Tim is the best! My boyfriend and I took this class together, thinking it would be awful and we would need the help concentrating, but turns out it rocked! This is one of my favorite classes and Tim is the best teacher at the school. Take it with him!
Good teacher, fun class. He as an uncanny resemblance of Matt Damon.
Tim made this class really enjoyable and it wasn't too hard. He really wants you to be informed and actually care about the politics in our country and trys not to teach to his opinion only. Two midterms and a final are the only tests. Take from him! He's really nice and is way better than the others.
He is really hot, and he can teach. He is a really good teacher and cares about your opinion and never tries to be biased. He lets us watch really funny Daily Show videos and YouTube ( as long as it has something to do with PoliSci) I HIGHLY RECOMEND TAKING THIS CLASS WITH HIM!
Tim is a great teacher. He was pretty easy on us, but you have to come to class and put a little effort into it. He is very understanding about any problems you have with homework and takes your opinion about the homework very seriously. This is a fun class! He let us watch Daily Show clips that had to do with our chapter. Theres only three tests.
He's reeeally nice and funny. My boyfriend and I took this class, and switched from his early morning to his early-early morning. Hes a great teacher and makes you interested in the topic. He obviously loves what he teaches and WANTS you to do well. Take this class! Plus, hes cute, which helps!
Tim is a very helpful teacher that wants you to excel in his class. He has extensive knowledge of the subject and has a real passion for it. Tim is also very funny and enjoys political humor. He always had us doing sort of micro debates among each other, so that we can see different ways of thinking about different issues.

This teacher is extremely nice and he helps you when you don't understand something. He is pretty flexible on homework. Coming to class everyday and putting effort in the work is important though. Complete all your homework and do well on tests and do some participation and that's pretty much it. I enjoyed this class very much. hes preety cute too
Great teacher. Pay really clost attention in lecture and take a lot of notes. I did that and only read one chapter of the book and got an A- in the class. Gives easy study guides before tests. Its a really interesting class!
This class was really interesting and not much homework but the way he phrased or asked you to answer questions on the test made me get alot wrong even if I knew the answer! Still, it was an interesting class and I enjoyed it alot
Man, he is the whole package. HOT, funny, intelligent and obviously passionate for his work. He kept lectures really interesting. Workload of assigned reading was big but it was always helpful and never a waste of time. I highly recommend him!
Tim is a great professor. He requires a good deal of reading but that is to be expected of a college course. He uses power-point & posts them online so students can follow along which is helpful. He integrated movie & short clips to keep the class engaged. His midterm was easy but made the final more challenging. Overall Tim is a great professor.
He was a great professor. There is a bit of reading but he keeps the class very interesting. He used video clips and movies too. If the class is well behaved he gives really helpful study guides. He doesnt enforce his opinion or views. I highly recommended his class!
AWESOME teacher. Really fun class even though I've always hated politics, he somehow made it interesting. Definitely would recommend him.
If you do the work and pay attention, you will pass!
He is a great teacher, i wasnt very interested in politics prior to taking his class but he made it interesting. and he is cute!
Over all, I think he is a good teacher, but a lot of readings and his Pols&203 class was so hard. However, his Pols&202 and Pols&101 class was easy.If you know you will do the reading, take his class and you will learn a lot, if you won't do the reading, I think at least you will get a C in all of his classes.
Personally, one of my favorites.
Very good teacher. Some quizes required short answers, not just multiple choice. Discussions, homework, journals required some thinking but for the most part you could state your opinion, argument it, justify it and get a full credit. Definitely recommend him, but expect to put in some work. Don't buy the book - just read a little in the library.
I LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS CLASS!! I would recommend Tim to anyone. In addition to being hot, he's a fabulous teacher, great at explaining things. He makes politics incredibly interesting. There's a lot of reading but it's all really interesting. He doesn't remind you before assignments are due, so write it down! TAKE HIS CLASS IF POSSIBL
Terrible teacher. I realize it's a politics class but he brings his views in and heavily slants the class. Assignments are not that hard but he doesn't accept late work and only posts about half the stuff on the calendar. Less organized than he was asking his students to be. I would not take another class with him as there are much better teachers.
I took his class online, so I didn't quite get to experience his teaching style. We had a lot of reading every day and we had to participate in the discussions, which really weren't that stimulating online. However, I did get to meet Tim in person and he seemed to be a a good teacher. I think the class is a lot of work, but I would recommend him!
He is an amazing teacher who provided me with lots of help. I learned a lot from this class especially because his teaching methods actually imprint the information in your head. He is really handsome and I recommend him to anyone who is scared of approaching Political Science. He shares viewpoints and provides different ways of learning. :)
Great teacher in every way. He not only teaches you about politics but he teaches you how to navigate the media so that you are not fooled by their tactics. The assignments really help you examine your own habits and what you get out of the class. He is pretty good looking too and smiles a lot which is nice. DO NOT SHOW UP LATE TO HIS CLASS.
