Prof Mathews is extremely helpful and accurate. He lets you know what is expected from the get go. His test are straight from his notes. I was not into Economics but he helped me understand and enjoy it. If you attend class or at least keep up with you notes, you will do just fine.
professor matthews is a nice guy and knows his stuff. your only grades come from the tests but he drops the lowest one. he puts notes online and class isnt mandatory but it does help to go. he writes notes on the board the whole time so this is not a good class for a friday. overall not a bad class and a good teacher.
Funny guy. Came away from his class with a wealth of information and knowledge that I will be able to use in the future. I love to learn so I would definitely take him again.
He seems to know what he is talking about until you ask him a question. He doesn't seem to know how it all applies to the real world. when we asked about the economy today, he got all flustered. makes one think that he doesn't truely know what he is talking about
Easy professor. Notes are online but he clarifies them in class. Previous tests are online. You can keep your test after you take it and then the next class will focus on reviewing it. THe lowest is dropped. Highest is 40%, other 2 are 30%. Tests are the only grades. I would highly recommend this class.
He is a great teacher! He posts previous tests online for all to see, gives notes online (but still adds onto them in class), and is a nice person. However, the work is pretty hard. I don't see how he could helps us anymore or make it easier, but the subject itself is really hard. But I would reccomend him.
One question from test comes from lecture, so attendance is not mandatory. The notes posted on-line make the class an attainable A. This is a good teacher and class to take for none business majors.
TAKE HIM! the class itself is really boring, but the good thing is you dont have to go! he posts all the notes online, along with previous exams. if you read the notes and take the practices tests you can teach yourself and get a good grade on the test! there are 4 tests: he drops the lowest, highest counts 40% and other 2 count 30 each.
Drop this course!!!! he is the hardest teacher they got and i am an econ major!
Easy! Attendance isn't mandatory. There are 4 tests, only 3 count. Notes are online as well as tests and answer keys from previous semesters. Tests are nearly identical to one's online, and notes help a lot. I went every day before the first test, then only to take the tests after that and i have an A. Take him!!!
RUN far away get out of the class when you get a chance. He is harder on his early classes ( the 8 am and 930 classes ... I do not know why.
Do not take this class unless you dont care about your GPA. The previous semester's tests were online but if you did not understand the illustrations that he talks about in class then you are screwed. He has a hard time explaining a answer to any question about the lecture, so dont ask. He talks as if you should know what he is talking about.
Not a class you have to attend. You don't have to take notes. He posts them on his site. Study from the notes, and you'll at least get a B on them but if you understand the material, that promises you an A. I would recommend him if you don't wish to attend class and just want to study on your own time.
If you are 1/2 a student you will make an A in this class. Previous exams are posted on-line by the professor. I can't imagine this class being made any easier. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK.
80% of the test questions come straight from previous tests and practice questions online. The rest come straight from the notes. He gives 4 tests and he drops the lowest test grade (including the final). The notes are long and sometimes he doesn't make sense but it doesn't matter.. EVERYTHING you need is in the notes.
Dr. Mathews is very pleasant and helpful; I missed an exam and he let me make it up immediately without question. Test questions are directly from the notes and old tests [online with answer keys]. His class applies economics as a history lesson rather than making it a math class, which [for me] makes it easier to understand. Great teacher, easy A
wonderful guy. he assumes where students questions are going and ends up going off on a tangent without answering the question. very helpful and knowledgeable. he posts all his previous exams and keys. condensed notes are online. fairly easy tests.
Professor Mathews likes to hear himself talk. He does not actually teach only regurgitates what is on the notes. The best way to get a good grade is to not attend the class. Study & learn on your own. There are no test make-ups (he drops the lowest test grade). No personality & confusing lectures...take this class if u are an independent learner.
Posts condensed notes online, with practice quizzes that basically are his tests. Review notes on your own and know the practice questions and you'll do well. Come to class if you want more thorough explanations. Nice guy, keeps material simple but lectures drawn out and boring. 3 year of korea lectures during class make about 10% of your grade.
horrible
No need to come to class or buy the book. He posts all his lectures notes & practice tests online for students use. (practice tests are his previously given tests) 4 tests but only 3 count. (the lowest grade gets dropped) 3 year of korea lectures to boost your grade. Lectures are boring but informative. Easy A just study and do practice tests!
