Great Teacher! He is hilarious and really keeps your attention during class. His tests are relatively easy as long as you know the terms.

Sparkes is awesome. He's so cool and so nice. He rarely gives HW and if u take the notes he gives in class and review them for the tests, they are no prob. For a science elective I would highly recommend taking this class, especially if u despise science such as myself.

He is honestly amazing!Whats great about him is that hes ok with making fun of himself-he doesnt take himself too seriously! Really funny, approachable, not to mention expert on the topic. GREAT professor...he's funny and keeps the class interested in each topic. I highly recommend taking a class with him. The tests were all based off his lectures but he doesn't curve them. The test weren't too challenging just make sure you study the notes

Dr. Sparkes is my favorite professor of all times! I wasn't expecting much from bio 102, but this man knew how to keep a class interested. If you get the chance, take one of his classes. His exams are all concept,so it requires you to think rather than remember all the info you read in the book

A great prof! He knows his stuff and is willing to share it with you. He has a unique perspective on many topics in Biology and loves to debate them with the students. He expects a lot from you in terms of participation and comprehension but this should be easy to accomplish since he keeps thing interesting.

if you ever get a chance to take a class with him, then DO IT. dr. sparkes is the greatest teacher at DePaul, and he knows his stuff. he's hilarious, smart, and always willing to help. i love this guy. he's a great friend and he teaches, a great combo.

Ya, he's a cool guy. Talks really fast and writes sloppy, but overall not bad. Sometimes I felt lost, then took the test and got an A. Kinda lame material, but he makes it exciting. Take good notes, because the book wont help much come test time.

Dr. Sparkes is the KING of BIO 102.Seriously, he knows his stuff and presents it with passion. He will not bore with the powerpoint slides, but keep you active with the overhead. He's very humorous which makes his lectures enjoyable as well. The exams come straight out of notes, thus he saves you some time reading the book. Take him if you can..:)

Dr.Sparkes is a great professor. Come to class, take detailed notes, do all your lab assignments, and you should do well. Make sure that you study for tests if you're not that clear on topics; there are no curves in his class! The lecture on barnacles is the best of the class!

PROS: Sparkes is a very knowledgeable professor that is very passionate about the subject. He tries his best and will help you whenever you need it but he never tell you the answer best he wants you to figure it out on your own. I recommend taking him. if you have to take Bio 102, take him! Biology is not easy in any case, but he does present a clearer picture. His tests are multiple choice and are based on lecture. Didn't read the book at all, just take good notes!

He's a really nice guy and a good professor but he uses a lot of independent work. Not always the best for some students. I found his exams almost impossible, takes lots of studying if you want to pass. P.S. If you haven't taken calculus, some of the math is hard.

DrSparkes is a great teach in my opinion. Does not teach from the book at all, which can be a problem for some.But if you attend his lectures he writes the exams pretty much from that.Some of the questions are pretty tricky but it is not hard to do well in there.There are 2 exams and a final exam and all are multiple choice.works toward your future

Great professor and fun class! Very motivating. However, he does not use the book AT ALL, so the midterms and final exam are all from lecture. This can be a problem for some students (myself included) and I don't really like ecology and evolution, but you get the hang of it. Definitely take him!

Sparkes was such an awesome teacher! I loved his mixed accent and he is a really funny guy. He knows how to get the class interested. There is no need to read the textbook. He bases his tests on notes given in class, so be sure to attend. After taking his class, I was motivated to take up Biology as my major...and now I am! Definitely take him!!!

This guy is great! He absolutely loves biology. He has a tendency to graph everything but it relates to the subject all the time. His test are fairly easy if you can memorize the graphs and plots. This class was an absolute blast.

Sparkes is by far my favorite biology professor EVER! He does not use the book so if u show up to class u will do good in the class. He has a british accent but its easy to understand. Overall he take his bio classes, you will do good and actually understand the material.