An OK teacher. Bulk of assignments are readings and the midterm and final are mainly related to the readings and movies watched. He is a nice guy and assignments are not difficult, however he grades your english on assignments, so you may be docked points because of grammar or your wording rather than the government part. Participatation is key.
Second class I took with Tim, and once again it was fantastic. In spite of being about to have a baby, he kept the class on track. He's a great teacher, I'd recommend him to everyone.
Tim is still my favorite teacher. His tests are good, his expectations are clear, he usually gives out grades reliably. I'd recommend that everyone try to take Political Science from him.
Tim is a good teacher. His expectations are clear, and he has a good rapport with his students. However, if you do not share his political views, you will be graded down. No matter how well you write a paper, if you are conservative and it shows in your work, you will get a lower grade than your more liberal minded class mates.
I really enjoyed taking Tim's class. I wasn't very passionate about Political Science, but after taking Tim's class I wanted to take action against the injustices in our political system so much that I decided on my major. Tim is clear, nonpartisan and provides interesting material. Sometimes the readings are a bit long, but it's all interesting.
ONLINE. It was my harder class this quarter as I had readings and assignments for every day but since they were all due at the end of the week it made things a lot easier. If you are very self motivated this would be a great class for you. If you are also not into politics you will at least gain some interest (Least I did)
(On Campus). Tons of Reading- text & excerpts. Very passionate, straight-forward prof. Rec'd A, but worked hard for it. Keep up with weekly readings, assgnmnts and papers. If you are remotely lazy or disinterested in politics/social issues- pick another prof. Hard for the level that it is. Prof seems sick of students lack of effort and care.
He assigns heaps of reading, but it's for the student's benefit. His goal is for you to understand the material so well you can practically apply it. He's obviously liberal on many topics, but the ONLY time he dings points for non-liberal views is when you don't support said views with anything more than "Amurika". Fair, hot, passionate, smart, etc
As I took this online, it was nice how he responded fairly quickly, probably the next day. In regards to assignments, tons of pdfs to read and a little from the actual textbook and then discussion. Also, there are some mini projects which aren't too bad. I only took one midterm and had a reflection for the final. Overall, the class was pretty fun.
I took his classonline, not a bad teacher. Assigns a ton of reading and has discussions every day. Its not hard but can get frustrating at times. I would say that he less organized then most teachers, which bothered me.
Great class. He's super entertaining in class, goes over news, shows funny videos related to politics. My only problem was with the weekly journals, they're a pain, but not too difficult.
Tim is a great teacher! Even though I was not interested in politics before the class, his teaching has changed how I look at the world. He also is very specific in his assignment commentary, but I would say that his major assignment grading is a little harsh. The hw load is also heavy, but overall I'm very glad I took this class! Great experience!
I really enjoyed this class. I didn't really care about politics prior to taking this class but now I see the many problems in the American justice system. It has really showed me how to take a stand against injustices. TONS of reading, but it's all relevant and entertaining. Grades a little harsh on assignments. I highly recommend him!
ONLINE-- I and wasn't interested in political science at all prior to taking this class though Tim really did open my eyes to some things. This class is not your average history of politics class, from WikiLeaks to unequal drug penalties for different races, how corporate companies run everything, etc. Fantastic class if you can manage your time.
Tim is great! He uses funny youtube videos and funny articles to supplement the readings from the textbook. There is a minimum of 5 discussions due throughout the week and a weekly journal. Although time consuming these help to raise your grade. He only has a mid-term and final. You'll find Political Science is fun & interesting after this class!
Tim clearly cares about the subject matter and does a very good job of making you think about politics and the world in general in ways you may not have previously. Text book is the best one I've ever had assigned. There is a lot of reading, but if you do the reading and contribute on the weekly discussion boards you will succeed. Highly Recommend
Worst class ever. I have always loved government and history, but he ruined it for me. This class was a ridiculous amount of work. He grades incredibly harshly on papers and tests, saying he justifies it because he gives lots of 'easy points' which are in fact not easy to get. I got A+ in AP US, and AP World, but this is way hard. DO NOT TAKE.
This class was hard work, but it was worth it because I learned so much. There is a lot of reading in addition to video clips, weekly discussions, weekly journals, and other activities. His tests are hard, but he's generally not as tough on the weekly assignments. Tim cares about his students and clearly has a passion for what he teaches.
I took this class and was overwhelmed by the amount of reading materials he gave. Then the homework was astronomical and hard to keep up with as I work fulltime. The midterm and final exam were not as he said they would be. They are very tough, so if you do well on your assignments but don't do well on a test-it really affects your grade. I will say he provides good material and I learned quite a bit from his class. If you work or have other committments-this class would not be the one you want to take.
The class was fairly easy but had a lot of busy work. Also his grading is tough on your writing assignments if you do not share the same opinions as him. He doesn't really do much as a teacher. On one of my assignments he said I should be having a different point of view than I did so gave me a low grade. I think that is wrong but what can you do?
Like most people have said, he gives a load of reading, but it is all pretty interesting and valid. If you do the readings, the tests (there is only a midterm and final) are relatively easy. My complaint is that he didn't clearly state his standards for writing assignments, and his grading is a bit harsh. Can still get an A though.