Horrible. He makes the class more boring than it has to be. If you ask a question don't expect to get the answer as he will go to a completely different tangent. He reads from his notes for lectures which made me sleepy. The Test questions were very Tricky. The only good thing is he drops the lowest test out of 4 tests.
He is a decent professor. His class is HARD if you do not like ECON. You do not need the book, I never once opened it the entire semester. He takes attendance daily and after tests for 10 points of your grade. Tests count 30 points each and you drop your lowest and a comprehensive final. Study all notes and old tests he makes available online.
I thought he was a decent professor. He helps as much as he can with posting notes online and practice tests. The class is not that hard. Plus when he lectures his voice cracks alot which is pretty funny haha.
Do not bother buying the book. We never use it. You can study straight from his notes. His class is very boring and he goes on tangents that make it difficult to keep up with. He seems nice enough and he knows his stuff but the class was painful to sit through.
You could read the book without going to class & do well; however, it is not encouraged. He will answer your questions immediately. Posts all old exams & answers online & also provides study guides. Talks really fast, so read for better understanding. Extremely enthusiastic, loves his job. Definitely recommend to take his class.
DONT BUY THE BOOK. youll never open it. he doesnt talk about it. he gives you great notes and lecture. answers all questions. posts all notes and exams along with answers online. very nice guy.
Horrible teacher. I have never met someone this boring. I tried so hard but still got a C. He does not know how to teach. He just talks and goes on and on. Don't take him. There are better teachers.
This Prof. is incredibly hard. Unless you truly love economics, do not take this teacher. I did not understand a single thing. He is a very nice guy and answers questions well, but if you not understand the lecture material you will not pass the tests.
I really enjoyed this class. Dr. Mathews posted his lecture notes online and old tests were also available to study. The lectures were very informative. I have one more test to take before I have my final grade. It is possible that I will have an A in this class.
His lectures can be boring but his voice which squeaks constantly will keep your attention. Dont waste money on the book. Clear and easy. He posts his notes so you can print them (they are very comprehensive). Also posts old tests to help you study and often reuses questions. If econ comes easy you will make an A. If not, an A still won't be hard.
Dr. Mathews obviously enjoys his classes and is happy to answer questions. It is economics, so maybe not everyone's interest, but I did learn a lot. Attendance not mandatory, but I could not have understood the graphs (big part of tests) without hearing his explanations. Class handouts very helpful in studying for tests. He's a nice guy.
NO BOOK, BUT MUST ATTEND TO UNDERSTAND POSTED NOTES! EXCITED ABOUT TEACHING THE SUBJECT, UNFORTUNATELTY MOST COLLEGE STUDENTS ARE NOT. IF YOU NEED TO BOOST YOUR GPA, TAKE MATHEWS AND LEARN IN THE PROCESS, HE MAKES IT TOO EASY NOT TO ABSORB SOMETHING ABOUT ECONOMICS. KICKING MYSELF FOR NOT MAKING AN A! WAS ONE POINT AWAY! ATTEND EXTRA CREDIT SESSION
Professor Mathews was an awesome Econ teacher. He has a dry sense of humor, which made a dull subject interesting. He was helpful and great about responding to emails. He gives previous tests and answer keys online and takes most of that material to make the new tests. If you attend class, take notes and look at prior tests, you will do well.
Great teacher! His test are fair and don't stray from material covered in notes. Very knowledgeable of his subject and just in general a great guy. If you can take him, I recommend it 110%. Oh and don't waste money buying the books, they are never needed.
Dr. Mathews uses EVERY MINUTE of lecture! Covers a lot of material, and often talks in circles. He uses handouts on his personal website as "slides", but all the test info comes from here. He has every test he's given posted online, and they help you prepare for the tests. Easier to understand outside of class, but overall easy A or B.
Attendance is not mandatory. He teaches directly from the notes he posts on his website. He is VERY dull. Tests are hard so study the notes well! We NEVER use the book, so don't bother buying it. The test questions come from the notes only. And do the practice problems to prepare for test.
If you are not an Econ major then it is a very dull class. Don't bother with the texts he puts all the information up on the overhead and the tests are from the practice ones.
