Great teacher, funny, clear about what will be on his tests
Professor is nice and funny, but sometimes can be unclear on subject matter; very clear on what's going to be on tests.
Very easy teacher, labs get done quick, very friendly and helps out his students as much as he can, just do the labs and do decent on the test, and his class should not be a problem. He is very funny also, keeps his class very intrested.
This was the only Chem teacher that I actually understood... he makes Chem easy for the student... we usually got out of lab really early. Overall, T.J. is a great Chem teacher.
He is the best teacher I have ever met. I took O chem and chem 5 with him and worked for him as TA for chem 100. His tests are easy if u pay attention in class.
A truely dedicated teacher who will go out of his way to help you out.
He is usually an easygoing and cheerful teacher. He tries to explain the material in a way that can be best unserstood. He prefers making jokes to answering questions. He promises more than he delivers. An excellent performer, but a mediocre teacher.
quite the performer, pretty funny guy that is usually pretty entertaining, but I had to drop it and hone my math skills before I passed. Pretty tough math stuff in the beginning if your not good at it; some general algebra stuff only, but if your weak in math, take some algebra first.
Great teacher, very helpful, Can be strict but is needed with some students. I would take another chemistry class with him.
was a great teacher but I still failed because my math skill were weak which lead into a spiral of poor test scores. He also tends to joke a lot.
AWSOME TEACHER!! he makes everything fun and funny, I was really worried when I thought ot taking "chemistry" but that class was soo great I would recommend it to ANYONE! it was WAY better than I expected!
Excellent teacher. He deserves so much more than how he is being treated at VVC. He has a cool sense of humor that offends some girls. He is a womanizer, but what guy wouldn't be with all those college girls panting over him? He is very clear on what is going to be on tests, labs are short and fun, you will get out early almost every day.
Wasn't helpful and made embarrassing comments about students in class, practices favoritism and accused me of cheating in front of the class and I proved him wrong!! BAD Teacher!!!
T.J. is a great prof. I had a hard time and failed my first time...he went out of my way to help me with my math....his dedication to helping me with math allowed me to pass. I think T.J. is awsome.
Such an all around terrific guy. Fantastic sense of humor and if u want to get on his goodside early he loves a #2 from in-n-out animal style works every time!!

Great teacher and really cool. Just do the work, pay attention and you will do fine. He will help you if you need it.
He is friggin awesome!!
One of the best teachers ever. Really cares about individuals learning. Believes tests are innacurate depictions of intelligence.
I was terrified of Chemistry but TJ's class helped--he told you what to study and focus on, gave worksheets to help you. He is a bit of a male chauvinist and can be prejudiced against you if you act completely stupid, but hey, this IS college, right? Not much hand-holding, just straight-forward. I ended up really enjoying his class (and got an A!)
he is a really great teacher! study what he tells you to study and write EVERYTHING that he writtes on the board as ur notes. the tests are based on notes and not on the book. tests wont be hard as long as you study what he tells you to study. just do as he says and you will be fine. and if you ever need help, he will help you without question.
Good teacher. Kind of a smart ass so listen up.
He was a good instructor. He really knew what he was talking about, and the lectures were very organized and easy to understand. Highly recommended.
he is a great teacher. he is funny and makes the class interesting i took him and was his TA forever it seems like. he loves in and out like someone else said. he likes a #2 no onion with a large ice tea. trust me i had to go all the time. i highly recommend him
He plays favorites, is unecessarily rude at times, likes to poke fun at people, but does offer some cool techniques to help those with trouble understanding concepts. Only met guys more full of themselves with power and sarcasm in the military. Hardly uses book except for homework. Lab grades are strict. Don't be one minute late!
Great teacher. Sarcastic. Stupid people irritate him to no end! Like someone else said though this is college so listen up! Has some good tricks up his sleeve to help you with concepts. I look forward to O Chem with him.
