I thought she did a pretty good job this semester, especially for her first year here. She explains things really well and is very approachable. Her tests are difficult, but they will be no matter who you take this class with. Go to class, take notes, and study and you'll do just fine
Had her for BIO312 Lab. Doesn't always explain things in the most clear manner, but she is very will to help you if you have a question. Very nice professor.
Dr. King Heiden is a tremendous teacher. She really knows her material and her enthusiasm compelled me to study harder than I normally would have. My advice: Take her class!
Extremely nice lady, but her teaching struggles slighty. Tests are fairly hard. I had Seebach for 312 and what was expected of you was a lot clearer. She does really know her stuff but sometimes has trouble getting it across to students. Go to office hours if you need more help.
Does not know how to teach.. class is a slow death.. tests are rediculously hard.. avoid at all costs!!!!!
Very nice professor, BUT can be extremely unclear at times.I had to do a ton of extra work (recorded her lectures, re-wrote my notes, read the book and then added to notes)in this class because it was hard to understand what she was trying to say. Also, she adds extra slides to ppts not included in D2L copy, so there's a lot of extra note taking.
Studied for her class more than any other. She has a hard time getting the ideas across to her students. Many of the students ended up dropping or retaking the class. Tests are very difficult. I had to retake it myself and found the other professor much clearer and easier.
Worst teach I've ever had, hands down. She makes her description of thing in class sound so easy but then the test comes and you get slaughtered!!! Her study guides are useless and she talks down to you in her office hours, also she doesn't curve- our class average on an exam was a 72 and no curve... AVOID IF YOU WANT A DECENT GRADE
I dont know what everyone else is thinking, but i seriously consider Dr.KH to be one of the best lecture porffessors i have ever had at uwlax. she loves what she teaches and will help you with any question. the tests are hard...but what do you expect its a 300 level class. i really wish she was taching 313 next semester. I would recomend her!
I had my doubts, but she was great! She's very enthusiastic and willing to help. Her tests have been multiple choice, and if you take down notes in lecture and use her slides, the tests should be fine. To her slides she adds stuff that isn't on the sheets you print out, but it forces you pay attention. I wish she was teaching 313.
She's the sweetest professor I've ever known. She cares about you and even your grade so she tried her best to help. I strongly recommend her
Great professor! Tests were hard, but if you go to class and actually study you'll be fine. She is very down to earth and very approachable
Dr. King-Heiden is more than willing to help clarify anything and is extremely down to Earth/approachable and funny! Her exams are relatively straight forward; with adequate studying there is no reason to not get an A in lecture. I would highly recommend her for any incoming BIO 312 student!
King-Heiden was extremely unclear in her lecture. She flew through material giving little to no time to actually comprehend and take notes on what she was saying. Lab was just as difficult and her questions on lab practicals and lecture exams are next to impossible. Each question could have multiple answers and most are trick questions.
This class was hard, but King Heiden helped me through. You need to study a lot - there is a lot to learn in this class. lecture was really helpful, but you have to put in the time to do well.
Her tests are hard and unclear. She just tells you to come to her office hours more. She is proud that class averages are 70%. Not much credibility, I would never take her for anything again.
Unclear what you will be tested on. Answers every question asked with another question. Doesnt change tests and forgets what was on the exam (doesnt teach same material) from previous semesters.
This class is HARD but so much fun. King-Heiden is a tough but fair teacher. use the tools given
seriously hard class had to put in a lot of extra time. prof good and helpful - she is really funny and easy to talk to. lots of extra help provided - powerpoints, outlines and practice questions etc.
Tisha is one of the worst professors I have ever had. She is not fair. I lost four points due to a D2L failure. She has poor communication and takes weeks to get a response. Avoid at all possible cost.
great prof. who really understand students. found ways to make things work
Tisha has a hard time communicating what she wants on test questions. By far she gave the most poorly written exams I encountered in college. I really enjoyed class and I thought Tisha was a cool and nice individual. She's good for lab. But she certainly didn't convince me that she knows what she's talking about in lecture.
HARD class. I study more for this class than any other. Kingheiden will always answer questions in class and out. she goes fast in class, but so do other professors. tests are hard but fair.
not sur what some of you are talking about. she is awesome! def take her class. so funny and very helpful.
I had her for 312 and again for 313 (not by choice). I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt coming from summer break but she is still terrible. Her tests are unreasonably hard. Her notes are awful as well. You're better off knowing the book by heart if you want to get an A- there is no way you'll get one if you just go off of her notes.
