Probably one of the easiest Probability and Stats teachers you could hope to find. He lets your bring a notecard with formulas on it to the tests! As long as you do your homework and study a few hours for each test, you'll do fine.
I struggle with math, but he definitely helped me a lot
I loved Math until I had this teacher. I had an A in CALC in high school but I drop to a C in Intermediate Algebra. That says something
Felt like everything was WAY over my head but he gives SOO MUCH partial credit. I should have failed the course but I made a HIGH A.
He reminds me of Michael J. Fox....lol. Great math teacher, wonderful personality for a math prof, and made the material seem not so hard.
He is one of the most interesting math professors i have ever had. He uses alot of sports examples though. He is really funny, and sometimes he sings.
Such a cute and adorable little man...he just has a tentency to ramble!

sometimes seems too smart for his own good... doctorate in engineering, so it was like he didn't know how to "dumb down" his speaking for us... funny guy, nice, sincere... but hard...
He is a great teacher. He is funny and really laid back (He finds it amusing if your cell goes off in class). Voice reminds me of the llama from Emperor's New Groove. Class goes by pretty fast. His tests are almost exactly like the practice tests. I would highly recommend this fellow!!
Love this teacher. He helps you understand. I never did well in math until i took him. DEFFINITELY RECOMMEND.

funny guy to say the least, but what a hard class. I don't know what everybody else has been saying, BUT he does not offer extra credit, speeds through the material and makes everything sound 100 times harder just because he can't explain it in "college terms" - AVOID
superb teacher. he is funny and keeps the material interesting. by the end of the semester, he knew every person in our class, not just names. some of the stuff is hard, but the practice tests are very helpful, saved my life. take him!
Was my absolute favorite class last year! Amazingly laid back and funny teacher! Practice tests are exactly like real ones only with the numbers changed! Made class so much fun. I found it easy, but always been good at math. But would definately recommend him for this class!! Plus he sings! What's better?
Dr. Van Voorhis is very intelligent about statistics, and he's a nice guy, but he's really not good at teaching.
great teacher. I had Xavier Retnam last semester and dropped his class. Van Voorhis is the opposite of Retnam. great teaching style. Perhaps my favorite part is the fact that he has a personality and is actually funny. He is not programmed and robotic like most math teachers...and he checks this too:-)
Dr. Van Voorhis is a good teacher for a boring class. I had him at 7:50 in the morning, and he never minded when i went to sleep. Pay attention in class; if you don't understand, tell him, and he'll help you. Do the homework, do the test reviews, and if you have a brain and any motivation at all, you will be fine. I made an A, and do not like math.
great guy with a genuine care for his students. good memory and prays at the beginning of each class. he has a great sense of humor. the class is hard especially with only 3 tests plus hw but work hard and do hw and the class will be great.
Dr. Van Voorhis is a very nice man, but is not helpful at ALL! I felt so frustrated leaving his class each week, not even understanding what was just taught...and I like math! All he does in class is read from power points, and fill in the blanks. No example problems, no worksheets, and it took forever for the hw to come back as well.
He is a very nice prof and you can go to him for help in his office, however he goes extremely fast!! but if you can keep up then i would say go for it. :) he also sings in class and is pretty good at it.
If math comes easy to you, he's your guy. However, if you struggle with math, i would recommend taking another professor. He is NOT helpful at all if you're struggling, he makes you feel kind of dumb if you have an issue with the homework. Highly encourage using the math tutors, he doesn't explain things well. He's a good guy who prays for students
Yeah, this class is a beast. You're gonna be screwed no matter who you take. You'll have to learn a lot of the material on your own. One suggestion: Go to the math lab that meets Mon, Tues, and Thurs in the science hall. That will help a lot.
This was one of the worst classes I have taken. Professor REFUSED to make questions or examples more clear and told students they would just have to figure it out on their own. Test reviews help a little bit, but the tests are entirely different. I went to three tutors and still only got a C in the class :-(
He is a neat guy. Loves his family-talks about his kids alot. Likes basketball. He speaks really quickly, so be prepared for that. I don't like math, and I don't really like the class, but I do like him as a person, he makes me laugh b/c his examples on the board are sometimes really random... He always prays for the class.
