Nice lady, but the lab is just plain boring, what we do in lab and what she is having us do dont seem to match up at all. Pointless busy work.
awesome teacher. explains things very clearly. exams are straight from notes. print out power point presentations, take notes and complete exam review and its an easy A. one of the best classes ive ever taken.
TINA IS A GREAT INSTRUCTOR...SHE WOULD DO ANYTHING IN THE WORLD FOR YOU...SHE WILL HELP YOU IF THERE IS SOMETHING YO DO NOT UNDERSTAND...AND SHE IS AN ALL AROUND GREAT GAL.
AWESOME! Take her if it is at all possible. She teaches what you need to know and gives out a review for the test. She doesn't weigh you down with crap you won't need for the test.
Very easy, not in class very long. Tests a little hard but she makes up for it.
Tina is great! She tells you exactly what you need to know and gives you a great test review. I have always had so much trouble with science but I am actually enjoying her class. She is very helpful at answering questions and lets you have access to her powerpoint presentations to help you take notes. Taker her!
She is very funny, interesting, and understanding. I enjoyed her lectures very much. Very helpful
She is a wonderful instructor. No worries about this class, and I HATE sciece. Just come to class, get the notes, and know the study guides for the test. Since she is younger, she'll have a lot of sympathy for college students because her college experience isn't far behind her. Older professors could learn a lot from how she teaches.
Great overrall teacher, helpful, very clear in what shes looking for in assignments, make sure you study for the lab quizzes each week, but great teacher...
Tina is an amazingly easy teacher. She is funny and cool. Her tests are super easy and she really makes sure you know what you are doing. And she is a hottie. If you have to take Bio121, take your lab with Tina Tamme, it is a guarenteed A if you show up and do the work.
Good looking teacher. this was a pretty easy class. Just show up and turn stuff in. Studying for tests are easy because of the study guides. get to throw one test grade out and one test was take home.
My first time taking BIO I had a crappy nonenglish speaking teacher, and then I heard about Tina, she is very clear with her teaching and explains everything. She is like in her mid 20s and so she understands what we may not understand from her, very helpful and exciting, take her if you get the chance!!!
Ive had Tina for a few labs and she is by far the best instructer, so get in her class if at all possible. Plus she is pretty hot!
Tina is an excellent teacher and from what I have observed an awesome person. She is cute (but married) as well, but that should not distract from the fact that I learned a whole lot about a subject that I have very little aptitude for. She is helpful, intelligent, and a wonderful teacher.
Super helpful with everything, really easy to talk to for anything. Makes the class very understandable. The quizzes are all really really easy all you have to do is really show up. She drops your lowest test grade and the papers for the class are easy! definitly take her class!!
She is awesome. Biology is boring but her lab section is really interesting most of the time. Take her if you can.
Tina is an excellent biology instructor. All a student needs to do to succeed is show up, pay attention and study.
Ms. Hopper is a reallly sweet girl. She is very helpful if you don't understand something, and will do whatever she cans to help you. There is a quiz before every class, so you will have to study. Sign up for her lab if possible!!!!
Extremely patient and understanding. If you need a lab section for Bio 122 or Genetics, I would highly recommend Tina. You WILL have to study for the quizzes/tests if you want to get a good grade, so for the lazy people that want to get something for nothing, suck it up and study, or find another lab section to take.
In the rating below, I meant to give her a "5" for helpfulness, not a "1". Please edit that rating if its possible.
Tina was a great teacher. She made a mandatory subject very interesting. She was always willing to answer questions. Highly recommend her for any subject matter. She is even helping me with other classes at a different school. Great teacher!
She explains things very well and her tests/quizzes are a little on the easy side. Her lab section was my favorite class thus far in college. Take her if you can!
She is absolutely amazing! I really did not look forward to taking this class but she has made it fun and interesting. Since it is a difficult subject to begin with, she offers lots of extra credit throughout the semester. They are mainly small essays that you read and answer a few questions about. They add points to your exams. Take her!
I am horrible when it comes to molecular/cellular biology, so I was dreading not only the class, but the lab. Fortunately, she made the lab fun and she is very easy to learn from. If possible I would take her for every Bio lab I have until I graduate.
She is the lab instructor for this course. She was very nice and the lab material was interesting. I actually looked forward to my early morning lab if that says anything!
