Uses the socratic method a bit, so you need to come to class prepared with knowledge of the reading. It was a tough class to start with but got better as the quarter went on. Would recommend, except to people who are more conservative.
Decent professor, lots of reading, expect to be depressed at times. Lots of work.... :D :O :)
Really great professor. Covers the material in an interesting way. Glad I took his class. He's pretty cute too ;)
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Probably the best professor I have had at UW thus far. Really funny, personable, and effective at teaching. You HAVE to read the textbook though or you're gonna have a bad time. Also there's an old youtube vide he did where he impersonated Mr. Rogers which is pretty much the greatest thing ever. So there is that. :)
I consider myself on the conservative side and had no problem with him and his teachings. 7:30 class time is rough but Professor McCormack does a great job of keeping you a wake!
Early start time is the worst for me, but he is informative and entertaining that it is worth it. Would recommend doing your reading or you will fall behind quickly, overall a good teacher and would recommend it.
Tim was generally entertaining, although I found myself always hoping I wouldn't make eye contact because if you did, he expected you to answer his extensive questions about the reading.
Lectures are pretty interesting. I enjoyed his enthusiasm and interactions with the class. Didn't buy the book but researched the cases online and did fine so its not that HUGE of a deal to read every single thing. Multiple choice tests are iffy at best though.
If you show up to class and are actually listening this class should be a walk in the park. His class is 2 hours long but he is full of energy and keeps the discussion flowing so you barely even notice. He is a very likable teacher and keeps discussions in class relevant to what is happening today in the world. make sure you show up to class though
Best teacher I've had since coming to college.
Amazing professor. Super funny and passionate.
Look over slides, read the good and his reading. You will do fine is you do this. He gives multiple choice exams, so they tend to trick you. He does not really teach in class, but tries to get discussing going.
Good lecturer, but lots and lots of reading to stay on top of. Willing to help out during office hours and very easy to approach. A little strange, but knows the material very well is prepared with real life situations to help put concepts into practice. Read read read the material he gives you.
Kind of rude in lecture and can be offensive but nice if you go to office hours and helpful if you reach out to him
Reading the textbook was truly essential to doing well-lectures are important too because information and cases from them do show up on midterms. At first Tim can seem a little intimidating with the way he randomly calls on you in class, but I spoke with him at the end of the quarter during office hours and he is very passionate and friendly :)
Loved his lectures! He always delved into difficult subjects and cleared them up and was very enthusiastic. I would take another class with him again in the future!
Tim is a great professor!
I really enjoyed Business Law with Tim McCormack. I took it at 7:30 in the morning and he made it pretty easy to get up and go to class. Lectures were entertaining and he is really passionate about the class. You honestly need to just read the book and you'll be fine, he only quizzes off of the book and its all pretty straightforward.
Great Professor! Go to lecture, review the slides, you will do well on the test. Loved the class. Getting up at 7:00 was brutal but the class was beyond worth it. I mean who else is going to swear up a hilarious storm at 7:30 AM? HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Not an easy class at all, but Tim is a great lecturer who tries his best to make all topics interesting! Going to his office hours is incredibly helpful, and reading the textbook is a must
Tim is a great professor. I like him as a person but not so much of his class but that's only because of all the materials you have to know for finals. If you need to take this class or want to learn about it, I would recommend for you to take it with him. This class is hard but at least you will enjoy going to the lectures.
Lectures were fun and engaging. Tim did a great job at showing up enthusiastic every single time despite the 7:30 time slow. He knew his material incredibly well and made it fun in the process. Great class. Tests are kinda tricky though.
Tim is a really funny, he always has some way to keep the class interested and entertained. He covers the material well and does a great job involving the class in the discussion. There wasn't a single day where I felt bored because you have to pay attention to keep up with the pace of the learning. MGMT 200 isn't easy, but Tim does a great job.
This class is very immersive, applicable, and entertaining, especially if you enjoy law. Even if you don't, Tim makes the lectures hands-on and is hilarious! His evident passion for and strong knowledge of the material kept us involved and made law come to life in the world around us. Lessons are carefully crafted and based heavily on the reading.
I took this class at 7:30 in the morning and Tim was the only thing that made it worthwhile. He made lecture exciting and was incredibly knowledgeable. He's great at explaining. Beware though, he does do the socratic method when teaching to a whole new degree, so you must go to class prepared.