Love him! he makes class fun...tests/quizzed/homework are pretty easy...great prof
It's statistics, people, cold, hard statistics. Dr. Van Voorhis has a funny name, and a great personality. He goes fast and may not always be perfectly clear, but if you slow him down with a question, he will be glad to help you. He curves tests sometimes and talks to his students as equals.
Dr. Van Voorhis is a truly nice person, but not a very clear teacher. I had him last semester and again this semester and he's pretty much the same- you end up teaching yourself. He's a funny guy, tries to keep the class interesting, but doesn't know how to clearly explain mathematical concepts. Take him if you're comfortable with math already.
Probably my fav Prof this semester just b/c he is sooo funny!! He says the most random things sometimes! But, he's not a very clear teacher. I basically ended up teaching myself everything we did in class. He talks kind of fast and just isn't very clear at times. But he usually grades very fair and gives curves alot. Alot of on-line homework sets!
The beginning was all things that I had either had before or were easy to pick up on. The class material is tough near the end so the class isn't a breeze no matter who you take. Van Voorhis is a funny guy and keeps the room lively - he curves the tests and is a nice guy. I'd take him again. We did online hw which was mainly easy. Be ready 2 study
Dr. Van voorhis is amazing. I am a pretty decent math student so i didnt have too much trouble but i am so glad to have had dr. van voorhis as a professor. i loved him and he is really funny
The class is a little tough, but if you taking 201, then u must have a smart major, so maybe your in too deep :) He's a brilliant guy, and he's the type of guy that has no enemies. Very enjoyable class experience. He knows its boring, and uses humor to break the ice. One of Liberty's treasures.
Love this class, which is surprising, because I withdrew from Math 110 because I hate Math. Awesome prof, keeps things interesting with humor.
Horrible Teacher! I'm sorry but you have to teach yourself everything in this course!!! Be ready to visit the tutor just about 24/7! I got very annoyed with all of his stupid jokes...and of course his voice! I did not appreciate this class and i felt that my grade did not reflect my work in this course :( Made me very upset. I recommend you stay aw
(Took as intensive-Got a B) I sat on the front row, took notes&had a tutor- The course was difficult, but his teaching seemed unclear & most of the time I would reteach myself what I 'learned' in class that day. Also uses Ppt for notes which is TERRIBLE! Descriptions got jumbled and messy. He tries to keep it light though- A+ Guy, D+ Teacher.
Professor Vanvoorhis was a very interesting professor. If you are good at math I would suggest taking it with him. He is not as easy as Professor Moon but he does give you partial credit for attempting the test questions. He always takes a five minute break in the middle of class. He also gives reviews for the tests. He never uses the book so don't
ELE.STATS. Awesome class. I took it in a 4 week intensive and breezed through the material without having took the 100 level pre-req. As long as you pay attention to the lectures and then actually try on the homework you are golden. He gives partial credit on everything, so just put something down. Everything has to do with sports. Awesome!
Loved the class, and Van Voorhis is hilarious.
He is a very kind man who has a passion for what he teaches. He will definitely help you if you have trouble and you can do hw online over until you get all 100's. He is a joy to take and can be cheesy, but in a fun and sweet way. He also likes to actually get to know his students. He's sweet.
Good teacher, fairly easy mathzone assignments, worksheets, and practice tests.
I hated the class at first but as it progressed it wasnt to bad. He isnt that great of a teacher but is a nice guy who is there to help. He has a very weird sense of humor but compared to the rest of your options he isn't the worst pick. you will know that a log is a POWER, when you are done.
Nice man. I liked him, and I'm glad I had him because I don't think there's anyone better for stats @ LU, but I wasn't exactly crazy about his teaching style. It was understandable, but he could be a little messy in showing us the work.Overall, I would recommend him.Funny, not too much work, tests aren't horrible. Knew the entire class's names.
He is a very nice guy and gives moderately hard tests and assignments. He's a little disorganized at times and he rushes by things that some people might not fully understand, but overall he's pretty easy to follow most of the time. Recommended for stats.
I absolutely hated math before this class. Dr. Van Voorhis is hilarious, easy to understand, and genuinely cares about his students. What more could you ask for?
He is a funny little man. He is not very clear about the information in class, but he is willing to help if you email him questions. You need to study your notes for the class, I kind of taught myself some stuff. But he is the best alternative to the others.
great teacher sitting in class now. one thing that was nice in the middle of class he would take a break to get to know the class. Great professor but it will take work to get a good grade. He will scare you the first week to get rid of anyone who will not study.. (aka you must get a B or higher on the 1st test or he recommends you drop the class)
Formula for an A: Buy a TI-83, learn how to do everything in the course on the calculator.