He teaches directly from handouts he provides on his homepage. The tests will come directly from those handouts as well. Go to lecture, study those handouts (including the sample problems), and it is an easy A.
This class is easy if you do study notes, practice tests, and sample questions. Questions on tests come straight from all of those. Don't buy textbook. I didn't open it once and got an A.
I took this class in the maymester. Cool professor with a great attitude. Provides notes online for u 2 use during lecture and for studying. Also provides old exams and quizes for u to use 4 practice. Study the types of problems on the practice test and u will do fine. Tests are 2/3 multiple choice(19 questoions). The rest is short answer problems.
Professor Mathews provided a fascinating background on the history of world Economics while providing students with up-to-date essay lectures and helpful study guides. Mathews also personally helped me outside of the classroom and is very passionate about making sure his students succeed. Lectures can be long but are very fascinating.
Nice guy, boring class. Textbooks aren't worth buying. 70% of each test questions comes directly from the sample questions in the handouts for those sections, study them heavily.
Very knowledgeable professor and committed to helping his students. He really knows what he is talking about and he made the info clear enough to understand. Attending class and taking detailed notes really helped me to be successful in his class. Also do the practice questions and exams! They are almost identical to the actual test!!!
Professor Matthew made economics interesting and you can tell he really loved the topic. Unfortunately this class was still hard for most people. Here's a hint, Study the questions from the handout's and all the info on the handout's about 90% of the test come form them! Walked away with a B, but the hardest B to earn ever!
I had a low interest in this class so my review might not be as helpful. Decent teacher. Lectures off his notes all class. Four tests, which includes the final. 40 multiple choice questions. Drops lowest. Never used book, just memorized old test questions. If you want to skate by, this is the class to take.
I took him my first semester at KSU, and actually changed my major TO economics because of this class. Make sure you study the tests he posts from previous semesters, and know WHY the answers are correct. If you are a business major, I would take him or Dr. Schwartz for as many courses as you can. I'm now checking into Ph.D. programs in Econ.
I was actually kind of interested in Econ at first but defiantly not now. Its a bunch of bad math to me. The notes he uses he will not give to students so if you aren't a good note taker you are out of luck. The book is useless and crazy expensive. He provides past tests but that is it. If you are a visual learner it will be a difficult class.
Easiest class I've taken. Don't bother going to lecture because it's pointless. 4 tests, drops lowest grade, no hw. Posts previous exams on his website and the questions are identical to the tests he gives. Study those and the handout sheets (including the questions on those) posted on his website and you're guaranteed an A. Really nice man!
Very easy class, can be boring if you go to lecture every day. Textbook not necessary because he posts previous tests and practice worksheets online. Just look over those before each test and you will get an easy A. I took this as a DEHP student, and it was perfect for an emerging college student.
Easy class. Don't bother buying the book. He posts old tests online that are almost identical to the exam, plus an 86% or higher is an A and a 78% or higher is a B! He also drops the lowest test grade. There's no reason to not receive an A in this class. He is also a great teacher and lecturer. Take him!
Do not believe the 1100 reviews if you are taking his 2100 class. Notes online, 4 tests drops the lowest 1. He does have the curved grading scale but you are going to need it. It was one of the hardest B's I've ever made. The online tests and handouts are helpful, but will not give you an A. You MUST know the material well.
Great professor. Never used the book at all. posts notes, and previous years tests online. no HW , just 4 tests, drops the lowest one, and gives the highest one more weight % wise
Prof Mathews is a great teacher. I got a B due to my own fault (I slept in class alot). It is an easy A. You don't even have to show up because he posts the chapter notes on his webpage and those notes REALLY help you on the tests so the book is optional. Only thing I didn't like is there are only three grades (all tests). He does give extra credit
Wonderful Professor! He is very willing to help and go over material outside of class. You must attend class, that is why you are in college---to learn!!! I highly recommend taking him.