Had him for summer class and was extremely clear and helpful. Easy A if you take diligent notes and pay attention in class. Group activities are involving and keeps the class exciting. No text book but read the articles he assigns. Study guides clear. Kind of hard grader but he offers extra credit and as long as you pay attention you'll do fine.

I just took my final exam, and after the exam I was sitting in the pit and Dr. Sparkes came over and talked to my friend and I. He's the ideal professor. Not only will I retain the information I learned this quarter, but I am also interested more in ecology and evolution because of Dr. Sparkes. He was helpful and explained things very well.

just take him. he talks a little bit fast, goes very fast on lectures but just ask him again, he'll repeat it for you. very intelligent and funny. bio is not easy. its usually not the professor, it's you. you don't only rely on the professor, you gotta keep reading and studying to get an A in this class, I got a B which was okay.

Amazing professor, made Bio 192 clear. He takes the time after class to go over concepts you didn't understand, you just have to ask him and he will be willing to assist you.

Ended up doing better in his class than I did in 191 (which had curve and lectures available online). Just go to class and take notes. He really does want you to succeed. Professor Timothy Sparkes is a really swell guy! At first, I was intimidated because he does not upload any of his powerpoint presentations and he spoke a bit too fast with an accent. However, his exams are quite easy if you attend lecture to take notes. Don't hesitate to ask clarifying questions because he will try his best to answer. 10/10

All of the testing material as well as lab is dependent on lecture so make sure to constantly write notes or get notes and worksheets from others All of the material is asked on the test, just know the lecture material inside and out and you'll do great.

Couldn't speak higher about Dr. Sparkes. Incredible teacher who will do everything he can to put you into a position to succeed. Sparkes biology class is a must-take. There is not as much content compared to other bio courses, which means you have to know the material inside and out to do well, but it really is not hard. Dr Sparkes teaching style is different at first especially if you are used to reading out of the textbook and having studyguides. It is very important to show up to class and take excellent notes because those and the handouts are what the tests are based off of. Dr Sparkes is funny and always available for questions, good professor.

Be sure to pay attention in class and take good notes. Review the in-class assignments as well. BIO 192 was honestly one of my favorites classes I have taken at DePaul. Bio is a hard class in general to take but this professor was super helpful and understanding!

Async so it was all lectures but compared to other BIO teachers lectures, Sparks' were engaging and he explained things super well with examples and opportunities to try it yourself. The quizzes can be difficult but his lectures set you up to do pretty well. No homework besides watching two 30min lectures each week and a quiz every other week

Sometimes it was a bit hard to understand what he was saying because he talks a bit fast. But he makes everything easy to understand and he allows time in class to do practice problems to help you prepare for the test, so he's helpful.

He is a good professor but you definitely need to attend his lectures and pay attention. You can tell he actually cares about his students and likes what he does. He makes the lectures more interesting by encouraging group discussion and providing practice test questions and examples. Tests are pretty straightforward if you understand the concepts.

Dr. Sparkes' lectures were really engaging and informative. He was very nice and easy to talk to. The exam material accurately portrayed the concepts we learned in lecture, and his grading was fair. I definitely recommend taking BIO 192 with Dr. Sparkes.

Dr. Sparkes co-taught with Dr. Shimada, where Sparkes would teach the 2nd portion (Ecology) of the course. Sparkes was super caring, respectful, easy to understand in his lectures. I felt extremely prepared for his portion of the Exam 2 and final exam, eventually getting an A- in the class because of his teaching.

Covered the second half of BIO192 about ecology. Very engaging teaching style to help you understand the material better. Tests are more application based, but pretty easy if you go to class and take notes. He doesn't post his lecture slides though. Go to class and SI sessions!

Class was lecture heavy with little to no resources besides SI. he doesn't upload slides so makes studying hard. take good notes. his tests are about application as well as vocab. i would recommend again.

A fantastic professor, he is very interactive and as long you attend his lecture your guranteed to pass with some studying outside. Overall easy course and he is very considerate of personal issues and he really strives to pass his whole class