Do not take her unless you are great at memorizing the book! Her tests are very long and hard! She words the questions very tricky and she is constantly correcting herself in lecture, which confuses me! I try very hard in this class and it does not pay off!
very hard class. She gives lots of tools to help learn material. I feel like I am learning a lot, but I have to put in a lot of extra time. lectures are organized learning stuff fast so you have to keep up
I personally thought she was a great teacher. People may complain but shes probably the best of 313. You still need to put in a lot of time to obtain an A. Nice and sometimes funny.
She keeps class as interesting as she can and explains things well. I'm not a bio person by any means and she definitely made it bare-able for me to handle. The class is tough in general but she'll help you as much as she can. She's also very helpful in you go in and talk to her. She's very welcoming and funny. I RECOMMEND HER FOR SURE!!
AVOID at all costs! Super disorganized with her notes so nothing makes sense. Went to her office hours and she did absolutely nothing for me. Organizes groups in a giant lecture hall and hands out packets of material you haven't learned yet. Barely understands the topics herself. Relied on the book through this whole class. AVOID!
Her powerpoint slides have all the information you need for the class. When people say you need to read the book to pass, they are lying. Every single question on all her test from 312 and 313 can be answered somewhere on her slides. She has great enthusiasm and is very helpful. Attend lecture and study the slides and you'll be set. Great profes
Lectures are average, she's pretty funny though. She assigns these dumb 5 point case studies that require way more work than I think 5 points is worth, but it does help you understand the material. I would take her again, but I wouldn't go out of my way for her.
One of the best professors I've ever had. She is super hilarious and makes learning what can be very dry, dull information fun! If you pay attention in class and put in the time to study, you will do well. She makes it very easy to understand what she is teaching. Highly recommend her.
great class great prof. helpful if you go to her for help. always available to students. really cares about students.
I had King-Heiden for 312 and 313. Her tests are tricky and focus a lot on hormone pathways so be ready to learn. It's hard to reach her at her office hours but she records her lectures and gives you study guides that are great. Read the textbook and make sure to study! I loved her as a teacher because she made me think and I learned so much!
hard class but Kingheiden is awesome. lectures recorded great handouts in class activities help to learn. case study group projects suck but help understand material
Best professor that I've had at UW-L. Lectures are very intensive, but their vigor truly helps you understand the amount of content you will need to know for the exams. Dr. King-Heiden also makes the material applicable to real-life scenarios, which is very beneficial for students looking to go into a medical profession.
For Bio312, she was an exceptional professor. I enjoyed going to class. She's passionate about what she's teaching and wants you to really learn the material well. This being said, I worked extremely hard for my AB. It isn't easy, but she does her best to make it clear cut. Lectures are recorded and can be accessed later, which is very helpful.
Subjective!!! The problem is that she is unfair when awarding points. We are given a peer evaluation for our case study assignments and we only receive a percentage of the points our group gets based on what your group members give you for grades (very unfair). Also, when a question says briefly explain, she actually means write a whole essay!
First off, she's a good teacher, very funny at times and loves what she teaches. Her power-points are so confusing though, they skip around and they follow no pattern. I thought the class was hard, and i was .007% away from the next grade and she wouldn't give it to me. So that really detered me from giving her a good grade. Made me pretty mad.
BIO 312 LAB Dr. King-Heiden is a nice woman, but sometimes she is just so active and wired, that she starts to ramble and talk over herself. There were a few instances where she forgot to tell us vital information for our exams. Overall, I have my reservations about taking her for the lecture portion of a course, but she did a fine job as lab prof
super fun class! she definately loves fish tho. tough class but I learned a lot.
Dr. King-Heiden was a good professor in Bio 313. She was funny and kept the lectures interesting. The material was harder in 313 versus 312 but she was aware and went through overviews at the end of most units which was helpful. If you have the chance, you should take Dr. King-Heiden for lecture or lab!
She is a great professor and really cares that the students understand the material she is teaching. The tests are fairly difficult but manageable. Strongly recommend!
Dr. King Heiden knows the material so well she expects way too much out of her students. I took Maher for 312 and decided to switch for 313 and its one of my biggest regrets. Maher is so much better. Kind Heiden test's are so difficult, even if you studied everything on the objective sheet. She needs to realize we have other classes to study for
She is good in lecture and makes it fun. Then when you go to office hours or email her, she is very impersonal. She doesn't make you feel welcome and makes you feel like you are a bother. Totally different person from lecture to office hours.
