WORST HISTORY PROFESSOR EVER!
awesome, awesome, awesome guy! He is clear and so intelligent.
if he were any more boring, my head would explode !
MAD boring!!!but take notes and you will do well!!
EXCELLENT a prof. all must take. HE is exremelly intellegent. I learned so much in his class. He makes you want to study HISTORY.
People who say he's boring are idiots. He is one of the best history professors. His lectures are enlightening. He's also got a Ph. D. from Harvard so he's worked with the best. After a few lectures, you'll start to appreciate his approach to history.
Professor ****ord is super intelligent,i knew there was something different in his teaching style and wasn't surprised at all when i found out he's got a PhD from Harvard. He's a really nice guy, very clear and very helpful...and he's pretty cute too. =)
Harvard grad, humerous, well structured class, firm grasp on subject
Boring!
out of touch
Wonderful, joy to be in his class.
Great Professor
take notes and write good papers that answer an intelligent/interesting historical argument.
he is a little boring, but you only have 2 papers all semester, reading as homework and midterm and a final which he gives the essays and vocab too...definitly take him!
very cool, can be borring at times...fair grader
Great guy, great professor. He knows what he's talking about, and gets his point across very well. Fair, insightful, grader. You will learn a lot and enjoy the class. Dry sense of humor is amusing.
very cool guy.. definitely knows what hes talking about..easy to listen to, even if sometimes the topics can be boring..minimal work/effort
Very informative lectures. He's very knowledgeable and you will learn. There's an essay, a research paper, and a midterm/final. He gives you the q's for the exam in advance but you have to do a very through job to get a good grade.
HE TALKS ALOT BUT HE'S VERY HELPFUL..HE GIVES YOU THE QUESTIONS TO THE MIDTERM AND FINAL A WEEK IN ADVANCE AND THERES ONE PAPER AND NO HW...I LIKE HIM THATS WHY I TOOK HIM LIKE 3 TIMES ALREADY!
extremely informative. This man knows his stuff. Catching his small puns in class makes for some fun too. If you are serious about learning History (american) Take his class.
hes pretty easy compared to the other history prof at st. johns. he knows his stuff and he makes it easy for his students too. hes also cute too lol
HE IS VERY GOOD AND FAIR WHEN IT COMES TO GRADING YOU WILL A LOT IN HIS CLASS HE IS ALSO CUTE
He's a really cool prof. He knows every event of every century by heart. Oh, and he's cute ;-)
Extremely intriguing professor. I took one of his graduate level courses, and though there was a lot of reading, the class instruction and discussion was excellent. I'm sure his undergraduate classes are just as interesting. I highly recommend this professor.
I learned a lot in this class. Normally, i fall asleep in a lecture class like this, but for some reason I didn't for this term. 2 very fair tests and a paper. Definitely a teacher worth taking.
Very knowledgeable. Not difficult. Highly recommended. No HW, 2 papers, 2 exams. Note taking is a must.
Very intriguing man, even on the 1st day of class. Very intellectual, given to the fact that he's been to Duke for his B.S. & Harvard for his Ph.D. Very nice guy, need to take good notes and lots of reading.
awesome..knows his stuffs take his class and ull know what i am talking about. fair grader. essays are graded strictly, but exams and midterms are easy and gives the review sheet. i got an A in the class.
Very cool professor. Fair grader. Gives 2 papers, a midterm and final. He gives you the study topics for the tests, all you need to do is remember the stuff and write an essay, which is also given ahead of time. I would take him again if I could.
Dr. ****ord is an amazing speaker. He knows his stuff, and he is passionate about U.S history. If you really want to learn about U.S history, take any of his courses. You will learn a lot. He gives 2 papers (1 short: 5 pages and 1 long: 10 pages)He gives u the exams (terms and essays) ahead of time. you need to study a lot though. Nice guy.
his exams are good bcuz he gives u the stuff in advance.. and you just memorize whatever u can. but, he grades harshly on the papers... u really really gotta do well on his papers in order to get an A. he can b boring, but he knows everything. u gotta do a lot of reading. he's cute to look at so i wasn't so bored at times.
He's a fair grader, overall; tests are fair since he gives u the questions ahead of time. Harsh on the papers though. He's charismatic but lectures, which makes him boring but he's very cute to look at and he's funny if he talks about his passion for movies.
