about 5 small quizes, 5 writing assignments, 5 experiment, no exams, but a final experiment- which you have to think of, conduct, & write yourself! very tough grader on papers & doesn't let you make up the wrong stuff for points. He's nice but fairly difficult. I'd take him again but only b.c i'd hope i got the hang of it the 1st time.
I think it is his first year out of grad school but he is a good teacher. He really cares about his students and being sure that he is able to be understood. He does a lot of review, which is good, and almost always lets us out of class early. Tests are not too hard if you study. He lets you know what he expects. Take his class.
His lectures are helpful, he uses powerpoint, and he uses examples in class to make sure that you understand the material. Also, if you need help and you go to his office hours. He is very helpful and patient.
this class is horrible! the teacher is nice...but so nice that its annoying! his lectures contradict the text but his tests are a mixture of both-its VERY confusing! i have all As and Bs in other classes but i have a D in this. ITS TERRIBLE-DONT TAKE IT!
he's ok- cares about students i guess. but he has a weird way of teaching...kinda all over the place and his examples didnt really make sense. i think people didnt do as well in this class but no one really knew what to expect because his teaching style was so inconsistent.
Prof. Miura is the nicest guy EVER but really seems like he is confused about what he is teaching. He doesn't require book usage but the book can teach the subject matter a lot better and clearer than he can. Notes are all posted online as well as the 5 or 6 homework assignments. There is an occasional pop quiz, the final is not cumulative.
Best stats teacher ive ever had. just go to class, pay attention.drops lowest quiz grade, easy hw assignments, best test counts 35% worst counts 15. overall amazing teacher, previous people probs just blow at math.
The best stats teacher I've ever had. Willing to go through problems alot. Don't buy the book it's a waste he puts all of his lectures on BB. Adorable man and excellent teacher, I'll definitely take him again!
He's a really nice guy and he's always willing to go over the material until everyone understands it. The problem is, though, that he would spend half of the class just reviewing, which was really boring. His grading scale is very fair, though.
He spent a lot of time covering stuff that we already learned in research methods, like how to write/format in APA style. For the first 2/3 of the semester we had a paper and a quiz every week. The class could have easily been designated writing intensive, but wasn't. I would only recommend this class to people who really love cognitive psych.
He is a very helpful man and I really liked him at first however i found his lectures to be all over the place. I got an A- in the class but thought it was tough and I had had stats before. Don't take him if your just taking it as a requirement for a program. You need to have a strong interest in stats!
i would absolutely take miura again for any class. dreaded 304 but learned a lot about stats and i can see myself applying it to my other psych classes in the future. after this class. weekly "pop" quizzes and HW keeps you SO on track that exam studying was a breeze. get out of class early a lot and very helpful!
Dr. Miura is a very nice guy, but he doesn't particularly teach this subject very well. Stands in front of the class, pretty much just reads off of powerpoint. Tests are almost impossible. The class average on the first exam was a 65. Expect to do a lot of work for this class and hope for a C!
I'm not sure why he has a good rating on rate my professor. He is hard. His power points are confusing, his tests require a ton of detail in complicated experiments. He makes cognitive psyc dry and borrinnnggg. If you dont already have an interest in Cognitive Psyc do not take this class. Its a waste of your time.
Miura is a SUPER nice guy. i REALLY like him. HOWEVER...Cognitive Psyc was HARD. There are some pop quizzes but he warns you when you'll have them, some homework that's REALLY easy just for points and then 3 tests. Tests averages are low and i THINK at the end of semester he grades on a curve because I got an A in the class. Hard class. Great Prof.
VERY HARD CLASS- but Professor Miura is the man, VERY NICE GUY and cares about students. If you don't like to challenge yourself and you want to do the same old crap get out, if you want to learn something from a passionate dude then take this professor's cog lab. Great with returning e-mails as well.
This class was hard. The lectures were not clear and lacked cohesion. The tests were ridiculous...class average on the first test was a 62, and a 70 (yay for improvement) on the second. He appears to be a nice, caring guy, but I question how genuine he is. Not an enjoyable class and not a teacher I would take again!