I hate math and was dreading this class before I actually experienced it with Van Voorhis. He is helpful, understanding, and a pretty funny guy to boot. I would recommend him to anyone, especially non-math/science majors like myself.
This guy is great! Fun to be in class with. Goes through the material rather quickly, so extra-cirricular studying will be needed, but he is more than willing to help if you just ask. He loves sports and brings them into the lesson plan often. He takes time to get to know the students and genuinely takes interest in your life. Really nice guy.
what a sweet man. he starts every class with a devotion. and halfway through gives a 5 minute break to talk to the students. i do have to complain about his teaching style. he teaches math on powerpoint that is just slides and slides of words. this is college algebra... NOT ENGLISH. it was difficult to learn math via powerpoint.
Very sweet professor. A little difficult to understand math through powerpoint, which is how he teaches. But once you get the hang of it it works okay. He really cares about his students
He is a very funny little guy. He took time in the beginning of the semester to get to know everyone's names. He is passionate about what he teaches, however, he can be hard to understand. He may be helpful, but I did not need to ask him questions. He is lenient on the worksheets.
He is the man!
Great guy. Funny. Caring. Understands his students are not quite as passionate about math as he is. Easy going on homework. But teaches on slides if that doesn't fit your learning style. Amazing teacher though. I will most definitely take him again.
He's a great guy and really cares for the students. However, I found him hard to follow many times in class, as he was sometimes over my head. Teaches with powerpoints. This isn't a very "hands-on" class...you mainly just watch during class and then do homework online.
Van Voorhis is pretty entertaining as a math teacher, but he doesn't really get the job done too well. He teaches by powerpoint..underlines and writes a few things then goes on. If you want a teacher that gives examples to practice problems in class or at home DO NOT take this guy! It is strictly a powerpoint/webassign class.
I love this guy. He's hilarious, without trying, and it made the class fun. Learning off of powerpoint is somewhat awkward, but the course compass homework helps a lot, and then the test reviews always cleared everything up for me. I absolutely recommend him, it is so worth it.
Dr. Van Voorhis is entertaining and a pretty good teacher. I don't mind math or statistics and as long as you keep up with the homework, you should be fine. It's not too hard and he's willing to answer questions in class and help out.
Teaches off of powerpoint. He himself says don't buy the book. Just use the e-book and web-assign. Not to hard but probably should make some friends to study with.
Took math 121 in my freshman first semester. Buy the ebook, homework is once a week, 9 questions. Tests are easy if you've done the homework. He is not a boring person. You can't go wrong with him.
A very nice professor who really cares about his students. As long as you have an ebook you should be fine. He teaches off of powerpoints and will answer any questions that you have!
Great teacher, he makes the class go by fast and presents the information in a clear way. He also gives practice test before each test that a very helpful for studying. I would highly recommend him.
The class went by fast and he was funny. He spoke really quick, but for statistics the class wasn't too hard. There was a fair amount of work and you had to teach yourself some. I liked him. Good man of God. He did not sugarcoat anything and he was very real with us. He treated us like adults.
He is a very funny guy and very professional!! Love him so much!!!He alwasys gives practice test before the real test which is very similar. You will not regret to take his class!
Van Voorhis is a great guy and a good professor, but I couldn't follow the class at all. I was lost from week 2 and didn't catch up. He teaches so fast that if you're not good at understanding math, you'll struggle to comprehend what he's saying. Do the homework, buy a textbook with a formula sheet, and study the practice tests.
I recommend this professor, though he does teach at a fairly fast pace, he is quite clear and always willing to take some extra time to explain a difficult concept if necessary. He does not grade harshly, if you understand and demonstrate that you know the concept and how it's done and still get it wrong, he will still give you partial credit.
Class may be rather difficult but if you approach him for help, he does a great job of explaining things. Very laid back and friendly teacher, one of the few math professors I have actually liked.
As an honors class it isn't too bad. You just have to do 2 short projects and 1 kind of long project. Dr. Van Voorhis is great though- super energetic and he makes stats about as interesting as it can be.
