His classes are X-rated! Must be mature to attend.
Engaging, a joy to listen to, clearly loves to teach, remembers everyone's name!
If you want a prof. who teaches rather then straight lectures, this is the prof.
excellent at responding to class questions and comments quickly, but loves to boast his strong vocabulary in class. His lectures also seem to be straight from the text, with the occational added quote from another text.
Recognition as a good prof seems to have gone to his head, which is the biggest distraction when he is addressing you. If he were a bit more humble, he would come across better. Clearly he knows his material, though.
Very interesting class, though I found him to be a bit creepy in person. (TOO intent on being super-nice when you speak to him, seems artificial) Talks to much at beginning of class, but really enthusiastic about material and current research/studies.
I found him to make the lectures more confussing and abstract than they should have been. Reading the textbook was enough to do well. But a nice prof anyway.
I have never had a prof that cared so much about his students. Between Tim and his TA chris, they made an awesome pair. It is so nice that Tim wants to get to know you on a level where you are on a first name basis.
great prof - fabulous lecturer, very helpful, clear
Enthusiastic; well structured and easy to understand lectures. Can come off as a bit pretentious though his overly friendly manner of speaking, but is honest and very willing to help when approached. Serious marker; don't expect a good mark if you don't
Very interesting class. Very nice that he refers to everyone on a first name basis, but as to how he figured out my name when i never told him what is what is beyond me!!!
The only reason I enjoyed my years at Carleton was because of Tim's inspiration! Any student would be lucky to have Tim as a prof!
Tim is the best professor ive ever had. I will never forget him. If you ever have a question about the material or any sort of problem to be worked out he is always there for you with bright eyes and a bushy tail!
knows how to teach!
The SMILE !! :D ack! he smiles soo much ,i guess thats a good thing but rather odd! He teaches because it makes him feel good!!
Really good teacher but a little *too* smiley. A bit like a kinderten teacher at times, seems kinda phony to me but he does get you involved. Believe him when he says its not a bird course, he is kinda picky with marks.
As an ITV student I've never felt more included in a class. Clear, interesting, intelligent, and interested in ensuring we learn!
arrogant, self-satisfied...thinks he's god's gift to students... not much of a fan!
Very interesting course. Good prof. Enthusiastic. Study very hard for final. Let's students who love the sound of their own voice get away with too much.
I really enjoyed his lectures. I took his class on ITV so I particularly enjoyed his enthusiasm and sense of humour. His in-class examples and demos are interesting. His course is tough, so be prepared.
a prof who knows how to teach! shock of shocks! tim makes you realise how pathetic your other teachers are, for 400$ a class all prof's should be this good. He inspires the class, and encourages students to participate in the lectures.
Very good at getting back to you if you have questions. Has an excellent TA

Amazing course, well taught! Keep it up. Very interesting and very helpful in all areas of life
full of himself
Great teacher. One of those classes that affect the way you think as much as increasing your ability to spew mindless facts.

spends toooooo much time talking about stupid things that have NOTHING to do with the course. His reviews are terrible.
He was so amazing!!
He really knows his stuff. Very easy to talk too, more than willing to help you if you are having difficulties.
he's amazing.the class is so interesting and he keeps it that way.Great at answering questions and relating to students.knows what he's talking about.one of my favorites at carleton. good looking too;)
He gets to know his student's names which is pretty admirable. You can tell he really cares about the students and is interested in what he's teaching. He's a great prof and not to bad to look at! Exams are fair.
Nice guy. Cares about his students. His exam was ridiculous though. 15 page essay + 100 multiple choice questions on the final. Take this with someone else if you can.
Awesome teacher! Very clear!
A lot of course information, definitely not a bird course, but he is a nice guy and is really willing to help you if you ask for it. He seems passionate about his work.
absolutely awesome prof. best i have had at carleton if not ever. hes so energetic and interested in the material, it makes you excited about it. and excited about him, because hes smoking hot.
Awesome prof!! Very helpful..anyone taking psychology, I definitely recomend this class. Tim is amazing! Not only is he great at teaching, but he actually cares about the students, and what we think of the course.
Professor Pychyl is a great prof who cares about his students and answers everybody's questions. The format of his course makes it easy for anyone to pass. AND he's very good looking and makes you feel like a person, and not just one of the thousands of people in the school. Highly reccomended.

One of the best Profs I've ever had. Very clear, straight forward, presents the material interesting way. Exams are not easy but he is very helpful with any question you might have. I took the course just out of general interest, and I don't regret it at all, highly recommend him.
this was a great class. prof was very good! definitely recommend to anyone in psyc. very clear and doesn't just read off slides (which is a nice change). make sure u read the textbook and classes are full of interesting info. a must take! great prof!
Nice guy, but the exam was ridiculous! Expected to write like a 15pg essay! Apparently, the prof thinks that this is your only class. For an elective, too much work. This class takes up the time that should be devoted to compulsory courses.
An excellent prof, knows his stuff inside out. Class is pretty good, and material is very useful in subsequent courses. Covers a ton of material and expects you to regurgitate it all on the final exam. I wrote a good 15 pages on the essay question in the final
Great Class. Great guy to look at!
awesome proff, good looking, easy on the eyes, understanding, helpful and entertaining!