Tim's probably in my top five professors at UW and I'm a senior. Lectures helped me understand the material and why it's relevant to my life. Definitely a worthwhile class. 7:30 AM start time got the better of me after the last pop quiz though and I gave up going to class. Probably cost me a good chunk of points on the final.
Very good lecturer who is passionate about teaching. Don't think I could have handled the class at 7:30 if he wasn't as excited as he was. Definitely one of the better professors I've had
Tim is probably one of the best professors I've had. He's knowledgable, concise, & pretty good at explanations. It's been one of the most time consuming classes I've taken due to all the reading & the difficulty of tests, but if you put in effort, you'll get a good grade. The interest level also depends on how interesting you find business law.
Great professor! Lectures are fun and engaging. As long as you show up to class and pay attention, you will get a good grade.
Tim is not one of those teachers that is out to get you, although the course is challenging (as expected) he is very helpful. Study hard, the tests are challenging, but he gives other work to pad the grades! If you mess up once or twice, he is there to help you out!! He understands his students and is very helpful when you want it!
This class is the hardest class that I had ever taken, but I suppose that it is not because of Tim, but the material itself is hard. He wrote A LOT of tricky questions, but if you go over them again, they seem reasonable. Beware, do not expect to challenge the questions because what he says is Define.
I don't even think McCormack reads over the book, his test questions contradict what is written in the textbook. His grading is very subjective. His TAs do all of his work for him. He doesn't care. Grading scale is so off- each multiple choice question is worth 5 points or more. Need to know 800+ pg textbook, supplemental reading, &lectures to pass
Get ready to read a 800 page book, plus additional readings. His lectures are scary because he could call on you and expect you to know the answer in front of 150 people. His tests are subjective and his explanations for them do not match what he talked about previously/the book readings that he purposefully assigned. DO NOT buy the additional book
Tim is one of the best instructors I have had. The class is fun, but there is a substantial amount of reading, and you have to read to pass.
The class is fun but there is a ton of reading and it's basically all memorization once you understand the concepts. He's willing to help when you come to office hours and is a really interesting person. Very straightforward class.
I loved Tim! His MGMT200 class was one of my favorites so far at UW, and I would happily take him for another class. He was intimidating in that he cold calls in lectures, but that combined with pop quizzes forces you to actually learn the material. His TA's (shout out to Tori and Joe) were the bomb. Totally recommend.
The way the class is set up is really tough. Tim is awesome and works hard so that the students understand the content. He is really fun and makes the lectures very interesting. Tests are tough, but he gives many opportunities to ask questions and clarify things you don't know. Make sure you take at least one class with him!
One of the more enjoyable classes. Prof is funny and pretty chill but tests are hard and challenging. There are 5 pop quizzes and numerous other assignments. Reading is a MUST. I managed to keep up every class and got a good grade (so far). Guest speakers are insightful and relevant. Syllabus tend to change which suck PS He reads Ratemyprof.
Pros: Tim gives extremely interesting and engaging lectures. He's laugh-out-loud funny, and I'm astounded by his experience with different cases and other professional endeavors. Cons: Tests basically evaluate how well you can memorize an entire textbook, and your grade is entirely dependent on class statistics. Hard to study for, too competitive.
best. teacher. ever. Tim is funny and insightful; you only need to read the cases and show for class. If you participate in class once or twice, he will make a point to try and help you succeed.
Competitive class but as long as you do most of the reading, go to class, and review the lectures slides before the exam, you should be fine. It's really not that hard to get a good grade if you put the time into it. Tests are pretty difficult though.
Honestly one of the worst professors I've ever had. He expects you to know an unreasonable amount of information, and doesn't even mention a large portion of it in class. He hardly teaches you any of the concepts--he'll just say "you should know this" at best. Extremely tough test questions, all multiple choice. Would not recommend this professor.
This class was very frustrating for me, as I put in a lot of effort and saw no results. Constantly in lecture he says that you should know the information but will not expand any further. If you want to do well on tests, you will need to teach yourself all the information. Take this class with a different professor so you don't ruin your GPA
Tim's a great professor. While the recent posters here have said otherwise, he really does go out of his way to make people succeed. His lectures are informative and entertaining. With that being said, there is a lot of work you must do for this class. In fact, all the MGMT 200 classes are difficult to the bone. STAY ON TOP OF YOUR WORK!
