I took this class fall 2002 and i don't think he teaches it anymore, but he is a great professor. He knows math well and presents in an easy to understand way. If he is teaching your math class, take it!

by far one of the best math teachers i've ever had.

Had him for Intermediate Algebra and Calculus. Calc is hard, but he makes it a lot easier than other teachers would. Ta's are terrible though, not one word of English. But he is entertaining and very helpful. Great teacher!!!

I took his class couple semester ago, and if he's teaching your math class, take it. He's by far the best math teacher in UIC.

Excellent math teacher

The tests were alot harder than the quizzes and homework and the questions seemed to come out of nowhere, but otherwise he was really good at explaining the concepts in class.

Class: weekly quizzes, 3 exams and cumulative final. He is a good math teacher, genius person, knows what he is doing, and his brain is really good with computing numbers. His examples are what mainly appear on quizzes, but its always good to ask ur T.A. if u have questions.

Clear speaker/explainer and a very visible Math nut. My only complaint of him is that he goes too fast in class. So as the course material gets tougher you tend to get a little lost in class. A good TA can come in handy as the term draws to a close. His quizzes and tests aren't too bad but you still have to study well. Especially for the Tests.

Great at explaining concepts, but a serious teacher for the most part. Attending lectures help enormously with the material. All quizzes/homework was on MyMathLab..which he didn't seem to like all that much, but it made it easier to score well. Overall i liked his lecture style, and he's obviously a math genius.

he's kinda annoying but good at explaining concepts. the cirriculum is same as kafka's so don't think you'd be doing better in the other class.

Great instructor but covers chapters and sections extremely fast! My Mathlab is extremely time consuming but you also get to know the material well. Did not use the text too much since everything was based on My Mathlab. Overall, Doyle is very approachable and clearly explains the material but only downfall hes a cubs fan!

Easy Course (for me), I got avg. 98 of three exams. He knows how to explain the class very well. His exam is not hard if you know how to do the assignments. If you did not work on, you will fail, not only for his class, for any class you take.

His quizzes are unbelievably easy, but the tests(which he calls midterms) are impossible!!!! I got an A+ on all my quizzes before the first midterm, and I ended up getting a 69% on the midterm. His tests are ridiculous. He teaches well, but the material on the tests is more difficult than the quizzes and what we leaned in class. :'(

Quizzes are alright. just get the T.A zang. cant understand a word that comes out of his mouth but he pretty much tells you the answers for the quizzes. Anyway, the Tests for doyles math 121 class are hard. just need to study a lot. Courecompass Quizzes are a little hard however homework are easy. Just keep clicking "Help me Solve this Problem".

He's a decent teacher, but pretty blunt and cocky. The class avg. on the first exam was a 57 and later he said he'd replace our first exam grade with half of our final. He went back on his word in the end. I would've gotten an A if he did, but he pulled a pretty shady move and I got a B. The final average was a 62... No curve at all -.-

I had this professor last semester. A lot of people say that he's really hard but they are just lazy and probably didn't go to class. If you go, pay attention, and get extra help in MLC this class will be a breeze. But hey, were in college you need to put SOME effort into it.

The class is tough especially the probability stuff. He has a tendency to answer your question while your in the middle of asking ultimately resulting in him not answering your question, if you persist he will talk over you. A cocky guy, but not a bad teacher. Just study hard and be prepared his tests are difficult

After reading all those negative reviews about Prof. Doyle I was horrified to take this class. But I still took it and really liked the professor. He is very smart, knows what he teaches,and his tests and quizes are based on his lectures. Just go to every lecture, take notes,do homewok and you will definitely get good grades in his class.

Awesome professor, very interesting, loves what he does, and his explanations are very clear. I loved the class. If you want to get an A in his class, go to every lecture and do the homework. The book isn't necessary to read if you're 100% sure you know the material, but i suggest to look over the material before class.

I'm an English major. I HATE math. Doyle not only helped me understand the material, I actually enjoyed it. If I had more time and money, I'd consider minoring in mathematics. PLEASE TAKE HIM! He's more difficult than some other professors, but it helps you breeze through your final. AMAZING PROFESSOR.

