0 out of the class. Hes a little annoying because he brings his personal issues into the class..
Challenges you to THINK! That's what college classes are FOR, people! I recommend you be prepared to study your buns off, take the online quizzes befote a test because a lot of questions are on it, and PARTICIPATE in his lectures. One of my absolute favorite professors and classes and I'm not even a poli sci major!
I am usually an A student, I took this class online and it was brutal.Massive amounts of studying and he grades harshly. If you find an alternative class, take it! He thinks highly of himself and expects way too much from his student-not recommended.
Great teacher who takes an interest in his students and wants them to participate in lectures. The homework does take some time to finish but isn't impossible. People say to avoid this class but I disagree, his class is very informative and worth the time and effort!
He is a great Professor! I have taken him for three Poli-Sci classes, and he may seem prickly, but he is a teddy bear! Stick with his class and as the class numbers dwindle you will notice more and more of his awesomeness seeping out! He is one of the best assets of YVCC!
Someone just asked me yesterday if I knew if Tim was still teaching at YVCC. I love that he is. I took a couple of courses from him in the mid 90s. If any student has aspirations beyond community college, she/he should take any course he offers. The prep will help. He is insanely bright, a lot of fun, and a true gift in a community like Yakima.
he takes some softening up but he super sweet. i don't understand why people say the homework is hard is is pretty flat out just takes a lot describing on ones own terms and he gives you a whole week. it would get me but only because i waited until sunday night. and dont try to write a one paragraph essay itll hurt you.
This man knows his stuff! If you don't like to do your homework, well, that's your problem. If recomend taking this class!
This man knows his stuff! Not for people who like to take the easy way out.
Great guy. Takes a little getting used to.
Dr. Jeske's classes are tough, but with good reason. If you want to succeed in your academic career, take as many courses from him as you can! (especially w/ his course #'s dwindling and facing removal). He is a brilliant, witty, incredibly learned man and there is absolutely no mistaking that the Dr. in his title belongs there. Favorite prof, byfar
Outside of the classroom, I assume he's a great guy. As a professor, he's terrible. He becomes extremely annoyed when you ask anything of him. He's extremely arrogant, and expects you to know as much as he does. If writing is your weak spot, do NOT take this class.
Awesome prof, best I've ever had.
Teacher is very, very smart, he knows what he's talking about but at times can get arrogant. He expects you to know as much as he knows. If you ask for clarification he gets somewhat annoyed. Hard class, definitely a challenge. I thought I was doing well and understood but never really was. Would not recommend unless that's your real interetest
Fabulous at times...but he lacks the understanding that he works at a community college in a conservative town. If he could grasp that concept it's possible that he wouln't act so arrogant. When we ask for help it's not because we're stupid it's because we're learning.
Dr. Jeske is a brilliant man. Yes, his lectures can be very one sided and express his own views, but aside from that you learn a lot. I would not recommend this class if you do not like writing, considering the "W" makes it writing intensive. He makes it very clear what he expects, and you will have no problems with him if you put your all into it.
Watched all his lectures and even studied for the tests, but when it came time for the test most of the essay questions had nothing to do with political science. Your required to read 2 books, yes the questions were in the book, but they weren't relevant to the class! They where more like trick questions. Beware!!!
Best instructor I've ever had. Changed my life. Hardest college classes I have ever taken. If you would like to think for yourself his class is great. I plan to major in poli sci now. If your lazy don't take his class. I've had him for two classes both fairly tough. Also very stylist dresser ;)
Very difficult and expects students to have lots of knowledge already, and leaves lots of reading and tests u on it
This class is very hard. There were only 12 people on the class roster. One never showed, and one dropped before the first class. He assigns a book on Turkey's government just because he likes it, which makes no sense to me and just adds more reading. Never talks about the Turkey text in class but it's in essay questions on all the test.
His class is only based on passing the tests, if you don't test well be prepared. He will give you online lectures and ask you to listen to them outside of class (they can be about and hour long :(If you want to pass the exams this is what you need to do. Go online to the Colomer book website and do the practice exams and know them...
I've taken two classes with Jeske, and the 100W was by far easier than the 202 course. In the 100W all you do is take notes, and then write papers. As long as you write about what you're supposed to, you should be fine. The 202 class on the other hand was extremely difficult unless you studied every night, I would not taking the 202 unless need be.
