The class is very boring and monotonous. The math stuff is relatively interesting, but the other material (multiple choice) is very hard to pay attention to. Also having quizzes in discussion every FRIDAY is not cool.
OK let's face it, most people find this class a snoozer, but he tries so hard, and the workload and tests are definitely reasonable. Like the deep Minnesota accent!
This class is extremely boring, and the tests and friday quizzes are a pain in the ass.
Boring lecture. friday quizzes suck
Boring class. If he didn't teach it though it would suck five times worse. 6 quizzes on fridays otherwise you don't have to go to discussion. Tests are pretty easy.
good professor for a boring class...friday quizzes are awful, but manageable
Tim is a very nice guy and teaches the material well. The subject matter is often very boring.
Good class! If go to lectures, won't even need to read the textbook. Not a hard class.
Boring class, but he tries to make it interesting. Friday quizes aren't fun, but they are pretty easy. Good teacher!
Tim is a good guy, the class isn't that hard and the concepts are taught pretty well, however i find it hard to pay attention sometimes becuase the material can be a bit dry at time
Sigh...I actually really enjoyed this class, but maybe it was because I worked in a warehouse so I understood a lot of it easily. He explains everything extremely well and clear, and the project and quizzes aren't bad at all. The exams can be a little tricky, and I think that's how I ended up with an AB instead of an A. Bummer.
He's a great lecturer and a great guy. He tries to make the classes fun and gives useful examples. Class notes are very useful. The course is not hard either. Definitely enjoy his classes.
great guy, keeps a not so fun subject fun
Tim is amazing teacher, he keeps the lectures fun and is willing to help if you need it. He is a great guy.
Tim is a very nice guy, helpful and tries to keep class interesting with jokes, video clips, and real life examples. The subject material can seem monotonous at times but its important to go to lecture and take notes and learn to do the problems. Overall not a bad class, 2 tests worth 35%, best 5 of 7 quizzes make up 15%, and group project is 15%
Tim is helpful and keeps the class as interesting as possible. Sadly, the material isnt the most exciting and some of the homework problems can be irritating. The project is easy but the tests can be tricky. Study notes and memorize facts for the tests and the quizes and you will do well.
Let's be honest, here: class material is boring. Tim does the best job he can to make it interesting and he has a lot of real-world knowledge about the topics and has some crazy mental math skills. Tests require a lot of memorizing but are definitely fair. Try to pay attention and study adequately and you'll do fine.
Tim is a great professor. Like everyone has been saying, the material is a bit dry, but not too difficult. Don't worry about reading, exams are based off lectures. Quizzes are a bit tricky at times, but you get to drop 2. Overall, a good class that doesn't require an overwhelming amount of work like many other core business classes.
McClurg is a great guy and a good professor. This class really isn't tough, especially if you pay attention in discussion. No need to read the book, just study the practice problems and lecture notes. The group project isn't bad either. Just put in the work, and you should get an A.
Not the most exciting class in the world. If you take it after all of your other business requirements, it's basically a summary of everything you've already learned. There are quizzes every other week or so, which is annoying but helpful when studying for exams. Not awful. Just not awesome.
This class is pretty easy just do the work. Book is unnecessary since exams only focus on the material covered in class and discussion. There are quizzes every few weeks or so but two can be dropped and you have a chance to make up two if you don't go to discussion that week.
I like Tim.
Close tie with accounting 211 for the most boring required class in the business school. Easy to do well if you look over the slides a few times and know the math problems. Assignments are simple and also very boring.
Makes the best out of boring material. T.As are very helpful if you need it. Pay attention in class and you will do fine. Don't get the textbook
The professor is well organized, encourages class participation, and gets straight to the point. If you show up to lecture and pay attention the class should be easy. If not, he's more than happy to help you.
Tim is awesome, Class is easy and tests are entirely based off of power points, problems (which are easy) and lecture. Three hw assign. and they were all easily graded, quizzes got tough when I stopped paying attention, but overall good class. Go to lecture and study ppts and you'll be fine!
Tim is a very good professor. Although his lectures can sometimes be a little dry he works hard to make sure his students are prepared and that they understand the material. The class was not all that difficult and the material was rather interesting. I would definitely recommend taking this class with Tim.
