Every Eng prof. I had is crazy; maybe I should change my major!
Tim Miller is one of the most passionate and intelligent profs ive ever had
He is what you call a flat out geek!! But he is an f-n genious.
What a squirrel!!!!!!!!!!!
Weird, very weird ... intelligent, but rambles a lot
Very odd, essay tests, very repeative, goes tooo slow, if it wasn't for his energy the class would be god awful
A brilliant individual. Always willing to help. Moves slow but only because he cares about the subject. Friendly too. Check out his office, you can tell he is a genius.
He is brilliant and interesting. You'll learn a lot by taking him. He's definitely passionate about the subject and that makes you excited to learn.
It would be an easy class if he actually completed a whole thought! Difficult to follow.....gives you bad grade if you dont have EXACTLY what he wants you to write! Your not allowed to have your own opinion!
He is pretty quirky and can move slowly, but he loves what he does and you really learn a lot from him. His tests can also be somewhat difficult
wonderful guy. very intelligent! tests are easy if you learn from what he is saying. Pay attentin, READ and know the books-- and you'll do fine! Liked him so much i am going to take him for business writing.
Is this man a genious because he is unorganized? Repetative? Messy? Incompetant? I fail to see any reason to label this man as a genious. He explanations are incoherant, his tests are asinine, and he plays favorites.
Absolute genius. Incredible because he actually CARES about what he's teaching, and tries to inspire the very love of learning in students.
IF (You complete the assignments) THEN (You will pass) ELSE (You will fail) END
This guy is totally awesome. His class was insightful every day. He was able to instill some appreciation for classic literature in me. He's also really funny to listen to, I love it.
Loves the subject and gets in depth into each page of the books which can be boring at times. He is somewhat repetative, but he LOVES the subject and that can be infectious.
If you're willing to read, its an awesome class. subjects include early science fiction literature (I think star trek was mentioned maybe once at the most in passing) he shows great enthusiasm for teacing, and its clear he wants you to get a good grade
MOST AMAZING PROF I'VE EVER HAD!!! Lectures are engergized, and even if you're not interested in the topic, he makes you interested in what you have to say about it. The enthusiasim he has for his subject is catching! Genius! Helpful!
AHHHHHH thats all you will hear from him all class. Really funny. Lets you run the class if you try...if you want to leave early tell him and he'll let you. Hardly ever stayed in class the full hour 15. Be honest with him and he loves it. Take him!!!
He is very interested in the material, but he is very opinionated. The way to get a good grade is to regurgitate what he teaches in class. He is also a scatterbrain and words everything very awkwardly.
How can people like this guy? Completely crazy and obsessed with the kosmos and how being in a war makes him smart. Says AAAAAHHHH all the time.. Has aliens all over his office door. his class so boring except when you are laughing at him
He is an absolute loon! He reminds me of the MAd Tv sketch character Lorraine... Ahhh! He is uninteresting until he makes fun of himself and then he is interesting for 10 seconds... Don't worry if you have to take his class...
Dr. Miller is a very intelligent and profound man. HOWEVER, this does not qualify him as a good teacher. Every class period we take notes for 1 hour and 15 mins. Tests are basically regurgitation of EVERYTHING important in the book <keep in mind they're essay tests> It is very difficult to learn any
Dr. Miller is awesome!!!! TAKE HIM!
AHHH!! His funny stories crack me up. Test are essay but he tells you exactly what he wants. He seems sometimes in his own world but that's what I think is funny about him. No worries if you take his class, it's perfectly good. He likes it if you are honest so if you don't like something, OK
Earnestly attempts to teach with the best skills. Very detailed as he discusses the stories. Write down all of his notes and study his outlines for the essay tests. Not your typical professor---AHHHH!!!
Nice guy but really hard to follow. He gets very excited and for an English professor has a hard time speaking. For business writing he graded hard, but was helpful. He's a nice guy, I just didn't learn much from the class.
He is crazy, somewhat hard to follow. But the notes he gives you will be seen again on the test
miller is one of the greatest minds here at MU, and if you don't like him, you are: A)legitimately stupid or B)a complete 'tool'
This man is too intelligent for his own good. He has this joie de vie that emanates from him, probably as a result of his mysterious past. I never thought one could interpret science fiction in Milton, but this prof proved that it could be done. Wacky ideas with logical explanations=Dr. Miller.
He reads this site and then comes in and justifies why he does things, HAHA. Crazy but smart as a whip. All I want to know is WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM IN THE WAR???
