Very helpfun and nice
I did not like this teacher at all. He talked all class about stuff that never showed up on the test…which by the way I have no idea where he got his questions! He is a nice man who loves his job but unless you already have the passion you won’t like his class.
He is a good teacher and his tests are all multiple choice...if you take notes during his lectures and look over them you will do fine...
Mr. Silva is awesome. He has a way of teaching that makes you want to zone in and absorb some of his knowledge. He's always willing to pause for questions and explanations. Also, his tests follow his notes/lecture. After his class, each student is sure to have a better appreciation and understanding
Take this class toward the end of the day cause half the time he is never there so you can go home early.... but it really doesnt matter cause he doesnt use a roll
His test come straight from his notes and he usually does reviews for his test outside of class. He is a very helpful teacher and he has a great passion for art.
He explains the artwork to the best of his ability and keeps class interesting. Begins & ends class on time.
He is a really great Guy. I like him the most.He is the best teacher for sure!!!
Wonderful teacher! He makes things very easy to understand. He post study guides weeks in advance, so you have plenty of time to study. He gives two bonus points on each test and offers extra bonus points through various activities. The man is such a sweetheart. I would definitely recommend him at any level he teaches!
Easy class if you just listen. I rarely took notes and still passed the tests with an 'A'
Mr. Silva is amazing! He makes the class interesting. His tests are super as long as you print the study guide from blackboard. He is also very friendly and easy to talk to. Take his class if you can.
Mr. Silva is awesome! He gives 3 tests with 30 qts. and 2 bonuses. I just took notes on the art work he had on the SG and re-read over it usually the day of and passed with A's. Questions are not tricky just show up to class and you should have no problem making an A
This was an easy class. If you show up to class & take notes from his lectures (powerpoints with pictures & him talking) & study you should do fine. He give one bonus question on each test. There were 3 tests including the final exam & 2 bonus opportunities. The only thing I disliked was that the bonus papers are only worth 2 points. An ok class.
Art history is a class that could be very boring, but Silva makes it as interesting as it can be. He's funny and interesting and a nice guy. I liked going to his class.
One of the BEST teachers I've had. Made me consider changing my major. So great signed up for his next class next semester.
Silva is the sweetest man! He has stories about the artwork that makes it easy to remember! Only three 33 point tests, but there are two bonus questions on each test. He gives study guides. If you are conscious in class, you will do fine! He makes art history about as interesting as it can be! I would recommend him to anyone!
He is so sweet. Art History is definitely not anything I'm too interested in but, he made the class as enjoyable as it could be. There are only 3 test I would rather 4..but it's fine. Just pay attention and you'll do fine :)
All you have to do is go to class, take notes, and stay awake. He is very clear of what will be on the test.
"Ahhhhhh YESSS!" this guy is so awesome! He's crystal clear and has so many fun phrases like "what... does this remind you of?", "so what's that thing we're doing on Wednesday?" and "I have a friend..." all this in his awesome Steve Carell sounding voice. "Now where were we?...AHH YESSSS now I remember!" easy, clear and friendly. Makes class fun!
He is really pompous and long-winded, but this class is so easy it doesn't matter. He thinks he's really funny and he spends a lot of time waxing poetic about seemingly boring things, but again, easiest class ever.
Great teacher tells you exactly what you need to know, so that you'll come out with the best grade possible show up for class and your sure to get an A.
I went into his class not knowing what to expect. It was a summer session, so a lot of reading and getting to know the artists in a short period of time. He is willing to help, all you need to do is ask. He is the sort of instructor that is a pleasure to have and makes the course interesting as well makes you want to learn more.
Very interesting material and he presents it in a way that is both fun and inspirational. His tests can be difficult if you do not study, it is mandatory to do so. There is a paper but I learned a lot writing it, hey isn't that the reason we go to college? Overall it was a fun course, learned a lot, great teacher, and yes requires that I studied.
While attendance isn't mandatory, he makes comments here and there and gives alternative names that will be on the tests. Only 4 tests, no final. Doesn't post grades in moodle. Funny. Tries to keep the class interested. Doesn't like technology use. Pay attention and it's an easy BA
Dr. Silva knows his stuff and is great if you're REALLY into art history. If not, lectures are unbearably long and confusing. Doesn't post images and many aren't in the book, so sketch thumbnails of the pieces if you want to study. Makes tests arbitrarily difficult "because it's a 400-level class." Got through it but would not take again!
Art history seemed like a boring subject, but Silva made it enjoyable! He is quirky, but definitely knows his stuff. There are three tests total, and that's all. There are a few extra credit opportunities. I love his guy! Take him!
3 Tests 33 points each, gives opportunities for extra credit. Very interesting, knows his stuff. MC questions. If you miss his lectures it maybe hard to pass the class.