Dedicated teacher & nice guy. He works hard for us and tries to make class interesting. He downloaded his teachers notes for us which made it a lot easier! He Loves In & Out Double-Doubles no onions. I believe it's combo #1. You'll like his classes if you do the work. He tells you exactly what is and isn't on the test, GL!
This Prof. was my favorite teacher the entire time i was at vvc. He is a very good teacher. He makes the class fun. But the work in the class is hard. You will have to study hard to pass his tests. He gives good lectures and is easy on the eyes:)
I was nervous about Chemistry going into it but TJ taught it so well I actually enjoyed it. He's all about helping his students get the best grade possible but he expects a certain level of accountability from his students. He's a stickler on punctuality, but his strictness really helps you learn a difficult subject like chemistry.
always hated chemistry, and i never thought i could get an A in chem. However, It's not am easy class, but TJ's lecture is very clear and understandable. everything he does is for you to improve your grades, let you know what to study for the test, so you can concentrate on the materials
If you're there to learn, he's there to teach. He respects students who are serious about his class. Don't be late, study the material, & do exactly what he says. His method of teaching is GREAT! He provides everything for you to be able to get an A in his class. It's just up to you to use it
Kennedy is one of the greatest teachers i have ever known. He was born to teach. He is always, always willing to help you and is very good at explaining things. He cares about his students. He is always good to talk with. I wish there were more teachers like him. And he looks alot like the actor Russell Crowe =)
Totally Unreasonable, Never Lectures, The Worst Teacher I've Ever Had.
Taking him was the worst mistake I ever made. He is a complete hypocrite that is so completely into himself it is sickening. He picks favorites and treats those that don't fit his likable standards like crap. He promotes his students to fail with his mood swing grading system and hypocritical rules. He is always late, but if you are you miss tests.
He is a very good teacher, I never understood chemistry better than in this class. He only lectures for about 20 to 30 minutes then you work in groups but he answers questions you may have. LISTEN to what he says, read the book, do the homework and you will be fine! Also the book is cheap only around $30.
Hybrid class means do it on your own! NO help from teachers, they just sit back and collect a paycheck while the entire class fails.
Not a good teacher... however if you're attractive take him because he will bump your grade if he finds u attractive... very discriminitve!
Aweful teacher! Worst I have ever taken for sure. You can't learn from him. He is very rude and picks favorites. He leaves in the middles of class, including labs, so if you need help too bad. You basically have to teach yourself and even if you are able to ask him a question he treats you like you are dumb for not knowing the answer already.
This guy is truly heaven sent. He is more talented than Chuck Norris. He literally turned water to its "gas phase" by touching it. I even learned linear algebra and how to write a persuasive essay simply by hearing him speak about Chemistry. He once lectured without coming to class!!! He "is" the most interesting man in the world.
He can kill ants with a magnifying glass.... AT NIGHT!!! When he plays Chess, his queen can make the move the horse makes! He can fused hydrogen to helium with his bare hands. His H2 Hummer gets 100 mpg!!! He can pop a wheelie... on a unicycle! He counted to infinity... TWICE! He can divide by zero.
its more of a teach yourself kind of class but i really didn't study much or try to hard and i managed to come out with a B
This is one of the best teachers I've taken. He is easy going, friendly, and makes it easy to ask for help. I wasn't thrilled about taking CHEM over the summer, but having a good teacher made it a lot easier.
TJ was great! He has a sense of humor and does his best to help everyone pass. He is strict on safety and attendance. He is a little rough around the edges, but he really knows his stuff and is enthusiastic about his students!
Really good teacher! As long as you make it clear to him that you are there to learn he is a very pleasant teacher. He likes people to take his class seriously, so do so and you will pass. He is a VERY good teacher and I would recommend him to anybody! Best teacher I've had at vvc thus far.
He is very smart and is a good teacher. It's true that the class, whether hybrid or not, is mostly 'independent study' style, he does answer questions very well. If you have a question about an earlier portion of the workbook, be sure to ask him THEN, and not later. It seems he doesn't like questions about earlier material. Take Kennedy for chem
This class is what you make of it. I'll be honest I got a C because I slacked off and Im an A student, I had a rough semester when i took it due to emergencies. Study and you'll get an A, TJ is a great guy and will help you. Dont slack like me and get a C, pay attention and an A is easily Attainable.
