Lectures are worthless. Anything you learn will be from tutor or book.
If you want to be a victim of Educational Malpractice sign up for this teacher.
Homework and tests are very difficult. Lectures don't help one bit.

Good teacher if student is willing to do his part
very poor instructor, doesn't care about students at all
has no care towards people
Don't take him. He is hard as ****. You will fail. I repeat you will fail.

he sucks... X, Y, and ZED... what is this French class
Just stay open to new ideas, visit his office, be nice and he'll b ur best frnd!

weekly quizzes. 4 tests. save some headaches and take someone else.
Nice guy, work hard!!!! and you will survive this class and learn a lot
Understandable teaching, but easily forgetable when test time comes. Study study
DO HWK, GO TO TUTOR ROOM AND YOU WILL PASS
took the class for two weeks and dropped because this gut is horrible
No Comments
Tests are fair, but homework takes forever.
take another professor if u can
Horrible. Test and quizzes not from hw problems. Class averages 4/20 on quizes
Work in groups, can't stress that enough. Quiz-test average ARE low, becareful.
He's not tough, he just requires you to know the material. Not to much to ask!!
tremendous knowledge of ode's and pde's. explains everything very well.
This guy doesn't know what Math is used for. Take M342A and B for the real thing
No Comments
he is horrible he needs to get over his website and help his students you get him flip him off and leave
He is very difficult to understand and not very helpful.
Goes through each chapter and the problems extremely fast. Take a lot of notes, but that won't help because his tests take forever with difficult, long problems... but he only gives you 30 minutes!!! I don't recommend him at all.
A little strange, British. do the HW and youll do fine on the quizzes. he grades real easy, so as long as you attempt a problem you get lots of points!
omg...very difficult teacher..doesnt explain anything well..quizzes every week.goes over every chapter extremely fast..do not recommend
Classes make you fall asleep at first, have to use willpower to stay awake. Quizzes every week, 3 midterms, cumlative final. Bad side: fast, hard to understand, explaining is terrible. Good side: C is a 60%, get pts for guessing/trying.
Super easy class, doesn't collect homework, class is boring and you can miss it because all his work is online. Best math 120 teacher. These other ratings suck, he is really easy
He is not such a bad teacher, he just goes really really fast. The best way to get an A in his course is to do all the homework (even though he doesn't collect it). 60% is a C, and he always uses homework problems on quizes.
Very confusing Teacher. Over half of his 200 students Fall 03', are failing his class.
Final was xtremely hard He isn't so bad but you MUST do hw (does not collect) attend ALL classes (learn more than just online notes) and STUDY. It is an extemely passable course. Weekly quiz based on hw, midterms (3) based on quizses, final on EVERYthing.
just do the homework. quizz problems are homework problems. quiz problems are test problems. test problems are finals. just remember that and u'll get above the 60% for a C. he's not that bad of a teacher, though he reminds me of Mr. Bean's brother.
This class is "rubbish" do not take him. Goes over own methods of solving problems so when you do the HW its super confusing. Quizes are hard. Test not too bad with A+. Finals super hard. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE.
this guy is hard because he teaches like everybody know what hes talking about. Almost half the class failed.
This is the worst professor at SDSU. Do not take him.
Extremely difficult. Pronounced "z" as "zed" it seemed to me. Obsessed with stapling the homework...
Good Teacher, he really wants you to learn. If you do the homework, you'll do well on tests and quizzes, which are very straight-forward. His grading is easy and he has a great accent!
Out of 45 people in the class about 38 people had F's up until the last week, that they all moved up to D-. The group final was easier then his final. His midterms are impossible and he never explain anything. His TA, Norbert, was a better teacher.
He's not a very good teacher. He expects too much out of the students, dont bother getting your hope on class curve. You better work hard to try to pass
this is insance. the seventh hightest grade in the class starts with a c. more f's than test. this is insane. terrible teacher and terrible grading. no curve no nothing.
I thought he was a great guy. I think the only reason people say he's a bad teacher is because it was a difficult class. He gave us so many extra credit opportunities and he really wanted us to do well. Just make sure you do all the work he gives out.
dumb. he is not a good math teacher. he is wrong when doing examples and he doesnt teach well. his accent makes it hard to understand and he puts random problems on the tests which we never learned. take a different teacher.
Do not take this teacher. He does not teach you anything. But he still expects you to know everything. Tests are impossible. Quizzes aren't that bad but there only worth 12% of your grade. STAY AWAY!!
i would rather hold hott coals against my geitals than have to take this teacher again. Do not take his class you will fail
Do ALL of the math homework. You will pass if you can manage to get a 60% on all of the exams. He's a really funny guy but a super harsh grader.
he's a super hard teacher. you should only take it if you can learn on your own. his test problems are the hardest test problems ever seen to man.
differential equations are hard by themselves so u need a good teacher who is gonna make this class easier and interesting, so dunster is not a guy for that, he doesn't teach good and he doesn't grade on a curve which is ridiculous
This is by far the worst math teacher I have ever come in contact with. Expect extremely hard tests that have little to no relation with examples done in class. The class average on the midterms and final was extremely low.
this class is only had because no one does the homework. all of you who failed are just lazy. i got a C+ and didn't try that hard. its easy to pass. his exams are straight from the homework. the final was pretty confusing. but we are in college u are supposed to actually work.
