class was ok sometimes a little dull. marks fair know specific examples.
prof. sperlich is a stud.
Great prof. A recommendation to all students. His classes are both interesting and challenging. And he's hot, what more could you ask for.
I love this class on material culture it's awesome. My favorite class. Tobias is hilarious, his lectures are so interesting. I love this class. Great prof. I would reccomend him to anyone.
Very good professor - very interesting and entertaining class.

Tobias makes class very interesting. He is very good at explaining the material, and his tests are very fair. Pretty cute too :)
Love, Love, Love Prof Sperlich's class. He is very nice and makes class fun. Class consists of chapter quizzes and two mid-terms. Quiz are easy if you read the test and the mid-terms are a little bit harder than the quizzes. There is NO FINAL, which is always good! So easy if you just want a credit :)
Great teacher! Helpful and wants to see all his students succeed. Tobias goes beyond lecturing; Tobias intertwines his anthropology fieldwork with the textbood, helping his students visualize cultural diversity and similarities. I highly recommend him. His T.A was awsome too, both were always available to help you understand the course material.
Gold! Go to class, sit there and absorb info! Great prof!
Prof. Sperlich is a great teacher. His class is interesting, he knows his stuff, and its easy. Can't wait to take another class of his. He ain't bad on the eyes either...
Professor Sperlich is one of those rare instructors that allows thier students the freedom to be creative, independent thinkers. He is willing to see arguments or debates from all sides of the issues. His teaching style is informal and friendly and one that encourages participation. He is by far the best instructor in the department.
Through out my stay at the University of Regina, Tobias is by far the extremely best professor; the University is very lucky to have such a passionate teacher as Tobia. He is dedicated to both his profession and his students. He knows how to interact with his students, drawing their attention- students want to participate. He is a must have.
Overall a good prof. However, the answers he is looking for on his tests have nothing to do with the question. Be prepared to learn alot about homosexuals in other cultures, it tends to be the main theme of his teaching. Also he doesn't seem to be a large fan of Canada.
Tobias is a delightful, helpful, and well educated instructor, who brings his willingness to share his knowledge, helping you understand both anthropology, and how to do well at University.
Tobias was a good prof. Alot of the content came right out of the text so it made studying easy. The tests were mainly multiple choice and he marked fairly. I ended up with a 90-something in the class and I only went half of the time. He shows movies though and does test you on the content.
multiple choice midterms.............. NO FINAL woot!

I went into ANTH thinking it would suck! Prof Sperlich proved me wrong and at the same time the class was super easy. No final, just quizes and 2 mindterms. Read what you are suppose to and you will be set. There was an extra assignement at the end for people who needed a boost. Love the prof. Class was so easy. If you need a class take this one!
I ended up missing a midterm and a quiz being in the hospital and he was really good about it. He let me do lots of extra credit and im still doing great in the class.
I took this class as my last 100-level elective and I loved it. Great prof with interesting stories and random knowledge. Just listening to him speak is enjoyable. Gotta love the accent!
Interesting material, multiple choice exams, no final and that accent what more can i say? This man is hot and intelligent and definitely knows how to teach!
This prof is amazing!Mult. choice tests, no final!! 2 midterms, 2 quizzes, 2 pop quizzes. What more could you ask for? His lectures are interesting, and his accent is great. He seems like a very nice guy. If you need an extra elective that's easy, I suggest this to anyone!
He is quite possibly the best anthro prof that i have had the privilege of learning from. He appreciates the point you are making, and doesnt focus on how you are making it.
You can definitely learn a lot in this class! It's quite straight forward, so there are no surprises on midterms or quizzes! He willing to discuss things in the class, especially when they further interest! Watch out though, he speeds through those slides!