VanVoorhis is a great guy. I am currently in his class right now. He keeps class entertained, but will ask students what specific questions they have, and will attack them right on the spot. He's very personal with his students, makes them feel comfortable enough to be able to come up to him about anything!
Van Voorhis is easily one of the best professors here at Liberty! Stats isn't always easy, but this guy makes it interesting and fun! 10 out of 10, would take again!
Dr. Van Voorhis is really great, but if you hate math or don't want to learn it then you might have a little trouble. He's really enthusiastic and makes the class fun, but he moves just a little on the fast side, so be prepared to keep up. He also gives out copies of the class notes to help everyone out. You'll enjoy the class if you take him.
He's an amazing teacher. I don't like math and still enjoyed his teaching
I found that Professor Van Voorhis did not explain things well at all. He often avoided questions that were long, and those were the questions the students needed the most help on.
Barely understands the material himself. He doesn't know how to teach and doesn't do any examples, which makes completing homework an impossible task.
Awesome professor. He gives clear lectures, is funny, and really knows how to keep the class interested. However, he does move really fast so, unless you can take handwriting notes, a laptop is useless. Pen and paper is best. There is a ton in this class, but that is through WebAssign. He is good about giving extensions though. He extended every 1
Dr Van Voorhis was AMAZING! He worked with me very generously while I was dealing with some illness in the family. His responses to email were super fast and so helpful! His comments on assignments and discussion board posts were really insightful and made me think. Very hard class. I spent more time on this class than I have on any other.
I'd rate Dr. VanVoorhis a 2.5 if I could. Not good enough to be above average and not good enough to be below average. His teaching style does not work for me at all and half the time nobody knows what he's talking about. He's the type of professor that makes tests designed to trick you, not to test what you know. Nice guy otherwise though.
Dr. Van Voohris is the worst professor I have ever have. In order to teach a math class, you should be required to understand the material yourself. Be prepared to figure it out on your own. And if you are like me and struggle in math, good luck! He is not helpful at all. I will never take another course with him again! Beware!
Awful! Do not take! He gives out on average over 100 question per week and most are 3 and 4 part questions. I had to teach myself everything. He makes quizzes and online homework due the same day you learn the material(which takes several hours to complete). I have not completed one homework set without crying at least once. Do not take.
He is an Amazing professor! He extended deadlines for the class just based off of if you started it or not! He is quick to answer emails and is extremely flexible! Please take your classes with this Professor!
I did not enjoy this class at all. I cried multiple times when trying to prepare for his tests. In hindsight, I would not have taken this class, however I was misguided by another student and now my grade took a hit. Prof said things like "I'm not sure how to teach you guys this (concept)" or used "obviously" when teaching new concepts.
He promised to drop 3 lowest quizzes grade but he didn't. Except that, his tests and quizzes are easy and predictable. He is always in his office and willing to help.
I was worried about Stats heading into this class, but Dr. Van Voorhis made this class much easier. He laid out how each problem can be solved with clarity and easy understanding, and he made the 1.25 hr lectures enjoyable with a slight intermission. He didn't cram in too much info a day, but still a lot, so be prepared to follow with the slides.
Van Voorhis is energetic and engaging, and I dont feel like I'll fall asleep in his class, that's for sure. He asks us for prayer requests too. But I was very overwhelmed by how FAST his lectures go, especially since I didn't take statistics in high school maybe? (I'm class of 2024.) I will probably have to get tutoring to be able to keep up.
Prof. Van Voorhis is one of the most energetic teachers at liberty. Hell make class interesting and funny by telling for basically no reason and also telling jokes. He also likes to talk sports so thats a plus. Its a hard class but he responds fast so its ok.
Dr. Van Voorhis is a really nice guy and he genuinely tries to make statistics interesting. I found that the further into the semester we got, the more outside effort I had to put in to understand what we were learning, but that is to be expected in any class. Weekly homework and quizzes allow for some wiggle room on the tests.
Tims is a funny guy, and he tries really hard to teach well. I learned mostly from the hw as it had examples and tabs to show how to do the question. He takes a break mid way through class which is nice and has a lot of passion which keeps everyone awake. Some people who rely on him to teach you everything may be disappointed but overall a good guy
Good professor. He responded fast and wanted to see you succeed. The class was somewhat easy online, that is if you are willing to put the time in to actually complete the assignments all the way. You'll have to work for the grade, but he'll help you get there. Email him, go into his office, whatever, he'll try his best to help you understand.