Great guy. Enjoyed the course more than any other in university. I was sad that it had to end!
Awesome prof and interesting class.
Great prof, knows his stuff and is very interesting...but absolutely ridiculous final exam of 100 multiple choice PLUS a 10-15 page long (single space) essay (from memory), all of which has to be done within 3 hours.
The best prof I've ever had. I didn't finish the final essay, but I still enjoyed the class. I was in the ITV section and I wished I could have gone to more classes. Sad that it had to end.
Excellent teacher. Very enthusiastic about material. Really wants his students to do well. Not a bird course at all-lots of reading. Prof pulls material together well and is very clear about what will appear on the exams. Final exam is tough, but marked very fairly.
This class has a lot of work compared to any other class.. but it's doable... just be prepared to always have something to due every 2 weeks.
Good Class. Tim is a good prof so there is nothing to worry about. A lot of work for a psyc class though.
great class. great prof. one of the best profs. i'v ever had. always willing to help. not bad to look at either. alot of work for a psych class, 2 assignments, 2 midterms, have to do the readings, long final exam but its worth it. interesting class, interesting prof.
crazy man... learnt nothing...he has cute dogs, and thats all i remember from this stupid class :)
Had this prof years ago - inspired my career to go into gerontology.
Great guy! talk about energy. Even on ITV I was kept awake. This guy must have been quite the playboy back in the day ;o)
great prof with a passion to teach. the most engaging class ever. (remote control for taking MC test in class)
Good teacher, nice person.
A very passionate teacher. He really gets the class interested in his lectures. One valuable lesson I learned from this class...He lectures about procrastination...I haven't procrastinated since!
Tim kicks ass! His classes are super interesting (although they are also hard) not a class for the meek, no bird course. lots of work and you NEED to stay on top of your readings if you want to do well. on the plus side, Tim is more than willing to answer any questions you have.TIP print the lecture slide BEFORE class,it will make a huge differece
This class ruled! It was pretty much my favorite part of the week. I wish I was still in his class. Tim has a way of making anything sound interesting. You guys should take this class but remember to keep up with things 'cause it can get hard if you don't.
I loved Tim! He's so helpful and engaging and makes even the dry-est class material super intersting. I only wish I could take more classes with him because I had a blast in his class and learned so much. Anyone that has the opportunity to take one of his classes must take it!!!
I am trying to imagine Tim with a personality....It's not working. If he talks about his dogs one more time...i am going to stab myself in the eye with a dull pencil. Congrats Tim...
So I have decided that I would rather become deaf than listen to Tim talk twice a week for an hour and a half. Way to go tim....*slow clap*
I'm shocked by the negative comments. He is very passionate about personality psych and teaching in general. He does everything he can to try and help his students succeed. I would recommend anyone to take this class with him. He is a fantastic professor!
Tim is an amaazing prof, I love the way he tries to get his students to understand the stuff and not just memorize and vomit it all at the exam. Tim rulez and his class is the highlight of my semester.
Outstanding lecturer!! If you want to learn about Personality and much more, this is the Prof to seek out. Amazing command of field. Course feedback superb; fast and helpful. Yes, you need to be ready to work; he covers the bases and expects you to keep up. But he gives you the best tools. Great podcasts and website. Passionate about your learning.
Awesome. The content of the course can be difficult, but Pychyl goes a long way to maximize your grade in any way possible. Very responsive to comments or concerns, and will readily adjust his teaching method to meet the specific needs of his students.
Timothy is an awesome professor, I highly recommend taking one of his classes. I took his personality course, and it changed my view on the world! He was very helpful, and related the information to applicable stories which were interesting
Great person, even better prof. Was a pleasure to study and volunteer with him.
AMAZING professor. I enjoyed everything about this course. There were two writing assignments and both were very interesting and easy to do well on. The textbook was very easy to read, clear, and interesting. I would definitely recommend taking a course with this professor if you have a chance!
Rambles and rambles his classes contain so much Wetct info you become confused. Cut to the chase we are in university not grade school. Way to much work for .5 cr good to take if you only have a couple classes as he wants this class to change your life. The constant talking will make you sick and he is full of himself and his research do not take
i really dont understand why people love this guy so much. his lectures were impossible to listen to and fairly irrelevant.just read the book like crazy and you're fine.i found going to class a waste of time.please dude stop talking about your dogs and kids, no one cares.all the praise he's gotten has gone to his head. maybe he was good 5 years ago
Really great prof. Interesting lectures. Helpful and addresses all concerns. He expects quite a bit more work from his students than other 2nd (or even 3rd) year profs, so you have to keep up and put in the time. Avoid him if you already have a heavy term and are looking for something simple, other than that, definitely worth taking though.
Great Prof. Makes a lot of use out of WebCT which is very helpful and clear. Very well organized and does not rush through material. Tries to squeeze in as much as he can, but if unable to he will not test on it, which is wonderful. Uses good examples to help relate to the material, has a good sense of humour, and he made this my favourite course.
