Great teacher. explains clearly. test are easy since he gives us an example test like one week before original test. gives us time to be prepared for quizes/ test. helpful. always open to help.
If you're new with chem and need an easy prof, dont choose watt. he is helpful and he does give out worksheets and study guides but his tests are very difficult. he is not that clear in the class if you arent sitting right in front of him..he is soft-spoken and boring. made me dislike chemistry
His tests are really hard but he is a good teacher because he makes sense of chemistry. He gives lots of examples and practice tests which help but tests are hard.
nice but very timid. tests are hard. class techniques are geared towards older students. he marks off for the dumbest things w/ like -.2pts or -.4pts but they all add up...i want to learn WHILE receiving a good grade. in this class i learned a LOT but will end up walking away with a lowered GPA
his class is ridiculous. hes an awful teacher and he tries to trick you on the tests. the average test grades are Ds. DO NOT TAKE
watt is bored so he takes points off for human mistakes and probably spends endless hours making the test extra tricky. he answers your questions using scientific terms to make you feel dumber and leaves you more confused. If i were a *&%#$ chemistry genius, i would not be taking ch101, "dr watt"!
Great teacher..very clear..and understand...always open to help students..very nice and friendly..and easy teacher..he curves..and isnt hard in grading.
this guy was ridiculous. its like hes out to get you a bad grade. He purposly made the tests extra hard and took off for stupid little things like not having parentesis wbere it didnt matter. Once the class average test grade was a low D so he added on 3 extra bonus points to everyones. yea, THANKS! maybe he should have gotten the real hint....
Dr. Watt is not as horrible as people make it out to be. If you do not plan to put in the time into studying for chemistry yes, do not take Watt. However, he will definetly prepare you for CH102. He gives x-credit on hwk and accepts late work. He will give you wrksheets which are take home quizzes. He gives very detail notes. He seems arrogant and
A bit dry at times, but he has a great understanding of the subject and presents it well. I found the class to be challenging but not hard, if that makes any sense.
Weird sense of humor. He wears the same turtleneck sweater everyday.. even in the summer..i dont think i ever heard him laugh nor have i seen him smile. Tests are pretty hard.only managed to get a C and i studied my ass off.he gives example tests in the library which is only an idea of what his tests will look not exactly the same.
A fair teacher in a tough class, if you dont do your reading, you wont be succeeding. I mean come on, this is College Chem, The prof. can only help so much right?
This man is a modern genius. Sike, but he knows the stuff like the back of his hand and is perfectily ready, willing, and able to explain it to a student who gives a damn. I do believe however, that when hes not in class, he is cryogenically frozen.
Fair enough to pass a class with an A if you study his scribbling notes and may be work a tiny hard for his test! Short comment: soft speaker
horrible teacher. you cannot read his handwriting and he erases it quickly. his notes are worthless. he purposely tries to trick you on his tests. do not take. wears the same sweater/pants every day
I took both of his classes, 101 was harder than 102, but if you study you will do ok. He IS VERY HELPFUL, he is always in his office when you need him and always on time. I f you dont work hard you provably will think he is very hard but if you follow his notes and text book you will do good. Chemistry is not a easy science,he will prepare u good:)
notes dont help, exams really difficult, do not recomend his teaching method.
Prof is crazy, just keeps talking and doesn't explain right. Confuses people soo much. if you have a question he will answer you in a rude way. tests are extremely hard. doesn't curve
good professor. very helpful and smart. he has a very unique method of teaching. just do homework and you'll be fine. one of the best prof. I have ever had.
He s cooll.. he knows his stuff very well.. he s so good in explaining and s ready to clarify any doubtss.. great teacher but hard tests.. always gives u sample exams. he talks to himself so if u need eye contact with ur teacher he s not the one... easy to fall asleep in his calss if u sit like in the back.. hehe overall i like his teachingg.. i r
very straight-forward. if you take notes in class, you're sure to pass
He is great, the best if you don't like chemistry but need the class.
He is okay teacher but not great. Grades fair and is always there when need help. Cumulative test CH 101 are made by him. So if you have him as your prof in lec.and lab study very well!
