Fun professor. Always has interesting stories to tell. Great legs!
Great professor. Extremely HOT!!!!
Great teacher with crazy stories. He would be an even better person if he voted for Bush instead of not voting at all.
interesting classes, very enjoyable. love to listen to his stories!!! and the fact that he's good looking helps a lot!
Come to class and try to stay awake, but you will learn something. Will get out early and he loves to test on graphs. Always has a soccer story!
Classes are boring but if you pay attention you will make an A. Plus he's pretty hot.
This was one of the easiest classes I've taken at LSUS. If you have to take an Econ class, Econ 201 with Shaughnessy is the way to go!
Online class was too difficult. Can be arrogant at times, but overall a nice guy.
Good teacher, ugly subject. I like his examples. Seems to be a good soccer player.
Excellent teacher. Really trys to help students! He also can throw a great party!
He's a cool guy who doesn't care what grade you make (a good thing because he's laid back). He gives 2-6 bonus pts answers (out of subject) for upcoming tests during class. Understand concept to get an A. Definitely know the graphs. MC test ?'s R kinda tricky. There is short answers ?'s too.
Cool guy, boring subjects... He does his best to make class interesting but econ is just boring. Good soccer team mate though and a real nice guy.
This guy doesn't teach. Listen to your iPod the entire hour. But I like his sense of humor and taste in television.
He can be strange at times, but the class is easy esp if you attend the study sessions and remember to study the graphs because they weigh the same in grade as the multiple choice. Overall, I enjoyed his class--he attempted to make it fun.
Good teacher, very good study sessions but the exams are to hard. Dont get his jokes but overall a good class.

Good teacher. good looking too...
He is a pretty cool guy. If you just read the book you can go to Applebees instead of class though.
His class is so hard mainly because his tests are only 30 pts a wack...yup very hard. the only way to pass the quizes is to make a friend in class and form a pack and on one test you go first and give him the correct answers and vis versa for him...you will at least get those few 4-5 pts...which in the end really help.
Great professor, but the subject is very boring.
He sucks. This teacher is not helpful. He doesn't care if you pass or fail.
Very helpful! He goes out of his way to help his students with study sessions for tests, and answers all your questions. He is also very entertaining, and emphasises the key points in his lectures. If you have to take economics, he's your man! Best class I had all year!
Tim is the coolest teacher I've had so far. He knows the material and I honestly wished I could have taken him for 202, he needs to teach that!
Awful teacher....you won't understand him.
He's got a very boring subject to teach and he tries pretty hard to make it appealing to students. I found him to be extremely helpful. . . everything from online chats to extending his office hours. Take your quizzes!! Oh, and definitely learn your graphs. Attendance isn't mandatory but it's worth it go for the bonus and humor.
Tried my hardest and still did't help me out... Teachers should at least give you credit for trying.. He sure doesnt!
I hated the class and I got the fealing he doesn't care if you pass or fail. I would not recommend taking his class.
I had no interest in economics whatsoever before taking it under Dr. Shaughnessey. Personally, I found him to be very helpful and accessible through office hours and online chats before tests. The lectures along with the text and study guides should be enough to help you pass. The tests are hard but always relevant to what you have been taught.
Shaughnessy was great and his class was okay! My interest level of economics didnt raise much but the clas wasnt too bad!
He is a very arrogant and irritating man. I think he is self-conscious because of his short stature. I noticed students falling to sleep in class or not coming at all. He's cheesy, not funny. I made my first C in college in this class. Test are confusing and quizzes posted online often are difficult. I strongly suggest picking another teacher!
Overall he's a pretty good teacher...but the class was pretty boring to me....
Not very clear. I don't know about the other teachers that teach this subject, but he definately elaborates on analogies to the point that you quit understanding the basic concept. If you are thinking about this class... choose someone else.
His politics are very evident. His quizzes are a little difficult...I made a 100% on the first test but couldn't manage to get good grades on the quizzes. You have no time to study for them b/c he gives them following the lectures, so you have to absorb what he says immediately. Kept me awake. a bit opinionated, but at least he had an opinion!
