u dont have to do a lot of the reading he assigns...only if he says there will be a discussion about it the next day and even then just breeze over it...the papers aren't to bad either to write
He's great!
He's a cool guy, but doesnt explain everything in full detail. Pretty easy class.
He's a really good teacher, Kinda sounds like Ben Stein, but if you do your papers he's cool, also he is a very easy grader. Prob the best ENG 368 teacher available
Awesome professor. Grades papers very fairly, not always clear about assignments in class, but if you go to him after class, he's always willing to help you out. Definitley take him.
doesn't explain anything clearly. takes too long to grade papers. only 4 papers in the whole semester.
he seems a little awkward in front of the class, like he's embarassed to be there, but he gets the job done. if you ask him about whatever, he'll clear it up right quick.
Easy. takes attendance, but cancels alot of class. nice/fair guy
Nice guy, easy class, just really boring to listen to. Monotone voice. Only three assignments.
extremely nice guy. very monotone voice and somewhat boring class but there is always group work and class discussions. no tests just papers that he helps you with every step of the way. good class!
not as cool and easy as you may think.boring to listen to, strict attendance policy, and tedious assingments. that said, he's a relatively easy grader. avoid his summer class. it's loaded with work. I got an A-
He's a nice guy, good prof. He doesnt like it when people miss class; he takes attendence very seriously, so dont miss class. Easy class tho
very nice guy and his class isn't that hard. he gave a lot of individual attention when needed. he has a very monotone voice, but it wasn't a problem.
nice guy easy class wrote four papers and did a lot of reading. he could be unclear at times but if you ask him about something he can set you straight. only drawback was he took a long time to grade papers. would probably take him again
Overall the class was pretty easy. 3 major essays and some daily responses. Easy to approach, however he took a while to return stuff. I would take him again.
Awesome PROFESSOR!! Took him first semester and now I'm taking him again. He's a little unclear at times but if you ask questions he'll set you straight. He is very approachable and gives a lot of individual attention if you're willing to give the time. Fairly easy grader-takes a while to return.
He's an easy teacher, however he's a tad slow when it comes to grading papers. As long as you show the effort and do the papers and revisions you'll do fine. He's not that hard of a teacher. Just show the effort and you'll do fine.
Nice guy, very approachable and helpful. There are three major essays and daily responses. He is a pretty easy grader, but takes a while to get papers back to you. Easy A! I would recommend him to anyone.
Really nice person and a great teacher. Easy teacher, but lets you know what he wants. Very clear with directions and such. Only bad part is class never starts on time. I would take another class taught by him
Dr. Ray is fantastic!! I learned sooo much in his class. He loves "Greatful Dead". I took him this summer, there is a load of work, but you will learn alot from him. He is also available to help you with your assignment questions. I would highly recommend him!!
Everything that we did in class helped me later on in life. Able to do a good resume, reports, etc.
He is a good teacher, but there is A LOT of readings to do in his class
Great teacher. An old Deadhead. Very real, very human. He's a great teacher. Take him!!! Just do your work and reading and you should do well.
Fab Teacher, funny! I love his use of the dead in everything. I ened up with an A- and i didn't do all of the readings. He's Great! Take his class!
This is seriously the first teacher I have had in the past couple years that truely cares about his students. If you keep up on all the readings and reviews, you will get an easy A. Don't miss class though, so you understand what is going on, even though he will clue you in.
If you need to take a 200 level writing course then this one is for you. Dr. Ray is super helpful, very interesting, and an easy grader. Be prepared for lots of little reading responses but don't worry...they're easy to BS. I definately recommend him, great prof!
Great guy! There were a lot of readings but he cut back when we said it was hard to do. The essays were interesting to write and he was a fair grader. I'd definitely take another class by him.
Dr. Ray is not only a wonderful professor, but also wonderful person. He is the only professor I've ever had that still recognizes me a year after I took him and says hi or waves when I see him on campus. His class was great because he acted interested in the material which kept it from being boring. He is very approachable with questions. Take hi
I really enjoyed Dr. Ray's class. He's a really nice guy and actually cares about his students. The assignments (only three essays) are really easy. Participate in his class...he really stresses having open communication within his class.
dr. ray is one of the nicest, most down-to-earth guys. he's fair on grading essays, and just an easygoing guy in general. i guess it's the deadhead in him (he's a grateful dead fan). he knows exactly what he's talkin bout cause he's a member of a regional writing conference or something like that. he speaks in monotone, but that doesn't matter.