CANNOT TEACH most of the time i could not hear him and i was sitting in the front of the class does not explain things well NOT HELPFUL i almost blew the lab up b/c he wouldnt teach me how to light the bunsen burner overall dont take him youll work hard but get nothing in return
He is the worst professor ever. He is also the hardest professor ever, do not take him. I hated his class, the most boring class ever. tests are extremly hard.
Took this class twice. Both times his lectures were verbatim of each other, very monotone and hard to follow, but has good understanding of material.
I loved this professor. Extremely knowledgeable about the subject, and fielded all questions with emphasis and clarity. Tricky exams, but if you prepare well you shouldn't have a problem. I'm going out of my way to take my next chemistry class w/ him.
does not drop lowest test score. no sense of fashion. whatever u do dont take him for lab, lecture is ok. his exams are not easy, but fair. his lectures are pretty dull, and his notes are not very helpful. he writes on the board a lot so be ready to take notes. he does accept homework late (very late) but takes off a couple points.
Gives good handouts which u can study from but his tests are extremely hard and he is a hard grader
He is a nice person, but his lecture is hard to follow since he always speaks in monotone. Also, it's hard to organize his lecture notes. He is not easy but not really hard, too.
These ratings are totally off. Watt is a great teacher. He commands a complete mastery of the subject, and fields questions better then any teacher Ive had. However, if you are not used to studying are 'working' in a real college level class, don't take him. In order to do well in chemistry, you have to work. Duh.
I personally know 6 people who are retaking ch102. This should give u a general gist of his class! goodluck!
He is a great professor. His notes are awesome. For exam, you just have to read the notes, do the recommended homework, and do the sample question in the book, and you'll be fine. HE;S REALLY FAIR IN GRADING; for example if your answer is incorrect but you show that you know how to solve the problem, you almost get the 2/3 of the credit. I had my 10

Yea take him if u have extra money laying around to retake the class. Even if u study ur butt of ur highest grade will be a D
If you haven't had chem in awhile, you should really take the ch100 review class before taking ch 101 with Watt. You hit the ground running and really need a chem foundation from the beginning if you want to do well in this class. I worked *really* hard for a B. You must read the book to really understand the concepts after Watt's lectures
WATT is great!!! I have taken him for chem 101 and if you know his way of teaching once, you will be good. Do the assigned hw for chem 101 but is not required for 102. You will love him!
You will learn a lot on his class, but be prepared to work. The tests aren't unfair, but they do cover a lot of material. His grading is very fair however, he gives partial credit for set-ups. His lectures can be dry and he can get kind of monotone, but he is overall a good professor.
He's ok I guess... Just a little monotone...
He is very smart. He always understand what your questions and give you the best answer.Of course you need to study hard to get an A. Do homework as extra credits, but not required.Highly recommended.
Horrible- he is the worst professor. He won reply to emails or help you at ALL! Don't take it with him unless you want to ruin your gpa. Save yourself and take it with someone nicer.
Prof. Watts is a very good professor. He is always willing to assist his students and has great understanding of chemistry. I recommend students to take him. However you really have to pay attention in class, attend class regularly and study on your own as well if you expect to do well.
Great professor, a little disconcerting that he treats hydrogen as a person, but extremely clear explanations, very generous grading, and super helpful-if you ask; if he sees you doing something completely wrong he won't stop you. always ask.
Love him
He's a great and very helpful professor!!! Highly recommended!!!!!!!!
He's awesome!!!! Take his class!!!!!!
Plain awesome. Couldn't be any more clear. Helpful and make sure you understand everything he teaches. A little sarcastic at times but still a Fun preofessor.
Dr. Watt is really helpful and has great notes; but the class itself is pretty challenging - you're going to have to really work at it. Then again, I did take it over summer - it might be easier during the real term.
He does not speak a word in class, all he does from the minute he walks into class is write non stop on the board! He will write about 10 pages of notes during a 45 min class... His test are very difficult, he does not do test reviews, very HARD GRADER! and when he does talk hes so monotone it sets u to sleep... Not my kind of Professor, do not rec
He doesn't explain that well and confuses you further more. He speaks very soft so be sure to sit in the front to hear him probably
He is a good professor. He is very clear on his explanations. He tries not to move on into his next subject without everyone understanding. His quizzes and tests are hard but not impossible if you practice and do what you are supposed to. Overall, I recommend him. He is great.