I took her evening class and she was AMAZING. I was dreading this class but she makes it fun. It was a 4 hour long class once a week and I enjoyed every minute of it! Do the extra credit she offers you!! Best general education class I have taken here and its all because of her! If you hate science but need to take a gen ed with lab- take her.
Really enjoyed this Biology class, and would definitely take again if needed. Dr. Hopper is a great teacher, too!
Great professor. She makes the material really easy to understand.
I went to every lecture, & as a result it was an easy class. The tests weren't super hard, but i definitely had to study. She's super nice, & you can tell she really knows what she' s talking about! She moves pretty quick sometimes but I didn't have much trouble at all.
Hopper really know Biology inside and out. Goes through power-points all class period. Has a few assignments online otherwise at least 5 exams. The subject matter starts hard then gets easy. But test are hard and tricky. be sure to study. She gives extra points for attendance but only takes it once a week unexpectedly. 185 in class so gets warm.
She's amazing! I made A's on all her tests because she says over and over she takes the study guide she gives out and bases the questions on the test over the study guide- nothing else. She's very clear on her lectures and she is just so nice and sweet. Homework is all online, sometimes gives out extra credit.
Mrs. Hopper was somehow able to make Biology bearable for me. She understands that no one is pursuing a Biology Major, so she teaches and tests accordingly. She will frequently skip over material if she feels as though her students won't need to know the material in the future. She gives extra credit for showing up to class!
Hopper is a very passionate instructor. She was very clear and descriptive to make sure things were easily understandable. Her tests were relatively easy, coming straight from her powerpoint slides which she uploads online. Points available on MasteringBiology site and final is compilation of questions from previous tests that she posts, so it's EZ
Took class as a non bio major, Hopper made lectures super easy to understand and follow with online power points. Little bit of online homework but not too bad. If showed up to class friday you got extra credit. Offered extra credit throughout the semester and always extra credit on tests.
Tina Hopper is a great teacher! I had her for Bio 101 my first semester freshman year and enjoyed it. I'm usually not the biggest fan of anything science related but she made it interesting!
I despise most science courses but Mrs. Hopper made biology very clear. She understood that none of us were Bio majors and so she taught accordingly. The tests are pretty easy because they follow the study guide almost perfectly. She gives extra credit sporadically for coming to class, especially before breaks and long weekends so come to class.
She made Biology about as simple as it gets
Tina understands that this is a gen ed course and simplifies the information that it's easy to understand for biology challenged people like me. I definitely had to study for each test, but as long as you study the study guide, you'll do fine. She gives a lot of extra credit (5 points every test and lots of attendance) so go to class. TAKE HER!!!!
I loved having Tina as my Biology professor! I was already interested in Biology and she just stimulated my interest! She was always very down to Earth with her students and made Biology as simple as it can get. Although the class has 100 people, she knew a lot of students by name, including myself even though I never talked in that class.
I took this class blended. The tests are super easy, and she hands out at least 2 points of extra credit each week. On top of that, there's extra credit on all the tests, and she offers other extra credit opportunities.
Great teacher. Tests follow lecture 100%. Easy to pass with A.
Easy class. 5 tests total, drops lowest test. Easy online HW assignments over each chapter, they take 15-20 minutes top. Go to class, you have to do group in class writing assignments which add up and a lot of them are extra credit; they're really easy and short(a couple sentences). Cuts lectures short a lot of the time. No book needed.
She's very understanding of students' problems, whether it's with masteringbiology or with the homework. Her class is easy to understand and there is very little homework.
She knows her class is being taken as a gen ed, and actually takes that into consideration. She doesn't bog you down with useless information that you won't ever need, but it can get boring. The assignments are easy and short. Tests are straight from her lectures. I found her somewhat conceited, but overall her class was extremely easy. Safe bet!
Ms. Hopper was upfront about how relaxed the class will be, she always removes your lowest test score before final grades, has small weekly in-class writings that count for participation, answers any questions in or out of class, draws diagrams, has online notes and power points, gives detailed study guide, and let's you know what will be tested.
Tina is a great professor. Lectures are bearable and she is very clear on terms and questionable material. Drops lowest test and homework is online. Don't buy the book, just get the online code for homework. Is the best teacher in the department!