He's a very elaborate speaker which makes it interesting to listen. He gives two exams, but he also gives out the review sheets for the exams. He's also a fair grader and a very helpful man. Overall, this is the guy to look for if you want to study US history without worrying or getting alot of hassle about your grades.
He only gives two papers and two tests so you have to do good on all four of them to get a good grade. I hate history but he lectures so clearly that he makes it seem like one big story. Overall, he is a good speaker but it's a boring subject matter.
genius....brilliant.....elaborate.......basically gives answers before tests......if you do not get at least a B in his class you are a moron....
hes soooo smart, know wut hes talkin about. Fair grader, u don't need the texts, just come to his class and u can do well on the tests, it helps to be a good writer since hes tough with grading the essays, but its possible to get an A, i did.
This is the guy to look for when taking American History. He's so eloquent and so easy to relate to. Definetly one of the best professors in the school.
Unquestionably the smartest prof in St. Johns. Two essay, a midterm and a final. He gives questions for the tests, but grades hard. U must be a good writer to get an A.
good professor, very smart, but class is as boring as watching the clock tick. he's a non stop lecturer so their is barely any class discussion. however you do learn alot and he really isn't as hard a grader as everyone is implying. i got A- on both the papers and i am a terrible writer, just make sure the you research the material well.
The man is a genius. He can answer any historical question about anything. If you are a HIS major dont graduate with out taking 1 of his classes. 2 fair papers and he hands out copies of the Midterm/final the day before so you can study right off the exam. Bring coffee or a laptop because he likes to talk. Excellent class not easy but worth it.
Do yourself a favor and dont even bother reading his assignments unless youre actually interested, he says participation is worth 15% of your grade but it seems he doesnt even take it into account when he determines your final grade. Otherwise he is awesome and its easy to get over how boring he can be just because hes so good looking.
He makes up for every bad teacher at this school. The man is brilliant and he teaches history the way it should be taught, as one long story. Bring a red bull or 2 since he can be boring, but you wont regret staying awake since you will learn so much. Dont worry so much about notes he talks to much to write it all down. Midterm/Final + 2 papers
he knows everything, can be boring over time but it's definitely worth taking, two essays, a midterm and a final which were given review sheets ahead of time, fair grader......and above all, he's sooooo good looking!
I have learned more from this man than every other teacher at SJU combined. He is brilliant, articulate and funny. His class can get boring when he gets deep into telling the story but ask him a random historical question and hell answer it in an interesting way. Midterm & Final arent bad he gives out the questions & has a review. Papers are vague.
How SJU ever landed a professor of his quality is beyond me. Highest recommendation.
If there was a God it would be Prof. Milford. He's a Genius
Amazing! Do not graduate without taking him. He is the most brilliant professor I have ever met, by far the best. Extremely nice and helpful - even if you need help in other classes. I have taken him 3 times and try to take him every semester. Fair grader - 2 papers, 1 long & 1 short - easy midterm and final, gives you all the answers in the review
He is the best professor at STJ! I took the mixed mode course and it was awesome. He is very helpful and understanding if things go wrong or you can't make it to class. He gives a review for the midterm and final so they are not hard at all. He knows his stuff, which makes me wonder how STJ got him at all.
This is the smartest man you will ever meet in your life. An absolute genius, he should be lecturing at Harvard or Yale or something. I literally sat on the edge of my seat all semester. If you zone out or your bored then you are only screwing yourself because this prof is worth every second of class time that you paid for.
Easily the most brilliant man I have ever had the honor to learn from. Learned more from him than all the other history professors together. Best teacher at the school. Easy Tests and papers. TAKE THIS CLASS!
The best educator I have ever had the privilege of learning from. He's clear in his grading and his teaching. I plan to take as many courses as possible from this professor.
this is the best professor i have had so far at my time at St. John's. this man is a walking encyclopedia of history. so glad i took this class. give a midterm & final (easy & gives out study guides a week prior) and 2 papers (first one was 5 pages, second was 7-10). great professor. take him if u can.
Nice and smart professor. He wants people to do the readings, but no one ever does, and it's aggravating to those of us who do. 2 papers, 1 midterm, and 1 final.