Too much time required outside of class watching lectures and reading textbook, class time is mostly wasted, very inefficient use of time.
His lectures areally never boring but he is arrogant and unwilling to help students. He HATES running start students with a passion so beware! He does not have a clear set of expectations for his homework or tests making the class ridiculously hard. He refuses to help to the point he told students that got a D (or less) on the first test to drop.
His lectures online were extremely boring and hard to connect with. He is condescending and a lot of what he teaches in class isn't even on the test. I took political science hoping to learn about our own country's policies and government, however he insists on us learning about TURKEY. Literally the country of Turkey. Like, why? I'm bitter.
Dr. Jeske was amazing. If you choose to take his class be prepared to learn, work hard and attend class everyday. He takes PoliSci very seriously, and he is extremely knowledgable in this subject. If you are just taking his class for a credit and are not serious about learning, I wouldn't suggest choosing something else. Jeske is highly qualified
I had Dr. Jeske for Poli Sci 100W, 201, and 202. He is an amazing professor and he is very passionate about teaching political science. I found all of his classes very enjoyable because of how charismatic he is! His lectures are very thought provoking, entertaining, and informative. Be prepared to work hard and take lots of notes.
Pros: Very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. Cons: He is condescending and rude when you ask questions. You watch lectures online from 2012 which means all the examples are outdated. In class, students lead the discussion which would be fine if he created an inviting environment. I've never had such a disrespectful professor.
If you aren't a liberal you will have a tough time in this class. He talks more about his personal feelings about the government and political issues than what is actually factual about the government. Oh and if you say something he doesn't agree with, be ready to stand up for yourself.
Wasn't many assignments in order to get points, but does offer extra credit sometimes. Is a very difficult grader, he admitted he spends less than a minute grading some people's exams. I'm an honor student, but earned my first ever C from this class. Currently the only teacher for political science, so I recommend avoiding if you can.
He is a very knowledgeable man however he has many flaws. In his own words "I am a raging liberal", everyone has political views however he teaches amer. Gvmt. He teaches from his liberal standpt and that's it. If a question starts with "you think" he really isn't asking for your opinion he wants what he said. Wish YVC had another teacher option.
Very knowledgeable about American government. Lectures get boring. Expects you to know stuff that he's supposed to be teaching. Very arrogant and rude when you ask questions.
Very narrow-minded. on most subjects it's his thinking or you fail. If you're running start, DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
Dr. Jeske is by far the worst professor I have ever had. I have taken his 101 and 203 class because they were a graduation requirement. His class is heavily biased. He only teaches his liberal opinion and nothing else. Not only is this annoying but very unprofessional. He is also very rude and not understanding. Avoid taking him at all costs!!!!!!
He can definitely be a bit sarcastic, but I've taken 3 classes with him and I've found him to be a fair grader, clear about what he's grading on, and willing to help if you don't understand the material. If you're going to argue with him, make sure you have a sound argument.
He explains things clearly and has a great sense of humor, which helps get important points across! However, his class was very difficult and the amount of homework/reading was a bit overwhelming. All of the multiple choice questions on the tests come from the back of each chapter in the book so study the multiple choice questions in the book!
He hates Republicans Independence voters. If you write your papers with logic or facts, you will get a low grade. Avoid him. Trust me.
had a good experience with this teacher. if you are nice to him, he's nice to you. amazing lectures and explanations. would take him again. don't know why all his reviews are so bad, i had a good experience with him.
I wrote a paper on the promotion of democracy, spent 4 hours each day for 9 days, i thought it was sufficient and well written. I included almost everything from my notes that i took down from the lecture. My score was a 58 out of 100. I am a 3.5 gpa student ive never gotten a D ever. very heavy in grading, did not like him. don't recommend.
Great teacher, his lectures were amazing. Very tough class, but it prepares you well for future hard classes.
I took poly sci 101 & 100W. I did fairly descent in his classes but thats because I ignored my own political notions. Dr. Jeske is VERY liberal and thats all that matters to him. If you disagree it isnt going to work out on the exams/papers as he only sees the liberal point of view as the right answer.
Running Start students should definitly avoid taking Jeske's class as it's a graduation requirement. Take the class elsewhere is possible. Jeske is a ruthless grader and his lectures are very rarely relevent to his tests. He is heavily biased and lets you know it. Take caution when expressing opinon in class or on papers.