Is he super hard? yes. Does this mean he doesn't genuinely care about his student's? NO! geeze, our generation is doomed... you guys want to get by doing the LEAST WORK POSSIBLE. The level of difficulty will prepare you for the real world, do yourself a favor and step up to the challenge. You don't get better by doing the same old easy crap.
Miura is very enthusiastic about the subject and really cares about whether or not his students learn the material. PowerPoints aren't always clear so go to class, take careful notes, and ask questions. Study everything on the study guide and tests are a breeze. Very interesting class, definitely take him.
He is so happy all the time. The material can be dry, but he tries to make it exciting. Very willing to help. I thought the tests could be kind of hard, but only because they covered a lot of material. It's not a breeze class, but you will actually learn something and actually take the time to do the work.
Prof. Miura is a great teacher. Mostly everything comes off of his PowerPoints, but still go to class because not everything is explained in them. He is very charismatic about the topic. The only thing is that his exams cover a lot of material, and you won't know your weighted grade until the very end of the semester. Not easy but a great class!
Prof. Miura has a really nice personality.Stats is not an easy subject, at least for me. 3 exams some homework and some surprise quizzes. He is always happy and always willing to help. I found it cute how he gets excited when you show him you get the material. I also had a huge crush on him =)
Try to avoid him if you can. He's just confusing. He puts up slides- very dry and unclear. Do the homework and come to class because he has pop quizzes. Good Luck!
Plusses and minuses. The subject matter is extremely boring and the tests are kind of difficult. I usually skip if there's definitely no quiz because all you need to do is cram before tests and do the easy points for hw. So overall, don't learn anything substantial but if you need an A group psyc. then take this to not work hard.
I was worried about stats, but the class was extremely easy and slow paced -- We spent a whole week talking about central tendencies. Maybe it's because I took stats 2 yrs ago in high school and vaguely remember the material, but I found this class to be easy. Others seemed to have difficulties, but I found that he simplified the material a lot
This course wasn't organized. I felt that 6 short homework assignments for wasn't enough for a 16-wk course or to even fully understand the concepts taught. The assignments barely put a dent into overall grade. Exams were too spaced out, 3 over a semester w/ tons of theoretical Jargon. Study guides were often late, giving half a wk to a wk tostudy
like seriously the most boring class ever. i attend every class and i was so tempted to not attend this one. cognition itself is so interesting but Miura literally just has an awful teaching style of completely shutting it down. i guarantee you if you like cognition you willnot like it after this class. just study from the studyguide u will do fine
Cog psych lab with professor Miura was awesome. He's extremely helpful and the assignments/quizzes are not hard-in fact they add points which boosts your grade. He makes sure you do quality work which could provide a good writing sample for grad school. I took his lecture and the lab is easier than that bc you do your own project. Highly recommended
Miura is very nice and helpful when you need help. His lectures are very dry and boring and the exams are actually really hard. He does give make up opportunities, very easy homework assignments, and quizzes. He's a really great guy he just needs to be a bit more clear of what he wants us to learn.
Dr. Miura is one of the sweetest teachers ever and is really funny. He really makes sure his students do well in his class. He is the cutest thing ever. I couldn't ask for a better teacher.
Professor Miura is very nice and he is very clear on what he wants. There were 3 open note quizzes, 3 papers, and one finial research paper. You do have to work hard in this class and it is required to attend but its worth it if you're a psych major and want to learn how to write properly.
Great professors. The class itself can be a bit dry and he does challenge you be does teach all the material you need. Offers a few small extra credit chances. Several pop quizzes. Just do your readings, pay attention in class and you will certainly do well and learn quite a bit. Be prepared for a bit of challenge though.
This class is definitely hard. He gives pop quizzes every once in a while, about every two weeks. The tests are very hard and specific. However, Miura himself is very friendly and he really is interested in the subject. He is very approachable. Reading the textbook is not necessary but would be beneficial if you do read it.
I read all of the comments and I must say that I do agree with most of them. Indeed, professor Miura is very nice, but he is also not a very good teacher. I'm a foreign student and I have hard time in his class. Lectures are not clear and he idneed reads a lot from the power point. Class itself is complicated and tests are very tricky.