Nicest guy ever. You can tell he genuinely cares about his students....always willing to help...go to his office and bug him. I always did and I think it payed off...got an A.
SUPER SWEET! He cares so much about his students. A little unorganized BUT overall a great guy!
Ray is awesome, he can take whatever you throw at him and somehow tie it into the lecture. Ask him to make something due later and he will do it, very fair guy. Cool person to talk to.
This class had three major papers and they were all very easy. His class was enjoyable to go to and the grading was fair. A real good class to take if you need a 200 level writing course
It's hard to pay attention in his class. You'll do fine as long as you do his blogs and turn your papers in on time.
He's cool and extremely laid back, 4 papers throughout the year and a powerpoint presentation. He does give a lot of readings though and u have to post responses on the class blog. I would take him again.
Very nice and relaxed teacher but I don't know why everyone likes him so much. He isn't easy and he goes through material too fast...not to mention he talks so slow and its annoying. Going to that class, while it was easy, was so annoying.
This class was extrememly easy, and Dr. Ray is always willing to give students breaks, and listen to excuses. Because the class is a gen ed, it was a little big, which didn't allow for much discussion. I think it would be a better class, with smaller class size. Overall the class was an easy A!
Dr. Ray is pretty awesome. He was always willing to help students. The class was easy for me because I had prior knowledge of the content, however he did go a little too fast for some students. It was a struggle to go to class sometimes because I was so bored... and it was a night class. FYI - textbook was never used.
Very helpful, easy going professor. Reminds me more of an editor than a professor. I took a longer class with him and it was a bit torturous, but he gives great feedback and understands technical writing very well.
Dr. Ray is super kind and caring of his students. Takes attendance every class but lets you on your phones and computers. Didnt use text book. Did use the reading book. Class was boring, but he posts everything online. Easy A and a super great guy. I would take him again! Also played random funny youtube vids or music vids in beginning of class.
Dr. Ray is a great guy and he is really nice, but he thinks that everyone wants to become a pop. culture theorist when they grow up. He only teaches theory of pop. culture which made a subject that I thought would be interesting extremely boring. I absolutely dreaded going to class and I actually had to study for his tests. Does his with clickers.
Dr. Ray is the nicest guy! The class is an easy A! He may go on little rants about the Grateful Dead, but overall the class was enjoyable. He always shows interesting videos although connecting to the reading. VERY nice and interesting professor.
He is seriously the nicest professor I've had. He always let us go early, the work is really easy, and he is really helpful. It can sometimes be really boring, but you could always tell he was trying his best. I highly recommend him!!
This is a great class! He is very helpful, always lets you go early, and tests are straight from the notes. TAKE THIS!!
Very nice guy, kind of like a pushover. All quizzes used clicker. He canceled almost every assignment. I did not have to read the books and I did the bare minimum and still passed. I kind of feel bad for him, but his class was definitely easy to get through with little to no effort. He takes attendance but is very unorganized.
Easy class. Uses clickers for attendance and tests. His quizzes are right off his slideshows so textbook is barely needed.
This class is a total bore, only went to class to work on his projects or, more commonly, another classes project. Take this class easy A to suffer through sitting a boring lecture.
Use his office hours for extra help, he's happy to clarify anything. Really nice guy, try not to take advantage of him. Class can move slow at times but he is also really interesting in what he teaches.
The worst writing class I've taken at WCU. He rambles about his favorite band that has nothing to do with the topic, he's never organized and never sets up D2L drop boxes or discussions on time. Also, don't expect an email back from him for a few days. When he assigns a paper you have no idea what he's talking about. AVOID!
Don't expect to get any type of feedback or constructive criticism regarding your work. He tends to focus more on himself and what is going on in his life rather than the curriculum. His instructions are extremely vague and he doesn't care to clarify. Definitely would not take him again.
Just take the class if you want an easy class but its still pretty boring. We had 3 easy essays the entire semester and I got 100% on all of them. Talks about boring stuff that you won't be tested on or need to learn. Pushes dates back all the time.
Do not take his Seminar on the Grateful Dead. He shoveled books and movies at us and used the class as a vehicle for his fandom of this band. Did not do any readings for 3/4 of semester and still got 100%. In a class of 14 people, he asked me what me name was on the last day of class. Easy A, but a pretty lousy professor.