Great guy ! Loved his lectures ! Drops the requirement for an A down to 86%! On top of that, his lectures a really good and you should pass just by showing up and listening. I wouldn't advise you to get the textbook, I never used it and got an A. He posts notes that are super helpful ! TAKE HIM, he can be funny at times. haha
I loved this class. I wasn't good about always coming to class because I had him at 8am, but I still managed to make an easy A because his practice study guides for each test made the tests so easy. He is a super cool guy and relates well to college students. Would recommend him to anyone taking ECON1000. You just have to make an 86 to make an A
He knows the material well (he wrote the book). Lectures are basically like reading the book, but you can ask questions. Cut off for an A is 86%. Only 3 test ( highest one worth 40% and last two worth 30% of final grade). He offer EC , attend up to 3 events for 3% added to final grade. Test questions are pulled from study guides and previous tests.
His tests are similar to past tests. If you do the study guides he gives you then you should be good on the tests. I would also study previous tests if you're aiming for an A. Very easy A if you do the practice study guides and review previous tests.
This class was very easy. I did not go to all the classes and still got an A in the class. All the test questions are from the study guides and past tests. The book is inexpensive, and I used it a few times for help on study guide questions.
I went to this class four times-the first day of class, and three test days throughout the semester and made a B+. He has a lot of extra credit available. Great funny guy but I just didn't want to wake up and be at school at 8AM.
Easy A. I went to the first 2 classes until I realized that he was teaching directly from the book. From then on I only showed up on test days. He also provides his previous tests for the past 3 semesters. Practice those and you will do well on his tests. I would highly recommend Dr. Mathews.
Mr. Mathews is a great professor because I left his class knowing much more than when I went in. His lectures are interesting even though a lot of it is basic information about economics. He wrote the textbook which becomes very helpful in the long run, I recommend you read it.
Never went to class outside of test days and still got an A. He posts all relevant info online. Only graded on 3 tests. Lots of opportunities for extra credit. Highly recommend.
Class is so helpful and easy. You have three test and that is it. He gives you extra credit opportunities. You only need an 88 to get an A. With the extra credit you can get a 82 and make an A. He post the previous exams. After making As on first two exams I never went back to class and made an A without extra credit I did.
A really good teacher- he is very lecture heavy but does well. Three tests and the final, and attendance could affect your grade but only if it helps. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. Tests are based exactly from the textbook and his lectures, and all test questions are from his past tests, which are accessible through his website.
Dr. Mathews is very nice and I enjoyed the class. Exam questions come from his previous tests, handouts he posts online, & his recommended book problems. Easy to do well in if you try. He has 4 different formulas he will use to calculate your grade, and chooses the highest. Gives enough extra credit to raise your grade by a whole letter. Take him!
I really liked his grading scale in this class, he offers multiple grading scales so that you get the chance to do well in his class. I'm an A student and I failed the second test and made a C on the final and was able to make an A. Make sure you study old exams and ask lots of questions. You likely won't pick up the material in class, so study.
I attended every lecture, 5 extra credit opportunities, and failed EVERY TEST. Mathews was willing to help during office hours, offered extra credit, and never canceled class. My concern is that the department should require the professors to make the final grade come from more than just 3 exams. Some people are not good test takers.
Took Mathews during Maymester. It is a long class, but super easy to pass. Don't forget to study the past tests and show up to class. Attendance is not his primary concern, but do show up. He is super nice, and gives breaks during long classes. There are three tests, and the highest grade counts as 40%. An *6& or above is considered an A.
Took as maymester, not for everyone. Had to memorize A LOT of numbers, percentages, and dates. Its like oh you studied this table sorry thats not on there hope you saw this obscure number on xyz table. I like learning and do not feel I learned anything just prayed I memorized the right stuff. Junior and A student, made a B pretty sour about it.
I took Mathews as a maymester class and even though the lectures were long, they went by pretty fast. Professor Mathews does care alot for his students and is willing to help. He posts his previous tests from past semesters and those are almost exactly like the ones I took in class. Reviewing notes and pasts tests are good guides
Prof. Mathews is a wonderful professor! I took him for ECON1000. He posted the vocab on his website that you should study for the tests. The textbook is required. It helps to understand the material. Three tests. He gives so many opportunities for extra credit! As long as you study, you will be fine. Highly recommend!
He is a pretty cool guy and he really knows what he's talking about when it comes to econ. He wrote the textbook so it follows his lectures pretty closely. His past tests are available to take for study purposes and they really help. He gives several opportunities to earn extra credit for the class too, and your best test grade is worth the most.