Quite possibly the most confusing professor at SDSU. I spent hours just trying to figure out what he was talking about in class. You WILL need a tutor if you take Dunsters class. He finds joy in failing as many people as possible.
This is a hard class. The tests come from the HW, but no notes or calculator during test (you can have notes during final, but no calculator). If you know your stuff, the tests are fair. Not an easy grader though, but he does try to help you. The final was very hard, even with notes.
Wow..surprised by comments. Thought he was a real straight-up dude. Makes calculus as interesting as calculus can be. Of course do the homework! I'm not a math person but the homework makes everything more clear. Plus, his Brit accent is a great way to start the academic day.
GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN!! I came into this class excited because I really enjoyed my other math classes (by the way I got straight A's in them). But not Dunster...I got by with a C and couldn't handle all the weekly quizzes + a 3rd midterm 3 days before the FINAL! RIDICULOUS!
Very tough grader, 5 question tests always altered in a hard way from HW. only 3 tests and doesn't drop one. VIP not to do bad on the first test. Do all HW, see tutor and attend A+. He will stump the best students. Came in with a 3.7, Junior, recieved my first C. very hard.
worst Teacher at SDSU. do not take him
Very bad professor.
Horrible... Puts the HARDEST problems on the test...Test only have 5 Problems, if you get one wrong you get a bad grade. Doesn't explain well at all, and expects that you know everything. Better know your BOX Probs. 60% is Passing.
worst professor i have ever had
here's an equation... DUNSTER=FAIL Math 120 is a really tough subject and Dunster definitely doesn't help. He's super smart but a horrible teacher. If you take his class you'll probably fail, definitely go with corey manchester.
took his class and failed .... took another teacher and never studied and ditched more than 1/2 the classes and got a B .......... He teaches good but grades extremely hard ..... would not recommend AT ALL
This is a very hard class no matter the teacher. Dunster makes the material as clear as possible and gives lots of examples (only very simple ones though). Tests are deff very hard. DO THE WEBWORK. he gave this to us as extra credit, and its just as helpful as the homework.
don't take this class with him! worst teacher!!
TERRIBLE!!! Ill expalin it for for all of you to understand. I went to talk to my counselor, and she told me that he has a 50% passing rate. 50% PERCENT!!!! DONT TAKE HIM.
The most difficult and hardest MATH 120 professor at SDSU. Wait 'til JOHN AVEN teaches this MATH 120 crap, he's gonna make it worse. YOU'LL SEE!!!
hey what are you talking about? he is the most clear and most amusing math professor i have ever had. explains math concepts with jolly good british humor. if you honestly try and attend class, perhaps you would actually learn it. Anyways i will admit he is a bit unconventional in his teaching, but that is the great thing about it!
Ok whoever just posted that last rating, you must just have a hard on for math. This guy is horrible! He doesnt teach the subject but instead rely's on the book and has wonderful Student Excersise examples. The class averages on my last two midterms have been well below 50%, so when the heck do you hold the professor accountable. Dont take him!
He's funny in a dry sort of way, but that doesn't tend to cut it when you're trying to learn math. Bounces all over the place in examples, and definitely doesn't do enough of them. Apparently the only way to get an A is to have taken the course at the community college level.
Worst math teacher I've had! He makes it seem like the curve is generous but it's not. The first two exams are do-able but the third one is a killer and forget about the final! No notes( except on final but doesn't help), no calculator. If you know a good tutor then take the him if not avoid!!
He is a good Professor. I also at first went to lecture and thought he was speaking chinese but math sometime take a series of steps to understand. But if you look practice problems before going to lecture you will see how clear he is at teaching the subject. That's what I did and I earned an A. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Unfortunately, he is as bad as the rumors make him out to be. Unfortunately, he is also as bad as any of the other Calc2 teachers. Even if you are good at math, you will be scratching your head 9 out of 10 days. Luckily, the homework assignments are pretty easy, he grades on a curve, and he has a ton of EC. So your grade evens out.
this class is abit dodgy and bobs your uncle.. i dont want a cup of tea learn to teach and we understand u like beer =]
I was told complex variables was a beautiful and elegant subject, with the right teacher...which Dunster is NOT. Terrible teacher, lectures straight from xerox copies of the text book. The average on the final exam was 33/80. Curve or no curve if your class is walking away understanding 41% of the material, you have not done your job. Disgraceful
Psst. It's college. It's supposed to be hard. You're supposed to think, not complain about a prof that asks you to do some work. Bunch of farking whining babies! Dunster is hard, yes, but should he dumb down the class for you losers? No!