I thought he was great, got 95% on an essay which was the best mark i've ever gotten on an essay..but has worst exams ever though extremely hard, multiple choice where ABCD are all right, but only one is the 'most right'..could study for days and get only 50% on his exam..all in all would advise taking if your looking for an easy class
Great Prof... although I didn't do as well as I wanted, the classes were very interesting. I found the midterms and exam difficult, though the essay was easy as he clearly laid out his expectations.
I can't say Tim is a bad teacher - because he's a great teacher. His use of webCT, organization, examples, and energy are all excellent. Personal interactions with him are pleasant and warm but his personality during lectures is hard to swallow. He comes off as arrogant, and said more than a couple belitting things.
PHENOMENAL. He keeps you engaged the entire time, always walking up and down the stairs etc. Engaging with the class. Always eager to help you if you have questions. Only thing is, his midterms are HARD. I came out of that class with a B+ and all my other grades and A's and higher. But definitely worth the hard work!
Meh he's not what he's hyped up to be. Great guy, knows his stuff but goes off on tangents that lose you. Doesn't explain exactly what he expects in the sense that he gets offtrack and you're stuck putting pieces together. Hard final.
This prof is AMAZING! He makes everything so clear and easy to understand..He podcasts all the lectures too so if u miss a class u dont need to worry..I loved this class and him!!
Very good prof. Really knows what he is talking about and is extremely passionate. Quite entertaining as well. Exams are fair and there is heavy use from the textbook, but outlined exactly what was going to be on the exams. Essay's topic was completely up to you and was marked relatively easily.
His exams/midterms do not have proper validity. The amount of questions is absurd and does not reflect the course load. It seems he is quite keen on memorization instead of interactive learning. He is very smart but i Do not recommend him what so ever.
A great professor who shows passion & an understanding of the material. His tests are tricky & worded more difficult than they need to be (about half the class failed the first midterm) but if you attend class, read the text & study hard you will do well. I did need to put more effort in to this course but I really enjoyed it. Pychyl is great.
Lots of reading and long papers. Very full of himself as well. Don't take his motivating humans course, it's not structured at all.
Never clear on deadlines or expectations for assignments
Great lecturer with passion and useful information.
Prof Pychyl is super passionate about personality, and it shows in how much he really wants his students to learn. I looked forward to his lectures and barely missed any because they were really enjoyable. His exams are tough and the essay question is pretty intimidating, but I feel like it was worth it in the end :)
He is the most kind-hearted man ever, he really cares about his students and will do what he can to make sure they get good grades. His lectures go in depth on one topic so you HAVE to read the textbook for the midterms and exam. As long as you read the textbook and study, you should be able to get a good mark! Go to office hours, he loves to chat!
very good at lectures, he really cares about his work and the success of his students. he's always there to help you out. make sure to read the textbook and go to class
This class is great with Tim. All the tests are multiple choice and very straightforward. The readings are short and he assigns 20% to the online quizzes attached to them, which boost anyone who tries into the A range. And all of his lectures are recorded and uploaded to CULearn if you're ill. Easy A, interesting class, heavily reccommend.
Prof Pychyl is the most caring teacher I've ever had. He truly cares about his students and wants us to pass his class. His lectures are fun and inspiring. 20% of your final grade consists of reading and taking a quiz once or twice a week depending on the week. Seems like a lot sometimes but so worth it at the end of the semester.
Dr. Pychyl is awesome! He is super down to earth and you can tell he loves his students and is passionate about teaching. Reading the textbook is mandatory since there are quizzes, but the chapters are short and its an easy read / easy 20% mark booster. Exams are fair, but make sure you memorize all the stats from lecture and the readings!
Really interesting content, super manageable, dare I say easy, evaluation. And a passionate and purposeful professor to wrap it all up. If you have an interest in personality psychology and the big 5, you'll probably fine this class thoroughly enjoyable and fair. He also audio records every lecture if you're feeling particularly lazy.
Tim cares so genuinely for his students, its amazing. Hes switched to e-tests so the textbook reading is pretty mandatory but his midterms are pretty textbook-heavy, and its typically an interesting read. Hes an amazing prof!
I found he was intriguing. His lectures were never boring and he really takes into account of your attention- he didnt want to give boring lectures and encouraged feedback to make the course even better. Would definitely recommend!
Extremely personable with all of his students.
Great prof truly.
Best Prof I've had so far!
I absolutely loved Tim, he is by far the best prof I have ever had. So glad I took his class.
Tim is a great prof who is very genuine and accommodating. He posts tons of resources and informative slides as well as podcasts of the lectures so you really have no excuse for not understanding the material. Reading is mandatory and quizzed for marks. He can tend to be overly sensitive to feedback so be careful what you say and how you say it.
Tim Pychl is one of the best Profs that Carleton has. He clearly wants every student to pass his course with a high mark and does everything he can to ensure they do. Readings are mandatory and lecture attendance is really important, however, he records the audio of every lecture and puts them online free of charge, so theres no excuse to miss one
ABSOLUTELY LOVE PROF PYCHYL!! he was so amazing and always gave the most amazing feedback and ideas! highly recommend him as a professor. He made an Async class less stressful and the weekly writing assignments were fairly easy. One of the best Professors!
