Tim is an great teacher and funny to be in the class with, the only thing I found I didn't like about his classes were the tests - beware they are worded difficultly and deceivingly. Show up and study, study, study, and a good grade is easy

He is a great teacher with a good sense of humor. Basically in this class you just take notes as he lectures. That gets kind of boring after a while. But he is a super nice and helpful person.

He's a great prof! I laughed so much during class. The only annoying thing is that if you have a class of talkers, he lets people blurt out comments. Sometimes I wanted to tell them to shut up and let the guy teach! It's kindof the nature of the class. He is incredibly knowledgable about the subject and the class is interesting and applicable.

He is a really helpful guy. As long as you follow his study guide you will do fine on the tests. If you ask him to review your paper and make the suggested changes you will do fine on that too.

Hard class, good teacher. Be prepared to take a ton of notes. Study guides are crazy long but if you do them you will bo ok.

Nice guy, hard class. He gives out study guides but they are very long and extensive. I didn't read the chapters because they are like 30 pages each, I only used my notes and the study guide to study. I passed with (I think) around a B.

Awesome teacher!! Probably the best I've ever had at KVCC. Super knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly, not to mention hilarious too! Pay attention in class, write notes (like you should anyways!), don't skip class, and you'll be fine, also test-wise. He is NOT boring!! Take this teacher!

He is genuinely a nice guy. He has a great personaliy and makes the subject matter much more enjoyable. The test are not that difficult if you are somewhat smart and pay attention. If you know everything on the study guide you will do fine in his class.

Not a bad class to take. You do need to study and pay attention and you'll do fine. However you also need to stay on top of the class, miss to many classes and you could fall behind and not be able to catch up. Also the 7 page paper due at the end of the semester you should start early like he recommends.

There is a lot to study, but he gives you a study guide so that you're not surprised by anything on the exam. He is a very likable person and funny too! I highly recommend him.

Awesome teacher! You can tell he loves what he does and wants his students to love it too. Very funny, keeps you interested. I've never fallen asleep in his class even when I was dead tired. He lectures in a way that is easy to follow and he doesn't mind students asking questions either!

Awesome teacher. I'm a science major, and I didn't really want to take sociology, but he made it easy and interesting. He has a passion for teaching. He's also one of the more Christian teachers. He won't bring up controversial topics, which is, in my opinion, awesome.

Tim is an amazing Prof. He is very intelligent, great sense of humor and will answer any questions you have. Gives you a study guide before the exam and all questions come from it. He engages student in discussions instead of just standing in front of you rattling off a lecture. If you get a chance take one of his classes. You will have a blast!

Easy to get an A as long as you do and study the study guides. You don't even need to take very good notes. Just study the study guide for a few hours before each exam and youll get an A! Tests are easy if you study and very fair. He is a great instructor.

This particular class was pretty easy, but I attribute it to his teaching style. He shows you different ways to work out a problem or formula and helps you to see connections between them. I was there to learn so I really enjoyed his class. Homework assignments on WebAssign were super easy and convenient, and he's super lenient.

Basic Sociology class, could have been very boring but Tuinstra is a really funny guy. You do need the textbook for exams and a lot of things he covers in class are not in textbook, so attendance is slightly important. I never missed a class though because I looked forward to be there. Overall great class.

Made class so fun and interesting!

Mr. Tuinstra's teaching style is great. He really cares about his students and he wants you to do well and pass. He gives out study guides and tells you which information is from in class lectures and which to read in the book. The chapter review pages in the book are VERY helpful. Do and memorize the study guide and the exams are a breeze.

I have had him for two classes now and I would take another class with him any day. He really cares about his students and his lectures make class go by fast. There is some work involved to get an A but he tells you exactly what he expects of you. If you take notes in class and do the study guide it's an A from there.

Absolutely LOVED this class. He was funny and taught me so much and changed my perspective on a ton of things. He gave you every opportunity to do well on tests with his reviews. The final project also gives you a chance to work with something you're passionate about and I love that he does that.

Taking notes is definitely important because they all end up on tests. He gives out study guides which tell you exactly what you need to study. He's hilarious and entertaining and teaches the material in an enjoyable but informative way. I learned a lot in this course. You'll need the book for material that will be on tests, too.

His lectures usually don't end early. He typically takes the entire 1 hour and 20 minutes, but he is so funny and energetic that it goes by fast. There is nothing on the tests that aren't included on the review guides. He is one of those professors that you find yourself laughing and smiling a lot in his classes. He can be strict, but really nice.

I have taken Tim Tuinstra for many different courses that have been required for my major. I have enjoyed every class I have taken with him. He has a helpful attitude and a great sense of humor. It is very important that you make it to every class, and complete every study guide even though they aren't *required*

Super nice guy. Very funny and relaxed. However, you do have to work for your grade. Nothing out of the usual, but still matters. He hands out a study guide before each exam over the 4 chapters. If you know the study guide, you are set for the test. It just takes a while to know the study guide. Set time aside to Study!

Mr. Tuinstra has been teaching this course for many years and is incredibly knowledgable in his field. He makes the information enjoyable. However, the majority of the information on the test comes from the textbook instead of the lecture.

Wonderful professor. Funny and very interesting. Grade comes all from tests and papers but there are only 3 of each and 1 quiz. Grades papers very easily and the tests are difficult but as long as you follow the study guide he gives you will do fine.

The class is fairly easy. He has plenty of stories to tell which keeps the class interesting. The lectures are very important and so is the book. Make sure to do the study guide he gives for each exam and you will do fine. There is literally never any homework, so it makes it easy to stay caught up on the reading.

