took a summer school class, he is corney but very nice and not that hard as far as material. From what i remember he required internet assignments and a book review.
Excellent professor...he comes off really intimidating at first but he warms up. Follow his simple components plan and earn an "A" without taking the final! As long as you follow his very clear intructions, you'll do just fine! Do not hesitate to go ask him questions during his office hours.
great teacher! the first week will be overwhelming but after that it is the best class ever. take part in discusions, and study for the quiz.
One of the very best you will ever have. Take this class and you will learn something! He also teaches a religion class in the same format. Highly recommend it!

I took both of his main classes. the only reason he gets a 5 for easy is due to his very open and modern approach with teaching. you do as much or as little work as you like. if you're the type of person to slack off then his class isn't for you. If you really have a passion for the subject though he'll give you more avenues to explore.

HE IS VERY UNCLEAR ON HIS HOMEWORK, THE WORDING AND WHAT HE EXPECTS FROM YOU THREW THE HOMEWORK HE IS A HARD GRADER I DON'T PERSONALLY CARE FOR THE FACT THAT HE HAS YOU DO ALMOST 98% OF THE WORK OVER THE COMPUTER.
"Raise a hand take a stand" The class seemed boring, but I don't like online classes so I dropped.
eccentric- Very easy though. I slacked off like all hell and still got an A. He is so corny it actually becomes funny. If you go to class High... you'll die from laughing.

Eccentric, very helpful and very easy
One of the worst teachers I've ever had. He's tone is usually condescending, and his replies to online posts are usually sharp and blunt. He spends more time teaching grammar than religion. I got an A, but felt I learned little. His text book (that he wrote) is quite biased, in that it blurts out opinions in the midst of facts.
hmm....does worst teacher i've ever had say enough? this guy is terrible terrible terrible!!!!!!!
I LOVE TL, he's the greatest.you never wonder what's expected and prepare to work, but I got an "A" and didn't even have to take the final!
I only personally saw him two times so I can't really say anything about him as a person, or a teacher for that matter since I took the online class. He is pretty harsh on his responses to posts online, but overall, this class was way easy. Take the online class! Saves time, stress, etc. And, you don't have to deal with this guy if you hate him.
THIS PROFESSOR IS HARD TO UNDERSTAND.DOES NOT CLARIFY THINGS COMPLETLEY.THIS IS A PSCH CLASS NOT AN ENGLISH CLASS.
Great teacher! I love his grading system, it is very flexible.
I took him for psych and religion.. dont remember which.. a few years ago. at first i hated him because he is totally weird but seriously.. his classes are easy! they are set up for you to get an A and pick and choose what work you want to do! seriously take the online ones, theyre sooo easy!
I've taken him for religion and psych.... excellent teacher!!!! makes it fun, easy and understandable!!!!
makes the material fun and easy to retain
Professor Brink is a great teacher, he wants to see his students succeed and is extremely helpful.
Brink was awesome!
It was very hard to understand what he wanted. His grading is difficult one wrong grammar and it is a minus. I got 1/10 on my essay last time and I had all the subjects covered.
Was too critical. Wants it done his way and his way only. Teacher posted a lot of stuff to help on quiz's and final, but the tests were very in depth so you had to know the book almost word for word. very critical on writing assignments, you must have grammar perfect and in his format style and structure.
He has you use his own book which is somewhat opinionated. He is very strict on grammar and he takes of a point for every mistake you make. Wants his essays written a certain way in his own format. He is far to discouraging and instead of being helpful, it made me dislike the class and subject even more.
I felt like I was in a English 500 class instead of a Philosophy class
Brink is probably one of the most interesting individuals i've come across in my life. very animated, and downright humorous at times. he likes things done his way, but if you do them right, you'll get the grade you deserve.
Brilliant man. He has that classic intelligent professor on tv thing going. He is a great teacher and cares about teaching which I found refreshing. He IS very critical though. Sometimes I think he thinks he's teaching at an Ivy league school. Don't expect positive re-inforcement. Expect your mistakes to be the only thing he is really looking for.
Philosophy class? More like English class. He will strike points on every grammar, punctuation, that is "incorrect" according to his own bias opinion. I strongly do not recommend this teacher. He grades harsh.
Okay, for about the first two months that I was in his class I absolutely hated it. But, as time went on I really started to appreciate his way of teaching. The multiple options grading he uses in his class is AMAZING! I wish all teachers did this! Great class, great teacher!
HORRIBLE teacher!! Do not take this class unless you want to fail!!!!! He only looks for your mistakes, as little as a comma!! You will be to scared to learn worrying about the small things! He is also a total jerk, not helpful at all!! PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT take this class, you will end up dropping it for sure!! Don't waste your time or money!!!!!!
I took this class online and it is very time consuming but he is there to anwer ?'s. MUST do Posts to pass class
Had him for religion. Has a unique and easy grading system with many options. Had no problem getting an A. Online tests = open book/note. EASY. Quizzes are straight from the book, online posts = EASY with daily practice. Teacher helps you when u ask for it. He's funny too.