Has an attendance policy he doesn't enforce per se, but readings are different than the lectures, so do them and attend class. Speeds through the Powerpoint. He missed an awful lot of classes this term and was often late (he had ANTH 100 right before us. :) )
Easy prof, no final, easy tests and quizzes, made anthropology interesting for me
Pretty good prof. Doesnt have a final so thats a BIG help. Keep up with your reading as the textbook will become god in this class, its all i studied from. If you're looking for an elective and need something take this class. Pretty easy and somewhat interesting. KEEP UP WITH YOUR READINGS
It was an easier class, however, to balance for this he gave really weird and obscure questions on the midterm so you could not do that well. No final, but all and all a easy class. lots of readings to do, and there are pop quizzes on them. so keep up on the reading, memorize everything you read, and you will do ok
If you hate quizzes do not take this class!! The only thing I liked about this class is there was no final. He said this course was offered on web ct and it was.... only up to chapter 6. He doesnt respond to emails and his tests arent the easiest. Talk to a few people before you take a class from him!
Prof. Sperlich could use some work with his punctuality/class attendance. Class average was too high after 1st Midterm, so on the second midterm we seen questions very obscure. We wrote our second midterm near the end of November and never got it back! "Next Thursday I will return them"...It never happened. Not there during office hours either!
Hes fantastic. I enjoyed his teaching tactics, but READ READ READ. keep up with your readings, the quizes arent bad either and there random. keep that in mind!
Showed up on time and didn't miss class this semester, only needed one reminder to get our midterms back. :) Still doesn't read email. I got an 80 without the textbook. Highlight of semester was his rant on researching papers. Not as memorable as Gedis' "we don't want crap in our papers now, do we?" speech, but Tobias' came with a German accent.
Great prof, as long as you pay attention and keep up on your readings you will have no problem passing this class. Tobi made class so interesting that I decided to change my Major to Anth. I just hope the other instructors I have in thus subject are as good as Tobi.
I think he's hot. Phewf. hahaha Definately a great teacher to have. This sem we didn't have a final, he's really funny, his lectures are hilarious. I really enjoy him as a prof!!!
Awe some prof! No final which was sweet. Two pop quizzes, so make sure when he gives hints that there is one coming, you read the textbook chapter reading that is assigned on the syllabus for that week!
Two words, No Final. Lectures are generally boring, but he sometimes finds ways to make them funny/interesting. Attendance is only mandatory if you want to be able to do the pop quizes. I never took notes in the class, I just read the text book and I did well on the midterms. He has a lot of experience and is very pationate about what he teaches.
Class = boring but easy. Proff = useless with returning exams and marking them. He repeatedly marked them wrong (sometimes up to 15% wrong). BUT he explained the simple and boring content of the class well. Seemed like a generally nice and humorous guy. This class left me being conflicted...it was good and bad.
I got a failing grade in this class by error, he "lost" my first exam mark. I found the exam and am in process of getting my mark fixed. Class was fine, no final = good. But make sure you check over your exams, and make sure he actually has all your marks.
An overall good prof. Nice guy, good sense of humor, appropriate amount of difficulty on tests. My only complaint was that I didn't feel as though I learned as much as I could have, as he had a habit of routinely cancelling class/ending early/not showing up at all.
He was an awesome prof! we had no final which was sweet, and his class was fun! .. and hes not bad to look at either! would definetly reccomond taking his class!
Has midterms right after workshops and doesn't explain whats on them or gives you a head up.
Loved this class! He is a great prof! Highly recommended.
Great prof! No final, and gives review sheets that basically tell you what are going to be on the tests, AND the tests are open book. Only criticism is he is a little disorganized, he sometimes won't put up the assignments until the day before they are due, but then he always extended the due date. All in all, a really good class!
Awesome prof. Very interesting. Assignments and exams were easy. He also gave an extra credit assignment at the end of the semester.
Very good professor. Clear and precise. Tests are very straight foward and easy to understand.
He's a good prof, definitely would take a class from him! Very clear and easy to understand, no tricks on the tests and provides great overviews of what the tests will have in them. Really enjoyed this class overall!