The class was hard, but he is nice. You have to study for his tests or you won't do well. The quizzes aren't hard, if you pay attention during class. The tests are the worst part.
COME TO CLASS EVERYDAY TO TAKE THE QUIZZES!!! YOU MUST STUDY TO GET A B OR AN A... THE CLASS IS SOOO BORING JUST BECAUSE I DON'T GET ECONOMICS.. HE'S NICE AND HOT BUT TESTS ARE HARD! O AND DO NOT BUY THE BOOK I DID NOT LOOK INTO THAT THING ONCE YET!
Pretty easy. No tests in this class, just excel problems. They're not the easiest in the world, but not the hardest. I would take him again.
Go to class and take trhe quizzes. He won't help you at all gradewise, so apply yourself all semester. OK class, I'd rather another professor.
You take quizes everyday, which in my opinion isnt fair, becuase not everyone is going to understand EVERYTHING in the first lesson. Never did good on quizes or on tests. However on the day before finals, he did a last-day study with us which for the first time i was able to UNDERSTAND something from him and got a B on the final. take someone else
The powerpoint slides were very helpful. Go to class and study for the tests. I find Economics a hard subject to follow in general. Definitely take him over Coombs if you can, I had him for ECON201 and barely pulled a C.
Great guy, but what it comes down to is whether or not you "get" economics - if you do, you won't have a problem, if you don't, you might get frustrated by him. Personally I love economics so I loved the class and it was easy for me but I can see why other people would disagree. My only complaint is the daily quizzes. Are they really necessary?
The class wasn't as bad as I thought. There weren't any tests, just 7 assignments. The assignments were straight forward if you attended class. I rarely used my book. Would recommend this professor.
He is a smart ass but is helpful when needed. He must have been picked on in school or something from the way he acts sometimes.
He was a good professor overall. He makes it more interesting with his quirky jokes. I am sure he will pull this review up in class so this is my advice... Go to class everyday and study the material and graphs. He loves graphs!
I had Dr. Shaughnessy for 201 and thought he was such a good teacher that I waited to take 202 in the summer because he doesn't normally teach it. The course itself is harder than 201 but he's a good professor and is always willing to help you if you are confused about something. Attendance is not mandatory but is very beneficial.
he is a great professor! easy going but you really have to study at least 2 hours to have an A on his test
Awesome. He was very clear and cut through the clutter to make sure he focused on the most important things. Was helpful and his virtual classroom sessions helped me earn an A. Don't know if he's hot, but said I'd give him a chili pepper on a virtual classroom bc he's such a good teacher. Great teacher and really wants students to do well.
Great professor! Very funny guy and he made the subject interesting. He is also very helpful toward students.I would take him again if I could!
Easiest online class I've ever taken. Economics majors may want to take this in class to get more out of it. Only negative about this is the price of the book, about $200...
Pretty easy grader, however class is 100% online and no "true" lecture. Just a video review of powerpoint slides related to the chapter from the book manufacturer. You will have to learn and comprehend on your own from reading the book mostly. 14 chapters in 7 weeks. Easy weekly schedule with little homework etc.
Awesome professor. He's completely enthusiastic about the topic and doesn't lose any energy even when nobody is paying attention. Tests are well outlined and you should be able to make an A if you pay attention. The final is not comprehensive either which is a huge plus. Take him at all costs!
Great teacher, an asset to LSUS
This class was one of the easiest I have ever taken. Dr. Shaughnessy did his best to communicate the material clearly even to students who had no background in Economics. The class probably should have been more difficult and more informative, because, six months later, I'm not sure what I really retained, but the experience was very pleasant.
Fantastic professor. Enjoyable and accessible. Has weekly "office hours" online where he will walk you through examples. I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this professor. The course was tough, but he keeps you engaged. I botched a couple tests, but that was on me, not him. Tests were hard, but the material is covered adequately.