My first week into class and I hate it! Can't understand what he wants from you on the posts and all he wants to do is criticize every gramatic error you make rather than give advice on what you did wrong with the post. This is psych, not a damn english class!!! REDICULOUS, DO NOT TAKE! Supposed to be a 3 unit class and it's harder than Micro (5)!
A great teacher who educates students about the topic well.
I have taken his PSYCH 101 and 111 class and got A's in both. Personally he is a good guy, he has very fair grading but one of his nithces are that you must have good grammar! Otherwise forget about it. If you have good grammar it is an Easy A, E-A-S-Y! People who complain are the people who are unwilling to do the light work load.
I took Brink last semester for Religion. It's an interesting class but its incredibly time consuming because of his numerous mandatory blackboard postings. I found that he graded harshly. But he definitely pushes his students to think outside the box.
Brink is definitely a different kind of professor. On the one hand, he is extremely helpful and clear on his instructions. On the other hand, he is real critical of how he wants people to speak and write. Overall, I would say he's a good teacher but you will have to do a little work to get the grade.
he is terrible...the worst teacher ive had. worse than my english teacher is about grammer. he schould be teaching english. he grades very hard and never has anything nice to say. he even tells you upfront that most of the students will not recieve good grades due to his grading. i had to drop. horrible
TL Brink will make you work for your grade just like any college class. To be honest, you can learned quite a bit of discipline from taking his class, because of his standard on our work. He could be a little more organized and clear on his paper work on Blackboard, but if you see him face to face, he will explain everything to you clearly.
Very helpful and easy to understand. A little hard.
He wrote the textbook for the class so its very hard to learn from a different point of veiw. The positive aspect of his textbook is... it's provided at no cost. I didnt personally like his teaching style and I had a hard time learning due to lack of intrest. The book runs on and on. Nice guy though. He expects that you put forth many office visits
I have love/hate feelings on this class If you are willing to do the work it is a pretty easy A, I took his online class and you had to post everyday, it often infuriated me when points would be taken away because of grammer not philosophy I also think that Brink did not know that typing in all caps is yelling, he is very nice in person though
Amazed by his intellect & frustrated by his intellect! Took class online, but met in person several times (expected for an A or B). He does have high standards, and is a stickler in some aspects. All & all- will provide you with a great opportunity to learn and achieve- but you have to do the work and adhere to deadlines to be successful with him.
i took the on campus class. he is very strict and super smart. i definitely learned a lot in this class. mid term and final were pretty easy. book project was the most stressful, almost had to drop because i thought i would fail the class but i stuck around and glad i did because i got an A. just do the work and follow exact directions
This teacher is absolutely afful. He is English freak. Any little mistake you would do in English part will lower your grade in his class. I never had such problems with English teachers. He is very strict and does not follow his syllabus. His grading system is not clear. I probably will drop his class.I would not recommend him to anyone.
This class was super hard! Took it online. He makes you post every single day if you want to get an A in the class. He also marks you off for every little thing and he has a long list of words you cant use in his class! Its pretty ridiculous! Its almost like he TRIES not to give you a good grade! Try to avoid this class!
HORRIBLE!!! I've never been so stressed out in a class ever. He is horrible. Super hard class. Not nice...Mean old man. His online class was horrible. I had to drop 3 weeks before the class was over, and take the class alll over again
Worst class i have taken at Crafton.I took it online and it was miserable. First of all it was so annoying you have to do a post every single day and then he will read it like a crazy english teacher. Nothing is good enough. He gives you a list of words your not even allowed to use. Just dumb. Not worth taking
I enrolled for the Rel-101 class for spring 2011, but after receiving his crazy emails with you tube videos of rules to follow for the class, I dropped the class before it began. He sounds very strict and and insane with english and writing rules. He thinks it is an english writing class instead of a religion class. Impression- DIFFICULT& STRANGE.
I was enrolled for philosophy online and I completely agree with the last person who posted on here. I too dropped. His rules are insane, and I felt I would learn nothing about philosophy in his class. It is all about grammar and punctuation. If he wants us to learn how to write correctly, than he should be teaching ENGLISH!!!! Take someone else!!!
I was lucky enough to take Dr. Brink for several classes .....I found him and his lectures very interesting. I was able to visit his office at any time for help...He was clear about what was expected from students and assignments were explained thoroughly ..I plan to enroll in his class again this summer...
When I first started the class I was worried after I read the reviews he was getting but honestly, he really is a great teacher everything is clearly stated as to what he expects, he is always around to answer questions, and he really does know what he is talking about. It isn't an easy class but if you put in the work you will do just fine
I am taking the online class. He is inconsistent in his grading policies and contradicts himself at will. If you point it out this will negatively affect your grade. He tries to couch his inconsistencies to put students off from challenging him. I would not suggest taking any of his classes.