Tim is such a though grader he gets lots of points off you for smallest things. You got to be perfect to get good grades in his class. He gives you loads of work like as if his class is the only class you are going to be taking. I don't recommend him, but at the same time he is ok if you don't have problem seeing your grade drop a lot.
Took his online class and he had insane expectations for us such as reading 30 pages a day and throws in hour long videos to watch some days. Very tough grader and not a nice guy, will knock off points for neglecting to do things that weren't in the rubric. Basically wants you to be able to read his mind and come into the class already an expert.
Strict grader. He's very easy when it comes to discussions/weekly journals, but once it comes to actual assignments, he marks you off for the SMALLEST things. I feel like I'm taking a political science and an english class all together cause he's so strict on grammar. There's so much unncessary reading. He doesn't teach, it's just reading
If you are taking this class for humanities credit, DON'T. I'd only recommend this class if your major requires it. I had more work in this class and it was more time consuming than my two other classes (both 200 level science classes) combined. Extreme amount of daily reading and gives most of it as supplemental text, not the textbook!
I loved Tim! He always made me feel very inspired to change the way the world is. There's a lot of reading he expects you to do but it was never enough that I didn't feel like I could handle it. He's really funny too and easy to approach about questions.
Very inspirational. Makes us feel like we can make a difference in the world of politics.
Most of the reviewers have no idea what a 200 college level class requires. First off, it is an online class so plan to spend an hour per day doing reading or writing. One day it might be less, one day it might be more. But realize you are not in the classroom for that time. If you do this and take the class seriously, you will be fine.
I really enjoyed this class. It gave me the basic knowledge of Political Science , I feel smarter, lol. His feedback on the assignments were helpful.
Took him for IDS125. Gives quite a bit of homework and reading. All the reading interesting though. Inspired me to learn more about political science (a subject I wasn't a fan of). Would recommend him to anyone, just make sure you participate. He isn't someone you can bs your way to an A.
I took both 202 and 101 from him, 202 was more fun because it was more in-depth. All you have to do is really read and understand the syllabus and he will help. Emails back fast. I said the class was a "show up and pass" but that is really the case if you just read and answer the discussion boards. Your participation is what you get tested on.
This was one of the best classes that I've taken. He is very approachable and you can feel free to ask him questions or get clarification about an assignment. The online course content is well organized. Grading is straight forward. It is easy to get a good grade if you keep up on the assignments.
Super interesting class, helpful and friendly teacher, TONS of reading. Discussions are a big part of it. If you do the reading and post in the discussions you'll be fine. Keep up and be open minded and you'll learn a lot. I'll take any class Tim teaches.
He tells you at the beginning of the course that the class isn't an easy 4.0. This is true. Making time for readings every day is the best option because otherwise you'll be reading 400+ pages the night the midterm/final is due. It's mostly interesting reading and class discussions are easy points. You will probably get a B if you try hard enough.
I loved this class! SO much reading & there was always supplemental readings and videos. It was very time consuming but I learned so much & feel like a more well-rounded person for having taken this class. He is obviously passionate and it made it fun, interesting & inspiring. I'd love to have him as a teacher again. Or just grab a beer & chat.
I really enjoyed this class and instructor. Everything was really straight forward. You have to contribute to group discussions and write a journal every week and there's an occasional essay assignment. He is easy to contact. The textbook is really good and easy to read and understand. I'm taking his 202 class next quarter.
He's a nice person but he grades assignments really hard and you have to read a ton to keep up with discussions. There aren't a ton of tests really only the midterm and final but they are quite difficult.
Tim Jones, though he assigns a lot of homework, does his best to personalize his teaching, and make the class entertaining even for the most avid Civics haters such as me. I can't believe I am actually saying this, but Dr. J actually got me interested in politics for the first time in my life. If you have to take a Civics class, take it from him.
He knows what he's talking about. Very informed, but signs a lot of reading so be prepared to read a bunch of texts. Also a tough grader, but he gives really good feedback.
Very well thought out class and cares a whole bunch what he is teaching. Be ready for extreme levels of reading all of which supports his extremely liberal background. Overall interesting class and if you want to take a PS class than this is a good one.
First off, this is for the Model UN, which by nature is research/work intensive. That being said, Tim does a good job preparing and helping you get through it, but the class requires personal initiative to succeed. Tim is inspirational and passionate about teaching- great feedback. Grading is very slow and not always consistent with the syllabus.
Expect at least 80+ pages of reading per week. Review major assignments as soon as possible. He's a tough grader, and only gave a one point extra credit that he said should take 15 minutes, it took me 45 mins. I enjoyed his political action assignment, it pushed me to get involved on an issue.
All of the assignments were really easy and easy A's if you do as they are instructed. The only two bad/ok grades I got the entire course was the midterm and the final; I think I ran out of time so STUDY! He was a great professor, pretty relaxed and very fair.
I took both POLS101 & 202. He will be one of my favorite professors :) The contents are interesting and it'll definitely help you understand the political system better. It's important to read them though cuz you'll be tested on that. I wish there were more classes taught by him. TIP: He doesn't have bias, but it'll help if you are liberal.