Easy A if you take notes. Very simple overview of operations. Tests have 1 or 2 questions from each guest lecturer. Go to discussion: practice problems and quizzes are representative of the exams. DON'T BUY THE BOOK!! Absolutely unnecessary.
Had him for this summer session. He is a really good professor although the class tends to be boring. Go to class and take notes and you will be fine.
Professor McClurg is a wonderful instructor. He is patient and willing to answer you questions. He is nice and friendly to help you all the time. In-class notes are very important. He will put all PPT online, and if you attend class and practice his problems in homework, you can earn a A definitely.
This class can be boring, but Tim does a good job of maintaining energy. He knows the material well and was a great teacher. As long as you go to class and pay attention, there shouldn't be any surprises. Watch out for the quizzes- they were often harder than the exams!
PHENOMENAL Professor; Very dedicated to teaching the material and I walked out of the class with far more interest in OTM. Never had to use his office hours but friends have told me he is very friendly and genuine; HE WANTS YOU TO SUCCEED and it's obvious in the way he thoroughly covers the material. One of the rocks of the Business School.
Awesome. He cares a lot and makes OTM interesting
Great professor who makes boring content somewhat interesting. well planned lectures with slides for easy notetaking. very clear in what he expects.
Course and Tim are solid. I am not a big OTM person but he does a nice job explaining the importance of OTM. Tim is very passionate and interested in this topic. Overall the course is relatively easy if you go to class and discussion.
Really good teacher. Just be sure to know the slides super well and skim the articles he requires because he pulls a few questions from those for the exams.
He is a good guy. The class is boring. Review slides thoroughly before tests and learn the math. Unfortunately, some of the multiple choice questions are out of left field
Prof. McClurg's lectures can be a bit dull if you're not quite interested in OTM, but he really cares about students and he's always willing to help. Clear expectations. Take this class with him and you'll be fine
Make sure you attend lectures, you can get an A easy in this course if you are good at memorizing notesslides he gives out in class. Always willing to help at office hours.
Professor McClurg has only been outstandingly kind and wonderful throughout the semester. He is so funny, sweet, and makes the material very interesting. He wants everyone to succeed and he's a great guy. 100% recommend him and the class.
Professor McClurg was extremely helpful throughout the semester and clearly cares about his students and their understanding of the course material. He's a really great, easy-going guy. I definitely recommend taking a course with this professor.
McClurg is a really great guy, but OTM seems a little pointless and very easy. His lectures are fine, but the material for his half of the semester is quite dry. The simulations are stupid but easy. The readings are pointless, I honestly wouldn't even buy the packet. Overall, a pretty good professor who cares about his students, just a boring class
Take OTM 300 with McClurg! Although a lot of students think this class is super boring McClurg does a great job trying to make it interesting. One of the best professors I have had and does a great job clarifying concepts and is super willing to help. Study hard, go to class, do all the practice problems and make sure you understand them.
The group projects at times seemed to loose the element of what their necessity was. The grading by my TA may have messed the difficulty up. The TA makes or breaks the class.
Lecture can be boring. Exam pulls tiny details that aren't discussed much. 2 excel and 2 simulation assignments: too much work to be worth 5% and were a pain. Glad the 2 quizzes are optional. Overall, boring lecture because some material was dry, but not a bad class. More work than it should be, but Tim is fair.
Lectures are very dry and boring. If you are good with basic math/stats most of the concepts are pretty easy. The simulations can be rough if you don't get a good group. Also there are only two tests which make up 80% of your grade, not cumulative, but they don't leave much room for error. Easy class with effort but very boring.
Dr. McClurg is a great professor. He is nice and always willing to help. OTM 300 class is not a hard course as long as you do the practice problems before exam. Take quizzes if can and do well on the exams because there are only 2 exams which account for 80% of your grade.
The first group project is challenging and there is no real guidance. The course packet is from the Grainger Copy Center and is a must to earn the participation points for the class.