I tried giving this teacher every chance, but he leaves you no way to disagree. If you do, your a whiner in his book.
A lot of work, but relatively easy. Just put in the effort and you will pass. This class is not for anyone looking for an easy A.
This was the hardest 3 unit class I have ever taken at Crafton. It is a lot of work, but if you follow closely to the syllabus and study for quizzes and tests, it is possible to get an A. I wouldn't recommend taking this class online. Brink expects a lot of rules to be followed and it can be overwhelming.
Professor Brink taught me introduction to Psychology (Psych 100) last fall. He is a very good professor and if you are a student or going to be a student in his class, just simply do what he asks and you will pass his class with flying colors!
Great Professor, if you do what is asked you will learn. He will expect you to write correctly, he expects high performance and grades for it. His rules are completely reasonable. I worked hard, got the A, he rewards hard work and the slackers need to go back to high school!
Treats students as if they were 5 years old. Talks in baby voices, uses goofy props in class. I was offended by this professor. This is college not kindergarten. Needs to learn to treat others with respect.
One of the hardest classes I had taken for a 3 unit course. I am the kind of guy that usually gets straight A's, but this class I feel he punishes you for a good score. A 9/10 is full credit, while 10/10 is reserved for mind boggling works. An A is possible, but I would say work as hard as you can because I got a B by missing an A by a few points
He was a great and entertaining teacher, yet a little too blunt and rude at times. At first I wanted out of his class, but realized how valuable his lectures were. Got 1% away from a B in his class, and I know I could've got a 'B' if I studied harder on my first test. Overall, I'd recommend.
I?m not a Brink fan, but his course was valuable, and not too difficult. Brink has a lot of rules, which can seem daunting at first. However, if you look past his ?because I said so? method of teaching, the material covered by the course is interesting. Also, he offers multiple options grading, so the student chooses which assignments to focus on.
Dr. Brink is a cool professor like most people says he is a little strict but as class progresses you come to find out that its not that bad dont expect easy A. has you meet in his office so you can keep on top of all your stuff which helped me. learned so much from his class and now come to really appreciate his way of teaching
hes funny and always has an interesting lecture. he is old and has been around so he knows what hes talking about. but sometimes it seems like he tries to find problems with your work so it feels like you cant win. maybe he does this if you dont go to his office hours like he recommends. hes a good person, but strict professor.
Dr. Brink is the most concise and the most precise professor I have ever met in a total of 17 years of school. He is extremely helpful if asked. If you want to learn and never forget, this is the instructor for that. Hard work, lifetime skill. The best of the best.Thank you, Dr. Brink!
sets a great study program up for his students who want to really learn or get high grades. Loved him!
This online class is hard. You have to be on top of your grammar when you do posts. He is very critical of your work. I seriously tried and got so frustrated. One of the most frustrating classes of my life. If you aren't good with paying attention to the tiniest details DON'T take this class!!!
He is amazing! We don't get any homework, all we have to do is make sure we have an excellent project. I look forward to his class. He's an extremely clear and concise professor. I recommend.
Dr. Brink cares about his students! Wants you to succeed if you put in the effort. He's not easy but he is fair. You will work for your grade. There are possiblities for extra credit. The best thing you can do is follow the rules & GO TO HIS OFFICE! He loves the students & loves to teach. Participation will help get the A. from Mr. M. Salerno :-)
very interactive. can be harsh. does not tolerate pleasantries during class. is very particular about grammar principals which at times seems a bit much. many online components of the class, would be simpler if we just did that stuff in class. entire class time is dedicated to lecture. overall, interesting class but could be more stimulating.
His online class is doable and easy if you work on it everyday. Only takes 15 mins. He lets you determine how you want to add up your grade. Just post everyday, do weekly quizzes, corrections and the final. Everything is open note and he is there to help you if you need it.
This professor is happy all the time and loves to see students succeed. While he is humorous, he is also very strict, especially when it comes to proper grammar and usage of certain words. If you do the assignments correctly, follow his rules and syllabus, and visit his office frequently, you will find this class challenging but also fun!
Prof Brink is a wonderful teacher but visit his office hours as much as possible! He will help you with ANYTHING if you take the time to go to his office and talk to him. Go early though, there is normally a line
Dr. Brink is a great professor. I learned so much in his class.
Intentions to succeed are known, but grammatically, this Professor becomes petty over such details rather than your understanding of the course. As an online class, I can't come to office hours (which is why I am taking it online). I learned more about what words not to use in his class than I did about Freud, Kohlsberg, Erikson, and others.
He is crazy at first, but once you get used to the way he likes things he is awesome. Very helpful, will meet with you and explain what he expects.
A little strange but really helpful. He wants his students to be successful and he will make time to talk to you. His office hours are varied (could work for any schedule). Just make sure you go to his office a few times throughout the semester and you'll pass! I recommend his online classes!