Super fun in lecture. great ways to explain things in lots of in class homework to help practice. Super nice and helpful in and out of class. sometimes hard to find time to meet with her, but she goes out of her way to help her students
The Good: Her lab is easy. The Bad: Her lectures are all over the place. I studied her objectives, read the book, and studied for hours each day to only get a 70 percent on each test. She is hard to reach out of class, and doesn't really care to help you out of class. Worst Professor I have had during my 3 years at UWL. Id take someone else!
I think her lectures can be a little unorganized from time to time, but the content tested is covered. She was very helpful outside of class when I met with her to ask questions. I would draw the structures and processes again and again, it helped me really to learn what was happening.
Yeah don't... first day of lecture she mentions how she only tests on things covered in lecture. You learn real quick from the review sheet given out day before exam that's not the case. Pre lect quizzes don't match material. Acts like this is the only class a student has. Need to learn everything from book
Dr. King-Heiden was entertaining and insightful. For having never taught a BIO 105 class until last fall when I took it, she did an excellent job. Her bubbly personality in class helped me stay optimistic when it was hard to keep up. Her exams are somewhat difficult, but she gives ample opportunities to raise your grade if you did bad on exams.
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken. Dr King-Heiden really helped me understand the material. I had to work really hard but she was really helpful. Lots of application type questions so you have to know your stuff. In class activities helped and lectures were really good. She is super open and easy to ask questions
King-Heiden really knows what she is talking about with the material but she tends to focus on things she never tests you on. She spent a whole class period (hour and a half) on something she asked 1 question on for the exam. She will talk about things that never pertain to the course so it is hard to tell what you need to know and what you don't.
As a person, King-Heiden is great. As a professor, she is lacking in a lot of areas. Her exams are hard, often not pertaining to things she spent hours going over in class; she takes points off for things that don't make sense, but will only give some of the full credit back when you point out her mistakes. I don't feel I got much out of the class.
one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. KingHeiden explains material well and is one of best physiology profs. some say not tested on lecture, but that is not true! everything on test was from lecture. questions are applied not memorizing. what would you expect from a 300-level? grading is fair you just have to know your stuff
She loves this stuff more than any person should. Wish she taught more classes because her enthusiasm helped motivate me to study. I learned a lot and worked hard. You cannot coast in this class for sure,
Professor King is a great A&P professor! Her tests are hard, but from what my friends tell me, it is the same for other profs. Go to office hours! She is super helpful and really wants to help you get an A.
In class clicker questions everyday for attendance points and 4 group case studies throughout the semester. Very good professor who knows she stuff and is very passionate about human anatomy. She will stop and take time to explain difficult content and answer questions. Had her for lab too and she is a great help when asking her questions.
So this is Toxicology specific, but do not take this class. The lectures are all over the place and general, and then you get to the exams (which are ridiculously hard) and its very specific. The textbook is a joke, and the concepts might be easier to understand with more worksheets. Shes so nice but I wanted to drop this class in the worst way.
Tisha king Heiden teaches the most basic stuff In lecture but makes her exams totally different from what she teaches. I would study so much for her exams and always get 70s on them and her class averages would be high 60s. She spends the whole lecture saying were going to talk about that later cause she doesn't teach at all. Avoid at all costs.
This class was much harder than it needed to be. I struggled to adapt to her more difficult & specific exam format, so those were rough. She gives other assignments & extra credit opportunities that helps make up for the many points lost. The one blessing from this course was that she dropped our lowest exam score to accommodate a syllabus error.
Means well and loves anatomy, but lectures get boring and half the time the things she covers in detail aren't on exam. I would recommend her for lab for 312 or 313, but not for lecture.
She went over the lectures way too fast. Even though we covered lots of material before each unit exam, she would test us on the most irrelevant minor details.
Tests were very hard, but it's A&P... it's not supposed to be easy. She was very knowledgeable and made the course content as interesting as possible. Good at elaborating when asked to clarify something. Just go to class and be actively engaged and taking good notes. Actually study more than the night before for exams and you'll be fine.
She was very helpful with answering your questions outside of class but the information she gave you did not clear up what you were confused about. Her tests are way harder than her study guides that she gives for you. Also, be ready to read your textbook on a daily basis because the powerpoints don't really make any sense.
Dr. King-Heiden taught her first semester of BIO105 when I was in her class, and it was rough. Most of her lectures were okay, but the information was pretty useless for the exam. Don't memorize facts, focus on learning how it works in the context of the bigger picture. Lots of tricky questions, but she's a good trial for what bio classes are like.