Every day was one long lecture with no class engagement. The lectures tended to sound like rambles, to where going to class didn't feel important. He's a very, very tough grader and the entire course grade is based off of quizzes/tests. Although he's a very intelligent person and I learned some, I wouldn't recommend this course.
Dr. Jeske is arguably the worst teacher at YVC. I found the homework he provided to be unreasonable and on top of other class work almost impossible to get done. Also Dr. Jeske's expectations for his students is unreasonably high and its very tough to even pull a C out of the class.
He loves Turkey. You listen to Turkish pop on Fridays. The class struggled with the tests (the 1st test had 2/3 of the class with D's + F's), but if you really take the time to study the lectures and the notes you take of what he says during the lectures, you should be fine. It takes a long time to study and memorize everything, but it can be done!
I've never had a worse experience with a teacher, he is rude, disrespectful and doesn't care about the students. A girl in my class had to leave 5 MINUTES before class was let out and he said to sit her a** back down or don't come back. His assignments have nothing to do with the tests and take hours to finish. I barely had time for other classes.
Dr. Jeske says at the beginning of the class that you are the ones who earn your grade, I do not choose & pick what grades I feel your assignment/test deserves This is the exact opposite of what happened. I memorized all term & answered every Q thoroughly & I still barely got a B-,you could write exactly what another person did t a worse score
I hated his class but loved him as a person. He was funny at times and made a lot of good points. That said, it was near impossible to pass. I was a 1st quarter Running Start student & got a D. I studied, did all the assignments, even met him outside of class to ask what I should be doing. Don't sign up for his class if you don't have a LOT of time
Dr. Jeske was a fair instructor as long as you make it to class everyday you should be fine. His test are fairly easy as long as you study. Homework can be pretty heavy but most of it can be found online easily.
This is not a class you should take for credit, but it is definitely not as bad as everyone says. Dr Jeske makes you work for your grade and the class is quite lecture heavy but I learned a LOT from this class. Be prepared to take notes/study and you should be able to pass. He offers extra credit on the tests(I passed the class with a 102%)
I took this class during the pandemic so it was online. I got very sick and asked if I could have assignment extensions. His response was a long excuse for why I couldn't, that ended with "If your health is compromised and you cannot keep up with the requirements of your classes you should consider withdrawing." I got a week behind and failed.
Very tough grader. I would turn in assignments on time and completely answered, but it was not enough. Not enough time to understand the material properly. I suggest taking another professor.
Awful professor, going into this class I was expecting the political part to revolve around US politics, nope its on Turkey of all places. Yells aggressively when he's upset, lecture heavy, tough grader, doesn't wait for you when it comes to understanding the material and tests have nothing to do with the study guides he gives you. DO NOT TAKE!
Worst teacher Ive ever had. Hes not understanding at all when youre sick. I was in the hospital for a few days and had to have surgery, and he told me to have an assignment done within the next few hours. Impossible. No answer I provided was good enough. I wrote entire essays for 5-10 points and it still wasnt good enough. Take ANYONE else.
Extremely liberal, and makes his class based on his beliefs. I had to work my butt off just to get the grade I did, and pretty much lied in all of my papers so it looked like I agreed with him. I can almost guarantee I would have failed if I wrote my own opinion. Good practice for future hard classes though. Avoid at all costs, take someone else.
I didn't really like the guy. He's the worst professor I've taken so far, however, I am confident there is someone far worse than him. You know he has his opinions but so does everyone else, I felt he respected my opinions, even when we disagreed. I took him online so I didn't have to listen to his Turkish pop or whatever.
So glad I didnt have him in person, the only good thing about this pandemic. How I got a good grade even I dont know, just read the book and watch the lectures to help out on homework. Dont take this class with other core classes, I suggest having optional classes because this class takes up a lot of time.
This class was a lot of work, this may sound lazy but trust me this class is to much for even those who like it. I would not recommend him to anyone, not even my worst enemies. Id tell someone to drop out before Id tell them to take Jeske. Everyone I know I hates the guy. No one ever takes Jeske again. STUDENTS BEWARE!
This is a hard class but it is possible to get a good grade. I recommend not taking this with another core class if its possible because the workload is pretty large. Fact check and pay attention to spelling! Write long essay answers, like really long. He rewards effort. Study bullet points and be able to elaborate for tests, read and participate.