His classes are entertaining. He's a great teacher and knows his stuff. But make sure not to skip. The material he covers in class isn't located in the book and will show up on the test.

There are 3 papers for the class. I did all mine within 30 minutes. He gives a detailed sheet on how to do them and talks about them in class. Those are very easy. There is 1 quiz and 3 exams. The quiz is based off notes and the exams have a study guide. Do the study guide and you can get a 100% easy. Super understanding instructor. Works with you.

He honestly is such an awesome guy. He is very funny but you have to earn your grade! The tests aren't hard but the study guides contain a lot of info so you really have to know EVERYTHING for the test and only like 30% will show up on it. You will use the book since 50% of questions from the exams are from the textbook!

I took Tuinstra Winter 2017. He's a jokester and integrates it into his lecture to keep you awake. The entire class grade is based off, 4 tests (Including the final) and 3 papers. There's a chance for extra credit on the family tree paper, so take it, you just have to present. You have to read the textbook as well. Also, he loves diet mountain dew.

Great person. Always made class interesting and fun. The class always flew by. He is by far my favorite professor! As long as you do your work and put in effort you cannot get a bad grade. I would definitely recommend taking his class! Most of the grade was based off exams but he gives an in-depth study guide that almost an exact copy of the exam.

This man put in simple words is a wonderful person. He's caring and compassionate and, understands when life gets in the way. I laughed during every class at least once. Very funny and, would for sure recommend him. One of the best professors KVCC has to offer. Just study and use his study guide and you will be fine.

Tim is just a really nice guy, I don't think he frowned once the entire semester. The class is not hard, but if you skip class, you will miss out on stuff thats not in the book. There's an extra credit assignment at the end if you do a small presentation. The lectures are easy to take notes on and he always has funny anecdotes thrown in.

If you arent good at studying, you shouldnt take this class. Most of your grade is based off of tests, which are easy if you study the study guide. But if you dont you wont pass. Timothy Tuinstra is an amazing teacher. His classes are very lecture heavy, and there are not a lot of grades (mostly a couple of papers and tests), but I totally recommend it. He will always tell several personal stories during the lecture, which make it even more fun. Sometimes he gets on tangents, but it always has something to do with the topic

I really enjoyed Professor Tuinstra's lectures. He kept my attention and incorporated a lot of class participation. He tells a lot of applicable stories and is quite funny. The 3 mandatory papers weren't hard. He uses the chalk board and doesn't post any notes online, so you need to be in class in order to get all the notes and material.

Professor Tuinstra is an amazing professor! His instructions are very clear and as long as you follow them you should do fine on your papers and assignments. In order to pass the tests just watch the lectures and read the textbook. He is pretty strict about grammar and spelling within papers and assignments so be careful about that!

I came here to rate Mr. Tuinstra strictly because of how nice he is. I remember seeing him in the hall and him always smiling and saying hello years before I took a class from him. He puts in a lot of effort into his online course and he does a great job. I highly recommend him.

Pay attention and take notes on the assigned reading and all lectures, and you'll do great. He is so kind and makes this topic fun and easy to learn. Never before have I had a professor who cares as much as Tim, I wish I had been able to attend this class in person. He provides all the material you'll need. Not enough characters to describe him.

While there were quite a lot of assignments, they were honestly super easy. The hardest part about the class was the exams, because they were timed that could be a problem. Tim is a really great dad-joke kind of professor. I would definitely recommend taking his class.

Great teacher. You can tell that he's genuinely passionate about the subject matter (sociology, in my case), and as long as you put in the work, he'll be happy to work with you. Relatively easy and joyful class, though do be prepared to write semi-weekly responses to videos/class topics. Big thumbs up from me.

He's passionate, helpful, and an overall great professor. He gave out exam reviews that were very accurate to the exams, and as long as you read through the chapters and watched/attended lecture you would be fine. I liked how he would break up lectures with videos that went along with the content, also. I highly suggest taking his courses for soc.

I recommend taking his in person classes. I have taken different classes with him before & in person classes were much easier. Make sure you take good notes and participate. I also recommend communicating with your class. We all communicated together, study with each other outside class & passed easily. The study guide is the gold ticket to pass.

I thoroughly enjoy having Tim as my professor! He has funny but relevant stories and provides good insight to the world of sociology. He doesn't grade off of many things though. The study guides are extensive but they are the key to the exams. All questions asked are on the study guides he gives out a week before. So clear your schedule and study!

Professor Tuinstra was absolutely awesome. His lectures were super engaging and he told a lot of fun stories. Not many real assignments, largely test based, but he gives out a study guide. I went to 70% of the classes and spent maybe 15 minutes on each study guide and got 70-80 on all the exams. Great class.

Professor Tuinstra makes SOC102 engaging with fun stories. The study guides are key to acing the exams. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for prepping alongside the guides. A manageable class if you stay on top of the work.

He is great! His lectures are easy to follow and take the whole hour and a half. There is 1 test (I have a quizlet to prepare you if you can find it) he wont give you a study guide for the first test. After that, there are a few papers and 3 exams. Super easy! Super straight forward. Read the book and study and you will do great!

He has a good class set-up, clear and concise. He tells you what to write down in your notes and what is important for the exams. He hands out helpful study guides that outline where in the textbook needs to be studied, and also covers classroom material. He's funny and asks the class questions a lot which is engaging and helps it not be boring.

Pretty nice guy, has lots of funny stories too. Class was overall fun to attend. Understanding if you cant turn in a paper because you miss class (for good reason).
