He does try very hard to make the class interesting, and he is great when it comes to helpfulness. We did not use the book once but thankfully he purposefully chose a very cheap book.
Great class! He was very passionate about what he was teaching and covered the book in his powerpoints and was very clear on what he wanted us to write for the papers which we wrote 4 and they were easy, and reviewed for the mid term and final and went over what he wanted for the essay portion.
Mr Russel is a very good teacher if you want to learn. he is not the easiest teacher, but he is the best he makes lectures fun and interesting and he is passonate about his proffesion
He is very passionate about his profession and did a great job explaining everything. He is not the easiest teacher but as long as you pay attention and show up to class you should get an A. He did a great job at making the subject interesting as well.
One of my favorite teachers here in Norco. He is extremely passionate about this class and he is well informed of everything he covers in class. He purposefully chooses cheap textbooks that you rarely use. His tests are pretty easy if you pay attention in class and he gives you the questions in the writing portion ahead of time
Professor Russell is an excellent professor. He assigns 4 essays based on readings and helps you the whole way. There are 2 tests total all based entirely on his powerpoint lecture. Very clear and simple format. Also, he is very unbiased in his teaching of the subject.
Russell knows what he's talking about. he makes class interesting and is very clear with what he expects from his students. Take his class if you want to learn and still be able to earn a good grade.
Even though history has never been my friend, this is one of the best classes that I've ever taken. He's so enthusiastic about what he teaches and makes me more interested in what he's about to say.
Russell is an extremely helpful professor. He makes all his assignments clear and breaks them down so its impossible not to get an A. He complements his material with movies and videos so it never gets too boring. Must take his class!
Recommend him!.great teacher!.definetly would take him again!.
Took this class hoping to actually learn something for once, and i actually did. He is very passionate about what he teaches, in the process he pulls you in to the topic. It may sound odd but when he describes events in civil war u feel ur on the battlefield. 4 essays vary clear, midterm, n final same lay out plus review guide. I recommend him :
I loved this professor, he's super clear and very helpful. He made me fall in love with history with that way he explained the stories made you feel like your living those Era's. I highly recommend his class
Absoulty WonderfulTeacher! Would take his Class Again In A Heart Beat, Im ATctually Kind Of Sad That I Dont Need Any More History Classes. Very CleAr And Paitent. He Is One Of THose professorsS That Make An Impreasion.
He is good at what he does. He makes learning history feel like a story book. He is a real nice guy and wants you to do good. If you fail the class then you were just trying to fail it there is no way you shouldn't get a B or higher. Wish him luck on finding a full time job with his new Ph.D
The Instructor is very helpful and clear with the subject. As a student you would find it very interested and very helpful to learn History with an Awesome Instructor as he is.
As a student you would find it very interested and very helpful to learn History with an Awesome Instructor as he is.
In all the years I've been in college I've never seen a professor as passionate about his work as he is about his students. He makes you realize that these events truly existed. He makes you realize how that came to be. If you want a teacher that brings history to life, take him!
As long as you pay attention and take notes you'll do good. We had 4 short essays, midterm, and final so you need to do well on everything to pass the class. Essays on both tests but he explains exactly what should be on them. Very helpful.
Awesome Professor! Makes me excited about being a history major again. Attend lectures and do study guides. 4 Short essays, make sure you include a lot of quotes. He's always willing to help out if you just ask.
What can I say that the previous reviewers have not? This is a great teacher who loves his subject. 4 short essays, midterm, final, and participation grade. Midterm and Final are essay tests with a short multiple choice. He is willing to help you edit your papers prior to submitting them. Can't wait to take him again!
Professor Russell is the greatest History Teacher. He is very helpful. I really recommend his class.
I found this class to be entertaining and Professor Russell is great at teaching. Class was completely based on his powerpoint lectures. Gave us 3 essays and a midterm and final. Essays were only had to be 2 pages. Mr Russell really cares about his students and wants you to succeed.