You can tell that Brink knows a lot about what he is talking about. But on the downside he grades your class dicussion based off of his opinion mostly, cutting you off if you use a word he does not like. The class is more about learning how to say things the way he likes them to be said rather than learning about psychology.
Brink offers two options for grading. Do your work and post with good grammar and you will pass. Participation is key, so no slackers or sloppy writers.
He knows his material but grades hard. Makes people participate even if heshe doesn't want to. Makes a research paper like 10 pages long. Only like 3 things do throughout the semester.
DON'T TAKE HIM. I dropped the class right after I read the syllabus. He's known for being really hard. Do yourself a favor and don't even think about taking his class.
I really liked him despite what others say. Brink will make you learn whether you want to or not. Honestly, if you go to his classes you'll pass the tests. Thats not the hard part. MUST CHECK EMAIL DAILY! He sends out essay directions through email and gives you a date to send your completed one back. Cant be late. Final was easy, just go to class
Professor Brink has the reputation of being somewhat of a weirdo. People explain that he is "too much". I thoroughly enjoyed his style and method for learning. His personality and character was shocking at first but effective in the end. I definitely recommend Professor Brink. Great teacher.
I took Professor Brink for psychology and this religion course. I have said it before and I'll say it again: he is an excellent professor and knows how to make material interesting. I definitely recommend him.
Dr. Brink will make you earn your grade. This isn't going to be an easy class, but it can be done. He makes you think way past your comfort zone. Use his office hours that he sets up. He is the most helpful professor I have had. He wants you to learn and is willing to help you out. Don't procrastinate your projects. Do them early and get help.
Awesome dude, would highly recommend to anyone. Tough on in class participation, and you better do your readings. Has a great sense of humor and he has amazing stories to tell.
Let me just say I do not recommend this professor. He is tough and yes he does have office hours but I don't see what for. He makes you feel stupid and as if you can never achieve his knowledge. He is rude and won't let you state your own opinion. I get along with every teacherprofessor I have ever had but this guy is something else. He's rude!
He is known for being a hard teacher, well he is and isn't. Essays aren't really essays they are more like answering questions. Class participation isn't too important but try. He is very helpful during office hours so go to them this is a must! This class is not hard just do your work, have him review your essays, and you will pass.
Professor Brink, in my opinion, should have been an English professor instead of a Psychology professor. He is too concerned about his students writing properly rather than being focused on if his students actually understand the material. I am a Psychology major not an English major. I find his class quite frustrating.
Dr. Brink is brilliant and he gives every opportunity for you pass his class. He will never give you a grade, you must earn it and work hard and pay attention to his lectures. He is a very encouraging professor. Utilize his office hours and take advantage of his knowledge let him help, its well worth it. I learned so much from him.
This instructor is a joke! I've taken plenty of online classes and all he does is complain about how not to email him. All he cares about is grammer and statistics which are 2 totally different classes from psychology. He's going to make you do a statistics project and post a discussion "everyday" like his class is the only one your taking.
DO NOT TAKE THIS INSTRUCTOR! You will regret every moment of your precious time wasted when your listening to him complain on YOUTUBE , in a monotone voice, about what not to do in his class. He has a tendency of down talking his students, even by video. He grades grammer harder than an English teacher who's job is to teach students how to write.
I dropped this class, I did not like the way he taught at all. I was very confused with his teaching and I would not recommend him to anyone. He also made the students feel as if they were stupid. He was so confusing. Do not take. Please note this is my first class I have dropped.
I learned nothing about religion in Professor Brink's religion class. Instead I learned that Professor Brink has no business teaching any subject except English since that is all he cares about. I never received feedback about the content of my work, only condescending comments about minor grammar or punctuation errors. Avoid at all costs!!!
He has zero respect regarding other's opinions. If you don't understand grammar, more importantly apostrophes, don't take his class. It is against his morales, I suppose, to say religion, faith, God, etc., so you need to find different ways of saying all of that in a RELIGION class. He expects essays, essentially, daily. He's very disrespectful.
He was a very helpful if you went to him during his office hours. He even gives you answers sometimes. His lectures are pretty lengthy but just try to pay attention and you'll do okay. If you miss a class, he has a lot of resources you can use to catch up so it's very useful. Beware of you grammar and writing in general!! Overall, he's alright
he gives you a list of words you're not permitted to use and every time you use them he takes points away. His main concern is email etiquette and grammar. I don't recommend taking him unless you want to feel shot down and stressed out the entire semester.
Okay, Professor Brink is an extremely tough grader. If you use certain words or mess up on your grammar he'll deduct points from your essays and posts. However, if you do as I did and abide by his rules the class is actually pretty easy and I received an A. Post on the boards everyday and make sure you correct your posts before submitting them..
T.L. Brink is the perfect professor. He is knowledgable of the subject material, establishes realistic and achievable passing standards, and is more than available for questions. If students are willing to do the work and follow some basic grammar rules, they will easily pass. Participate enough and you might not even have to take the final!