Dunster was a great calc two teacher. He moved a little fast in the class but going to the break out sessions helped so much. He was always willing to answer any questions students had. His tests were pretty basic. He did not try to confuse you. I would definately take this professor again.
i am now repeating calc ii for a third time, i was forced to repeat for the second time with him, i went insane. He has no quizes which doesn't prep you properly, and his teaching skills are non-existant. He's a horrid professor.
i really liked the way dunster taught. he spent most of the class time doing examples. you cant expect to do good in calc ii if you are an idiot. but if you enjoy math and put a little bit of effort then you'll do good. bloody lorries...
Got an A. He makes rotating volumes more complicated than it should be.His midterms aren't bad(commone final is worse),if you have to make them up, they're more difficult. He's not bad, not great. Not great with questions.Best advice:go to TA(huge help),go to class and study by redoing problems.
Dunster is a great professor. If you do not understand something he will do a problem a different way to help you understand and he will continue to show you examples until the problem is clear. He does not take attendance but going to class helps a lot with exams.
Very reasonable and kind grader, good teacher w/ funny dry sense of humor. This is a very difficult class regardless of who you have. Dunster makes things as clear as possible, but if you don't read the book and practice / do your homework you're not going to understand anything in this class. He mainly does examples, too, which is a plus. =)
The class is pretty challenging but if u really apply yourself and have good study habits, you'll make it. He's easy to understand but occasionally, he goes off on a rant and everyone gets lost. The homeworks are ALOT, especially the Wiley Plus ones, and he has the worst T.A. graders ever. They'll mark you down for everything in the homework.
I thought english accents were suppose to be jolly, but his was pretty monotone. His class was pointless. He just did equations on the board and didn't explain much. Tests were hard, but the final wasn't even his!! I completely failed the final because it wasn't anything like his tests.
Dunster is a good professor, but expect to work hard in his class. Study the math finals available from the math department page for both the regular exams and final, and be sure to do your homework! Overall Dunster is a pretty chill guy.
HORRIBLE teacher. Did not learn a thing in his class (guess thats why I failed, but half the class is with me on that). Could not understand him when he tried to teach and covered his examples on the board with his body so you can't see his steps just the final answer. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES.... he is kind of funny though.
If you do your homework and practice problems you should be just fine.
Hard tests, A lot of homework... Good Professor...
GREAT PROFESSOR! HE IS VERY CLEAR...LOTS OF HOMEWORK BUT IT IS WORTH DOING.
Good Teacher. Helps students a lot and tries to make the class enjoyable. Has homework that is due weekly but it helps a lot because test questions are just like the homework. If you do the homework weekly and pay attention in class you'll do just fine.
Dunster is a great teacher. He offers lots and lots of examples that help to reiterate and apply what we've just learned. He goes over the homework and feel free to ask him any questions.
Difficult class. I loathed it, really. But he's a pretty nice/funny guy who seems to teach the subject well. Getting a C is mostly my doing but I do wish he'd given some leeway on grading, especially on hw. Go to lectures, pay close attention, & practice the hw.
If you actually want to pass calc 2 take Dunster. HW is 25 percent of the grade, and he gives up to 5 percent extra credit. You only need a 60 to pass. If you do the homework and Extra credit, you can fail every test and still pass the class. He's a cool guy too, very clear and concise. Box your uncle.
Dunster was good for 151 but for calc 3(252) he blows, and hard. the online homework he uses is hard as hell and doesnt reinforce learning, but makes you frustrated, and he teaches all theory and barely does any examples. Very hard class the way he taught it. He has become a very lazy professor...get over the budget cuts man, and do your job.
Dunster's class is pretty hard unless you are 1) really good at calc, and 2) willing to spend hours and hours doing the hw/studying it for the tests. His A range is good (and 85 is an A), but unfortunately you need a 80 to get a B. I bitterly got a C+, but calc is very hard for me. i'm just glad it's over.
Very clear and always helpful in office hours. His tests are pretty straight forward. If you understand your homework you will do fine on the tests. I would take a class from him any day.
Professor Dunster was great! I really think I learned why I was doing the things I had been taught to do to solve PDE's before the class. The class is not too difficult if you do and understand the homework because that is directly where the tests come from. He is a ton of help in office hours! I would definitely take him again
Would stay away from this teacher at all costs, i had him in the fall, lets just say many people were getting course forgiveness for this class. Teaches theorems more than the basic we need which makes it harder to understand if you don't know calc from high school
This guy is legit. Took summer session, and the hardest part of the class was waking up for his 8am class... but teaches great with plenty of examples. And offered help when you needed it in his office hours. Reviews for test before and is very helpful on what is actually on the test.