Such an amazing instructor! Russell is so helpful and honest with you. Unlike other instructors he actually cares about you and how you do in the class. I will definitely take him again!
This teacher has been so wonderful. Taking him two back to back semsters for my history credits has been great. Not only is he teaching stuff in a way that you actually understand it and find it interesting, but he is also funny & kind. I really recommend taking this teacher for anyall your history classes. I wish he was a full time professor!!!!!
He was a good teacher, class is pure lecture. I didn't read the textbook once. He said you didn't need too either. He was very helpful and made sure everyone understood the material before moving on and would answer all your questions during and after class. His class was easy, the worst grade i heard of in the class was a B-. I took him a chaffey
He's amazing. Hands down amazing. I've always enjoyed history, but he takes it to the next level. He's very passionate and truly wants to share the stories of the past with you. He's very kind, very funny, and extremely helpful. I'm in his winter 6 class right now and took his 7 a while ago. TAKE HIM, stop scrolling.
Great class except its all basically lecture which can be boring but his notes are great! Never used the book. His class is 3 Exams w a short essay question which he assigns early on so you know what to study and then 3 short 2 maybe 3 pages long essays. overall really easy and skipping class a couple times not a big deal!
He was an amazing Professor who made the class really interesting.
He's an amazing professor. His lectures are always interesting, never boring. Test and essays are easy! Just read your notes and STUDY them. He's also funny and kinda cute.
Very good Teacher only has 2 test and 4 eassys he'll go over the official document on what it is about so take notes before you do the essay . If you ask him he'll go over your eassy with you and give you really detailed feedback on what you should do to fix it up to get a better grade. His test are half multiple choice and half essay
Not a major fan of lecture classes nor history, but Russells is excellent at communicating and approaching the subject in a way that makes remembering and event a bit more easy. Give in mind that there is a need to be present in class to gain the full experience of the subject. With that said overall a very well taught class.
He is so boring, all he does is go by the lecture slides. I get bored when there is no variety when someone is teaching. Overall he's easy but you have to pay attention in class which is hard because he never stops talking which makes it seem like his class drags on. Only 3 test the whole semester & 3 essays. Pretty easy, but boring nonetheless.
Mr, Russell isn't a bad teacher, but i must say his classes are really boring its all power point slides it made me not want to go just to say i lost interest with in a week. i am the type that needs worksheets, group projects in order for me to understand the concepts and actually have a motive to learn the material. Still don't know squat.
I never thought I would be interested in history but Professor Russell really made this course interesting. He was in the Navy and his passion for history shows. It's a lecture every class, but it's so easy to just pay attention and study before the tests. He keeps it entertaining-- and that's coming from someone who didn't care about history :)
His lectures were long, but always interesting and renewed my love for history. He would go over the documents we'd make essays on and even go over your essay if you sent it to him early enough. Everything was easily accessible online and exams were easy if you paid attention to his lectures.
He is a really nice teacher and his teaching is very well. But his class everyday is only lectures the entire period which can be really boring and your entire grade is based off on only like 3 test which aren't easy either.
Cool guy
Professor Russell loves history, cares about his students, and is very intelligent. He wants to make sure you actually understand the material, and challenges you to become a better student.
Professor Russell was without a doubt a great professor and his love for history shows. Your grade will be based off of 3 exams and 3 essays. Understand your overall grade is out of 1000 points not what appears on blackboard . I did not know this so I thought I was doing better than I was. He takes participation seriously so add to the lectures.
Absolutely loved having Professor Russell for California History. The expectations he has for students are clear - show up, pay attention, and apply knowledge from readings and notes toward the essays and tests. Each class is a PowerPoint which he uploads online before class. His sense of humor and enthusiasm made listening very easy and enjoyable!
The textbook wasn't really needed except the smaller one for an essay. His class was lecture and take notes. His class is fairly easy and he gives an interesting feedback and I loved the topic.