It was extremely hard to take this class and enjoy. The way he grades and makes you participate made it hard for me(shy) to learn properly. He speaks his opinion and seems to forget that his opinion should be kept to himself. Quizzes happen daily and the big test at the end is what your grade will be. Trees aren't important to him( print a lot out)
Religion, Philosophy, and Ethics are a second in his course. Respect, Dedication, and Comprehension are a first. You will learn how to be coherent and direct in your vocabulary by the time you ace his semester. Some say he is stubborn in his opinion, but he is open to a tough argument. Challenge him and you will be able to challenge anyone.
At first, I thought Brinks class was hard and his teaching methods disconnected. Your grade doesn't depend so much on your knowledge of the topic (until the test) but rather your grammar and presentation of it. Felt like an English class. Lectures were long/ boring, take notes. He does give you all the materials/info you will need to pass.
This teacher definitely cares about grammar. I would proofread my online daily posts 5 times before submitting. If you forget a comma or spell a word wrong you will lose points. I missed some assignments and quizzes because the due dates were scattered. My advice: proofread, do the daily posts and mark all of the due dates in a planner.
Beginning the class, it seems like a lot of work. Daily discussions, weekly quizzes, and a paper every couple of weeks. But ended up not being too hard.
Dr. Brink's assignments and high expectations for students may seem overwhelming at first, but it's really not bad. I only advice students to stay in contact with him for paper reports and projects because his feedback is profoundly helpful. Also, Dr. Brink may be strong on grammar and spelling, but I thank him for reminding us to be proper.
Clear grading system, gives you options on what you're actually being graded on. I suggest doing as many assignments as possible so you give yourself the option to drop your worst grades. He tries to grade so all of his students can pass, but he makes you work for it. You can miss a class or two and pass with an A but I wouldn't suggest it. Caring.
Terrible teacher!! If you want a professor that focuses more on grammar than actual psychology then go for it! Discussion boards are a total hassle because you have to post 50 good ones, 9 being the highest score and grammar corrections affect this!!
Easily my favorite professor. He has tons of office hours and is willing to help you with anything, as long as you take initiative and come see him. I was in the honors section that required a project and he walked me through every step. Yes, he's picky with grammar; he wants you to be clear and concise. Other than that, class is not too difficult.
Dr. Brink is the most difficult professor I've ever taken, however he is without a doubt the most influential. What I respect most about him is his passion for teaching and unbiased judgment of students. He will make you work hard for your grade but will be there for you every step of the way if needed. A truly brilliant and unforgettable professor
This online class is not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. All you have to do is post to forums everyday (super easy, most are just reflections), do the 10 quizzes (open book and notes), and the project is optional. Final is a replica of all the quizzes you took. You don't need to textbook at all. If you have common sense, you're fine.
He had a video which very clearly shows provocative images of women, which were not contributing to the lesson at all. He claims that students who are supposed to be on medication, and are currently not, will fail. He also very clearly stated that if you are dealing with an addiction, you will fail his class.
If given the option for another prof, take it. Super confusing grading criteria. The beginning of this course was pretty stressful; gives you 100+ pages on what he expects from you. Very strict when it comes to grading. Quizzes and abstracts are pretty easy. At least one optional research project due at the end of semester. Expects you to come in.
Brink is one of the best professors there is. Cast judgment aside, ask for help, and utilize office hours and resources he supplies. You will pass. This class is not easy, I passed with a B, but considering the difficulty I feel like I got an A.
DO THE DISCUSSION BOARDS AND QUIZES AND PRETTY WELL ON THE ESSAYS AND YOU SHOULD PASS. HE GIVES YOU A LOT OF OPPORTUNITY TO PASS.
Taking his online class and his grading criteria is confusing. His discussions will close halfway through the week. Felt so far behind just in the second week because everything is confusing. He also encourages correcting grammar errors, etc on other students' discussions which I found annoying.
Professor Brink is an amazing intelligent instructor. He truly makes you think outside the box and expects college level writing skills. He made me grow so much academically! I took his class online and he was easily accessible if needed for questions. Go in and use his office hours, he is a big help!
Grading is a bit odd, but understandable after a while. He is more than willing to help if you need it. Grading on assignments is very tough. I won't lie, his class is stressful, but one of the best learning experiences I've ever had.
He is very animated in his mannerisms. However, it also comes across as though he regards students as kindergarteners. I learned not to ask questions because he doesn't really answer them. If an SI session is offered, go! You will need that more than you need to actually go to his lectures.
Good overall.
I had Brink for both online religion 100 and online psych 101. If you read the syllabus and follow the rules youll have a great semester. He is a tough grader, but once you get the hang of his system youll do fine. I ended with a B in religion and A in psych. He lets you make corrections on other students posts to receive extra credit points.