Tina was a great teacher when it came to a gen ed course. She applies material to real life examples. You can easily earn points from the MasteringBiology assignments and the easy quizzes every week. Study guides are detailed and really helpful to prepare for the tests. There were four tests and a final. Super nice teacher and would recommend!
Tina gives a ton of extra credit for each tests. In class assignments are mandatory but easy. Need to show up to class, but in all it is extremely easy to pass with a solid A. Super nice :)
Tina is an amazing professor. I finished with a 97%. She wants her students to do well and she only teaches biology that relates to everyday life. Some of the things she taught me this semester I wish I would have known earlier in my life. Tests are straightforward and she wants you to actually LEARN and you WILL. In lecture she speaks clearly.
Science isn't my strong suit, but the way Hopper teaches makes the material easy to understand. There are in depth study guides & plenty of bonus points. Attendance isn't "mandatory" but there are in class assignments (for completion) once each week at random times. Tests are off of the power points & lecture so the book isn't necessary.
Easy class, great teacher!
Professor Hopper is great! She explains very well and is always available for questions. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities. Attendance is not mandatory but she does in class writings about once a week which are worth points. If you go to class and fill out the study guide for each exam, bio 101 is an easy A.
Great professor, nice lady. Tests are relatively easy, but even if you do bad on the tests, you can get an A. There are tons of easy extra credit opportunities. I'd recommend her to anyone. She was very participative in class and was overall really likeable. Despite it being a dreadful topic, Tina makes it bearable. Go to class to help your grade
She is really great even in a limited class time that's 1 day a week. Really helps you the best she can to be ready for the test with easy to follow lectures and study guides.
I absolutely LOVE professor Hopper. She is approachable and kind, and gives tons of opportunities for extra credit. Bio 101 is an easy A as long as you do the online homework, show up to class, and complete the study guide.
Every class has an in-class group work, lots of exercises online and additional reading for the tests. But she's helping you by letting you keep practicing. Chances for extra credit. Just read the book and do the exercises. She is a good professor.
I took the blended version of this course. She is clear with the information and gives good examples. She gives great study guides for each test. There are extra credit opportunities. Go to class! There are in class assignments that you do in a group of 2 or 3. I hate biology, but she tried to make it painless since it's for non majors.
Makes learning biology super fun & easy! Always available by email & gives TONS of extra credit.
I took the blended version of this class so we only met once a week so the lecture time was longer than usual, but that didnt bother me at all. Prof. Hopper is energetic and engaging and knows that this class is probably full of non-majors so she makes it simple. She offers lots of extra credit. Would definitely take again.
Such a great teacher. Class is easy as long as you put in a small amount of effort outside of the class you'll get an A.
Very nice lady, tests can be kind of tricky but homework really brings up your grade and she offers a ton of extra credit (which you need to go to class to get.)
Tests were tough. In class points were easy. Homework was as expected, boring lecturer in my opinion.
She is a great teacher. Very knowledgable about her field. Very helpful and accessible if needed. Clear requirements. Offers lots of extra credit. Nice and caring. Powerpoints with lots of information and uses an access code for homework that is very user friendly. Super easy if you just do bare minimum you will get an A
She's just super nice in general and gives many opportunities for extra credit. I had above 100% for half the semester for showing up. Homework is on Pearson like lots of classes so it's easy. If you take notes in lecture according to the study guide, the tests are really easy. Plus the final is optional.
Her lectures are very informative and she provides study guides. I did not use the book much except to study, but you have to buy the access code because homework is online. She's super sweet and offers tons of extra credit.
She gives good lectures. She will tell you what's going to be on the test. If you go to class you will pass. I got an A with minimal studying.
Tina Hopper is an amazing professor. If you struggle with this subject, she is definitely the person to take! She makes it interesting, and she is always willing to help. Also give a ton of extra credit opportunities so thats a plus.
class is made up of 4 exams and online homework due the day of the test that acts like a study guide. Offers a lot of extra credit throughout the year that's very easy to complete. Every now and then has in class writing assignments where you write a sentence or two to show you were there and get credit for it.
Thought I was going to hate taking this class because I don't like Biology but the lectures were easy to understand. She's a really great teacher and I really enjoyed this class.
You need to show up to class in order to get points for the in class assignments. She offers a ton of extra credit as well. This class is an easy A as long as you show up and halfway study. I did not touch the textbook.