Take his class if you can. He is clear and honest. Pretty easy. The lecture always ended early. If you make flash cards (I did on chegg) then you'll do awesome. :)
You basically stare at pictures and memorize useless facts about them. His lecture performance isn't very entertaining, so it's easy to get bored. He doesn't make it clear at all what you should be studying for the test, and the material comes from his lectures, not the textbook, so of you miss a lecture, you will fail that part. Most boring class
Mr. Silva is very educated on the material he teaches. As long as you go to class, take notes, and study them and memorize the pictures from the textbook you will do fine. There are only 3 tests and class generally ends early. He also gives a study guide and he will not put the image on the test unless it is on the study guide.
He is an awesome teacher!!! Tests come from the study guides he provides. I fell in love with art more because of this class. He made it interesting and I would take him again for another class.
Mr. Silva is the highlight of my semester. I have taken him now for four semesters in a row and his classes are wonderful. For his upper levels, expect to write a research paper, though he gives you lots of opportunities to keep on track with writing it. Come to class, as he usually gives lots of details on the artworks you wont find on the SG.
The most boring lecture you will ever sit through, but if you don't go to class you won't pass. If you want to take a nap his voice will put you to sleep. Don't take him in the afternoon you will fall asleep.
Most boring lecture to sit through. He has 3 tests all semester and 1 bonus opportunity. Get some sticky notes and some coffee.
Doctor Silva is a great professor. If you decide to take Art 105/106 as your fine arts credit, take the course with him. There are days where class drags on; however, if you take good notes and review the art, you will find the class to be an easy A. He usually has a review day for the three exams of the course, which is nice focuses your study.
No matter what people say in regards to him, take him for this course. His voice may be boring, but this guy is pretty funny. Get some coffee before you go to class if you already feel sleepy. He gives three tests, and he offers extra credit. This class isn't hard as long and go to class, pay attention, and study.
Very good professor. He cares deeply about the subject and has a casual relationship with his students. Lectures can be boring. Attendance not mandatory, but I skipped many classes and struggled with material that wasn't in the book. I managed an A, but only due to EC paper and pop quizzes. Funny. Wish I had sat in the front of class.
Mr. Silva is such a fantastic professor! I highly suggest taking him. Although his lectures can be rather boring, he's an easy grader and a fair professor. If you put in the work and effort, he'll meet you in the middle.
People who say you have to go to class to pass don't realize that all of his notes are on quizlet. I used them, never opened the text book, went to class sporadically, and made an A. His lectures are dull but bearable. Also note, if you prefer to type your notes, you might want to find another professor because he has a zero technology policy.
Art history is a boring subject, but if you love it then you'll enjoy this class. The lectures were boring, but all you have to do is show take notes and study before the test.
I found the class very boring, but he was okay. He have a study guide of the arts you need to know about which was kind of helpful.
I hate this class. I only need this one art class for my major. It's so boring and it's based on three tests. I made a D on the first one and I'm smart. He doesn't post anything on moodle. You better be in class to get the test date and your grade.
Two words: Flash Cards! It's easy to make an A in this class even if you don't go to lecture.
He loves teaching at our seminary and his class is really enjoyable.
Mr. Silva was an amazing art professor. I am not an art major student but he loves to teach it. If I had to take another art class, I will definitely take ART 106 with him.
The class is very easy If you show up. He shows slides of works of art and describes something about it. You could honestly show up for the review day the day before a test and he goes over the works of art and what is special about them. Over all easy class if you study. He makes a boring class interesting. He does give bonus assignments.
Professor Tim's class was pretty easy. I'm not a art major, and I hate everything about art and the first test I made 31/30 I thought I was gonna fail it. He puts slides of pictures on the board and talks about them.
I took Mr. Silvia because he is rated very well on rate my professor but he is not easy at all. Not what I was expecting out of an elective class. Everyday all he did was lecture and it was so boring. Random pop quizzes. Your grade is 3 big test added together worth around 35 points each. Everything else is bonus. Would never take again.
He was an okay teacher. I'm not interested in art which most likely made the class tough. It was boring but if you study you will pass
He is a good professor and understands most of his students are just here for the art credit. Only 3 test - 33 questions each. Every test has bonus questions and he gives "pop quizzes" for bonus if there's not a lot of people in class. Offers bonus assignments at the end. You could honestly just go the class before the exam and get a C on the test.
This professor knows what he is talking about in lecture. He gives study review the class before tests which tells you everything you should focus on & study. Reading the book is needed for a deeper meaning of each painting/object/building. Going to class is needed, he gives pop quizzes randomly but they are always simple questions. TAKE THIS CLASS
Silva is an amazing Professor. Take this class seriously though. Do not slack. But thats more so the material. Not the teacher. Silva is the reason I became an Art History major.