Professor Ray was always willing to help when you asked for it. I struggled sitting through class sometimes, but most were split into workshops which helped. The assignments seemed long, but he gives you plenty of time and once you start them, you can fill up the space pretty quickly. Overall I enjoyed the work for his class.
Dr. Ray is an easy going guy, who definitely comes off weird. At the end of the day he's very laid back and just wants you to do the assignment and somewhat benefit from it. Had him for 3 hours, definitely boring, but never lasts the full time. Easy A if you can manage the boring lectures.
super easy grader and super nice guy but his lectures were pretty boring
If you take Dr. Ray and do your assignments, you will get an A. He lays everything out and really helps you with your papers. Attendance is mandatory so just show up. He lectures and it is very boring but great professor. Just put some effort into your writing and he will give you an A.
Great Guy. Gen-ed Writing was chill.
Our class about blogging used mostly books from 2006 and before. The prof obviously taught the class the same way since then. Not a bad professor I'm sure but this class in particular was taught very lazily. It was honestly insulting to have to write summaries of books about the internet from the early 2000s and pretend they were still relevant.
Most unprepared, lazy professor I've ever taken. Class has been taught the same way for nearly a decade it seems because all the info we learned was outdated. He cancelled class constantly yet was still strict with OUR attendance.
Awesome professor!! Gave me an A!
EXTREMELY boring, forgets what to say next during lectures frequently, talks about random stuff instead of actually teaching the material, and exams/quizzes based all on a very dry, hard-to-read book. Will never take this professor again.
The class is easy and if you're trying to fulfill a gen ed its easy. But don't expect to enjoy the class. He's so unorganized, half the class walks out 20 minutes into his lecture because it is a waste of time. Quizzes and exams are open note outside of class, get a group take it together. One final project, its easy but time you'l never get back.
professor ray was an interesting professor. one, he wasnt always behind with his assignments and honestly he takes a while to respond to emails. but he was an easy professor. if you need to take a gen ed for lit, he recognizes that its only gen ed and he dosnt give you a hard time
Extremely unorganized! Very nice professor but each week is a new story, you need to check D2L everyday for unexpected assignment.
Professor Ray is one of my favorite's. He's so sweet and helpful. If ur ever confused about an assignment u just have to talk to him or contact him and he's always available and does a really good job helping. He's also kind of hilarious. He understands that some of us struggle with writing and he is a really lenient grader.
Professor Ray is a nice guy, but get ready to work. He assigns huge assignments and is the hardest grader I've yet to have. I came to his office hours so he could help me out on a paper so I could get a good grade. I listen to all his feedback and implemented it in my paper and he didn't even give me a passing grade. So much effort just to not pass
Makes ya think
Overall a really solid professor. Gave good feedback when we were writing papers. There was just a lot of homework and the final assignment was pretty nuts.
Definitely one of the harder classes I took. He randomly throws the "theory of writing" papers on top of major essays so you are constantly having to balance what to do. Honestly his class is not worth the work for a requirement.
He is very nice professor and I would say that his class is not that difficult. He's an easy grader and is there to help with any issues. That being said, his class is very boring and disorganized. The due dates and grading criteria was usually very vague.
Only 3 major papers for the whole class. He's bad at giving clear instructions as to what the papers consist of and at responding to emails as he doesn't respond for a few days. He's very nice and usually works with you, but he tends to ramble about random stuff not related to class. But pop culture was more fun then a regular research paper class
Dr. Ray was an amazing teacher to have. He always would reply to emails, unlike other teachers at WCU. He always wanted to make sure everyone was succeeding in his class and will go out of his way to help you. As long as you do the work on time, you will get an A. He is a good teacher to take if you are trying to fill a gen-ed requirement.
Nice guy, lectures are very boring. He tends to speak about things unrelated to class for extended periods of time.
This guy sucks, terrible lectures where he drags on for an hour about literally nothing that you will need to know. Bad grader, very vague with his grading and take a while to do it. For some reason insists on having multiple library sources for every paper, even though that they are not beneficial what so ever, do not take this professor!!!
I've never been so "meh" about a professor. He's a very nice and approachable guy. Almost like a grandpa. But his class didn't really capture my attention. All the assignments felt like hurdles just so I can get my A. His class isn't super hard and I didn't gain much from it. But he's still a great guy and I'd recommend him especially for a gen ed.