Super easy A! Theres 4 tests & a final but only 4 of them go towards ur grade so if u get bad grade on 1, it can be replaced, or if you have the grade u want at the end of the semester u dont have to take the final. Literally so much extra credit, its nearly impossible to not get an A if you show up every once in a while, do the hw, and study a lil
BIO 101 was as easy as it could get with Hopper. She constantly says she teaches 101 to non-majors, implying she's going easy on the students. Extra credit for almost all tests brought my grade up a lot, but the tests themselves are usually a little challenging. I never unwrapped the book, but you need the online code. Final is extra credit.
Seriously the easiest class I've ever taken. Hopper is so friendly and gives way too much extra credit. Tests are very simple if you use the study guide to prepare. There is no reason why you should have to take the final in this class. Many students finished with over 100% grades.
So I absolutely hate science and Professor Hopper made the class really interesting and easy. For the summer course there are 4 units for 8 weeks . You get two weeks to complete the work in each unit. She gives extra credit for each unit. I did not put any effort in this course and still received a passing grade. Take her!
I do not like science at all, but I really enjoyed this class. I took it as a night class, which was not that bad. She was extremely helpful and fast at responding to emails. She gives a lot of extra credit which is beneficial to do. She understands this this is a gen ed for most people, so the tests go right off the study guide.
This professor is on your side, very laid back. She tells you a lot of what is going to be on exams, as well as reminds you when things are due. If you're in need of a BIO 101 class, she is the teacher to take.
Professor Hopper is very good at what she does. She makes biology fun (as fun as it can be) and easy to understand. She will often discard the given powerpoint slides for the course and make her own in class if she thinks she can explain a topic better. Gives detailed study guides and extra credit opportunities. I highly recommend taking Hopper!
Professor Hopper is by far one of my favorite professors! She is very nice and explains things in a way that make them understandable without making you feel stupid. She is very flexible with work and outside schedules for tests and quick to answer back. There is EC for each unit and three tries on every MyLab section. Easy A!
Hope you get her and not one of her grad students.
For an intro class, this is a tough one. But she tries hard to make it interesting, and if you spend some time studying the slides, the book, and actually show up for lecture, the tests are doable. I will say I'm glad for the other points possible, like the discussion boards and extra credit and assignments. All in all, she's pretty good though.
the class is mandatory to show up. she is a great option for this class and is the easiest I've heard of. she likes talking about the information she has and is knowledgeable. the tests are much easier than they could be and I have an A right now.
Proffesor Hopper is very nice, lecture is a large class size and not mandatory attendance. However, if you don't go to class you won't learn the info on the test.
attendance is completely optional, but she gives out example packets that r helpful. easy extra credit (grades for completion, not accuracy). always clear when explaining difficult concepts for the average business major (such as myself).
Tina was lots of fun and the class was really easy. There are online homework assignments that you get multiple tries on, 4 tests and the final (you drop the lowest score), and lots of extra credit opportunities. Without much effort, I got an A.
For 100 level class the professor makes the questions on the test deliberately confusing dont take this professor if youre used to understanding the things you read on tests for 100 level class the professor makes the questions on the test deliberately confusing dont take this professor if youre used to understanding the things you read on test
Lectures were informative and interesting lots of class interaction to make sure everyone understood. She was accessible outside of class for any questions and breaks down the material very well for the tests. Attendance isn't mandatory but lectures were a big help on tests, and extra credit avail in every unit.
I'm not a STEM major, but I loved her bio 101 class. Her lectures are easy to understand and are pretty interesting. She knows you're taking the course because you have to and doesn't expect you to care about it like you're majoring in biology. She's seriously fantastic and so entertaining. I've never understood or enjoyed a science class so much.
I am not geared towards science courses, but she made it easy & understandable. She offers 10pts extra credit for each test. All online assignments were based off the text book and due on test days. Attendance isn't mandatory, but going to lecture and taking notes helped me a lot. Tests are multiple choice only.
Had class once a week for 2 hours and it went fast. All homework and extra credit for each test due at the start of class so you don't have to keep up with homework through out. Get three tries on every hw assignment so you should get 100. Tests are super easy (I literally got 100% on 2/5) she drops lowest test/you don't have to take the easy final
She clearly cares for her students and wants to see success. She is willing to answer any questions and makes class enjoyable. Best lab teacher I've had and I've taken 4.