He literally wrote the book on colonial history. He is the smartest person you will ever meet in your life. STJ should mandate that every student take him once, that way you will feel like your education is worthwhile.
Probably the best professor I have ever had. I learned more in his class than in any of the other classes I took on the same topic. He is so knowledgeable about his area of expertise and explains it well. He is a fair grader too and the amount of work isn't that much. Take him!
Excellent course and an excellent professor, he without a doubt knows his stuff. There are some seriously bad professors at SJU but he's amongst the best, without a doubt I don't even know how they even came across him because he should be teaching in the Ivy's or at least a 'public ivy.' It's an easy course but lots of reading but it's all good.
Loved this class, it was difficult, but I actually learned a lot. Great man, take him if you can.
Pro.Milford is great! He gives two tests and two papers which he bases the grades on. Gives review sheet/outline of what will be on test so I didn't read any of the books required except one he based a paper on. He's very helpful and you can def get an A as long as you do the work! Bring computer because class can get boring at times, but he's such a smart/interesting man!

Do not miss his class or you will regret it. He has the voice of Mufasa, is as chill as Kingsley Shacklebolt & as smooth as Luke Skywalker! He's a legend.
You literally do not have to do anything for his class. One midterm and one final but he gives an extremely thorough review. If you memorize everything on the review, you're good to go. There only 2-3 papers that must be 5 pages each. He's very clear in answering questions. Don't need to do any readings.
2 easy papers a midterm and a final. Gives review sheets that if you study the night before you should be fine. Assigns readings each night (on class days) but i never did them because he went over the content in class. Pretty easy course.
Incredibly easy. Tests are easy and he gives a review sheet. Only like 2 papers to write and one of them was only 2 pages long. Lectures are a bit boring but its not the worse thing. He has reading but you really dont need to read all of it. You should read for the discussion however
His class is fairly easy. Assigns readings every week but they are neither mandatory nor essential. Lectures are a bit monotonous but still somewhat interesting. Only graded materials are the two papers and the midterm and final. He knows a great deal about the entire history of the world, which is a lot. Also can go off on interesting tangents
The entire class is lecture, not very interactive. He is very intelligent but sometimes the lectures were boring. Midterm, Final and 2 papers. He gives review sheets before the tests which are helpful. Definitely not an easy A but it is possible.
This class is the most boring class i ever taken. The entire class just sits on their computer watching youtube videos. Essays are impossoble test are easy though
The whole class sits on their laptops waiting for the lecture to end, not an engaging class& hard to stay awake. Participation is 15% of the grade so go to class. Although he gives a review sheet for the midterm and final, it doesn't help. The tests are all writing (8-10 ids)&one essay, very subjective to grade. Glad it's over, I don't recommend.
Probably one of the best professors I've ever had. He's very knowledgeable and gives a lot of lectures. Every class was a lecture where he was going over the readings from the night before. Gave study guides for midterms and finals, which basically had everything you needed for the test. Manageable class if you do the work he gives you. TAKE HIM!
He assigns papers without explaining the topics. Very harsh grader on both test and papers wouldn't take him again.
He's s great professor. Very accessible outside class. I love his Darth Vader like booming voice. Most students of his keep taking his classes again & again.
I wouldn't recommend. Harsh grader who ruined my perfect gpa with an A- in this core class which has nothing to do with my major. Thanks professor
The class is all lecture where Professor just talks the whole time. You don't have to do the reading that is assigned for homework because he talks about it in class. The test's and essay's are hard and he is a very hard grader.
Very good professor. Long lectures where he talks about everything from the readings not expecting anyone to know anything from them haha. only two papers a midterm and a final, nothing too difficult definitely passable for all.
His lectures are interesting. You should do the reading because he asks about it in class, but you don't have to do it. When no one knows the answer he just keeps talking. His tests aren't too hard, but on essays he's a really tough grader. 1 midterm, 1 final, a 3-4 page essay and an 8-10 page essay.
His lectures are really interesting if you like history. There is a lot of reading and he does ask about it in class. He is really nice and always reminds the class that he is available for help when he assigns a paper (2 per semester- 4 pgs and 7 pgs). He also gives a study guide for his midterm and final. If you take good notes, you'll do fine.