I loved his man! He is the sweetest teacher around and he is extremely willing to help you with his class material. You definitely need to read the textbook, take notes, retake notes and study some more. Some pop quizzes, three tests just like other psych classes. Hard but he makes it worth it!
Dr Miura is a great guy, and he really knows his stuff. He's not the best at teaching it, though. Class can DRAG on because he pretty much reads the material off a script he has in front of him. The exams are a lot harder than you'd expect, so study the ppts AND the book. He has pop quizzes of 5 questions each. If you're confused, GO TO HIS O.H.!!
his lectures are extremely boring...you can study the stuff on your own but attendance is mandatory cz of the pop quizzes..his tests are based on both text and lecture so make sure you read well..takes FOREVER to give grades back so u really dont know what ur getting in class till a week after school ends and the study guide does not help!
Very friendly and approachable. He really knows his stuff, but then he seems expect you to become an instant expert; Asks a lot of specific and technical questions on tests. Class is not too exciting, and the class overall is not the easiest.
Great guy, but a dry class. Pay attention and read and you'll do fine.
He uses a super complex language to explain simple things. Quizzes and exams are based on his lectures (power points). Not an easy class, have to work hard to get a B. If you care about your GPA, don't take him!
Awful public speaker, dry, hard-to-follow lectures. He's a nice person, but being nice doesn't equate to being good at your job.
He just reiterates everything from the slides. There should be more examples discussed in class. I saw a lot of people struggling to explain concepts but easily doing the math.
he doesnt use the book much but he focuses all his boring and dry lectures on studies. thats all this class is. study after study after study. no real take-home message there. i hate this class. its the only psyc class ive ever hated
I would not recommend this professor, his class is so detail oriented and difficult. He is difficult to listen to for any length of time. He is very nice, however his class is so dry. I had to come to class to keep up with the material and even after hours of studying, the highest grade i earned on his tests was a C.
Nice professor. Gives very easy homework assignments (nice grade boosters). Pop quizzes every so often (5 questions each) and 3 tests (multiple choice and short answer). Topics are kind of boring. I passed with an A and my suggestion is to type the PowerPoint lectures before the class and then just fill in details in class. Pain in butt but works!
You HAVE to go to lecture if you want any clarity. Full points on homework is not hard to obtain, gives pop quizzes (5 questions) and drops the lowest. At the end of the semester he gave us an opportunity for 5 extra points. He talks pretty fast and goes through the material very quickly so pay attention. He will tell you what to focus on.
Great class! He is super enthusiastic and is really helpful if needed. The tests are difficult but go to class, pay attention, read the book and you will do well.
This class was extremely boring and even after group studying, book notes, retype of lecture notes and my personal notes. NO ONE is getting above a C- in this class. He throws a lot of information at you and it doesn't coincide with the tests. He's enthusiastic but can't really teach
Seems like a nice person but clearly isn't meant to be teaching a stats course. Isn't clear enough and reads DIRECTLY off lecture. Not coherent. Not enough practice for students to be ready for the types of tests he has.
grading scale is kinda strange. I got C on the first test but he counts your worst grade the least so I managed to pull an A cause I aced the final (i think he doubles your best grade). Cognitive psych isnt the most interesting subject, but go to class and definitely know the details of all the studies. not too bad just not super clear.hes so nice!
If you can do well in a bio or neuro class at Loyola, you can certainly get an A in this class! Super cool material! Textbook is not necessary but did clear up any questions left over from lecture. Tests are not difficult, just meticulously detailed, as lab experiments and data ought to be!
Avoid stats with him at all costs. Not the best teacher to learn this subject from and get adequate practice.
Cognitive Psych has the potential to be an interesting subject, but it depends on the professor. Professor Miura was not simple to learn from. This class made me want to change my major because of the tedious studies that we learned about. Make sure you know the studies inside and out for exams. His main focus are on the studies. Take good notes!
He's a horrible professor STAY AWAY. He never helped me, and when he found out I had anxiety he told me to make things easier for myself and drop his class. When I didn't, he made my life difficult. He was always rude to me, ignored me, and gave me attitude...just avoid him.