He is a great teacher. If you complain about him good luck with Gevechi! I wish I would have taken him for 252 :(
Cool guy. Tells you the exact type of problems that will be on the test. Some of the tests were kind of long though. If you buy WileyPlus, it comes with an online textbook but he won't tell you that. I recommend not buying the textbook if possible.
Dunster was a great teacher, always had good examples and were similar to the ones on the tests, but the tests themselves for me were challenging.
Really great guy. Attendance is not mandatory for large lecture. The homework can be time consuming but make sure you do it. He tries to give you the best grade possible at the end with different scales that work to your advantage. Would definitely recommend.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!!! His examples are horrible, he backtracks, skips steps, and talks about stupid irrelevant parts of the problem. Doesnt respond to emails, many of his examples dont help with the HW either. Had to go to his TA's to understand the material
This class is SO HARD. not only because its a HUGE class, but he goes over problems SO fast and the exams and homework are way more complicated then what he goes over in class. Going to class helped me a little, but YOU NEED TO READ THE BOOK. Went to TA for all homework. You will not survive will not survive without your own hard EFFORT!
This class was beyond challenging. goes over previous assigned homework problems fast in class. The additional homework is done through wiley plus and is extremely difficult and has many errors when trying to input an answer. The test are very hard and even A+ review doesn't help because you dont know what will be on the test. AVOID THIS CLASS!!!!!
Attendance isn't mandatory but I would suggest it. He explains the problems step by step and is happy to answer any and all questions. If you miss class, he uploads the class notes to Blackboard. The tests are really hard, but he gives partial credit for questions so show your work!
Sometimes not clear on explanations. Hard to keep awake in that class.
Dunster isn't the clearest professor in Math, and he sometimes confuses students by skipping steps and backtracking. He does respond to emails and tries to help that way, but his lectures can steer someone in the wrong direction. The WileyPlus hw is somewhat difficult, and it can be purchased on its own w/o going to the overpriced bookstore.
Worst teacher ever!! Expects way too much. Tons of homework and tests are impossible. Take Manchester if you need this class. If you are not already good at math you will most likely be taking this class again if you take Dunster. Good luck!
This class is a joke. For the first 9 weeks, we did algebra! The last chapter we did was also algebra and he didn't even include it on the final! The only calc we did in this class was derivatives, antiderivatives, and integrals. The hw is time-consuming. He curved the class and everyone failed the second midterm but I still got a good grade.
like his decent british accent. the material is hard, however, Prof. knows what he is really teaching, he explains well. take it
Teacher expects you to teach yourself out of a poorly written textbook and tutoring offers little to no help at times. The class is only offered online at State so I recommend that you go to a community college and take this course as you'll most likely learn more from their than from this class.
Worst class ever, it is all online and you have at least a thousand extremely hard and unclear problems to do. not to mention there are no lectures, just links to youtube videos. Dunster doesnt teach and I didnt learn anything. Try to pass the Precalculus proficiency test, it will save you so much stress and time
I loved math before taking this class, now I don't. Dunster doesn't teach and reluctantly replies to emails. Overall the class is just poor. If you do all the problems and get at least fifty percents on the tests you can pass, but the tests are very hard. Tutoring is not helpful at all. A room full of students one upper level student not helpful
Nice professor and always in a good mood. Cant understand what he would teach us with his thick accent. The material he lectures is irrelevant to the WileyPlus homework. Basically I learned by reading the book. He confused his students by showing examples instead by going through the steps.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. It is honestly the biggest joke of a math class ever. It's an online class and is structured horribly. The book is not helpful at all and the examples online are the same exact ones in the book!
Material is not to hard to begin with but Dunster is a horrible lecturer. He tries but has a thick accent and only goes over a few easy problems then gives homework on hard problems. His exams are nearly impossible and are problems we rarely did or extremely hard versions of ones we did. If you take this class, you should get a tutor.
This class was horribly structured. You never even meet the professor, you have loads of online hw every week, he offers tutoring but every time I went the tutors weren't too helpful, tests are fill in the blank with many complicated problems. Ridiculous for a subject that shouldn't be too bad, and I'm pretty sure half the class failed the course
I never missed class and I tried my hardest on the online homeworks, midterm, and final. I ended up failing the class. The tests had about 12 questions each so pretty much you can't miss any. If anything, you have to teach yourself. I will be taking course forgiveness along with ALOT of other people.
I hate this Class. You never meet the Professor, The Videos do not help, the TA's do not help, no one knows what they're doing and it just straight up SUCKS. I lost my appetite and interest in math in 11th Grade, but now I'm done with it. I hate math. Engineering will be difficult, but math is NOT helping the situation at all. I'm DONE with this.
So bad. All online and you only meet once a week. The TA's don't reply to emails and you don't learn anything.