Professor Doyle knows his math, but I think he expects his students to be math genuises. I curretly have a B in this class, but that's due to long study hours and tutoring. Overall he is a good professor, but expect to be challened in this class.

I am good at math so this class was easy for me. He is very good at explaining and does many examples in lecture. The book is almost unnecessary. Just make sure you attend lectures, do homework, and you should be fine.

Smart professor. Lectures are sometimes difficult to sit through but well worth it when it comes time to study for tests. Didn't use the textbook once, just the online homework website.

THE BEST PROFESSOR. Not only does he teach well, he also is willing to spend the extra time of his own to help you out. Will help you to raise your grade and go through the work you don't understand. Lectures are very important.

Doyle is definitely a good teacher. Yes his class is a little bit hard,because the pace is fast, but that's why you need to go to class and also the discussion. Don't miss any class. No need to buy a text book cause everything is online. He knows what he's teaching and he knows how to teach. I recommend taking him. You'll learn and get an A.

The material is presented in a relateable manner and is easy to comprehend. However, his exams are so long you will not finish them unless you are a master at what he is teaching. Of the questions I did answer on the exam, I got almost all of them correct, but the ones I couldn't finish in time ended up bringing my exam grades down to C's and D's.

genius. very clear in his explanations & no problem learning the material, homework& online quizzes at times take up to 4 hrs to complete, & in class quizzes are usually easy. the only problem is that his tests are extremely hard, 90% of class arent prepared for exams, exams are impossible compared to quizzes/hw, got a C, study REALLY hard 4 exams

funny professor. attend lectures and they will help a lot. very clear. attending discussions will help a lot. special assignments are pretty hard so start them ahead of time. study for the final especially that dropped my grade to an A.

Doyle is a funny professor and extremely great at what he does. He's approachable and will sit down with you until you understand the topic. A book isn't necessary since you'll probably be using MyMathLab. However, his exams are difficult because of the amount of problems you need to solve in little time.

he explains the material very well, and the exams are the same things as his study guides (just different #'s). However, it's hard to finish the exams...so practice timing yourself. There's a lot of homework(about 30 assignments) on mymathlab, 7 online quizzes, 6 in-class quizzes, and 3 exams.

I learned a lot from attending his lectures. He is a very smart person and knows what he's doing. He is very good at explaining the material. Homework and in-class quizzes were pretty easy. I had about a 95% before the first exam, then my grade dropped. The exams are HARD!!! He does not curve the exams, but he does curve our final class grade

Great teachers, knows his material. But you definitely need to work hard and attend his lectures. As long as you keep up and don't procrastinate or get lazy, you'll do just fine! I mean common, it's college...you need to work hard.

Brilliant teacher that explains really well. Exams are tough, but you should be fine if you attend lecture and keep up with everything. It will be a hard earned A if you have never taken calculus before.

He explains everything very fast, but extremely clear. He gets the message across the board. He's the type who writes on the board in multiple colors, so get used it to it. If he goes to fast for you, don't get discouraged, just join Math 122 for extra help and an extra credit hour like I did. He gets you to actually like math by the end of it.

Brillant Professor. Doyle's class is tough but he prepares you will for exams. he is kind of intimidating in class but if you go to his office hours he is really nice. take him if you really want to learn. if don't like challenges then avoid him

In high school i never really like math and i didn't do well in pre calc. But when i was in Professor Doyle's class, i enjoyed it. He is very disciplined and strict yet he prepares his students extremely well for the exams. He moves through lectures at a really high pace but is very clear. Try and take him if you can!

total professional. Math is my absolute worse subject and I really only passed because of the curve. Which he does at the very end. He is EXTREMELY quick paced but you can't say he didn't warn you (he says it all the time) but he knows what he is talking about and that is the reason why I enjoyed this class. Work hard if you're not good at math!

He is a good teacher. People who complain about him going to fast probably dont pay attention. Yes, it is not an easy A. But he goes at a good speed, his "tangents" are relevant to the problems. ALL THE EXAMS ARE THE SAME AS PRACTICE. the numbers are just changed and so is the wording. As long as you know the concepts on the practice you will be ok

You will learn everything you need to know from his lectures. The example problems in class are always the same problems, just different numbers, for the tests. What you earn is what you get, don't blow the 2nd test.