EXTREMELY smart man. knows his stuff. TONS OF NOTES. stutters. dont think would have a)finished paradise lost & b)learned/enjoyed it without his guidance. very excited about life and learning & everything. wondered what the heck happened to him in the war & what caused his brain to go askew...
I honestly don't see how anyone likes this guy. I get all A's in all of my other classes, but he consistently gives me B's. I wrote 6+ pages for all of my exams and never got higher than a B. He is boring. He gives too many notes. And he is weird. Believes there is only one way to read a text.
Very nice guy! Seems overwhelmed, yet has tons to say! Very smart, finds life lessons everywhere, so its more than just english class.Be patient and understanding ,take good notes, be honest (and you'll be fine). Appreciate his energy and drive for knowledge about everything!!
Miller is the most intelligent prof I have ever had! If you fail to do well in his class, you are crazy!
Amazing professor! So knowledgable! His class is really enjoyable and he's hysterical! I really respect him as a professor and an expert in his subject area! Absolutely fantastic! Take him if you can!
was very unclear during lectures and graded poorly. got off track alot and rushed too much information at the end to finish. Subject of class is boring too
Grades hard- I never ever got a D- on a paper before this class. He was rude when I tried to talk to him about it. Couldn't even understand the essay questions to take his tests. Lectures are boring! Don't take this class!
GREAT professor! He's absolutely hilarious and incredibly knowledgeable about the subject. He's really passionate about what he does and the class isn't difficult at all, definitely take a class with Miller.
The man is a genius;it's just that simple.People who can't understand him shouldn't be in college. He makes the test hard in order to see how you react to it and then grades you on your effort. If all people at millersville were like Dr.Miller there would be a lot less whiny dumbasses.
here is one crazy man. but hey, it works. i loved his class, and learned a lot from it. i mean, he found robot dogs in the odyssey! and yeah, what happened to him in the war??? i guess that's the question of the year...
If you want to understand life, read Paradise Lost...and if you want to understand Paradise Lost, take Dr. Miller. He will change the way you look at all pieces of literature forever! Tough course, but hey...that's college.
Excellent professor to take for business writing. He changes the way you compose and evaluate papers, memos, etc. You will definitely use everything you learn from him in your future career. He's a must take!!!
Dr. Miller is a really passionate and cool professor. His one flaw is that he really demands that everyone just take his word on the interpretations of the text and put them on the test. I tried to put a little of my view into a test and it did not turn out to be the best choice. But all in all, it is a tough course with good reading.
Dr. Miller is the best prof ever! Whoever does bad in this course is a fool. The course is "built on the assumption that more knowledge awaits more inquiry. One great virtue of discovery is that it raises more wonderous questions than answers."
Milton course - If you're going to study Milton with Miller, you better believe in God and agree with his interpretation. I made that mistake and was punished for it. Other than that, he has interesting insight, is funny and lets you add your two cents once in a while. I'd take him again, but not for a religion-related course.
I don't know what dr. miller everyone else had, but I'm convinced he is a rambling idiot who just loves to repeat himself throughout the class. Honestly, anyone else get tired of hearing "Make a little note," in its multiple forms. Dr. Timothy Miller can best described as John Madden trapped in Robin Williams' body (says crazy**** and seizures).
Did not like this prof at all. Unorganized, unclear, and rarely finishes 1 thought before he starts another thought. Always talking about the "cosmos" and how you can "do the math" I didn't see any math in anything we did. Don't count on selling your book back, it will be covered with "little notes". Take another prof for your own good!
I've taken him for two courses--got A's. He's challenging, but that should be a good thing. The comment about religious disbelief in Miller's Milton class is moronic at best: I don't believe in god, and that's why I took Milton with Miller: after the class, I loved Milton, despite. and got an A. He's brilliant and enthusiastic! EXTRAPOLATE.
His class was so hard. He took notes on his own notes. His tests have nothing to do with the content of the book. It's all about symbolism and imagery and it's nearly impossible. I thought for sure I failed it but somehow pulled out a C-. He takes weeks to get through a few chapters of a book and he rambles. Very confusing and absent minded.
Dr. Miller is by far my favorite professor at Millersville. He's intelligent, enthusiastic, and loves what he does. All he asks is that you keep an open mind. Take good notes and study the worksheets and your notes for the tests and you should be fine. He even tells you that most of the test questions are at least touched upon in the worksheets.
Nice guy but oblivious to the point of aggravation. Takes a very long time to get through the material. Tests are essay and you will do alright if you repeat what is on the handouts- and he will give you a ton of handouts. He can be entertaining but generally he's just frustrating. I feel I didn't learn much so I probably won't take him again.