Scattered prof. Showed up late or left early on a regular basis. I am still not sure what the class was about. Does not seem to care.
Great prof! When he actually lectures, he is very clear and explains things so well. Pop quizzes which sucked, but forced you to read ahead of time and stay on track. Do the readings and the tests are very straightforward! Very nice guy.
This prof made this class way harder then it should have been.He rarely posted assignments on time(sometimes didn't post them at all-then gives make-up assignments with 2 days notice before the last day of class -VERY disorganized) Don't be fooled by old comments-The tests are not open book anymore(majority of class failed them)& there is a final!
Tests are no longer open book, and when the majority of the class almost failed the first exam he couldn't figure out why-- it was because he used the same tests for us as he did when students had a book to look through! If you memorize the textbook you'll be fine but it is a lot of reading.
Interesting class, but the prof showed up late quit a bit and was disorganized. The required text for the class arrived 2 weeks into the class, so the class average for the first exam was low. The workshops, which were mandatory were a complete waste of time. lots of reading and the exams are no longer open book
Not the best prof ever. Textbook was late so studying was hard since no longer open book. Really annoying that he has pop quizzes. Workshops utterly huge waste of time especially since it was participation so everyone just said dumb comments to get marks. Wouldn't recommend.
Pop quizzes SUCKED, the "group project" was also confusing however... his lectures were interesting and I enjoyed them! He knows the material and presents it in a way that is easy to understand. Don't skip his class though, it's easy to fall behind because he covers a lot of information in every class!
Easily the best professor I have taken a class from in University. Shows a passion for the subject, and teaches the material in a sense that is easy to understand and relate too. Highly recommend
I have mixed feelings. He has a good sense of humour and is approachable. However, I was taken back by the mark I received on his exams. I think his TA's must do most of the marking. Sperlich appeared a little bit disorganized and lazy. Marks take a long time to get back. Buy the text, you'll need it. He's not bad, but I don't think I'd reccomend.
I loved this class, Toby has a great sense of humour and was very clear and normally concise. However, there is a LOT of reading required because of the pop quizzes (without them reading would be unnecessary). Veryyy interesting and there are lots of relate-able examples.
Toby was a super nice prof. He's a great lecturer. Very funny. He has 2 pop quizes. And workshops every week that you must take/attend or you receive a failing grade. But they're easy/fun. If you like getting assignments back on time don't take his class. He hands everything back like 2 weeks later than he says which is annoying.
The best prof on campus. He is really good.
He was a great lecturer. My class had to do online assignments every week, they were marked very hard and the grades took ages to get back. I would recommend the class if there were no online assignments. He was a great teacher though,
Okay prof, but online assignments were terrible. He didn't tell us how they would be marked and then expected us to do 5 of them in the last 3 weeks of school. If you like anthro then take hime, DO NOT take as an easy open elective!!
This class is quite boring. It also requires a lot of work because there are large readings to do every week, and assignments that go with them. He takes forever to mark anything and will not reply if he is emailed. Other than that the tests are fair, but there is one large assignment that requires lots of work.
An alright prof. There was no text to buy which was nice. Too many films and readings though. I enjoyed the actual lecture portion. Took forever to get marks back for anything. Classes often finished a lot earlier than the time allotted.
Toby is a great prof who is interested and interesting. He is a fair marker and is keen to help ensure students succeed. He is easy to talk to and get in touch with. Only thing that can be frustrating is that marks from his class take FOREVER to be posted. If you get a chance to take a class with Toby - do it!
I took this class through distance, I had him earlier and thought it would be an easy credit. Be warned there are 1-2 readings that are 15-30 pages a week you have to submit a 1-2 comments on and multiple research papers and the guest speakers are deathly boring. I wouldn't take this class he was helpful however and knew his stuff.