Kennedy is a good teacher. He is very specific on how to get a good grade. Even more specific on what he wants you to study. At least he tells you what will be on the tests. Also has practice quizzes which help so much with his quizzes. You must be prepared to study about 3-4 hours a week. An A is very possible. Go to tutoring if you get stuck
Also make sure to do the HW and study practice quizzes and you should get an A on just about every quiz. Work ahead of schedule. You need to be on track and ready to learn the next chapter or you will fall behind. I got a B, but I fell a little behind at one point, until I got tutoring and caught up in studying.
Not sure how you can complain about T.J. He goes out of his way to make it easy for you. There is a lot of homework and he tells you that on day-one. He obviously cares about his students. He helped write a textbook which saves his students cash hand over fist. Just follow the few rules he has. Working ahead is SUCH a good idea for this class.
Quizzes each week, study the practice ones online, sometimes they have same questions. Do not get behind or you will pay the consequences. Study and go to tutoring. Helpful to have friends in the class to help each other study. Lots of work but it's do0able and if you're willing to put in the work and do as TJ says you can pass the class.
T.J. is great!! He is funny and makes class fun. He is very specific on what he wants and what you need to do to pass the class. You must do the homework and you must study if you want to pass.
Hybrid requires lots of outside work, but that's told upfront. TJ is funny/easygoing when he believes students R trying hard, ridicules when not trying. Explains concepts well but only when specifically asked, since hybrid=no lecture.Rigid about obedience, helpful about guiding U to study appropriate material for exams. Recommended overall.
I would not take this class with anyone but TJ. He is funny and always willing to answer any questions. I think people mistake his laid back personality for an attitude problem. He is great!
TJ was very strict but his class is easy to pass just do all of your homework, study the self test and ask questions. When you do your lab show your work it will help you with lab test in the future.
When I entered his class, I was a little apprehensive. A few friends of mine had warned me not only about the difficulty of Chemistry, but also of how TJ would "whoop me into shape." If anything, attending TJ's class will teach you how to be a good student. If you treat him with respect and LISTEN, you'll do well in his class. I did.
Favorite prof this far!! I took the hybrid class in a six week summer course. TJ made the tough class possible and very enjoyable. He was always willing to answer any questions I had and explain things as long as I had put in the work required. I learned a lot and would readily take any class from TJ!!
Favorite prof this far!! I took the hybrid class in a six week summer course. TJ made the tough class possible and very enjoyable. He was willing to answer any questions I had and explain things as long as I had put in the work required. I learned a lot and would readily take any class from TJ!!
He is a very hard teacher. If you take his hybrid class, make sure your prepared when you come to class. He expects you to know it. Not a easy teacher or a nice teacher at that.
This class is hard! I took the hybrid class and I never had text anxiety until taking this class. You basically teach yourself and attend labs. I recommend watching the lectures online. T.J. is a nice guy, and I recommend him over the other instructor who teaches this class. You need to stay on top of you work. Do everything they say to a "T".
Very rude to his students, plays the favoritism card. DOES NOT TEACH. You teach yourself EVERYTHING. Extremely judgmental and rude. Makes his students feel bad about themselves if they do not understand the material. Not using a formal textbook made everything more difficult.
TERRIBLE. Dr. Basiri changed the exams to fill in for ALL the chemistry 100 classes starting summer 2014. Only 2 people passed in my entire class, which dropped from 27 to 13 people through the semester. 2 tests, only 8 questions each and 4 quizzes 5 questions each. This class is way too hard to be intro. I studied like crazy and barely passed.
Took summer '14. Unfortunately, that is when they stopped doing multiple choice, so that made it even harder I think. The hardest class I've taken yet. You have to study a lot and make sure you know the material fully to do well. TJ knows chem so well, and if you ask questions he will gladly help, and is very clear. Hybrid so taught myself.