Very organized :) If you study the study guides, you'll have no problem with the exams. There's a lot of reading, but they were all easy to read. I definitely recommend him.
His class was challenging because of the large amount of reading every day, but it was definitely worth it - I learned a lot. If you want something meaningful out of your education, definitely take Tim. The course was also really organized, and the grading criteria was incredibly clear. The exams were fine as long you did the study guides.
Don't get me wrong, Dr. J taught us very interesting material, BUT he communicates unclearly and is very rude when asked for clarification. Countless times he has gone back on his instructions, I would literally quote previous emails and he would still reply with an unclear, rude answer filled with perplexing words. PROCEED WITH CAUTION!!
not very clear grading criteria, but not a very strict grader either. Very interesting & thought provoking course material, but LOTS of reading. Not an easy A, but I would recommend.
This class isn't really hard, but has lots of reading to do. You can probably get away with looking some things up, but a lot of the times need to do the reading to do the discussions. Only complaint is, I take this class with a friend of mine and get our work done at around the same times. He ends up giving him full credit and my partial.
I am in his model UN program and couldn't be more glad with the instruction. He cares about his student's success like nothing I have experienced, and it has been a pleasure learning from him.
Tim was an easy grader, but you had readings nearly every day. Every week, you have to post in 5 discussions and a weekly journal in order to get full credit. I recommend doing the daily prompts (based on the readings) every day because some of the short answer questions on his exams are straight from those. Make sure you don't get left behind!
Worst class I have ever taken at Bellevue College. Tons of reading, 30+ textbook pages a day. Some days 50-70, depending on the day. Five discussion posts a week plus a journal are due. Midterm and final plus a few major writing assignments. No weekly quizzes to know if you are staying on track. Dont take if you dont want 2-3 hours of work daily!
If you are looking for an easy class, this is definitely not one you want to take. Lots of reading every night and discussions too. If you dont do the prompt questions youre wasting time. I learned a lot in this class, but it was not easy at all and you have to work for a good grade.
It was a real refresher to get the grade back for a writing assignment and get clear feedback on what you did right and what you did wrong. As long as you stay on track and complete the weekly assignments you should be guaranteed a good grade in this class. My only issue with his class is the fact that there are no quizzes to help you stay on track
The teacher seemed to grade both viewpoints with fairness. Although all of the class content that we learned very leftist. Tests were hard and were more gotcha questions than learning.
Tim is a very good professor. He is clear, welcoming of all opinions, and caring. Also, he adds in a lot of humor in his lessons which makes it fun. He wants to see you succeed. Go to his office hours, participate in class, keep up with the news, and interact with the prompts for the readings and you'll be good. I totally recommend him.
Tim is the GOATTTTTT!!!! I've never had a professor that's so respectful, caring, and funny at the same time. He really values each student and genuinely wants us to do well in life. He's unbiased and wants students to be comfortable sharing their opinions. You don't have to try that hard on homework to get a good grade. 10/10 would recommend!!
Participation matters, but a very understanding teacher. He takes his time trying to get to know where you're at in his class, and wants you to succeed. You have to initiate the conversation though, and show that you want to try. Material is intriguing, and he knows the subject well. Very respectful of others views.
Tim is an amazing professor! Before this class I had not taken any political science, but was thinking about it as a major. Now I am 100% sure that it's what I want to major in, and I am taking another class with him. He cares about the success of his students, and is thoughtful with his feedback. His lectures and assignments are thought-provoking.
The first day of school he posted every module for the quarter, which included assignments of about 1-2 hours of reading... A NIGHT and 6 discussion posts & journal write up that was due every week. This guy was also super inconsiderate with grading, and acts like no one has any other classes but his. Don't take his class if you value free time.
If you try and work ahead he gets mad. He gives way too much reading that is impossible to do. He grades harshly and will mark you down for reasons that you didn't know about before. He has a minimum word count on assignments but gets mad if you meet the requirement. If there's another teacher you can take, go with them instead.
If you're not willing to read for several hours outside of class, don't take this course. Tim is amazing - thorough, informative, helpful, accessible - but he has clear expectations that he outlines at the beginning (EVERYTHING is in the syllabus) and if you're not willing to work, it's going to be really hard for you to get the best grade you can.
I took POLS202 online last quarter and I was not a fan. You gotta work pretty hard for an A. The content itself wasn't too difficult but he assigns SO much work each week. I was spending hours every day reading super long articles and writing responses. It's like he doesn't take into account that you have other classes. So glad that class is over.
Tim Jones isn't necessarily a bad teacher, In POLS202 there's 5 discussion posts and a 300-word journal due every week. There's larger assignments such as short papers and a midterm and a final. People did not exaggerate when there's a lot of reading required. Estimate about 1-2 hours even if you're a fast reader. He doesn't grade too harsh
I have taken a couple of classes with Tim, both online and in person. He is a very helpful and accommodating instructor. Even when I took his online class I understood that he cared about my individual experience in his class and wanted to teach me something with value, not just facts to remember. His classes were life-changing for me.