Hard to understand him As much attention as I gave it was useless. He assumes you know a lot of the material and that Chem is the only class you have so he gives so many worksheets, with specific deadlines, these can be useful at times but if you are taking more than one class it becomes frustrating trying to keep up with them I DONT recommend him.
Very nice teacher. Very clear on his topics. Thoroughly explains. Doesn't take attendance but his classes help trememdously. HW is extra credit. FYI, I took chem in high school so the class as a whole is easier to me.
Hard to understand, takes point off for everything, no curves at all
Dr.Watt is a very good professor. He knows the material really well. I had him for both CH101&CH102 and all I can say is as long as you do the homeworks and the worksheets and attend all lectures, you will be fine. Awesome professor!! Thanks Dr.Watt
He is very easy in lab and on the worksheets he passes out...there is one due every week. hw is extra credit and he is also very easy on that too. he is test are very hard especially the conceptual parts and multiple choice, he isnt badd but not that great either.
If you learn well in a listen and learn environment, then you will do well. He is intelligent in chemistry, and very thorough in his lectures. While some find him boring, that's probably because they find chemistry boring. I would recommend him. You'll learn a lot. Personally, I found no need to purchase the textbook.
His door is always open when he isn't teaching. he is very understandable and FAIR. i highly recommend him!!! especially if you take him for lab. lab will only boost your grade
If you take Dr. Watt for lab, you better come ready to write. As soon as he walks in he starts to write on the board non-stop. He is very thorough in his explanations and is always helpful if you have a question. He is very fair in his grading. He's not looking for fancy. Just answer all the questions and make sure your calculations are right.
He is not easy in lab. Just saying not easy. He takes alots of points in lab reports, I am not lazy I got 96 in lecture and I got A in final , if Ididnot,l will recive B becuase of him.
Dr. Watt is a good CHEM professor. His lectures are long and he teaches using a monotonic tone of voice. However, His lectures are very helpful. He explains everything in details and helps you a lot with material to prepare you for quizztest. Labs are tough. He is very picky, but you will learn a lot from him. Good professor overall!
Dr. Watt is probably the smartest person I have met so far. He can answer any chemistry question with a perfect and clear cut answer. BUT he is the toughest grader I have ever had in my life. I am a straight A student and I ended up getting a B with him. His tests aren't too bad. The lab is hard. Also be prepared to write 1000 pages of notes.
I had him for Chem 131 and lab, was a very difficult professor Never specifies what he is teaching, so you will definitely need the book to pass. He is Very soft spoken, so if you take his class sit in the front or you will zone out all the time. He gives study guides that are nothing like the exam, and they are always very difficult.
Not a lot of extra credit. Not the best teacher but not the worst, but is pretty close to being a bad professor. You need a study group in this class and you WILL have to read the textbook to pass. Try to get another professor if you can.
I took Dr Watt and he's ok. He is not organized and can be vague with some of the topics, especially for the tests. He gives a study guide, but the tests are harder than it. He's very "all over the place" with his lectures, but he's not a bad person himself. If you have a question, he'll answer it as best as he can, but don't expect a clear answer
Do yourself a favor and take a different professor. This one is not clear and is terrible at teaching the material. I do not feel prepared for my future chem classes, and I need to be prepared for organic chem since I am trying to get into medical school. If you're also trying to go med, then take someone else who can actually help you
Not a clear instructor. Needs to be more prepared for lecture. I was not satisfied with the way he teaches. I did manage to pass with a B, but thats only cause I read the book a lot. I learned more from the book than from him, so expect to do the same when you take him. Only a select few students actually understood the way he taught.
Dr Watt is not a bad person, but his teaching skills are just plain awful. He is very unorganized and I found myself falling half asleep in his class. He is very monotone with his lectures and don't expect to get an easy A in his class. His labs are ridiculous too. He takes off so many tedious points and will look for ways to take points off.