Tim is an inspirational lecturer and his lectures are quite entertaining. There are 4 pop quizzes so you have to go to class, but you wouldn't want to miss class anyway, because he covers so much in each one. His tests are ridiculously hard, but the class is graded on a curve. Just don't expect a 4.0 out of this class.
Tim is hilarious but also a bit intimidating at times when he cold-calls in class. You definitely need to read A TON. Tests/pop quizzes are really difficult. I stayed on top of my readings and am banking on a 3.2 in the class. Half the class is understanding material but the other is how good you are at deciphering the test questions.
He'll make you laugh, but don't let that fool you because he's evil... he decreased my whole section's grades by .2 grade points one week after grades were finalized and didn't give an explanation as to why. Doesn't update syllabus&does whatever he wants e.g. 150 question final w/ impossible questions& it was supposed to be only 50 questions
He decided my class was "too smart" after the 1st midterm so he decided to double the amount of questions on the 2nd midterm& then he created the hardest test he has ever created for our final. He literally told us that before we started the test. Worked my ass of for a 3.7 and then he dropped everyone's GPA by .2 for no reason...
I took MGMT with Tim in the Fall of 2015. He is passionate about what he does, cares about students as individuals, and is never afraid to stir the pot in order to stimulate authentic discussion. Due to the large volume of information in that class, I find that I remember a lot of what I learned because of the amount of time spent working.
Impossible to get a 3.7+ out of this class. Based on my grades I should have gotten a 3.8 or higher in any other class but Tim apparently loves to make tests as hard as he can and when our class still does well, he lowers everyones gpa by .2.
Tim is very informative in class, reading is important but you can skate by with a decent grade if you just show up to class every day and do the essays without reading every night. He cares about his students and is entertaining in lecture
Exams are really hard and impossible to pass. Professor is not helpful and supportive at all. I dont feel like he cares about his students enough and is really hard to approach. Can sometimes be unreasonable as well.
Timothy McCormack is arguably one of the greatest professors at UW. Students will often complain that he's a tough grader and that his class is difficult, however, if students read the text book they'll do just fine. Most importantly, listen to what he has to say! Everything you learn in his course pertains to life knowledge. DO HIS MOCK TRIAL!
I like Tim, he's definitely a guy I would like to have a beer with. I learned a lot in the class and it definitely piqued my interest in law. While he is a great lecturer, he is not very accessible outside of class and provides no feedback on essays or quizzes. You WILL need to do your readings every day and you WILL need to show up to class.
Hes funny but the tests are difficult. Super interesting lectures, I learned a lot.
You will have to read and memorize A LOT.
He makes going to class enjoyable. Even if he didn't give pop quizzes, I would go to every lecture (most likely). My other classes were dry and boring but his class was a breathe of fresh air. Not sure how Ill do on the final but so far the class hasn't killed my gpa so thats nice.
Although it doesn't always seem like Tim knows what's going to be on the next lecture slide, he delivers highly entertaining and informative lectures. Tim manages to make business law interesting and has been one of my favorite teachers. However beware of pop quizzes and difficult exams.
Take this class with Tim. Best professor I have had at UW, it is not as difficult as it is made out to be.
Tim's lecture is the most interesting lecture I've ever taken. He explains every points clearly in a humorous way. The guest speeches are highly recommended to show up because he'll test on these and there are no records for the speeches. If you are a international student, you might spend lots of time on reading and interpreting the materials.
I enjoyed the class because the material is so relevant and useful in real life. Tim is a good professor, he keeps things fun. Dont be afraid to speak up in class because it makes the classes more interesting if there are discussions.
Good Professor. Keeps you engaged and learning and is really passionate about the material. Reading the textbook is necessary but if you do that the class is pretty easy. True/False and Multiple Choice tests and quizzes.
Pros: Interesting lectures, funny, tries his best to make material as interesting as possible. Top 10% gets 4.0 policy Cons: Midterm and finals are hard. Readings are mandatory, or screwed. There's no actual way to prepare for tests other than knowing overall material/textbook (cumulative final). Would not recommend if GPA is at stake
Tim is a really great lecturer. I never fell asleep during lecture because his voice was very lively. However, this class is SO HARD! The reading takes a lot of time and there is too much information to memorize. (100 pages of reading per week) The midterm and the final is very difficult, but the class is graded on a curve. Memorizing is KEY!