Terrible prof. Though he does know his stuff there is a guest speaker who takes up half of every class so he only lectures briefly. Class is very assignment heavy but he takes over a month to mark anything and does not respond to emails. Tests are online. Two 20+ page readings per week and responses are required. Very unorganized prof.
I took this class as a televised class, all the assignments were online and not too difficult if you read your textbook. His lectures were also always interesting because it seemed like he cared about what he was talking about!
Good class, interesting material!
Class Average: 59% GPA. Avoid his classes!
Interesting class, didn't get lucky with his teaching ability.
Love anthropology!! Not this prof.
I had Toby for a portion of ANTH 100 and I thought he was great. Really nice guy that is super passionate about Anthropology, and he explains things crystal clear. He started off lectures with a Kahoot about the reading that was assigned, which was nice because it would refresh your mind and help get things going.
Tobias is an excellent prof and always has interesting lectures. Gives students a lot of choice with material. There were three midterms and no final exam which took a lot of stress off. Only one big assignment that doesn't take a lot of time. He gets to know his students and wants to see them do well. Would for sure take another class from him.
Just watch all the films, read all the readings, and you'll be good. At least you don't need to buy textbooks.
This class was a disaster. Tobi was extremely unorganized and moved around test dates, constantly shifted mandatory video streamings (without notice). There was no textbook but a two long (often 50 page) readings twice a week, of which you had to create multiple choice quizzes for. No final, but a take home major 'no write essay' that was easy.
It was a combined class with another prof but he still only taught us 2 or 3 lectures throughout the semester. The other lectures were profs from other classes that had absolutely NOTHING to do with our class. He never answered a single email throughout the entire semester and things were graded quite slowly even through they were short assignments
If you need help, or have a question for Professor Sperlich don't expect a response. I sent multiple emails regarding requirements for the course and did not hear back. I am currently hoping that I will be able to take the final, since that was meant to be opened days ago, but still isn't. He has not communicated whatsoever about anything we need.
Professor Sperlich is a great lecturer-he uses slide you can tell that he enjoys what he is talking about. He said that he is accessible outside of class, however he rarely replies to emails and I feel like you would need to go to his office hours (only once a week) to get an answer. Having a class discord with other students really helped.
great prof. grade based on class notes and reading assignments, and 3 exams throughout the course. no midterm or final and all tests were only based on information learned since the last exam.
His lectures are very interesting and always there to help students.
He is clear with his expectations and really supportive of the students. Would definitely take another course.
Amazing professor and great elective. Was super engaging and the course was made in a way which meant you only had to do 6/10 notes to get full marks. Exams are fair but do not expect to get 90's as they can be difficult. The class is a super easy 70-80 though and I would highly recommend.
He was really nice, he forgot to come to class once bc he was Europe and he marks realllllyyy slow but its easy to do good in his class and he's kinda funny.
I took ANTH 100 as an elective, and I would definitely recommend. There were no quizzes, exams, tests! Just do the weekly assignments, and your good to go. Only complaint I have is how the prof is bad at replying to emails. Still a good class to take especially if all you want is an easy class and easy marks. Definitely not hard to get a 90!
Good Prof. Dr. Sperlich Is very nice and respectful to students, and is quite accommodating. He makes getting a good grade achievable, and is excellent at teaching his topics. Very engaging, and an expert lecturer.
Someone who shouldn't be a prof or a dean. Very inconsiderate and rude. I spoke to him about many issues about racism I was experiencing and was told “I know that professor she's not like that” imagine telling someone who experienced racism that it didn't happen. He's very unsupportive as well, just there for the pay. Don't waste your money
Lacking professional abilities. If I could give a -5 stars I WOULD. He's very rude, doesn't care about students. Dismissed my claims against another teacher because “she's not like that”, abusing his power. He just wants to sit behind the desk and collect his $$$
Incompetent to say the least. Works against the students. Refuses to help when asked and he just comes off very rude and says whatever he wants. If you're thinking about taking a class with him, run the other way. Also makes himself (the dean) look like a joke.