Really great professor! He's so kind and although his tests aren't the easiest, they are doable if you put in the effort. Study hard and you can definitely get an A! Will definitely miss him
Best professor ive ever had. Crystal clear in lecture. Notes on the board is all u need to know. Very humble. Knows just about e/t about gen chem. Takes off points, but minimally. Very fair grader. I understand gen chem 2 very well b/c of him. Pls take him if u want to learn. Yes hes monotone, but hes an awesome professor.
I had Dr. Watt for CHEM101/102. He is a good professor. Lectures get boring and his handwriting can be difficult to understand. He has reasonable office hours. His lecture exams are very fair, honestly not hard if you study right. He gives a study guide for each exam. In lab he is very helpful and a good lab instructor, he is straight forward
Terrible professor. He does not explain clearly, his lecture is not organized, his notes are too brief, he is a though grader, his exams are hard. Also, he gives you tons of hard homework to do. you should spend minimum 15 hours to do only his homework. His handwriting is not clear, so you don't get a feedback.
His teaching method is awful and you have to teach yourself. Be ready to put at least 12 hours only for lab assignments because they are heavy. Also, you have to do worksheets and textbook homework( This one only for extra credit that you will definitely need them). He could not manage his time so we had two exams and homework on the same day.
Really great professor! He is a little monotone but he makes chemistry really easy and his exams are identical to his practice exams which come with answers. He gives plenty of practice worksheets too so you can really do well in his class. Averages were always high and he's a really nice guy too.
Great professor. The class is only as hard as you make it. Do not be afraid to ask questions, He will take the time to make sure the clsss understands the material. Exams are parallel to the study guides he gives you. The
Professor Watt is a tough grader and he makes certain problems on his tests tricky (he calls it being observant). But I do recommend taking him if you are up for that challenge. He Teaches on a whiteboard and is always up for answering any questions you may have. He doesn't use blackboard at all. Main grades are tests and worksheets (no quizzes).
As much as he gives extra credit (12 pts if you do all homework), he is a tough grader. The exam replica he gives to study with does not prepare you for the exam itself. He has a monotonous voice and can put you to sleep if you are not paying attention. Most of what I learnt in the class was self thought. He is nice and lenient if you're absent.
Professor Watt is a very straightforward teacher. You will have 4 hourly exams, plenty of practice worksheets (which you can take home), homework problems are optional but highly encouraged, no quizzes, and a cumulative ACS final. The lectures are all about the notes on whiteboard. The tests go hand to hand with with the worksheets and exam reviews
A solid choice for Chem 132. Very straighforward and caring. But the lectures are a little boring, and a tough grader
I took Chem 2 with Dr. Watt over the summer and hes better than the chem professors at my university. The tests are based of his lecture notes, which he explains really well. The multiple choice is tricky, but the class is very doable with his teaching. The homework is extra credit too. 10/10 would recommend!!!
I hate chem but took 131 and 132 with Dr. Watt and actually enjoyed it. There are no slides so you have to go to class. If you pay attention and do the hw, which is extra credit you should be fine. He doesn't throw any surprises at you. Overall great professor!!
If chemistry is a weakness for you, please avoid this professor. His lectures are not very clear, he doesn't use blackboard at all so if you miss class, you're screwed. The tests are the main thing in this class, as well as lab so try to do well on those and you'll do ok. This class is extremely hard so try to put this at the top of your priorities
You can tell Dr. Watt has been teaching for a long time. He is always well prepared, uses time extremely effectively and explains things in great detail and always answers questions. He goes over the right material and clearly explains what to expect on tests. If you fail this class it is your fault.
Please don't take this professor. If you see his name on the registration page please shut down your computer and open it back then take somebody else. He will make chemistry complex. I used to love chemistry but with him NO NO............. 100% not recommended.
Professor Watt is a nice and educated professor. He knows the material he is teaching and does so efficiently and in a way that can be understood. He's always open to answering questions for clarification. You must come to class for the lecture notes. As long as you pay attention and stay on task, you will pass.