DILF. I would take classes with Dr. Van Voorhis every single day if I could. I went to his house on the weekend a few times on the weekends and he was very welcoming.
He kept the class entertaining and informative. I understand the subjects so much better than I did in high school. I appreciate the break in the middle of class to relax. My only criticism is that he grows through the information pretty fast.
Professor Van Voorhis was helpful and gave us notes so we had something to help us through homework. As a math class there is about 80% of your grade in exams so STUDY (he gave us study guides for every exam). Stats in general is a hard class. I wish the projects had clearer expectations. I found the projects HARD. Get help when you need it
Dr. Van Voorhis for Math 201 was awesome! I took this class in a previous semester with a different prof, and Van Voorhis was 10x better. He's very energetic and keeps class interesting. Very funny and really cares about his students. He gave lots of extra credit and goes over how to do homework in class. Definitely recommend!
Dr. Van Voorhis speaks well, is humorous, explains the material, and is available outside of class. I was looking at some other comments; no teacher should be expected to spoon-feed students information. College is supposed to be YOU putting in the work; the teacher doesn't do the work for you. 100/10 recommend Van Voorhis; take him if you can
Professor Van Voorhis is a very good professor. He grades well and always provides feedback for work.
Professor Voorhis is a funny guy. We have fun questions each class and likes to make jokes during the lectures. There is a solid amount of homework given but class time is used to complete it. He also can move quickly at times. Overall really fun.
If you are taking stats, you definitely want to take it with Van Voorhis. He gives out lots of extra credit, just for starting homework on time and not getting behind. He does tend to speed through information during lectures, but if you read the book and start the homework before class, it will make sense. 10/10 recommend.
Professor Timothy Van Voorhis was a good professor when it came to his character but when it came to his teaching methods I did not like it at all. He speeds through the entire lecture and it's hard to keep up. I would not recommend taking his class if you don't have a good foundation in Probs and Stats.
Overall I loved the class I had with him and enjoyed his teaching style very much. He was entertaining during lectures and had a passion for what he was teaching.
Van Voorhis is a very laid-back and easily approachable professor. But he hardly explains anything well, and it is easy to get lost. I got through the class by doing my own thing during class time and learning the concepts independently through the homework. He's not my favorite, but he could be worse, and it makes it better that he is laid back.
Professor Voorhis was hilarious and seemed to know what he taught. He's a math nerd, so very high energy and a stale (but funny) sense of humor. His homework's are insane, with 80-90 questions with 5-6 parts a piece each week! But if you submit it a week before, he gives you an insane amount of extra credit. If you get ahead, this class is easy.
Great and very caring professor. Don't be scared, the tests are usually much easier than the homework. Really cares about his students and asks fun get-to-know-you questions. He will go over the practice test and really makes sure you know what to expect.
He is so kind and very funny. He always breaks the class halfway to ask his random question of the day. He really cares about you and will answer any questions. He lets you bring an excel sheet to the tests. Stats was not a hard class as long as you do the homework.
Prof Van Voorhis was absolutely amazing! He was the first class I had on the first day of college as a freshman and he made the whole semester amazing. Wonderful to communicate with and cares about students. Funny and sympathetic towards students. I would take another class with him in a heartbeat!!!
Really liked Prof VanVoorhis, he can be tough to hear some times, but any questions asked he will answer. He is a very funny professor and his question of the day provided good breaks. His extra credit made homework great because you got extra points for doing it early. Overall just a great guy.
I really enjoyed this course. Class was simple and fun. The quizzes are always taken from the homework problem, and he will email you about which ones to practice. If you do the homework in advance as well, you'll receive extra credit. Some of the concepts can be harder in the last part of the year, but as along as you study you'll get an A.
Dr. Van Voorhis was very funny and made everyday class much more enjoyable. His lectures were clear, and his tests and homework were easy. He is not the best at answering questions but not bad by any means. Pretty solid proffesor
OH MY GOODNESS! I love Professor Van Voorhis. The course I took was Pre-calculus with him and he is HILARIOUS. He made class so enjoyable and the concepts were so much easier to understand because he is a very good teacher. Lenient on grading and gives curves on exams. Lots of homework but he will give you extra credit if you do it before 48 hours.