My favorite professor thus far. The content was challenging but he teaches it so well. There is a lot of busy work (2 chapters, 2 quizes, 1 self assesment and 1 test each week) but there is a nice variety in order to build your grade. He also holds an online study group to help if you get stuck. He offers to review your files if you need help
This was the best class that I have taken at LSUS. The instructor was very engaged and enthusiastic about the subject. Completing homework assignments and having them available in Excel or Gretl format during exams is essential to doing well. Be aware that grades are based upon % per exam/quiz, not by how many points earned during the term.
Simply put, he wants you to pass his class and learn the material and he makes every effort to do so. There are no surprises on the quizzes as it is directly from the material he teaches. He is a caring professor from whom you will learn much about microeconomics.
Great professor. He really cares for you and will answer any questions to help you pass.
I don't like this professor teaching style. I have taken other ECON classes and really enjoyed it. It was hard to follow professors lectures and very calculus heavy. I would email the professor if I had a question he would refer me to the book or powerpoint slide. He wasn't very helpful. wish another professor taught this class at LSUS.
I really liked that you could print your assessment beforehand and it was not timed. Although I found the assessments to be quite difficult, there are many other chances to bring up your grade if you don't do so well. He responds quickly to emails and is willing to help with questions. But he doesn't round up grades so be mindful! My 89.97 was a B
If you stay ahead of the game or on schedule with your assignments, you shouldn't have a problem in this class since the professor goes above and beyond with supplemental videos and assistance. Know how to use Excel.
Extremely difficult class w heavy focus on stats + calculus + some basic theory (but mostly heavy advanced math). Make sure to know Excel very well including : how to input functions, graph extensively, create functions using your graphs. Book reading is not necessary. Be sure to watch his videos and pay attention to practice problems.
Dr. Shaughnessy would answer emails and Zoom sessions with generic "I can't answer that" as it was on the test. It was ridiculous! Be ready to work your butt off to learn. Zoom sessions are a waste of time!
This class was difficult but he held 2x weekly zoom sessions and posted past zoom sessions to help out. Very algebra and calculus heavy - that part was hard but he was willing to show examples that were similar to help on assignments. Very responsive to emails and forum posts.
I received an A in this class, but it was by basically teaching myself. As stated in a previous rating by another student, the professor would answer emails and Zoom sessions with generic "I can't answer that" as it was on the test. Interaction in the group forum was also tenuous. Professor also came across a snarky and condescending at times.
Doesn't round or curve regardless of what he may say. Overall you can pass this class with about 10 hours/week put in but I would not rely too much on the professor for help. Make sure you verify how everything is graded overall, if you start off poorly its hard to get an A because its % per assignment not cumulative avg of points.
It was a lot to do, and very little time to do it in. There was nothing special about him or his class as far as I was concerned. It was a quite unmemorable experience.
the professor is clearly unprepared for this class make student very confused and is not clear in his explanation . the material is not that hard but the professor make it too hard also there is no curve in this class 89.92 is B.
Class was difficult but professor is always available to help. Lots of quizzes/tests help with the grade in the end if you pay attention and do well.
Extremely caring professor. Very helpful if asked questions and his videos are a must watch!
Great lecture and professor
Dr. S is a great professor. I made an A, but I attended his zoom sessions and contacted him through email when I had trouble. He is available to his students through Zoom (although very few students showed up, sometimes I was the only one) and email. I thought that he was caring and professional. I would take him again, but be ready to work!
Dr. S. is an excellent professor. Great course but take it by itself. Excel heavy. The exams are weighted very heavily 60% of grade and Excel/math problems with sufficient time but only if you are fast. Excellent experience. Worth the effort.
This professor is great. He does lectures and they are pretty much the material on the quizzes. It assists in learning the material. It does take some time but well worth it. The EOM assignments are intense and are worth a large portion of your grade.
The teacher is great, but the class is pretty tough. I spent many long hours every day on homework and tests. You get as much time as you need to do each thing, and it's all open note, but that doesn't make it easy. This is definitely the type of course that would benefit from being taken in person. But the teacher is engaged and really cares.
Excellent professor! He really puts in the time and effort to make sure you understand the material.