Definitely recommend over Dr. Basiri because he does an online conference every week that students can access, which is where he lets us know almost exactly the type of problems we will see on the tests and quizzes, which were extremely helpful. Only 100 pts in the class. You have to work your butt off if you want to get a B or A!
Tests and quizzes are timed. The time wasn't a problem for the tests- we got an hour- but the quizzes were a little stressful and I always finished very close to when our ten minutes were up. Took over summer so very fast. Got it over quicker though. And I didn't have any other classes so it helped me concentrate on just this one.
Hard class. May seem mean but he's not; if u respect him, he'll respect u. I worked SO hard to get the best grade possible. Ended up getting an A! (Praise the Lawd!) DONT BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS! Apparently the summer course has a 25% pass rate. Thought I was going to fail. But I got an A with intense studying. Totes worth the extreme effort.
This is the worst professor I have encountered thus far. He does not care about the progress that the students make and on average only one or two students pass the class. This is based on the way that the class is set up and the lack of help from the professor. He looks down on students and the tests are more advanced than the material presented.
I don't see how he has a rating of 4 when only about 3 people pass his class each semester. Seriously do not take him unless you are the next Albert Einstein! You have slave away to pass his class and study for at least 10 hours a day. When only 3 students pass your class; it's not the students, it's the teacher.
He makes it seem like you don't try only because 2 or 3 people pass the class. He does conferences and says study this it going to be on the test and it's not. He says if you did bad on this test don't worry you still have a chance to pass, not true. I tried so hard to learn the stuff and didn't do so well and still failed. Too hard for intro chem
Hardest class ever! Was harder than any honors class I have taken. You teach yourself, which is extremely difficult, especially when he makes you feel bad when you don't understand the subject. Should not be an intro class.
Class is set up to have students fail. This professor doesn't provide an answer key when you want to see where you made mistakes in your tests and tells you that if you want to know, he can tell you. He bullies students and makes them feel stupid to the point where you don't even want to ask questions. I am sure the high ratings here are all fake.
Don't waste your time or money on this class. When the school's counselors are telling you you should think of taking this class in another school or test out of it, you know there's something wrong there. Too bad I didn't follow their advice. I've been reading all the reviews here and I wish I could rate the professor a zero.
On his conferences he would say what to study and I would study like crazy and on test day less than half was on it. After seeing that only a couple of students pass you would think they would make it less difficult but NO they make it harder. Just because your falling he says you are not trying EVERYONE DOES NOT LEARN THE SAME.
Smug and entitled professor. Don't waste your time. This school needs help when it comes to the introductory chemistry department.
Worst teacher and class I have taken at VVC. Save your money take it at another school.
Don't take this class. This professor likes belittling the students and doesn't like to be asked for help. He needs to reevaluate his career choice.
Don't take this class this is the worst professor I've taken. No help at all
This class is challenging because of the material covered but also because of the lack of help and the way the grading system is set up. You would think VVC would invest in better professors and a tutoring center.
He is a teacher that wants everyone to pass. When students don't give him or his class respect, he will return the favor. Whenever I asked for help, he would help be to his best ability. Not sure why students don't like him. I guess this is their first science class. I would highly recommend Professor Kennedy. He was so helpful!!!!!
Don't waste your time in this class. I have never in my entire life received an F in grade school, high school, etc. until I took this class. I'm still in shock. What you study in the lectures, and what is in the book is NOT going to be whats on your test. So that's why it is impossible to pass! He gets paid and that's all he cares about, NOT YOU!!
I've taken biology, chemistry and physics in high school and got decent grades because my teacher was awesome and helpful. I took biology and anatomy in college and got a B in both again because my professors were helpful and awesome. I took this class and failed because the professor was the worst. I reached out for help but didn't get enough back
Whatever you do never take intro to chem at VVC. It doesn't matter if you take it with Basiri or Kennedy. The class is structured in a horrible manner, for you to fail. It is all controlled by Dr. Basiri-Kennedy following the same structure, . There is a high failing rate and only about a quarter pass. So much vagueness with material & exams.