I took this class online bc I thought I would be able to fit it in easier to my schedule, I was wrong. Don't take this class unless you have at least 4 hours every day to dedicate to it (including weekends). He wasn't that bad a guy but I was frustrated this entire quarter. I don't rec this class unless you really like reading political articles.
Be ready to read every week, I took a hybrid class. expect to type a 300-word journal every week due on Sunday, make sure you participate at least once a day. The professor is really nice and chill, but like the long lectures are boring in my opinions
Tim is a fantastic teacher, because he challenges his students and teaches them not what to think but how to think. This is my second class with him. He asks a lot from his students but he's willing to give the same effort. Do a little bit of reading every day and have original thoughts, don't just regurgitate. THIS IS NOT AN EASY A. Work hard A.
Professor Jones isnt a bad teacher but doesnt get the type of people who take online classes. For most people who take online classes its because they need to be able to be flexible with time. He didnt understand that at all and I had an incredibly tough time with this class. It was awful. So glad its over. Shouldve just dropped it.
This is not a class for people who just want the credit. Pick a different class. Tim is demanding, not unreasonable. He's very approachable. If you rise to the challenge by thinking critically & doing the work (SO much reading), you will get helpful feedback & great grades. Be present. Work hard. Don't give up. His classes will change your life.
Tim seems to be the real deal. The course is no joke and not an easy A, but if you are looking to major in Political Science this course is a prerequisite for most schools. It's clear that he put a lot of work into the curriculum and it's reading heavy, but it's interesting and useful material. Friendly and leaves great feedback!
Mr. Jones is a great teacher! He gave great feedback on each assignment we did. He gives reading/viewing prompts that are really helpful when taking the midterm and final. There is weekly journals on topics we learned, and participation from posting on the discussion board. 3 major writing assignments.
If you are someone with mental health issues or learning disabilities, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He is not understanding nor empathetic whatsoever, and his tough grading doesn't help. During a global pandemic, everyone is stressed out and feeling low, but he doesn't care at all. Please stay far, far away from this guy.
Without a doubt the WORST professor at BC. He gives out confusing assignments with very little information on whats exactly excepted from us, that being said the grading is still very tough. Save yourself from unnecessary stress and don't take his class!!!
Prof. Jones assigns A LOT of reading, but from varied and interesting sources, to deeply assess US government and where power lies. I took this class 2 quarters ago and still think about things we read or learned in class nearly every day.
Tim is the man. Got a terrible grade because it was my first quarter of college, but he is somewhere near the department chair due to his genuine wisdom and devotion to teaching. He's a little quiet, pretty serious, but a great educator with a good sense of humor. Wish I could have taken another course of his. Don't slack on the mid-term readings!
Truthfully the hardest class I've taken. So much reading & his feedback comes off as passive-aggressive. The workload for this class is equivalent to three classes. At least 5 discussion posts, side projects, read textbook & supplemental books, & weekly journal prompts. If you do take, please divide your week/time well. Midterm & finalLOTS of prep
This was the worst class I have ever taken. Test are extremely difficult and the amount of work for this course was absurd. There are five discussion posts every week in addition to an assignment that a hefty word count. If you need help or support he is unhelpful, condescending, and never gives you the benefit of the doubt. absolutely horrible!
A ton of reading. A lot of textbook purchases. Makes you pay for required films. Pretty condescending. Said explicitly "I expect you all to put in 10-15 hours of work per week on this class". Understates reading length and time (e.g. he'd put a 15-minute long reading at 4 minutes). So, probably more than 10-15 hours of work per week. Terrible prof.
GREAT PROFESSOR! don't know why so many people gave him a bad rating. his classes are so meaningful and beneficial. a lot of discussions and assignments. this class is not an easy A. if you dont have time then dont take this professor. I love political science after taking it with this professor. he helps in any way possible.
This was the worst class I've taken at BC. He expects you to put hours of time into this class every day, we would have 40+ pages to read, other content to look at daily on top of the assignments we have each week which made the workload near impossible. He's a super hard grader and his tests are 3 hours long. Save yourself and take any other class
he isnt a bad teacher but i wouldnt take him again. he is so strict and tough grader. take someone else besides him. his class is hard and he expects you to be the best at everything you do. he demands a lot of effort and time to everything. he isnt forgiving and is kind of rude. he doesnt understand that we have other classes not just his class.
Condescending. Asks for way more than that which is reasonable for a generic level-200 course. Demands a ton of reading and writing, and is a stupid-tough grader. Do not take any course by this professor, ever, if you have the ability to. Idk why his rating here isn't lower; id rate a zero if i could
Prof. Jones is very knowledgeable of the material. There is a lot of reading and writing but its easy if you pace yourself. This class takes a critical view of the government (left). There is a textbook, but ur asked to read outside sources too. You have to do 6 discussion posts and a journal (300 words)/wk. There is a open note final and midterm
Unlike other polysci teachers at BC that I have heard about, I was not downgraded for having political views that weren't far left, so that's a huge plus in my book. Professor Jones gives clear expectations that I followed and as a result was never surprised by my grade. Warning, this is a very difficult class for a high school grad requirement.