Really good at explaining. The only problem was the TA's explained it completely different. If you go to office hours hes helpful..although a bit scary. The final practice exams are nothing like the final exam so just study everything. The midterm exams were very similar to the practice ones.

HE IS GREAT. He explains everything so well. Cmon people this is calculus and business math its not going to be easy if you dont do your hw nor show up to class. I did my hw, went to class mostly every day and ask help if i needed it. He is an amazing math teacher! Take him!! just go to the math center that will help you a lot.

Professor Doyle was honestly one of the best teachers I've ever had. He does go fast, but if you take notes and write down the examples, you'll do fine. Attendance to lecture is not mandatory but if you skip just read the book. I barely opened the book but I still went to class and got an A in the class. Ask a lot of questions if you have them.

He is a very good professor. He explains things so well and although this class was a ll review, he reiterated why we needed to know these things for the next class. His pace is fast but if you can keep up with that then he is the teacher for you! He made it easy to transition from high school to college by being laid back and interesting in class!

An excellent professor. Make sure to attend his office hours- he gives away answers, helps with homework and gives you extra points after your midterms just because you came to his office hours. His midterms are hard and quizzes are easy- but make sure to turn in ALL homework on time and get 30/30 on all quizzes and you should get an A.

Great professor. However, I would like him to cover more examples during the lectures... I took advantage of his office hours and had no problems with any quizzes, exams, or the final! Make sure you do your work and you will get an A. I recommend this professor - he knows his math :)

This guy is great! He knows his stuff and he's an overall great person. He explains things in about two ways so if one method of solving a problem doesn't work, then another does. He's straight forward so you don't get lost in math. This is what you do, this is why, now here's about 4 different examples for practice. Great guy, take him if you can!

Professor was clear in explaining various topics. If he didn't like how the book (not required) explained the lesson, he would teach his method. Lectures tend to drag, however. Definitely recommend him

Tim knows his math, he is a good professor and person. He can be rude at times. He means well, though!

Provides good updates on upcoming tests, quizzes, etc. His quizzes are pretty easy, but the tests are really though and you have to study for them.

a class you'd enjoy going to. Doyle is very clear and goes step by step without any confusion. he welcomes questions during or after class. definitely makes class interesting quizzes are easy points as long as you know the grading criteria and go to class.

I am a business major who doesn't excel at advanced math, but he is super clear. I didn't end up with the grade that I want, because the tests are super tough. Stay up with the homework, you have unlimited chances. Quizzes aren't bad. I'm taking him again next semester for 125, and focusing on studying ALOT for the tests. Pretty fair though.

If you want a good grade for the class, you really have to show up for lectures. An undergrad student grades quizzes very harshly. 3 tests in total including the final. Quizzes are almost every week. Uses MyMathLab a lot - for homework and grade input. You can drop 2 quizzes, but no tests. HW actually counts - so don't skip it.

Professor Doyle is a very practical person and explains everything very clearly. He tells you what will be on the exams and what to expect. He is a great professor.

This is my second class with Doyle. At first he seems intimidating, but he actually isn't. His grading criteria is very clear- 600 points total. Two midterms 100pts each, a final 200 pts, homework 80 points total, quizzes (best 6 of 8) 120 pts total. His tests are tough, but as long as you you got to lecture and discussion you should be fine.

Easy A just make sure you do all your mathlab and take notes and attend lectures to understand concepts. Discussion sections are jokes and optional as far as I'm concerned.

He's blunt and intimidating but overall a good teacher. Discussions are optional so if you have a horrible TA don't bother showing up. Quizzes are super easy, tests are a little harder than quizzes but not by much. The final was okay, not easy but not ridiculously hard. Do all your mathlab and go to lecture!! This is my second time taking Prof Doyle. He's an amazing instructor. He does a really good job of reviewing for exams so make sure you go to the review lectures and take good notes.

He is a very straightforward professor. You just have to pay attention to all the things he says in class. I understood almost everything he threw at us. The TA was always able to answer my questions when I had any.