Just started taking this class over at another school after getting failed by this professor. When I compared the new professor I am lucky to have found, to professor Kennedy, the difference is night and day. My new professor is encouraging, positive, available and most of all passionate about his job. Professor Kennedy is the complete opposite.
Kennedy is horrible don't take this class, you will regret it. If you forget anything at all, he kicks you out of the class for that day, pencil, paper, etc. the tests are written and only about 7 questions long so if you get 1 wrong its a huge chunk of your score. And worst of all his condescending attitude. This guy thinks hes mr universe.
Kennedy wasn't my teacher however, I interacted with him because he is willing to help all of the chemistry students. This class is difficult, mostly because it's hybrid and you're teaching yourself. Kennedy makes himself readily available and is very supportive. I do not recommend taking this class in the summer. It is very difficult!
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Worst professor. This is suppose to be an intro class. When you ask a question he makes you feel stupid. Do not take him seriously. Worst professor I've ever had in my 2 years at vvc
The class isn't that hard if you put the time and effort into it. They changed the tests are now multiple choice. Kennedy tells you the first day of class what you need to do to pass the class if you don't do it that's your fault. He will answer any questions you have either email or in person. He also offers online conferences on his own time.
Professor Kennedy is possibly the best instructor at VVC. His class is very simple and easy. He is strict and will call you out on your BS. He lets you know exactly what you need to do to pass. He is ALWAYS there to answer ?'s. There's no excuse for failing this class. He gets bad rep from lazy students. He wants you to pass. Cont...
cont Tips for passing: Read Syllabus Attend Class Pay attention when he speaks Read the book Watch his lectures online Do the homework, practice problems and practice tests Attend his CCC Confer where he goes step by step on homework and practice test problems Visit his office or email him if you are struggling Do this and you will pass easily
This professor is so bad I wish I could give him a rating of zero instead of one.
Have to work for it, hes extremely helpful!
He is a great professor. He takes chemistry and education seriously. There are too many students not devoting themselves to learning the material, you cannot blame a professor for lack of motivation and commitment from adult students. He respects you as long as you show respect for him and his class. You have to work for it, but he is there to help
An outstanding instructor to say the least! This is a difficult subj. with a large amt. of content to learn yet TJ gives you EVERYTHING that you need to pass. He cares deeply about your success but he cannot help those who are lazy and unaccountable for their actions. Study. Do the work. Listen to him. Follow the rules and you will succeed.
For how tough the class was Kennedy was an amazing professor that is eager to help students out. Because it is a hybrid class, you are going to have to work for your grade and work to understand the material, and its tough. But if your are not willing to put in the time you are not going to pass. He makes it so you have all the materials to pass.
Professor Kennedy is an outstanding educator and cares about the success of his students. He provides tools to aid success if you invest the time to use them. This class is difficult and deserves the upmost attention to pass. I recommend this class because the expectations are clearly explained in first class and are adhered to throughout.
Yes! Mr Kennedy is very strict, but he prepares you for the field of science. If you come to class late he will as you to leave, happened to me. However taught me to respect showing up to class on time, it does cause a huge distraction to the rest of the class. Very hard course, BUT if you don't let things go to heart you can learn a lot from him
Online lectures are not very good quality and viewing wise. Can't see what he writes on the board. Students heads are in the way of the camera. Lectures are the core of the online class which is too bad.
Kennedy is a great teacher. He lets you know everything you need to do to pass his class. He helps you with any questions you have inside and outside of class. His class is very hard but as long as you study and pay attention to everything he says, you will definitely pass. Just remember to be prepared and on time or else he will kick you out!
I would not take him for summer or any short session. Basically shows up for five mins of class and leaves his assistant to watch over the lab. Lecture is online and does not reflect the hmwrk AT ALL! come prepared will kick you out of class for not having something, goggles for lab, homework, ANYTHING!