He's a great professor. The textbook is never used so save your money! Class is purely lectures (which are accessible online also) and every few weeks we'll have a test that is half questions and half essay. Very simple. The only homework we had was to read poems for discussion. He is friendly but is ex military so he can be tough too.
Honestly an amazing professor, If I did not have to transfer, I would have taken another course with him. Can guarantee that you will love him! Just put in the effort and if you're suppose to read it, read it.
Profesor Russell was the best professor I've ever had. He loves what he does, and he genially wants you to pass the class. He doesn't offer any extra credit, so its really important to use the study guid for the 3 test he gives and to read up on the web for the assignments he gives (three short papers). Take his class, you won't regret it.
Prof Russell was a good professor & you can really tell that he loves what he teaches. He makes the class feel like it's one big storytime. He's personable which is nice when you approach him for questions, which he is eager to answer. You are only given 3 papers through the course and 3 tests (notecards are a MUST tO study). PARTICIPATION MATTERS.
I took Professor Russell for History 6. He was honestly a VERY good teacher. There were 3 exams (including the final) each exam included an essay question that is worth half your grade. He tells you EXACTLY what he wants in the essay so as long as you take good notes your will be fine. There are also 3 essays. He is VERY helpful if you just ask!
You can tell that he does care for your grade. You have 3 essays that are 1-2 pgs long on primary documents. He goes over what he wants included and basically helps you write it. Pay attention to his lectures and you should be fine with the exams. There are only 3 exams including final and those have in class essays. Great teacher overall.
Use to hate history, now I love it! He makes his lectures come alive and the midterm and final are straight from his lectures/powerpoints. 3 essay assignments that can be a little challenging but explains them well in class. Definitely would want to take his class again! PS the tests are half multiple choice half essay.
Really amazing professor. I had him for Winter 2017. He is Lecture heavy however they are really interesting. Maybe that is just because i like history. He is a tough grader when it comes to essays. You have to give it all you got. Take good notes, and you'll be fine.
A great teacher. His lectures are put together as great stories. That said, his lectures are intense. You really have to pay attention. He covers a lot of information. He assists by providing links to his power points. Print them out before class and take notes on printout to use as study guide later. Grades tough on essays. Loved the class.
I liked Prof Russel, his lectures were long but his tests are easy. JUST READ!! Reading is hugely important and he said he was going to try and cut down his lectures. He grades papers kind of harsh so put extra work into them.
Dr. Russell is a great professor who is very knowledgeable about United States History. His office hours are also very open and he gives great insight and tips for a paper or to study for a test. I recommend taking his class!
Great professor. He's lecture heavy, sure, but the lectures are awesome and interesting. You'll have 3 tests and 3 essays, he gives detailed study guides and maps out what you need to include in the essays. He puts the powerpoints online so I recommend printing them out in outline format before the lecture and taking notes on that.
This class is PURE lectures! tests are really easy, all it is is memorization. You also have to write an essay after each test which aren't so bad. Just include a lot of key terms because i feel like that is all he notices. Oh! and participate, he gets mad when no one raises their hands.
Dr. Russell is a great professor. He posts study guides & slides on blackboard far in advance which makes the multiple choice part of the tests easy. Gives you the essay prompt early also. Take your essays seriously. You're going to write about 6. The book isn't required, the trade off is that he lectures every class for the entire class.
Professor Russell is very personable and entertaining, but I wouldn't recommend if you need discussion and activities feel most stimulated. I often found myself dozing off due to the lack of interaction. Though there's a lot of material, Professor Russell covers it well.
Lectures arw interesting and engaging. Hes funny and has lots of stories to tell. He gives deep detail about the topics you are learning. Doesn't make you know any dates. Tests and essays are fairly easy as ling as you show up to the class or read the power points. He's very kind and he is one of my favorite professors. Great class overall.