This is an intro class for graduate economics. All online and the class is over 7 weeks, each week is a lecture video (40min to 1hr) that follows along with a powerpoint, the a short quiz and an assessment, but the assessment is identical to a assignment he gives. The assignments aren't turned in, just prep for test.
This class isn't extremely difficult, however it is a ton of work. I took the accelerated course and it was constant work with not clear grading criteria. Stay on top of your work and you'll be totally fine. He posts two video lectures (roughly an hour a piece) per week and then has about 50 questions per lecture. The questions can be difficult.
Clear syllabus outlines consistent, predictable expectations. Coursework is significantly aided by an understanding of calculus and Microsoft Excel, but the professor explains these concepts quickly as well.
Provided tons of material but would evade additional questions for further help. Also what really stinks is that there is no rounding, you could have a 89.9 and you would get a B which has a DEEP impact on your GPA because an 89 is equivalent to an 80 at LSUS, so your GPA will drop. Also exams where all did poorly were not curved, which should be.
The course is not easy and requires a skewed amount of focus and dedication. If you do not have a fundamental understanding of calculus (functions) and excel you will struggle. The professor's material is well presented, but is watered down when compared to the exam difficulty level. All 100 for the daily assignments and still lost on exams.
His lectures were pretty good. I will admit that. He put a lot of work into them. However, he made this class harder than it had to be. So much information that just didn't have to be . You will work VERY hard in this class.
I learned so much and a lot of incredibly valuable information. However, I spent probably 15-20 hours a week studying for this class and doing assessments. It has been 10 years since college and the highest math I took was statistics in college. He launches straight into Calculus. One of the toughest classes I've ever taken.
At first i was as hesitant as anyone taking another ECON. However, the professor puts so much time and effort into his teaching materials that he wants you to succeed, rather than just passing. I got a very high B and so long as you take your time in doing each section, this class can be a breeze.
Took the 7 week course and there was 15 writing assignments ONLY. These were not easy assignment and were about 3 pages long on average. He is very tough grader. I barley scraped by with a passing grade. ALSO, if you don't site a source he will turn you in for plagiarism and he doesn't offer "turnitin" for you to check. Don't take this class!!!
Nice guy. Puts a lot of time into his video lectures, but get ready to teach yourself. End of week assessments take days to complete. One of hardest classes that I have ever taken. Lectures are great, but it is not what you are graded on. I put a lot of work into this class to get a C and put on academic probation. Would not take him again.
Offers multiple zoom sessions per week. Lectures are very well prepared. Assignments follow the lecture materials. Powerpoints are a little vague, take notes from the lectures.
recorded lectures are great and there is a weekly quiz. He gives the test questions and allows you to reference your notes, but I still struggled- the multiple choice answers were tricky. I took this as a fundamentals class to prepare me for Econ 705- would have liked to see and learn from what I missed but you can't see missed questions.
Course grade based on 2 weekly open video quizes, 1 open note self assessment and 1 proctored exam in which the questions are provided prior to the exam and the exam is open notes.
I would not take Shaughnessy again- his course was too heavy for me BUT that's not to say he's not a wonderful professor. I just thought this course would be less time intensive than it was. Get ready to put in at least 10 hrs/week. Provides every tool you need to succeed (vids, ppt, zoom), just plan to put in time.
Economics foundation course. Good teacher. A quiz, assignment, and exam each week. The quiz is to make sure you viewed the video. The assignment was not graded. However, the exam is taken directly from the assignment. Not proctored. I feel much more confident going into Econ 705 from what I learned in this course.
Econ500 consists of a lecture, quiz and an assignment (2.5 hr). The quizzes were relatively easy to follow and you can do it while you do the lecture. The exams require you to make assumptions based on limited knowledge. There's no feedback or comm, so you don't get to understand concepts you missed. Office hours are at 10:30 p.m. EST so useless.
I took the 7 week course online and enjoyed it for the most part. He grades pretty strictly on the written assignments (4 of them). About 2 hrs of video lecture per week, which are pretty cool, but a lot of the homework comes from the book, not the videos. No tests. Do ALL of the online homework, not just the graded assignments and you'll be fine.