This is not an easy class I failed the first attempt and had to retake. Science in college is hard when you compare to other courses and you have to work your ass off and for good reason to get to a good paying job. Study 3X harder than other courses and you will pass! I passed with a B and I'm proud of it because it did not come easy.
Horrible teacher! Shows up to class late and on his phone but we get sent home if we are late I've learned more from the TA than him or his lecture! He said he's so big on outside communication, but I've reached out to him outside of class and he did no reapond to my email. Don't take this class unless you know all about chemistry already
I took the hybrid class. The online lectures were awful! You could not see what he was writing on the board. Did not explain material clearly. There was no textbook. Only a "book" put together by Mr. Kennedy which consisted of about 40 pages of papers held together by a plastic cover sheet. He constantly put students down when they asked questions,
Do yourself a favor and do not take this professor. This is the hardest class I have ever taken at VVC. Kennedy is not helpful and not friendly towards students. His online lectures are near unbearable due to the squeaking of a student's chair in the background. Good luck if you take this class.
Professor Kennedy clearly is knowledgeable however doesn't articulate his knowledge well. A prior understand of chemistry would be beneficial, otherwise, be prepared for lots of self study and using outside resources like Khan Academy to pass. Your grade will basically be the result of 4 tests, so be prepared!
Long poor quality Lectures. I decided to only study the lecture book & attend the ccc confers my grades on tests went up dramatically. ccc confer meetings very helpful, he tells u what u need & he seems nice during these sessions, but different in lab if you ask him a ? he makes u feel dumb. Best advice study alot, attend the meetings. Good luck.
His lectures looked like they were filmed with a potato. The homework (about 75 percent of it) had nothing to do with the lectures or what we had to actually learn for the tests. The hybrid class is basically teach yourself everything, did no cc conference, and left during tests and labs. He did let us use our books on three of the tests though.
Very rude teacher he intimidates his students and makes them constantly feel inadequate. He can be nice and funny but if you mess any thing up or have any questions he will send you home and make you feel like an idiot. I took Chem before at a different school so the class was not too difficult for me but I wouldn't ever recommend it to anyone
Tough teacher and can seem intimidating or rude at times. I passed with an A very easy. I did the hw and attended the ccc conferences and got an A on every test. His book is extremely helpful. If you put in effort you will get an A.
I really liked T.J. In lab, he's barely there, he mainly had the aid watch us. He is kind rude when you ask him questions and very blunt. But he likes you very much if you email him questions and go to the CCC conferences. Those help you a BUNCH! The book isn't even really a book but is helpful. Basically do everything he says and you'll pass.
Kennedy is very clear about what is to be expected in his class. He emphasizes in the beginning of the semester that the work is hard and you have to keep studying each week, or you'll fall behind. Procrastination doesn't work well in chemistry. Kennedy is very detailed with his explanations, but you have to really pay attention.
As a person - I can't stand him. As a professor - I respect him. You won't pass the class without watching the lecture videos. He is straight up about what he expects from you. You need to be ready to put in a lot of time and effort in this class. I had a 4.0 my whole life, but I ended up with a C in this class. I was just happy to pass though.
Great professor!
There are 4 tests and a lab exam. Each class has a lab. Don't ask questions if you don't want to feel stupid. Read the book, watch the lectures. He has confers outside of class online in which he provides a study guide. Self-tests online give good practice. Keep up on hw and practice problems in book. Arrive on time.
Love Kennedy! Always responsive if you need help via email. Won't put up with any bs which is a nice change. It's college not high school it's not supposed to be easy! Got an A and his text book was amazingly helpful
Broo okay- first of all if you learn by lectures, I do NOT recommend this class. Two, you're going to have to teach yourself. If you took AP Chem, you're ahead of the game. Three, there are 4 exams, and they're all based on his textbook. For the love of God do the practice exams or you won't pass the exams. Labs are pretty easy. Do the HW. !STUDY!
TJ is a phenomenal instructor. He gives you everything you need to get an A you just have to put in the work.