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM. He's a terrible teacher and completely unhelpful. When I went in to talk to him during office hours, he said I should already know the material and proceeded to patronize me for being confused instead of helping me. I was almost in tears after our meeting. Stay away- he makes an already boring class miserable
Makes learning stats easy. Tests mostly off lectures and ppts. Learn concepts and formulas to do well. Can be an easy A if you study and do the hw. Really prepares you conceptually. Memorizing formulas are simple if you pay attention during the first half of the semester. Tutoring and office visits help, too.
Pros: Very passionate about statistics and very helpful. He goes over each topic in depth and provides ample examples. Cons: Slow grader. He is anal about how he wants the homework turned in. Other: Don't really need textbook. Lectures posted online, but you need to go to class to understand them. He is so cute and neurotic . I recommend him.
I don't know what everyone else is talking about! Yes, the tests are difficult, and you have to really study. However, he weights exams so your lowest score is worth the least amount. Also, he gives really easy HW assignments, drops your lowest quiz score, and gives extra credit on the last exam. He boosts grades a lot. People complaining are lazy.
This class is hard, but an A is attainable. He's a nice guy who teaches you everything you need to know. You'll learn a lot. The tests are tough, so print the slides out before class, take good notes, make notecards for important concepts, and make an outline of all the studies. HW and quizzes will boost your grade, but be prepared to work hard.
Miura is a good teacher, but a really tough grader and kinda boring. He really makes you work for an A, but it's attainable. He posts his lectures online, gives quizzes, and counts homework for a grade. He's insanely particular about homework so I wouldn't blow it off, plus it's a solid part of your final grade. I'd take him, he's pretty decent.
I took him for Psych Stats and Cognitive Psych and got an A in both. He is an extremely helpful and kind professor. He wants you to succeed and will help you out in any way. Make sure you know the studies from the book and review his power points and you will do fine!
I took stats 103 prior to this class and got a C so I was pretty nervous going into this class, but I'm getting an A. He puts up slides prior to lecture, reviews concepts over and over until you get them and even if you don't he's always willing to see you during office hours. Also he weighs test by how well you did. 25, 20, 15%. Take him!
I have a super crush on Miura. Tests are based on class notes. Don't have to read text but it clarifies what you miss in lectures. Posts slides from lectures, but you have to show up to really understand. He's always willing to meet at office hours for further clarification. Do the work, son! If I wasn't taking 6 classes this would be an easy A.
Tests in this class are brutal, but Miura gives interesting lectures, and is great at breaking down concepts and further explaining them. While you definitely have to work hard for an A, taking this class with him is definitely worth it! If you do not study and pay attention, you will not pass.
Mr. M is so amazing. He is so helpful, i actually learned things. He give tons of extra credit. He is a kind soul. He doesn't allow speaking but always has something interesting to say. i would recommend him.
I have a crush on Dr. Miura! He is so smart and hilarious! He posts the lectures online but i learned the hard way that you MUST go to class in order to understand what he's talking about in the lectures. I usually take side notes with the powerpoints as he goes through it. He gives awesome examples so if you pay attention its a great class
Interesting material but he does not help his students, exams are impossible, class average on the exams was always very low. Take the class but avoid this professor.
He's the hardest professor I've had my three years at Loyola. I'm fully convinced he's insane, and does not give two flying sh*ts about his students. YEZUS.
I'm a senior and Dr. Miura is the worst teacher I have taken so far. He does not care about his students. DON'T TAKE HIM!!
Professor Mirua, is absolutely the hardest teacher I have taken. Also he is very unhelpful... I asked him my grade 5 times and he told me it was to hard to calculate. I went into the final having no idea where my grade stood. Which is ridiculous. Also gave really hard exams, I studied for days and still failed! Do not take!!!!!! save yourself
Honestly the hardest class I've ever taken. I devoted so much time to this class every week and I still just passed.
This professor is extremely lazy and rude. He never uploads the grades on time. When he does end up doing it it's never accurate and when you argue with him he says it's too late. It's frustrating. Absolutely avoid this teacher. They really need to fire him!!
