Mahoney is the best, nicest, and helpful prof ever. He knows everyone it seems
Extremely helpful. Great instructor. He is very approachable.
Amazingly able to make you understand even if you don't have a clue coming into the class.
Great Teacher. Kind of hard, but interesting.
Great teacher an inspires students and great memory. A teacher who actually cares about students learning.
Always willling to help
Seems to have some sort of mystical power. He probably even knows who wrote this. One of few who relate to you at the individual level. The Best!!
Mr. Mahoney is the greatest man on the USI campus. He is the most down to earth and helpful man you could ever ask for. Excellent memory, excellent tips/skills, very helpful and understanding! You will not find a better advisor, anywhere!!
great
Excellent as a teacher and as a person. Very helpful and friendly. Cute too.
He's awesome!!!!!
Best teacher you can imagine having in college...an even better counselor! go to him when the rest of them screw up your class schedule, his office might look scattered, but he does the job great!
Going into this class I hated studying the Economy but he made it fun and interesting!!!
Awesome prof, very helpful, cares about his students, knows what he is talking about
Great professor, and a great person. Also an even better advisor. I even looked forward to going to class.
Best professor at ISU, knows everyones name and is always wanting to help. Best advisor as well, he cares about your future and is willing to help guide as best as he can. Good seed is he.
Greatest teacher ever!!!! He is so nice and helpfull, even when it has nothing to do with the class. He even remembered my name a year later after having the class!
good teacher. very easy to talk to. concerned about everyone.
Wonderful! Focuses on information pertaining to everyday life. Recommend this class to anyone, valuable information. Mahoney is smart. He knows what he is talking about.
There is not a nicer person or a better person in the world. Will do anything to help you in and out of the class room. I want to end up like this guy when i'm his age.
Great and funny man who knows how to get things done, quickly with ease. My favorite instructor.
Absolutely LOVE this guy! Never opened the book and got a good grade in the class. He is also the most helpful faculty member on this campus. Anytime I need help, I know he will do anything he can to help me. Highly Recommended!
Unexpectedly one of my favourite courses this term. Good man, helpful, and funny at times too.
You know, I've never had Dr. Mahoney, but I have yet to see a nicer person on campus. I wish I could have taken him, but as far as out of the classroom, he smiles and waves at everyone. The world should try harder to be more like Dr. Mahoney.
Mr.Mahoney is without a doubt the nicest, and most helpful person on campus. He helped me with a problem that had nothing to do with his class. His class is also a very interesting class. He has a great sense of humor, and seems to know everyone's name
this wise fellow is spectacular...he's my role model without even knowing it...he is the center of usi...we are just mere electrons floating around his positive energy...i love you mahoney
GREATEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! This is what teaching is all about. Strongly reccomend his class.
He helped me out so much when I was a first semester freshman. I missed my orientation day and he happened to be on campus. He got me in great classes and since then he has remembered my face and name. I dont know if I would have done as well as I did freshman year if it weren't for him. Thanks Dr.
Mr Mahoney is an absolutely fantastic person. He should be an inspiration to us all. how cool is it that he devotes most of his life to helping students make it in the real world. Mr Mahoney, your sincere devotion and unselfish kindness does not go unappreciated.
His class is very easy. You will not need the book, just read the handouts and it is an easy A. He is also an awesome advisor and he will remember you years after you have taken his class.
Dedicated to his job. Wished all profesors had the sincerity and concern for students. He comes to his job to make a difference rather than make a paycheck. Drop in for advising anytime.
His class is so boring, but it is very easy. He posts everything on blackboard. You do not need to purchase the book because you will never need it.
good prof
Mahoney is the best instructor I've had. He really focuses on the students and not just on reading out of the book and packin it up. He is by far the most helpful and definately the first to help someone out. Class is strickly notes but easy. Definately recommended.
Horrible Horrible Horrible. He says how if ever you have a problem to see him... I saw him 2 times and he wouldn't meet with me about any of my problems he said he was "too busy" and he wouldn't respond to emails until almost 2 weeks later, not clear on teaching or grading, tests are your main grad
Great prof and great person. If you don't like your advisor then see Tim, he will help you out.