Have to come to every lecture, anticipating a pop quiz because it's randomly given at any time during class on any day. The class has A LOT OF INFORMATION, and the lectures will feel like hours long. Written assignments are somewhat okay, but you don't really get any feedback so you don't know why they dock you 5 points. Just read, study, and read.
I really enjoyed this class and how much Tim engaged with the class. We were free to express our own opinions. This was a class about business ethics, so I appreciated how he did not make the class straightforward and memorization based. If you like lively discussion, a mental challenge, and a professor who cares this is a great class to take.
A lot of people warned me about taking mgmt with him, but I really enjoyed the class! I had heard it was a lot of reading, but it was not as bad as anticipated and was spread throughout several days. There are 4 quizzes (drop the lowest), two 1-page papers, midterm and final. Make flashcards and avoid being called on! Great professor overall.
Lots of reading, difficult quizzes and exam, and a lot of information to digest in a single quarter if you're in his B Law class However, amazing class, amazing lecturer, and cool material. You'll work your ass off but it'll be worth it.
Tim is a great lecturer. Even as a two hour 8:30am class, I looked forward to coming every time because he makes the material so interesting. He is funny, charismatic, and passionate. He gives 4.0 to the top 10% of the class but very difficult to receive a good grade. Lots of reading, difficult exams, tough grading for papers with no feedback.
McCormack was a very intelligent professor. He made lectures interesting and fun. I recommend reading before class so you are able to take note and understand his lectures. There is a lot of information to know so don't save studying till last minute. He is a very approachable professor and wants his students to do their best so reach out.
Hands down best professor I've ever had. Made 2 hour lectures interesting. Difficult class and tons of reading (which is a necessity) but it is manageable. Tests are extremely difficult and sometimes questions are poorly worded/ not proofread. Regardless, The work is worth the level of education and knowledge learned in this class.
I don't understand the benefits of this grading system. Tim makes the quizzes and exams really hard so everyone scores really low and then sets the median class grade to 3.0 and gives top 10% 4.0 GPA's. I spent the entire quarter worried I was going to fail the class because I got F's and D's on the quizzes and exams and a C and B on the papers.
Even though I had it was an early morning class, he would make the lecture fun, but grading in the class in very unclear. He gives top 10% of the class 4.0, but there is no way of knowing if you are in top 10% or not. This course covers a lot of materials in a very short period, so don't wait till the last moment to start studying.
Tim is a good guy but this class is hard. There's about 650 pages of reading in 10 weeks and the reading is entirely mandatory if you want to do well. The quizzes and tests are insanely hard, averages were usually high 50% to low 60%. Essays are pretty easy, just follow the instructions exactly. Read the book.
Mccormack is enthusiastic but has a ton of readings. The quizzes and tests are entirely multiple choice which makes the class easier but without reading you will do poorly.
He smiles a lot, I think it's because he enjoys watching us suffer. He is pretty cruel... the quizzes and exams are crazy difficult and he assigns A LOT of mandatory reading from our dense textbook. The class also has no quiz/CLUE sessions and he cancels office hours a lot. He is very strict on his policies. I learned a ton and it was interesting.
Lectures are loud and boring . Depends heavily on the slides and a lot of rote learning is involved in remembering different cases, and he will question you about those details and if you get something wrong on the pop quiz -2. you get -1 for not trying and 1 for getting it right.
He is so unorganized. He forgets what lectures we cover or speeds through lecture because he is so behind. Tells you something is going to be on the test, but it's not. If you ask what's going to be on the test, it's everything. Strict on his rules, but forgets them too. Especially stuff on the papers. Syllabus says 30 min for quiz, given 20 mins.
Tim is a hoot. First few lectures people don't laugh at his jokes and he will be disappointed but its ok, it gets better. He finds humor in learning Administrative Law at 8:00 am. All the quizzes and tests are horribly hard, but everyone does bad. The top 10% of the class gets a 4.0 and it goes down from there.
Lectures are 2 hours long, he keeps it upbeat by being loud, which is appreciated, but are almost entirely on slides. Slides are based on the textbook, which you will have to read for about 3 hours every day or every other day. Tests are incredibly difficult and there is no guidance on what will be tested other than "everything is fair game".