You NEED to go to class. Some things that are on the test, are not in the textbook. So class is a must. Easy test though. You have to know the dates and the time periods for the test or else they are easy to fail. I made flashcards with the art info and matched it to the pics, really helped. and DO THE BONUS! Bonus got me to an A.
i started off in art history 105 and found him to be the new age dad friend type, basically he rocks vans is easy going and is a real gem of a teacher, if you take him youll want to take him again just to do it and be in his class.
I would drink an IPA with Silva any day of the week. But really, go to class. He will tell you it doesn't matter, but dear god go. Plus, he's funny and a great man.
I really enjoyed this class. I didn't really care about art at first, but now I really like it thanks to Timothy Silva. He's a great person and his class is very easy if you pay attention and go to class.
I really enjoyed this class. I didn't really care for Art History, but I like it thanks to Timothy Silva. His class is very easy if you pay attention and go to class. I would take his class again if I had the option too.
Here's a review for people who hate art history (like me). I hate art history, and the class was awful to sit in. Despite the painful lectures, he was funny and very nice. He always joked about the art which made the class more bearable. Also, attendance is rewarded because I received an A in the class, and I know I didn't do that well on the tests.
Mr. Silva was very entertaining to listen to this semester. He is very passionate about artwork throughout history and his class structure is very simple. Test were multiple choice and were based off the artwork from lecture. In order to pass, make sure you go to class & try to make a friend in the class.
He is soooooooo easy. Great Guy. Very Nice. Amusing lectures. All tests can be found somewhere online...... and that's most of the grade. Some quizzes here and there. Just make the class as much as possible. If you don't have a good excuse, just go. But I skipped my fair share. Still did fine.
Hes awesome! Make sure youre in class though, or youll fall behind.
I trusted the reviews on rate my professor but this class is too difficult for freshman level. Honestly, painful to sit through the lecture if you are so not interested in the material. Challenging to know what is important for every image. The bonus questions are from stuff you have never seen before. I have good grades, this class is just hard!
He was a good professor if you're interested in art. If not, the class is VERY boring and dreadful to sit through. You have to go to class to know whats going on, even though he doesn't take attendance. He made some jokes about the art which made class a little better, but it felt like you were in there for hours. DON'T USE YOUR PHONE/LAPTOP!!!
Great humor, really nice, interesting to listen to! Favorite professor so far!
Art 105 was a struggle for me. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT TYPE OF LEARNER YOU ARE!!!!!! The textbook helped me a lot with understanding the image. Silva is good with answering questions and making sure you understand. He does Pop quizzes and reviews all the images the class before the exam. DONT MISS CLASS
If you want to pass you would want to come to class . Lectures are very understanding. You only have 3 test there are pop quizzes but are very very easy there are multiple extra credit opportunities.
He plays a slideshow with a picture and gives information on the image, simple. If you have to miss class, get notes from someone in the class as his test generally come from his lectures, not the textbook! Bring textbook so you can see details on the images shown and so you can get the accurate image number in book and slides are from old textbook
honestly a super boring class, but an overall good professor. attendance doesn't count, but his tests are based off the lectures so it would be smart to show up for class. he was very funny and nice, but just a boring subject, not his fault.
Silva is one of the best teachers in the Art History Curriculum, I took him for survey and loved it, but I have to say taking an upper level class with him is 10x better! Survey is very easy, but the 300+ course is tougher, you have to memorize dates, names, info, titles- but memorization is not hard. Studying is here for a reason! 100% recommend.
He lectures every class and in great detail. There are only 3 exams, 33 questions each. He tries to make it interesting which I think he does a good job. Class was pretty easy in my opinion. The one downfall is he does not EVER put grades in moodle. He just tells you the last class what your grade is.
Engages the class with the material and gives super easy pop quizzes
He's a good professor. Only 3 tests and no final. Bonus opportunities are also there if you need them. He will sometimes ask test questions based on things he discussed in class so attendance is recommended. Easy A though.
Hes very passionate about the material, and engages the class with it. Hes one of the best professors Ive had so far. There are only 3 tests, with a lot of material to study for each one, but it gets easier once you know how the tests are formatted.
Mr. Silva was a good teacher, although his class was a little boring. Only graded material is the 3 tests he gives you. He gives you multiple opportunities for bonus so go to class to make sure you do not miss them. Usually ended class 15-20 minutes early and covers the material really well. Study for the tests and you should get an A or B.
This class is so boring, he will talk about a single painting for 15 minutes. There are only 3 test that are NOT easy. His test come from the lectures so the book will not help you. If you take this class I highly recommend that you record his lectures. Bonus is only given if you write a 3 page essay on an art show.
