I took this class in block week. The lectures are heavy but the movies are interesting. Maybe because it is a block week that is why it is tough. You have to participate in class a lot. Only disadvantage is that he will not post the grade until the semesters end which we do not know how well we are doing.

I took RELS 205 during the 2023 spring semester and man it's hard course. Ruparell's tests are insanely hard and only will curve the grades if majority of the class does bad. This is very hard for a first year online option. It feels more like a 2nd or even 3rd year course. Steer clear! This class will give a beating to your GPA.

This class isn't one that id recommend anyone take. Your GPA will definitely suffer and so will your mental health. There is A LOT of reading and on top of that the tests are highly subjective. I'd honestly stay away from this class.

This class was made difficult for no reason, the lectures largely provided irrelevant information as well as no textbook to base any knowledge of off during these tests. Concepts which were easy to understand, were made difficult due to the way in which questions were formed. The final taking 3 plus weeks to mark as well. A mess of a course.

Don't listen to the whiners. This was probably the best class I have taken at the U of C. Lectures are amazing and if you do the readings, his tests are fair. It's the only course I have taken here (I am a business student) which actually makes you think and there wasn't a week that went by that my mind wasn't blown.

Was scared initially from the reviews but his class wasn't that bad, id say attending the lectures was necessary since he only posts readings on d2l and none of the slides with information. Lots of readings but not mandatory since he does essentially debrief them in class.

At the start it was very boring but as the class progressed I found the lectures quite interesting. His grading felt very unpredictable. Lots of readings but he debriefs them in lectures. His lectures are very fast and hard to follow though.

This isn't your typical memorize and write class - this is about critical theory and defending your opinions. It's a highly intellectual course so be prepared to use your brain. It was tough because there was no textbook or posted slides to review after lectures. I recommend attending every lecture. However, you learn a lot. I would take again.

good prof very heavy on readingshis rels201 course was nice, if you dont take classes regularly tho you will face troubles and will have to work hard to get relevant notes from classmates because without those youre going to have to be really really good at making stuff up to even get a respectable grade in his long form essay based exams.

He was a nice professor and always was helpful when I had questions. My problem is there was no clear grading criteria so your grades fluctuated quite a bit every test. There was also no textbook, only posted pdf readings. He would not post the lecture notes so attendance is necessary. Wasn't as bad as I thought, but wouldn't take again.

If you care about your mental health then I would recommend not taking this class. The readings are way too long and nothing is graded until the end of the semester. I took this during spring and it's a mess. So unorganized.

This class was a joke. The prof was so hard to contact and was very passive-aggressive when he did reply. Won't grade anything until the end of the semester. This was an online spring class and was so bad I had to drop it in the middle of the sem. I can't risk my GPA for an elective won't recommend this prof avoid if you can.

I took this class with this professor this spring. It was pretty bad and I'm sure 90% of the students in this class felt the same way. There were set dates for when the next lecture would open and when the last lecture closes. It was insanely lecture heavy for a spring course. I'd say even a physics class would've been better.

Locks content every 2 weeks so you can't go back to re-read/re-watch them (not accommodating). Heavy on readings and lectures, more than any typical elective. Prof and TA take forever to reply to students. Not clear on essay instructions, no grading rubric. No grades are out (it's the last week of classes and we have a final next week).

He is inaccessible, he is demeaning. He refuses to be accommodating and understand that people still have a life outside of the class. Had to still continue to do the work for his class while I was deathly sick and working 2 jobs. Furthermore, he refused to help student, often leaving us in the dark about our grades and what to do in the course

Honestly, terrible. Never had a class so unbelievably inaccessible and difficult for no reason at all. Lectures are just a brain dump of 500 ideas, assignments are a mess, and lectures are closed after each week. A paper with the question released 4 days before the due date. 0 grades back before the final. Save yourself and do not enroll.

I took his 370 block week, and I prayed every day to get hit by the biggest truck possible while making my way to his class. You want someone who will write incoherently on a blackboard, not fully answer your questions, lock you out of D2L, and not grade your assignments for months. This is your guy! I have never hated a prof more in my 4 years.