Horrid. Simply horrid. What would have been a simple subject and class is very poorly done. The online course is completely useless, and there is no chance to retake a midterm even if it conflicts. I do not recommend this course in any way, shape, or form. SDSU has to get its act together, as I am already close to transferring schools.
I have never before in my life taken such a horrible course. There isn't much else to say beyond that.
This is the most defeating and terribly structured class I have ever taken. I am livid that I am paying full price for this awful class. I am very good at math and took calculus in high school and I am struggling in this course because of the confusing and ridiculously lengthy assignments. Embarrassing for a state university.
By far the worst class I have ever taken. I have never struggled with math. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
what ever you do.. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. it is impossible to pass unless you teach yourself everything. TAKE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE! don't take it from duster. it is the hardest class ever
WORST CLASS EVER! All work is done online through wileyplus and the class meets once a week where you have a quiz and the ta goes over pointless problems. 2 midterms and final are impossible and open-ended with no credit for work. book or homework is useless. you're basically on your own. don't take this class!
Speeds through the material to cancel class on fridays, not going over homework or answering questions. Only allowed calculators on the first test, says the material should be easy enough to do in our head he has the TAs write the test for him so he wouldn't even know. Doesn't show up to tests or know how they went. I would not take him again.
This course needs to be ended by SDSU. The worst class I have ever taken in my life. Defeating and unhelpful. This is no way to run a class.
The most arrogant and unhelpful professor I have ever encountered. Every question is met with an answer of "it's been gone over," or "you're not doing it right." The TA's are trying their best I know but it isn't as it should be. Do not ever take a Dunster class.
Worst math class to take my first semester of college. Took calc in highschool and understood the concepts but this class was still hard. Don't take this teacher. The tests were hard with no calculator. Only has three midterms and the final. The tutors are helpful for the homework and have review sessions before the tests.Dont take!
DO NOT TAKE MATH141 WITH DUNSTER! He doesn't even teach the class, and has incompetent TA's that do not really teach, rather just do problems on the board with little to no explanation. 98% self taught, horrible online homework system that doesn't work a lot of the time. Horrible hybrid class system, avoid taking with Dunster at all costs!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. If there is ANY other professor you could take for math 141 do it. He fraction downs the total points that way he doesn't have to round up. TAs try but can't teach very well. Literally the worst instructor I've ever had. P.S. WILEYPLUS is a joke.
Avoid this class at all costs! He goes over easy problems in class but test/hw problems are super hard. His tests only had 10 questions so you really can't miss any.
All I can say is… the worst Mathematics instructor I have ever had. You have to learn the material on your own. His video lectures do not help at all nor do the TA's.
Its a MWF class, but you only have class on F when there is a midterm. 3 midterms, one final. He lectures MW, take down all his notes. He has online wileyplus homework. If you don't understand it go see his TA's, they are incredibly helpful. If you put in the effort to see his TA's and do all the homework your'e guaranteed an A. 86%=A-
WORSE class I've taken at state!! You basically have to teach yourself through the book and the internet. It's about 5 hours per week of math hw through wileyplus which is useless. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE!
Must rely on yourself to learn the material. Tests are the same as the online Wiley hw but w/ different numbers. However, he randomly selects about 10-15 hw q's so you're forced to try to remember how to do every single hw problem (a lot&lengthy). Getting 100% on all your wiley hw is your savior as I went from an A to a B- when failing the final.
I've never been so defeated by a math class in my life. I have to retake the course, because the tests were unreasonably hard. I have to admit the lectures were pretty funny, but my failing grade is no joke.
Calc. 2 is a hard class no matter what professor you have. The key is grinding problems for hours and hours. Dunster did his best to explain the material but ultimately its up to you to practice on your own time. Tests were pretty hard and went beyond just basic concepts. The class really taught me how to think and see math in a different light.
I knew going into this class that it was going to be really hard. I was right. Dunster is a good professor, he's lectures are clear and he does lots of examples. Be warned that his tests are really hard and his grading is tough too. His TA (Shelbi) was awesome though and she saved my life. This class required a lot of time and studying so be ready
Do NOT take this class. If this is the only teacher available, wait for another semester. If you absolutely need this class, take it at a community college. Dunster will not help you. You will not even see him. He will not teach you. He will expect you to teach yourself with the useless textbook he picked out. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Wait until another teacher is available. This teacher is an absolute joke - you will never see him. His videos are unclear and unhelpful. Take this class at a community college if you can. WileyPLUS is also not a good program. The TAs can only do so much. Guy is an awful teacher.
This whole class is a joke. You will never see Dunster unless you watch the videos. WileyPlus is ridiculous and pointless. If you don't need this class, I warn you, STAY AWAY. Do not waste your time. The TAs try but you have to go to office hours to get a good grade.
RIP SDSU student life. This class was offered online and I had trouble understanding the material. TA's were okay. I recommend to take this class in a community college.