Took him for ECON 701 online. Was good for an online class. You actually had to learn. He made quizzes off his recorded lectures that made me pay attention and take notes. There were 2 quizzes, 1 self-assessment, and 1 test each each. The test had a Saturday night deadline which sucked if you procrastinate. Learned a lot and was a good class.
Shoving a semester into 7 weeks is no easy job. This professor had done this a couple times. It was old news to him and it showed. Lots of graded quiz, self assessment and the exams. note.. he gives you the assignment that is similar to the assessment but the questions are tough. taking everything from the week before and adding .
Course will be hard without a strong foundation in math and/or econ. Dr. S clearly cares and puts a TON of effort into the course. Great lectures, lots of resources, etc. Tests are 100% based on an assignment given to you and are all open notes/open resources. Only complaint was the weekly structure, very end of week (Thr-Sat) heavy.
Dr. Shaughnessy provides participatory access through 2 zooms/wk, and provides video vignettes on the week's materials. Caring and responsive, relates concepts to everyday life, especially food analogies (Pizza and Coke) Casual, knowledgeable style makes him easy to listen to. 4 tests/week, work on this class most days of the week to get an A.
Tim is a great professor. He really takes the time to explain the concepts and I found the zoom meetings to be extremely helpful. Watch the lecture videos he posts! I found the video quizzes to be straightforward but the self-assessments kicked my butt. That was really the only part I struggled. You will work hard for a good grade in this course!
This class is only 7 weeks long if taken accelerated. You're only graded on 4 blog posts (just summarize and give your opinion) and about 30 Cengage assignments - some of which can be challenging if you don't really understand the material. His lectures are long sometimes but can be very helpful. There are no comprehensive tests in this class.
This professor knows what he's talking about and the lectures are explained well but leaves out most of the important facts needed to pass the quizes online, which are based off the online book. There is a lot of assignments and not a lot of time to do them. It is best to read the book then listen to lecture but that takes too long. Hard class.
He just doesn't cover the material well. He says all the information is in his slides but when you get to the weekly assessment, he has a few questions he never covered during the week. Office hours are pretty unimpressive as well. I think he is better suited to courses where student scan reference a textbook for areas that he misses.
I took this class as a refresher course before taking ECON 705. The course itself was not difficult. Each week there was a lecture, quiz, assignment, and test. The lectures were incredibly difficult to follow because the professor has scattered thoughts while talking. The transcripts of the lectures were horrible. I depended a lot on Khan Academy!
This was one of the most well structured classes I have taken in the MBA program. The professor puts together quality video lectures and plenty of resources to make a a good grade. He really cares and is available via weekly zoom sessions and quick to respond to emails. This course is test heavy, but all are open book and not too difficult.
Prof S is a good professor but this class would be nightmare for people with little to no economic background. His videos are an hour long with more general talk than course specific knowledge. Course is based off video quizes, self assessment and a EOM quiz which is a replica of your homework but there is no way to verify if you did it correctly.
Great lectures and resources to help with understanding of course material
This was one of my favorite professors ever! If you listen to all lectures and watch the supplemental videos, you should have no problem completing work. Each wk: 2 video quizzes, 1 assessment and test (both are "open notes") and test is only answering the assignment given each wk. EXCELLENT lectures and LOVED his class!
Before you take this class refresh your knowledge on calculus and graphing in excel. The quizzes are easy and straight forward. Weekly exam requires lots of math and there is no homework for you to assess understanding. Not able to get feedback from quizzes to know what was missed. I Do not recommend this professor.
Dr. Shaughnessy posts great lectures, there is 1 quiz, 1 end of module quiz, and 1 assignment with a test that is exactly the same questions as the assignment. This prof really does care about your learning and has weekly zoom meetings to answer any questions. Take notes from his lectures and zoom meeting as well as view his old zoom videos upload
Do NOT take this mans class unless you are up to date on your calculus and have a superior knowledge of Excel. You will not be taught these subjects in class.