I'm glad I took his class online. He REALLY makes you work for your grade. It took me a while to understand what he expected from me, and here it is: he wants you to explain things in your own words and give tons of examples. Take notes as if you were already writing the essays, and make them long. Check your citations multiple times. Good luck.
He is the WORST teacher I have ever had! I told him that someone in my family passed away and he didn´t reply until the day after the homework is due. There are no lectures and you basically have to teach yourself. He says to put your opinion but seems very bias in his answer. He doesn't even teach, you and crash course are your teachers.
I dropped the class after 1 week. I turned in one assignment and it was probably the best assignment I have ever done and yet I still received a D on it. He doesn't help and try to explain what you should do better. He tells you to just figure it out. The smartest people I know failed his class. I recommend avoiding his class.
Dr. Jeske expects a lot from his students, from time put in on assignments to quality of work. It is definitely excessive at most points. His lectures are out of date (I took the class online) and none of the lectures material is on quizzes. Only textbook. The exams are reasonable, but homework requires 3+ hours per night to be very successful.
This Professor is not understanding at all. You have an emergency, he does not take it. He wants specific answers and he won't take anything else. Such a horrible teacher, don't even try to ask for an extension because he'll give you a long excuse of why you can't have it. I spent about 5 hours-3 Days on his homework and I still got about a F!
I see that others have said similar and accurate things, but I certainly would never recommend this instructor. With it being online, I haven't had a teacher be so disconnected and removed from a class besides him. I'm not sure you can say he's "teaching" rather than providing you a self-taught learning expedition. NOT for the faint of heart.
He is very specific about what he wants in his assignments. Make sure to add in quotes and explain why they are important in the reading assignments. The class was confusing because we were learning about two different topics at the same time. We learned about the government and Turkey. it was confusing to keep track.
I am an A student and this is the hardest class I have ever taken. He didn't teach at all and was not helpful. Homework assignments take a lot of time to complete and he only wants very specific answers. Exams are very hard and you only get 60 minutes to complete them. I do not recommend taking this class!!!
I have... mixed feelings about Professor Jeske, there were a lot of times this quarter where I genuinely hated his guts, but I came around later. VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION: You will receive a flat 90 bonus points at the end of the quarter! Don't stress about an A, you only need about 82% to come out with above 94% after those insurance points
This guys is the worst dude ever. He is the most rude guys ever I hate his stinkin guts. He is not helpful at all he is not understanding. I dont think anyone should ever have to take a class with him ever. DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT TAKING HIS CLASS!
I was really nervous to take him, I did cry on my first test because it was so hard. However, once you learn what is needed/expected from you, his class is not so bad.I really liked it. I know a lot of people don't like the fact that he teaches about Turkey, but it's really interesting.
Jeske's classes are very difficult, however they led me to pursue poli sci as my future. I took 101 & 202 at yvc online and found a passion for it. You do have to be willing to put in the work however. One negative note, I wished his online classes were more personal as all lectures were prerecorded from several years ago.
- Really strict grader -Did not give back good feedback -Assigned hw and a quiz every 4-5 days
Very, very tough teacher. I missed the first exam and a couple assignments because I was sick, and he made it clear that there was absolutely no way for me to boost my grade and that I was screwed. A test and essay due every 3-4 days. He gave feedback on the entire class, no personal feedback on anything but the final. Lots and lots of reading.
He was a great professor. He's well informed and you will learn a lot. Lots of people may tell you otherwise but really it's just a lot of reading and lectures. Take time to write good long responses to his questions. If you have questions email him or go to his office hours. Don't be lazy or procrastinate!
Taking this class felt like taking drugs, except you don't ever get high, and you get all of the side effects, including cancer. I wouldn't want my worst enemy to take this class, and anyone that says they enjoyed this class is lying. This class made me want to bash my skull into my wall. If you take this class and want an A, good luck.
Wost. Teacher. Ever. I'm a running start students and this is my second year at yvc. I've never gotten this bad of a grade my entire life and that says something. He doesn't tell you how to improve even if you got a bad grade. I didn't get a single A on any assignment in his class even after spending hours a day on his assignments
Do not drop the class. He is very good about extra credit and is very organized. If you put in the work your grade will reflect that. Honestly, just do everything as you are supposed to, do not take any short cuts and you will be fine.