One of the best teachers I have ever had.
He's my advisor as well as my econ prof. by far the best faculty member USI has. I transferred late and he went above and beyond to get me in the classes i needed and he'll tell you straight up how things are. He's very approachable and remembers everyone, i lucked out gettin him as my advisor.
super nice guy will go out of his way to help any student, not a super hard class either.
Never taken his class. However, he seems the most helpful professor at USI. Always smiles and greets. He was able to find solutions to my problems at USI.
Fairly easy class. Pay attention and do the assignments and a good grade is sure to follow. Mahoney makes economics very interesting. A very good class. I recommend it.
The class isn't the easiest, but Tim Mahoney is an awesome professor who definitely cares about his students. If you take Intro to Econ, I wouldn't recommend taking it with anyone else. This guy is the man.
Mahoney is the man! He will help you with everything. His class is easy and he makes it very interesting! To get a good grade study the practice test... thats it. I did that and pulled a B with no problem.
This man is a great professor and advisor. He does a great job explaining the material. If you need help, all you have do is go into his office. He genuinely cares about his students and his profession.
This guy is the best professor ever and if you need any advising help he is there for that too. I know alot about economics and he is a real funny guy too. Definitely worth taking his class
Willing to help anybody that is willing to ask for help. Is usually available. Great teacher!!!
Very helpfull if you fail this class it's your fault not his.
I don't think there is anything new to say about Mr Mahoney. He is one of the best teachers I have every had! He is willing to help anyone regardless of major. Everyone should take this class because everything he covers involves everybody in everyday life. It was very helpfull
Best teacher and person ever! If I ever win the lottery he too will be rich. Not just a good teacher, but also a great friend and adviser! He deserves a Bugatti Veyron, but probably drives an Audi or VW.
This guy cares about his job and will do anything to help his students. He is the only one at USI that seemed to realy care. He made a difference in my life. Thanks so much! Josh
Mr. Mahoney is nicest most helpful person at this university. He genuinely cares about the students and will help anyone at anytime. You could not ask for a better guy.
Hard class... a lot to know .. huge lecture class.. assigned seating.. he is good about helping you but there are so many students.... i just thought i was a difficult course because you had to keep track of ao many things... but now that i am done,, looking back it wasnt that bad... had to subscribe to the wall stree journal
Nice guy, very helpful. Kinda preachy, and class isnt easy. I didn't have an interest in economics (still don't) but he made it enjoyable. Gets angry at students (only the stupid ones) for disruption and disrespect. But overall he's a hell-of-a-guy, i would recommend him
There is no textbook to buy, which makes it hard on some people. The course material is basic, and you learned most of it in high school. He is a great resorce for guidence in about anything in life, including jobs, money, advicing. If you want to expand your economic knowledge, take another class, if you have to take the class, take Mahoney.
Mr. Mahoney was an excellent teacher! I would highly recommend this class & teacher to everyone. This isn't a typical Econ class. He applies current events and this course explains everyday consumer and financial topics we need to know to be successful in life. This isn't just a class to fulfill a requirement. The WSJ is used instead of a textbook.
very nice!!! Doesn't use a book, just the Wall Street Journal. Very sweet old man who makes Econ a little less painful to sit through.
awesome teach
No Comments
Totally sweet!!! He'll actually remember your name. Participate in class, and he'll actually thank you. No book, just the WSJ. BS homework that actually helps your grades. Tests aren't too bad if you study. Very very sweet. I'd def. take one of his econ classes again!!
I was so afraid of him at first. I thought I would never make it through this class..I know nothing about econ, but I think I am going to end up with an A or high B. He is a really good professor!! Study for the tests and attend class!! He REALLY IS A GOOD PROFESSOR!! I am tired of taking professor who slack ...HE is GREAT, but not extremely ha
Mahoney is the best professor and person at the University. He will not only help you with his class, but with your schedule. His office is always open and he is very approachable. He will know your name which is very impressive and makes you feel good. Take his class.
who doesn't love mahoney? such a nice guy, and a great sense of humor. he really cares about his classes and actually earns his paychecks. also, he doesn't hesitate to call out all the idiots who text and whisper through class, which is enjoyable for the rest of us.