Don't hesitate, take this course! So helpful for Econ 705. I just wish he taught Econ 705! Weekly lectures were so good and unfortunately set the standard very high so other professors are quite the letdown. Weekly assignment and quiz that is the questions from the assignment. Good foundation for future courses.
Run if yr not a self learner Lot of Calculous-Algebra The only way I passed his class is with a tutor- paid more for my tutor within the 7 weeks than I paid for the class -no joke. His lecture videos were all over the place. He does give you the test questions -will take you 3 hours to figure out.-2 video quizzes, 1 timed quiz, 1- end of week test
A lot of online assignments and bi-weekly writing assignments only. No tests. Provides video lectures. Doesnt grade very fast and didnt seem to be too involved in online class. But he gives you everything you need to get a good grade. Understand the subject and you will get an A if you try.
This professor has his own lectures that you should watch, and he uploads youtube videos for specific practice problems. He also offers two office hours every week, which are helpful if you need help. The assignments are exactly the same as the end of module assessment. So you have to do them. The average of two scores on the quizzes is annoying.
Grading is only based on 2 weekly assignments & they're tough. You've to teach yourself everything. I paid $800+ for tutoring help with excel & graphs. He grades tougher than an English professor. Grades very late, replies late & takes points off every little thing. It's hard to seek help from him. Avoid him if u can.
Prepare to teach yourself how to do the actual economic problems. He explains concepts well enough, but provided no thorough step by step process in solving the math problems. So if math (algebra, excel graphing, calculus) is not your strong suit be prepared to get tutoring for his EOM questions.
This was my 8th class of MBA and the best instructor yet. Dr Shaughnessy breaks down all reading into videos. 2 videos per week (about an hour each) with quizzes to go along with (you do the quizzes while watching videos.), 1 non-proctored test each week, and 1 proctored test. Grades are averages. He does talk fast but very informative.
This course is a combo of statistics, algebra and calculus coupled with excel. I took the Econ500 before taking this course thinking I will be ready but I barely survived. This course focused on technicalities that's good to know but It could have been better.
Out of all of my online classes - this was the worst. Too many videos to access to find minute detail. I was getting an A but did not like his style and his videos are not helpful as you have to listen and listen again to get the subject matter straight in your head. He is a terrible teacher - avoid at all costs.
Great professor, would take him for every course if possible. Very clear lectures.
He was a good teacher and had lots of resources available for you. You do have to watch the lecture videos to understand the concepts but he gives a study outline with a few question that you can work out and use on the test. The open note tests were a lifesaver and his zoom meetings being recorded were very helpful.
Professor Shaughnessy is exactly who I would want to learn this subject matter from. His knowledge in the realm of economics, and ability to convey complex subjects with ease is something that should be appreciated. He builds from the basics. That being said, this subject is by no means easy, and there is no shortage of graphing or calculus needed.
I have never met someone who can ramble about one topic for SO long. Everything you need to pass the class is posted online, textbook, video lectures, prezis, etc. He lectures in class on the exact same material that he has online yet attendance is mandatory... Sitting in his class for 3 hours a week is literally a waste of time.
Would not take again. Is not helpful. When asked to help provide information on a homework question or how to work out a problem he tells you to watch a video. Telling someone to watch a video is not teaching.
Do NOT take this class. It is a calculus class with little guidance. He makes the questions on the exams very tricky, as if the course is not challenging enough for non-economists. The material presented in weekly lecture videos do not always match what you see on the exams. The exams are way more detailed and scenario-based than the notes. AVOID
Professor knows his stuff for sure. Tests are tough but related to the homework. Heavy on Calculus/Excel so I did struggle. Don't think taking pre-courses would help (others did and struggled). This is on Microeconomics not Macroeconomics, so detailed information (not global teaching). Be prepared to REALLY study. He is available after hours.
BE PREPARED. Know Excel, algebra & calculus. ATTEND his Zoom hours. Grades are given for open book/lecture video quizzes & self-assessments. Both are deceitful because you will receive As. The Assignment IS the final Assessment; the material is NOT covered in his lectures. You learn how to graph with videos & cheat sheets. Get a tutor!