This class was super stressful at times and could be really overwhelming with the amount of readings and discussion posts. However, the assignments were clearly laid out and it was easy to understand what was expected of you. I did learn a ton and am happy I took the class in the long run.
The polisci course was ok. I probably wouldn't take the proff again bc he was a tough grader. For instance, I turned in an assignment near the end of the qtr exactly 5 mins late, thanks to the fact that my laptop didn't update with daylight savings. The professor requested an explanation and took off pts even after I explained the situation.
You will hear complaints ab the workload, but they are complaining that we have <60min daily readings, even though there are no 60min lectures taking that time instead. Study guide is word-for-word on the test, and your only hw is 5 weekly discussion posts (SAQ length posts). If you can't do simple hw assignments or tests, don't take Tim.
Tim is the best teacher if you are truly interested in political science and not just taking it for a grad. requirement. You do not just learn the basic fundamentals of the U.S. government but you get in touch with things deeper than that. As long as you're doing the daily work, it is impossible to get under an A! Tim really cares for his students.
I highly recommend Prof. Jones. He does give a bit more work but if you stay organized with your time throughout the week, its manageable. If you complete the assignments according to the description and put in the effort you'll receive a fair grade. He is always willing to help, replies to emails fairly quickly, and is very kind and understanding.
Tim assigns very engaging material and I learned a ton from his class. If you are interested in politics, Tim is a must take. He is super clear on his expectations, grades fairly, and responds quickly to questions. Just manage your time and stay on top of his daily reading prompts, he pulls from that for tests and weekly discussion questions.
I honestly do not think that many of the reviews I read before taking this class reflect my experience in POLS 202. It was a decent amount of work I would say but it was what I would expect a student in college to do. My political views did change and I learned about being a good citizen while respecting those with different views. Tim is great!!
When I mean the worst professor I have ever had I mean it this professor i thought seeing a 3.8 rating wasn't gonna be bad but he expects you to write 13 discussion posts 400 words each week. and that's only for 10 points... if you get behind you fail. super unclear with assignments and expects you to be doing homework 6 hours a day. never again.
Professor Jones is a good instructor and made political science easier even though we were asynchronous. But there is a ton of reading and it can sometimes be hard to balance that with other classes. Overall he gives great feedback on your papers or assignments and is a helpful instructor.
There is a lot of readings and discussion posts, but overall it was manageable because the content was interesting. Even if you aren't interested in political science, you would find most of the content interesting. My class was filled with high school students, and for most of us, it was definitely a challenging class.
Overall, learned a lot more than I was expecting to. This class is tough. You NEED to stay caught up in the course material or you will fail. Course material involves reading from books or articles from news sources. Then, you write about your opinions regarding the subject. 2 large assignments, but manageable. Midterm and final are intense.
Super nice teacher but the class is insanely work heavy be prepared
Professor Jones is awesome! He always gives great feedback and gives A to those who deserve it. One of the ways you can really succeed in his class (I took asynchronous online) is to answer every question in the prompt in tests/discussions/quizzes/papers. At first, it may seem a lot, but you will demonstrate to him that you learned and worked hard.
Political Science is a subject that many look over. This class was not only a well-structured class, but it also taught me many things to think about in real life. I highly recommend this professor. The assignments are listed by week. There are a lot of reading and discussion posts, as well as weekly journals. Amazing class and teacher.
Professor Jones the first very good friend, he understanding the students' situation, even you are not well English Speaker. He gave also chance work hard, and you can get A or B if you are working hard!!!
Not a very understanding person. Just know if your grandpa dies and you need an extension on an assignment, you will not get one and you're expected to turn all your work in. And once you reach the exams, be prepared for some extra stress as there is way too much course work to memorize in order to feel good about your answers.
Very caring teacher, answers emails on time and is willing to set aside time for individual instruction. Heavy course load but incredibly informative if you want to be more politically engaged. Easily a 12 hour a week commitment if you are thoroughly reading the material and preparing yourself for the midterm and finals- which are pretty tough.
Lots of reading to do every week accompanied by a minimum of 5 discussion posts every week. The midterm and final aren't too hard if you study for them a little. There is also an action assignment where you have to actually do something related to politics and you have to make a current events post once a week for one of your 5+ posts.
Must not know we have other classes cause this guy gives out tons of work. Get ready to drown if you have 15 credits in you're quarter. Dude does not even do lectures. Just links dozens of pages and videos to the daily work. Good luck trynna get ahold of him. Also super condescending announcements. Don't take this class if you have a disability.
A super nice and caring teacher is super careful to emphasize that you do not have to agree with him. Encourages discussion and disagreement, just wants you to support your answer as much as possible. Lots of reading but a reasonable amount of homework, provide a study guide for tests.
Lots of work and hard work to do. Struggle with keeping up so don't get behind and I had other classes and activities but no time for anything but AG.