Professor Hopper is a well respected person. She won't waste your time and only teaches what you need to know. She gives out loads of extra credit so as long as you study a bit and take your time on the exams you'll do well in the class. I really enjoyed having her in class too bad corona had it strike. Keep up on the mastering bio work(2 chances).
Lectures were super helpful and interesting and the grading is mostly tests. Other assignments are really easy & can boost your grade. She is SO smart and really understands what she is trying to explain to you.
Do the work, study, get an A. It's really straight forward and organized. Extra credit available which is super nice. Fun class, I learned a lot, definitely worth taking.
Great teacher. Posts online videos of the lab made my her. Very helpful. Very detailed when explaining things. One lab assignment each week. Very easy, yet you learn.
The best prof. you can take for BIO. mastering assignments with 2 attempts, test, and EC. So kind and caring. She is always willing to help. I took as an online class and it wasn't bad at all! Not much work too
I am horrible at biology but she is an amazing professor. SO kind and caring. Offers extra credit for each unit and second chance options with homework which is so nice. You can tell she is insanely smart and knows what she's talking about. If you're good or even decent at biology, this will be an easy A for you. She is awesome!
BIO101 was pretty easy with Hopper. She tells you what to take notes on in the reading and lecture PowerPoints. Don't have to listen to PowerPoints as long as you take notes from the eBook. Assignments are easy if you do the notes. I studied an hour for every test and averaged a B on them and ended the class with a 94. The final is also optional
Professor Hopper is very kind person, and this class is not very difficult at all. As long as you do the homework, fill out the study guide, and take some notes, you should be fine.
This is THE professor to take biology with. I never met her irl since it was an online class, but she seemed so sweet and caring. She is great at outlining what you need to get from the textbook and for the tests. She is fabulous at explaining the concepts. I could not recommend her more. The final is also optional!
I had this online so I didn't interact with her much, but when I did she worked with me and always emailed me back. Most of the class is reading the textbook. As long as you read it and fill out the study guides, the class isn't bad.
Professor Hopper is extremely helpful and understanding. Her lab class is thought-invoking and actually helps you learn the material. You have to study for quizzes, tests, and labs, and they can be hard, but if you study the material that she provides, you'll be good.
She was very upfront about expectations and for a freshman course she made clear participation was the most important part. Very easy course.
Do the homework and discussion boards, and you will do great on the test. She gives out lots of extra credit so take advantage of it, if you struggle with science. I recommend taking this professor.
Great teacher. Gives you plenty of time for assignments and tons of EC. Would take again.
Loved her as my lab instructor. So entertaining and did a great job of explaining everything but still letting us students do the lab on our own. She was so great and made the labs fun!
Very kind and gives plenty of time on assignments. Don't hesitate to take.
Tina Hopper was such an amazing teacher. I took Bio121 first semester, and as a freshman she gave me such a good experience. She is very personable and will take the time to try and get to know you. That means a lot at a school the size of MSU. I learned a lot in her class. I had her for lab, and highly recommend her to everyone.
I took the online course and it was surprisingly easy. I am NOT a biology major but homework definitely helped my grades and she offers extra credit for every unit. There was also an optional final vocab exam to help our grades which I enjoyed. I thought she was very helpful and her grading was fair. Lots of homework but it is HELPFUL for exams.
One of the most understanding and straight forward profs I've ever had at MSU. This is how all Gen-Ed courses should be taught. Content is easy to digest but still stimulating. Lots of extra credit opportunities, flexible deadlines, great communication including a weekly schedule and assignment reminders. Highly recommend for non-majors/gen-ed req.
uhh beware when signing up for this class, i was not aware she did only proctored/respondus monitor for tests.. i was trying to get this gen ed out of the way.. not to study:(
A++++++++
Read one chapter then answer about 15 questions. That was all we have to do each week. The longest part of the weekly work was reading and studying. Her first two tests were easy, but her third one was difficult. She does teach evolution, but even if you don't belive in evolution, it is not too difficult. Really nice person and gives study videos.
great professor, so helpful and accessible. GEP 101 is an easy A
Lovely professor. You get three chances to take weekly chapter quizzes. She has excellent study guides for the unit exams. Always ready to help if you don't understand something, and her lectures aren't totally mind numbing! Plenty of extra credit at the end of the course, too. If you must take this information-overload class, take it with her.