Best Math Professor I've ever had, really clear and has exceptional teaching skills. Sometimes can confuse you a bit if you're behind on material but if you visit his office hours and speak to him he will clarify. Study the homework and you will do well. The only problem with his class is his study guides don't correspond well to his exams.

Doyle! He's a great guy! It may not seem like that in lecture because he is relatively a bit strict but I highly recommend going to his office hours. He really takes the time to go through what you're having trouble with. I had him for MATH 125 which was a lot of tedious work, so office hours really helped. And pay attention in lecture for sure!!!!

I'm terrible at math but the way doyle teaches is straightforward. If I would have gone to every lecture and discussion I could have easily gotten a B or higher. He does quick math fast but at least you'll know what you're doing and what numbers you're using.

Hes a really nice guy. He genuinely cares for his students and works to make sure that the class understand the concepts. He will do what he can to help you. Definitely the best math professor at UIC in my opinion. The only way you can get on his bad side is if youre lazy.

Really good professor. Only 2 midterm exams and 1 Final. All three are relatively tough but if you show up to lectures and discussions, you will be fine. Also, do the homework.

I have taken Doyle twice. Both times, I have found the experience to be fantastic. He is an amazing lecturer -- very thorough, clear and confident. Initially you may be intimidated. Also, even now, I have problems keeping up with his examples, but whatever you do, do NOT skip class. I swear to you. Go to every class and lecture. Do homework.

If you take him for MATH 125 just attend the lectures (DO NOT GO TO THE TA CLASSES IT WILL CONFUSE YOU). He will tell you when to show up for the TA classes, because there is a quiz. The subject he teaches is hard, but will teach it the easiest way. Most of it can be done AND WILL BE SHOWN through the calculator too.

Prof Doyle is a great teacher who will make every effort to ensure you understand the content. He won't, however, hand out easy A's. If you're self motivated, the class really isn't that bad. If your major requires it but you "don't get math" - - you need to buckle up and fix your priorities to get that A.

Prof. Doyle is a great, intelligent, professor. He knows what he is talking about. His entire class is right to the point. His syllabus does not change. Amazing professor! Honestly homework is normal for a college class and you have unlimited attempts, and there is a help option. Hes good at his job, and hes entertaining. He's SUPER good at explaining the material. He doesn't use blackboard so make sure you show up to class. He is clear with his explanations but super fast. He often doesn't ask if we have questions and keeps going with his lesson, but you can raise your hand and ask a question or go up to him after class.

Doyle explains the material VERY well. Math is tough for me, but I got an "A" in 125 and a "B" in 165 with him. He is definitely cranky and can be rude. I tried to write at least one cons. But he is just peefect. I can't think of any cons of this class. Pros: super kind. Lecture is difficult than math 125. But I enjoyed the class and actually I did better this semester. Getting an A was because of his amazing help outside of class and his passion for teaching math to the students. Thanks Professor

Doyle is tough but he explains the material so well! His lectures are definitely worth going to and he really is passionate about the subject. I earned a C but that was bc I barely went to lectures which is my own fault. If I went to them I would have easily gotten an A or B.

Doyle is awesome. Some may think he's rude to students but I think he's funny. Just show up to class, sit in the first few rows because he does all his examples on the whiteboards, and PAY ATTENTION. Doyle always explains things really thoroughly and does many examples. If you dont get something in class, mymathlab will walk you through.

Im at my friends grad party, he went to DePaul I went to UIC, I asked him what was his hardest class in school, says business calc with Doyle, so he teaches at DePaul when hes not at UIC. This man is literally a human calculator, his calculation solving skills are done without any pauses. Hard material, good teacher, pay attention, do the work.

Took his Math 125 and 165 class. Love his personality! Overall quality guy. The course is definitely test heavy, so you need to be prepared for the midterm, and final. But as long as you go to the class, the discussions and ask questions when you're confused you'll do alright! Also, study based off the previous quizzes and practice tests.

I saw a lot of people leaving bad review on him. But I am on the opposite side. I study hard and reached him during office hours, earned great help from him and he easily explains math stuff. In his class, a lot of students just didn't study and blamed him for teaching this class hard. Its their fault..I studied consistently throughout class and A+