Kennedy is nothing but fair. This is definitely a class to be on you A game and abide by his rules(not hard at all). Lots of HW and he gives you the tools to pass this class, its up to the student to use them. He does a CCC Confer once a week for each chapter which is SUPER helpful for the exams.
TJ is a great instructor! He knows his material and how to teach it well. He also made chemistry seem interesting and fun which made it easier to learn.
The lectures are not accurate enough to the understanding of Chemistry Im actually majoring in chemistry and he leaves some important details out and he is not intelligent as he seems have a one on one conversation and everything he says is bias. If your looking for chem dont choose this lousy teacher.
He is the most laziest teacher I have met, doesnt show any respect I missed class because I got into a severe car accident and he dropped me for missing two weeks because I was in the hospital and he said he didnt care for my well being just wanted me in class.
Uncaring. Too strict
Uncaring, and treats his college students like high school students. Has no patience for teaching.
Good quality video lectures online. Loved being able to watch and rewatch them from home. Gives you all the tools needed to pass his class with an A or B, but you must study 3 hrs/day for the A. No surprise questions on exams. Attend CCC Conference and he'll tell you what to study. Strict. Don't be late to class and don't miss more than 1 class.
TJ is an amazing professor, he will go above and beyond for you but you need to ask. He can be intimidating but that is because he is weeding out the people who are willing to work for it to the people who think they deserve an A by just showing up. This is a college class and he treats it like one. Not easy but absolutely do able. Would recommend.
Professor Kennedy isnt a bad guy really, but I personally dont think hes a great teacher. I took his summer class (2018) and failed. No matter how much I studied and practiced, I failed every test. I shouldnt have taken a short class but at the same time I believe that if I had taken it with a different teacher I would have passed.
Mr. Kennedy may seem intimidating, but he was approachable and encouraged our class to ask questions (as ochem is a difficult subject). We had four test (in which one was take home) and though they weren't multiple choice, he wasn't a harsh grader. Lab was worth the most and he is VERY strict in lab. If you get kicked out once, there goes your A.
Strict but a good teacher if you get to know him. He grades fare and tells you what you need to know. Attend online conference, watch videos and study. Keep all your supplies in your bag at all times and follow the rules and you will have no problem.
Best teacher Ive taken so far out of 14. Hes the best. Dont expect an Easy pass. Makes you work for it but provides everything clues hints lectures and study test to help pass. Even took the time to make videos online that are very useful. If you dont study you dont pass. A true definition of a great teacher.
Will drop you if you are late 2x (literally). Will make you leave if you wear holes in your pants or open-toe shoes. WIll also make you leave if you forget your calculator or goggles and claims you missed class. Not helpful and lacks empathy. I have straight A's and am on the deans' list and now have a W on my transcript because of his intolerance.
It is college, not high school so the expectations are more. The first day of class, they clearly state, if you are not one to study or work hard, do not bother taking this class. I have never studied so hard in my life, luckily I got a A but I studied my butt off. If you don't do your homework, or study hard, don't bother taking this class.
I am sure these great reviews about him are probably himself bc Ive never met a student who liked him. Hes really abusive in a very subtle way. Im surprised He hasnt been fired or ended up on a viral post. Took chem with him failed. Took all my chemistry after that at another school and I have As from intro to chem allll the way to biochem!
This was a really tough course, as I took it fall 2020. There was little interaction with the instructor throughout the course. Grade was based off 5 tests and nothing else.
Hes a lousy teacher! Can not be late by a minute if you are 2 mins late he will tell you to get out you cant stay . Very inconsiderate . Video lectures doesnt give enough information expects you to do all the leaning on your own and only meets once a week. Never dropped a class but this will be my first !
While instructor seems to be interested in availability and assistance outside of classroom, this professor is a quintessential high school teacher. Uncaring of the fact that students are adults as well with jobs and other situations outside of his class. Work full time at odd shifts and end up 2 minutes late to class, get out.