Professor King-Heiden was the rudest professor Ive ever had. She will make you wish you didnt ask a question. She gets annoyed all the time and was just so incredibly rude to my class. Her class was extremely hard and she didnt care if we did bad on the exams. She is all over the place and does not give lectures that match the exam material.
She is extremely rude when you ask her a question, condescending. She makes her test so much harder than anything she lectures about and anything that is in her quizzes. Puts zero effort into actually teaching the class. Uses the "flipped classroom" model to get away with being a bad and flat out lazy teacher. Rude, condescending, and lazy.
The first day of class she said she didn't really care about Human Anatomy and Physiology so that's not exactly something you want to hear. The pre-class quizzes were wrong half the time and her reply would be not to worry about them because "it wasn't a lot of points." and she would admit her exams had multiple correct answers but only 1 accepted.
Be ready to do A LOT of work outside of class. Expects you to come to class having already reviewed a lot of the material. Lots of little hidden assignments/knowledge checks that are easy to miss. When class doesn't understand something, puts you into groups and just expects you figure it out. Knowledgable prof, but I wouldn't take again.
She cares about the topic but is difficult to understand and lectures can be hard to follow. Tests are VERY difficult. To receive a passing grade you must dedicate most of your time to this course.
super supportive when ask questions. You have to learn the intro work before class. If you don't keep up with that class is hard. You need to understand the concepts because exams are all application. She even lets you earn points back by doing a wrapper thing.
Uses the flipped-classroom mechanism that doesn't seem to work for a lot of students. A lot more self learning put in with little beneficial lecturing. Does not offer a set up that's specific to her type of teaching which sets you up minimally for success. Really need to work for it on your own and figure out what works best for you early on.
Jargon heavy, intense lectures, extremely hard to follow if you do not have a physiology background. Group exams were take-home, little to no grading criteria provided outside of alloted points per question. Strongly do not recommend unless you have a direct interest in toxicology or physiology.
Do not take this class with this professor. It is very lecture heavy and she goes fast and if you had not taken AP Bio in high school you will struggle. She goes fast and gives a lot of information at once.
she is very impersonal and rude when you email her or go to office hours. She doesn't make you feel welcome and makes you feel like you are a bother. very lecture heavy and everything she teaches is not on the exam. horrible teacher, do not ever take her.
rude to students when communicating through email
Super lecture heavy, hard to grasp, not great at explaining, won't curve grades even when test average is an F, she just gets mad at us instead, she's pretty nice, only reason for 2 stars
My best advice is to never take Dr. King-Heiden. She uses a flipped classroom format, which means you teach all of the content to yourself. She is super rude and condescending, and gets mad when you are not an expert on the subject. The most insane and unrealistic exams Ive ever taken in any science course. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Do not take Tisha for lecture or lab. Her flipped classroom approach is not helpful and doesn't let you learn well. Her exams are the hardest thing ever, I've never studied for a class more. She gets frustrated when you ask questions and she never responds to her emails. She often comes unprepared and her slides during class are not helpful either.
Professor King Heiden is a nice person in general, I think. She is a terrible teacher though. Her tests are supposedly what we talk about in lecture, but there is always a lot of information that we never and talked about or is related to what we are learning. She isn't very polite when you email her and doesn't put a lot of effort froward to help.
Professor T. is a great person! She really wants her students to pass, as well as to understand the content. She gave numerous chances for extra credit that were quite easy and very helpful. I would definitely recommend taking her. Probably my favorite professor this term!
Dr. King is personally a great person and super funny but relies too much on her flipped classroom technique. I would suggest taking her when you can dedicate a lot of time to this class. I had her for both lecture and lab and ended up having to drop the class due to the heavy amount of independent learning you need to contribute to the class.
As someone who almost didn't pass BIO 312, Dr. King-Heiden was a breath of fresh air. Her tests are difficult but if you put in the work, you'll be fine. She's always willing to answer any questions both in and outside class time. She gives students many opportunities to boost their grade through knowledge checks, assignments, and extra-credit
personally liked flipped classroom. it is a really hard class but Dr. T gives lots of practice questions in class to prepare for exams and does exam reflections for extra credit which helped me do better on the next tests. highly recommend.
Tisha's lectures were always really engaging, the in-class activities and knowledge checks are really helpful to keep you on top of course material, and the test were well written. She gives points back for almost every test, and has extra credit opportunities. If you stay on top of the course material you'll be successful!