Have not completed the course yet but so far, its awful. When emailing him, he is EXTREMELY rude and unhelpful. In interactions he is extremely condescending.. Yes, the class is hard but as of now my biggest issue is his rudeness and the way he conducts himself.
In his psych class at the moment and while it is a hard class, he is very helpful. He also makes himself available to call and responds to emails quickly. So far its not THAT bad, if you work hard you will do fine in this course.
Dr. Brink is a dope Professor, he is up to date with his technology and gives clear instructions on everything. He is prompt with grading and responding to emails, I don't know if he has a life because he's literally on Canvas at all hours. He also allows you to pick how hard you want to work with his grading systems.
Professor brink is very rude. His stuff on canvas is very disorganized and difficult to understand. He cares more about spelling than teaching psychology. He treats students like 1st graders. Dont expect for him to tell you what you did wrong.
I didn't particularly like his online class, I ended up dropping it the first time before the withdraw date. His online layout is very confusing, and I got lost. Couldn't figure out how to do the assignments; they definitely seemed harder than they should have been. He is also very much a grammar Nazi, and has a list of things not to use.
If you are new to online courses, wait before you take this class. He does give you every chance to earn an A. Hate tests? You can do writing prompts every day and the project. Hate projects? You can do the prompts and the final. Don't have a lot of time? You can do just the project and final. Solid professor.
Brink is really funny and amazing at what he does. I never participated much in class but still felt engaged in there. His grading isn't hard and his system is awesome and gives you TONS of opportunities for an A if you really want it. i missed 5 classes because of personal issues and still got the A as a math major. That should tell you everything
Brinks has a Juno email account that does not accept attachments. So you have to copy and paste your essays into the body of an email. Formatting goes right out the window and he hammers you on spelling, grammar and punctuation. He has high expectations of students but does not give clear directions or feedback.
While Brink may be a hard grader, he is very well versed in both Psych and Religions. If you're looking for a middle of the road class that will get you your credits to graduate, go for it.
I dropped immediately. I've never seen a more disorganized online class.
Professor Brink's syllabus was a little scary looking at first because of how specific everything is, but as time went on, it actually isn't that bad. As long as you follow the criteria outlined then you will be ok. You can choose to either take the final or do a project. Make sure to keep up with the daily discussion boards.
His online class is very confusing . Must keep track of your own grade. He is very tough on grading but great teacher when it comes to his discussions. If he was more organized and clear with how he grades I would recommend.
Dr. Brink is a wonderful Professor. I took his online course and received an A. If you follow his instructions and do the work you should have no problems. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS!
Brink is a solid online professor. He utilizes Google docs and responds to emails quickly. You should meet with him in person or on the phone if you can. You can choose what assignments to do to earn your grade. If you are confused by his grading system, watch his videos. 101 is harder than 100 or 111, but it's still very possible to earn an "A".
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSORS ONLINE COURSE. I always just go with the flow of however professors have their classes set up and theres never a problem. He expects a ton of extra work in which you will not even get credit for at the end. The material of this class is easy but his set up will risk your grade. Take someone else.
This is how he grades: choose categories of which the final percentage will add up to 100. finals (050), prelim test (010), midterm (010), paper (0 or 10 each), posting (0 for 09 postings, 10 for 10+ postings, 20 for 20+ postings and 30 for 30+ postings, quizzes (sum of best ten). if u fail something, he gives u the option of counting it as a 0
This class was interesting. Took for summer. Be sure to post daily as much as possible. Score high on quizzes and make corrections what able to on other classmates posts. Be particular in your post and always make sure to use the correct terminology. Unusual concept at first but I enjoyed it after.
Despite my class being an online class, the videos he provided in his discussions are old so I know it's fairly the same. If you make EVEN ONE little mistake, expect to be docked points. There were 13 quizzes for each chapter, a midterm and a final and we had to post in the discussions everyday. The only time I got tens were on my own with quizzes.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!! This teacher is more concerned about making you write and talk like a scholar rather then actually teaching Religion. If you want to be corrected on EVERY sentence you write rather then the actual assignment then he's your teacher. I feel this class has nothing to do about the actual course. You will FAIL
He will yell at you in all caps LIKE THIS or T-H-I-S. His policy is something like "if you disagree with me, don't even bother bringing it up. It's like beating a dead horse". I got a good grade because I had to post every single day (yes, weekends too) and not question him. I got knocked down many points for ridiculous things. Don't even bother.
I took this online course over summer. The class might be confusing at first, but if you do read everything thoroughly, it's all clear. Those who complain about the layout of his online information are the ones that probably didn't read everything. It's a straightforward class; you read the material, write essays and do exams. The grading is fair.
This professor is horrible! he will write in all caps tell you its horrible and move on to the next person. if your expecting to get feedback in a positive way and in a professional way then seek a different professor. This professor also uses his own book and will do anything in his power to fail you. dont waste your time or money on this guy.