He is a nice guy. He doesn't use a text book just the wsj and handouts. He spends a lot of each class addressing what is going on in the world that day. His class is pretty easy; not a lot of studying or homework.
If you do not understand econ, his 175 class will truly broaden your horizons. Being an econ major, i barely had to study for his tests to get an A. He leans towards the neoclassical school of thought, and also seems conservative. Warning, if you do not show up, you will probably miss assignments, which is his way of "taking attendance."
The best professor at USI, hands down. He is a fantastic individual who is passionate about what he does. Would that the other professors there were more like him; then college would be a truly wonderful experience.
Great professor! Take his class if you have even a slight interest in learning more about economics.
Very nice person. My father died at the beginning of the year, and he asked me throughout the semester how my family and I were doing. Class is a little hard, but if you study, you can get a good grade.
I have the intro to economics class with him. It's really easy, its everything I learned in my basic economics class in high school. Plus he is a really nice guy, and he's pretty funny too.
this class does not use a textbook which scared me at first but if you go to class and listen to him, you will do fine. his tests make you use the information. you cannot just know the material you have to be able to apply it to a scenario. I dreaded taking this class but I am getting an A and Mahoney is a great guy. TAKE HIM FOR ECON!!!!!
He's a nice guy and great teacher, I'd definitely take him again for any ECON class hands down.
If you don't absolutely love Mr. Mahoney, you probably shouldn't be in college, because this professor will do whatever he can to help you as long as you do your part. He is by far the best professor I've had and he is very wise. You can learn a lot from him!!
Mr. Mahoney is a sweet old guy. He is also my advisor as well for business. His class is all off of lectures and you will be required to write article entries off of the Wall Street Journal. I found the class a little challenging but if you really are struggling go and see Mr. Mahoney- He will sit down with you and work with you. :)
HERE IS HOW TO GET AN "A": Don't skip his class, sign up for WSJ, which he uses instead of textbook. Do the assignments. Study guides were pretty similar to the test. When you have an hour between classes, go to the library and read everything he posts on Blackboard. That's it! Two of my friends dropped and five got an A. I did too. Learned lots!
Mr. Mahoney is by far my favorite professor. He is the absolute sweetest old man ever and he will be sure and make you laugh. Tests are reasonable but you just have to go and listen to him! He is easy and fun .. and very very sweet!
Best teacher ever. Very clear explaining, and you never forget the things that he explains to you...By the way, he is the nicest helpful person I have ever seen.
Wonderful teacher and very sweet man. He has a dry sense of humor that is absolutely hilarious! Class very useful and pertinent to life. If you have to take Econ., take it with Mahoney!
One of the best teachers at USI. Level headed, non-emotional, clear and helpful beyond the 175 material. Take his course. Odds are if you don't care for it, then you might not like the awesome 4 year pursuit of knowledge/life that's ahead of ya!
very funny teacher. I would definitely reccomend tking his class.
He is always ready to help anybody who needs it (great adviser too). You have to order the Wall Street Journal instead of purchasing a text book, he gets you a discount. Very interesting class and man! Class is easy as long as you put some effort in. Take this class!
He is tough, when you go for help he is a type that will make you answer your own question. He is a nice guy, but his teaching is very boring and you do not have a text book to look at for review just a lot of notes that he just adds to every year instead of starting new.
Best teacher you'll ever have. really nice man, very professional. willing to help out anytime. very very smart. take his class!
If you can't wake up and make it to class 3 days a week do not take this class cause you will fail as I did three times and he is the only one who teaches it. He takes attendance almost every day and if you miss class you will not know when to turn assignments in. However he is very helpful and nice and will go out of his way to help you.
unclear on some things and seems to talk in circles but overall easy and interesting class. very helpful and takes late work.
Did good, took his FIN 101 Online. Answered my questions and th class was pretty good.