His science fiction class is pretty interesting and he is certainly passionate about the material. He's a bit of an oddball and has a tendency to ramble sometimes so take him only if you think you can handle that. I myself rather enjoyed his class and think he's fairly intelligent and his tests surprisingly easy if you learn to read into the works.
He's on the manic side. I can see why students would like him as he's so different from other professors and his tests were pretty easy if you review the notes beforehand and do a little creative thinking. However he didn't mesh well with me and I came to dread going to his classes. Nice guy, just not a good fit for me as a professor.
he's crazy (he admits this) but frighteningly smart. he's one of the best lit prof's out there
Genius! Genius! extremely fair. Best one in the U.S Take him!
calling prof. miller a genius is an understatement, he is sheer pure brilliance, he is more than helpful, allows you to take/complete tests after class hours, and is extremely passionate about his material, if you study the notes he gives you, and add a little bit of your own knowledge from the readings into your tests, you'll easily get an A
Wonderful professor!!! It's very laughable that somebody would say in their rating that Dr. Miller is "impossible" when they spelled the word "impossible" incorrectly twice!
GENIUS! very humble, very brilliant, if you pay attention you will learn! i had no interest in literary works before this class, but now, it's a whole different story, he's so passionate about literature, his "tempest" lecture is by far one of the best lectures i've ever had
Dr. Miller is a remarkably admirable man. He's a genius in disguise and is truly brilliant. Not only did I obtain knowledge in his class, but wisdom, too. He is a rare breed and is tough as nails. Everything useful that I've learned in school comes from him. What a character!
learned more than i could have imagined, really makes you think, amazing teacher, cares about his students, one of a kind now a days, has so many interesting things to say
Love him. He is entertaining, VERY interested about the topics, and has amazing stories to tell. Take him, he is hands-down the best thing Millersville has to offer
Dr. Miller is a great professor. He tells a lot of funny stories & made a typically boring class interesting. I never missed a class. Obviously there's a lot of writing assignments, but he walks you through it & allows you to come to his office hours & he'll look over it for you before you turn it in for a grade. Great professor-take him!
Dr. Miller is a brilliant man. He made learning about Milton fun and exciting. This was definitely one of my favorite classes I have taken at Millersville. Highly recommended
I love this prof. had him for three class and will take his Milton class. He has heightened my interest in Milton and Dante but he is a tough grader.
I would not recommend this professor. Every class consisted of the professor reading us the notes he took in the margins of the novels and asking us to write them down. We never had a single class discussion. He was disorganized and wasted a lot of time complaining about students complaining about him. There are better choices available at MU
A character if I've ever seen one. He is a brilliant man, and his classes are so informative. He's quirky, and repeats himself sometimes, but an excellent teacher and a fascinating individual. I highly recommend taking his class, or simply talking to him.
I took Professor Miller's class in the fall and he is so smart and interesting. When I sat in the back row, I didn't learn as much but stay in the front row and you will learn so much. His tests are not super easy so I'd say they are average. Recommend that you take him for a good learning experience.
I LOVE this Dr, Miller. He is hands down one of the best teachers I have ever seen. Yes, he is a character and at times lack organization but he tells you everything you need to know for his exams. He gives a ton of handouts but as long as you focus on najor themes that are repeated in lecture and notes, you will be fine. B+
Milton was not a class that particularly interested me. Dr. Miller made it interesting. He is VERY knowledgeable and passionate about Milton. I learned a lot and enjoyed this course. Tests are essay (there are 3) and there's one paper. If you prepare, tests are easy. He is very fair
He is scattered at times, but very knowledgeable about the subject. He makes even boring topics interesting. He tends to accidentally waste class time, but pushes back exams to make sure he has time to go over everything. Make sure to study for his exams, as they are all essay, but if you look over his handouts you'll be fine.
had for World Lit and Science Fiction. He repeats himself, and his tests are hard, but if you pay attention & listen in class you don't have to study much. There are a lot of books required for his science fiction class, but if you go to class and listen to him he goes over everything you need to know. The things he repeats you'll need for the test
Wow. This man is BRILLIANT. Go into his class with an open mind, don't be judgmental, and see past his repetitiveness--you will get a lot out of it. Gives a lot of handouts but study them and you'll be fine for exams. If he can tell you read the readings you'll do fine on exams. Miller seriously changed my life- highly recommend!!!!
The most interesting teacher I have had. He is so helpful and understanding with each and every one of his students. Not to mention he's hilarious. Take him!
This is class was great. He gives you handouts on everything. Write a few essay tests and use some of your notes and you will pass with flying colors.