Weekly assessments have answer choices that confuse you, nothing to do with the assignment that it's based off of that you will spend hours working through in 48hrs. Very few grades each week. Already know fully developed economic concepts and how to apply them - if not, you will fail. Nothing prepared me for this class. STAY AWAY!
I'll start off with saying my Calculus skills are not stellar and I was tutored through the class. This class was HARD. However, Dr. Shaughnessy seems to care about his students knowledge and really knows his own field. Although econ won't be in my future, I learned a ton and ended up with a B, but that was after tutoring and klots of hard work.
Great lecturer, but challenging course. I put in 18 hours a week studying for this course. I gave it my all and came out with a B though. 4 weekly tests/quizzes which must be done by Tuesday (2x), Thursday (1x) and Saturday (1x). Lots of knowledge gained. Tricky tests & quiz questions. It was hard to balance with full time work and family.
Doing this class with a full-time job and additional class is not recommended. Doing this class without a good base of microeconomics is even less recommended. Easily the most difficult, tedious, and dare I say unnecessary amount of (home)work I've had in this program.
It's an MBA-level economics class. Remedial class was highly recommended if you need math refreshers (algebra, stats, some calculus). He's not an absent professor. He conducted a weekly Zoom class for Q&A before the exams. He is personable! HW almost mirrors the exams. Do the HW, attend the Zoom, and you'll do well. He's one of the best!
The PowerPoint contents are understandable. Homework and quizzes are very difficult. It seems his lecture contents and videos are at the undergraduate level, but quizzes or homework questions are at the PhD level. Since a lot of us are not business major, he could have made the course slightly easy to give a broader knowledge of economics.
There are a lot of complaints about the 701 class, but those people just need to realize that a degree is earned, unlike a lot of other things in life. Overall, this professor is very laid back. He does a great job teaching and understands the subject matter very clearly.
His lectures are really well put together, and he has a way with explaining the material in a very intuitive way. I am not a math person, but I do well with Excel so this class really wasn't that hard for me and I actually found myself enjoying it.
Prepare to have to teach yourself with an absent professor. His lecture videos are outdated, if you ask a question via email or skype call, he just refers you to his lecture videos or syllabus. There are quizzes/tests due every 3 days and his grading scale makes it hard to improve your grade if you did poorly on the end of the week test.
Shaughnessy is very knowledgeable and passionate about economics. This enthusiasm translates well into his lectures. That said, the course is rather difficult in both content and schedule. You have three assignments staggered throughout the week. End of week assignment and exam can go wrong quickly if your math does not lead to the correct dataset.
Great professor, I learned a lot. Dr. S has a way of making very complicated subjects easy to understand. He was very thorough and I would recommend him to anyone in the program.
Tough class, but good teacher who knows his stuff and how to explain it so we could understand.
If you don't have econ/math background, class can be challenging. Professor didn't answer questions specifically. Labor intensive class; may not be good fit for visual learner needing to see math problems solved. Though knowledgeable about economics, I wouldn't want him as a professor again as his teaching and my learning style don't match.
I really enjoyed this class but it is very challenging. You will be required to put in a lot of hours if you want to earn an A. The EOM are where most of your points will come from, which are open book and plenty of time but the study sheet is your golden ticket to doing well on it. I needed outside resources for class.
If you work and/or have a family or other life responsibilities, RUN. The layout of this class is absolutely insane. Quizzes are due every Tuesday based off lectures that are hours long with another assignment due on Thursdays and exams are due every Saturday- not Sundays like every other course in the program. I changed to another professor!!
His lectures do not prepare your for your assignments and the wording of the quiz questions are confusing. Youre able to follow along with the lecture videos while taking the quizzes or assignments which is great because if not, no one would pass. He does not go into enough explanation for random topics, especially the ones on bigger assignments.
Awesome professor, material was hard for me as I'm new to business stuff, but it was definitely fair. He is a passionate teacher and really cares about the material.
Great lectures. Lectures prepared you well for the exams.
Challenging course with a lot of work, but the professor explains concepts well. unstuck AI and other resources helped me stay on top of the workload.