By far one of the rudest teacher I have ever taken a class with. This teacher will tear you apart in every single discussion in the most brutal way. I would not recommend to anyone if there are other professors take them instead, do not wast your time with Brink.
When doing a discussion board he marks your grade as zero if you do the same question as someone else. Essays are done on an email and if you do not do as said you get a zero. cant use certain words/grammar errors or hell mark points off your essays. You have to use a specific font and word style. He has very specific and ridiculous rules.
He has ridiculous rules. He does not create a learning environment, he is there to point out any flaw and error he could possibly find in all capital letters. Do not take this professor!
Brink is a hard professor, but in a caring way. He obviously cares for his students. He is hard on you so you will succeed in your career. Make sure to triple check your grammar or you will be docked points. You can choose what you want to do for the points. 900+ is an A, 800+ is a B, and so on. He can be seen as harsh, but he wants you to succeed.
He decided that all 5 of my papers were NOT ACCEPTABLE because of either a misspelling in the title or telling me the prompt was something else after he had already given a prompt. He claims you need to check Blackboard but we don't use blackboard any more and that you will get an automatic F if you don't use it. Super Grammer Nazi.
Difficult and quite confusing if you have never taken an online course before. I would suggest taking an easier online course before his.
In the beginning, I honestly hated him and the class so much. . I got D on my midterm but after that i started paying more attention. I posted everyday on discussion board and I ended up getting a high A on my final & in the class. I recommend people to take him because he is a GREAT teacher, you jus need to be open minded and follow directions (:
Dr. Brink is the reason your English teacher told you that you need to know how to write in order to succeed in college. Very meticulous and has rules for everything. You may be offended from time to time by the way he speaks/writes to you, but stick with it; be an adult about it. He is very kind and helpful if you put in the effort. Great teacher
Don't take the online class, he uses a secondary backup website which is confusing and has more writing rules than an English professor.
For the minimum psychology needed to transfer to a UC or CSU, Brinks class was pretty overkill with the difficulty. He is extremely meticulous about grammar and will most definitely roast students on the public discussions if they do not meet his made up rules of grammar. Is in general pretty harsh to the students. I was on the Brink of dropping
Really strict with grammar, will easily give you a zero on a discussion board. First day of class theres a hundred question test. A lot of work, would recommend taking someone else if you have the chance.
I love the way he calculates your grade but it doesnt matter because all of his critiques on your work are so harsh that you dont actually learn anything, you just feel bad about your work. He doesnt give clarification on his assignments and then docks you points after he admits he was not clear enough. Very disappointing, expected more from him
Brink first came off as a hard teacher with all his various grammar rules and email rules but once you get the hang of it everything is easy. You can choose what assignments you want to do, final, midterms, and essays are all optional. Just make sure you have enough points to pass the class. There are multiple opportunitie to earn points everyday.
I was honestly scared to take Dr. Brink class, but I took him in the fall of last year and he was a piece of cake. Just read the instructions and you'll pass his class. I found his lectures to be informative and yes, I was that student who didn't follow his instructions and I can see how it comes off harsh, but I didn't let that get to me.
It is true what the others say about Professor Brink, he is very particular about grammar. If you want to be a professional one day, wouldn't you want to know the proper way to speak and write? I learned so much from him and he goes out of his way to help you with projects. Other students who complain can't handle constructive criticism.
It is unbelievable the number of stringent rules this professor has. From not accepting multiple discussion board answers because they are not a "day" apart, from him choosing his most critiqued answer as the one he chooses to accept. It seems as though the positive reviews written below are by t. brink himself to make his class look better.
There aren't enough words to describe how much this professor sucks. He is so strict on every word that you type it's like we're in an English class. And his responses are so rude!! I saw he gave no points to a student because her response was "too similar" to another students??? HE IS AWFUL DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
I though I was taking a Psych class but instead it feels like I am taking an English class. He is super strict on everything. Grades very hard on discussions and essay questions. If you have a similar post on a discussion as someone else you will get graded as a 0! His Canvas modules are a little hard to understand sometimes.
Brink is an obsessive compulsive, control freak of a person. The amount of rules he created for this course are like nothing I've ever seen. There was an entire module dedicated to rules for the course and a 162 page document dedicated to email instructions. If you don't follow the instructions to PERFECTION, he wont reply and you will receive 0s.
This course has definitely prepared me for university level courses, as he makes sure to implement the importance of staying on topic, being direct, and FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS; It may have been lengthy and detailed, but not difficult. Do the daily discussions, correct classmate's grammar for extra credit, go over essays with him, &DO ALL ESSAYS! :)
Horrible. His grading is RIDICULOUS you receive zeros on assignments if they are not perfect to HIS eyes so he nitpicks at every little thing to reduce points, his teaching consists of watching outdated youtube videos. It feels more like an English class. His grading sucks. Offers help but still, overall terrible, so just take anyone else.