Really good professor. Gives you lots of handouts. Didn't even read the textbook until the final.Spark-noted everything for the tests and passed with a B+.
Boring teacher, easy but boring.
Dr. Miller is a brilliant professor. Contrary to popular interpretation of Paradise Lost, Dr. Miller provides his own insightful interpretations. The class is almost entirely lecture based, but Dr. Miller has a way of keeping the subject material engaging. If you take notes and attend class, the tests are a breeze. Entirely essay based.
I love Tim Miller, the guy is an absolute genius. That being said, he is not the greatest professor. He simply gives you handouts and reads from the book/handouts. Helpful when studying, but boring in class. If you are a linear thinker, do not take a class from him. He will confuse you as he tends to ramble and sometimes he just make no sense.
Brilliant man! He gives out handouts--save them & study them 'til you can't study anymore. He's nice & funny. I recommend him! =)
Tim Miller is quite possibly the craziest professor I've ever had. I mean this is a good way. I've never left his class hating him, but with some amusing story from him. He is so passionate about his work, which is very admirable. He has so much info that he really wants you to know, which is overwhelming. Sometimes he's not very clear.
Tim Miller is my favorite professor of all time! He is so sweet and inspires every single student he teaches. His class is so easy. One of the easiest graders in the English Department. He is so crazy and always has great stories. What an amazing man he is. So much respect for him!
Dr. Miller is a super nice, weird guy. He can be a bit scatterbrained and his lectures are all over the place, but the books he assigns are all fascinating and he has very interesting interpretations of the text. Tons and tons of handouts, definitely get a binder. The essay exams are complicated but he covered everything in class or in a handout.
Chillest class ever
Dr. Miller is incredible and inspiring! Lots of books and handouts, but he goes over almost everything in class and you know exactly what he wants to see in your essay exams. As long as you take notes and understand the real meaning of the stories, it's an easy A. I took so much more from this class than just science fiction, highly recommend it!.
What can I say about this man, he is a nut, but that is the best thing about him. Every class is like a comedy show as Dr. Miller is a wacky, but funny Vietnam veteran. The class is pretty straightforward, and as long as you can write papers at a moderate level you should get nothing lower than a B. The "Monster" is great!
Dr. Miller is a funny and enjoyable professor. He only made my class write 3 essays throughout the entire semester so make sure that you know all of the literature that you are reading. 3 words of advice that I would give is make sure you watch documentaries of the stories, write essay outlines, and type the essays on a laptop in class.
Dr. Miller isn't too bad, but I did feel like showing up to his class was a waste of time. His lectures are very disorganized and he was never able to cover everything in class. The good thing about him is that there is not much work to do. As long as you read the materials and can write well, I'ts an easy A!
I love Dr. Miller. He is so sweet and he is a very knowledgable man in his field of Science Fiction and Literature. His lecture style might be a little bit unorganized, but Dr. Miller is such a sweet guy so I'll let it slide. His handouts are important, keep those close-by for test time, you'll need them for your essay exams.
The most awesome and laid-bac professor I had at Millersville. He's a bit wonky and scatter-brained, but he knows his stuff, and is adamant on helping you succeed. He wont waste your time or money.
Dr. Miller is one of the best English professors. He knows the material, and his love of teaching is obvious when he lectures. The grade is based off of a paper and a few tests.
I was frustrated with this course up until the first test. This course is an easy A or B if you take notes on what he says. His exams may seem challenging, but he goes over the test questions a class before the test. Dr. Miller also has some very interesting stories that he will tell the class from time to time. I strongly recommend him.
Miller is probably the weirdest professor i've ever had. When he gets off topic, he rambles on and on about the same things, though he's usually hilarious. His on-topic ramblings, however, feel like the diatribes of a madman. He is clearly very intelligent, but he isn't the best person to teach college.
Dr. Miller is a hilarious and sweet guy who obviously loves Shakespeare. He is passionate about it. My only issue was the three hour lectures that were hard to pay attention to. He does give you many handouts with his lecture notes on them so you can study for the pretty simple essay tests. Not very tech-savvy, but it's not a deal-breaker
A few in class essays, and lots of lectures. It's sometimes hard to focus. It's best to read on your own, and use the professor as a guide. You can get away with missing a few classes, but I don't recommend skipping all of it. Take notes. Use Sparknotes and online videos to best help you with the tests. Very difficult. Never got higher than a B+
When it comes to Miller (in any class), as long as you at least skim some of the hand outs he gives, know his talking points, and understand very generally what the books he covers are about, you will not get lower than a B in any of his classes. I've taken him twice, never read a single page of a book he's covered, and gotten B's in both classes.