Mahoney is a nice guy, but his notes are very scattered and unorganized. While I did learn a good bit, there were a lot of things he wasn't very clear on. I wouldn't recommend this class to someone who likes missing or studies last minute. His version of a study guide is thirty pages of uninterrupted sentences.
Really liked this class. He obviously loves the topic, and is very knowledgeable in it. He's very helpful as well. However, he's not that organized and doesn't post grades.
What can I say? Anything that Mahoney touches is great. He really cares about his students both inside and outside of the classroom. This class should be a part of the Core Curriculum. Any student can acquire life-long skills from it and any student can learn a lot by taking this class and his ECON 175 course.
Great professor, I highly recommend Mr. Mahoney.
I'm gonna give my honest opinion here. He really is a great person that is more than willing to help students out. My issue with his class was his lack of organization. I really got lost during class since there was no structure with his teaching style. You have to print off his "notes" online and really study. Great guy, difficult style.
He has this way of teaching that is very confusing. His notes are not organized at all. It wasn't that hard but the test are hard when you don't understand his notes. There is no textbook use at all, just his notes
Very great professor. If you work with him or go to his office hours he clarifies everything he teachs. His worksheets are awesome and doesn't expect a textbook.
This class was an easy GPA booster. I actually learned some stuff from it though. Mr. Mahoney was very great about responding to my e-mails and was willing to set up an appointment with me at one time to go over material I had trouble understanding. Great guy, great class.
Handwriting is kind of bad but he his a great professor! Very funny and very nice! Review practice exams!! They are VERY similar to the hour exams and his favorite answer is B or all of the above! No textbook just notes so he saves you money, turn in all assignments and you study daily for exams and you will get an A!
I read other RMP comments prior to enrolling in his class and found many said he was disorganized. I never thought it could be as bad as students made it out to be but it was. It's hard to even know whats going to be on the test because of his lack of organization.
He is a wonderful sweet old man absolutely no complaints. Goes over the topics clearly. On tests make sure to understand the topics. He even has SI sessions before every test. No quizzes. No text book only need the Wall Street Journal which is only $15.00 but honestly don't get it. You wont use it.
His Personal Finance class was really long and drawn out and really boring. I did learn some stuff, but it was like pulling teeth.
Great guy! Helpful & caring. Despite previous reviews, you DO need the Wall Street Journal. He expects you to use it, you have assignments on it, GET IT. Tests are kind of tricky, but he is willing to help. Be ready to work. Come to class. Always there to help students or clarify. Desires students success! Puts a lot of time into class himself!
Professor Mahoney is a consummate professional who is always there for his students, even alumni. Take his class.
Super smart guy. Probably gives the best life advice out of anyone.
The Wall Street Journal is a must-have for this class. He gives practice tests for you to do at home, and if you pass those, you'll get bonus points on the actual tests. Made the subject easy and gave assignments that apply to real life (investing etc). As long as you show up, take notes, and follow the directions, you'll definitely pass.
His notes are awful, a mumbled word document of 1000+ words highlighted in an array of colors. Other than that hes a super caring guy. Very nice. Class is a little challenging though.
One chance for all assignments. Make sure you understand all math equations and terms.
The work is kind of tedious, but it is not hard at all. Very simple class, and you actually learn some important things if you do the work.
Professor Mahoney is honestly one of the most caring, welcoming professor I have ever had. His FIN101 class is very easy, despite there being a lot of work. He answers all emails and his class is very straightforward. I highly recommend Mahoney & FIN101 for those who are needed an extra cedit.
Professor Mahoney genuinely cares about his students. He is always willing to help in any way that he can, and is super accessible outside of class. His grading criteria are clear and he offers plenty of opportunities for extra credit. He is absolutely wonderful, 5/5 stars!!
Course was done on an outside program, and consisted of about 30-ish modules. Each module took about 15-20ish minutes to get through. Don't procrastinate this course. Takes long time to get through all modules, so pace yourself and do a couple every few days. Very very easy class.
Professor Mahoney's FIN101 is an easy yet informative course. The work can be tedious, but with resources like Unstuck study, study prep is a breeze. Highly recommend for an extra credit.
Best professor I ever had. RIP!