Professor Miura is very interesting and you can learn a lot from his class. However, the class is not easy. There is a lot of work involved, exams are tough (remember all of the research back and forth), and the textbook does help. His office hours are open and he is always willing to help students! You just have to ask.
One of the best professors and classes I've ever had! Work is challenging, but Dr. Miura is fair and always available to help students. Dr. Miura spoon feeds very complex material. I am looking forward to taking more classes with Dr. Miura. If one doesn't do well in his class, one hasn't done the work.
Horrible Professor. DONT TAKE. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. He has no idea how to explain anything. His vocabulary is so sophisticated that when he talks about the brain, it's like he's speaking in a foreign language.
Dr. Miura was my first psych professor. I'm in his cognitive lecture this semester, am enrolled next semester for his psyc stats class, and plan on taking his lab course next year. He loves what he does and is enthusiastic during lectures. He gives his students extra help to pass b/c he actually cares. Kind of slow to grade, but he makes up for it.
This class was required for my major. Dr. Miura made stats somewhat easy but when he grades homework and quizzes if you do not put exactly what was on powerpoints you wont get full credit. He does weight each test differently depending on how you did. Your lowest score gets weighted the lowest, highest score gets weighted the highest etc.
He's a tough grader and a little inconsistent. It's also tough to argue about your grade because his TA does everything and he trusts her. His lectures are fascinating and he has a way of spelling it out for you. However, his tests and quizzes are tough so be prepared to study and take notes. Miura himself is great, but his class isn't an easy A.
Cognitive is a fairly hard class, but it is completely possible to get an A in, IF YOU WORK HARD. There is a lot of material that he expects you to know for each exam, but the best way to do is to make A TON of flashcards. Start studying at least a week or two in advance and use his weekly learning guides to study, and you should be fine.
He's a nice guy and a very organized lecturer. He definitely makes sure everyone understands what we're learning before he moves on. Tests can be tricky since there are conceptual questions which is kind of hard considering it's a math class. Studying the powerpoints and making sure you understand concepts will get you an A.
He is very kind, but a really hard grader. His tests are mostly conceptual rather than mathematical. His powerpoints are easy to undertand--sometimes better than him lecturing. He's very soft spoken and repeats many things. Only 3 tests a few quizzes and a few homework assignments. overall and okay class
He is a nice person but grades mostly on conceptual stuff, not the math. If you don't write word for word what's on the powerpoint you won't get credit. He teaches to the lowest person a whole lot, literally spends an entire class going over one problem. He also gave a homework and take the home quiz the last day of class due on exam day.
Don't do this to yourself. This class requires more work than it should. Significant extra credit offered at the end, because class averages on exams are so low. Slow grader! Slow! He once took 3 weeks in getting an exam back, and they're only 30 points (mc/short answer - pay attention to the slide studies in depth!).
Professor Miura was incredibly frustrating. His tests were graded erratically and it was extraordinarily hard to understand what he wanted in test answers. I have always been good at math so this was a class that should have been a breeze for me but Professor Miura's style of teaching created more confusion for me. Definitely would not reccomend
I couldn't have chosen a worse professor. He teaches math and puts them on the quizzes but then hands out tests that are purely conceptual, and don't bother looking for his concepts in his lectures cause they can't be found, probably cause he doesn't even know where they are himself. DONE DO IT HE MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE AND I HAD A 4.0 BEFORE THIS
he talks slowly but QUIETLY. his lecturesheavy, so I had to refer to the book. It helps 2 print slides out before class or take notes on your laptop. Also, DO THE WEEKLY REVIEWS The exams are OK- I studied so much and there were only 25-30 questions and then a few short responses. he's caring and funny-about 4 assignments which are pretty easy
You have to put work into his class, but that's what college is all about. Take notes on what he says off slide, study in advance for the tests, and you'll be fine. Quizzes and homework give your grade a boost. Gives great study guides every week that you should use while studying for the test. He always manages to make lectures interesting and fun
He tries to be funny and witty, but then can be very boring the majority of the time. There was just too much information to learn for each exam. The quizzes and homework were easy. The exam were only 30 questions, so if you missed a few multiple choice, your grade dropped a lot. It's an interesting class, but too hard for me
Don't take Miura. Nice guy, but should NOT be teaching stats. If you struggle with math at all, get out while you still can. Miura's grading is erratic and confusing. His test questions are ambiguous and can be deciphered too many ways. Not straightforward. His office hours were not helpful. Saw an outside tutor and they told me to withdraw.