The only grades were 3 exams, and he provided lots of extra credit opportunities. I figured out after the first exam that if you practice his previous semesters' exams, you will get an A. I did not use the textbook, but the professor uses some practice questions from it. I benefited from lectures, but most test questions can be found somewhere
Dr. Mathews was very good at keeping concepts concise but also elaborating on concepts that need it. My notes were fairly short per topic and I never got below an 80 on any of the quizzes. My maymester class had 11 MCQ quizzes with 10 questions per quiz and a 40 question final. The class was very straightforward and I'd definitely take it again!
I took him online during the and we had 2 quizzes every week. He drops your lowest quiz grade. Some of the quizzes were a little difficult but you can email him and he respond rather quickly.
very straighforward class. i had to take it online due to covid and it wasn't bad at all. just watch the lectures take notes and you will be good. oh and all the quizzes are open notes so its very hard to fail
The class was okay. The class was hybrid this semester due to covid. The whole class is just watching long lecture videos and taking an open note quiz every other week. It is boring but relatively easy. If it was all in-person then I bet it would be much more interesting, but watching 2-3 hours of lectures a week isn't something I enjoy.
We had 5 quizzes and a final exam. We would have to take notes on power points sent out and that is what our quizzes were on. It was not necessarily hard, but he did not teach us much AT ALL.
Took this class online during Summer 2020. Quiz heavy class. Instruction format was with video lectures and PDFs of notes. There is a project that involves you applying the concepts. This class is not a free ride; you have to put in work. Dr. Mathews is responsive if you have questions. Mathews is a solid choice for this class.
86% or higher is an A. He is a very very good professor. He is very knowledgeable and puts content into analogies that are easy to understand.
Professor Mathews wrote the textbook we used. He is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about economics. Lecture attendance were for extra credit and there were virtual guest lecturers that also allowed for extra credit. The only reason I gave him four stars instead of five is due to his tendency to go off on long tangents.
Great professor! I took it online and reccomend taking him for an easy class
Prof. Mathews wrote the textbook for class so his lectures follow it very well! He uploaded pre-recorded lectures to watch on our own time. It helps to watch them AND read the textbook. Quizzes/tests were fairly easy and open note. 24 hrs to complete each. You do have to somewhat understand the material to pass. EC for guest lectures + attendance
He has a tendency to go off on tangents about things that don't relate to the course. He forgets to cover things that are on the quizzes. He tries to implement his own political view into everything. If you are just taking this class to get the credit I would recommend taking someone else.
Prof Mathews is a great prof! He makes a rather boring subject interesting with his jokes and enthusiasm, and he is always willing to help on anything youre having trouble with after class or in his office. All quizzes are open note, and the final is a cumulative, closed note exam. He lets you study with past exams/quizzes, so use those to study!
he was an alright professor I just feel like his teaching was not easy to follow. i didn't understand anything and did all of the quizzes and used other resources given but still managed to basically fail.
Good professor. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities, which can boost your final grade by an entire 5 points. His whole class is graded off of 6 quizzes and a final exam. Final was worth 30%. Quizzes are open notes open book but still kinda hard. He posts pasts semesters quizzes and final online before you have to take them. Would reccomend
A good professor. The powerpoint slides that he goes over in class basically cover the textbook. Make sure you take your time on the quizzes because in the end itll help you pass the class. Go to 5 extra credit lectures when you can!!!!!!!! Lifesaver to be honest. Also, there is no study guide for the final so best of luck!
If you have a hard time paying attention to lectures, this isn't the class for you. Classes were lectures start to finish and sometimes hard to follow. Graded on 10 quizzes and a final worth 30% of the grade. Quizzes were open note but still difficult. Extra credit was offered, highly recommend taking that chance.
I really enjoyed Dr. Mathews as an introduction to Economics. There are 5 tests, open book, and the lowest gets dropped. He makes all of the previous tests from all previous semesters available as study aids for the exams. The content can be challenging as with all ECON classes as there is a good bit of reasoning involved. Highly recommend him.
Dr. Mathews is a very knowledgeable teacher and does know what he's doing but it's easy to mess up and lose your A in the class. The tests aren't crazy hard but they're definitely challenging. Otherwise there's not really any homework and a lot of the class is just sitting there. Gave us days off cause the 2 credit hour class was in a 3 ch slot.