Learnt a lot from this class. Professor Jones explains clearly on Americans politics and it's inspirational. He welcomes discussions a lot, even if you are on the opposite stance. Yet, A LOT of readings. You better read them all as they will appear on exams. Will give out review sheets (aka questions) before exams. Easy A as long as you spend time.
At least 5 discussion posts & 300 word journal entry weekly. There were 3ish major writing assignments over the quarter on top of the midterm and final. He is a fair grader although I would have liked more feedback on my papers. He also has extra credit opportunities. Very clear on deadlines and expectations over the quarter.
He gives a lot of work however if it is graded on completion as long as you follow the directions. For his tests, he gives you a good study guide. He is a fair teacher, and not a bad option.
Doesn't tell you how to get an A because you won't. Tests were too complicated and gave far too little time (6 hours is needed for the test he gives) harsh grader, hates cheaters, gives too much work, and you need text evidence for everything. Plan on working every day if you want at least a B+. The study guide helps, but he wants to see you fail.
~2 hours of reading that can be *mostly* skipped if you go to the "content overview" for each day's assigned readings and study for the key terms. Some questions on midterm/final are not on the study guide like who is holding *blank* position in the government, so be sure to be wary of that. Fairly easy A if you can write.
This class sucked the life out of me. For a generic 101 class we are expected to write 5 discussion posts a week and expected to read every day. I work 10-hour shifts five days a week, this guy has no idea what it's like coming home and having to think about his boatload of assignments. Oh, and he downgrades you if you submit everything at once.
Genuinely caring professor with a rigorous class. If you can write and care about polisci, I'd recommend it, as you learn a lot in this class. However, if you're simply taking it for the credit, take an easier prof, as this dominated my quarter. Really enjoyed the class however and would highly recommend if you're willing to put in the time.
An amazing professor. Not many professors these days will push you to always learn more. If you want an easy A, do not take this course, but if you really want to learn about political science and get great perspectives on citizenship, take this course. Prepare for a lot of homework and writing. He really tries to make learning fun with comics!
Terrible grader, not understanding, gives too much homework and can't seem to understand that we have a life outside of his class. Stay away from this class, save yourself from loads of stress and depression.
Every1 else hates this dude so i do too
Save ur will to live
For a 2 credit class, I had to work more than a 5-credit class. Lots of work, 3 quizzes, and weekly progress due every week. You have do 3 geographic quizzes until you get 90 and have to write about how you get a 90. Not helpful, does not answer your questions. Tough grader, grades without rubric. Save your time and avoid this class if possible.
dont take his class unless youre trying to tank your gpa
This class was extremely tough. I'm a known procrastinator, and usually I would blame it on that, but even without procrastination, I was screwed. There is SO much work with little consideration that one may be taking more than one course. Oral midterm and final that made even my mom go, "huh?" Feedback was thorough, but that's about it.
Looking for an easy A? this is not the class for you. I would say I spent 12-15 hours on this class per week. There are about 7-10 discussion questions posted per week. (required to do only 5) I recommend you do all of them. From someone who got an A on both oral exams (not open note), these discussion questions will be beneficial to look back to.
Gives fantastic feedback although there's a decent amount of work. He's always willing to meet online or in person to offer help which has been awesome. Lots of content to master though; if you do all the discussions past the required amount you'll be fine though during the oral exam
I'm neutral - ratings for Tim would depend on the person. I liked that Tim provided many resources available for us to help us. He was a good mentor and had in-depth explanations in his answers to those who asked questions. If you do the work and submit it on time, you will be solid. But some assignment expectations are not clearly communicated.
Way too much work and reading. Tests are through zoom and you have to schedule it. If u miss the scheduling time then u get a 0.. Not very understanding at all. If you wanna take this class you must have a lot of time on your hands.
Loved this class so much! Basically all that was required of you was that you showed up to class on time - which most students didn't do. The weekly assignments were fun and the final was easy if you did them. Overall, everything was communicated clearly and I was able to receive lots of helpful feedback!! I hope this class comes back in spring!
While this class was extremely time-consuming (expect to put in at least 10 hours a week to get an A) the class was led extremely well, with a variety of teaching content and assignments, which made it pretty enjoyable for the amount of effort required. He also answered emails very quickly and had excellent feedback on longer assignments.
He was a really nice guy but assignment were time consuming Readings- He really wants you to do them and expect like 10 hrs worth of them Homework- 3 discussion post 2 before the weekend Journal (300 word min) Participation- Look up a news story and readings b4 class easy points SHOW UP Exams - 2 writing assignments 2 oral exams
Expect to put in a lot of work, but the professor gives great feedback and is willing to help. Utilize resources like unstuck study alongside the course materials to stay on top of the heavy workload.
Lots of reading and watching documentaries outside of class. The textbooks are graphic novels, so it's not too bad. He has meaningful assignments and encourages people to participate in politics in the real world. I think every American citizen should take his class, or one that is taught similarly.