I think Dr. Miura is trying to improve his class. Yes, his grading can be confusing sometimes, he is very picky about answers on the conceptual questions. However, it really is not that bad. I've taken stats before and was very confused, but he helped me understand it.
There is a lot of information, but he works very hard to make it understandable. He uses examples for everything, and is clear in his lecturing. He will curve tests a bit, but they are on the shorter side. Know the studies he talks about. The best part with him is that he is very receptive to feedback and really wants to make his class doable.
Dr. Miuras class is fairly straightforward. Attend class, pay attention to lectures, look over the weekly reviews he provides, and you should be set. First test was easy, second one was a huge difficulty increase so be careful. Cool guy.
He is a nice guy but his tests only have 30 questions so if you get a few wrong your grade drops significantly. He is a very boring professor. Do not take this class if you are taking other classes that are actually important for your major. Major GPA drop from this class. do the 4 homeworks worth 25% of your grade they help boost your average.
Lectures cover a ton of material, but they're pretty clearly organized. Helps if you're truly interested in the subject (for psycholinguistics and cognitive psych). 4 short papers and quizzes, 3 tests--test questions can be detailed, so learn the studies from his lectures! Overall, class had a medium level of difficulty.
Hard tests that aren't made up of clear criteria. Gives weekly learning reviews but they may or may not show up on the test. Know the studies because he will test you on those.
Very non-supportive and at times down right condescending. Talk about in his class how we shouldn't worry, that it'll be okay and we'll do fine. But the moment help is needed he either doesn't respond or when he does says "you should talk to the other students in class as they have the material."
Everyone on here is calling him boring but I seriously think he is such a cool funny guy. He tries to take things slow to make sure the class understands and I really appreciate that. but I do have to admit that usually the stuff he discusses is not on the test and the exam questions are more of a short response than show work.
Professor Miura is a very intelligent man, however his teaching is where he falls short. He throws a lot of information at you and doesn't specify what exactly to memorize. Learning reviews tend to be 12 pages long for quizzes that are 5 multiple choice. Class is made much harder than it needs to be.
Overall godd class. You learn about a lot of cool stuff you can apply to your life. But it isn't that easy, you're gonna have to study hard and memorize a lot of information, the majority of which won't show up on the 30 point test. The worst test is 15%, second best is 20%, best is 25%, if you do good on quizzes and homework first test is ditched
He is a wonderful teacher who cares so much about his students and their well-being. He goes over topics slowly and makes sure everyone understands before he moves on. If you read the textbook and take good notes, you will do fine on the tests and homework.
Dr. Miura is great. He tries to help everyone out with the way he weighs the grades and gives homework assignments and quizzes that make up 40% of the total grade. Lowest quiz is dropped, and if you memorize the notes, youll be fine for the exams. Keep up with the WLRs - they help so much!! Listen in class, because says what will be on the exam
Pretty solid professor--class is straightforward, curved grading and some short papers. Packs a lot of info into lectures, which makes the tests difficult to study for, but he's pretty easy to follow. Be sure to memorize the experiments mentioned in lecture for the tests. And don't get the textbook if you take good notes!
If you care about cognitive psych, take this class with someone else. If you don't care about cognitive psych, find another class--don't suffer through this one. He tends to spend 5-10 on slides with less than 15 words on them. Know the studies, or better yet, just don't take this class with him.
Do not take this class. His lecture are boring and his exam extremely difficult. He doesn't know how to teach a class. RUNNNNNNNNNNNNN from this class and from this professor. If you want to fail a class take this one!
Prof. Miura moved very slowly through lecture, so it was often hard to stay focused. He was a tough grader because he required all definitions and explanations to be exactly like his (oddly-worded) defs/explanations. Exams were conceptual and inconsistent with lecture material. It was helpful to read the textbook outside of class!