This world doesn't deserve Tina. I was 10-15 minutes late to class every day and turned in assignments spontaneously and she still helped me whenever I needed it. She is probably one of the most genuine GEP teachers out there.
Tests are pretty difficult, but if you study lots and know the terms, you'll be okay. Offers a significant amount of extra credit every unit. Assignments open early so if there's a busy week, you can work ahead. Good communication too in the form of weekly emails and announcements on Blackboard with due dates. Can tell she is passionate about bio.
had this professor for gep, loved her, took again for bio. super helpful and engages with students even in an online course. clear expectations. no +/- grades, standard 10% ranges. 400 points exams, 250 points homework, 60 points discussion boards, and some other stuff that gets added throughout the semester
I absolutely loved Tina! She is a very thorough professor and is always willing to help. She also gives opportunities for extra credit, and allows her students to excel in their studies. I switched to her as my advisor and she has showed me nothing but kindness and has rooted for me every step of the way. Would highly recommend.
I loved this class. Tina's video lectures and reviews are so helpful. The material is relatively easy, but be sure to stay on top of it. Uses Lock Down Browser for tests. Weekly emails telling you what's due each week. Opportunities for extra credit every unit. Easy to contact and always willing to be of assistance to students. Def recommend!
She is a great professor highly recommend.
She is an amazing professor who genuinely wants her students to succeed.
Teacher is very respectful, funny, and would absoutely have her again. She most certainly cares about people and wants people to succeed. Teachers like her is what we need more
Teacher is absolutely amazing. She cares about the class, is funny, energetic, and understands pop culture (unlike other teachers)
Dr. Hopper is great. She wants you to succeed and will do anything to make sure that happens. This class was easy. Just make sure to study for the test. She provides good study material, if you are unsure where to start. I would 100% recommend her!
She seems like a great professor until you realize she will talk an insane amount of crap about her students. I walked past her office one day and she was extremely disrespectful. Too full of drama to be a trustworthy professor. Which is so sad because her students look up to her.
Tina's BIO101 class is great for non-majors. The material is straightforward, and the professor is incredibly helpful. Make use of the weekly emails, extra credit, and unstuck ai to ace this course.
She made the content engaging and explained things clearly. The lectures go by fast but that's just the nature of the content. Homework assignments can be attempted 3 times and help with understanding course content a lot. All you could want in a gen ed prof.
Study and don't procrastinate the assignments to receive a decent grade. Even if you do bad on the tests you can end with an A from doing the homework assigned and the extra credit opportunities.
She is amazing, attendance is not mandatory however she explains in lectures really well. She offers extra credit every unit. The final is optional and can only help your grade.
Excellent teacher. Lots of extra credit opportunities, and very easy to talk to if you have questions. Really cares about what she does and makes the class fun. Definitely recommend.
Mrs. Hopper is my favorite professor I've had! She is so nice, lots of extra credit opportunities, knows students by name and is always willing to help. Content can be a little tough at times but nothing horrible and offers lots of ways to succeed on tests and in the course. Very understanding. If you can take a class with her, you won't regret it!
Ms. Hopper is a wonderful teacher who loves student engagement. She is very helpful and willing to answer any questions a student may have. Her lectures are long and full of material so make sure you have a notebook or a computer.
Tina is a wonderful professor! As long as you do your homework and prepare for tests, you'll have an easy enough time. If you've taken any Bio in high school, you should be pretty well prepared for an easy A if you put in the effort.
Professor Hopper is extremely good at explaining things without over-explaining. She's very easy to talk to and very approachable. Her syllabus is very clear and she will let you know everything you need to know.
Tina was a great professor! she knew her stuff and it showed. Though she does go threw the lectures pretty quick, she uploads all slides, and you have your online textbook to reference (she also will answer your questions during lecture and after- and she wont make you feel stupid!!) She has TONS of extra credit- its HARD to fail her class.
I loved this class! She was a great professor, offering extra credit each unit. The final is optional and drops your lowest test grade. Lectures are heavy but I definitely recommend going to each one and taking detailed notes about the topics covered. The tests and assignments are straightforward. Would definitely take her again!!