There's a lot of readings and they generally take quite a while to read. If you plan on reading all of them, great, it'll be hard to keep up. If not, you'll coast through as long as you have a friend who does the readings. He's a bit strict but he wants you to succeed. I learned a lot and really enjoyed this course. Two exams + weekly journals.
Awful would never take again
Honestly one of the best teachers I've ever had, his lecture style and the work he assigned really worked well for me and I got to participate a lot in class because others wouldn't. Participation is required and there's maybe 30 minutes to an hour of reading for each class, but its all fairly easy. Exams are on paper so that was meh but he's chill
Don't take this class if you want free time. Bored lectures would not recommend
you will learn A LOT in this class, but he is very strict/picky when it comes to grading. Weekly journal every week and a couple important essays. No rubric is provided but he gives great feedback. If you are looking for an easy A DO NOT TAKE THIS, if you want to learn and be pushed to ur best abilities I suggest. do the readings PLS.
If you want to get a good grade, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. One week, I counted 300-400 pages we needed to read... just for that week. At least 5 discussion posts per week plus a response, oral midterm and final, long assignments, 3 required books to read, keep up with news... it was insane. If you want to be challenged though, this is your professor.
This class makes you read hundreds of pages per week of sources with a clear political bias and very little diversity of opinion. Assignments are crafted just carefully enough that you can't easily work around them without reading every single piece of assigned material. If you work or have any serious obligations outside of school do not take.
he gave a LOT of reading material making it a VERY reading heavy class. required 5 discussion posts per week and one response to a peer. the midterm and final are oral interview exams no notes and there are multiple assignments throughout the quarter that are graded very harshly, you learn a lot but I wouldn't take another class with him
he gives so much reading, like at least 80 hours a week. He is a very tough grader, and i just dont like him tbh
Loved his class it's my first time rating. Gorgeous professor. Everyone complains about the readings but it's all themes covered in the lectures. Class is definitely for the critical thinkers, but he is welcoming of opinions and I can tell he really appreciates a student that challenges themselves. He is very charismatic and carries himself well.
Thinks he's a detective, hard grader, thinks students don't have any classes except his, terrible policy, doesn't appreciate research, doesn't update to technology (stuck in the 90s)
The assigned readings aren't enough to get you prepared for your final and any of your assigned projects
No joke, trashy experience in this class, too much stuff getting thrown towards you, don't take it if you're taking this class for credit. Also, he assigns stuff in the questions/exams but doesn't assign it in any of the readings or videos ON PURPOSE. not an easy class, the teacher tries his very best to FAIL YOU. Bad experience overall.
I was passionate about political science, but Tim Jones's teaching drained that enthusiasm. His class feels unmotivating and overwhelming. Anyone giving him over 3 stars seems like his alt accounts to lure more students. If you need this for credit, avoid it—he feels more like a barrier to success than a teacher. DAMAGES your GPA
Personally, I really enjoyed this class. The criteria indeed feel a bit unclear, but I loved how much critical thinking it required. Every week is also structured the same, so you always know what to expect. Looks like a lot of reading, but you don't have to do all of it, and it's only about 30 minutes worth each day max.
Soo much reading, And he expects you to read all of it. He will ask questions on it in class and the test. Also the reading and him are biased. Like we get it, you're a seattle liberal and you don't like Trump, can we move on? Would've given four stars if it wasn't for the bias. But He is open to opposing view points and his lectures were engaging
I have accommodations and worked with him a lot on them, he was great with them! As long as you are good at advocating for yourself, Tim is a good teacher. He very much gives you the tools to succeed but doesn't hold your hand. His office hours were really nice for *my* schedule and happened regularly. Just make sure you understand the material!
-complete 3 discussion posts (at least 2 before weekend) -oral midterm and final -weekly journals -late assingments 10% deducted by every day late -1 project -few smaller assignments (takes 5-10 mins) -one pass to get one-week extension for all assignments in week of your choice
If you care about your grade and/or freetime and mental health, do not take this professor. This man gives you 5 textbooks, and if they aren't available from the bookstore, he requires you buy them online (over $100 spent on this class). I have a stutter when I'm nervous, and he told me on my oral exam that I was just BSing him. Not understanding.
only thing is that he would say i used ai a lot when i didn't. but he gives good advice and involves you in class. attendance and participation goes towards ur grade. 2-3 major assignments and 2 exams (midterm/final) and 1-2 weekly assignments, one short journal and another assignment based on lectures or readings.
. I attended every single class, completed all assignments, and took every exam, yet I still failed the course just because of one exam grade. I put in real effort throughout the quarter. The grading system is harsh and doesn't reflect the work students actually do. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone who expects fair grading or support.”
Evil, absurd amount of work, expects you to be extremely passionate about what's being taught. The finals are 1 on 1 zoom meetings, each time I was met with the most condescending voice and attitude even though I did pretty good. The readings are typically scanned ancient books or that god awful Newman comic.
Nice guy, strict on using resources given in class rather than online. Summer quarter was good with him. Take another professor for an easy class because this was not very easy..
worst professor I ever had, worked more on his class than my core classes for the major...you'd think that would make me passionate about political science. It does not.
good luck getting an A