This professor does not know what he is doing in a classroom. Do not for the life of you take this class. The material is extremely simple, but the way he grades makes it very difficult to get a good grade. Be prepared to teach yourself.
Try to avoid him. The class is lecture heavy so if you skip you will be lost! He never tells you what is on the tests. In class you will learn mostly math, but the tests are all conceptual short answer. His tests are harshly graded because he is very picky about what he wants. Print the slides and write on them as the notes. Write down everything
Professor Miura is extremely vague when it comes to lectures. He only skims through basic information rather than developing detail for the material he is teaching. Be sure to do all the work possible outside of class because he will not be specific during class. This was a lab course and it wasn't as detailed as other courses Ive taken at Loyola.
I personally loved having him for Psych 304, everything was made very clear during lectures and he goes over the problems specifically. His tests are kinda weird bc he focuses a lot on math during lecture but his tests have conceptual idea that need to be explained thoroughly in order to get credit. I recommend honestly
DON'T TAKE HIM!!!! Unless you wanna fail... Lots of studying outside the class for the exam since the explanation in the class is not that useful... although I attended all his classes and recorded the lecture on my phone to make sure not to miss anything and studied really hard for the exam I still got a C with a lot of hard work...
Dr. Miura, while being pretty lecture heavy, clearly knows a lot about the material and cares about his students' understanding of it. He also gives homework assignments that are pretty easy to get As on, which helps boost your grade, and is nice! STUDY FOR HIS TESTS!! They're directly out of his lectures, so if you study you should do well.
Dr. Miura did not give a single lecture during this COVID-19 pandemic and was extremely hard to reach during these hard times and during the normal semester. He is not specific nor clear in his grading criteria and when asked for feedback he takes very long to give answer back. Lectures are long and boring! Do not take his class!
I would never take a class with Dr. Miura again. He took a long time to respond to emails and when he did they were not clear. His office hours were not helpful. He grades extremely hard and expects you to rewrite his definitions word for word on tests. If you do take him, try to get high grades on the homework, it's worth 25% of your grade.
He takes a really difficult topic and makes it incredibly easy to understand.
He is an extremely tough grader (looking for specific wording in exams). He also talks about being available for help anytime outside of class, but when you ask him questions or try to reach out he is either dismissive/passive aggressive or never replies (email). I am currently teaching myself with the textbook. Take this class with someone else!
Horrible professor. Makes it seem like he's available outside of class but, doesn't even come to meetings schedule by email. Grades very hard on exams!!! The homework is worth 25% of the final grade. Lecture is boring and awful. Prepare to teach yourself. If your reading this, DONT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!
Honestly, Professor Miura is a kind and knowledgeable professor. I personally just wasn't all that interested in the course topic itself but, the students in my class who actually were into the course topic I could tell enjoyed it. Overall, Miura is a good professor but the lectures were a bit dull for me.
This class was terrible. He gives no instructions and just expects you to figure out what is due. He is extremely unorganized and never knows what he is suppose to be doing. For the final paper we had to write a research paper based on a group "project". We were not given a rubric or any instructions on what exactly he was looking for. Don't take.
Mr. Miura is never available outside of class, I sent him several emails outside of class and only a few were responded to. He is a tough grader and you may get the answer right to his conceptual questions but if its not worded like how he wants you dont do well. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!
I would not recommend him at all, didn't have any clear set of guidelines, idk if it has to do with being online or what but it was very unorganized and the instructions for the graded assignments weren't clear which is probably because instructions for these assignments are never actually given. Seemed like he was too busy to teach this class.
Prof. Miura is probably the easiest teacher I've ever had. I had him online, so his lectures were incredibly boring. I probably missed half of the lectures (he didn't take attendance), but I just go back on Panopto and set the lecture to 2x speed and I'm fine. 0 quizzes, 4 homework assignments for the whole semester, 3 exams, including final. EZ
Professor Miura is alright. He is really passionate about his lectures. He mostly speaks for the whole class period. Theres 3 test & 3 hw papers thats all that goes in the gradebook.