He lectures long, and densely, but he really loves the subject which makes it more interesting. He gives a study guide with all the test questions on it, and more. So you don't really have to go to class. He does lecture on almost every subject so it does help to go. The essays are hard, but not too horrible. It was how I wanted HON classes to be.
The best professor I ever had. Extremely fluent and knowledgeable on this era of history which happens to be my main interest and area of knowledge as well. I would highly recommend.
His lectures are the most boring thing you'll ever sit through in your entire life. There's 2 papers (he outlines specifically what he wants and they're pretty easy), a midterm and a final (he gives you an outline of what he could ask). Barely took any notes and did very well in the class. He's also very approachable!
He's well versed and knowledgeable about the content of the course. He's also very friendly and approachable. His classes tend to drag because his lectures are long boring and monotone. Luckily he allows computers to help the time pass. Theres two tests and two papers (Midterm and Final). If you could avoid taking him I would recommended it.
The only professor whose lectures aren't boring. He's always available for extra help, class is easy, 2 short papers with plenty of time to complete, he reviews for midterm and final and doesn't try to trick you with the test questions.
This man is the gem of SJU! Super nice, really smart, gives amazing lectures, plus he's handsome! Midterm & final, & 2 essays (4 pgs & 10-12). Take good notes and study and you'll do well on the tests (he gives the questions beforehand). Essays are a bit hard but an A is possible. Write well, have good primary sources, and argue a historical point.
If you learn well from lectures, take this class. Only a few essays and tests per semester. Prof is really nice and grades fairly. He assigns a lot of reading but you could still do well without it. I recommend this class.
He talks the whooooole time, but the lectures are super organized and it was easy to keep up. He was also really understanding to any tech issues when it comes to online classes. The reading wasnt necessary to keep up but it helps. We had 4 graded assignments - two tests with vocab, and two essays.
Nice professor. If you learn best from lecture heavy lessons, you should take him. In addition, if you are very good at writing essays you will do well here. If you struggle with any of these, like I did, do not take him. You need to know how to do extensive research, and as a first semester freshman, this was something I could not do well.
Prof was sweet & caring; he lectures & gives little work. He is really knowledgeable but it can be difficult to pay attention. The bad part is that you only have 4 grades but just study for the midterm & final which are so easy just memorization. Also, don't buy textbooks, unnecessary reading & not needed.
Cares a lot about history and will go on long but fun talks about the lesson of the day. You probably should buy the textbooks and read but I didn't and was fine. The entire class is just him talking about history with the occasional printed article in class. As long as you show up to class, participate sometimes and listen the class is easy.
Overall I really liked him. The class has very few grades tho so that is something to be careful of. He gives study guides to the midterm and final with the same stuff that's on the test so if you study you're good. The only thing that made this class difficult was the lack of grades.
Funny and nice guy, but lectures will be the most boring thing you will ever sit through. The class is very chill for people who have a heavy workload, he gives a great study guide for the midterm and final and the two papers we had to write were research-heavy but nothing too bad. P.S. the honors and non honors course are the exact same
Very nice chill man. Amazing voice. He is a natural at teaching and keeps it simple. Worth it.
very good
Great professor, lectures are clear and engaging. Textbook not required, but using Unstuckstudy alongside the course materials was super helpful for exam prep. Manageable workload, would take this class again.
TAKE HIM. He gives reviews for the Midterm and Final and it's the same on the test. His lectures are boring at some points but is still interesting. He does use the entire class time but it was the worst. He is very educated in what he is talking about and I respect him for that. He does everything a great professor should and more. 2 Papers (Easy)
Take this course!!! Professor Milford is extremely devoted to his work, bringing a rare combination of intellect and charisma to the classroom. His lectures are highly detailed and riveting, without the banality I became accustomed to from other professors. The two essays and exams are easy to do well on, as long as you pay attention to the guides.
Lectures are SOOOOOO BORINGGG omg it's like next to impossible to pay attention. There's no slides, no given notes. He just sits at the front of the classroom and talks for an hour and a half. He gives 2 papers and they were pretty easy and the midterm wasn't that bad.
Great professor, but very lecture heavy. Take notes on his lectures bc what he says is what he wants written on the exams(midterm & final,). No PPT to follow while he's lecturing, can be slow and boring. You also have 2 papers to do for the semester, lots of time given for both, Overall, a good professor and easy A if you study and do your papers.