Honestly as long as you show up and do the work, there is no way you won't pass. He gives great study guides for his exams and super awesome professor to learn from. He was a bit strict at first but lightens after awhile. He just wants to see you are putting the work into the class.
I see lots of negative reviews, but this is a college class. You need a daily schedule to study and be diligent, and you will pass. He responds to emails fairly quickly, and the exams are not intimidating as long as you do the study guide. Lectures are 2-3 hours long, so take hybrid with Negrete for lab. Do NOT come a second late for lab or exams.
My issue with TJ is the way he felt the need to humiliate anyone who asked questions or needed extra help. Chemistry is a difficult subject and any student who shows up and gives their best effort deserves a basic level of respect. I saw people give 100% effort still fail or barely pass because they had emergencies that caused them to miss class
I took TJ in the Spring. He is a no nonsense teacher. Get ready to learn and understand the content of the class. Dont be late for class and put forth the effort and youll pass. Great teacher! I would take him again! Keeps all his lectures up online for you to reference and is open to any and all questions.
If you are a parent regardless of your title, he will not work with you. He is inconsiderate and rude despite your valid reasons. If you are late, he will kick you out. Do not take his class! I am a straight A student and this is the first time that I had to drop a class.
He was very tough and could be pretty rude. I would not recommend this class. It was the worst class Ive ever taken.
Worst professor I've ever had. You can't miss 4 hrs of class, or you're dropped, states that class is 3 hrs if you miss 1 day & 1 hr then you're dropped. AND if you come to class a minute late, are missing any part of homework, safety goggles, calculator, ANYTHING for the day then you will not be allowed in the class.. that's your missed 3 hours.
You need to have ALL assignments before walking into class. If you walk in two minutes late he wont let you stay.
Don't get me wrong this professor is an excellent teacher, but his ways of not giving any student a chance to explain why they are two minutes late, or if their lab glasses are necessary if they forgot them at home or in their car is not fair. DO NOT BE LATE FOR THIS CLASS. No homework, no exam.
Would not recommend this teacher. He is belittling towards his students and not helpful. Whenever I asked him questions on something I did not understand, he would belittle me for not understanding. You also have to teach yourself everything in this class. I took this same class with another teacher in a shorter course and passed with an A.
The exams make up most of your grade and the knowledge you gain is not translated through the exams. Online Lecture videos are great A++ but the exams need to be changed. Fail even with a cheat sheet and a flash card makes no sense.
Complete all your homework, all of your exams. DO NOT MISS ONE EXAM or you will fail! Listen to the lectures and participate in the discussions and you will pass. Trust me this is all 100% required. This professor is the real deal and you need to do the work to succeed. It is not a hard course, just participate and you will be fine.
Very hands-off course on his end, you have to buy the approved lab manual (that he wrote). Graded on very few items and the only learning material provided is his 2+ hour lecture videos.
The videos we were forced to watch were always over 2 and a half hours and were very low quality.
I cried myself to sleep the whole semester, because of this class. I studied 4 hours every day and barely passed, due to his trick questions and hard problems. Chemistry tutoring is very effective, and would recommend it. Best of luck to his current students!
His videos are terrible and doesn't even really help with the homework. He wants us to do discussion problems, homework problems. textbook problems and the lab yet only grades us on the exams. There's 5 exams and those are the only things that will count to your grade. Terrible teaching ethics and heard he's worse in person, be careful, dont take!
Kennedy has some awesome prerecorded lectures for online and he explains things in a way that helps you understand the book. HW is not graded, but do it bc it helps a lot. Discussions are also not graded, but help with getting concepts. He's pretty hands off online & I liked his class.
Kennedy's CHEM100 is a challenging course, but using Unstuck study alongside the textbook and discussion sessions can help you succeed. The grading is heavily exam-focused, so studying diligently is key.
He made you purchase a book that he "helped" write that was not that great at explaining things. He required many things from the book and homework problems to be done but never checked to see if they were correct just if it was "done". You had to ask if he would look it over but always seemed to be irritated if we asked questions in class.