He's great! Lectures are good (do take notes). Exam can be tough--study slides/lec notes, readings, and the guest speaker's slides. The first group project (Littlefield) is fun if you put in the effort. He's helpful when you ask questions (and even when you don't). Really cares about OTM and his students, and is fun. Grades fairly. I recommend him
This course was tricky for me. I really struggle with the basic math for some reason. I wish Tim offered more practice problems and that our exam grades weren't 75% of our final grade. I was in lecture every day and really worked hard. I just don't think my final grade will reflect that.
Tim runs a straightforward class. He provides practice problems for each of the three exams, all equally weighted (half of the points are math, half scantron). The math/problem components of the exams will closely mirror the practice quizzes. No surprises. Simulations and excel assignments can be some work, but they are graded easily/fairly.
Difficult class but not too bad if you work at it. Professor McClurg is great and it's really easy to get help if you need it by him or the TAs.
Make sure to study the slides and go through all the practice questions and quizzes before the exam and you will be fine!
Tim is a very nice guy and an experienced professor. He has taught 300 for like 18 years so he knows what he is talking about and what is relevant to students. Sometimes his lectures get boring, but overall a great prof.
He's a good guy and leads a pretty straightforward class. Take the quizzes and use Top Hat in class for participation. A couple group assignments and a couple individual ones. Not super hard material, just make sure you go through the practice problems and readings for multiple choice questions before exams.
Tim is a good professor who makes his grading and expectations very clear. If you go over the review problems, you will do just fine on exams. Sometimes, lectures get a little boring but nothing that you can't handle.
I had Tim for the Fall 2012-2013 semester. The material is not the most exciting so lectures can be boring but it is a required business course. Tim is a really nice guy who cares about his students, go to his office hours to get to know him.
As a marketing major, I thought this class was really boring at times. I was not interested in the material, but Tim is a great professor. He really knows what he's talking about, and you can tell. There are quizzes each week online (4 or 5 points) and a few simulations and projects as well as the exam. Go through practice problems before exams.
Tim was one of my favorite professors at UW. He's funny and really passionate about the topic he's teaching. There are 2 exams - each worth 37.5% of the final grade. I know it's an overwhelming number, it scared me a ton at first but there are ZERO surprises on the exams. They're near identical to the practice problems he puts out weeks before!
If I had to describe Tim in one word it would be baller. The class isn't super interesting, but he's a super nice guy who loves OTM. It's hard not to like him. There are two major tests, but the practice material is SUPER helpful. Bravo Tim, bravo!
Tim is extremely nice, helpful, and the content is straight-forward. The 2 exams are 37.5% each, but very fair - study the lecture slides, do the practice problems and you'll do well. There are mini reading quizzes and 2 group project simulations.
Class is super easy. Lectures aren't mandatory and discussion isn't either. Posts the slides online. Exams are half multiple choice half free response math problems. Just review PowerPoints & you should be fine. Just a group simulation project and one individual excel project. Other half of class was taught by other profesor.
Very passionate about what he teaches and very easy to receive a high grade if you can do basic math
One of the finest professors at the school! Only two tests that are very easy if you study the practice exam and lecture slides. 2 group projects and 2 individual assignments are also very manageable!
Professor McClurg is a very nice guy and pretty solid lecturer. Be sure to print out the lecture slides as it makes taking notes a ton easier. The midterm was straightforward if you study the practice/your notes. Reading the textbook might help, but definitely isn't a requirement. The 2 simulations are a pain, but everything else is pretty easy.
Professor McClurg is a very nice guy. More than half your grade is based on exams, do the practice problems and study lecture slides even from guest lectures. There are two individual analytics assignments, two group simulations, and reading quizzes. You don't really have to read, just attend lecture.
Pretty easy class. It consists of quizzes and discussion posts every week (rotating back and forth each week), two individual projects, two group projects, and two exams. I took it online and you're pretty much able to get a 70%-80% on exams and quizzes without even watching lectures as most of the questions are online. I never went to discussion.