This professor is the worst. Ruined my interest in psychology. Gives terrible feedback and will give you a zero for having too similar of a topic to another student. Will also give you a zero if you do the work and Misunderstand the concept. Absolutely terrible
English is my 2nd language (my 1st is Arabic) and I misspelled one word, he gave me a 0 for that. Has an impossible list of instructions on how to email him. If you miss 1 rule, he will toss your email in the trash and not respond. I truly feel that this professor, while he has the qualifications, should not be teaching anything. Terrible teacher.
This teacher has so many rules and restrictions that makes it ridiculously hard to even send him an email. He has lists, PowerPoints, and graphs of words, subjects, and rules that you have to use in class. He's extremely picky when grading and gives out more zeros to students than helpful feedback. There's so many tests and assignments given.
He is the worst professor I've ever had in my entire life. He has so many rules that doesn't even make any sense and he's making everyone fail and not willing to help anyone with what they/re struggling at, his responses are so rude and he will grade your whole paper zero if you have 1 mistake, don't take his class take someone else.
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE. There are many things wrong with this class, here's some of them(word limit): 162 page document JUST rules for emailing him. No communication. Grading system makes no sense. All your assignments count but they don't, only your top assignments count toward your grade but not really, you can retake quizzes but not really.
Awful teacher, doesn't actually teach a single thing except how to search for very specific requirements and rubrics that are hidden within other random assignments and discussion that aren't required to do for a grade. Don't take this class if you care for your mental health as he doesn't explain why you're wrong as he gives you zero after zero.
He is very straight forward. Do not make excuses for your short comings. Follow the guidelines to his work and you will pass. Very knowledgeable and willing to help his students. Meet during office hours if you need help.
8 discussions the first week. 7 per week after that. Discussions not in to-do list due to lack of due dates. Makes them difficult to find. Email responses are accusatory. Won't answer if email is in a format different than the one he requires. Syllabus is confusing. Refuses to use canvas for emails, syllabus, grades, etc. Many links/videos instead
he is an ok teacher but be warned its not easy to pass his class
Professor Brink's class is pretty tough, with strict grading and lots of busy work. However, if you stay on top of things and use study tools like unstuck study, you can succeed. Just be prepared to follow instructions carefully and don't slack off.
harsh grader. dont like her
At first, the class is overwhelming, with the amount of material to read through (e.g., a 200 page syllabus, email rules, etc). However, the first assignments ease you in gradually. This class can be infuriating, but it is equally as easy to succeed. Do the daily postings, quizzes, and exams, and it is virtually impossible to get less than an "A."
Daily discussion posts throughout the semester are ridiculously tedious
Amazing professor, always helpful and available at any time. I took psychology 100 as well and he was Amazing.
Great class on learning how to write a research paper. He communicates through email and allows you to sign up for phone call office hours. I'd suggest to meet with him at least once a week to make sure you're on the right track with your project. It seems intimidating at first but it's a good informative class and he is very helpful.
I took Mr. Brink for Psychology online, and honestly, he was not bad at all. If you are okay with writing one sentence responses to daily discussions, you will be fine. Good grades on tests matter, and get a good score on the final. Overall, easy A and very informative.
I so badly wish I could post photos with this review. There are 29 links, documents, assignments, texts, and 2 quizzes in the "Start Here" module. His Canvas is set up so incoherently, and the email rules are very real and very dumb. Today was my second day in class and I plan on dropping it tomorrow.
if you're terrified reading these reviews, don't worry. the syllabus is ridiculous but you can still get an A. complete the discussion posts EVERYDAY until you have enough. ace quizzes and tests, use proper email format and contact him to make sure your points are heading towards the grade you want.
My initial impression of the professor was that they were very unorganized and wanted this class look as scary as possible. The worst canvas shell I have ever seen incredibly overwhelming. 50+ easy discussions but none labeled with a due date so you have to go through each to find when they're due and they're scrambled. The worst email rules ever.
He is an insanely odd man that should retire. But it is possible to pass this class although it can seem overwhelming at first. I too, thought I wouldn't get an A, but do the discussions everyday and ace quiz/test. Honestly don't rely on him for anything he isn't much help.
Honestly, Professor T.L. Brink makes things way harder than they need to be. His teaching style is super outdated, and he doesn't communicate well at all. It feels like he's completely out of touch with how students learn now. At this point, it might just be time for him to retire. So annoying as a student.
Very confusing and not much feedback offered
Brink throws you in (choose your grading plan, external drive w/notes+readings, a big module to review. However, I appreciate that he provides notes, term lists, and Q&A slides for exams, which makes the course more manageable. I did not learn a single thing in this course! The discussion board topics are so random -you have to do em daily :(
This was an online course. You have DAILY discussions, you do. You are graded on basically nothing, so try on your discussion posts. You have weekly quizzes, with lots of reading. He has you download a textbook. You have weekly vocab and weekly readings. Ridiculous email rules and never clearly answers your questions. I basically taught myself.