I wish Dr. Watt taught more than chemistry. He is a visual professor so that's why he doesn't use BB. Instead of talking through slides, he writes everything down on the board and asks the students to help him out. As a student, it helped me a lot. Chem isn't an easy subject, but if you go to lectures and *do the practice problems* you'll excel.
Eh, he is an average teacher. He doesn't use black board for documents or to display grades. No PowerPoints for notes. everything is written on the white board so if you miss something hopefully you have a friendly neighbor in the class.
Dr. Watt is a nice and knowledgeable person, but not a great professor. He's very soft-spoken, disorganized, and rarely posts on Blackboard. Take advantage of his sample exams and worksheets, which are helpful for studying. He could care less about students' grades, so don't be surprised if you end up with a much lower final grade than expected!
Unfortunately I am taking him next semester. He is not the best professor and he is very heavy on exams. His homework problems that he assigns do not help and it's just busy work at this point. The worksheets are okay, but overall not that great of a professor. A picky grader, and wants you to give a detailed response to free response questions
Dr Watt is a kind professor with a simple class structure. He goes through lecture material and there will be a worksheet each week for review. 4 major exams (similar to worksheets) and a cumulative department final. He was helpful during office hours, but I gained very little from the lecture/was not very engaging. HW is extra credit. Soft-spoken.
Very harsh when grading the papers he assigns. Takes off point for every minor error. Do not take this professor.
He does give a lot notes so be prepared. He gives practice exams which are so help full. There are practice problem which you can turn in for extra credit.
He never updates the grade on blackboard so it's hard to keep track of.
Dr. Watt was a great professor. He gives lots of notes, but the examples are relevant to the weekly worksheets. He's a pretty fair grader- he gives you partial credit if you set a problem up correctly, but miscalculate the answer. He does not update grades on Blackboard often, but he grades and gives back assignments within a couple days.
Professor Watt is so nice, and humble. If you have a heavy schedule, I would recommend not to register this class. He writes all the notes and lecture stuff on the whiteboard and you have to write all of them down. His lab is easier than his lecture. He gives previous exam copies which help for main lecture exams. Chem 132 is a tough course.
Professor Watt is an amazing teacher, he is very caring and willing to help students that are struggling. Chem 132 is a hard class, but he explains things clearly, you just have to put in the effort. He gives take-home quizzes and as long as you take good notes in class then you should be able to get and easy A on all your quizzes.
I personally feel that Professor Watt deserves a 4/5 on this page. I get it. He maybe unclear at times but as long as you ask questions he will answer them. From what I've seen, his lectures are full of helpful content and it's pretty clear. Get better at taking more precise notes and study before the tests. Unweighted points may be a challenge.
Don't take this professor if you are good/bad at chemistry. He uses no visual aids + class consists of him overcomplicating topics/talking in circles, leaving you more confused than necessary. There are weekly worksheets + HW w/ 20+ questions due before exams. Most people stopped showing up after realizing you'll fail listening to him explain.
Tbh his lectures can be confusing since there's no power points. But he knows what he's teaching unlike some professors I've taken so far. If you don't understand him clearly, I suggest you to go to his office hours, he is very caring and sweet. He will help you with anything you struggle with. Also the assignments are for extra credits and helpful
Chem 132 with Professor Watt can be challenging, but his sample exams and worksheets are super helpful for studying. I found unstuckstudy and the class notes to be the keys to success. Stay engaged, and you can get a solid grade despite the strict grading.
Lectures are incredibly hard to follow if you aren't already familiar with the material, you will be teaching yourself. His teaching style of writing on his whiteboard is very disorganized. Very tough grader, grading criteria all over the place (takes off decimals?) I would not recommend as a professor for anyone.
The most disorganized and confusing lectures I have ever attended, you will not learn anything. his teaching style is horrible, do not take this professor! I cannot stand chemistry anymore.
Doable class if you give it time. Not great lectures since his handwriting is hard to read and he speaks quietly. Lets you turn in assignments any time of the year so thats a W. Overall pretty chill guy though he may seem intimidating at first. You probably have to teach yourself a lot but that's most classes.
The lectures are incredibly boring, and the handwriting is awful and borderline illegible. Don't take this class unless you are a chemistry god, and even then, just find someone else who can actually teach.