This class was a Joke. I never saw this professor once in person. He did not administer the test, and made his TA's do all the work. The only time i actually saw the professor was his picture on the math web page, or his hands doing problems in a video. Terrible teacher hard tests, and nothing you can do about it. He doesn't even have office hours.
He never comes to class, gives hard tests and demand for the homework to be done and in the end doesn't add it to your grade.
You will never see Dunster, the TA (Eric Proffit) was helpful in most questions but at the same time had no guidance from Dunster either. Proffit did the best he can in helping the class with both the material and questions regarding grades and quizzes but other than that i wouldn't recommend Dunster.
This class is an absolute failure, don't take this class unless you're ready to fail, however, if you insist, make sure to take creditno credit in order to preserve your GPA because passing this class with more than C required a miracle, the class has no proper study guid or anything similar, only homework and a strong luck will help
You will never see Dunster! You better hope that you have a good TA ( not Natalie) otherwise you'll fail. The online homework system is flawed and STUPID! The method of teaching is not helpful and is unclear. There are practice tests given THANK GOD because otherwise you will fail. Get another professor, because anyone is better than him.
All my tears!!! This is the first time a math class has beaten me. NOTHING is taught in class- only examples worked on the board. Go ahead and ask questions, but don't expect to learn what all the new terminologiesprocesses are. Week 10, after 45 minutes trying to solve ONE sine problem which I used to know, I decided I need course forgiveness.
Class for me was very easy. A at the end of the course, the midterms are very easy (TA's send out old midterms which are 90% similar to the one youre about to take) WileyPlus is my only complaint. B+ on my final exam with little studying. PUT IN THE TIME TO STUDY AND YOU'LL BE FINE. There is no reason precal should be as hard as people say
He was great, really helpful and a quick at responding to email questions. Also a very understanding guy. i loved this class, because the way he taught it. His lectures and examples make problems clear. Written homework due every Thursday about 3-4 questions not to hard. Wiley plus due every Saturday which was a pain. But in the end very happy
Math 141 is a hybrid course. The homework is all online. It's called Wiley Plus, and it's a hassle sometimes. If you do the online homework, you will do well on tests, since the problems from the homework are like the ones on the test. You take two midterms and a final. I found the class easier though I worked pretty hard. This class is curved.
He have specific requirements for homeworks and sometimes it is annoying but after a while you will get use to it. The exams are not too bad, do expect a final. And I really enjoy the way he write his notes.
one of the worst math teacher
The class is the delivered just the way a Math class should be delivered. Dr. Dunster is a great professor and really knows how to teach. One of the greatest professors I have ever taken, if not the greatest.
Dunster is a solid choice for 337. Lectures are super organized, examples are relevant. Written hw due mid-week, Wiley hw due on Sat. WILEY IS A PAIN. He is super helpful/friendly in office hours and doesn't get frustrated with you if you aren't getting it. Exams are based off of hw (no surprises). Put in the work and you'll do well.
Nice guy, but really horrible at teaching and you essentially learn nothing. Makes his tests as if he actually taught as well. I wanted to cry everyday. Only reason I made it through this class is because of YouTube and amazing friends who stood by my side. Please avoid him, I never want anyone to go through the struggle I went through. :(
Great professor! He's funny and keeps the class entertained. Keeps your focus but teaches fairly quickly so pay attention. Makes complex math very understandable. Homework is only a few problems and is fair. Study the homework and you'll do well on the test. One of my favorite math professors at SDSU for sure! Take him; his class is amazing!
He's a great lecturer. The hardest part about the class was finishing the tests in 50 minutes. The questions aren't tricky, just long. He gives a lot of partial credit though, so if you can get through the homework you should be able to pass pretty easily.
Complex Analysis is not an easy subject, that being said I believe he attempted to make it as easy as possible(Topics covered on exams/homeworks). Only 2 exams which account for 40% of your grade with a final counting another 40% so if you eff up on those your gonna have a tough time in the class. Stick to the homework, attend class, READ!
I missed a few of his classes in the middle of the semester and the difference was clear. His lectures were very in depth, well structured and easy to understand. Math 151 can be a hard course, but showing up to his lectures and completing the web assign is makes it conquerable. He does have pop-quizzes and clicker questions. Do not skip lectures.
Calc 3 is pretty difficult, but he explains the concepts clearly and does examples. He is also pretty funny. Lectures are not mandatory except for weekly quizzes and TA sessions. Take him for Calc 3 if you can!
This class tanked my gpa. I made the mistake of missing some lectures and activities after the first test and made it impossible to catch up. I am pretty sure im going to fail this class unless a miracle happens on the final. His lectures are not that helpful and it shows when only 20-30% of the students show up on days where there is no quiz.