He is great professor his work is easy and very interesting lecture .When you need help he is their to help you. And his study guide helps a lot for up coming test. I would take his class again. I wish there are more professor like him
By far one of my favorite professors so far. His class is quite lecture-heavy and participation-based, however, he hardly gives any work besides a few brief papers. The exams are easy as long as you pay attention in class. He's a very down-to-earth guy and genuinely wants his students to succeed. Would take his class again in a heart beat.
5/5 he is such an awesome teacher, would honestly consider joining history club even though its not my mayor, he is inspirational and easy to get along with, you just have to put in the work. Also, participation is required, and if you pay attention and take good notes youll pass his class highly recommend him.
Hes really passionate about his class and it shows when he lectures. He tries to make it as interesting as possible and it doesnt feel like a lecture. More like a story.
I took his class during winter. His lectures can be fun but a two hour class becomes a little tedious. He does require attendance but overall I feel like I learned a lot and would definitely take him again.
Took his African-American studies course and was amazed by how engaged he was in the lectures which are interesting to learn. Easy course, but recommend to read to the book (easy read). 3 essays, 3 exams, and extra credit paper. Prof. Russell will answer any question you have and always offer to help you understand the lectures.
Hands down my favorite professor for history, never thought i would be so interested. I was required to take HIS6, loved the class and took HIS7 and HIS14. He is very reasonable and kind to accept to edit your essay early for good feedback. You can tell that he care to help you and not sink you, just talk to him before deadlines. Thanks Russell!
I left high school HATING history. I had to take History 6 and I dreaded it however the very first class had my attention the whole time. That never changed! His lectures are like a story and you look forward to hearing more of it! (Also you never have to read.)I now want to take his History 7 class and I refuse to take any other professor for it!
Prof Russell is a super funny guy who is incredibly passionate about history. He structures exams to be multiple choice and essay, but he gives you the format and outline for the essay weeks in advance. The papers you write are discussed in class a week before they are due, and he literally just wants what was discussed. He makes time for students.
Professor Russell is an amazing professor. His lectures are very thorough and he is always ready to answer any questions students may have. He is very approachable and wants to help his students understand the material. Attendence is recommended, as he covers a lot of important information in class.
Prof. Russel is a goofball! He cares about his students, has good intentions, and his class was easy to pass, so i rated him a four. However, the entire class- EVERY SINGLE DAY, is solely lecture. It does get boring and you have to push yourself to go. He is very chill and exams are not hard. I was 2% away from an A, because i always got B+'s
Professor Russell definitely knows what he is talking about. The class is just lecture, tests, and essays, but honestly lecture is kinda boring. He goes over what will be on the essays and tests and he is always open to questions.
Very easy class. 3 papers which are 2-3 pages long. 3 exams which are 25 questions and an essay that he does help you on. He also gives you all 3 study guides and goes over the readings (for your papers) with you. Gives good feedback and tells you what he expects. Hes not boring at all, hes very passionate about his job. HIGHLY recommend him.
Timothy Russell is probably one of the best professors I have ever had. He always returns to you're emails with answers to you're questions and is constantly available to assist you. He is organized and doesn't go much off topic, plus he's pretty funny too! He is a very seasoned professor and I absolutely recommend him!
He made the class interesting. Sometimes history can be boring but he always made it entertaining. You do 3 papers and two tests. Pay attention in class and do the readings and you'll be fine. The study guides are great but its a lot of information so I recommend you start filling them out as soon as you get the chance.
He was great. Even if you do not like US History he will make this class enjoyable and will learn things you did not know about the early stages of our country. Very approachable and made his lectures fun and interactive by including students. Tests were not hard if you studied and he was super helpful on the essays. Great professor and great class
Professor Russell was honestly one of my most favorite professors at Norco College. In his honors history, you'll never feel bored and always keep you on your toes. We were only graded on a few papers, participation, and a student-led discussion so there was little room to mess up. But if you stay on top of your work this class will be a favorite!!