If you want to do well, go to class and make note of the things he says about each piece of art. He gives a study guide for the tests which is helpful! I made a B on my first test (I didn't study), D on my second (I didn't study), and A on my final (I studied the most for this one). His class challenged me as a student, but did not feel impossible!
Professor Silva is very passionate about art, which makes it easier to get through this class. Its easy to pass if you just take notes & study them. Some of his questions on test can be a little tricky so leaving yourself about a week before his test to study would be a good idea.
he doesnt teach with notes. its all lectures, hes very passionate about his job which is good but you HAVE to go to class to listen to his lectures so you can pass. he doesnt have powerpoints so you can study and learn from when your not in class which i personally dont like. you basically have to teach yourself. record the lectures
Silva is a great professor and cares about his teaching material. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you want to pass you have to go. His tests are lecture based. Not hard tests though, 3 per semester and 33 questions per test not including the bonus. I am taking him again for 106.
Dr. Silva is amazing! I took him for ART105 and will be taking him for 106!! You are graded by three 33 question-multiple choice tests, all having 2 - 3 bonus questions in addition. ALL other work is for BONUS!! His tests are easy if you study!! Write down what he says and make sure to at least be there for the review days!! TAKE HIM!!
I passed this class without even showing up. I searched quizlet for his notes and studied those to pass. Made atleast a 75 on every test !
Imagine having to go to class to receive a good grade??? Yall are out of this world. Go to class and take notes. Its a visual art history class so his slides are just images of the art. He talks slow enough to take good notes. 3 exams 33 questions each plenty of opportunity for bonus. There are pop quizzes but I say that lightly
Mr. Silva hates electronics! He requires pen and paper notes only. But aside from that, his lectures aren't normally boring (even though it is kind of a boring subject). He usually has pics he's actually taken of the art work, not just what is provided in the book. But pay attention to the artist, materials, dimensions, and years!!!
I took him for an online class. The image quizzes were extremely easy. You get two tries to take a 10 question quiz and if you get a question wrong, it gives immediate feedback. The only moderately difficult thing in his online class is the forum responses. Make sure you write a lot and explain everything; you will get a good grade if you do.
Show up to class, take basic notes on the slides he puts up, and you'll do fine. He's a genuinely nice guy who wants you to do well in his class. The only drawback is he doesn't allow laptops, so notes are all handwritten. Easy A if you do a bit of studying before tests. Great professor, would take again.
I have now taken both of Professor Silvas survey courses, and now his upper level course. He is a true credit to his chosen profession with the level of enthusiasm and knowledge that he expresses during his lectures. Aside from being an amazing professor, he truly cares for his students, and has an awesome sense of humor. Take this class!
Great professor!
This guy is awesome. He understands that we are in the middle of a pandemic, and that a lot of us in ART 105 aren't art majors, so he made sure the class was not too demanding. We were simply tasked with virtual weekly quizzes, and he gave thorough lectures that outlined all we needed to know. Complete your work and you will pass.
He was a great teacher and gave us heads up if there was any maintenance on Moodle or Cengage. He was also very encouraging!
The most boring class ever. This class is extremely lecture based which is usually fine, but his lectures are nearly impossible to sit through. I wouldnt recommend this class to my worst enemy.
He is the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. The test are impossible no matter how hard you study for them. He doesnt understand that not everyone is an art major, and even people in my class that were art majors still failed the test. Dont take this class!!!
Super nice teacher isn't good with technology so don't try to email him. super clear on what the test is on and what you need to know. Gives out study guides and extra credit. Easy class but can be boring, just take the notes and study and you'll pass. only grades are the test and there's only 3, and no final!
his lectures are extremely information heavy so do be prepared to take notes. i found it easier to take notes on my laptop so i could catch up with his talking speed. he will spend a decent chunk of time on things that are on the test, and his tests are visual aid heavy so you need to make sure you know your paintings/sculptures and artists.
By far my most... unique... professor. He's a simple guy really. Just likes art, and it shows. You HAVE to be ready to take a plethora of notes, I found this out the hard way, as his test are very heavy and sometimes uses information from the lecture that you thought was minutia. There is a good chance that his first test will knock you in the jaw.
As long as you pay attention in class and take good notes you'll be able to at least get a passing grade on his tests. However, his tests get harder as the year goes on, so while you can pass the first one without studying, I would recommend studying for the other two at least. He makes an effort to make the material interesting, which means a lot.
Silva gives very informational lectures on exactly whats needed for the exams. He prepares you for the exams with multiple study guides and time after class to speak to him. Hes got a sense of humor and clearly loves what he teaches which makes it easy to listen to. The tests arent hard if you study and go to class.