Do not take this professor! Exams are the hardest things ever and no matter how much you study, you can easily fail. Also, her assignments are only worth 1 or 2 points which does nothing to help your grade.
This class was really hard, but Dr T made it approachable. I learned so much! take home exams were hard but we were able to work together. homework was pretty straight forward. had to write a paper but it wasn't too bad. highly recommend
super hard class but Dr T really helped me understand the material. I was nervous at first about her flipped classroom but figured out in end was a great way to learn. must go to class and go to office hours for sure! she seems to really care about students. tests are hard but fair. lab is much easier than 312
Dr. King-Heiden is super kind and caring, but her class is SO HARD. I got an A in BIO 312 and am fighting for an AB in this class. She uses a flipped classroom, but she expects A LOT of extra effort which is unreasonable. She is helpful in office hours, but it seems like she picks favorites. I would recommend taking a different prof for this class.
She has quizzes every week and if you don't get the score you want and ask her what to do improve, she will not help. She will tell you not to worry about and it is not worth that many points. She also does this so called "flipped classroom" method. If you like learning an entire anatomy/physiology course by yourself...this is the class for you.
one of the hardest classes I took last semester but prof King helped me learn. I had a hard time getting the pre-class work done, but it made a difference when I did. I loved that lecture wasn't just sitting there falling asleep. all of the test questions were from in class application questions and case studies so I felt prepared for exams.
She uses flipped classroom approach, but it's not as scary as it sounds and has proven to improve grades. She is a great lecturer and provides many examples for topics. Exams are application based. She's accommodating and very accessible outside class. She also offers extra credit and tries to get you to the next letter grade if you're close to it.
I found the flipped classroom to really help. There is work to do before class, and when I did it, it really helped. Dr. T uses lots of examples and practice activities in class to prepare you for the exams. weekly quizzes helped me keep on top of material. there are exam reflections to earn extra credit. highly recommend going to office hours
I struggled at first with the flipped class thing but went to office hours and did exam reflections and was able to do well in the class. assignments and exams are graded VERY fast so you know right away where you stand and what you need to do to improve. agree - go to office hours! super helpful!
Loved Dr. T. I learned so much and really enjoyed class. I worked hard and learned a lot. she went above and beyond to help.
Dr. T is a great person, very caring and kind. She really seems like she wants you to succeed and stays inspirational during the entire course. The reason I'm giving her a three is because, I don't think that her lectures and exam expectations match up and that's been kind of frustrating.
Dr. T is super approachable and hilarious- never a dull moment in office hours. However, I found myself there often since her slides had little to no information, and rarely lined up with her lengthy objectives. I found it difficult to prepare for exams since I truly didn't know what to study. 313 is hard regardless, but I really enjoyed Dr. T!
Great personality and easy to follow when you're in class. If you don't go to lecture, tough, you have no chance of knowing what's going on unless you ready the entire textbook. Doesn't communicate what she does in class if you miss. Wouldn't take her if I didn't have to, but not horrible.
Lecture slides are poorly put together, very little information, won't understand unless you go to class. Lectures are often about what-ifs scenarios, not even spending time to help you learn what you need to in order to understand them. Exams don't line up well with lecture material. Objectives are very confusing. Don't take if you don't have to.
Prof. King-Heiden's BIO313 class is challenging but rewarding. The flipped classroom approach requires more work upfront, but the in-class activities and exam prep make it worthwhile. Unstuck Study AI was a game-changer for my studying. Overall, a tough yet valuable course.
Bio313 is hard no matter who teaches it. Dr. T uses a flipped classroom so there is time to practice application. Exams are very similar to these in class activities so go to class. I also recommend going to student hours regularly - it is helpful to clarify things.
Dr. T really cares about her students and helping them succeed. Exam reflections are really helpful. Flipped classroom took getting used to but loved it in the end. alot of application so in class practice prepared me for exams. and of course you have to go to class - seriously who doesn't think you have to go to class to learn material?
Had her for BIO 312 LAB and overall she was a good professor and always helped if you had questions. LAB for the most part is on your own review. The exams where are but you just have to study everything because you never know what will be asked.
Super heavy coursework, but she did her best at answering questions and giving us ample amount of time to learn material in lab. The lectures in lab were not helpful however as it was just her spewing all of the module content at you for 45 minutes.
Just had her for lab Super helpful lectures to connect to what learning in lab. some lectures were longer but still helpful She tested us a lot and helped prepare for exams. the class in general is hard because you have to just come in and learn anatomy - not a lot of activities. just come in with a term list and figure it out.