Dr. Timothy Miller is overall an amazing human being, as well as a great professor. He tells great experiences from, as he says, his "life lived and learned." He also really knows his stuff. While his class doesn't focus on discussions and is lecture based, you will learn to see similarities in the ancient classics (Genesis, the Odyssey, etc.).
Dr. Miller is definitely one of my favorite professors. He goes off topic, but you'll never be bored. I found his stories to be unique and inspirational. His expectations may be confusing, but you will most likely receive an A in the course if you follow his handouts. Also, If you need to turn an assignment in late he is very understanding.
This man is my favorite professor at Millersville. He deserves a higher rating than he has because he's absolutely amazing. He tells you exactly what he's looking for and if you reproduce everything that he tells you to "make a note" of in class, you will do well. He also has an extremely interesting past, and his stories are why students love him!
An amazing person with amazing life experiences. Also, an incredibly powerful and thought-provoking writer who will go out of his way to help you with anything.
Dr. Miller is extremely passionate. He loves what he teaches, and wants you to also. While he wants you to read the texts, he gives a bunch of handouts that have everything you need to know. As long as you seem to have an understanding of the material that he gave you, you will do well.
This class was taken as an elective and it was WAY too hard for a 200 level class... You cannot read his feedback so it is not useful to students. Expectations are not clear and handouts are absurdly long and confusing... Does not use D2L. You only need the books for quotes on the essays so don't buy them. Don't take unless you have to.
My favorite professor at Millersville. I absolutely love him. He may seem like a nutcase and yes his handwriting is awful because of Vietnam. Go to his office hours, ask him to explain his feedback, you won't be disappointed. For me, it was an easy A and its a graduate level course. Every exam was take home, and there were only 4 of them. TAKE HIM
Nice guy, but very all over the place, and with it being so lecture heavy it's hard to pay attention
Significant amount of papers- but easy. Let's just leave it at- he should retire. I hope you enjoy war stories, tangents, and repetition. VERY old fashioned. VERY. Lots of reading assigned, but read the whole story in class. Refers to self in third person a lot too. Means well.
Professor Miller is eccentric. He has a good heart and passion for his teaching, but is incredibly repetitive. His jokes get stale fast and the majority of the learning we did was reading old papers from previous students he handed out. He answers emails, but otherwise avoids technology. He gives out an absurd amount of paper. Buy a large binder.
This class was a trainwreck. Do not take this professor if you don't have to. Timothy needs to retire. Does not give clear expectations of what he wants, and then grades harshly. 3 tests and a paper, and the test questions are 100% whack. Class is awkward and he can't use technology. No feedback and grades inconsistently. AVOID.
Dr. Miller is a bit eccentric. His class is very lecture heavy, which can be a bit boring at times, but he is brilliant and very knowledgeable about the books. His tests are all essay questions, but he provides handouts and is clear about what he is looking for. If he tells you to highlight or write something down, do it. Overall, an easy class.
He's a very sensitive man, and if you need extensions, he is more than willing to let you have them. He's had a hard time recently with some personal issues, and his strength and intelligence it something to be admired--especially with a severe lack of admin support for his disabilities. (get a big binder & make sure ur ok with lectures)
Dr. Miller is such a passionate professor. You can really tell that he cares about what he teaches and wants all students to benefit from his teaching. He is caring and will happily accommodate for you and is always willing to talk through essays and help you with concepts that confuse you. Definitely lots of handouts but trust me THEY HELP A LOT!!
Dr. Miller is an incredibly thoughtful and intelligent man. You can tell that he cares deeply about his students and what they take away from his course. Every lesson is meaningful and he proves his expert knowledge through his teachings. Lectures can be tough to get through. Overall an enlightening experience.
If you are an English major or interested in English, definitely take him. He gives wondrous insight into literature and he is special due to his tremendous life experience. He served in over 30 countries in special forces and can truly speak to life challenges. He is one of the greatest minds at Millersville and is beyond empathetic and kind.
Dr. Miller cares about the literature he talks about. Classes are lecture heavy and he will read the assigned texts word for word and have you annotate. Test questions can be multiple steps and unclear. Just take notes on the phrases he repeats a lot and include those in your assignments and you should be fine.
Dr. Miller is definitely the most unique/eccentric professor I've ever had, but also the sweetest. He tends to lecture and doesn't ask for student's input or feedback, but you get used to it. The test/essays are take home style, and they can get very longwinded and repetitive. Just take notes on the phrases he repeats, and include those!