Quizzes every week on questions pulled straight from the homework. Lectures are pointless, but TA sessions helped (Ferrante). I spent a ton of time in the MLC solving the HW problems over and over to prepare for quizzes/tests. Drops 2 quizzes if you attend the TA sessions, and a small bit of extra credit for homework grade. Tough class.
Lectures are really boring, but I would still recommend going. Weekly quizzes force you to stay up-to-date. The quizzes are straight from the HW. The concepts are difficult and I found my small section instructor (Ferrante) helping the most. You will need to study a lot for tests, they are not easy. A lot of partial credit is given on problems.
Lectures are pointless but attending the small section is crucial. The weekly quizzes are tough but they somewhat prepare you for the tests. The test require a lot of preparation and even then the grades aren't pretty. Lectures are worth skipping, but small section is not. Don't slack off in this class, it's tough.
This class does not reward you for learning the fundamentals of Calculus 3. Instead, you need to learn how to do the homework front and back. Each test and quiz just has problems from the homework. Homework is a weekly 30 problems. Lectures are only good for knowing what content will be on the homework. Taught myself the entire class.
Weekly quizzes are assigned. Class does not test general understanding of topics, rather the material on quizzes and tests are random problems straight from the homework. Lectures are pointless, he just reads off a bunch of slides and does zero live math or examples. Study the problems on the homework more than anything else.
Be prepared to teach yourself calc 3. Weekly quizzes. Because you teach yourself the material its going to be very time consuming. Its really difficult when the material is read of slides. No live math.
Yes, there are a lot of quizzes. Yes, your quiz average will be abysmal. However, although this class goes faster than all the other calc 3 classes, the exams are very surface level and graded quite easy. For the final he gives an equation sheet with every single equation, which is a complete lifesaver. Just do the homework and go to small section.
Just read out of the textbook. Barely gave any examples in class. The good part is the quizzes, exams, and finals are literally just problems copied from the homework.
His lecture are literally from the textbook but in printed PowerPoints (you'll understand if you take the class). As a prof, he's not the worst, but also not the best. The lectures are very boring. But on the other hand, the quizzes and midterm questions are based off the homework and the homework problems are fairly straightforward.
Avoid at all costs. Terrible at lectures and reads right out of the book. Practically no example problems. And he prints his power points with screenshots from the textbook and projects it during class. My math prof. while studying abroad who didn't speak English in class was better than Dunster.
Lectures are not useful, since he only reads from the book and examples are print out. Quizzes and tests questions are exactly like the homework, so I recommend doing the homework early and practice the problems many times. Basically, you learn everything on your own. Get ready for heavy assignments.
This Professor is horrible. NEVER TAKE HIS CLASS ESPECIALLY FOR HIGHER LEVEL MATH COURSES. All Professor Dunster does it print pages from the textbook and read them off during lectures (TB is horrible). Not only that, the examples he shows do not correlate in difficulty on the tests. Be prepared to cry during your tests.
He doesn't seem to care about students learning or passing because his lectures are horrible. So stupid to watch a video of him reading power points he printed off from years ago. I could learn better if he just actually posted the slides. Had to teach myself everything. Missing one quiz or not doing well will fail you because he doesn't drop any.
Wasn't a very inspirational professor but he is a solid choice. Homework due weekly and a quiz every Friday. The 2nd and 3rd (Final) midterms were much harder than the homework so beware. A nice guy with organized lectures even though they didn't always match up with the homework for that week. Would be better to take it in person.
Took him twice, once in person and then online. Didn't make a difference as he is not very good. He must've had a huge curve bc I'm not really sure how I passed. Bc of COVID tests are done over zoom with a proctor which was a disaster. His class was straightforward but seemed unfair as there wasnt much leeway. You WILL have to teach yourself.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! The class is made up of quizzes and Webassign HW. He cant teach, he reads off of printed textbook pages instead of working out problems instead. The quizzes are extremely difficult and do not reflect the material covered on the HW. Despite the low quiz averages, he does not curve final grades. Take this class at a CC
Very condescending. Does not explain well at all. Don't take him.
His lectures do not provide anything supplementary to the material we are supposed to be learning. The homework teaches you more so than he does. That being said, when the test average is a 50%, it is hard to attend a class where the professor doesn't acknowledge his own responsibility for a low class average.
Professor Dunster has very good and organized notes and good structure but he's a poor lecturer. on average, less than 50% of students show up to lectures. He's generally strict and makes me feel uneasy. He's a brilliant mathematician but doesn't really teach well at all.
One of the worst lectures I have ever seen, sure Complex Analysis is hard I get it. But you dont even allow notes when most of this class is theory. I have never seen a teacher whos students get average test scores of 50% most of the class will barely pass if that. If you can avoid him please do and run. Take any other class besides Math 532.