This class was based on two individual Excel analytics assignments, two group simulations, two exams that accounted for 15% each, quizzes, and online discussions. The only part of this class that was synchronous was in-person (or online) discussions, which weren't required for attendance but were helpful for the analytics and simulation assignment
So far this guy is absolutely awful. Over the top with what he expects you to remember, doesn't even do any lectures hardly at all. Complete learn on yourself. What a joke
Imagine you are swimming in a pool and you can't get out nor see the bottom. But Tim is there and he keeps pouring more and more water in overwhelming you. That is how it feels with the huge amount of (UNORGANIZED) information. I have never been so confused in my life. I wish you a lot of luck if you have him... And this concludes my review ;).
Nice guy and responsive to emails, but he did a bad job teaching this class online. His lectures were rare and short. Plus, his voice is very monotone and hearing it makes you feel depressed. You had to rely on the book to learn the content, which explained the concepts poorly and goes way too in depth. Most of his exam questions are book based.
OTM300 was a challenge. McClurg knew what he was talking about, but lectures were long videos that went fast and did not explain connections between ideas. The math shouldn't be hard, but the layout and pace of the videos made it more confusing than it needed to be. Found that quizzes and exams were difficult. Discussion practice problems helpful
I took this class this semester and it was back in person. He did a great job of cutting through a lot of the junk in the textbook and in the lecture just discussed the material that would be covered on exams. He is very nice and responds to emails very quickly.
His lecturing style can be very boring and the class felt disjointed. The material discussed in class, in the textbook, and in the discussion sections is all different. Studying for the exams was a nightmare, but the grading process was lenient as a LOT of partial credit was given.
Pretty basic class. His lectures are boring but informative. Not a very hard class. You do have two group projects during the semester.
Challenging class. Tim was nice. The discussion classes teach you how to do the mathematical problems. Good Luck
Tim was one of the better professors I've had in the business school. Tim genuinely wants his students to learn and succeed. He does not try to trick students, he uses excellent examples, and he is a good story teller. Tim is quick to respond to email if you have questions. Attend class, take good notes, and I guarantee you'll succeed. Great class!
I'm sure Tim is a nice guy, but his lecturing and teaching style taught me everything I don't want in a professor. He's not good at explaining things, and is not great at explaining the concepts. I struggled a lot learning from him, and had to teach myself everything solely off the textbook and the discussion sections.
Tough class, but not the prof's fault. Incredibly understanding and caring guy. Truly wants the best for the students. Personally, had a hard time following in lectures, but would meet with me in office hours to explain and go over concepts.
The class is not easy. Lectures were pretty boring and I eventually stopped attending. The group simulation project was even more boring than the lectures. Excel part was super hard. Go to discussions for math problem review, and go to office hours for help on the Excel case. Read the textbook. Good luck!
One of the hardest graders ever!!! So happy that class is over with, I barely understood what was going on and there were 2 very hard assignments.
Lectures were dry and boring but helpful for going over practice problems. The class was difficult with so many different equations and problems to understand. Recommend reading the book to help understand concepts. Go to office hours for help on the excel homework. Practice problems using the equations a lot for exams.
Dr. McClurg is a heavy lecturer who doesn't cover content that is tested on via homework and quizzes/exams. His slides don't relate to the tested content and he rambles constantly. The examples he gives are longwinded and barely relevant.
Tim is a very nice guy and super approachable. I would recommend showing up to lecture even though they can be a little slow. READ THE TEXTBOOK and DO THE PRATICE PROBLEMS. Tim gives you what you need to succeed, so use it.
I thought lecture material often varied from what I read in the textbook. There wasn't much quality practice material to prepare for exams or understand the material. The practice problems in the textbook weren't representative of exams. Overall I thought Tim cared about his students and understood the material, but OTM300 itself was not great.
Tim is my favorite professor I have had so far. His teaching is very clear and it's easy to understand. It complements the textbook nicely. I am excited to take another one of his classes next semester!
You have to be in class and you have to pay attention. This is because his slide presentation is overloaded, unorganized, and confusing. If you try to go back into the slides and learn for yourself, you will be confused about how he got to the answers.
Tim is just the sweetest guy. He's not the most articulate which can make his logic hard to follow, but he puts effort into his lectures and tries to make things fun. I thought OTM 451 was very doable with 3 exams and one big project that will require a good amount of studying/work but it's nothing you haven't done before.