I do believe Mr. Jeske's intentions are pure, but his class is incredibly hard. He has more of an outdated teaching style, which seems to make his class much harder. I DO NOT recommend taking the class online. Take it in person if you can!!
NOT AS BAD AS EVERYONE SAYS! Is this a hard class? Yes. Is Jeske the devil reincarnated as I was told prior to taking his class? No. If you are a slow reader/writer this will be a challenging class, if not it's simply a large but doable workload. Expect to read 2 chapters a week and write 3 essays. Learn what gets a good grade and use that formula.
I am sure in-person classes with Dr.Jeske could be bearable but online classes are extremely difficult. He's a critical grader and if you do not amount up to his level you will not have anything higher than a B.
Hate him. From his outdated ways of teaching to his specific wants for each question he asks. He doesn't even teach nor does he give examples of what type of work he wants. Never ever take his class.
Very much homework/lecture heavy. Includes unclear questions and refuses to elaborate. Gives you only 24 hours to take a test (meaning he opens the test up at 12 am and closes it that same day) Tests a near impossible to get a good score on the test (40 multiple choice plus 1 essay within 60 minutes) Overall bad instructor, alright person though.
No help or give opportunities to improve your grade. Jeske tells you to learn from your mistakes. Spending a lot of time, trying your hardest but you never see an improvement in your grade, instead your grade drops. Jeske told me to study only in his class, (end up failing). Take this class if English is your strongest and your first language.
Professor Jeske is unrealistic, lazy, and unhelpful. Students receive minimal to no assistance. When my classmates or I attempt to seek guidance or clarification, Professor Jeske's responses often is to "refer to the syllabus." He has grown too complacent. No flexibility in late assignments, one extra credit HW it does not help your grade in any way
Only decent thing about his class was the homework release schedule. He is bad at communicating properly in regards to notifying students on certain dates and rules especially when it comes to exams. He also gave me a zero on a few of my assignments without a proper explanation as to why.
The only decent thing about his class was the homework release schedule but even then a bit more time would have been helpful. He is poor at communicating properly especially in regards to notifying and setting the rules of the exams. This professor gave me zeros on several of my assignments and did so without explanation as to why I got them!
Mans would give me awful grades on the assignments, and when I would go to him and ask, he wasn't clear on why I got the bad score, he told me to read the comments he left on the assignment which was literally just a copy and paste response. Also whenever someone would answer a question he asked the class, he would make them feel bad for answering.
ITS NOT AS BAD AS PEOPLE SAY. Yes, it is not an easy course at all, however, it's not nearly as bad as people make it to be. Take advantage of online resources like quizlet, you may take as many notes in class as you want and use them on the tests, and pay attention in class! Trust me, you're able to do it. If I can, so can you.
Jeske's class is a challenging but rewarding experience. The workload is heavy, but if you stay on top of the readings and use resources like unstuck study for study prep, you can succeed. It's worth the effort.
He explains very well and does not faulted to put a smile on your face
Honestly not as bad as people say. Lectures were interesting and informative. He has a strict “no late work” policy, but makes up for it with lots of extra credit opportunities and extra points built in to several assignments. The only thing is that he is VERY liberal, and would often go on rants about Trump during lectures.
He is rude and does not respect the students. Stopped the lecture when I stepped out to use the restroom, he then belittled me infront of the class when I came back. He demands students cover up their tattoos. Exams are very difficult. Yes, he really is that bad.
He definitely runs a class where you get the grade that is equivalent to the effort you put into it. He will respect you if you respect him. He is easy to talk to, and has amazing lectures. He does assign a fair amount out of reading, but nothing crazy. and homework is light work. For essays he basically tells you what to write.
He had the papers due every time to be completed before 12am. For the final paper it was at 12pm but I was working full time and misread it and thus missed the final assignment. He refused to allow me to do the assignment despite never being late before. Dropped my A to a B. Lots and lots of reading and rereading for nothing.
For a 200-level class, it was very easy. 70% of it was just class discussions and lectures. Jeske never really gave quizzes, just a light amount of reading to do every night, so we could have an in-class discussion the next day about the chapter. And yes, attendance was mandatory, but it was only worth 5% of your overall grade.