Extremely long, boring lectures where he just reads off the slides. Basically a self-taught class with no homework and minimal guidance to what will be on the quizzes and tests. He doesn't care about the grades you get and doesn't feel that this course is important, so he doesn't hesitate to give you a bad grade. Tests are extremely difficult.
He's a good person, but is not very approachable. He picks on people in class and calls people out. Be prepared for class by knowing ALL cases (there's a lot). The tests are all multiple choice, and all very very difficult. He knows his stuff, but he goes through it all really fast so it's on you to learn class content out of class.
This was a really hard class, basically a full time job. I learned more content in this class than any other class. Tim is qualified, smart, and funny but is he kind?? It was laughably cruel. Made me want to cry sometimes. 10/10 would recommend. If you read this Tim, Im suing you for intentional infliction of emotional distress. Great class.
Tim is an amazing lecturer, he's funny yet gets through the course material and really knows his stuff. The quizzes/ exams were extremely difficult, and unfortunately the majority of your GPA. There's no homework, just A LOT of reading and no guidance on what's on the tests. The TAs do not help with anything.
Tim is a very good lecturer, he knows how to keep a class entertained and gives information in an engaging way. Takes a lot of questions which is a good thing. He didn't stay on schedule with the course which was really hard and we ended up falling way behind what he planned towards the end. Super reading heavy, but a really good class in the end
Tim is a very intelligent professor and his lectures are very entertaining. He's very professional and loves to make funny comments to keep his students involved. About 600 pages of dense reading, but doable if you stay on track. Also, gives outlines. Grades are based on rank in class, the top 10% receive 4.0. Huge weed supporter. :)
I am so glad I chose Tim's class, because he has a lot of personality that makes his lectures very interesting. The course content was very practical and applicable for future business students. Success in the class requires staying on top of readings, engaging in lectures, going in with an open mind, and applying the material to the real world.
While Professor McCormack has a great personality, and definitely knows what he is talking about, I found his lectures to be subpar. He often fell behind, and rushed through most of the material due to time constraints. Additonally, exams are taken through canvas in class, and you are not able to review them.
Interesting guy with more interesting lectures. Lectures were largely repeats of the textbook, so be ready to read. Tests were cumulative and on canvas.
Tim is an amazing professor, but his grading framework was very unclear, especially for essays. He's a hilarious person & loves participation. We fell super behind on lectures & reading, and a few days before the midterm he said 3 chapters we hadn't covered were on the test. Solid choice, but there was so much potential to make this a great class.
Excellent personality, barely above average prof. Fell 3 lectures behind schedule, but were still expected to know about it for the quizzes and tests. He doesn't give back tests or essays so you have no idea what you got wrong and how to improve. Make sure you pick a good group for your group projects. Lectures are long but can be entertaining.
Does a great job at making his lectures stimulating, cares about his students' learning. Makes sure you work hard for the course; be sure to participate, exhibit professionalism. He enjoys discussions--active learning--no matter how big the class is. Participating helps, and keep up with the textbook! Rough course, but very rewarding.
McCormack is an interesting guy... honestly, just have to take the class to know what I mean. Lots of reading, so stay on schedule. The class work ended up being easier than expected, but at first seemed daunting. The quizzes don't affect your grade and T/F questions don't minus points for wrong answers. I would highly recommend this professor.
Pros -Anonymous excel sheet showing entire student ranking, complete transparency -Fun personality and isn't afraid to express himself -Papers are graded generously -Shark Tank Project is a lot of fun -Professional, serious, and knowledgeable -Organized Cons -Fall behind in reading and it's hell, this is on the student though
Funny/engaging prof, good at facilitating class discussion and getting people to think in legal/ethical perspectives. Lowkey ruthless when it comes to assigning reading(I read 2hr a day just to keep up). Tips? PARTICIPATE! KEEP UP WITH READING! COMMENT ON OTHERS' DISCUSSION POSTS! MAKE CONNECTIONS WITH GOOD GROUP PROJECT MEMBERS! Good luck!!!!
To do well, you have to read the textbook. The lectures are fun, and participating can boost your grade at the end, but when it comes to tests you must have specific knowledge from the textbook. Don't panic it seems like you aren't doing well. I have a 3.2 in Canvas but because it's graded on a steep curve I received a 3.9.