2 tests only 5 Hmws. Tests were midterm and final. Very detail oriented questions from within tables. Changed the course. Seems to have missed the bigger picture of test questions given how minuscule one figure from a about 15 different tables included. The overall concept was missed by picky figures. So basically remember every rate number ever.
Prof. changed the grading criteria. 2 total tests. Missed on teaching concepts.
Total of 2 tests that are worth 70% of your grade. Does not work with students to bring up grade besides some lousy extra credit that only adds one point.
This is a great class. There are about 5 homework but he drops the lowest one. There are only two test the midterm then the final. He gives extra credit which you just go and scan the QR code at the end to get the 1 point. You can only get up to 6 points but if you think about it thats a lot because those points goes to your final grade.
Two tests determine most of your grade and they close-note close-book, only few other hw grades and 6 points added directly to your GPA. He is one of the only Econ professors that do closed note tests to my knowledge. Avoid him if you find economics hard to understand.
There is definitely way better professors that u can use quizlet, but he is overall really easy and one of the funniest professors ever. I do reccommend
Two tests are worth more than half your grade (I think around 60-70%). So if you fail one you basically fail the class. Enough said.
Very knowledgeable, however very information overload, took this as a Maymester which may be why I feel this way, but would not suggest for a two week course.
Do not take this class. Exams are very difficult and ask questions that are almost impossible to study for. Only has 2 exams each worth 30% of your overall grade, and the tests are closed note. He doesn't allow for retests or late assignments. The in class lectures were nothing like the tests. He said last semester only 3 ppl finished w an A.
Mr. Mathews is deeply knowledgeable about the subject of Economics and presents the course material in a very clear manner. As a professor, he's one of the best you can have. However, his grading criteria are quite steep, as there are only two tests, each being worth 30% of your grade, and the other 40% is homework.
Two exams are given which are both 30% of your grade and 6 homework assignments that are only 8%. I feel like if the HW was worth more, u can pass, study guides weren't like the test. There were so many I didn't understand what to study. If you fail the midterm or final, you fail the class, although I did great on the homework assignments/quizzes.
One of the best professors I have taken at KSU. He is very engaged with the class throughout his lectures and adapts to the culture of the class. My advice for those taking his class, do not focus on taking notes, rather listen to what he is saying during lecture or take minimum notes, then look over the powerpoints or the textbook.
Loved him.Took him him in the spring. An early morning class but he was chill. Lots of extra credit, straightforward hw. Just study and you'll be good. Read the textbook if you can but its not compulsory. This was my first ever econ class.
Who ever said he was funny, lied. I'm currently taking his class right now and he is by far the worse professor I've taken. He expects students to do well on their HWs, but only puts like 10 questions on there. Not only that, during lectures he JUST talks. He does not do any demonstrations, or writing on the board or detailed explanations. Sucks!
only lectures the whole time. only 2 tests so weighs very heavily. 6 I think homeworks, drops lowest one but they aren't the easiest
DO NOT TAKE HIM. This class was harder than it needed to be and the PowerPoints never really helped with the homework. He does extra credit but only for 5 points, and the final exam is in person closed book, closed notes. Microeconomics is a great class when you take a good professor, so id recommend taking someone else if you can.
Professor Matthews is an ok to mediocre professor. He grades off of 6 homework and 2 tests, so there are few things you can do to redeem your grade. He does give extra credit opportunities that go to your overall grade but it is capped at 5. Lectures are pretty boring because he pretty much reads the slides verbatim and does not simplify things.
Funny guy/fun person to listen to. Missed lectures dont dock points but they are pretty helpful to understand slides b/c his occasional rambling made me remember certain things. Grading is a bit harsh with only 6 quizzes (lowest dropped)/ 2 exams but you can earn 5 points for your overall grade w/ extra credit. EMAIL HIM QUESTIONS HE'S VERY HELPFUL
Take Mr. Matthews the class is exactly what it needs to be and not overcomplicated. You only have a few grades but none of them are hard other than exams. Just go to lecture or ask him additional questions and the class is a breeze. Also, a cool guy and tries his best to make class fun.