Professor Russell is a real gem. He is very respectable, and funny! Lectures are amazing, but very dense so try not to miss a day! He is really inspiring, so I find myself now really interested In furthering my education In history, although I am a music performance major. Tests require LAQs and the other half is multiple choice!
will have you read a few books and write a few essays. tests answers are from the lectures. He will answer your questions. just pay attention to the lecture and the class will be a cool breeze.
This professor is great. He teaches his class as if he is telling a story, made it interesting to view his lectures. Not boring at all! He records all his lectures just in case you can't watch them live. Tests were multiple choice with an essay question, but he does guide you through it during his lectures.
Best advice I can give is to get into a study guide. He gives study guides that are very long so get int a group so each person has a section. 3 books, 2-3 essays pretty simple just read. No hw just discussions board we had 5-6 worth 10 pts, exams 200, essays 100. He replies quick but only after 8am and before 8pm. Easy class
Professor Russell is by far my favorite professor. He really wants his students to do well. There are three papers but with each one he read our drafts and critiqued them before we submitted the final draft. There are also three tests but are easy if you pay attention and take notes on lectures. I highly recommend this class and this professor.
Be prepared to watch and absorb a lot of information from his lectures. He assigns 2 hour long lectures a week and doesn't assign many assignments. Instead theres tests that involve essay questions along with other essays during the course. For the essay he expects very specific things, basically he expects you retell his lectures in essay format.
Pretty light class and learnee a good amount of US History.
Professor Russell is a great professor. He is very understanding and provides many opportunities to pass the class. He only gives out three exams, each with an essay question, that he gives you, and three essays. He also gives out extra credit, a study guide for every exam, and lets you turn in a rough draft for feedback for every essay. Best prof!
Professor Russel was a great professor. Attendance isn't mandatory but I found his lectures very helpful and instead of feeling like I was taught strictly from slides, he talked about key points from the slides and explained more. Only three exams & 3 papers too, accepts rough drafts before the due date, and has a whole study outline for each exam.
Professor Russell is knowledgeable. His coursework consists of a couple of discussions, essays, and 3 exams, each with 26 questions; one of which was an essay question. He is a tough grader. He never gave me full credit for any essay; however, he does offer his students the opportunity to submit rough drafts for his review. His feedback is helpful.
Prof Russell is a good professor. Will read your rough draft before submitting a essay and gives very good feedback. A chill professor that cares for the students. He makes the lectures interesting and knowledgeable.
I LOVEEEE PROFESSOR RUSSELL, he's by far the best history teacher i've ever had. There's a couple tests and 3-4 page long papers but they're spaced out really well. His lectures are really detailed and informative so you will be able to grasp all the content in the course. Participation matters in this course!!!!
This teacher is so ahh, Essay mean was 60.
He is extremely passionate about History and caring towards his students. His class is lecture-heavy and attendance is encouraged, not mandatory. He provides PP slides and review packets for each chapter. His tests were a variety of multiple-choice questions and an essay prompt. History is usually my weakest subject, but I enjoyed taking his class.
He's a good professor. HOWEVER, he's not suitable for ppl alr taking other hard classes and his reviews are NOT transparent of this. His class demands a lot of time because there are roughly 6 assignments (worth 100+) and if you slip once, there goes your grade. He's a tough grader too, so if you want to keep your 4.0 just keep moving lol.
If you care about GPA avoid this class otherwise great teacher and lecture.
Professor Russell is an amazing professor. His lectures are clear, and he shows how passionate he is about history every single day. This class taught me a lot and made an overall better analyzer and writer. The class is graded by few things and it does impact your grade easily but if you truly do want to LEARN and not js pass, he's ur guy!
Russell is a very good teacher!! His lectures are very interesting, they genuinely teach you a lot, and you can tell he is very passionate about history. He gives you many chances to get his advice before you turn in your work. Although he can be a tough grader, his feedback is detailed and very helpful. Be prepared to put in work for that grade.