Lectures are pointless, the amount of homework is ridiculous, and the way he grades in unfair. Take someone else if possible
He is a poor lecturer and lectures consists of textbook screenshots. We had 3 exams and a final and the average for all the exams was 50%-65%. He only offered test corrections once. We had 2X the amount of hw as other classes. It was just not fair how much harder calc 3 with Dunster. Please take another Professor. My first C+ in my life.
AVOID HIM! Dunster is awful, he only lectures off of Powerpoint screenshot slides from the textbook and doesn't solve any problems live. The lectures are a waste of time smh. He assigns too much homework (30+ problems w/multiple steps) and he is a harsh and unfair grader. I have never had a positive experience with a Calc professor at SDSU :/
WATCH MIT Opencourseware Multivarible Calc 18.02. This is the only way you will pass this class. The lectures are terrible and I stopped going after doing poorly on the first test and I come from getting A's in previous Calc. You have to teach yourself everything so watch the MIT lectures because they cover content in class at the same rate.
Stay away, he is horrendous! His lectures are useless, all he does is read off PPT slides from the textbook publisher. He does not take responsibility for his awful teaching as exam averages are usually between 40-65%. His grading on exams is harsh and unfair so good luck passing this class. He doesn't care about you or your grades, avoid him!!
I am a math major but I have never struggled this much in a math class in my life. Professor doesn't put effort into this class. Tests are very hard and the midterms + final are worth 80% of your grade. Homework takes me 3+ hours. TA sessions were useless. Nice guy just lazy. Basically teaching myself
He is the worst professor I have had at SDSU. You have 10 homework assignments that are very long and don't count for many points, your grade is heavily based on tests, which he grades very hard. He doesn't teach, he uses screenshots from the book which don't help at all. Take another professor unless you want to fail and have to retake this class.
He does not teach at all, only reads the equations on a slide. The tests are hard you have to have every equation memorized (except for the final). The only reason I didn't give him one star is he takes the test questions from the web assign so there are really no surprises. Although that's a lot of content to choose from because the hw is long.
Dunster is not a good professor not only in terms of actual teaching but also in the respect he shows his students. I took calc 2 over the summer and all quizzes were held on gradescope at 8 am. For some reason one of my quizzes didnt submit and despite me having proof of completion he didn't give me an ounce of credit.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. The class is made up of exams, HW, and a final. His teaching is terrible, he just reads off of printed pages from the textbook and calls it a day. His grading is harsh and he barely offers any partial credit. His lack of compassion for students is reflective of the math department at SDSU. Avoid him smh.
People hate heavy on him but he's not the worst. He's pretty good at explaining things imo but is pretty boring to listen to. He does just read off slides and solves examples in front of the class but that's kinda all you can do as a calc 2 teacher. we had class mwf and he always went quick to get friday off which was chill.
He only reads previous year's slide decks in lectures, and goes so fast that you are unable to write down his information. The only reason I received an A in this class was from watching "The Organic Chemistry Tutor" on YouTube. Please take another professor.
Professor Dunster's MATH252 class is brutal - lectures are useless, homework is excessive, and exams are unfairly graded. However, unstuck study was a lifesaver for study prep. Still, best to avoid this professor if possible.
He doesn't teach at all everyday he just stands there and reads of the slides no examples or anything just reads off of it I don't even go to the lectures because my time is better spent watching videos on the topic that will actually teach me unlike him if you unfortunately have him get a friend and go to the library and study it's a lot better
I strongly recommend avoiding this class. The teacher just reads from slides, making it hard to follow or stay engaged. There's little explanation, so if you're struggling, you're on your own. Exams are extremely difficult, and many students fail. For a better chance at learning and passing, choose a different instructor.
Quick notes: 1. Professor is nice, but the dull voice and reading off the slide deck overshadows the teaching experience 2. I end up having to reread the lesson and not learning anything from his class Overall, MUST lock in and understand the concepts in the hw to obtain a good grade (It's what I'm doing rn)
Lectures are very boring and not engaging because all he does is read off the slides. He works on problems with himself and does not consider the class. He can be goofy/funny and is a good guy just not a great professor.
The professor straight up reads off the slides. I stopped going to his lectures after week three. I recommend using his class time to study on your own and using the lab/activity to learn the material. The course material is not super difficult, a lot of the midterm questions are similar to practice exams they send out.
One of the worst lectures ever especially for a class where the majority of the content is learned through lectures. he goes over content way too fast and doesn't really teach anything. for this course I dont think it matters what teacher you have in terms of the exams because I think everyone has the same but the Midterms are so hard so get ready.
He read off the slides without an extra input. I learned more in the activity sections rather than the lectures. If you want to pass you will have to study on your own and participate in the small section activities.
He would present his slides but non of the edits he made during class would save so it was pointless if you wanted to review after. Uses really weird variables to explain things making it so much more complicated. I went up to him a few times after lecture for clarification and he's a nice guy just seems bored teaching and ready to retire.