Great professor. Taught from powerpoint but actually taught the material rather than reading word for word. Very laid back, but do your work on time and study for the exams. He posts old exams from previous classes to help study and they're very beneficial. Class isn't mandatory but take notes and do the homework and you'll be fine.
grades relied on 1 final exam(a lot failed)& very difficult homework assignments he is very lecture based but a lot of people in the class had a hard time connecting lectures to the homework & final (we had to rely on extra credit to pass) he's a cool guy ! he's just too knowledgeable on topics that he forgets we don't get it at the same pace
By far one of the most challenging courses I've taken. Prof. Mathews seemed very knowledgeable but struggled to bridge the gap in his wealth of knowledge to students who had never taken a microeconomics course. A lot failed the final, but you can barely scrape by it if you do well on the HW (which is nearly impossible without a tutor).
Interesting class! His lectures are interesting and he makes things pretty easy to understand! 6 homeworks and 2 tests, but he offers 5 extra credit points with many opportunities through the semester. He's available outside class. Sometimes goes off on tangents. All previous tests/quizzes are posted with answer keys, all follow the same format.
He is a very funny professor, yet the work for the class is so hard with there being homework once a week and only one test the entire semester worth a big chunk of your final grade. My best advice is to let your classmates carry you because it might be impossible to pass without any assistance (which he allows you to work with others).
He knows what he is talking about. This course has 1 homework each week which can be super difficult. The lectures are fun and not dull but some concepts were difficult to understand. Only 2 tests given throughout semester which are basically reworded homework questions. I managed to scrape by with a C. Overall good teacher, difficult material.
He makes Economics a field you will LOVE FOREVER.
Super easy, ended up dropping lowest exam (Only 3). Only grades were the tests and like 5 homeworks. Clear criteria but make sure you study. Doesnt do attendance
Very powerpoint heavy. Use his previous tests as study materials. His lectures will put you to sleep.
take notes and complete homework! easy A 10/10 class!
I'm not a business student so this class was naturally hard, but he just read off of a powerpoint 100 miles an hour. Too quick to write down or understand. He also was very monotone and did not engage the class well. Wouldn't recommend.
I took AP micro and macro in highschool so this class was easy and very boring. His PPTs have everything you need, don't buy his textbook. Many extra credit opportunities, max of 4 points added from guest lectures/screenings, 1 from YouScience, and 1 from Course Evaluation Survey. 7 online homeworks, lowest is dropped. In-person final.
Professor Matthews keeps the class engaging, even if the material can be dry at times. Use past exams to prep, and Unstuck AI can help streamline your studying. Put in the work and you'll likely earn a solid grade.
Good professor, my grade is because there are 2 exams and I didn't do great on them. he has few homework assignments and provides everything on his course website. He records lectures, goes over the homework the day its due, and does review days before the exams. He has a textbook but it isnt used at all. Gives multiple chances for extra credit.
This professor is very chill and expressive. There are many extra credit opportunities that aren't too hard to attend. Over all if you just attending the class and taking notes you will do great!
Bro hes actually hilarious and its honestly really easy to get a good grade in this class.
Great professor, my favorite one of my fall semester. He was very engaging, but lecture heavy. Lecture was not mandatory. Genuinely be friends with the guy, he is funny and is very realistic, speaking facts every class. He also provides past exams to practice from, use those because they help. Would take again.
Great professor overall. Show up to class even though attendance isn't mandatory because it'll show that you care and he'll take care of you. Funny professor, lots of lectures but broke it down well. Many extra credit opportunities. Textbook isn't needed so don't purchase. All resources are on his webpage like old tests and powerpoint slides.
only grades on 6 homework assignments and midterm and final. lectures weren't really informative and he just blew through every graph we had to learn about and i didn't understand hardly anything we did in this class. there are a lot of extra credit opportunities though which is the only reason i finished with a B.
Lectures seemed like a waste of time because every class he would just read off the ppt slide and then start a random tangent that would end off topic. Final covered material we didn't get to in class. Lots of extra credit opportunities only if they align with your schedule.
SOOO boring & monotone. I stopped going to class so that's why i got a B. Only 2 tests PACKED with 3-4 units each I think. 6 online homework's, they're easy so just do them. Doesn't let you pack up early or else he will make the class stay past class time. Participation matters a lot, he will be sure to memorize your name.