Dr. Ray is cool. He loves lecturing about music in the beginning of class. We had 3 essays, and he has shown to be an easy grader. Some weeks he piles on assignments as he'll give us discussion posts to complete on top of our essay development. We watched "Almost Famous" which was so #fun and I have enjoyed writing all my papers.
Dr. Ray is a great teacher. If you do the work and follow his instructions, you'll get an A. He loves to talk about music, which some may find boring, but I really didn't mind. You get to pick all of your essay topics which makes the class fun. I recommend taking him! Not a tough grader at all. Very kind, cool guy
I loved Dr. Ray this semester in WRT204! There are three major papers for the class plus a presentation that goes along with the last paper (and you get to choose all your topics!). He is a very easy grader and gives good feedback on your writing, which really made me a better writer. I would definitely take his class for an easy writing gen ed.
Very sweet man who loves his music. Doesn't use the D2L calendar so its hard to keep track of due dates if your are not in class. He is a easy grader and nice guy.
Dr. Ray is very kind & is willing to work with you. But I really don't enjoy his class. It's nothing like pop culture I expected to talk about & it's so lecture heavy, easy to zone out. Only 3 papers but they are all pretty packed & he is kinda vague about whats needed. I would not take the class again.
Professor Ray is a very nice guy and I personally found this class very easy. "Weekly" reading quizzes (we actually didnt have them weekly). One final research project. Lectures are lengthy but everything is accessible for our online exams. I took this class as a major requirement and I am glad he was my prof as it was easy. Not good abt emails.
Easiest grader ever, just show up to class. This man is so boring, but he is kind to his students. I barely tried on anything and did great because I bothered to turn in my work and show up to class.
pretty boring class, but easy. Very nice professor, just a little unorganized and doesnt give very clear instructions. As long as you show up to class and get things done on time you will get an A, very easy grader.
Lecture heavy and a little disorganized. His projects allowed me to look into whatever I wanted to research which helped me. WRT 204 isn't necessarily about memes or things like that but things that are happening right now. Even though the class wasn't what I expected, I still enjoyed it.
Professor Ray was a good professor, but sometimes the lectures were very boring. He is such an easy grader though so I recommend.
Dr. Ray was not a good professor, his class was easy enough to get a A in but not worth taking just for the grade. I found him boring, sexist, and kind of odd. People rarely attend lectures because he only takes attendance half the time and the lectures are boring and dont make sense to most of us. I would not take any classes with him again.
I honestly never went to class, but still got an A since everything is posted online. There's a research project at the end of the semester, but it was very easy and manageable.
Dr. Ray's class was not hard but not easy either. He is VERY sexist and odd. I rarely attended his lectures because he only takes attendance half the time (and does not use it as a grade). The lectures are EXTREMELY boring and don't make sense to most of us (also are not relevant to what we are learning). If you're seeing this do not take the class
Overall, Professor Ray's class was fine. Very lecture heavy. He said he was taking attendance every class, but I didn't attend most classes and realized at the end of the semester that attendance wasn't even graded. His lectures were peculiar sometimes, very raunchy which I wasn't expecting. He's just your average boring professor.
Dr.Ray is the man, actually one of the nicest professors I have ever had. He is super laid back and truly a nice guy. Lectures can be a little boring but hes the man. Definetely would recommend professor Ray
great guy cares about the course
Dr. Ray was really sweet. His lectures were a bit boring, and the content was really easy. He's an easy grader as well. There's two reviews calling him sexist, not sure why, but he addressed it in class and was really genuine about wanting students to correct him if he ever offends anyone. I respect that a lot.
Dr. Ray was super kind and always thoroughly explained the assignments. His lectures were never really helpful and it was more so him just rambling, but the asynchronous work days were the important parts. You have 3 main papers that he gives you plenty of time to get done and lots of help. This was an easy class and he's really nice.
Not a very good lecturer, usually ends up rambling and getting completely off-track during class instruction. Paced awkwardly as well, we weren't finished learning about what he even expected of our first essay a day or two before our first draft was due. Lots of discussion posts and peer response in online modules, and a ton of recorded lectures.
Nice guy but the pacing of this class is just awful. I'm normally good at keeping track of things but he contradicts his own due dates, introduces new assignments way before we submit the previous ones, or posts about previous assignments after we turned them in. Lots of readings, discussion posts, and workshops. Easy work but hard to follow.
I'll be honest, the in-person sessions of the course I took felt a little unnecessary. But Dr. Ray makes class very simple. As long as you turn in a document with words on it, you're pretty much guaranteed an A lol