Very funny and entertaining but also ruthless when it comes to grading. There's a LOT of reading to this class and the textbook is expensive. Took this at the end of my freshmen year and was the hardest UW class I've taken so far.
Tim is a solid professor. The lectures were entertaining. Grading on the exam essays, group papers, and presentation is very lenient. However, he is quite unorganized and a very slow grader. Didn't get feedback for papers/exams until the last couple weeks of the quarter. Participation is very important.
I enjoyed Tims class. He is an engaging and entertaining lecturer who is really passionate about the subject matter, which is always a positive. There are a lot of difficult assignments that require a significant amount of time, especially the readings, but success is attainable. The grade matrix is super nice to have. Overall, Id recommend Tim!
The class is straightforward and easy if you can follow directions. Essays are 100% guaranteed if you match the guidelines. Midterm and final are by far the most important part of the grade, and if you have to read if you want to do well on them. Make sure to do the extra credit.
Took this class over the summer, wasn't very hard but you need to study really hard for midterm/final. TONS of reading. Offers lots of extra credit. Tim is a very disorganized man but a very nice guy and makes lectures interesting/fun
The volume of reading is massive and you must stay on top of it. But if you read, take notes, and actively participate (which you should for professionalism points) you will do great. The assignments all have clear-cut criteria, so read carefully. Use his lecturers to put your memory on the spot and practice, even if he can be scary at times.
The last clown to write a review has no idea what they're talking about. BCMU301 was one of the most fun classes I've taken at UW. It was his trial run of the class so stuff was a little disorganized but getting an A is almost hard not to do. Very engaging lectures and most of class was activities vs. lectures. Would take again 10/10 love u Timmy
From an international student's point of view, this course is extremely hard for me. There are a lot of readings due before each class that I need to spend hours reading, which I gave up after the first week. There are discussion forums due almost every week but they are interesting, although I always got 20/25 and didn't receiver feedback at all.
Honestly, this class really depends on what you make of it. There are a lot of group projects so keep that in mind. My group reached out to Tim many times and got really good feedback every single time. He's pretty direct with his feedback but he says everything with good intentions. He has a lot of experience in the real world, fun guy overall.
I heard a lot of warnings about this class before I enrolled, but I was pleasantly surprised. Don't get me wrong, it's a tough class--there's a lot of assignments due every week and the curve is hard--but Tim made it fun. The content is applicable to your life and the class is overall enjoyable. Would recommend Tim if you plan on taking MGMT200!
By far the best class to take at the University of Washington. One tip I can give is to force yourself to sit in the front for the lectures. There's is a huge load of readings, however, he gives hidden outlines on canvas that can almost substitute 99% of the readings. Take this class! You won't regret it.
The challenges from this class come from the amount of materials and the reading we have to do to succeed. If you keep up with the reading and get help whenever you need you should do fine. Tim is great but sometimes he spend too much time answering question and weren't able to go through all the materials.
great lecturer and strong material
Tims lectures are amazing and engaging, however he leaves a lot to be desired in terms of course organization and clear grading criteria. I finished this class with a 94% on canvas yet was given a 3.3 instead of the 3.7 I deserved. At the end of the day, a fair grader matters more than a good lecturer do not take. Also never responds to emails.
A lot of reading, a lot of work. As you can tell, your grade will end up poor despite doing well because the nature of his class pits you against a hundred other students. The curve does seem to be harsh. Besides the grading, he is a great lecturer. So if you aren't afraid of lowering your GPA and you have the mental effort available, he's great.
He was never responsive. His directions on the assignment were very confusing. He also has a weird grading criterion which seems more likely to drive your GPA down if you're working as a team with poor students no matter how well you can do individually. No group evaluation available.
Tim is an eccentric professor who always gives an entertaining lecture. It was a challenging first online quarter all around, so his availability was par for the course in the virtual world. Hes a tough grader on writing assignments and presentations, but hes a straight shooter and very personable. I would recommend his class!
MGMT200 is a hard class. I took it with Tim over the summer with only about 20 students in the class. We were able to do small group exercises and really dig into the cases we discussed in class. Disclaimer - I actually did the reading. That's really the only way you'll get a decent grade in any mgmt class. Tim is a good guy - get to know him.
Great teacher, teaches a hard subject so what do expect of course there is going to be a lot of work. Rubrics could be clearer but with the lack of clarity I was able to basically right my papers on anything that could connect to the podcasts that we were listening too, really allowed me to do a lot of outside research and understand the subject.
Tim is a really knowledgeable, interesting, and passionate professor. I enjoyed the small group discussions, and the way he ran the course was really engaging. The rubrics for certain assignments were unclear, and there were a few lectures where he rushed through slides so it was hard to absorb the material. Need to put in the work. Solid choice
Tim is an interesting and caring professor. I enjoyed the coursework and projects we did virtually. This course taught beyond business communication; it also helps develop professionalism and strangely learn a ton about the environment. It is not an 'easy' course, but 100% worth it. This has been my favorite course at UW. Great choice!
The most common criticism I hear about Tim is his blunt/harsh style; however, in my opinion, he simply tells you what you need to hear. If you were preparing for a huge public speaking event, Tim is the guy you want critiquing you. Overall, I highly recommend Tim - he was one of my favorite professors. Very qualified and cares about students.
Everyone tells you not to take MGMT 200 at UW. This is my favorite class and it is probably because of Tim. He is awesome, definitely go to class and participate because at the end of the quarter he can bump up ur grade. If you study you will do great of the exams, know the cases. Don't leave studying to the last minute and you will be fine.
Tim's a great guy, really funny, and makes class super entertaining but he's not a good professor. Class was disorganized and he had poor communication with his TAs and students. Went on a lot of tangents. It's possible to do well if you participate in class, go to lecture, and do all the readings. Study in advance. Headache of a class.
Tim cares about his students and their success, and teaches with a blunt, honest feedback. I learned a level of professionalism that other courses lack. This course is a lot of work, but one of the classes that has taught me the most. Classes are always super fun and interactive. 100% would take another class with Tim. So happy I took this class.
Tim's BCMU class was one of the best and most applicable classes I've ever taken. This class is no joke; Tim will make you work, but it's well worth it. His blunt and honest (and sometimes brutal) feedback is a diamond in the bubble-wrapped mine that is today's society.
People might think his lectures are unnecessary but u should still go b/c he will test on things that he only says during lecture. Very content heavy but the midterm and final were within reasonable difficulty. If u don't read... U WILL FAIL. There are chances at +0.2 bump if you go to class/participate. can get sidetracked sometimes but overall ok
Goes on rants but if something is not covered in class, he NEVER tests on it In class u can persuade him to drop topics. curve is crazy but if u can understand rules, applications, damages/defenses, exams will be good. there's ch quizzes, 3 discussions, 1 paper, 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 group project extra bump for class participation. great content!
Tim is a really knowledgeable and fun professor. He genuinely tries to make class fun, and encourages student feedback (which he listens to). My only complaint is that his organization is very poor, due dates were consistently wrong and there was rarely information on assignments or quizzes. Besides that, study hard for exams and remember cases.
Honestly, he sucks as a professor, and is the worst professor I have ever had. Students want to be so different and say that they love his teaching style, but when it comes down to it, the class is extremely disorganized. The class is lecture heavy, but what are you even suppose to take notes on??
You ask him a question on and he answers back while not even answering the question. Spends majority of lecture answering students questions/ talking about topics that are pointless. We spent a total of 15 minutes out of 1 hr 50 min lecture reviewing for the midterm on the day that was meant for only midterm preparation.
If you are a person who does best in the traditional class format of lectures, McCormack isn't your guy. Classes are honestly just optional, you can get all you need from the textbooks since he doesn't discuss much during class, it's all a tangent. Course organization is pretty bad and you don't get much time to review.
Tim, as a person, is a really cool guy. Encouraging different viewpoints and not shying away from especially controversial topics is an admirable teaching method. Too many screw ups in organization and tidiness makes MGMT 200 miserable, however. Don't go to lectures unless you're into law as a subject. Otherwise, stick to the textbook.
Ignore all of the other comments in this rate my professor. Great professor, anyone who says otherwise isn't trying hard enough or is expecting too much. As the latest up-to-date review, I genuinely enjoyed learning what had to be taught, which partially biases my response. It's just the class has a good workload, will stress you out. Great class.
